I was given my first copy of Khalil Gibran’s ‘The Prophet’ when I was about 16 years old by my drama teacher at the time.  I have since read it many times, bought other copies and given them to friends and acquaintances over the years.  It is a book to read and reflect upon its messages. I have found it so profound in different times of my life and also has given me much comfort.

It took Khalil Gibran 11 years to write this book and it is the first part of a trilogy – The Prophet, The Garden of the Prophet and The Death of the Prophet and are among about 25 books that he wrote.  ‘The Prophet’ is his most famous book and has sold millions of copies world wide.

Khalil Gibran was born in Lebanon in 1883 in a village called Bisharri and moved to America with his family in 1895 when he was 12 years old.  As a Poet, Artist and Writer, Khalil Gibran studied in Paris and then moved back to America.

He passed away at the age of 48 in 1931 and his body was shipped back and cremated in Lebanon.

I hope you enjoy listening to ‘The Prophet’ and its messages as much as I enjoyed reading and reflecting on them.

Have you been to the Great Wolf Lodge that's nearby.
We took our kids last weekend and they won't stop
talking about it.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
There's a huge indoor water park that's always eighty four degrees,
and they have dozens of other family activities like a
ropes course, bowling, and more.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
It's the perfect getaway. It's so close.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
We literally hopped in the car and we were there
in no time. We all had a blast and we
barely had to do any planning. So if you have
a free weekend coming up, now's the time to book
a trip to the Perryville Lodge just outside of Baltimore.
Or if you're in the Virginia area, check out the
lodge in Williamsburg. Head to Great Wolf dot com to

Speaker 4 (01:03):
Khalil Gabrand's The Prophet Chapter two, Love Then said, Almitra,
speak to us of love. And he raised his head
and looked upon the people, and there fell a stillness

(01:25):
upon them. And with a great voice, he said, when
love beckons to you, follow him, though his ways are
hard and steep, And when his wings enfold you, yield
to him, though the sword hidden among his pinions may

(01:47):
wound you. And when he speaks to you, believe in him,
though his voice may shatter your dreams. As the north
wind lays waste the garden. For even as love crowns you,
so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for

(02:11):
your growth, so he is for your pruning. Even as
he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches
that quiver in the sun, so shall he descend to
your roots and shake them in the clinging to the

(02:33):
earth like sheaves of corn. He gathers you unto himself.
He threshes you to make you naked. He sifts you
to free you from your husks. He grinds you to whiteness.
He needs you until you are pliant, and then he

(02:59):
assigns you to his sacred fire, that you may become
sacred bread for God's sacred feast. All these things shall
Love do unto you, that you may know the secrets
of your heart, and in that knowledge become a fragrant

(03:20):
of life's heart. But if in your fear you would
seek only love's peace and love's pleasure, then it is
better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass
out of love's threshing floor into the seasonless world, where

(03:43):
you shall laugh but not all of your laughter, and
weep but not all of your tears. Love gives nought
but itself, and takes nought. But from itself. Love possesses not,
nor would it be possessed. For love is sufficient unto love.

(04:10):
When you love, you should not say God is in
my heart, but rather I am in the heart of God,
and think not. You can direct the course of love,
for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.

(04:31):
Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself. But
if you love and must needs have desires, let these
be your desires. To melt and be like a running
brook that sings its melody to the night, to know

(04:55):
the pain of too much tenderness, to be wounded by
your own understanding of love, and to bleed willingly and
joyfully to wake at dawn with a winged heart and
give thanks for another day of loving. To rest at

(05:18):
the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy. To return home
at eventide with gratitude, and then to sleep with a
prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song

(05:39):
of praise upon your lips
