Speaker 1 (00:31):
Welcome to the Chromaniacs.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Here we are live.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
It's a postgame edition of the Chromaniacs after a one
one draw against Vancouver Tony Sanchez live from Snapdragon Stadium.
I'm Craig Elston back in our Commaniac studio, alex Pania.
We were all at the match. Shiva in the background,
Tony continuing this hard work you've been add at morning,
noon and night. My friend, Uh, tell me what it's

(01:00):
what the feeling was like downstairs after this club pulls
out a point and keeps a tenuous hold on first
place in the West.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
All I can say is Chieva and I at the
press conference who just walked out, Mikey Vadaski and Pilcher
and Pablosi's Niega spoke and all we can hear and
feel is the large amount of bass from the almost
party that was happening in the locker room right now.
There was a celebratory feeling. Sandy UFC really felt like

(01:31):
they came out to play and that they did very well.
And and I have to agree on a lot of
different ways SANDAYFC getting the tie to remain in first
place against Vancouver white Caps, who again they had all
their players as much as players that they have available,
but for a performance looking at that back line that

(01:54):
had Ian Pilcher at twenty two, the most experienced and
the oldest of the players in that back line tonight,
that made it happen. One one got a point, first
point in three games at Snapdragon in the last three games.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
So what do you got? What did you guys think?

Speaker 4 (02:14):
It was a huge sigh of relief that we got
a point out of this match, and man, it feels good.

Speaker 5 (02:22):
I'm it does.

Speaker 4 (02:23):
It did feel like the guys were a lot more
focused in this match, and man, I think we got
away with one, but I'm happy with the point where
we remained in first place in the West and uh
get you know good positive note to leave on with
with the with the match next week.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
Top line reaction for me is that something I don't
think any of us thought for sure could happen happened,
which is that this club started Mono Dua and Ian
Pilcher at center back, no McVeigh and no McNair, and
both of those young men played outstanding. I thought each

(03:04):
Dua and Pilcher had a track back in the second
half that was do or die all out that they
made the play to make the defensive clearance as opposed
to giving up undoubtedly a goal, the last one for
pilcher Sisniega ran over and was patting him on the
chest and almost thought had to give him Cpri had

(03:25):
to run so hard to contain the attack on the wing.
So wonderful and you know, great contributions from Bombino and
Verhoven as well. It's a place where it shines. Cisniega
was great and makes a save at the end to
keep the point. Right at the death he makes a

(03:45):
safe to keep the point. So a lot of things
to take positively from the defense. I thought that San
Diego FC possessed well. I thought they created chances, especially
as the match progressed more and more chances, but still
clearly issues finishing in the final third, creating without a nine,

(04:10):
always trying to rely on Dryron Lozano buzzing around like
mosquitos on the top of the lake on a summertime
like it's it's difficult, but I think you got to
start with the big positives and the big positives on defense.
Seeing those young players step up and step in.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
Oh yeah, great, great showing by Dua. He really slept
up big for this club. Yeah, first time. This is
the most inexperience we've seeing this back line ever, and he.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
Really slept up huge.

Speaker 4 (04:43):
Pilcher did a great job, and it was just just
holding it down because this match could have easily been
three nothing and because Vancouver gave away just couldn't finish,
just finished their runs and just gave away the costly

(05:05):
you know, two points they could have added. At the
end of this match.

Speaker 5 (05:10):
We we we.

Speaker 4 (05:11):
Were able to you know, get by with the point
and it good and it was all because of the
back line there, and it's and it's really all all
do to mikey varas his coaching staff really getting these
guys ready for this match, getting getting getting Due and
Pultry ready for this match.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
And it's great to.

Speaker 4 (05:29):
See that the coaching on there and is really progressing
to the players and on the pitch.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
Yeah, I mean if if, I mean, if you're Milanilsky
right now, you know, I hate to bring that up,
but like you did, you did, I did right, like
if you if you want to do the math, it's
been one goal since I Meansky has departed. It comes
from a defender, Yeah, Sheva earlier made that. UH just

(05:57):
point out like, yeah, no, that is that is very true.
But today also proves uh, style over individuality because again
the individual aspect of men Aliowski, yes he could have
gotten another point, but here the style, the hard work,
the work rate of San Diego FC really came through.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
And this is a win in a lot of ways.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
Mikey Boadis did say it did feel like a win
at the end, and and and honestly, I can't see
any opposition to that.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
Again, you have a very young back line, you're hurt.
You look at that laundry list of injuries coming into it.

Speaker 3 (06:36):
Chris McVay, uh source to let us know that on
Friday actually, uh, he actually came off from training and
I do believe it was a lower leg lower leg
flash ankle at this point, but he was questionable.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
To come in, didn't end up playing. Yet San Diego
FC was.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
Able to field and just have two goalkeepers on the bench,
Uh to the what was it three outfielders on the
bench and that's that's about it. That's four excuse me,
thank a you four players on the bench available for that.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
So it's an incredible turnaround.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
I do believe you have finished uploading the post match
so we can listen to that here in a bit.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
So what else did you guys think here as I
set that up here?

Speaker 1 (07:20):
Well? Absolutely, First off, just want to say hello to
everyone that we are live on YouTube and for everybody
who is watching or listening after the fact, know that
this is what the Kmaniacs are trying to do, is
get together, whether it's Homo or away after the match,
to bring you the latest, to bring you the sound,
and to bring you our reactions. We've gone to it
twice a week format and we're really happy to have

(07:41):
you here with us. It's especially fun to do it
live and after a match, even though we're burning the
midnight oil here, you know, interfering with Saturday Night Live
and their lunchtime. At least we beat them to the punch.
So really love to see everybody in the chat. As
you can see, we're cycling through some of those chat
comments and bringing them up onto the main screen as well,
so you know, keep them coming. And very very happy

(08:05):
to be here live. As Tony said downstairs, he and
Chieva doing the work San Diego punto football right there,
so we'll be hearing from Mikey vardas we'll be hearing
from me in Pilcher and publicist Niega coming up momentarily.
I wanted to get to a couple of things, one

(08:28):
on each side before we get there, guys, and then
maybe some of the sound will will get us to
some of the answers, because I feel like both sides
were left wanting in the second half. On one side,
you had a video assistant review that called the referee
over to the screen to look at a potential handball

(08:51):
against Vancouver, which I've gone back with the time to
be home now from the supporters section and looked at
it and also listen to the Apple TV broadcast of
that moment, and they were convinced that it wasn't a
great penalty, but it was definitely a penalty, Like, you know,

(09:12):
this is a bummer for Vancouver, but it's definitely a penalty.
And here comes the call, thank you so much, Chieva,
And then the call comes out the other way and
they were like, I can't believe it. Of course in
the in the stadium, we couldn't believe it as well.
So let's start with that. Thoughts on the handball that wasn't.

Speaker 3 (09:37):
Uh man, I mean, on first look, it looked like, okay,
well that's a foul by chooky. But then you start
going into the frame by frame of these plays, and
this is again the var discussion of like if you
couldn't you couldn't call it, then of course you're going
to find something in the frame by frame there's a
chance that you know, it can be a foul first,

(10:00):
but then there's a just a dangerous play just the
high boot that can also be called. But then at
the end it ended up being a va R overturned
because as you said, var Uh communicated with the center
official the steal a lot, I believe, and said, hey,
take a look at it. Even then the center official
was the one that pushed back and gave that official no.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
The recommendation for v R was penalty.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
Take a look at this center official has a final
call and said no, no.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
Penalty, no handball. Therefore there's not even a free kick. Yeah,
that's what I thought too.

Speaker 4 (10:37):
I thought at least we were gonna get a free
kick out of it. When when I was, you know,
I was in the stands and watching it and then yeah, no,
no call, And in the stadium it was very hard
to see what was going on because there was no
no real replay either, and but yeah, I thought I

(10:57):
thought it was a high boot. Maybe maybe at least
get a free kick out of it, but nothing. Again,
this is back to back games where we think we
have something going, where we have a penalty, where we
have a handball situation, and no call is given to us,
Like nothing's going to go in our way with these calls,

(11:19):
and it was disappointing. It really could have turned the
match around a little bit, especially when San Diego was
still playing their game. They're still playing a high possessive
game and still getting some shots on goal and they
were looking good.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
But again, we.

Speaker 4 (11:38):
Kind of needed that one call that kind of probably
could have turned us around there.

Speaker 1 (11:44):
It was confusing, and MLS is going to MLS is
probably the best way that you can go past that
without tying your head in a nod, because I would
like to say that, you know, if the soccer gods
were paying attention to to this MLS match, what happened
a few minutes later was of equally critical importance, which

(12:09):
is that Brian White had to nothing on his foot
dribbling through the defense getting past Sisniega. It was a
tight window, but it was all his and he just missed.
He just missed. He sent it parallel of the goal
line instead of perpendicular and instead of to nothing. And

(12:32):
we're watching it now on the YouTube. I mean, that's
a goal. That's got to be a goal. Play him indoor,
mister White. They'll tuck that every time. You know, you
think Brandon Descoto's going to miss that shot, no chance,
but Brian White misses that shot, and it's just minutes later,
you know, not too many minutes later, that it's the
other way. Losana's creating a corner. The corner gets put

(12:55):
into the middle. Bombino tries to shoot deflected, Pilcher just
lends to Pilcher like a dream, like an absolute dream,
put on a tee for him to wheel through, and
he does it perfectly and drills in the equalizer, gets
SDFC finally a goal on this homestand you know, and

(13:17):
it was feeling like it was going to be woe
Canada for the entire week, and that they were going
to see, you know, six points go north of the border,
no tariff attached. But instead you'll see one at least
held here. And it was the critical one that SDFC needed.

Speaker 3 (13:37):
Yeah, and that's the difference right there, right like they were,
they persevered and and honestly, I had to say that.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
Vancouver just didn't they They came and wanted to win
this too.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
When it was one one, Vancouver didn't sit back and
it was comfortable with the tie. They came out and
they really attacked that defensive line and they knew that
they were young and they were.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
Getting frustrated because of that.

Speaker 3 (13:55):
And so the fact that this line was able to
hold so well, Manodu a playing well defensively, and not
only that, just just his interventions and to cut the ball.
It lead to a talent attack every single time, whether
it's him moving the ball up or just cutting the
ball in a place that you don't normally see a
center back to those cutoffs because he's a center defensive

(14:15):
mid by trade, so he's gonna be in the midfield
a little bit more and float there and then do
that creation he has the ability to move forward, said
he will st it's his favorite player of all time,
So you can definitely see that connection right there.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
But I mean happy for the kids, for Ian Pilcher
as well.

Speaker 3 (14:34):
If there's one player that's that the team and the
teammates really really enjoying, really love having locker room.

Speaker 2 (14:41):
It's Ian Pilcher because he's a great student and he learns.

Speaker 4 (14:46):
Yeah, and I do hope that in some sense we
do get to see a little bit more Manu Dua,
you know, play a little bit more midfield, because he
does have that that ball moment ball control that that
I really like seeing from him, because yeah, from a
from a center back, he was carrying the ball past

(15:07):
the midfield and doing it very well and he felt
so comfortable with with that and you know, passing the
ball around and I really like seeing that from do
uh uh. And and with Pilcher's goal. The funny thing
is it's so interesting when whenever I see a struggling offense,
when when it comes to when it comes to football,

(15:28):
somehow the center backs are involved, right they they they
come through at at an important moment and they just
score a goal for you because no one else is
doing it. Somehow that that it all works out. And
this time we got Ian Pelcher and it was a
great great to see his his first goal. And I

(15:50):
was president for it so and we we were all
all were so that that was that was a lot
of fun.

Speaker 1 (15:55):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (15:55):
Yeah, We're we're really seeing some really good development with
Pilcher from where he he where he came from, starting
that Austin FC game, which was terrible, and now we're
seeing a little bit more, a little bit more. And
I think the one thing I keep saying is if
we had a SDFC two team, he would be playing
on it. He would be getting those minutes. But he's

(16:17):
he has to do he has to do a lot
of growing up on the on the first team.

Speaker 2 (16:21):
So good for good for Pilch.

Speaker 1 (16:26):
That's an excellent point when when you look at the
SDFC offense overall, I think you're seeing not only and
and you know, we can harp on Milana Lasky until
the Cows come home. Uh and you know, then ask
how many goals of Laski would have scored on the
Cows then like three or four at least obviously, But

(16:48):
it's not just a number nine hole in the offense
right now. Yeah, on hell, what what did on hell
do tonight? In terms of impacting the offense? He was
almost never a part of it. Honestly, you know, the
ball was on Lozano's foot or it was on Dryer's
foot on one way or another, trying to weave their
way in on Hell's just trying to draw space a

(17:10):
lot of the time. But the guy, I think that
it is more sneakily being missed right now, Gentlemen is
anavalked door. I feel like his physicality in the midfield
is making it a little bit harder on both Yepe
and Luca on either wing to create to have the
room to move. And I'd love to see obviously Goodoy

(17:34):
out right now on the injured list, but I'd love
to see when he comes back how that helps open
things up as well, because it does feel like right
now that's that's I mean, honestly, they're missing people on
three levels right now. SDFC is they got incredible performance
from the B squad center backs today and you know

(17:57):
center forward is just a hole right now. But uh
sent him Men. You know that's a spot where you'd
love to see on the ball get back.

Speaker 2 (18:07):
Yeah, And so yeah, he's been out of training.

Speaker 3 (18:11):
Uh you know last Thursday he was there towards the
end along with Patty McNair playing some foot tennis. So
it's an injury that's not necessarily keeping out from anything
too physical.

Speaker 2 (18:23):
So they're on their way. So I don't want to
put a big like oh man, red flag. They're not
going to be here for a while.

Speaker 3 (18:29):
It's good that is on its way, but definitely Yepe
is doing extra shifts running, he's actually you've seen him
make a couple of mistakes that aren't very typical of
his and giving up the ball in in that in
that final third where he's very secure and leading MLS
and and all sorts of stats in the transition as well,
but him having to pick up that pace and be

(18:52):
that defender that more often stops the creativity moving forward
because now also there's teams that are scouting San DIEGOEFCI
and if they can focus more on those impact players,
whether it's Dryer, whether it's whether it's Askov, and that's
isolating for them and something that might be about us

(19:12):
also kind of spoke to is, Yeah, that's true, Like
there is more film out there for these teams to
now have a specific game tactic. Where an MLS sometimes
you are able to stick to your play style, but
when there's a team that's very very focused on a style,
then it's easier for there to be a specific tailored

(19:33):
game plan, and this is what their teams are doing
here at snap Dragon. It's a difficult place to play
it here that's not Dragon, and teams are taking that
into account. So that's respect given on San Diego FC.

Speaker 1 (19:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (19:43):
The other thing I'll say about on Goody is the
thing I miss about him most is his leadership on
the pitch, And like, look around, who has more experience
in MLS than he does? And then look at who.

Speaker 2 (19:59):
Was on the pitch today.

Speaker 4 (20:01):
Only Systega has has MLS minutes beyond this year. Everybody
else this is their first year playing FLS. And yeah,
he's such a big presence out there, and he does
a lot, you know, in in that back line and
moving forward, and yeah, he really, he really is greatly missed,

(20:23):
and yeah, I can't wait to see him back back
with this team.

Speaker 1 (20:28):
Uh. Pablo Sisniega, who was part of the postmatch press
conference as well. Uh, you know, CJ. Dos Santos is
obviously a big part of this team. He's been number
one all the way. There's really got no question about that.
Injury has taken him out of the position. He's got
a long term contract here in San Diego. So all

(20:49):
of these things are working in CJ. Doo Santos's favor,
you know, mid term, long term, Pablo Cistiega has played
great and I thought he was really really really good
today and you know, Vancouver is a good team. Sebastian
Burholter I thought really stood out as a major improvement

(21:09):
from not being in the lineup up at BC place
to being in the lineup. He was very creative, very precise,
quite dangerous I thought overall, and a big stress order
on the back line for San Diego, that young back line,
but sist Diego bold in rushing up at multiple moments,

(21:30):
very aggressive in the way he came to challenge the
ball and then of course at the very end a
kick saved to save everything. I mean, what a disaster
would be to concede at the very very very end.
It literally saved that they blew the whistle right after
it was done. So overall, I think really high marks

(21:50):
for Cyst Diego. And if nothing else, Alex SDFC now
knows they do have two goalkeepers they can be happy with.

Speaker 4 (22:01):
Yeah, and it's great to see that out of your
number two keeper too, because and in a normal MLS year,
you would have other competitions right where Sisnega would be
playing a lot more, you know, and for us it
might mean next season, you know, not only will we
be playing like League's Cup or probably US Open Cup,

(22:24):
probably Champions Cup. Right, So there's gonna be plenty of
more opportunities for a number two goalkeeper to be playing.
And yeah, you still, yeah, you could. Still there's ways
to rotate these guys out when when there's more competition
out there. For us, it's it's unique because we're first
year club. But yeah, it's very important to have a

(22:46):
really good number two just in case your number one
just can't be out there. And I'd mean Tony, out
of anybody, you would you would know this, right.

Speaker 2 (22:56):
Yeah, And I mean I've said it.

Speaker 3 (22:57):
I I've been really enjoy the way handles the goalkeeping position.

Speaker 2 (23:01):
And there's a couple of brave.

Speaker 3 (23:05):
Chances where he has to come out and make himself big,
and that's just a prototypical Mexican goalkeeper style where Salis
is salisk Wevos and Salez and you come out make
so big and expand and that's very Los Sanchez esque.

Speaker 2 (23:21):
And so I really enjoy that style.

Speaker 3 (23:23):
But you can tell that there's obviously a player goalkeeper
needs to be really good with his feet, something.

Speaker 2 (23:29):
That dotos is I would say better at than.

Speaker 3 (23:34):
So you want to factor in the shot stopping ability
with the experience that has with CJ.

Speaker 2 (23:41):
What I do know is that on Friday or yes,
what was it Thursday? Excuse me, on training, everybody finished
their training.

Speaker 3 (23:48):
Uho stayed for a good twenty five minutes after training
to keep training. So these two players, they're diamonds cut diamonds.
And I think Mikey Bodos mentioned it as well. Just
what exactly is going on with that gooke the position
and if the signals a change of guard of some sort.

Speaker 1 (24:11):
Hey, listen, you usually don't want to bench a keeper
when they're hot, sort of like in hockey with a
hot tender. You know they call them tenders there and
keepers here. But if one's hot, usually it's it's bad
juju to just sit down somebody when they're hot. Sisniegi's

(24:33):
played really, really well, and he's got a young front
line of young back line right in front of him,
and it's a high possession, high pressure style that leads
to counters. You know, the speed of Vancouver's wings led
to some really really opportune chances tonight that SDFC just
barely avoided conceding once or twice more, at which point

(24:59):
everyone says, oh, back those Santas, But it wouldn't have
been Cistia's fault. The goal that he allowed wasn't his fault.
He made a good say, you know, the ball got
to the right foot of the right player at the
right time. Let's start to mix in some postmatch sound
unless we want to deal with the fact that l
a f C striker Dennis Bwanga is in our chat

(25:19):
demanding a trade to STFC because they pulled him and
then Galaxy came back to find a draw and find
a point tonight. Is this breaking news, guys, I don't
believe so at.

Speaker 2 (25:34):
This point, Donny Bwanga.

Speaker 3 (25:37):
Although I don't know if you want a striker at
this point, alex In plays striker for STFC and yeah,
you get the same production.

Speaker 2 (25:45):
It's not better. I don't know. I haven't seen you
play Alex on on the line.

Speaker 1 (25:48):
I think pil Wogo would be better than you, Alex,
but I still feel confident.

Speaker 4 (25:54):
Man, Yeah, yeah he should. He should probably get the
minutes I can give you a good thirty. I think
I said it this week on a chat somewhere. I'm
good for a good thirty. Anything beyond that I might
be done.

Speaker 1 (26:10):
Hey, thank you for bringing that up, because it reminds
me for one more point I wanted to make before
we get to Mikey about I said, we can cueue
up Mikey and hear from the head coach momentarily. One
of the things that we talked about on the last
edition of The Cromaniacs when we were previewing this match
was it was the first question we asked, can Chucky
Lozano play a full ninety and be effective? Chucky Lozano

(26:33):
played a full ninety, Tony. He was very effective. Once again.
You know, whether he gets a goal himself or not,
Lozano is perpetually attacking, attacking, attacking, He's always stressing the
back line, and he's always as such, creating space for
somebody else.

Speaker 3 (26:51):
A lot about Chuki that is, you know, typical of
a world class striker and a world class player, is
that you can see that there's a level of frustration
uh in his moments that he needs to need that
help creating and moving forward. Because as great as Chuki
has been and how much, how many questions that he
asked of any sort of defense. He can't do it alone,

(27:12):
so he definitely needs somebody there. And and that's where
again Tomas Angel needs to be better to be that
reciprocal player for Chuki's uh you know, idea, make that run,
take a defender off of me.

Speaker 2 (27:24):
Uh, same thing with Dryer on the other side.

Speaker 3 (27:25):
For for Chucky, I mean, it's really good to be
able to see him out there when really have a
really good match when in terms of work rate, but uh,
he's that player that you know that's a style and
is always going to be high work rate and high
high energy at all times. Then you know you'll you'll
get in the face of players, He'll get underneath, underneath
their skin, and and that's that's somebody who you want fighting.

Speaker 2 (27:47):
For your club.

Speaker 4 (27:49):
It's the only time they only made one sub in
their full season.

Speaker 2 (27:54):
Ye who else? Yeah, there was nobody else.

Speaker 4 (27:57):
There was nobody else. And then uh, and and what
what I saw when when Boating came in was Dryer
was now the central forward.

Speaker 2 (28:06):
One they made that move.

Speaker 4 (28:08):
So I'm always excited when when Dryers like up there,
he's probably the better option, especially right now. So maybe
moving forward, you got to move some guys around where
that happens more until there's there's a move that that
brings in another striker.

Speaker 1 (28:28):
Transfer window is approaching. I mean, it's not that far
in the distance anymore. It's it's it's kind of like
that train that's waiting right off of the platform. Uh
at Grossmann, You're like, are you going to get over here?

Speaker 5 (28:41):
Can you?

Speaker 1 (28:42):
Can you just get over here sooner? I'd like to
get on the train. Let's get on the Vadis train.
And here what head coach Mikeivadas had to say after
this one one draw that feels like a win over
Vancouver White.

Speaker 6 (28:55):
Cats on tops with day looking at the available players
versus the performance and a teavre today, how happy are
you with results?

Speaker 1 (29:06):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (29:06):
I think the guys.

Speaker 7 (29:07):
We challenge the guys to show that we're a big squad,
maybe not in numbers right now, availability wise, but in
spirit and quality. And the squad got bigger tonight because
you got two guys drop picks starting at center back.

Speaker 2 (29:21):
One of them Ian, who I think really really grew.

Speaker 7 (29:24):
Up today because he had he wasn't just next to
a veteran guy who he could lean on. He was
actually the guy who probably had the most experience, right,
and then you got Manu who showed that he's got
high potential at the center back position, Oscar bouncing back
off of a tough performance last game and for me,
having probably his best performance of the year so far,

(29:46):
and I think no excuse mentality from the group, which
I absolutely love, would go down a goal either. You know,
the group could easily fall and say, Okay, we just
everything is going against us and we just kept pushing.
And I know it's a one to one tie, but
for me it feels like a win because I think
it's a dominant performance, especially the second half on top

(30:08):
of it.

Speaker 8 (30:09):
And then do you just walk us through in terms
of your experience now going to the latter half of
the season, unless you've got a whole vaar situations and
just your interpretation of B A R to.

Speaker 5 (30:19):
This point in the.

Speaker 7 (30:21):
Yeah, I prefer not to comment on that, just because
I think the referees are doing their best.

Speaker 5 (30:27):
And.

Speaker 7 (30:29):
Yeah, there's sometimes it feels like there's some inconsistencies and
what happened earlier in the year and then what's happening now,
But I really do think that they're doing their best
and the logic behind what they call.

Speaker 1 (30:42):
It is what it is.

Speaker 7 (30:47):
Get another great performance from Diego curious is the start
to night for him?

Speaker 3 (30:52):
C J s one hundred percent or that this noways
a question of who's starting looking over be moving forward.

Speaker 7 (30:57):
No, I mean the first and foremost were culture of
competition and right, so we've always said one of our
values is to embrace competition. This the situation opened up
for Pablo because CJ broke his nose and I wasn't
able to travel. And then now Pablo is on a
nice little run of form. So it's about being a
great teammate and embracing competition. And uh, CJ understands, uh

(31:20):
these situations and uh you know it's a it.

Speaker 5 (31:24):
Keeps things competitive. But at the end of the day, Uh,
it's about who's performing and training who's performing.

Speaker 1 (31:32):
In the games. Uh.

Speaker 7 (31:33):
I know that CJ takes this as a as a competitor,
meaning he's going to raise his level now, which is
only good for the team, But he also takes it
as a great teammate. You know, he's he's happy to
see Pablo doing well, and that's kind of the culture
that we have and I think he exemplifies that really well.

Speaker 1 (31:54):
Great stuff as always from Mikey. Bodis a guy who
I just continue to respect and respect in fact to
the point that I'll just say, very very briefly, the
last time we had his comments on on the previous show,
he talking about Aloski, I thought he could have been
disingenuous for the first time that he wasn't. He was
telling the absolute truth that day, which is that they

(32:17):
weren't going to play a Lowski because he wasn't going
to be on the team. You know, at the time,
it seems like, come on, that's not a thing you say,
but it was true. And right there what he basically
said was CJ. He worked hard and practice, buddy, Pablo's
playing well and be a great teammate, and you'll get
a chance eventually down the road. But I think Sisnie

(32:38):
starts the next game.

Speaker 2 (32:41):
I can see that happening.

Speaker 4 (32:43):
You know, they do have six days off until the
next match, and I think it's going to be up
to what they see in training and you know, who
they feel the most comfortable with and when it comes
to guess really quickly the roster spot and his contract,

(33:05):
they have an option to pick him up for next year,
but it's no guarantee that do and especially do with
the uh with CJ's extension, there's no guarantee that they're
gonna automatically just going to pick them.

Speaker 5 (33:17):
Up for next year.

Speaker 4 (33:18):
So yeah, it could be you know, Pablo fighting for
for a job, you know for next year.

Speaker 2 (33:26):
You know what, there's gonna be enough games League stup
is coming up.

Speaker 3 (33:30):
Uh, you know, you do have to battle tests and goalkeepers,
like Mikey Bada said, like at any given point, it's
going to be CJ's.

Speaker 2 (33:37):
Turn to then step up and be that person that's
sandy UFC needs.

Speaker 3 (33:41):
And again, it's really reinforcing that that competition aspect, going
back to the way that uh, the way that uh
excuse me, Yeah, Laffelson and Nagative lost their spot to
Bombino really and then Joe that that that's that's as
data driven as are going to get and it's based

(34:01):
on empirical evidence of what's been happening in training and
in games, and it's been working.

Speaker 2 (34:07):
That's the thing. It's been working, and that's where.

Speaker 3 (34:10):
You know, it's it's a sometimes it's frustrating, it's frustrating
seeing the same players try the same things and then
whenever it is that they divert a little bit from it.
In this style, it's penal thossos. They're just throwing the
ball trying to find schooky and it's just wrong. It
just doesn't look right whenever they just deviate from that.
So again, just just kudos to Mikey Badis and what

(34:30):
his teams have been able to do. And if they
got a tie against the Vancouver white Caps, who wanted
that first spot here and they have incoming players again,
I have no way to question what they're what they've
been doing here.

Speaker 2 (34:43):
It's incredible.

Speaker 1 (34:45):
This was a line in the sand game. If they
lose it, there's a lot to say, you know, if
they lose this match, there's a lot to say that
given up first place, you know, potentially shut out, you know,
in entire week's worth of of home matches and no goals,
sin Selaski left and so on and so forth and
so on and so forth. Instead, Vancouver's getting on a

(35:08):
plane pissed, kicking themselves. How did we miss an open
goal twice? How did we concede late to a center back?
You know, we kept we did so much work to
keep Lozano and Dryer bottled up. We did so much
work to keep Luca Delatory on an island so he

(35:29):
can't impact the match. And what do we wind up with?
Pilcher scores a goal and some kid named Doua that
we don't even get like was was he kicked in
the draft?

Speaker 2 (35:39):
What you know?

Speaker 1 (35:40):
And he gets a huge clearance and then Pilcher gets
a clearance Sis Diego the backup keeper on every sense,
white Caps, you know, whatever their cromaniac show is, should
be just filled with venom this evening in regret. So
I've got to agree, guys with Mikey when he says
it's a it's a in of a draw, and people

(36:02):
laugh about that that are outside soccer, but this is
the example of a draw that's a win. It's this one.

Speaker 5 (36:09):
Yeah, I have to agree.

Speaker 4 (36:10):
And yeah, we don't see Vancouver and until maybe playoffs,
and we get four points out of the season, then
that's great way to cap off this season.

Speaker 5 (36:23):
Series here.

Speaker 2 (36:26):
Where to white cap it off? I'm tired, I'm here
at the stadium. I'm one of these days, guys, we
make it happen.

Speaker 1 (36:38):
Let's hear from Ian Pilcher, and he's the guy who
pilched the goal away from h Vancouver tonight. What at
performance for young Ian Pilcher. More post match coverage live
on the Cromanians.

Speaker 8 (37:01):
You can just go ahead and talk to me through
the game where you were part of the back line,
where you were the oldest and most experienced in that young,
very young back line, and then walking through.

Speaker 1 (37:12):
The goal as well.

Speaker 9 (37:13):
Yeah, the backline was young this time, but we all
had experience and you know, we're midway through the season,
so I've been learning information from all the guys on
the back line, you know, people like Chris and Patty and.

Speaker 5 (37:23):
Even Franco and the goalies behind me.

Speaker 9 (37:25):
So I might have had more experience, but it's coming
from guys throughout the whole culture.

Speaker 5 (37:29):
And then the goal was phenomenal.

Speaker 7 (37:31):
Uh.

Speaker 9 (37:32):
You know, we practiced a lot of set pieces and
it came out to Bombino and trying to just be
in a good position and it fell to my feet
out of luck, and you know, after that it was
a bit of a blur, but super.

Speaker 5 (37:42):
Nice to do it with this club and just so
happy to be in the moment with everyone there.

Speaker 6 (37:47):
And then one's a been like obviously, like you mentioned
learning from the new teammates as well, but what is
it entergating that extra year that you're hitting to make
sure that you're prepared for these moments out of substitute,
We're now sorry.

Speaker 5 (37:58):
You could you repeat it if you care? That through
just the thing that it takes to make sure that
you're ready to go in for these.

Speaker 9 (38:05):
Moments and trainers, well, yeah, yeah, it's just the mindset, right,
You're a proach training one hundred percent almost like it's
a game. You know, we want to train it our
very best, and you know when you first come here,
you want to soak up all that information and just
learn and learn and then apply that to the game.
And I think that just takes a mindset and mental
focus to do that, and being having an open mindset
with your teammates, right, you know, knowing that they might

(38:26):
know more, and being willing to put my humility aside
and say, okay, I can learn from.

Speaker 1 (38:30):
Me, great stuff for me. In Pilcher continuing to reflect
the culture of this young organization filled with young players
that are being given opportunities that they frankly would not
receive in other markets in MLS right now, and for Pilcher,

(38:51):
necessity is the mother of invention, right, That's another one
of those old saws, And in this case, it's inventing
a great match for both I in Pilture and then
I'll do a shout out that's an organizational wine.

Speaker 5 (39:08):
That's huge.

Speaker 4 (39:08):
And yeah, we're continuing continuing to see like this team
grow up and keep growing and and this is the
type of team that Tyler Heaps and the rest of
the front office that they envision. They want to see
these young guys keep growing and developing and and that's
how we're going to keep building our roster, not just

(39:30):
this year, but for years beyond. And and you know
that's all It's always going to be young guys eighteen
twenty twenty one year olds that are that are going
to be coming through the system and playing first team
minutes for this club. So that that's pretty exciting to
see and be witnessing a pretty young club that's winning.
They're winning on.

Speaker 2 (39:50):
The pitch.

Speaker 3 (39:54):
And they're backing it up as I say, like they
this is a this is a family, is a team,
and they they got a result out with as close
to the bone as you can get with the roster
and this is only going to make them stronger as
a unit coming in. And again, the most important thing
about the players coming in I think now is definitely chemistry.
If you're Tyler Heaps, you're Mikey about us, you're very

(40:16):
intentional about who is going to fit into this roster,
who's going to bring the vibes up and not mess
with them, because again, it's a very delicate situation and
very fine. Much like the play style, if one person
messes up on that play style, it's almost catastrophic. It's
almost guaranteed to be a goalscoring opportunity for the opponents.

Speaker 2 (40:37):
Same thing with the chemistry.

Speaker 3 (40:38):
You have one person that's just going to mess with
that wherever it is in the defense, on the front end,
in the midfield, this whole thing can start blowing up
and imploding.

Speaker 2 (40:46):
So very important days.

Speaker 3 (40:48):
Ahead for San Diego FC, Tyler Heaps and Mikey Abadas
for how they're going to construct the rest of this
roster for the season.

Speaker 1 (40:57):
Do we still have sisniega to hear from.

Speaker 3 (41:00):
I'm looking at the niega and it looks like the
Spanish one is the one that got uploaded, So we
can have.

Speaker 2 (41:05):
Those layer or we can.

Speaker 1 (41:07):
Yeah, no, that's fine, that's so good.

Speaker 3 (41:09):
Essentially, he said that you know, he's very thankful for
the opportunity and he's stepping up for it and and uh,
you know, very proud of the fact that he has
a very young back line, and after he actually went
up to Mano Dua and just said, hey, I'm so
happy for your performance, thank you for having me back,
and again very very very uh reciprocal of that love
and that he's getting on the back end.

Speaker 2 (41:31):
So, uh, this team is a team, and this is
what in soccer you definitely need.

Speaker 3 (41:36):
A team will always every single time supersede individual talents,
and that's what santi Oc has on both ends.

Speaker 1 (41:43):
Well that's beautiful. So the last thing for me really
is that I thought it was a huge night for
Frontra SD and a great night for the North End.
And if everyone is gonna you know, I guarant garan
bleep and tea. We don't have a d explicit on
for this one and tonight yet and I'm not going
to be the one to break it, but I guarantee

(42:04):
you they will not be mentioned in the match story
tomorrow in the Union tribute, because there's nothing negative to
pin because all that the section did was not only
bring the heat and the noise and the energy for
ninety eight minutes that you know, concourse through the stadium

(42:27):
and through the Apple TV broadcast as well. Also a
beautiful tifo today, a beautiful tifo one that it was
told to me, the San Diego fire marshal literally tried
to set on fire before the match to prevent it
from going up because he was so sure that it

(42:47):
was a flammable material that he actually tried to light
it on fire. Fire marshals set in fires, but it
didn't because they did it right. And it was both
gorgeous and intricate and a wonderful message of inclusivity and
welcoming and love knowing no border. And I just couldn't

(43:11):
be prouder. If you're watching on YouTube there it is
no borders within our hearts. We stay, we stand, we
all belong. Absolutely beautiful from from Tea SD today.

Speaker 4 (43:25):
And I think the coolest part about that is the
club recognizing that type tifot on their social media because
you know, we've heard the things about La Galaxy, right
you know there, it's not it's not like they're supporting
their their the supporter section their fans in that way,
and it's a great message. Like you said, I loved it.

(43:48):
You know, me and Monica, we were both there and
we both pointed to it. It's like, hey, look that
that It looked looked incredible in person.

Speaker 2 (43:57):
Yeah, you'll hear it later.

Speaker 1 (43:59):
We Uh.

Speaker 3 (44:00):
There was somebody from the club in the press box
and in the press in the press conference who did
ask Im Mikey about us UH and Seas about that support,
and they both said, hey, thank you.

Speaker 2 (44:10):
They're they're growing onto their own. They're they're having their
growing season.

Speaker 3 (44:15):
And it's very much an ambiance that is growing throughout
the stadium. There's different pockets and again from up here
in the press box, I hear it right.

Speaker 1 (44:23):
Like that.

Speaker 3 (44:25):
Is getting louder at least the collapse you're seeing the
movement the rally to howl. I mean, you know, good
job marketing at that point, and good job supporters for
representing yourself independently in that sense as well.

Speaker 4 (44:40):
Yeah, this is the first match I saw the fans
in my section doing the SDFC pre pre match and
and it kept going right. It started in the front
row and then it started with us that they kept
growing behind this. I'm like, oh man, this is starting
to become a thing. Here is Yeah, good job supporter section.

Speaker 1 (45:03):
Great stuff all the way around. Huge point secured, while
the issues remain for San Diego FC. It's one more
match taken off of the ledger, heading toward Nashville on Friday.
Then you're into League's Cup, which you know you'd love
to succeed, you'd love to do well. It'd be great,
but it's not the same. It's not going to count

(45:24):
for MLS Cup along the way. So closer and closer
to a transfer window that can bring reinforcements that can
take this team to a new form. It's kind of crazy.
It's almost the same thing over here with the baseball club.
Closer and closer to the trade deadline, can we get there?

(45:45):
Is there going to be a deal? What's it going
to be? Yo? Tyler Heaps has promised, He said that
reinforcements are on the way. The deals have been agreed to,
it's just a matter of announcing them. So pulling this
point out Vancouver, soorry about it, head on back beautiful place,
British Columbia. But uh, no win for you against Sandygo

(46:07):
FC this season? Any other closing thoughts, gentlemen.

Speaker 4 (46:13):
Just I'm excited for Thursday. Transfer window opens up. I
hope Heaps is ready and we have some more things
to talk about on Thursday. And and lastly, it was
great seeing both of you gents out, yes for the
first time. So yeah, great, great night all around.

Speaker 10 (46:35):
You're muted, Tony, yeah, let me let me let me
I'm trying to pull that up real quick, just because
it was really cool to see everybody out there, you know,
and at the Purple Lot, and it's it's part of
the magic here, right.

Speaker 2 (46:48):
I saw some under the table gambling in a positive
way happen.

Speaker 1 (46:53):
Out there, so yeah, that's right, that's true. I'm very
smoky was being auctioned out there.

Speaker 4 (47:03):
Yeah, it was so cool to see everybody there. Everyone
I interacted, we had talked to say hi too.

Speaker 1 (47:10):
It was yeah up, yeah, I love them. The continuing
growth of support for the show as well. There they are,
the komaniacs out in the wild, the commaniac summer fit
on full display there, uh for all of us, and
thank god at least a point, because otherwise we'd never

(47:32):
be seen in public again. So things worked out and
we can work it out to get on down the road.
Coromaniacs number ten coming up on Thursday, match against Nashville
on Friday. We'll be back to chat about it all,
but until then. A one one draw tonight means STFC
gets to put their head to pillow, still in first

(47:52):
place in the West for Tony Sanchez live at Snapbracket
Stadium and Alex Panda. I'm Craig Elston. Thank you for
being there. Hit that like button. If you're watching on YouTube,
please don't forget to hit subscribe for the next show
and we'll see you next time on the Cromaniacs
