Speaker 1 (00:32):
Welcome to the Cromaniacs. Everybody your weekly look inside San
Diego f C and m l as from San Diego.
My name is Craig Elston, joined as always my Tony Sanchez.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
What's happening in Tony?

Speaker 3 (00:47):
Noth much?

Speaker 4 (00:48):
Just enjoyed some midweek All Star action and disappointed.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Much like they were too. They wanted to play with Messy.
I don't know, well.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
Man, no one more disappointed than Don Garber.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
You're gonna make me do what?

Speaker 5 (01:05):
Here's Alex Payin, Yeah, what's up? Alex?

Speaker 6 (01:07):
I also missed Massy being out there more importantly for
like guys like Yepe and Dryer, you know, those guys
that haven't been around Messy.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
I thought that would have.

Speaker 7 (01:19):
Been a great opportunity for that.

Speaker 6 (01:20):
But oh well, always next year for Messy to miss
another All Star game.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Right, kind of have a feeling.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
Messy can miss as many All Star games as he'd
like to, And MLS is gonna say, thank.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
You, sir, may we have another.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
We'll believe it next time put the football down again,
I'll go for a solid kick.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
I'm sure you won't pull it away from me. All right, But.

Speaker 5 (01:44):
That's them and this is us.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
The Chromaniacs, Episode nine of The Chromaniacs of the main show.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
This will be a shorter Chromaniacs.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
The reason is we're recording on Thursday, July twenty fourth,
and there's a match on Friday, July twenty fifth, a
big one against Nashville Soccer Club. They didn't want to
be an FC, they wanted to be an SC. The
s has stood for success as much as soccer. This season,
we'll get into a preview.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
We'll start with some very quick housekeeping, and.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
Then we will roll into what we know so far
from the transfer window.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
So first quick housekeeping.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Follow us on Instagram at the Chromaniacs always great work
being done by terrible SDFC meumes to pull out a
few things from the show. Look at that, We're up
to three hundred followers for a very very young show.
I like that.

Speaker 5 (02:41):
And there was the picture of us from the match.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
The shorts.

Speaker 4 (02:48):
There may be a day where I join you guys soon,
and it's not for any action of my own.

Speaker 3 (02:53):
I may have.

Speaker 4 (02:54):
Been stopped by Leak's cup and not been approved by
leaks cuffs. So oh no, it's all good. Abe Abe
got the approval, so sending up fall and I we'll
have we'll have coverage, we get it done so that
this might happen more sooner than later.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
That might be a blessing just to not have to
be in the catacombs for leaks coming. Just enjoy it
as a casual like certainly like I will be.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
Uh, that's for sure.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
So yeah, uh the the Cromaniacs on Instagram, please rate
and review the show. We've seen some nice five star
reviews already out there on Apple Podcasts, but wherever you are, Spotify,
et cetera.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
It does help the show at least a little bit.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
Certainly if you're watching us on YouTube, that thumbs up,
liking and subscribing is huge. So if you can please
do that, thank you, thank you, and thank you. Next
announcement will have a postgame show tomorrow night after SDFC
and Nashville SC at Snapdragon Stadium. It's crazy how few

(04:10):
home matches remain in the regular season, Tony. For San
Diego FC, it was so home heavy there at the
start of summer. We're gonna go a solid month barely
seeing this club.

Speaker 4 (04:22):
Ten games left in the season for SANDYFC overall, but yeah,
so few home games.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
It's a you know, something that people take for granted
at times.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
Just being able to see San Diego FC up close
and just a soccer like this is gonna be the
first everything, Right, there's gonna be a first off season
for Sandy UFC coming relatively sooner rather than later, you hope,
much later if you're following and hoping for a potential
run in the playoffs.

Speaker 6 (04:50):
Yeah, and luckily we have a couple home matches here
due to the.

Speaker 7 (04:57):
League's Cup, and.

Speaker 6 (04:59):
We'll get to see this team a little bit more
and hopefully they can make a deep run in that
too and have a chance to compete for two different cups,
so that that's gonna be a lot of fun. I'm
excited for next week seeing some Oligamakis clubs come in
and you know, we get to see what they're all about.
And second time for for saying UFC to play Aliga

(05:26):
Echis after their friendly with Globe of America.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
Gonna be a lot more familiar as the summer winds
on and turns into fall, because as you guys were
just talking about, i mean, here comes Pachuca, here comes
ste Grace, here comes Mazatlan, and then in September Sholos
comes to town on September sixteenth. Hilariously, the night before that,

(05:54):
the game before that, September thirteenth will be Hispanic Heritage
Night against Minnesota, but when it'll be Mexican Independent celebration
presented by Modello that night. So not not that they
didn't turn it completely on their head this but uh, nonetheless, Uh,

(06:16):
I'm enjoying that Hispanic Heritage tonight is when Minnesota comes
to town.

Speaker 5 (06:19):
I just think that's funny.

Speaker 4 (06:23):
We will all remember where we were when uh, you know,
Minnesota walked in to also observe it hopefully, and uh,
we welcome that. I was welcome different. Hispanic heritage is
celebrated from around town. Meeting some meeting some Atlanta, Georgia
Mexicans the other day was a fantastic experience, let me

(06:43):
tell you. So get out there and know somebody maybe
in the tailgate where you can find Alex and Craig, which,
by the way, Alex, no idea you were.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
That's all. That was a pleasant surprise.

Speaker 7 (06:57):
I feel like I get that a lot.

Speaker 4 (07:00):
If ever COEs to like podcasting Anchorman fights. If ever,
that's like, we're good, You're in good hands, Craig, You're
in good hands.

Speaker 6 (07:08):
Give Alex the spear between well between me and then
and then you got Brandon on the other side too.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
Oh he's yeah, Well, Brandon's gonna be one of the
first to go just because of you know, easy target,
large target range. I know how the kids play the games.
He's kind of easy. He's going to wide target range.
But we digress. So yes, postgame show live tomorrow night
on YouTube. Take a look for it. What the match

(07:37):
is seven thirty? So what what time did we go
last last time around.

Speaker 4 (07:43):
I'll let you guys deside by the time people decide
to come out, it might might as well be the
next day for me.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
Yeah, yeah, I know, I know.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
I think it was about an hour after last time.
So look for it that way. And you know, I
make my own individual plans to make sure I'm ready
to go for the show an hour after even going
to enjoy the action at beautiful snap Dragon Stadium. Okay,

(08:11):
transfer window is here, but they can't buy any beer.
That would be a good version if you wanted to
know what's going on with San Diego FC bringing in
the kids to help. Are the kids all right, Alex Panna,
Who do we got and why.

Speaker 7 (08:32):
Oh man.

Speaker 6 (08:33):
So it's been reported out there that I think the
first one that came out was that we're acquiring Pedro
Soma and he is currently playing for Barcelona B team,
not the main Barcelona team, but the Barcelona Bee and

(08:54):
he he's a midfielder.

Speaker 7 (08:56):
You know, he's nineteen years old.

Speaker 6 (08:58):
And I do feel like this type of acquisition is
for that under twenty two slot that we've been talking about.
So this is going to be a straight up transfer
probably is going to include a transfer fee for this guy.
And and then you know, we get to have him here,
and you know that's good that you know, that's I

(09:20):
I look at this as really good depth behind Taveriskoff
and Animal Goodoy. I think that's kind of what we need,
especially with Aleandro Alvarado out, he's gonna be out for
the year, and you know, you bring a guy like
someone with this type of you know, this caliber of player.
You know, he's been in Spain working in the Barcelona system.

(09:45):
I mean, he's gonna be very explosive. Like some of
the film I saw of him yesterday was pretty impressive.
Like he he knows how to move pretty well with
the ball, he knows how to like drop a pass
like on a dime. It looked really impressive, like cross passes.
Just it look it looked really impressive. And I'm excited if, if, if,

(10:10):
whenever this becomes official, whenever it's Sandy UFC you know
makes that post on Instagram and I know for sure
we got them. You know, I think that's a that's
a great type of player to have in your under
twenty two spot.

Speaker 4 (10:28):
Tony your thoughts, Yeah, I mean, I mean, look, it
fits right in line with everything going on at TANDYFC,
right like it's a it's another young player. It's another
player that uh just again falls into that right to
dream path of the youth.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
You look at how they you know, just really.

Speaker 4 (10:47):
Take pride in the fact that FC norseland is is
the youngest average in Europe for a team and they
make it to second place and have this competitive team.

Speaker 3 (10:56):
This is that version in MLS.

Speaker 4 (10:58):
So you're going to have the team that will probably
need a nanny at some point if you know, they
go out in the night wall Tukuloso is out partying
hopefully for a playoff victory. But this is a good
move in terms of what's been working. It's been very
very modular, uh for a squad that it's it's fighting

(11:21):
players that fit the right mold. Youth knows Mikey Vadas
is the system that that he's comfortable with the comfortability
of Mike Evadas coaching this player. Right. We've seen what
he's done with young players like Ian Pilcher, who's there
to be a student of the game, who's just sat
and learned and observed, Patty McNair, Chris McVay, how did

(11:43):
they how do they do things? And now you start
just seeing that development from him. It's a great move.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (11:48):
And again it's it's gone from a from a good
move by Tyler Heaps. And that's what I'm more excited about, too,
is just who's Tyler Heap's gonna just hey, here's here's
a guy. Here's a guy I found there you go.
And it seems like Pedro Soma is one of those
guys or kids coming up.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
Okay, so that's one.

Speaker 1 (12:07):
And David Vasquez from Philadelphia Union but also a US
Under twenty youth national team player, he appears to be another.

Speaker 2 (12:20):
And this seems to fit.

Speaker 1 (12:23):
Everything you just said about Soma you should be able
to say about Vasquez. This is someone Varnis is comfortable with,
somebody he's coached, somebody he knows who knows him, uh,
and is not getting an opportunity with Philadelphia Union has
one match played this year. So my question, Tony, why

(12:45):
should I be excited about this or should I be
excited about.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
This at all?

Speaker 1 (12:51):
Are we just getting a back of the bench depth
piece here or is this somebody that can add to
the attack.

Speaker 4 (12:58):
Yeah, it's somebody who's gonna be very exciting to watch
and develop into their own style. You see it on
a similar team with a Kimi as Kano in San
Diego wave right. This is a player that can find
their way in any position, and this player has a
nose for goal and definitely one of those flair type
of players that can bring some excitement and really resolve

(13:18):
players and and can really resolve different situations a la
Milamilowski who just resolved things something's not working. He found
a way you need to play a different pace, a
different style.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
You can go ahead and do that.

Speaker 4 (13:32):
But overall, I think people should be more excited because
of how upset people in Philadelphia are that they're actually
letting them go.

Speaker 1 (13:39):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (13:39):
And so that's that's always a good sign, right when
the team that's parting ways with the player.

Speaker 3 (13:47):
Is kind of like, maybe we should rethink this, guys.

Speaker 4 (13:50):
And not let another one of our guys go. Right,
this is a Saise's position, but unfortunately he got injured.
Still nursing an injury. The sixteen year old from Philadelphia
Union itself, and Philadelphia Union also has what is considered
to be in MLS the number one academy already in
play along with others, but you know, right now the

(14:10):
Union is up there, so good talent coming out from
the Philadelphia Union.

Speaker 7 (14:15):
Yeah, and that's a testament.

Speaker 6 (14:17):
You see it with Cavin Sullivan right, like he's going
to be at Manchester City in a few years and
he's fifteen years old. That yeah, that, Yeah, they have
a really good development system in at Philadelphia, and hopefully
we get that with Vasquez. And from what's being reported

(14:40):
with Vasquaz, it's alone with an option to buy, you know,
at the end of the season, and I think that's
really important. So right now he would most likely be
a supplemental player on the supplemental roster and maybe later
on you move him into senior roster spot when you buy,

(15:04):
you know, pick up that option to buy.

Speaker 7 (15:07):
But for for us, it's a tryout.

Speaker 6 (15:09):
It's it's pretty much bringing him in, seeing what he's
all about, and if we like him, we'll, you know,
we'll we'll try to activate that clause in this contract
and if it doesn't work out, then he goes back
to the Philly and you know, that's that.

Speaker 7 (15:23):
So I think there's no risk in this.

Speaker 6 (15:26):
It's huge risks for Philadelphia for letting us have this
player and having that option to buy. But yeah, and
if he turns out to be everything that it seems
like he is, he's a really good top goals scorer
for in in their system, then hey, this this might
be a really good deal for SANDYFC.

Speaker 1 (15:47):
Tony Sanchezz question.

Speaker 5 (15:50):
Is this it?

Speaker 2 (15:52):
Is this it for SDFC or is there more coming?

Speaker 4 (15:56):
There's definitely more coming for San Diego f C. There
there are a couple of negotiations underway. I know there's
one player that's pretty much finalized contracts that it's going
to be announced later. Let's also remember the window just opened,
so anything can still happen. Right across the globe. There
are there are transactions that are being made. This is

(16:16):
why it's interesting for MLS to align itself with the
rest of the world because transfer windows tend to be
on Wonky's kind of schedules with everyone else. But this
is one of those kind of spaces where well, everybody's
kind of at a club when Europe is already done.
The season is going to start in Europe, so you know,

(16:36):
there's still chances for players to come over from overseas,
much like meann Iailowski went back and he's going to
start a season with FC norseland but players should be
coming in additionally, but also players from injuries should be
returning as well very soon.

Speaker 6 (16:57):
Yeah, And when it comes to like to transfer windows,
especially internationally, we're seeing guys go to their club asking
questions like hey, am I fitting with your plans? Am
I going to get the minutes that you know I
think I deserve and and trying to feel it out
in preseason and if it gets determined like no, you

(17:19):
know what, you're not part of our plans, then that's
when they're being asked to like Okay, I want to
go on a loan or I want to be sold,
or I want to go somewhere else, because you know
they're not getting a good vibe in preseason and and
it's time to go somewhere else.

Speaker 7 (17:32):
So that's happening right now for SANDIFC.

Speaker 6 (17:39):
Getting it does feel like you're getting one guy for
you're under twenty two slot, but there's still four other
spots available on the senior roster, and I'm very interested
to see how exactly that's going to be filled out.
It does seem like there's one international on the roster

(18:02):
due to Bruce that going out on loan, So that
opened up a spot. And so I mean, you could
take your pick of how you want to fill this out.
You could probably bring one international guy, bring a couple
guys that are you know, more domestic guys, uh, you
know to this roster.

Speaker 7 (18:21):
Maybe trades.

Speaker 6 (18:22):
I feel like a trade might happen. I don't know
why I get that feeling between MLS clubs, but yeah,
you gotta you gotta fill this out somehow because the
supplemental roster is pretty much filled out and now now
you gotta fill fill the holes in your senior roster.

Speaker 1 (18:43):
Does this sound crazy? You're in first place in the West.
These moves feel like an expansion teams middle of the table,
incremental improvements, setting up the state for the mid term
and the long term. They don't feel like the moves

(19:05):
of a team trying to win the Cup.

Speaker 3 (19:10):
Yet. Hm.

Speaker 7 (19:13):
I mean that yeah, that that that's true.

Speaker 6 (19:16):
I mean I think yeah, for for a sporting director, Yeah,
you're you are looking up at both sides of it, right,
You're trying to look at the short term and the
long term. Bringing in Soma, that's that's completely doing that.
You're you're looking for someone that can fill a need
right now in depth, but can be a starter down

(19:36):
the line and you know, fill in that that gap
when you know, Go doy leaves or you know someone
else leaves. Yeah, you know, you're playing both sides of
it there.

Speaker 2 (19:50):
There.

Speaker 6 (19:50):
It's it's hard to pick up somebody, you know, in
the summer transfer window that's going to really make an impact.
It really has to fit everything right. It has to
fit the system, it to fit the style, it has
to fit everything that they're doing. And and and I
think that's why it brought up, like maybe an international
loan can fit that where it's like, Okay, he's gonna

(20:12):
be here for a short time, maybe towards the end
of the year and just fill that need.

Speaker 7 (20:17):
But that's also hard.

Speaker 6 (20:19):
I mean, you gotta you gotta find the right right
person to to uh fill that spot.

Speaker 4 (20:27):
Is there a player out there that you would want
to see rehabbed back into a national team?

Speaker 7 (20:33):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (20:34):
And and you know, I mean for the US men's
national team, for I don't know in Mexican national Like,
is there just a player out Because this is like
a fountain of youth that's happening too, because because you
go back to basics with the way that Right to
Dream is playing, it's just a faster version of a
basic soccer team.

Speaker 7 (20:52):
Right.

Speaker 4 (20:53):
Look at what the San Diego soccers do, right, Craig.
They're just the most basic soccer team that have all
the talent, they have the flair, they can you know,
just do incredible things. But if you really look at
how they play, they're just passing, go, touch and shoot,
pass and go try like little triangles, little patterns. We're
just gonna beat you, little little little jabs jabs, jabs, jabs,

(21:13):
and they break you down. That's Right to Dreams, that
Sandy WEFC's waves playing. And once you have that like it,
it's a matter of having that potential to just come
with some experience and reset yourself.

Speaker 3 (21:27):
Look at did it Dreyer? Did it? Chooky?

Speaker 2 (21:31):
Did it?

Speaker 3 (21:32):
Injury? You know?

Speaker 4 (21:34):
The story continues right like is there somebody out there
that you would want to, you know, be brought into
the walls of Singing Hills?

Speaker 1 (21:43):
I mean me personally, if you're asking me, you know,
did you guys watch Ted Lasso? I mean I feel
like we're one Zava away, Like all we need is
Zava And I feel like this team is set to go.

Speaker 5 (21:58):
Canslatt On walk in. Obviously that's Baba's base.

Speaker 2 (22:01):
John. You know, kids a lot.

Speaker 5 (22:04):
Could you imagine if it's a lot just walked through
that door. I was like, I'm here to fuck up
MLS again.

Speaker 2 (22:11):
This league son kill it.

Speaker 4 (22:13):
I believe it because he's a poster boy for the new
e A f C formerly known as FIFA game video game.
He's a poster boy, so hey on a press tour.

Speaker 3 (22:21):
Why not stop buying?

Speaker 7 (22:25):
Yeah, get get all the goals that he can in MLS.

Speaker 5 (22:32):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (22:33):
I just still feel like we have a number nine
hole and I don't think either of these kids. And
maybe Vasquez can fill it. Who knows, No one thought
a Loski could. But you know, if David Vasquez can't
fill that hole, then the club still has a problem,
which leads me to the last thing I kind of
had before we talk Nashville is ing of Artsen. Is

(22:55):
he the hidden forgotten man of San Diego FC? Like
he was our original number nine? And then it's like, well,
you know, he's a little dinged. Oh well, all of
a sudden, he's been nothing forever. And then like I
think the last time he started, he was in a
midfield position. Is there any chance that there's juice left

(23:22):
in that Nordic orange up there to be squeezed? Is
there anything in Vartsen that could make an impact in
this club by the end of the year.

Speaker 6 (23:34):
You know, we're probably crossing our fingers that we hope
it happens. But just looking at his history, he is man,
He's I think he's very injury prone. He has an
eclipsed like the two thousand minute mark since like last decade,

(23:57):
It's been a long time since he's actually been like
a healthy player.

Speaker 7 (24:01):
He had that.

Speaker 6 (24:02):
One season where he hit twenty three goals in the season,
and that's pretty much it.

Speaker 7 (24:07):
It.

Speaker 6 (24:08):
It just seems like we took a player that wanted
to do that and be that rehab type player, as
Tony Tony was saying, and yeah, he just hasn't really
done it yet.

Speaker 7 (24:20):
He really really has to be healthy.

Speaker 6 (24:23):
And even the three hundred minutes we've seen, you know,
I didn't come out that impressed. He scored one goal,
and it's it wasn't anything that I thought like, oh man,
this guy's gonna has the potential of doing things later on.
I kind of look at him as more of a
depth piece now, and I do I do feel like

(24:46):
there should be someone that comes in and plays in
front of him and and just hope, like, hey, you
know that if he does get playing time, it probably
is down down, you.

Speaker 7 (24:58):
Know, in the season, and and you just.

Speaker 4 (25:01):
Got to help for the best parallel universes Marcus and
Varson doesn't get injured, right then you have him be
in the system. Sandy UFC still does very well, you know,
before a loan and and a introduction of Milaniloski. Tyler
Heath pointed out SANDYFC was second in scoring in the league.

(25:24):
So scoring was fine. Everything was gonna happen like it
was planned to. And then later on the year, here
comes a transfer window after the All Star game. Hmmm
in Varson's kind of had a lot of minutes. Hey,
how wut we call that kid Milaniloski to now come
in and film.

Speaker 3 (25:45):
And now be that bridge for the end of the
season and so.

Speaker 4 (25:52):
Exactly, And so then you get the prolific nature that
he you know, Milanski obviously had it goes back and
he's now kind of in this hyperbaric time chamber for
a little longer in FC norseland and then at the
right time, cool call him in hometown kid. We knew
this kid was gonna be able to do this. Take
us to the playoffs. Loski doesn't happen parallel universe, that

(26:14):
universe explodes.

Speaker 3 (26:15):
We have it here.

Speaker 4 (26:17):
They've been still doing well, That's the thing. San Diego
SI's still been doing well even without Milaniloski post They've
been doing it.

Speaker 2 (26:26):
But have they But have they been doing well?

Speaker 7 (26:29):
I mean they got it draw.

Speaker 1 (26:30):
They draw when when a corner got in and then
the defender knocked it in. They lost to a near
last place team at home. They don't dynamo.

Speaker 3 (26:40):
They don't have anybody to feed it up. The ball
just gets stuck like molasses in midfield. Yep. It is
highed like.

Speaker 4 (26:45):
He's y yeah, So I don't know. Again, just I
think everybody just was spoiled little bit and Mikeyboda said
it the best. Everybody at that moment for Houston just
kind of needed to be humble to live. And I
think that's what just kind of reset this team once again,
just recent expectations. The conversation of this team should be

(27:06):
fighting for playoffs, let alone first place guys, and it's
they're they're.

Speaker 3 (27:11):
Very aware of that, but I'm I don't know. I
think what tyl are people doing? Three? I don't know.
I trust the man at this point, I have nothing
to say.

Speaker 4 (27:21):
Wave the rally towel for okay back and you know,
if that's the energy that needed that way, then hopefully
because there is a giant hole up in nine.

Speaker 1 (27:32):
See, my cynical mind is at work, and I feel
like I feel like a ceiling has been established for
this club with the decisions that are being made, with
a third DP not being called upon, going to get
nineteen year old kids that may or may not even

(27:52):
play on the senior roster. Someone else is going to
come in, I'm sure, but I feel like this is
now playing for regular season points and a graceful bow
out in the playoffs, like, oh, we gave it a
real fight against so and so or who and Who.
I don't think they're going full bore to try and

(28:14):
win MLS Cup, and I don't know that if they did,
it wouldn't be the wrong decision. I don't know that
you know Tyler Heaps as you say, you know, trust him.
He knows better than we do, that's for sure. But
actions speak louder than words. The actions of the club,
to me, are the actions of a club that kind

(28:34):
of knows it's been playing over its skis for a
while and there's a landing still to come, which might
be my transition to Nashville Soccer Club. I am just
looking at it. I feel like this is the best
opponent that SDFC has played yet this year and could

(28:58):
be their biggest challenge.

Speaker 2 (29:00):
And with all of the.

Speaker 1 (29:01):
Injuries, hopefully good boys back, you know, hopefully there's the
hopefully the boys from All Star have legs underneath them.

Speaker 2 (29:12):
But right now, this is one of.

Speaker 1 (29:14):
The first times I've looked at the match and just
been like, ooh, we might be in trouble on Friday night.

Speaker 6 (29:21):
Yeah, and It's not just Friday night, right, it's gonna
be the next what is it, five matches in sixteen
games or sixteen days.

Speaker 7 (29:34):
That's insane. That's like you're have in a game every
three days.

Speaker 6 (29:39):
And we don't have to death like we're gonna have
to play essentially everybody every game. You know, whether that
trukey gets like thirty minutes here, twenty minutes here, it's
just it's gonna be a lot for these guys to
just and the and here's the here's the difference. Nashville.

(29:59):
We could talk about League s Cup a little bit.
They didn't make the playoffs last year, so they didn't
qualify for League Stup. And they're not playing on Tuesday.
We were playing on Tuesday, Sandy FC is.

Speaker 7 (30:11):
And they don't have another match.

Speaker 6 (30:13):
Their next match is a friendly against Ashton Villa, so
they have they pretty much can go all out. And
this is the thing that they do. They go all
out on in these games. They hardly sub I think
they ranked first when it comes to up to taking

(30:33):
the least substitution and minutes. And yeah, this team is
just full on gas and they can they can do that.
They can absolutely just play their guys, and hey, you
know what, there's a friendly next week. We don't technically
have to play and play them play to a full
strength next week. But yeah, getting getting into Nashville, they're

(30:58):
a very hot team. I mean they have won the
last seven of their eight matches. They've recorded one loss
in the last in league play since April nineteenth.

Speaker 7 (31:14):
That's how hot they are. But I'm gonna give you
a positive right now.

Speaker 6 (31:19):
That April nineteen match was against another West Coast team
in the Seattle Sounders, for a seven thirty match, just
like us, so that little time difference might might work
to our favor. But we're we're yeah, we're gonna need
kind of everybody to be, you know, on point for

(31:42):
this match. Hopefully we do get Anamal Godoy. I saw
him that he was not listed on the injury report
for this week on Friday, or for Friday's match. He's
gonna be playing against his former club. I think that
that'd be a really good thing. Chris mc was listed again.

(32:03):
That means mana dua Ian Bult. Actually it might be
Patty McNair getting back out there, so that's gonna be
really good to see. At least one of those guys
back on the on the back line, but they got
two guys up front that we just saw yesterday in
the All Star Game.

Speaker 5 (32:21):
That's that's what I was thinking at Surage.

Speaker 1 (32:23):
I mean, he's a he's the real deal. And that's
why I'm nervous about this match, to be honest. He's
he's him against a bunch of kids who can't buy
a beer and he's going to have their savvy went
out over the course of ninety Yeah.

Speaker 6 (32:41):
And yeah, he's he's tied for the leading goals. I mean,
he scored a goal yesterday. That's kind of the thing
he does. And and it's not just him, honey Mouktar.
He's also another dangerous and he controls He is the

(33:02):
center fielder here. He really does control that offense. He
does it really well. I mean, because he can beat
you with a pass in for a goal, he can
beat you with a free kick for a goal. He
can beat you in so many ways. And he's very creative.
He's a former MLS Player of the Year Landon Donovan

(33:23):
Award winner back in twenty twenty two. He was their
first design injur player and it shows. I mean, the
guy is very talented and he's really emerged from his
twenty twenty four season where he wasn't doing so well.
I think he only had eight goals last season, and

(33:43):
he's really done really well this season. And yeah, these
two guys are going to be a handful for you know,
whether that's Pilcher and nicknair McNair and do. Yeah, it's
going to be a lot for these guys and hopefully
we do goodoy we do see uh, you know, Trevereskoff

(34:04):
and Luca kind of a little bit more at full strength,
and yeah, we kind of need everybody for this match.

Speaker 4 (34:12):
There's just so many variables in this match that you know,
don't point to a good time for San Diego FC.
You know, there's a point where it's it's Snapdragon a fortresses,
any stadium a fortress, And honestly, snap Dragon in the
last couple of weeks hasn't necessarily been a factor at all.
So even just that looking at those rosters, right, just

(34:37):
the depth difference in in the in this squad where wow,
just look at the amount of players that they have.
Imagine if San Diego had an amount of players, it
can mean everything, it could mean absolutely nothing, but Nashville
is one of those teams that is doing soccer the
new way, MLS the new way, and they have this

(34:57):
gear that they can kind of get into where they
can be an elite team or they could just fall
and crumble, and you know, it's a it's a it's
a business transaction victory for San Diego f C and
move on to the next But between the young back
line between all these questions just kind of get compiled
week to week for San Diego FC, and every time

(35:18):
they answer them, even if they don't, they bounce back well.
But I think there they've come to a point where
every question is being asked on a Friday night one
match and go, this is a a it's not a
pop quiz. This is the exam at the end of
the semester. But guess what, there's still the final exam.
But this is the big exam. Is commutative If I
can't say that word was commutative, commutative, commulative, cumulative.

Speaker 6 (35:45):
Yeah, yeah, oh my goodness, you got it.

Speaker 3 (35:49):
The act the rare Mexican accent flood by myself.

Speaker 4 (35:55):
Uh but yeah, so there's a lot of there's a
lot of different aspects that don't point to a good
time for San Diego c here. But if they can
do it, it's another one of those things where like
they proved everybody wrong yet again, yet again.

Speaker 1 (36:11):
Yeah, I think the best chance for SDFC winning on
Friday Night is for it to be a good time
Friday night, for Nashville to have come in, for the
time zone to affect them, for something.

Speaker 2 (36:23):
To break sdfc's way early. Something.

Speaker 1 (36:27):
I really think the first thirty minutes might be determinative, Like,
if you don't get the lead in the first thirty
it could be an issue because I think Nashville's quality
is going to show over the course of ninety and
even if they fall behind, I think they've got so
much veteran talent to attack up top that it's going

(36:51):
to just put this extremely young back line.

Speaker 3 (36:54):
To the test.

Speaker 1 (36:55):
Maybe Cisniega or you know, stands on his head, Maybe
do Santosis. I'm not sure, but you know, maybe there's
an exceptional goalkeeping performance. There's always a way to get
a result in soccer. You know, It's similar to baseball
and its stupidity in terms of the randomness that gets
injected match to match that we try to interpret as

(37:18):
meaning nonetheless, this really is this is like there's I
think there's only been one other time that I went
to the snap going like, boy, I don't know. And
the last time I did, we won against LAFC. That
was the time I was like, Oh, I don't know,

(37:38):
I don't know. I don't know. They look like they're
really loaded up for us in Nashville looks loaded up
for us. I think they're just I literally I was
like doing some research earlier today and I was scrolling
back looking for a loss.

Speaker 4 (37:53):
Back back back back.

Speaker 3 (37:55):
Okay, messy got you once, but back back back.

Speaker 2 (37:58):
You just this team doesn't lose. They are nails.

Speaker 1 (38:02):
So to me, this is facing a potential champion in Nashville.
This is sdfc's ultimate test so far this year. If
they lose it, it's not something to be ashamed about.
You're probably facing the best team in MLS.

Speaker 3 (38:19):
Question for both of you.

Speaker 4 (38:20):
Then, last time out here at home, Sandy, UFC pulled
out a pretty good tie at home, Mike Evadas said
in postmatch this tie felt like a victory. What happens?
Does it change anything? If after Nashville, Mike e Vadas
yet again says, hey, we got a tie it, but
it feels like a victory again. Does that start to

(38:43):
change like okay, well, okay, cool, another tie, another victory.
But does that pull you any sort of way, any direction,
make you think something. I'm just kind of because the
thing that come out are very the same. Like you
asked Mikey Vadas, hey, why is the sky blue? He'll
tell us, Oh, because we stick to our principal because
like that's they stick to the script. And I can

(39:04):
see a tie and then once again, this is a
great time, felt like another victory. Are just gonna accumulate ties?
You you guys okay with that?

Speaker 1 (39:15):
Uh?

Speaker 6 (39:16):
I think for the circumstances, uh, probably yes. You just
you barely have enough guys to have a full roster
right now, and you're playing on Tuesday night and then
you play again Friday night or yeah, later later on.

Speaker 7 (39:36):
In the week, and.

Speaker 6 (39:39):
It's gonna be it's gonna be hard, right, You're gonna
you're gonna have to make some business decisions, you know,
this week, Whether does it's gonna be up? Really does
this match against Nashville more important than the ones against Pachuca?

Speaker 7 (39:57):
Are they gonna be.

Speaker 6 (39:58):
You know, more important than the ones later on the
week the following week. You know, I think they're gonna
have to really assess this this match and really, yeah,
do what other teams do, right they they when they
have tournament play, they you know, they kind of determine like, Okay,
we have a chance to win a trophy. We're gonna

(40:19):
go all out for this match, and then these other
matches you know, oh, well we're gonna.

Speaker 7 (40:24):
Have we have to save some guys.

Speaker 1 (40:26):
What about you, Craig, Well, I'm just gonna go the
other direction. I think they should go all out to
win this game, to everything they can to win this game.
And I don't give two hoots whether they lose to
Pachuca or not, that doesn't matter to me. Those are
games I expect the whole team to be as young

(40:48):
as possible. And as you guys were saying, one of
the biggest issues for SDFC is they literally can't just
roll Team B out there and say go ahead.

Speaker 3 (40:58):
They don't have enough.

Speaker 4 (40:59):
We don't have enough where Team B. By the way,
you guys are notified where Team B.

Speaker 1 (41:07):
I'm sure there's some old loyal dude still like a
phone call away. They could find somebody.

Speaker 3 (41:17):
There's no one's heard about.

Speaker 1 (41:21):
But yeah, so for me, you've accumulated success in mL LASS.

Speaker 2 (41:29):
Get a result.

Speaker 1 (41:30):
And to answer Tony's question, I don't want to be
the one to break the explicit tap. So absolutely and lootlely,
I would take a tie against Nashville. I would take
it gratefully and I would say thank you, may I
please have another?

Speaker 2 (41:46):
And this is establishing the.

Speaker 1 (41:47):
Theme that I feel like STFC is telling me as
a fan, which is we we.

Speaker 3 (41:53):
Don't have a championship team this year.

Speaker 2 (41:56):
We have a team that's.

Speaker 1 (41:57):
That's good, maybe played a little better than we thought
it should a like, maybe we're a little higher in
the standings than we almost kind of want to be
because of the way that now the fans expect us
to try and win MLS Cup. These aren't MLS Cup moves.
These are first year moves. You know, going to the

(42:18):
under twenty two path, that's a first year move. And
I think what they're trying to tell me is enjoy
the summer. The fall might be a little short, you know,
the MLS playoff experience, you know, enjoy that three leg
first round if they're still doing that crazy stuff, you know,
because that might be it for the club, and honestly,

(42:42):
I'm not going to screen Bloody Murder if that is
the case.

Speaker 3 (42:46):
But that's just kind of the feeling I'm getting right now.

Speaker 1 (42:48):
And I'd love for them to go out and win
for one on Friday night and make me sound like
an idiot with what I'm saying. I would love to
feel that because I haven't felt that way since BC
Place in Vancouver.

Speaker 6 (43:03):
Yeah, and if you want a little bit more optimism,
I do feel like we will have a twelfth person
on the pitch. It's going to be the sideline official
with the flag because Nashville leads in off sides fifty nine.

(43:23):
That that's our that's our twelve person right there.

Speaker 4 (43:27):
Love that to to kind of look at Craig again,
just the longevity and the long term projectness of this
FC norseland if that's.

Speaker 3 (43:36):
The copy paste model.

Speaker 4 (43:38):
They were founded in nineteen ninety one and they didn't
win their first championship and their only championship until twenty eleven,
So you know that's that's still good. I'll give you
another example across the border if you want to do that.
As the other side of the coin. They made it
to the Prettymanta leabs on and guess who wanted immediately. So, uh,

(44:03):
expectations is what this team has now.

Speaker 3 (44:05):
And that's why I think.

Speaker 4 (44:07):
You know, they played a little bit out of their
league and they played well, but I much like I
think another player maybe perhaps you know c J. Losantos
did he peak already? Do you want to see CJ
back tomorrow? Who plays tomorrow?

Speaker 1 (44:20):
Who?

Speaker 3 (44:20):
Who's who's the one that takes the gloves? Uh? And
who's your choice?

Speaker 2 (44:26):
You know who I take?

Speaker 4 (44:28):
Hm hmm, I take Sasniega.

Speaker 2 (44:31):
How about you opin?

Speaker 7 (44:32):
You same for now?

Speaker 3 (44:37):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (44:37):
I mean he hasn't done a bad job. I mean
he's done pretty well. And yeah, you get you could
keep rolling with Bablo, just keep going.

Speaker 2 (44:48):
He signed him. I thought he was going to be
the starter.

Speaker 7 (44:50):
I thought he I mean to I thought he was
going to be number one.

Speaker 6 (44:54):
Yeah, and then it was CJ like, oh okay, that''s
that's how you got so I know you guys are
clucked in.

Speaker 3 (45:01):
Yeah, I agree it Seasiega, that's where you go.

Speaker 2 (45:09):
I think you got it.

Speaker 1 (45:11):
I think it would be weird to not And then
if you if you walked in trailing and have you know,
it's a tough feeling. But I don't know, you know,
there's it's such a young team. I just feel like
we are at that critical mass point of we're getting
younger and younger and younger.

Speaker 2 (45:31):
And that's awesome, but also.

Speaker 1 (45:34):
It's really hard to win that way. It's just hard
long term. It's hard. We're asking Dryer and Chokey to
just carry so much mail right now for this team,
and it's kind of like if they don't juice it
up and put big numbers on the board, as DFC
is in big trouble right now.

Speaker 2 (45:54):
So I don't know what to expect from those guys.

Speaker 1 (45:57):
Having had to fly back and forth for the All
Star Game, the game itself was like a glorified practice.
I'm not worried about the effects on their legs at all.
It's more of the distraction family travel interviews, you know,
just the kind of buzz of the whole thing, disruption
of pattern, disruption of routine, scooting back in and trying

(46:21):
to just pick up the baton. These guys are well
paid professional athletes. I'm counting on them to pick up
the baton on Friday night and for Dryer to score
and for Jookie to score and contribute. And if they
can do that, stfc's got a good chance to get
a result against Nashville if they have to do it
without them, And we're just counting on that, you know,

(46:41):
back in the line of teenagers to stop this really
potent center attack of Nashville. I'm worried about getting a
point out.

Speaker 2 (46:52):
Of this one. So let's go. Let's go Veterans. Yeah
that's you.

Speaker 1 (46:57):
You. You you can't to who here can buy a beer?

Speaker 2 (47:02):
Hold up your hand? Who here can go.

Speaker 1 (47:04):
To the bar after the game. Okay, we're counting on you, guys.
We're counting on you guys. Get the job done against Nashville.

Speaker 2 (47:11):
Scie.

Speaker 3 (47:13):
It's gonna be children out there, man.

Speaker 4 (47:15):
But guess what the average of this team is twenty
six point one years and it's not going to get
any older. Well, it'll get it'll get younger, it'll get
a little younger. I'm interesty. After the players joined, what
the new average is? Surprisingly not number one in the league.

Speaker 3 (47:33):
I do believe that is Philadelphia.

Speaker 6 (47:37):
No, I mean, Caven brings that average down so much.

Speaker 4 (47:44):
Yeah it's the New York Red Bulls.

Speaker 3 (47:47):
Yeah, yeah, Red Bulls. Okay, now they're.

Speaker 4 (47:50):
Good academy, but Sandy was building their academy here.

Speaker 1 (47:56):
Any other thoughts on Friday's match, go ahead, Alex, Yeah.

Speaker 7 (47:59):
I hope.

Speaker 6 (48:00):
I'm still waiting to see, you know, something out of Delatorre.
I mean, I think he's got to be the guy
that kind of steps up. I know he's coming back
from the Gold Cup and playing in it and everything,
but I think he's one of the guys that really
needs to step up, and hopefully we see it in
this match.

Speaker 1 (48:21):
Well, I'd like to wrap by saying once again that
we will be back after the Nashville Final result, once
everyone gets home from Snapdragon, except Tony sticks around. Once
Tony gets back up from looking to the head coach
and the players, provided, we will do a Cromaniacs postgame
show tomorrow night after STFC takes on Nashville Soccer Club

(48:48):
Football Club versus Soccer Club. How did the team from Tennessee.

Speaker 3 (48:55):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (48:56):
You want to know something insider information from within the
club or around the club. Actually, technically, Nashville Stadium is
the largest soccer specific stadium in the league.

Speaker 6 (49:09):
Yeah, it's over thirty thousand, right, Yeah, so interesting.

Speaker 4 (49:16):
Yeah, Soccer club football Club football made it out there.

Speaker 5 (49:20):
Soccer.

Speaker 3 (49:20):
Yeah, good job soccer, Soccer City Nashville.

Speaker 2 (49:24):
All right, Hey, they're playing great. Maybe it's happening. It's
happening right in front of our eyes.

Speaker 1 (49:32):
Hopefully that all gets stopped on Friday night, but either way,
we'll be back to chat about it. For everyone who
made it to the end of this episode nine of Crimaniacs,
we say thank you so very much. If you haven't
puted the like button on YouTube yet, please do so.
If you're listening to the audio version, why not just
go over to YouTube and just hit the like button anyway,
and also follow San Diego punto football for all your

Speaker 4 (49:57):
Tony, and follow everything that we do, coverage, sending away
of sending FC interviews from over at Singing Hills, practice, postgames,
everything here on YouTube. Greg.

Speaker 3 (50:10):
Where can we find you?

Speaker 1 (50:12):
Oh, you can find me on Instagram at six one
nine Sports and Life, which of course parrots over to
Facebook as well, but I usually don't accept friend requests
over there.

Speaker 2 (50:21):
I'm on Blue Sky at six to one.

Rafie Canter actually writes on poker Face the incredible show
with Natasha Leone that Ryan Johnson is the showrunner for,
and so he came on as a special guest to
give us all the behind the scenes of how the
show is made and what the you know, how Natash

(51:06):
Leone would change the script, not in a bad way,
but like just how it works, how everything works to
create that show. So it's a great, great episode of
Crossing Streams. Check it out if you've never been introduced
to the show. I think it's a great one to
listen to find it where you find all the stuff.

Speaker 2 (51:21):
And Alex.

Speaker 2 (51:32):
Beautiful.

Speaker 1 (51:33):
Well that's it for now for Alex Paya and Tony Sanchez.
I'm Craig Elliston. We'll talk to you after the match.
Hoping for at least a point.
