(00:00):
The following is brought to you bythe p l D Projects Network. It's
me, it's me, It's pl D. What's up, everybody.
(00:53):
It's me, it's me. It'sp l D. And I'm Richard Eric
Cherry, and I'm Maddie Ganna. And this is class action. This is
the interwebs. Motherfucking class action. That's all I gotta say about that.
How are we doing today? Myfriends? Your last last episode, you
(01:15):
told me not to uh interfere whenthe other people are talking injury. Just
did that to me? I did? I did? I apologize? I
almost followed. Yeah, I'm alittle. I'm a little. I'm a
little out of whack. I toldyou guys before. I got a new
set up here. I'm still workingwith it. I'm not quite myself yet.
I'm not into the whole thing yet. But we'll get there. We'll
get there. I apologize. Richard. How is your day? How is
(01:38):
you again? Oh? Thank youfor asking, sir. I feel very
friend. That's seriously, I'm doinggood. I'm doing good. It's it's
a shty we weather outside, butit's kind of nice in here, very
nice. And you, Maddy,I'm doing good. I did love better
(02:00):
than yesterday. Yesterday I woke upand I couldn't move. I had,
like my back just completely fucking shutdown, and it was terrifying, Like
I couldn't get out of bed forlike half an hour. Oh, I
could not move. We're back myentire back, Like I couldn't feel anything.
Wow, just like, oh,this is something's really fucking wrong.
(02:23):
But today I can move around fine. I went to the gym, I
worked out everything back to normal.I just had a random day yesterday when
my back was just like nope, complete system shot down, like you're not
doing anything, and it just hitme. I'm like, damn, I'm
getting to that age now. Ijust wanted to ask you how old are
(02:43):
you, Maddy? If I don'tmind me ask thirty one, I'm gonna
be thirty two and over thirty classeswhere it starts to break down. This
is where your body starts to go, like, dude, take it easy.
I don't want to hear about this. Motherfuckers. Okay, but it's
like I thought, with the yearsof abuse that my body has taken,
(03:05):
that I knew this day would startto come, but I didn't think it
would be now. Oh here,Mad Maddie, Maddie, We're not too
old for this ship. We're nottoo definitely definitely makes me the MYRTA of
this group here because I'm definitely tooold for this shit at this point.
(03:29):
Well, I want to say Imentioned this before, right before we went
live, that this might be thehardest matchup that I have had in all
of Class Action. I've kind ofsaid that before we got hard matchups,
but this one was so difficult. Each category felt like it was I could
go either way. I'm still notsold on all categories, I guess before
(03:50):
I have one solid answer right now, and even that's like seventy five percent
solid at this point, like thiswas, I'm so excited to watch these
ones again. Both movies were alot of fun to watch, and that's
the best. That's the best timeyou get to do this movie. I
hate like when we have by thistime the franchise, When we do franchise
run, by the time we enterthe fourth franchise, the fourth film of
(04:12):
a franchise, you're basically looking atwhich one's less worse exactly, But these
two are still at the top ofthe game at this point. I mean,
this was really, really wonderful.I mean, I'm glad we're I
didn't get here though, because wewill have a shitty one later on.
That we probably should promise the dudeto finish out the franchise. If Lethal
Finale has ever made Leth the Webinfive, that we should go back and
(04:33):
finish with Leath Webon Finale versus agood day to die Hard. But I
can tell you that will be assure, at least for one side of it.
We shouldn't do that. I mean, I don't think this is it.
This is it, this is thefinal nail in the coffin. I
can't. I can't do anymore.Like I love, I fucking love Leah
(04:56):
gets but like I need a break. You need you need a break from
Dieharden'll be a weapon. No Ineed. I just need a break from
Leah. And now now I getwe'll rig some get about it. I
need a break. Well, it'sfunny you say that. Actually, actually
I liked him less than three thanI did in the four. I thought
it was better, even better asmuch. That's what it is and that's
(05:18):
what it does. All right.Well, you know what, let's just
get into we're we're kind of teasingeach other. Now with the talking about
let's get right into it. Wedo have one game we like to play
here on class action before we comeinto the categories. Uh, we do
have well, I should have thecategories first. I'll give you the categories
that then we'll talk about let's theshow about first. Did I tell you
that already? Ah, it's right. Thanks for calling me out on that.
(05:42):
This show that when we put twoitems up in either movie or TV
world, could be actors, couldbe directors, could be characters, could
be composers, could be anything youwant put up against each other. We
have five sometimes six, custom madecategories. You go head to head and
we figure out at the end ofwhich one is truly victorious, which one
leaves the death cage standing. Thisis kind of this is kind of a
(06:06):
rough one this week. Like Isaid, this is gonna be a slobbery
knocker, as Old Jr. WouldHave said in w W Days. Before
we get to that, we havethe five categories. They are similar,
similar to actually pretty much the sameas last week. You're not gonna do
heroes again. We will do sidekicks, better, sidekicks better. Villain is
a mainstay all four of them havedifferent villains, better story, and also
(06:28):
it leads into better sequel, whichis kind of cool, better action,
and our last one, which iswe had initially as better one liners,
but we've kind of change it tobetter one liners. Quotes don't can talk
about any kind of dialogue we want, and that's quickly becoming my favorite category.
Honestly, I'm gonna keep that asa standby throughout fun to just go
through all these equips here and there. Uh see you guys, try Hey,
Refis, I'm good to see youin the show. As always.
(06:51):
I'm sorry I don't even see yourbuddy there, Jarmy. You said he's
gonna come out us from being late, but he's not. I thought,
Chris. You can usually like becausein a stilling of people are usually very
punctual when something is supposed to start. Oh oh, it starts, and
you know sometimes we start three orfour. So he likes to give us
(07:11):
ship for them. Well, he'swelcome to do that. It's blame PLD.
It's fine show. When he does, we'll we'll we'll get it.
We'll get back to my bro you. Oh, that's right, that's right,
he's he's late. So let's geton him. Oh all right,
let's go to him. He shouldget to our first game. We used
to be over Ed Harris. Play. Now it's we're going to spin a
(07:35):
wheel with eight names on it,and whatever name comes up in our spin,
we'll insert into die Hard, Livefor your die Hard or Leather the
Weapon four. We could be recastingsomebody, we could be writing a new
role for somebody. Either way,we're not prepared, which makes it more
fun. So let's get to it. Here is our wheel this week,
(07:58):
in case you cannot read it allI'm down here. We got Ed Harris,
Bruce Campbell, Thank you, PJ. Just I got it for you,
PJ Okay, Ed Harris, BruceCampbell, Halle Berry, Jerry b.
Margot, Robbie Nicholas Cage, AngelaBassett, and Selva. All right,
to get our brand names off there. And so we're gonna spin this
(08:22):
wheel twice. That's true. Thefirst one is for Live Free or die
Hard. Here we go. Soundedlike it cheers for fun. I mean
the real while the real wills asit does. I can't say anything else.
(08:48):
So we're gonna start with Ed Harrisin Live Free or die Hard I'm
gonna put it right on you,Jarvi, because I love you're When you're
not prepared, you're the best.Sum's gonna put it right on you to
be he's prepared. We can preparelike guys, to be honest, do
you prepare every person on the list? You're not prepared either. This is
the point of the game now, right, because we're not pretty much prepared
(09:09):
for you. But I want togive you the least amount of prepared time
as possible. All right now,I'm trying to buy some time at the
moment. If you can tell,I did notice that stalling there. So
what is this new equipment you got? Pod? When you were talking about
that? No, we're talking aboutwhat would Ed Harris play and it you
live for your die hard? Well, my new equipment I got, I'll
give you a little second. Igot you monitors. Now that's why my
ankle is a little different. It'sa little bit. My desk is not
(09:31):
quite big enough for it. ButI'm making it work. I'm squeezing it
all in. We'll make it work. And here we go. Yeah,
Kelly in the shado. Of course, I'll give you a little more time.
Kelly. Hello, Hello, Ithink I think I got one.
What the fuck I get it.I get it. Party at Harris.
Damn it, Paul, it's notmy fault. It's not my fault.
Now, I know how the smoteout and felt because they alwa said the
digital wheel was rigged. I didn'tdo this, I really didn't. I
(09:52):
just typen the names and click it. It's not your fault. It's not
my fault. It's not your fault. It's it's not your fault. I
love it. Okay, So enoughtime has been wasted, enough of the
bullshit. So I think this isthe time has come where we can cast
(10:16):
Ed Harris as John McClean. Sothis is the first movie that Bruce Willis
is going full bald. I mean, yeah, you know what, I'm
all in all, I'm all inon that. I could. I could
easily like think of a old forhim to play John mcclin's dad or something,
(10:37):
but we've been we've been doing itso much lately. I just want
him as the freaking lead. Iwant him as a because I don't think
he's ever played like the Rambo typeaction character, right, He's always had
like this sort of that authority typefigures. He played a mercenary in like
nineteen eight, in like nineteen eightythree, but it was kind of not
(10:58):
quite the same as this kind ofcharacter is still a little different than this.
So I get what you're saying, and I agree with you, especially
because this is not I will saythis out Frank, it's kind of weird
that this is still a Diehard moviebecause Diehard is always such a specific kind
of film. For the first two, at least the third one kind of
gets off into its own thing. But that was kind of like, it's
(11:18):
on its own grounds. It's justJohn McClain movies now instead of a Diehard
movie, which is a little bit, a little bit different to me.
I know what your plant is,and I'm I'm going to discuss this point
exactly in better story. Okay, fair enough, So making it Harris as
John McClain at this point, Ithink I think I'd like to see him
as John McLain. I think, yeah, he's more grizzled now, he's
(11:41):
a dad type. I'm good withthat. I'm very good that, all
right, Maddie. How about you? Do you have a choice If we're
putting Ed Harris the badass at Harrisinto the movie, we got to take
a badass out and in die HardFull Lift for You or die Hard,
there is a legit badass in thecast, and I hate to take him
(12:03):
out of it, but there's onlyone worthy to have Ed Harrison there.
We've spoken on this show before aboutDistrict thirteen. District thirteen ultimatum, Cyril
Raphaelim, two time International Kickboxing Federationchampion. The dude is a legit assassin.
(12:24):
Yes, and I couldn't think ofanyone the silent, deadly killer that
Ed Harris could play. Oh,I like that. I do like that.
That's cool. For those of youwho may not know who he is,
he's the guy that's he's in thechopper with the launcher that John sends
the car into the Frenchman who jumpsout of the helicopters a bit. That's
(12:48):
kind of a bad move. Iwas pretty impressed by that. Is a
clear French dude. Yeah, yeah, French. Yeah he's French. Yeah,
he's a legit kickboxing World champion.Dude is an absolute murderer. Sorry,
yeah, I'm taking I'm taking onebadass out, putting one bad ass
in. I love it. Ilove it. I'm all Internet. Well
the one I'm gonna put in Idid I did in my head for a
(13:11):
minute ago. How funny would itbe the Harris played the warlock like Kevin
Smith's character. But I'm not gonnago that rude. I'm not gonna go
to the room. I'm gonna goa little bit more, a little bit
more straightforward with him, because Ithink he would put pull us off very
well. I'm gonna put him asMiguel Bowman deputy I mean it probably changed
his name, probably Mike Bowman nowat this point, but Deputy Director of
the FBI Cybris Scuri. Cliff Curtisis great in his role, but a
(13:35):
ladder day ed Harris in that role. I think he'd be commanding in that
that presence He's kind of reminded meof his absolute power character, whereas like
he's definitely overwhelmed by the day,but he still like maintains this like absolute
presence of like leadership like throughout thewhole, even though the whole when he's
being fucked him, he's he hasno idea what to do at this point,
(13:56):
but he's also not like an assholeabout it too, Like Brews comes
and have a cool dynamic between them. It's not something you see very often.
You almost expected him to be anasshole and be giving joh McLean a
tough tough time the whole time, but it's not. He's doing his job.
He knows that Johnathan can help outin his way. I mean the
other people can't as they I meanthe other divisions come off. That's that's
one of my favorite parts of thething. The other divisions come in.
He's like, yeah, great,we have all these tables filled out,
(14:18):
Go sit over there. We'll letyou know if we need anything kind of
I love that part. I thinkthat Harris would fit very well off that.
And yes, he is not adad type. He's a great grandpy
time. At this point we're talkingback in the day, Kelly, I
think actually he could do that rolenow. I really do think he could
do that role right now pretty much. I love it too. Somebody maybe
(14:43):
somebody won you know, who shouldwho? Who he should team up with?
Do like a body like a likea more veteranside body cup movie.
Him and Samuel L. Jackson, like they're just around the same age.
Because Samuel L. Jackson, Ithink trying seventy three, Yeah, he's
gonna be Yeah, I'd love tothe only the only problem is they're both
(15:07):
hard asses. But that's kind ofthat kind of be the magic of the
movie seventy four for Samuel Jackson,by the way, But yeah, that'd
be good. I was gonna say, throwing them into like a uh a
kind of other guy situation with Samuel. But yeah, guy, that'd be
kind of fun too. Although it'skind of interesting, I actually that would.
(15:30):
I actually pitched us a while ago. If they ever decided to do
a true Detective season four, Ihad pi Ed Harris and Nick Cage together.
It should have been a fun time, I think. Also, but
Sam Jackson be pretty cool in thatworld. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
alrighty, let's move on to leavethe weapon four. Let's get that wheel
(15:52):
back up, and we cannot haveEd Harris on this one. It's okay.
Ed Harris is always on the wheel. I just expect to see him
next week. He is. Heis always on. He never gets replaced,
that's true. Something tells me BruceCampbell is gonna come up. That
would be funny. You will.Oh no, we'll go Robbie. Oh,
(16:12):
I've got the perfect one, perfectone for this Okay, Oh what
for? Oh no, we're doinglethal and are we? Yeah? No,
(16:33):
I was gonna replace it with MaryElizabeth Winstead. Okay, you go
fast. I gotta think or Iwent first before, all right, so
I'll go first. At this point, I gotta say, this is maybe
a stalling tactic, but the theWeapon four is actually harder to replace somebody
in because they're all mainstays. It'snot like pieces that they kind of put
(16:55):
in each movie, like every personyou think about, like the psychiatrists been
there is just Leath a Weapon oneand like, you're not gonna put her
as a psychiatrist? I would thinkI actually I might, But if I
was, I almost feel like it'stoo much because she's been there for a
while. But you know what, that's not about that. It's not about
where he just told me that you'regonna do that though I won't. I
won't. I won't do that.I'm gonna have this as a different story.
(17:17):
Here we go, Here we go. Off the top of my head,
she's gonna be playing the daughter ofLeo guests. Oh yes, that's
perfect. Guess his daughter comes backinto her into his life, some kind
of thing and he had something duringhis like criminal days, he had a
fling, didn't know, and allof a sudden she goes back into his
(17:41):
life and she is like just ashe is. So it's great, saying
Boker Robbie. It is like bombshellof a character, acting exactly like he
does. She tries to help aboutwith all the new business ventures, the
p I ventures to he like,she's like work, he's a double PI
with them, and so you havethey have to go to a team together.
And then like he gets see Riggsand her talking fuck another one,
but it's Marmot Robbie, so likethey're like it's almost like, how is
(18:03):
that coming out of this? Idon't, I don't. This is not
computing off the top of my head. That's my pick. Okay, I
got it, I got it,I got it. I'm gonna ride it
roll. Okay. I don't knowhow this is gonna work in my brain.
It does hit me out on thisone. Okay. See the end
(18:26):
of the end of the movie,Leo's going past a pet store. Okay,
he walks in. Who's behind thecounter, Margot Robbie, he said,
And Leo says, I'm looking fora friend, you know, to
come with me on my PI,on my PI adventures, come with me
on these training Excited. Whatever hedoes, she goes, you know,
(18:48):
I think I've got just the thingfor you. She pulls out box with
a frog in it. No,no, no, you heard my soul?
Do you heard my soul too?I can barely talk, all right,
Jarby's up to you. What doyou got? Oh, it's gonna
put her as a psychiatrist, butyou kind of shrug it off. So
(19:10):
I feel like that's that's the boringanswer. Now I'm gonna I'm gonna rewrite
the story a bit. I'm gonnahave her as I'm gonna have her as
the flamethrower terrorist at the beginning ofthe movies when they when they unmasked the
person, it's her with wavy blondeair and she's completely off of rockers,
(19:34):
like Harley Quinn type of character. But they don't kill her. They don't,
they don't blow her up. Butshe returns at the very end when
Riggs and Mert a fighting jet leeand they're both getting their ass kicked and
they both fall in the water, and then she busts in like Leonardo dicapri
and once upon a Time in Hollywoodand goes to sumone ordered freaking fried sour,
(19:57):
I don't know some racist things shecan pull off in Tarantina writing that
doesn't work in movies, and thenuses the flame thrower Jelley. I okay,
I'm here for it. I'm hearfor it. Oh man, I
don't know who wins this week?Is kind of weird, but only if
tarantin or I said scene, becausehe can pull off these like borderline racist
(20:18):
things, so we don't work inmovies. A little weapon written by Quentin
Tarantino to hear for that, Actuallythat I went way off script of this
one. I'm sorry. That's okay. That's when you do best though,
when you go completely off script, that's when that's when you shine. Don't
know who do you think wins thisweek? Chack? You can tell us
people who you think wins this weekas well. But I like gets his
(20:41):
daughter, he gets his daughter.I think I went this week, this
week went this week. I don'tknow, man, mine mine want to
get me canceled probably, so,I don't know. But if you look
back, and this is going tocome up when we get to the quotables
bit at a lot of what thelanguage in that movie wasn't exactly the most
(21:04):
Uncle Benny, Nope, Oh yeah, A lot of stuff we can't say.
I'm gonna try try not to sayto Muff, I had to limit
a lot of Oh well, allright, let's move on. We don't
need to declare where That's quite fine. We don't need to actually win on
this one. Let's move on toour categories of the week. We got
(21:29):
better sidekicks. Better sidekicks. We'regonna let I'm gonna let Maddie lead with
villain. So you lead with canI can I lead with that? Yes?
Better sidekick? J Okay. SoI didn't agree at all with what
(21:49):
Maddie said. I think Leo Getsis fucking back in this movie. He's
like he's completely redeemed. So lastweek I said I couldn't stand Leo gets
at all in Leath a Weapon three. This is where he's back and even
better as before. He had thosefunny moments, he had those one liners
he had I mean, he hadmore of a storyline, and he had
(22:14):
a lot of depth to his character, which I love. He made me
cry in this movie. He actuallymade me cry in a freaking lethal Weapon
movie, the fourth one, andit's a story about a fucking frog.
I mean, come on, Thenwe got Chris Rock, Who's I think
such an enjoyable addition to the group. But put it up against Diehard,
(22:37):
for I think Justin Long is afine sidekick. I think Kevin Smith is
way more of an interesting and enjoyablecharacter. When it comes down to this
category, I'm gonna ask myself whodo I want to hang out with?
Who am I Who do I wantsidekicks? As I'm definitely picking Leo Gats
and Lee Butters. I mean, who wouldn't freaking want to get high in
(23:00):
a dentist office on freaking what they'rebraiding? Laughing guys. I mean,
that's that's a group that I wantto hang with, and I think they're
They're way more enjoyable as characters.I know, because because aren't poor.
It's more of a serious movie.So it's kind of unfair, but I
don't know. I just that's whoI'm going. That's where I picked my
(23:22):
partners. As let me ask youa question, then does ren Renee Russo
a sidekick? So at this point, I mean, like it's kind of
tough for me because I mean,I definitely call her a sidekick in yeah,
not in this movie. I thinkI don't think for the sidekick,
because then you'd say, then youcan say MARTA's daughter or wife is also
a sidekick, which you can argueto a point. I mean she sure
(23:45):
Laura does kick ass. Why she'spregnant. I think she has a few
action scenes actually in the movie, but in in the sense where I'm going
to versus two, I feel justinlong and Kevin Smith versus Joe Pian But
you got considered, you got toconsider Cliff Curtis and Live for your Diehard.
It's kind of a side kickas ina way, it's just supporting a
(24:06):
role with them. It's there whenyou can think about adding to that mix.
You could. So I don't know, Okay, so you're you're saying
with the webbing four, that's s'that's fine. I'm still I guess I'm
asking. So I'm trying to figureit out myself because I have similar similar
thoughts. I do think that Leogets I do wonder if I took out
(24:26):
the final moments of Leo gets, would I still have the same impact of
Leo gets to the rest of theseWeapon four or is that like the last
speech like clouding a little bit,but it is part of it, but
it is part of it, soI can't take it out. As far
as Chris Rock goes, I talkedto actually was talking to PG about this
because we're doing Lead the Weapon thefranchise now over on two Mediakowait tues on
(24:48):
film. The problem I had withChris Rock in this movie. It's not
a huge problem, but like itreally feels most of the time, at
least like fifty to seventy percent ofthe time that he is in there to
do his stand up bits, likethey put his character in there. It
kind of took me out because alsoly, every once in a while he start
(25:11):
riffing one of his comedy bits andI'm like, okay, there's Chris Rock's
stand up I don't see him.I don't see detectively, butters I see
Chris Rock the stand up comedian atthat point, and it kind of like
throw me throws me off a littlebit. So I can't say I love
Chris Rock in this movie before thatreason. He is funny. I laughed
most things he does, and thebits with with Joe Pesci are great,
but I kind of like, Idon't know if that work for me comparatively,
(25:33):
I do. I guess I dolike Leo gets in this one.
If we do have Russo in there, I like that as well. I
gotta say just so Long. I'ma big fan of Justin Long. I
think he's underappreciated and underrated. Ido like him in this and I got
did you add Kevin Smith to it? And then you add maybe even having
Cliff Curtis in it. I wasreally getting a character that I really appreciated
it as a different kind of character. I'm going to go die Hard,
(25:56):
Lee le Fri or die Hard justweird to me because I didn't I didn't
think even going to this episode,I thought it was just do the what
before, but keep it. Thinkingabout it again, I love Leo Gatz,
but I think that I gotta gowith Justin Long under on Justin Long's
underrated, Matt Ferrell and Kevin Smithas a warlock. Yeah, I'm gonna
(26:17):
go with dire Mat. It's upto you for me. This is kind
of one on one. I thinkLeo Leo kind of takes a little bit
of a step back and leave theweapon for but the moments that he's there,
it hit harder than any other moviethat he's been before. Justin Long
(26:38):
for me, I don't know whatit is. And pull you. Hearing
you say that he's underrated, Icompletely agree with because for some reason,
anytime I see Justin Long in amovie, I see Dean from Waiting.
I cannot get that out of myhead. So seeing like young, baby
(27:00):
faced Justin Long in a die Hardmovie, I'm just like, something doesn't
compute up here, like him aslike this elite hacker. That's the guy
you're gonna pick, like over Kevin. If you could put those two side
(27:21):
by side, Justin Long and KevinSmith, who would look like a hacker,
a stereotypical hacker, right, It'llbe Kevin Smith. I don't know.
I mean I can see him becausehe's so like lanky and he's kind
of like they kind of play himdown a little bit. I get your
point. Just too pretty, it'sjust too pretty, And I get like
(27:45):
timoth Timothy Oliphon as well is alsolike too pretty to play that. That's
a beautiful man, very very beautifulman against Schack against Schack. Fine,
but where's our top gun beat scenewith that gun. What I'm saying,
(28:10):
and it really what you said aboutChris Rock really issue. I can't I
think this was around the time hedid to bring the Pain Special. I
think it was around the same time. But that's the kind of comedy I
want in in a in a lethalweapon movie. I want like cheesy stand
up comedy that's gonna be like thelittle Zinger one liners that are going to
(28:32):
be in there, just like it. Even the bit whether they're like the
i'll just call it the racial profilingsegment with him and him and Leo Carr,
He's like, hey, who's thepup. He's just like why,
because I'm back and sitting in theback of a cop car, I'm a
pup. And he just like pullsout his gun and he's like license registration.
(28:52):
You're example. I was trying sodesperately to defend himself. I will
say that I know what you're comingfrom, and I agree the one liners
are good. I don't mind theone liners as much as like as the
bits when he starts getting into likethese, like the Leo rant is good.
The Butter's Ranch just seems like astand up special, which is that's
what takes me out the one liners, don't I like that bit, but
(29:15):
the whole, like the whole isit the cell phone bit he starts doing
about the grandmaself of the yeah, the Afghanistan and everything, like yeah,
that whole thing. Oh, I'mkind of like that I'm watching a stand
up comedian like on stage, notdoing it, but like it's not like
a like the those zingers are normalcutting Like maybe that normal conversation, amped
up conversation for an action comedy, but it felt that felt more in the
(29:37):
world this likes like Okay, MelGibson and uh and dating Lever bought tickets
to Chris Rocks stand up bit nowas we're watching, Like yeah, so,
I mean I I get it though, but yeah, I don't know,
And I think that segment is whatthey put me out of it.
But like the whole dynamic between himand Mata, like the reason he's doing
this is so he can get ingood with my topic cause he's about to
(30:00):
be the father of his day's kidand Maza was gonna find out at one
point. But I think he's gayor just like that whole dynamic. I
thought it was pretty funny. Yeah, I mean it's definitely I was a
day to Dell. It's a littlebit of gay pat and there's a little
dat to Dell, but it iswhat it's of the nineteen ninety eight time.
You know what you're getting into ifyou get into these movies. But
(30:21):
yeah, I get that. Soso the end of the day is so
you're gonna you're sounds like you're leading. Okay, all right, I mean
I can't, but wisplitting hands thatI agree. And that's what it's this
entire movie, like it's the entireall these segments. I can't even feel
like no matter what way you vote, and we're like, I get it.
So I'm sorry. I get yourpoint, Pale, because Chris Rock
(30:41):
it kind of bothered me as well. But I was thinking it's maybe because
now Chris Rock is sort of thislike he's way bigger now than it was
back then, so if you kindof should try to take that baggage out
of it, because he wasn't quitethe big stand up community him as he
was as he's now back then. But I do get your point, but
(31:04):
I but I still think the movieand the tone warranted that character. That's
fine. Again, it's not likeit ruled the movie for me. I
just highly enjoy I even enjoy himin it. It's just one of those
little minor nipigging things for me.All right, let's move on better villain.
Do you not want to start this, MADDI? I think it's our
action, which is fine. I'llyou start a villain two if you want,
(31:25):
though, I'll start the action.Let's the job he started better than
because I feel like he wants toget his love to add to the world
again. You want me to start, I'll start. If you want to,
you go, okay, I'll dobetter action all right now I don't.
It's kind of funny with class actionbecause we try to say objective.
(31:45):
We try best to say objective, but sometimes our dynamic, the three of
us are dynamic, and sometimes evenpj M can kind of twist things a
little bit in our heads even andI feel like Maddie is like absolute love
for Jetly and like his like worshipingout the altar of jet Lee like almost
(32:05):
made me push to go. ButI loved him with the elephant. It
almost pushes me to want to giveall of that love just like like what
because I know Madi, I know, I am, but I couldn't do
that though, but but quite frankly, I couldn't do that if Olifant wasn't
so fucking good and not on anole Fhant. We have to be Olephant
(32:27):
and Maggie Hugh heat you fuckingj WellUh No, PJ. Campbell. Uh.
I even put Bruce Camble on thewheel for you, bastard. But
we have Timothy Oliphant, who islike, as we said, a beautiful
man, Maggie Hugh who's a greatsacking, and you've mentioned before, you
have Sarah Raphael is like the henchmanthere, the acrobatic henchman guy. I
(32:52):
think that Diehard has a better setof villains overall compared to Lethre Weapon four.
I don't know if I voting thatbecause the Weapon four has Jet Lee,
but who else does it have him? You can call uncle Uncle Benny,
you can call Uncle Benny a villain, and he is, but he
almost comes across like a almost hecomes across work a sidekick at a villain.
(33:15):
Most of the time, he's likea punching bag for their their jokes,
they're racist jokes, and well, whoa Kelly fuck you feel the jet
Ruler. I agree, I like, I get it. I love Jetly,
don't you worry? I I loveJetley. It's not like it's more
of like I just want to makesure Timothy Ellaphant gets the love too.
(33:36):
That's all so. But at theend of the day, you got gently
and kind of uncle Benny where heis. But I almost it's so much
hard to put him as a villainlike that. It's more of a sidekick
characters on the villain range. Iget it. Against like Timothy Elephant,
you have Maggie Q who kicks ass, just as who kicks quite a lot
(33:59):
of as. More more so,what way do we go? What way
do we go? I think eitherway wins. I think either way wins.
But I think I got a sidewith Diehard. I think I gotta
side with Diehard, and I almosthate doing it, but I gotta do
it. I think even I'm gonnareally I don't care. He's gonna come
(34:22):
down and find me and hunt medown. Baddy might hunt me down too,
He's like, I love he's I'vegot scared. But all right,
Jarvy, why don't you go nextto so he can let let un cool
down a little bit? Bad.It's this. This is one of those
categories. Now when we were talkingabout before the show why this is so
tough, because this, this categoryis truly tough. On one hand,
(34:45):
you say to yourself in Diard toomuch Opian and MAGGIEQ. They are like
both sides of the same coin, like the same villain that sort of completes
each other. Maggie Q is thebadass that Cakes has to mythol fans,
the brains, the the genius mindbehind behind it all. And what I
(35:05):
really love about to my telepant isthat there is a moment when he's explaining
why he's doing what he's doing, and he actually wants the country to gain
from this. Like they sort ofthey almost went the Hummel a round.
They almost, but then they kindof pulled it back, which I wish
they didn't. Would have been actuallykind of cooler that they should have just
(35:29):
tried to make him the sympathetic villain. I was kind of went in the
in the Simon Kruber route, likethey were doing it for somebody real,
but I'm really still doing this formyself. Like I was like, yeah,
a little bit in a way,but but but he he I think
they still left some of the deemableparts to him, because he did say
(35:49):
that he's doing this so the countrylearns from this, even though he's using
golful methods of doing this. Right, So, Maddie, you're gonna kiss
me after this one. But it'sfucking jet Lee Man as much. And
this is I know, this isnot this is maybe not the objective pick
just to say because it's Jeentle, but he like I mean, first time
(36:12):
he comes on screen, I'm scaredof him. He's dangerous, He's I
always use these words when we're talkingusually about Diard villains. He's menacing,
he controls the room and when hestarts to kick ass. Like I've seen
the one. I've seen some ofhis American movies. This is by far
the fastest that I've ever seen him. And it's been a while when I've
(36:35):
seen him. He's seen his movies, granted, but I mean, come
on, he just athletically and thepresence that he commands. I think he's
He's the best villain in the lethalWeapon franchise. And this is the first
time I'm picking the leath the weaponcategory, the leath the weapon in the
villain category and I love it,so I guess it before Mattie goes and
(37:00):
I just want to throw out thereal quick want watch ty of quality.
We also have forgotten Jonathan Sadowski. His his main hacker guy who's also kind
of a cool character. Actually kindof liked him too. To the Elephant
those a neready guy who walks outwhen they were killing the room the other
hackers like it's time already. Hokay. He has the all the thing.
(37:21):
I tried to get more Nixon inthere, and he's like he seems
like he's very arrogant. He's kindof cool. I mean just that that
he's like a complete standout, justadding more to the things, whereas you
have Jetley and that's it. AndI love Jetley, but he's like I
do agree, Like there are timeswhen when this argument feels right to me.
But Jeff Lee just he is waycooler even when you're combined him at
(37:46):
The Magician and I love Diehard four. I loved him at Magee. I
just that's fine. There's something aboutjee Just if Jetley wins this, I'm
not mad because I love Jetley, and I guess I just I feel like
I haven't given Jetley a lot oflove in this one, and it makes
(38:06):
me feel like makes me feel likeI'm not why for you. That's exactly
what I'm talking about, Like Iknow I don't have to, so I
love Jelley for it. So I'mokay with that. Go ahead and he
tell me where there is no question, debate, nor discussion that it's jently,
absolutely none. I grew up watchingJetly movies on TNT recorded with my
(38:30):
granddad at two o'clock in the morning, like after like the old like black
and white Western movies. They playthe old martial arts movies, tai Chi
Master, just like all that, and I was like obsessed with this man.
I was like, who is thisguy? He's so quick, so
like Kelly says, he's five footthree, he's tiny, like I've seen
the man in person. He istiny, yet he is so powerful and
(38:52):
so dynamic and so fast. Buthe always played the hero. He was
always the good guy. But yetin his first ever Hollywood movie, he's
the bad guy. And I waslike, jerk, he's the bad guy.
This makes this makes no sense, this makes okay, But I'm gonna
watch it, and holy shit isit? Like I always say, this
(39:16):
Like guys like John car The markof a great villain is if a great
villain can be played by a sweet, sweet man, and Jerry is a
very sweet man. But in thishe tries to burn down a house with
two pregnant women inside just so hecan get to a family to turn them
into slaves. Like he doesn't hedoesn't care, Like he just wants to
(39:36):
get the hungs and burn the housedown on the way out with two pregnant
women inside and two two and threecops inside, he doesn't give a fuck,
but he all he wants to dothat for is to get his big
brother out into the world. Sothere is the sympathy factor in there as
well. Not only is In anevil prick, but he just he just
wants to be reunited with his bigbrother man. Not only that, and
(40:00):
I'm gonna get into the action, but this is that this is one of
the coldest fucking things in this entiremovie. He doesn't fire a single shot
MM No One because you don't needto beat the show fucking everyone in the
movie with his bare hands. Hedoesn't even have to. Fucking Oh,
it's just oh, he's just sofucking cool. And I get this is
(40:24):
like the idolizing Jetly, But I'veidolized Jetly since I was a kid,
so I get it. I'm justlike, he's just so fucking cool as
a villain, and I wish hehad done it more in his carec so
fucking good at it. I meanlike, it's just like me and ad
Harris. I totally gether. Iget the argument. Everything I just want
to throw out just to counter becauseI'm gonna do it to me. Often
(40:45):
had some pretty cool moments to asfar as like he gets he gets Lucy
in the in the in the elevatorand like talks like while he knows that
daddy that daddy's watching, and he'slike it's like we'll be right there.
We're gonna come get you. Sofucking cruel, so cruel, and I
love it stuff he does with thatas well. But and he's also on
(41:07):
the sympathetic side too to a degreebecause you realize that he's the guy that
told the us why there's just somethingfucked and they fucked him over. So
it's like I'm doing exactly what Isaid is gonna happen. So I don't
know, God, and no blameme. This is me. You're talking
to you. I love the wholelike bringing a government down from the inside,
using it finances and its infrastructure. That yeah, that speaks to me
(41:30):
too. I'm all about that. But I'm just so in awe of Jetly
this is and we're gonna get intothis with his action, but this is
Gently in his prime. Now,I will give Gently some lover right now,
exactly I have, And I willsay one thing. I definitely want
to spoke. My favorite I thinkmy probably my favorite Gently moment in the
(41:51):
movie had nothing to do with anythingaction wise he did. It was when
they're at the house and he's juston the staircase watching them, Yeah,
just staying there. He's kind ofsmirking at them, like like they're kicking
is like his men's ass. He'sso just kind of like, yeah,
whatever, go ahead. Yeah,he's pretty intimiding. I'm not gonna lie.
So I do love that. Imean, I'm quite happy that you
(42:14):
want. I just want to makesure that gets his love as well.
And I do want to give alittle shout out to Jeff Imada, who
plays the he's the like the captainof the boat at the start. He
was also in Big Trouble in LittleChina and Double Dragon. Gotcha, he's
the guy that gently gently kills hesnaps his neck with his fucking leg on
(42:37):
the rooftop. Yeah, that that'sgood. That's a good choice. That's
a good choice. Uh. Andif we do, if we are going
to bring if Benny does count asa villain, Benny's pretty funny as a
villain too. Like the the rapportwith and is pretty funny, you know,
it's like and he lives in helike just leans into it though too.
(42:58):
So he said, like, Idon't know if it's herous that way,
but have you seen Kim Chan's IMDbpage? There is you have you
seen his thumbnat like his profile picture? No that I did not say.
You gotta look it up. It'sfunny. It's it's just him laughing with
his teeth out and holding two orangescovering his eyes. That's what I mean.
(43:22):
It's just ridiculous. It's so funny. That is awesome. He's been
a bunch of he's been a bunchof cool movies as well. Not gonna
lie. So I like him alot. All right, all right,
so we got there. Let's moveon now to kind of number three,
better story, better story. Well, Maddie wants to do better actions.
(43:43):
So I as we go back toJeremy, then yeah, this one,
this this again. Like doing LethalWeapon and Diehard movies back to back,
you kind of start to really breakdown how formulae those movies are and how
they treat story, how they treataction. So it's so so yeah lead
(44:07):
the weapon for main storyline, likethe villain side of it is human trafficking.
But like on one one hand,on one hand of the story,
you have the villain storyline and thenyou have the personal storyline. Very formulaic
leath the weapons of they usually works. Previously they had I think like guns,
drugs, and then I can't rememberwhat the first one was about,
(44:30):
dug dirty guns, maybe drugs anddirty cops. Oh yeah, something like
that. And so I really likethat the leath of weapon movies have always
kept that really strong side of it, being like the like the personal growth
of the characters. We usually wehave we have the villain of storyline,
(44:52):
and we have the personal growth andthe emotional aspects of the characters. I
love the Leo gets kind of getsinducted into the family in this movie.
I think he had one of themost heartfelt moments in this. I also
love how Marta sort of brings inthe Asian family. They become sort of
(45:14):
his surrogate family, and you canreally like make those two stories stand on
their own, like the action storylineand the personal storyline. When you think
about Diehard four and all the Diehardmovies, actually it's so hard to differentiate
(45:34):
the action from the story. He'sin Diehard the story kind of services the
action throughout right. But what Ilove is what I really love about the
Diehard franchise and Diehard For in particular, is how they have so you Paul
said it at the start of theshow. It kind of strays away from
the usual Diehard formula that it isnot the you know, one man against
(45:59):
the is in a closed space. It's now pretty much like all over town
kind of action romp. But Ido love that die Hard has managed to
stay with the times it has evolved, and he has managed throughout the franchise.
So I say, even story wise, Diehard five has like story wise,
(46:21):
it's a good point to go towards, but the movie just doesn't work.
So what I love about Diehart Foris it managed to bring in the
what's the word not electronic, thevirtual sort of terrorism aspect to this,
and the fact that the villain is, in his opinion, doing righteous work,
(46:42):
and in a way he sort ofis. But the story itself is
very much rooted in action. Sowhen you try to break these stories apart,
I feel like Diehard four as oneunified story works better than Lead the
Weapon before, because Lead the Weaponfour you have the characters on one side
(47:06):
and the story and the other. You can sort of take them apart.
I don't know. I went way, way all over the place. I
get what you're saying. I feellike Diehard is more of a cohesive story
with the story and its action.Okay, I feel like I want to
say that this is a very similarargument we've had throughout the franchise. Diehard
(47:27):
has always been about the action drivingthe story, whereas Leath the Weapon has
been about the story driving the action. And because of that, I mean,
and Diehard does have its own familialbeats here, obviously the estrangement of
Lucy and John McClain and everything else, But at the same time we're talking
about story wise, I go backand forth, because I mean, it
(47:51):
is intricate. Diehard does have anintricacy to it, the whole fire sale
bit. It's all kind of avery interesting idea, whereas again, Leather
the Weapon FOS definitely is a littlemore vague, I guess. I mean,
it's obviously gentle wants to get hisfamily or his brother anything else back,
but kind of like more of avague like thing like. But at
the same time is what's more important. We're saying story doesn't necessarily just mean
(48:15):
plot, because I think Diehard livedfor your Diehard's plot is probably better.
But I can't deny that Leth theWeapon for his story, with the character
development, with the way that withthe way that we've grown from where Riggs
was in the first of the Weaponto where he is in the final Leather
(48:35):
the Weapon or not the final asof now, the fourth one, most
recent one, I should say,and how he's grown from having a dead
wife to a girlfriend gets killed,to Renee Russo to now he's gonna marry
Renee Russo. You have Leo Getzwho has basically gone from this character that
they really kind of hated him too, the kind of just kind of tolerated
them. Three they toiled a littlebit more. And four he flips me.
(49:00):
It's like a family member. Bythe end, there's a and even
Murta has some development here and there. I mean, he's more consistent than
Riggs has been, but he's definitelya little older. He's definitely welcomed and
gives it into the house like Rigsinto the house. He's definitely welcoming.
At the end, he's welcoming.Leo gets in to a degree, even
though he's still kind of liked beathim up a little bit verbally. I
(49:22):
can't deny that. Whereas John McLean, I feel like we get his thing
with his wife is great. They'regreat in the first one. They're not
great if they're end up happy inthe first one, they end up happy
to their second one. Also inthe third one they're not so happy again.
It seems like it's kind of justlike it's in pieces, and not
that that's a bad thing. Imean, he does Dieheard, doesn't need
(49:43):
to doesn't need to go into itmore. Diehard is more about the popcorn
action. But that's why. That'swhy if you're gonna say a popcorn action
film versus an action film with somereally decent development, here and there I
gotta give the I gotta give theedge lead the weapon for on this one.
So that that was exactly my point, like Weapon has more character development,
right, but Diehard, for Ithink it's a plot versus story,
(50:05):
right. Agree. I think wekind of approached the topic differently, But
I I can't argue with your point, Maddie. You're gonna split us up
again this point, Jarvin. Thiswas because, as I said, the
story of or the plot of Diehardspeaks to me on a very story pro
(50:28):
level, like the idea of bringinga government a super power to its knees
from the inside, just to belike, look, I told you so
that give me that all over. But I've seen that done a few times,
Like that's been done a few timesnow, has it been done to
(50:49):
the level? Yeah? Absolutely,it was definitely. That was one of
the factors I took into It waslike, this was one of the first
movies to really employ that kind ofcyber terrors teeth. And you have a
guy like you, wodn't expect aguy like Timothy Olafhan to be like a
cyber terrorist. You would assume hewould be like out there on the on
(51:12):
the street or whatever you know actuallyadds like a military or political figure.
You wouldn't assume that he's like justthis guy in a suit behind the scenes,
you know, right, the puppetmaster of it all. So I
thought that was really innovative, whichI've often critiqued die Hard is like not
having much in terms of innovation pastthe first one. But if this is
(51:37):
how lethal, if this is howlethal weapon is going to end, if
we never get lethal finale, whichthere's a possibility we don't, right possibility,
I think this is a pretty damngood closing. Riggs, you know,
going as you said, like Riggsgoing from where he was to now
he's married again, he's a father. Uh, he's too old for this
(52:01):
ship. Mm hmm. That thatlittle that scene in the in the locker
room between him and Murder where he'sjust like, I don't I don't know
if I've got anymore, Like I'vehad that conversation, right, so it's
just like, I do, Iget it, We're getting too old for
(52:22):
this ship. So it's amazing howthey turn that in from a punchline in
the first one, like it's reallykind of become it becomes so present in
this one at this point and thefirst one, it was kind of a
joke when Riggs tosses like hip tossesGlover over the side and throws them down
to the ground, like, oh, too old for this ship. By
this time, it's like really likeimpacted their lives to a point where they
(52:45):
really are. I agree, thatmakes it kind of a more interesting thing
for me, But I'm sorry.I go ahead, man, you continue,
Like like the bit where he's gettinglit up by that young cop in
the boxing ring, I know howthat feels. That's a very real thing
to like, sit down off thedude, I ain't got anymore. I'm
too old for this ship. Yeah, And like then, but then you
(53:07):
have the moment where like him andMurta are about to go face Jety again
and they're on the they're on thelittle dock bit and they're just like this,
this man, this dude's too good, Like let's just let him go,
Let's let someone find him when theycome up. Fuck it, let's
(53:27):
go do it. This is like, no matter what, they're still going
to go do it. They're stillRigs and Murta from the first movie.
They're just a little bit older anda little bit more developed. So for
me, this is it's leath theweap okay I, Murti. Murti is
the most ripped in the we before, like he keeps talking how old he
is. Dude is shred The villainis under siege too. Was some sort
(53:53):
of smilt the elephant's character Live foryour diard, That's actually true. Eric
Pagosian, he was the computer hackeron the train and he was a he
designed the satellite weapon and then hewas tossed out for being crazy whatever.
And I know has been one onone. I don't know if you know
this or not, but you're bringingup a Steven Sagal movie in front of
Maddy. That's that's you might wantto tread lately. And Guys Underseas SHO
(54:21):
is not a very good movie.Unfortunately, that was not very good access.
So let's Jared little versus de nextWhy why? I just want me
to rant for an in for nowfifteen. That would be entertaining, That
would be entertaining. I watch it. Okay, we are on better action,
Maddie. You asked for it.You're gonna get it. Maddie.
(54:42):
Go ahead, start love. I'mgonna start love. Die Hard four has
some of the most in Shane bonebast action you can get throwing a market
car into a helicopter mid flight witha crazy French kickball with a rocket launcher.
That's pretty damn Narley. No Ido we get the massive bomb bast
(55:06):
action that we know when we lovefrom me for weapon, we get jet
motherfuckingly in his damn Prime first example, when they're all fighting in the house
pull you brought it up, He'sjust standing there, arms crossed, big
shitting grin on his face, justlooking down like that could be the ship
out of every single one of youwithout even breaking a sweat. And he
(55:28):
goes on to do exactly that,Like there's a bit, Oh my god,
this I got. I had afucking hard on for this moment.
He does what's called a cartwheel kick, which is really fucking hard to do,
and he does it picks up thegun like mid cartwell kick where he
puts his hand on the ground, picks up the gun, comes back up
and put and points it at RigsAnd I was just like, oh my
(55:52):
god, Like I went from sixto midnight that movie I was. It
was just so slick and so damngood, and like when he crushes the
it's the dad that hung Dad.I can't remember father, Yeah, yeah,
I can't remember his first name forthe life of me. But he
crushes it his wind pipe with hisfinger and his thumb. Like. Now,
(56:16):
while that's that's actually impossible to dobecause to crush someone's wind pipe you
need like thirty five to forty poundsof pressure for like seven to ten seconds.
You can't do that with just yourfinger in your thumb, right and
growth rick. But it like it'sfucking cold when he does it, and
he just like fucking crushes his windpipe just like that, so damn good.
(56:38):
And it had all the Jetly signaturemoves, and it had the scorpion
kick behind the back. It waslike a jet these greatest hits, like
he had the slap to the elbow. I was like, I've seen all
this before, but now with abigger budget and doing it to looking Rigs
and Martar and a leaf of weaponmovie. You guys, go ahead.
I've made my case fair enough.I just wanted to hit the chat here
(57:01):
William Merrill saying let over versus Segal. Does Jarvey want viewers? It's a
good point. It's probably get themfrom my rant and realism again. Did
Jet Lee's Black Masks come out afterLeath Weapon four? No, it actually
came out before, but it wasdefinitely. But Leath the Weapon was his
first US production, you know,I say his production like Black Mass was
(57:23):
still a Hong Kong production. Ibelieve, yeah, it was because it
when his first one was leaf AWeapon four and then it was ro I
Must Die, right. I mean, I think Black Mass did get a
release in the US, but itwas definitely. I don't know. Maybe
I wonder if I was released inthe US after. That's possible, like
it was made before, but ithave been released after it kind of capitalizing
on as popular in Leath Weapon four. Potentially. I'm not sure on that
(57:45):
though, But either way, okay, okay, I know what you're saying
in that action. For me,it's it's a tough This is the one
I initially had as my most definitivelybeing diehard fo if only because I mean,
I love Lee again, I loveJet Lee, but like the I
I'm a big fan of the overthe top action again. The car and
(58:07):
the helicopter was fun. The explosionin the the electric or the electric grid
stations power plane thing and the carlike running the car mcccu's ass, so
to speak, down the elevator shaftsand there down to the shafts and everything
else. I loved all that bit. I love the the the battle in
(58:30):
the in the in the final battleof the airport hanger, when produced capacalated
shoots himself to shoot the bad guy. But it's weird to see what it's
still bad ass. I can't dedie that. The chase with the they
had the air the airplane, thejet fighter, like tracking down the rig
that John McLane is driving. There'sa whole lot of cool fucking action in
(58:52):
Diehard because of that. It's adifferent kind of action. I mean,
Jet Lee's fucking sweet, though it'shis action. I totally agree with you,
who's just the one man's action.I think I would give it to
jet Lee. But I have ahard time saying that Diehard Ford didn't have
better overall action as far as explosionsgo and everything else and the big set
(59:15):
pieces and things like that. Again, that's when that's what I heard is
known for it. I heard supposedto have that. Comparatively, the weapon.
The weapon is more storyline based,so I will with no disrespect to
jet Lee, who is my favoriteaction person of the of the two of
them. The overall it's again,it's like more that quality of quantity or
quantity of quality kind of thing.I do like the action set pieces and
(59:36):
dire are better. Jarvey, whodo you give us? What do you
give us? Yeah? Right rightoff my notes that I have here,
I'm totally echoing with what you said. I think I think jet Lee is
this one man army and lead theweapon for every scene that is in it's
awesome. Whenever they're fighting, it'sawesome. The final fight, I gotta
(59:57):
give praise to the final fight becauseI think it works on It works so
great on a lot of levels. And one of them, you said,
like they know that they're outmatched andthey still go in. They pretty much
know that they're going to lose thisfight. So jet Lee he's this like,
as you said, how tall ishe five three? So he's he's
(01:00:19):
smaller than Martin Riggs, but he'sso damned capable. But there are moments
in the final fight where Riggs andMerta do manage to use their weight to
their advantage, and I really loveit. It wasn't just Jete flaring all
over the place, just kicking them, doing the Yoda shit, just going
here and there, like Riggs asa freaking awesome moment when he just head
(01:00:44):
butts Jentlee three times in a row, just slow old man, m hm
bam, going at it. Andthere's times when they tackle jet Lee and
they bring him down, but he'sstill so damn good. He still manages
to get out of it. ButI appreciated the moment where his size did
matter in that fight. Yeah, and at the and at the end of
(01:01:06):
sorry madam, you can interject no, no, no, just agree with
you. It really is well choreographed. I will it is a very well
quarto got final fight between them, given it gives both strengths of Jently and
mel Gibson's fighting, and Dani Gloveris there too, I'll be honest,
but it's really basically mel Gibson Clubis good, but it's really more about
(01:01:29):
mel Gibson is because that's the personalside, because Gips, it's the whole
storyline thing where mel Gibson was notlosing it against the boxer earlier on when
he was sparring Andy faking injury it'sthis about his redemption. Yeah, he
gets dat de Clover to help him. Because even because Gentley would kick his
ass on on one pretty much,I think I just love that they dropped
the the mel Gibson those type ship. Yeah, because that's the only way
(01:01:52):
you beat a guy like That's theway you that's the only way you be
a guy like Jetley is you gottamake it ugly. You're gonna take a
few, but you go to getin cause you gotta make it ugly.
You got ahead bottom, just makeit fucking vicious. That's what they did,
I will say, going into it. I did like that again,
You're you're right with the moment therethey have that where they could about to
walk away. I love that.I mean, this goal almost goes the
(01:02:14):
favorite lines or by whatever. Ido love the fact he twars turned around
and goes I want to know howhe did that. I need to know
how he did that. Like theway he's like. They don't just turn
around and go, Okay, we'regonna do it. It's the jokey way
they go into it that makes iteven more leave the weaponing. But yeah,
I'm sorry, sorry Son, you'regonna end up I'm waiting. I
(01:02:36):
had to get that in because Iknow Jovi's but is about to come.
The body is lurking. But beforebefore we lurk the button, they skewer
Jefe and he's still not defeated. They go underwater, he's still not defeated.
He finally shoots je Lee like threeor four times, and he finally
(01:02:58):
kicks the bucket under water while skewerdWhat the fuck, but the butt is
finally here. I think Diehard foras an overall action movie. It has
big, awesome set bases. Itslike cool explosions, that killing the helicopter
with the car what I love. What I really didn't like about Diehard three
(01:03:21):
was that there were like it's alwayslike over the top action, but there
there's levels to over the top action, Like when when John McLay shot out
of the freaking what was it likethe sewer and it just fell to freaking
on concrete or whatever it was, nothing happened to him. There are like
there there's one moment in Diehard forwhen he slides down the freaking highway that's
(01:03:46):
kind that's kind of the unbelievable part. But even though like killing the helicopter
with the car funnily enough, isnot too unbelievable, Like there are there
are ways how I could see ithappen right, like it's it's still it's
it's still mission impossible type action, right, but I still there are like
(01:04:09):
levels to levels of believability about it. And also I freaking love the shootout
at the apartment. First time thatmcclaim and Matt get hit. That is
that is like such a simple scene, but that freaking apartment just gets i
mean shredded with board and it's it'sreally easy to kind of fuck those scenes
(01:04:29):
up. But call back to Underworld. I think it's Lenn Wiseman who directed
If We or Die Hard you cando like he knows his ways around gunfights,
Yes, sir, for sure, really quick Clay w just a Black
Master made in ninety six released inthe US and ninety nine Little Up and
Ford. Thank you Kelly for conferringthat for us, go alhad drive you
(01:04:53):
continue. No, Actually, Iknow, I know my arguments have been
going way over over time. Ilove the Maggie que fight and I and
I love how the action drives thestory all the way. So I think
there are like the fist bumps arebetter maybe in Lead the Weapon for but
overall, again that's a cohesive actionmovie. There are more moments, better
(01:05:16):
moments overall, and die Hard forwhat makes sense. Let's be honest,
because that die harder than to winanything in this in the thing, because
again we said Diehard is the actionmovie. Lead the Weapon is movie,
so we actually direct in a way, in a way. But yeah,
card helic opage only a bit lessbelievable than a card is paced. If
(01:05:36):
not, I think it's more believablethan that, Brandon Hannah, he can
tell us that's true. We shouldget right ahead on the show, the
science, science behind us, thescience fine action movies. All right,
we are on our final category. Now we are on better one liners.
We can just start throwing out there, better lines, better better dialogue.
(01:05:58):
I'll start with one and we'll justkeep riffing from there. That started with
one movie and then go to theother movie. Otherwise we're going, all
right, I'll start to live foryour Diehard than because one of the ones
I want to mention that I reallyreally like, I think it's gonna ben
underrated one and I'll get there. But it's Luci McClain when Thomas Gabriel starts
like uh, he starts talking toJohn McLean about blah blah blah blah,
(01:06:19):
getting and she's like, my dad, what, yes, yes, baby,
there's only five left now, Andyou're like, yeah, that's McClain,
that's mcclaan right there. I lovethat. I think Timothy Oliphant has
h He has some of the bestlines in this. And I love the
(01:06:42):
moment when they're when one of thehenchmen is rough enough Lucy. I don't
love the moment that they're rough, but he hits her and then the henchman
sort of goes like he hurt hishand, and Gabriel goes, are you
okay? Are are you gonna beall right? After he HiT's a woman?
(01:07:03):
Am I bleeding? Are you gonnabe alright? Like the way only
too much? The olid fan?Can you use that much sarcasm and freaking
sell the line? And it's perfect, good, good one. Also,
I'll throw out that right away becauseI just came to mind my probably favorite,
my favorite line the whole day.Don't do it, don't do it,
(01:07:24):
don't do it? Why did youbring a cop to my command center?
Command Center? It's a basement.It's a command center. That's such
a p l the R, Ilaughed rebendously. I look forward what I
will rewind that scene. It's justa look on Kevin Smith's face too.
He's just like a command center.Go ahead, sy, I thought I
(01:07:47):
was thinking that. I was like, he's gonna go for a pool line.
I was sorry, fucking glad youwent with dollar because mine is you
just kid a helicopter with a car. I ran out of bullets. That
is the trailer line from the movie. That was in the trailer. McLean
McLain actually has a pretty good monologuein this when he gives the sort of
(01:08:10):
he gives the hero qualified speech abouthimself, like when he talks about being
a hero, like what do youget from it? Nothing? You get
shot at, you get pat onthe back, blah blah blah. Boy,
you get divorced, your wife can'tremember your last name, your kids
don't want to talk to you.You get to eat a lot of meals
by yourself. Trust me, kid, nobody wants to be that guy.
Yeah, I mean that was thatwas a good, like hard hitting moment
(01:08:34):
right there. I agree, Iagree, you know, it was a
great call. That on went thatI fucking can't believe I never got until
this viewing. I totally I don'tknow. I don't know how I pass
it by. You haven't come onto McLean special agent Johnson, I'll take
this it in aid. Johnson lovedthat moment and I missed it so quick.
(01:09:00):
I was like, that was acool john does a great callback.
I love that. That's a goodone. So I love the one where
he he first ran out of thecar and he and Matt's like, did
you just see that? Jones islike, see it, I did it?
I did it. Yeah. Ithink Lucy and Matt have another grade
(01:09:25):
sort of back and forth is whenLucy goes to my like, listen,
would you just take him in itand deep deep for a bigger set of
balls because you're gonna need it beforewe're going to get through this, and
Matt just goes, wow, Iknow that sound. It's weird to hear
that from someone with hair. Thatwas good. Last one I'll do.
Specifically, there's another Warlock qute Ilike to exchange when he's in the big
(01:09:48):
rig truck and he's like, ohFreddy, Freddy picked up. He's like,
nobody here by that nobody here bythat name, sorry Hack shirk Off,
Warlock. You do that's like, are you serious you'll be intentionally open
comments ahead of the FBI Cyber Division. I don't think so. Pretty goddamn
they have my daughter pause, Icould do that. Hold on. I
(01:10:09):
was like ahar Lock. That showedthat he's like actually a good person.
Yeah, I love those genuinely goodperson It's the Star Wars at the Honda
and knocka moment when he has thosemoments of pure hearted gold in there even
though I love it, so yougot you got Hondo in there on the
watch twenty three they continue anymore fromthe for Your dieheard. I think we
(01:10:34):
got the best ones. I thinkthe best. There's one bad one.
There's there's one like a bad one, and it's the one where he doesn't
get to say motherfucker. He doesn'tunderrated version, which is one I watched.
Okay, oh really there's un version. There's the right version does get
(01:10:55):
It's not it's not much different, honestly, but he does. He does
get the him. That's what I'llleave it with. One last Warlock lines.
I do love Kevin Smith. Thisis one of my favorite parts of
the movie. He plays the roleperfectly. Thomas Gabriel is the guy who
shut down Nord with a laptop justto prove a point. You think I'm
scared of you, I'm sure qualifierqualifier that you're real fan of the fat
(01:11:19):
Huh, yeah, you're a bigI'm over Star Wars guy. Okay,
all right, all right, let'smove on to him the weapon for quotes.
Mm hm, I know we allwant to talk about the one monologue.
Who's who can deliver the monologue?Who wants to do it? Are
we just we're not going to touchit because it's too good. I don't
(01:11:40):
I think we should touch it.I don't have to do It's too long
and we won't give it just asthe Leo gets froggy monologue, It's perfect.
It's about a fucking frog and yetto hear you are making three grown
men cry. It's about a fuckingfrog, my best friend in the world,
and they killed him. They killedhim. I love how Riggs follows
(01:12:00):
it up too. We're terrible.Yes, God, you know better friends
than you're just different? Oh?I love that. You gotta You've sure
pick the strange angel baby, Butthe message and like that's so oh,
that's so perfect there. I thinkthe line where he says we're exists,
(01:12:23):
but we're horrible to you, thatis actually the sort of the crux of
that like conversation. Yeah, that'ssuch a realization moment, right turning point
because he realiz his family terrible toyou. It breaks my heart just talking
about it. Now. Well thenyou know it's followed up, but they
don't have the exact lamb of thatmoment in the hospital where you know they
(01:12:45):
do the whole thing. Finally,Rene Ruster gets pushed into the delivery room
and you see he's left that Riggsgoes in and they keep Leo gets out.
He kind of STAPs and head downfor a second, but then Riggs
comes right back, stay here, you gotta be the kid and everything else.
I kind of fout like this, like all right, it's a family.
So that's good. But there's myhard joints with the quips believe the
(01:13:08):
weapon hadst had a feel. Thereis a perfect moment between Leo Martin Riggs
on the boat. I think Ithink Leo Gaeds has one of the one
of the best rants on there iswhen he goes like he's trying to find
something kind of remember what it was, Leo was, Okay, you say
it aft right, aft aft. That's a fucking word in the back of
(01:13:33):
the cabin on the right side Theo. Well, why didn't you say that
in the first place, Roger. Then it just goes I love these people.
Put them around boats and water, and all of a sudden everything becomes
fucking nautical. That's so true.I mean, so my one of my
(01:13:53):
favorite ones is actually another moment betweenthe three. I mean, it's actually
kind of more between Riggs and Leah, but it's when they're in the in
the police station and he picks upthe phone and he's on the phone and
he's just like, oh, privateinvestigator, huh. And he's just like,
I wonder if you'd be willing toinvegate my privates. It's just like,
(01:14:13):
that's so childish but so fucking great. And also the buzz when he
has when he has the henchmen inthe back of the on the back of
the car, he's like, youhave the right to remain silence and shut
the fuck up. I'd like thattoo, uh good one like the Uncle
Benny one, I'm sleeping with mywife's two sisters. You're lucky. It's
(01:14:35):
out of a bitch. Good forUncle Benny. Not as good when my
wife finds out and they all laugh. Right there. I'm so glad you
picked that line because I was afraidthe other one. No, no,
no, no, I'm not gonnasay that the other one. I do
want to mention that, which mademe laugh a lot more this time.
I don't know why this one mademe laugh. It's like a stupid lie,
but it's still made me laugh. You ever heard of any clark?
(01:14:58):
Yes, she's right, so cheesysex novel. Not blinking her. No,
I'm not blanking her. Trick isemity clerk. You are blinking.
I am biking. Yeah, Iam blinking. There's the other one as
well. I've just remembered. It'slike pigeons ate his eyeballs. Cool cool
cool cool pot groucho Chico and fucker. All right, that's good. I
(01:15:26):
think Laurna has has a great linein there is when when they're talking when
he when she's talking to Riggs aboutmarriage, and it just goes they haven't
like we have we could get married. When I have to get married,
Lorna just goes, I'll take youanyway I can get you. We don't
need to get married. That waslike, that's freaking Riggs has found love.
It's mutual, it's true, it'sreal lovely. I'll take you anyway
(01:15:48):
I can. Who doesn't want tohear that from a one? Oh,
there's one that's a really good callback. Actually, from at the end of
the film to the start of thefilm, it's saying, will me because
of the star win there behind thecar and there it Riggs like, will
me, will me? Like that'sthe thing to be, like look cool
(01:16:10):
me, like go out to me, like show me where you are anyway.
He when he's like just about he'slike looking in the water for him
and then he's just like, screwit, I'm going in and takes off
the jacket and then dives in offthe rigs and saves his life. And
it's just that, it's just thatthat that will me. He can repeat
it. That's like that thing,Yeah, what took you so long?
(01:16:31):
That? And I'll give you oneword Lorna one, which which is funny
because Lorna is not as funny thistime around as she was during the twep
and three, because wasn't that giventake but she had got a food line,
but she also had the one atthe end there, I am not
ready to have this baby. Allright, fine, will be in if
you want. My legs are stayingclosed, she started, has one where
(01:16:56):
she said, you never come betweena need and a pregnant lady too.
It's good, all right. Whichway are you guys? Which where are
you guys going about? To say? You go with the weapon man?
Okay Man's weapon? All right,Jarvy, I think I think Leath the
Weapon has It has the funny quips, It has the badass quips, and
it has the deep quips like thelines to quotes. Diehard four has the
(01:17:19):
badass ones. Yeah, the weapon. I think Live for Your Diehard has
overall the funnier ones. But they'refunnier because they're zingers usually and they're humorous
and they work. But Leath theWeapon has a little bit of wake behind
them more. Yeah, and that'swhat that's what has I mean, not
all of them obviously that the Bettingtwo wives lives not not very depth,
(01:17:42):
but there's a lot more depth intheir character rules. So I think I
gotta go to Leath the Weapon fouras well. So there we are folks.
We have hit the end of theroad. We are done, and
we reading nothing on the final category. It was category rough, So in
a it's just kind of funny,a little less close than I thought it
(01:18:05):
was a little more before you announceit. It's two to one for die
Hard at the moment, and thisis the final battle of the franchise.
So what can happen here is Leaththe Weapon could tie it up and we
have no tiebreaker, or die Hardwill take this franchise matchup and the winner
(01:18:28):
by a score of ten to five, oh is Lead the Weapon four Wow,
Lethal Weapon, So it's a tie. I mean, that's kind of
fair, though it is. It'sproetic as well, because it's like we
(01:18:51):
love franchises. Although some would arguethe fact that a good day of Diehard
exists means to Lead the Weapon wins, but that is a valued argument,
you know, Like I guess we'llfind out when if Lethal finale comes out,
We'll see if that argument still holdsaway at that point. But I
agree, man, I'm actually happyit's the time because both franchises have a
(01:19:13):
lot to offer, and I loveboth franchises. It's kind of funny how
we began this this as a battleof the best Christmas movies, and they
seem like they're so like there aretop notch eighties nineties action movies, even
though I know, I know,Live for Her Die Harbor's much later two
thousand and seven, but it seemslike they be easy matchups. But there
(01:19:35):
really are such different franchises. Theyreally are like different layers of action to
them. So it was an interestingIt was an interesting battle. It's it
is also like doing them back toback to back. It's I had moments
when I was, Okay, I'mkind of getting tired of doing this again
because they're so similar. But Ithink what it gave me and and I
(01:19:57):
hopefully the viewers and you guys aswell, is you really start to understand
the formulas of either of these franchisesor both these franchises. You really understand
how they're sort of structured and whatmakes them great and how they develop or
in some cases they don't develop. They just trying to perfect perfect where we
love to a degree, But yeah, I love that is actually an independence
(01:20:24):
movie? Do they always Sunny five? Diod five would just take the biggest
fucking ass kicking. Yeah, Iagree, what is what is this the
weapon you always Always Sunny in Philadelphiashow. Yeah, but they actually they
(01:20:44):
put out a leather Weapon five inthe show like it was part of they
did this whole because there's like ado the It's like the always Sunny version
of Leather the Weapon five, whichis pretty funny. I will you know
if I I'll tell you what ifif, because I'm a completist. If
the finale comes out, even ifyou guys don't want to do it,
I'll do it on my own finale. It is a good day to die
(01:21:05):
Hard because I have to be acomplete ast that way. It's my own,
my own thing. But even evenif The Weapon five is the best
movie in the franchise, you wouldput it up against die Hard fire.
I have to got to complete thesaga at this point if it happens,
all right, all right, Wellthat's it for this week. Guys.
(01:21:29):
We should announce next week because Jarveywas very excited about next week. So
you know, I'm gonna let youannounce next week. Sorry, I had
a bit of a leg. I'mgonna let you. I'm gonna let you
announce the next week's battle it becauseso yeah, this is this is actually
a this is one match up thatI stole from the Empire podcast. So
(01:21:54):
they had two guests on and hewas Christian bo and Huge Check the Prestige
Reunion, and I thought about it. There could be a very cool discussion
about putting these two actors against oneanother. So we haven't been doing too
much ch acter versus actor or directorversus director. We've been doing a movie
(01:22:15):
versus movie for a while now,and it is tougher. It is way
tougher to do person versus person. But I think we can do it,
and I think we owe the audienceto mix it up with it. I
do, we haven't. I agree. It's been a long time and it
kind of got into a little Idon't want to say rut because I've enjoyed
doing it, but it's been like, O, hey, we watched two
movies and we compare contrast. There'ssomething different for us, and we have
(01:22:36):
done it previously, had some fundoing it previously. So I'm looking forward
to looking and seeing what our categoriesare going to be. Looking through the
different directions. Maybe I'll watch afew, maybe I'll catch up on some
that I haven't seen from Christian Baleand from Hugh Jackman. Either way,
intense actors, both of them great, great, wonderful roles in Nolan movies
(01:22:56):
and in Villain New movies and alot of other movies. So I can't
wait to discuss these at this point. So I know exactly it's Wolverine versus
Badman. M hmm. I certainsomeone has been trying to get me to
watch the Greatest Showman for a while, So there you go. I don't
I don't think that's a movie foryou, Maddie. I'll be honest,
(01:23:19):
I don't either. I don't thinkit's for you. I don't know about
it. I kind of enjoyed somePosita Hamilton. So I was the Greatest
Showman stage musical, Disney musical. It's more of a Disney musical. P
(01:23:40):
on the syrup, all right,I'll give it a go. But he's
good in it. He's good,is actual? Yeah, I think you
can. I think that quite well. And oh yeah one as well?
He sings, is right, you'reright? Four six so warm yeah,
Kelly Chat of course, of course. All right, guys, thank you
(01:24:08):
so much for sticking around with us. I hope you enjoyed the show.
Hope you enjoyed the series. We'removing on next week, but we're hopefully
not moving on from us. Comejoin us at pl and D Projects,
Patreon, Patreon, dot com, slash pld projects with such luminaries as Allison
Salomony and Brandon Buckingham or any Parker, Jeff Alterman, John Lastrina and part
of Sessa Jason great crew. Wehave a great Facebook chat going on very
much always highly debating one top oranother, and they also get to help
(01:24:32):
choose two mediacre weight dues on filmcategories we have Kelly is coming up soon
after the Lead the Weapon franchise, although I hate to tell you, Kelly,
you might get pushed back a littlefurther because we actually have an announcement
of something we're going to do inthe Leath of Weapon franchise, which we
haven't done yet. Two media forWaight Dudes on Film, but what that
is you got to wait and see. Uh. This week's two media for
(01:24:53):
Way Dudes on Lead the Weapon, which comes out on Thursday, of course,
and they also do Crown Jewels theshow. On the show every week
I go through a song from Queen. This week is in the Lap of
the Gods, from your Heart Attackalbum that will drop on Friday. A
lot of cool stuff there. Andalso, of course Maddi Gunner and I
have done a great job at doingHoly Snokes Start Wars podcast. I was
(01:25:17):
trying to feel at a better wayto make it bigger. But I've really
enjoyed talking Star Wars with Maddie again. It's been a long it's been a
long time coming, with bad Batchcoming, with Mandalorian coming, it's such
a fun time and we are havinga great time doing it. So that's
gonna be another episode on Wednesday.Yes, guys, can I can I
be on when Mandalorian comes out?Maybe? Yeah, we'll see, we'll
(01:25:40):
see. I don't know, we'llfigure that out. I don't know.
You we'll say you gotta watch thecartoons in order to get to the Mandalorian.
I am watching the cartoons and I'msort of enjoying them. There's a
