Around Dodge City and in the territory on West. There
is just one way to handle the killers and the spoilers.
And that's where the US Marshal and The Smell of
Gun Smoke go, starring William Conrad. The story of the

(00:43):
violence that moved west with young America and the story
of a man who moved with it. I'm that man,
Matt Dillon, United States Marshall, the first man they look
for and the less they want to meet. It's a
chancy job, and it makes a man watchful and a
little lonely. When the Civil War began in eighteen sixty one,

(01:15):
there was no special services and the Chaplain's Corps was
in its infancy. The service man, sick or well in
the field or in the hospital was left to his
own devices during his free time. Then the y m
c a's United States Christian Commission was organized with the
approval and support of President Lincoln. Some five thousand volunteers,

(01:35):
men and women gave spiritual, moral, and medical relief to
soldiers and sailors of both sides, as well as prisoners
of war. Six million dollars were raised to furnish supplies
and do the work. They saved the lives of hundreds
of fighting men and gave themselves untiringly to day. Along
with the Civil Wars one hundredth Observance, the Armed Services

(01:57):
Department of the y m c A is observing its
sent Through the years, it has continued to serve our
armed forces in.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
This country and overseas.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
We salute the ymc A on the one hundredth anniversary
of this work and for its services to young people
of all races and creeds around the world.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
I don't think I like Dodge too much as kind.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
It ain't a bad town. Melly sides will only be
here long enough to get the old wagon soul.

a job. I sell a wagon cheap.

Falling boy spoke my team and they run off.

Speaker 4 (09:55):
The gun back.

Speaker 1 (09:57):

Speaker 2 (10:14):
There you are, Matt.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
Thanks Killy.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
You know that's a better beer than we've been getting later.

Speaker 1 (10:23):

charging him for it. Uh the second drop kind of flat,
isn't that?

Speaker 2 (10:34):
You're a hard man?

Speaker 1 (10:36):
Mat?

Speaker 2 (10:37):
Hey?

Speaker 10 (10:37):

Speaker 2 (10:38):
How's Andy Coole getting along in his job to sell him?

Speaker 1 (10:42):
I don't know, Kiddy. I saw any today. He was
wearing a gun. Well, doesn't exactly make him stand out
around here, does it. And that's the first time I've
seen him wear one since he arrived in town. Uh huh.
And I asked him about it. He told me some
man was visiting his wife yesterday. She wouldn't tell him

(11:04):
who it was. I tried to talk to him, but
it didn't do any good.

Speaker 2 (11:08):
Ye never does in a case like that.

Speaker 3 (11:11):
Evening man, Hitty, No, doctor, I said, Oh, I'm out
a bear.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
Oh no, I'd like that, Sam. Bring down a pair,
will you?

Speaker 6 (11:22):
Yes, Miss Jddy.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
You two looked way globe something road they were just
talking about. Andy called Andy Cole.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
I met his wife today.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
There's a girl.

Speaker 3 (11:30):
Oh, well'd you meet her in town?

Speaker 8 (11:32):
No?

Speaker 1 (11:33):
I was driving by their shack by the river, is
so I stopped and said, lo?

Speaker 2 (11:37):
So the other one right?

Speaker 7 (11:40):
Nothing?

Speaker 2 (11:41):
Well, what were you saying about?

Speaker 12 (11:43):
Y well, not worried about him.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
And he's wearing a gun today for the first time
or it for he suspects somebody's been visiting his wife.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
If maybe he's after me, then it isn't a joke.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
Doctor, Well, no, I guess it is. But he's a
good boy, but he's awful hot at it. You know,
this morning I made Milly co a promise, but I
think maybe I should break it. What are you talking about?
She gave me a note to deliver, asked me not
to tell anything about it.

Speaker 4 (12:17):
It was for Ed Fallon, Fallon, but you give it
to him?

Speaker 1 (12:20):
Yeah, just now on the ken she's standing right down
there at the end of the bar. Oh yeah, you
know what was in the note? No, she didn't say,
just that it had something to do with business. That's
what she told you. Yeah, well, yuh, you think it
was something more. I don't know, doc, but if Miller

(12:41):
wrote a note to Fallen, could be he's the one. Yeah,
I'll be packing fallon.

Speaker 6 (12:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (12:56):
Uh oh, Marshall, on your mind. I want to talk
to you about Milly Cole. What have you been seeing her?
What business are yours? Would I do more? I try
to stop a killing fella, and I thought you might

(13:16):
wanna help.

Speaker 4 (13:18):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (13:19):
I believe in law in order. You know that, and
keep away from Midley Cole. Now, look, Mark Hendy's wearing
a gun, fella, and you saw him.

Speaker 6 (13:28):
If you have been.

Speaker 1 (13:29):
Seeing his wife and he finds out, he'll kidd you.
You seem to know a lot about this mortial, not
to know that you've got a note from her. Anything
that note had to do with business, whatever it was.
I'm just wanting you to stay away from her.

Speaker 4 (13:49):
See.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
Well, what'd you find out?

Speaker 5 (13:55):
Mate?

Speaker 1 (13:56):
I can't pin him down.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
You tell him about the note? Well, you'd never own
up to it anyway.

Speaker 1 (14:03):
And I got to make sure before Andy fans.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
Uh, why are you going to do that?

Speaker 1 (14:07):
Go out tomorrow and talk to Meleko face her with it.
Hope she tells the truth. I learned to jump double

(14:32):
dutch today.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
It's fun.

Speaker 1 (14:34):
What susan is double dutch?

Speaker 2 (14:36):
That's jumping with two ropes at a time.

Speaker 1 (14:39):
Anyone knows that, thank you.

Speaker 8 (14:43):
Susan is one of the lucky ones, one of the healthy,
normal children we all.

Speaker 1 (14:47):
Give thanks for.

Speaker 8 (14:48):
She can run and skate and even jump double Dutch.
But there are over two hundred and fifty thousand other
children in the United States who can't. They have serebal palsy.
They will never take part in active sports, maybe not
even walk, but they can be helped through therapy and
through special training. Many cerebral palsy'd learn to live satisfactory

(15:10):
and useful lions. There are three hundred and forty four
local affiliates of United Cerebral Palsy who support the hundreds
of programs in hospitals, clinics, and special schools that are
so needed. United Cerebral Palsy asks you to help contribute
to the fifty three minute March on Cerebral Palsy. Do
it today.

Speaker 3 (15:43):
More coffee, No thanks, Mely Marshall, I don't know what
makes you think. Mister Fallen has been visiting me and.

Speaker 1 (15:52):
He's wearing a gun, Melly, and he means to use it.
I know, was it Fallon?

Speaker 3 (16:00):
Nobody's been out here except.

Speaker 1 (16:01):
You and Doc Adam, and they doesn't believe that, do you?

Speaker 3 (16:07):
No, Marshall, it's true. What's the matter with you? Man?
Would you take a woman's word for anything?

Speaker 7 (16:17):
Andy?

Speaker 2 (16:19):
Oh, Marshall do it. You're about the last man I
would have suspected, Marshall. Andy, Wait, stay out of this. Milly.

Speaker 1 (16:27):
You just keep your hands where they are. Marshall are
making a mistake. Andy, you've already made yours. And it
was a bad one, a real bad one. Now you
listening to I'll here's you, Marshall.

Speaker 3 (16:34):
I swear I well, Andy, it wasn't a Marshall.

Speaker 1 (16:36):
Now, and I think it was fallen.

Speaker 6 (16:41):
Valin.

Speaker 1 (16:42):
I came out here to prove it if I could.

Speaker 2 (16:45):
How are you gonna do that?

Speaker 1 (16:46):
By face? And Milly whether she's a poor liar?

Speaker 4 (16:49):
Andy?

Speaker 6 (16:51):
Was it fallon Milly?

Speaker 3 (16:53):
There wasn't anybody out here?

Speaker 2 (16:54):
You're a lion. It was fallon who else?

Speaker 6 (16:57):
Would it be?

Speaker 1 (16:58):
Sure?

Speaker 2 (16:59):
The whole thing figures out easy?

Speaker 1 (17:00):
I'll wait a minute. I know you're trying to stop
a shooting, Marshall, but it won't do no good. I'll
keep falling on site, not while I'm around here. Once
you're gonna go back to Dodge with me, and then
we'll have this out there and with our gun play. Now,
let's go. Don't worry about it.

Speaker 7 (17:18):
I'll be alright, Andy, Andy, you.

Speaker 1 (17:42):
It's me all right.

Speaker 3 (17:44):
I'm surprised we're both here. Annie in the Marshall, Yeah,
I've seen them.

Speaker 1 (17:52):
I've been waiting for him to leave.

Speaker 3 (17:54):
How long you've been here?

Speaker 1 (17:56):
Long enough to see Andy ride up?

Speaker 3 (18:00):
He knows it was you. He knows you've been visiting me.
The Marshall told him.

Speaker 9 (18:04):
The Marshall told him.

Speaker 1 (18:10):
What kind of a lie is that?

Speaker 2 (18:12):
It's true?

Speaker 1 (18:12):
You told him?

Speaker 9 (18:13):
Really, nobody else could have? You got me in a
fine mess now?

Speaker 3 (18:18):
And I wish I had told him. I wish I
had had a.

Speaker 4 (18:22):
Better than the rest of them.

Speaker 6 (18:24):
Prettier.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
That's all you get out of here?

Speaker 6 (18:27):
Not quite yet.

Speaker 9 (18:29):
First, I'm gonna teach you a lesson. I'm gonna teach
you to keep your mouth shut.

Speaker 2 (18:36):
Get out of here.

Speaker 9 (18:37):
Like I said, not quite yet.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
I ain't soak all around.

Speaker 1 (18:59):
How all day may be here, it's oft.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
He'd better be well, Andy, where you've been? I looked
everywhere for you. Where's Fallon Jenkins? I don't know.

Speaker 1 (19:11):
Take a look out back Chester. Maybe you wouldn't mind
telling me what's going on here, Marshall, Like Andy said,
we're looking for Fallon. Falon's going to be looking for him.
He finds out Andy's been loafing on the job. Falan's
paying Andy too much money, as it is not for long.
He ain't you're getting a dollar day more than you're worth.

Speaker 6 (19:28):
Andy.

Speaker 1 (19:28):
Whose idea was that Jenkins to pay him that money?
It wasn't mine. I'm only the clerk here. I don't
have no reason for it doing. But Fallin does huh?

Speaker 7 (19:37):
Ain't?

Speaker 3 (19:37):
No man?

Speaker 7 (19:39):
All right?

Speaker 1 (19:39):
Where is he?

Speaker 4 (19:40):
Chins?

Speaker 2 (19:41):
You sure you want me to tell you, Marshall?

Speaker 1 (19:44):
Did he go out to Andy's place?

Speaker 2 (19:46):
He was looking kind of worried after talking to you
last night, and then he is out there? He sure is.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
And you're looking mighty stupid son.

Speaker 2 (19:53):
Running all over the country while Falon's.

Speaker 1 (19:55):
Out there court and your wife having himself a fine time.
Why you don't wish your alright, let's go?

Speaker 2 (20:21):

Speaker 1 (20:25):
I just got a feeling that there's something wrong Andy, Milly, really,
what happened to you?

Speaker 2 (20:36):
Well? What happened?

Speaker 11 (20:37):
Are you hurt?

Speaker 7 (20:39):
I'm alright?

Speaker 11 (20:40):
Balin?

Speaker 2 (20:41):
Where's Fallin? He's here?

Speaker 6 (20:42):
I know it?

Speaker 11 (20:43):
Now?

Speaker 8 (20:43):
Where is he?

Speaker 12 (20:43):
Milly in there in the house?

Speaker 1 (20:51):
Ballin? He got shot? Who did that?

Speaker 6 (20:59):
Fella?

Speaker 1 (21:01):
Who shot you?

Speaker 4 (21:03):
Milly Millie?

Speaker 1 (21:08):
I tried to beat her, she shot me. I ain't
doing so good.

Speaker 4 (21:18):
Hum you better go on out to Milly.

Speaker 1 (21:39):
Milly, Milly, I was wrong not trusting you. Why didn't
you tell me that first day?

Speaker 3 (21:50):
I didn't want any trouble Andy? But I was wrong too.
I'm not telling you.

Speaker 1 (22:01):
Trouble's all over now.

Speaker 3 (22:04):
I was going to the river wash when I heard
you ride up.

Speaker 4 (22:12):
