Speaker 1 (00:08):
What is going on? Clippers fans? Welcome to season three,
episode six to seven of Clips in Dip. I am
Chuck Mockler, joined by Adam Oslin and William Updyke. We
are in the off season for the Clippers. We're coming
at you once a week. Thank you for hanging out.
If you ever like to watch us, especially now that
we have DIP reviews and DIP recipes on deck, you
(00:31):
can find us at YouTube dot com slash at Clippers Podcast.
There's a lot of good stuff to talk about today.
We're gonna talk about some of the potential players the
Clippers could sign, some rumors that have been floating around
that I personally don't think make any damn sense. And then,
of course, because it's his Clips and Dip, we have
some DIP talk because it's the off season. Before we
(00:52):
get into all of that, Adam Will hey fellas doing
no more Clippers basketball. We are fully in this offseason.
How's it going, Adam is good? Will.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
We'll start with you, honestly, you know it feels good.
It's bittersweet. We were talking before we got on here, though,
I mean, with all these injuries in the playoffs, it's
it hasn't been a It hasn't really been a picnic
for anybody. So yeah, I don't know. Glad to be
back though, Glad to see y'all, Glad to talk clips,
glad to talk dips. It's a beautiful day.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
All right, Adam, and you Yeah, Sadly, it's like the
basketball guys are like, well, we don't have the Clippers
to get injured anymore, so we got to take advantage
of all these other teams that are still it's awful.
It's awful the Jason Tatum injury. Watching that live. He's
one of my favorite players too, and he just turned
twenty seven. Like, it's unbelievable. I feel terrible for them.
(01:45):
We've been through so much of this with the Clippers.
It's just survival of the fittest once again this year
in the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Yeah, it's been such a well, like you were saying before,
it's just like once a year, there's at least one
a year now, which devastating injury to a star, which
is bad. And I'm sure the discourse this summer is
going to be around how can they reduce these injuries?
Speaker 2 (02:08):
But it's very clear it's what are you talking about?
It's very clear, it's very easy. It's so stupid. More games,
yeah yeah, yeah, like either less games or if you're
not going to have less games, like you got to
elongate the season, like you know what in the summer,
you just don't have that much stuff. I think the
(02:30):
we were talking about this, we were texting about this.
I think the rest period's shrinking as the playoffs go
on is so stupid, Like there's no reason to truncate it,
Like there's just there's truly no point. Why can you
not have two days in between, like have the playoffs
go later? How the playoffs go through July? Like who cares?
Speaker 3 (02:51):
I think it's they don't want to push back the draft,
free agency.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
I guess cares about the draft that's so studpid compared
to the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
Who cares compared to player safety, compare to the compared
to their health. I they've done it before due to COVID,
they figured things out before. I I know they're never
going to take away games because there's too much money
to be made, but just lengthen the season. Space the
games out.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Yeah, space them out. And it's it's a tough balance
to you because players don't want to lose their offseason.
So they're like, well, if the season's longer, you space
it out.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
We have less.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
I don't know. It's a conundrum, but we hope it stops.
Will it probably not, but but we're along for the right. Hey,
at least for fans of a team that wins more
than they lose over the past ten years, that's cool.
See if you're not watching your Missing Adams incredibly enthusiastic
(03:51):
thumbs up. Okay, it's what's sincere, guys, it's sincere. So
there's been random rumors floating around about Giannis, about Austin Reeves.
There was Jonathan kuminga news today that he's gonna be
They're going to try and find a sign in trade.
But for the people who don't fully maybe know the
(04:15):
cap situation the Clippers, they have thirteen guys signed. You
have James Harden with the player option, Nico with the
player option. Everything we've seen seems to say that Nico's
going to opt in, whereas Harden is probably going to
opt out. And we've we're all pretty comfortable with if
he opts out. Two years for like forty million a
(04:37):
year for James Harden, Yeah, lines up with Kawhi not
that crazy, but the Clippers are. And this is from
Justin Rousseau, twenty one million dollars over the salary cap,
but twelve million dollars under the luxury tax. Because of this,
we have access to the fourteen million dollar non tax
(05:00):
payer mid level exception, so that gives a mobile flexibility
there like ten million away from the first apron. I
don't think they're gonna go over the first apron because
they've wanted this flexibility, right, Like, this isn't the summer to.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
Spend the Lawrence Frank at the exit interview presser said
we'll have the non tax payer mid level exception to use,
and then they asked him later about so, would you
guys go over the cap and it's it sounded to
me like for the right situation, of course they would.
(05:36):
But the assumption is they're not that right situation or
that perfect superstar that becomes available where you're like, yes,
we're definitely going over the cap for this guy is
probably not going to happen. So therefore they already know
what they're working with.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Yeah, there shouldn't be very many surprises this offseason. I
don't think do we want to start. So do you
want to start with Kaminga Giannis or Reeves. We're gonna
get into a realistic list of guys the Clippers could sign.
But there's been some ideas floating around that I've seen
(06:09):
that I don't think make any sense.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
Either.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
It's the photoshop. I've seen the mouse.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
Theas photoshop is crazy. Why why won't this happen? Adam?
Why do you like it's impossible?
Speaker 3 (06:27):
Christ can't have nice things? No, it's judging, especially after
what we saw Monday night, was that when the draft
lottery took place, I believe so. Yes, yes, after seeing
the Dallas Mavericks and the San Antonio Spurs get top
two picks, Well, I don't think Dallas is going to
trade because they're gonna end up with Cooper Flag and
(06:50):
have a nice long window timeline to work with and
sell the fans on. And yes, they got bailed out
and Nico Harrison completely got bailed out.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
They could still not take Cooper Flag, which would be
the funniest result of all that.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
Yeah, but San Antonio, if they want to, if they
want you honest, they get you honest. If Okase wants
you honest, they get y honest. Uh, If Houston wants
you honest, they get you honest. And why would all
these teams not want honest that can get you honest?
Is the question. Before the Clippers would have any chance
(07:27):
of putting together a deal with one first round pick
and who they're gonna have to give up a Viza
Zoo boss most likely in a trade like that. If
you're talking about dealing for Giannis, they're gonna lose Zoo like.
That's that's the piece that Milwaukee would want most. So
it's it's nonsensical. It's not going to happen. The only
(07:48):
way that they would even have a chance, and I
would say it's still slight to less than one percent,
is if Yannis said I only want to go to
the Clippers now. For that to happen would be unlikely.
But even if he said that he's under contract for
two more years, a team could go, cool, we're calling
your bluff. Will still give up assets for you because
(08:08):
we know you're under contract for two more years. There's
nothing you can do about it. So it's not a
rental or a one year thing where he has that
much control over it.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
Yeah, it's just not will are you more impressed with
the photoshop quality or the possibilities of people's minds to
think that this is possible.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
I mean, it's both a little delusional but a huge
shout out to the people, you know, taking the time
to do the jersey swaps. The jersey the jersey photoshoppers
don't use AI. I've been seeing some basketball I ass
stuff on the timeline. You're you're a loser if you're
doing that. But the people, the people, the people taking
the time to photoshop jerseys, real ones, you know, regardless
(08:52):
of how stupid the idea is.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
And there's no assets, right if you go to a
trade machine or whatever, which people do. I can't remember
what the classic line. There was some Twitter user who
would send trades and they would say, per the rules,
this works, Yeah, as if that is what that is,
the only thing you have to work in is does
the trade work?
Speaker 2 (09:15):
Yeah? I love like people who would just yeah. I like,
I have more respect for the jersey photoshoppers than the
trade machine screenshotters though, like a lot more so.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
Why use yourself up to be disappointed with this, Like,
let's just let's just end it right now, it's over.
They're not getting honest.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
Yeah, Zoo, Norman Derek Jones, Junior works who says no, right,
and one pick who says no, no, it would be
a nightmare. It's not gonna happen, photoshop something else. It
just what happened. Austin Reeves is another one that has
no shot of happening. I do not think the issue.
(09:58):
I also want to say there's a new thing now
because betting is so popular that they'll be like, oh,
the Clippers are a favorite to land Austin Reeves. That's
only because people have decided to bet on the Clippers
to land Austin Reeves. It's not an actual sort. It's
just like people are betting it, which does.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
Not people know.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
Yeah, which doesn't really mean anything. What would the Clippers
give up for Austin Reeves that would be good for it?
Speaker 3 (10:26):
Like?
Speaker 2 (10:26):
What else? Like? What the fuck are we talking about here?
Speaker 1 (10:29):
He makes thirteen million a year, which is not a lot.
He's locked up for twenty five twenty six, and then
has a player option for twenty six twenty seven. I
cannot see the Lakers. Wasn't their last trade with US
the Zoo trade? Yeah, I don't think they're coming back
to that well to get Zoo. Bet like that is
a good call. Well, they would probably want Zoo because
(10:49):
who else?
Speaker 2 (10:50):
What else do we have to offer them?
Speaker 1 (10:52):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (10:54):
Yeah, I don't know if they're like, Okay, we want
norm and why would you want normal? Second, because they
don't make more He makes more money.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
He's older, Like, I don't, I don't see it. He's
way worse defensively.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
I mean, yeah, the thing is like, what's the upgrade?
Speaker 2 (11:14):
What's the point?
Speaker 3 (11:17):
I think there's a deal out there for Austin Reeves.
I just don't know if the Clippers are the team
that has what the Lakers want. If they had a
big man that was negotiable, that's not a beat of Zubos,
then yes they'd be they'd be a suitor. So it's
unlikely in that respect, just because they don't have the
right parts that the Lakers looking for.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
Yeah, there there is a trade out there for them,
I'm pretty sure, But I don't think it's.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
Oh, there's a market. There's a market for Austin Reeves.
Of course. Yeah, that's not what I'm saying at all.
It's just I don't I don't see the move for
the Clippers.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
They also seem to want you know, they got to
prioritize like size and kind of athleticism. Clippers don't have
that for this trade. That's what kind of did us
in during the playoffs?
Speaker 2 (12:07):
DJ for Reeves straight up?
Speaker 1 (12:09):
Sure, I would day.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
I mean, okay, why not? DJ is the type of
guy that they would like. But how do you build
around that with enough? That's not crazy? Because DJ is
on a team friendly contract, and if the deal is
they don't want to pay Austin Reeves because he's going
to opt out and be a free agent after this year.
(12:32):
Maybe there's something to work with there, but it still
seems unlikely.
Speaker 1 (12:37):
What do we what's his contract? What's his next contract
projected at?
Speaker 3 (12:42):
What do we do we have over one hundred million?
Probably probably, I.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
Mean it'll be it'll be tougher because of you know,
having both Lebron and Luke on the team, but like
he's gonna make an All Star team.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
He could in the right situation. This for sure he
could make one hundred and fifty million the next deal. Yeah,
he took less the first deal, So I don't know.
I'm a big fan of Austin and Reeves as a player. Uh,
I know, Laker Clippers fans won't like hearing praise for Lakers.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
But he's so he's very good.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
I mean he's yeah, he's theerious who cares.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
He's way better than I anticipated in.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
But Derek Jones Junior. I also, the Clippers aren't trading
a first round pick for anybody. I think we've gone
through this long enough where they want everyone keeps clamoring
for youth and all that. It's really hard to do
that when you don't have first round picks is one
of the issues. So it's like, I don't think the
(13:50):
front office is eager to deal any of those as
for anybody this summer, like for who's available.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
Definitely not to the Lakers. I think the only way
deals happened with a rifle like that is if somebody
is getting swindled, which is what happened with they beat
to Supots. That was an absolute fleeceh job where Lawrence
Frank was like, okay, thanks Magic, I did not expect
this phone call right before the deadline.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
They were at dinner. Isn't the story that they were
all at dinner and they did didn't they laugh? Yeah?
I think Jerry West said they were all at dinner
and they're like, Okay.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
I remember when the kyon came up on the screen.
I was like, what, No, that didn't happen.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
It made no sense.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
It came in really late.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
Shout out to the Lakers for that. But yeah, and
seeing the reaction of giving the Lakers a first round
pick would be I mean, I would be sharing in
the rage or whatever the feelings would be. It would
be Clevers fans would implode, rightfully, So I think.
Speaker 3 (14:59):
I like Austin a lot. But yeah, unless you're dealing
the first with DJ and something, I don't think it's happening.
Speaker 1 (15:06):
And it's not lining up with the Clippers playing right,
it's all. It's all after next season the most. I
don't know if interesting is the right word.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (15:17):
Jonathan Kaminga reportedly the Warriors are looking at sign and
trade situations for him. I would say I am incredibly
confused at what Kaminga's value is. Seems Warriors fans.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
It's got I mean, they gotta be selling low on him.
He's not even like he's barely in the playoffertation right.
Speaker 1 (15:37):
I saw some Warriors fans describe him as a guy
who can be great when your star is out, Like
you know, like basically like for a bad team, like
if he was on like the Hornets and LaMelo was out,
Kaminga would be a good guy, you know what I mean?
Like so not like a very good winning NBA basketball player, right,
(15:58):
Like his tenure and the Warriors been super weird. He
doesn't seem very good. I don't think he has athleticism.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
But I'm a fan. I don't think it's hard to
give an appraisal on him because of his Warriors tenure.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
Totally.
Speaker 3 (16:15):
I do think. I have a tweet out there from
a couple of years ago saying he's gonna end up
being a star. I think he has. Yeah, somebody could
pull the receipt on that. He's still twenty three, I think.
I think. I think the reason he hasn't gotten much
time is because style of play and lack of motor.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
He's twenty two. Damn sorry, I just checked that out.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
Yeah, for the right price, I would do it. Honestly.
This is the guy that they held out giving up
for Paul George trade last summer. They wouldn't entertain that
and they didn't give him the extension then for two
hundred million or whatever it is, that's that's the problem,
(17:02):
Like how much is the science trade. I guess I
should wait to say I would do it because I
need to know what the number is. But I'm interested
in Jonathan Kaminga, even with his up and down kind
of who is he as a player type play?
Speaker 1 (17:20):
Yeah, not adding him in that in the Paul George
that was such a weird saga. I don't think we
were ever training Paul George the Warriors, But yeah, I
guess that's because what is he?
Speaker 3 (17:34):
I think they would have for Kaminga honestly, well.
Speaker 1 (17:36):
Because he's young. He brings what the Clippers need, which
is that youth and athleticism. Maybe I'm turning on this idea,
maybe I'm flip flopping, but you think he could be
at like forty a year.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
I don't know what the max is for him, and
as a researcher free agent.
Speaker 2 (17:56):
I don't love that he's super on board, but I
don't love.
Speaker 3 (18:02):
That it's definitely a risk. The thing is they're likely
going to have to take on at some point, I think,
because it's very rare that good players like Luka Donci
just get moved. They are young and having all that
cap space in twenty twenty six and twenty twenty seven
(18:22):
is great. The problem is the best players or the
most talented players aren't going to be available that way.
You're going to have to trade for them.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
Yeah, it's a great point.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
Is he that guy? I don't know. We just have
not seen enough Steve Kerr refused to play him. The
opinions are all over the place. But the potential is the.
Speaker 2 (18:42):
Last minutes per game that he did in their title
run like that, I mean, oh yeah, Like I just
feel like that speaks to like where he is in
the rotation and how they feel about his development.
Speaker 3 (18:52):
I just don't know. Warriors fans have gone after Kerr
a lot for this. He doesn't play the first round
at all against Houston or not till the very end,
and then he starts playing a bunch and it wasn't
just because Steph Curry was out against Minnesota and a
lot of people are going, why wasn't he playing before?
(19:13):
What is the problem here? Like does he have real
attitude issues and refuses to buy into the system and
just isn't a Kurr guy. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
I think it might be the not aker guy thing.
That's a lot of what I've just passively.
Speaker 2 (19:30):
Have take he reminds him too much of Michael Jordan.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
That god damn it, he's too great. Yeah, he's like,
I'm just worried man. Yeah, it's just weird. Weird is
the perfect way to talk about his tenure as a warrior,
because it's also what does it look like next year?
Because this is the last ride for this for Steph,
(19:54):
you know what I mean, Like for Steph Draymond. Maybe
I'll eat my words, but it doesn't feel like the
next year they're going to come back and try and
necessarily run back the exact same thing. So maybe next year,
if he stays with the Wearers, he looks a little
better or something like that. But it's odd. The contract
offer is going to be really interesting from both like
(20:15):
just where both sides are at.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
Yeah, do you offer like a low ball offer of
one hundred million and see if they'll do that and
a sign and trade and then what would you give
up for him? I guess from the Clippers, what would
they be after? What would they be looking for? Norman Powell?
They need shooting, they could use somebody like that?
Speaker 1 (20:40):
Could they use that? I mean, not to repeat what
Will said, could they use Derek Jones Jr.
Speaker 3 (20:46):
Anybody, I mean, young athleticism nobody wants so, yeah, that's
probably somebody they would inquire about. Maybe they'd ask about Don.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
The real untouchables I think on the Clippers are Kawhi, Harden, Zoo.
Speaker 3 (21:09):
That's about it, because teams won't trade for some of
those guys as untouchables.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
Yeah, partially, yes, and Zoo's not going anywhere if they
traded Zoo, I personally would riot.
Speaker 3 (21:23):
I would imagine they'd be getting quite a hole if
they gave into trading Zoo.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
Yeah, and again how much does it That's the fact
that it's the Warriors that you're trading with factor into
some of this.
Speaker 3 (21:36):
I think, yeah, uh, I mean they have Jimmy Butler
signed the next two years for like sixty dollars a year.
They're gonna have to do the same thing with their
big three. It's gonna be Draymond, Jimmy and Steph and
just how do you get better around those guys. It's
not that dissimilar to what the Clippers are dealing with
(21:59):
in some ways.
Speaker 1 (22:00):
It's a good call like that, aging top end stars
will who would you who would you give up for? Commina.
Is anyone on the table other than those three guys, now,
I think they gotta sell high on Norm if the
if the right offers out there, if Norm was involved
(22:20):
in kaminga trade, I would, I think, be pretty okay
with it. Toody two is crazy. I don't know if
she was that young.
Speaker 2 (22:30):
Also, Yeah, I like I think fit wise. I think
I think fit wise. It just makes a lot of sense.
I think, Yeah, outside of the the three, I would
put anybody on the table.
Speaker 3 (22:43):
So the max he could get is fine either. Yeah,
the max he can get is five years to twenty four.
I can't see happening at this point.
Speaker 1 (22:54):
Yeah, I mean for him, that would be pretty funny.
If he was that would be so confusing. If you
were Jonathan Kaminga and you got the fire them, You're like, what, okay,
forty five a year is insane. Like, you guys don't
seem to like me very much, but you're gonna pay
me all this money. That's fine. We've all been in
those situations before.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
I wonder if they've held him back at all so
they can try to bring him back on a lower deal.
I'm sure him and his agent has felt like that.
At times teams do it.
Speaker 1 (23:26):
Right, like, it wouldn't be crazy.
Speaker 2 (23:28):
Although if he is like a dissenter, I don't know
how much he'll love being on the Clippers center. Although
if he likes shining when stars are out, he will
have a lot of.
Speaker 1 (23:37):
Opportunities, right, it'll be interesting. Let us know at Clippers
pot on Twitter or at Clippers podcast on YouTube, which
of these options? How do you feel about any of them?
The honest thing's not happening coaminga baby. I might be
sold on cominga now for the right price.
Speaker 3 (23:59):
You think he's he wruk me down for the right price.
Speaker 1 (24:02):
He's one hundred million dollar contract guy, though.
Speaker 3 (24:06):
He is going to get at least one hundred I
would suspect, And ye, that's fine. He took less even
that would be less than the two twenty four, But
he takes less on like a two year, three year deal.
So then he's a free agent again at twenty five
and can get a bigger deal.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
Yeah, two more deals after that tooth theory, right, like
at least two more bigs? Yeah huh.
Speaker 3 (24:30):
That sign me up for three year extension with him,
even if the years are high, even if it's like
thirty five million, but it's only three years and it's
still kind of a type of prove it contract. I'm
interested in that.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
I could see the prove it contract being given he
hasn't proven, Like, no disrespect him, what has he.
Speaker 4 (24:51):
Wait, what do you think the proven contract would look like?
Speaker 3 (24:55):
Like three years, one ten or something maybe.
Speaker 1 (24:59):
Whatever, Like if that's it and he wants to come
to the Clippers, I would be like, sure.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
What I mean, here's a player option. Therefore he's still
lining up with the two years with Kawhi and James.
Speaker 2 (25:11):
Feel like that's actually like really reasonable for like what
you know, I think that should be closer to when
his expectations are than forty five.
Speaker 1 (25:20):
And if he was, if he was locked up for
a three year deal, he would still be under contract
when our books open up, because he'd be locked in
after twenty six, twenty seven or twenty six, which is
when they open up. So like that would be I'm
not mad at that. For the rules all of this works.
They should do it exactly how we've described it. I
(25:43):
wonder if he has preferred destinations what I think.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
But again, if you're the Warriors, like who cares are
you doing business with the Clippers.
Speaker 3 (25:54):
They would for Paul George apparently. I don't know why
get the best deal I.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
Know, but like it sounds like the Paul George deal
was for Slot Well, like that's I don't remember the
exact trade, but I remember it. It was like basically,
we're getting salary match in like a pick, like.
Speaker 3 (26:13):
Come on, yeah, they were trying to dump Wiggans his contract.
They've actually get anyways Moody. Uh maybe Gary Payton the second,
maybe get Gary Payton's but he did me.
Speaker 2 (26:28):
Yeah, we don't need any more of those.
Speaker 3 (26:32):
I'm just I'm interested in Kamenka. It is one of
the biggest unknowns in the NBA. I just am of
the belief that the Clippers are going to have to
strike gold on somebody like this in a trade at
some point during this rebuild, this next era process.
Speaker 2 (26:52):
Yeah, I had done it before.
Speaker 1 (26:54):
He brings everything the Clippers need again basketball a fit wise.
I just say, we know for sure he brings what
the Clippers and need maybe except for basketball fit wise,
because we don't have a bunch of you know, and
it's like you watch it like he would thrive in
Tyler's system or something like that, because it's just been
(27:14):
so spotty.
Speaker 3 (27:16):
The thing is, the Warriors the fit for him might
be bad because he is more of an ISO player
and that's how he projects out to be. And they
do a lot of you know, cutting off curls, and
that's not the Clippers. They don't make as many passes
as the Cold State Warriors do.
Speaker 1 (27:36):
Hmmm, all right, well, I've completely flip flopped since we
started this conversation. It's the beauty of the pod.
Speaker 3 (27:46):
We worked our way through it.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
We worked our way through it.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
Guys, I'm back in on the honest. I would like
the honest. Actually, when do they.
Speaker 1 (27:55):
Have to sign kaminga by like?
Speaker 3 (27:58):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (27:58):
Trade?
Speaker 3 (28:00):
So? I think I think for Harden's opt in or
opt out is it's June twenty ninth. I think. I
don't know if that lines up with some of the
other decisions that have to be made.
Speaker 2 (28:12):
But it's around, it's around there. It's it's usually, isn't
it by like the first week of July? Something like
that sounds right, Well.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
We'll be at a fourth We'll be at the fourth
of July, clips in at barbecue, and we'll get the
alert that we've traded for Jonathan. We've prophesized that we've
traded for Jonathan. We've traded Norm and Derek Jones Junior
for Tom Jonathan Kamina. Then we go live from the
Grill and then sand Bringer Davy, all right, let us
(28:44):
know what you give up for Jonathan Kaminga and nobody
else that we've talked about because it's impossible over at
Clippers pod or at Clippers podcast on YouTube. Coming up,
we're gonna look at some realistic free agent targets for
the Clippers. And let me tell you what. It is.
Not a sexy list we just did this. No, these
are real ones. These are these are ones that we
(29:04):
can just sign. These are the signables if you are
into that kind of thing. And then we're talking dips
because in the off season we got so many letters
that we needed to uh talk about dips. So I'm
excited to get into that. We have I have no
idea what y'all brought, so it should be a good time.
Uh audio listens is gonna be a quick ad break,
(29:25):
and then we are talking the signables coming up in
three two one.
Speaker 2 (29:30):
All right, welcome back into clips, and we talked about
some big swings. You know, this is this is the
off season. This is what everybody wants to talk about.
So I'm sure we'll have more of this content for you.
We might, we might do some deep dives on some
other potential trades. But let's look at the free agent list.
These are guys that we could just outright sign. Not
gonna be I'm gonna tell you right now, there's not
(29:51):
gonna be a lot of showstoppers on this list. But Charles,
why don't you run us down? What? Why don't you
start with the best possible signing. Let's go, let's go
from there, and then let's get our expectations high. Let's
go ahead and ride on down.
Speaker 1 (30:05):
I don't know if high expectations a great expectation our
two words should be used with this free agent list.
I put it in the rundown of what do you got?
So we also the Clippers want what right like and
like a four, an Aaron Gordon type four who's big
or something doesn't have to be done? Boom, second option
(30:26):
back up five? Like, no, that's do we all agree that?
Maybe that's the consensus the Foh maybe.
Speaker 3 (30:33):
Malcolm Brogden, Yeah, happening.
Speaker 1 (30:41):
Prorogen's probably happening. They already did it once, it can
do it again? Do we want?
Speaker 3 (30:49):
Like?
Speaker 1 (30:49):
Is Gershan Yabuseli the best option of this list of guys.
I encourage you listening if you haven't looked at the
list of free agents, to go look at it because
it is not I don't mean to disrespect any of
these incredible players who play in the NBA. It's not
the coolest looking list for a team that wants to
(31:11):
stay under the apron.
Speaker 3 (31:14):
I'm a fan of Abucelli. He's also not as young
as you might think. He's about to turn thirty. I think, yeah,
he had a really good year in his second stint
in the NBA, but he was there before, drafted by
Boston and then was out for a few years. Came
back last year was with Philly. Shot thirty eight percent
from the outside, you know, dunked on Lebron, big, strong
(31:40):
and can shoot that. He is the prototype. He was
on a minimum though he was a proven deal for
him this last year he could just stay in the NBA.
This time he had the right opportunity and made the
most of it. How much is he going to ask
for a hundred million?
Speaker 2 (31:56):
One hundred million?
Speaker 1 (31:58):
I mean he might ask for it.
Speaker 3 (32:01):
Eighty.
Speaker 1 (32:03):
Oh man, that would be I would feel terrible about that.
I like jamas Elli, but I don't know if I
like him that much.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
Is he a starr in caliber? Four?
Speaker 3 (32:15):
Well? Three years? Sixty five? Okay, we love sixty five?
Speaker 2 (32:19):
Here, favorite film, favorite contract deal for the rail clips
and dip heads.
Speaker 1 (32:26):
If you remember that one, let us know. Yeah, Yamacelli's
on there. Thomas Bryant bad Sure, these are the guys.
This is who Larry Nance juniors.
Speaker 3 (32:47):
As you recover from the hand injury, you have a
broken hand like all of last year. I like Claroness
he is. He's getting up there.
Speaker 1 (33:00):
He's absolutely getting up there. Great locker room guy. It
seems like, yeah, he broke his hand in uh December
twenty four.
Speaker 2 (33:08):
Teammates. Teammates do seem to live in.
Speaker 3 (33:11):
He's not a starting caliber power forward though. To me, no,
you have to be able to shoot from three if
you're going to start next to VI's Zubas. He's not
that guy.
Speaker 2 (33:24):
He's not that guy.
Speaker 1 (33:26):
Anybody anybody else on this list that you guys can see.
Speaker 3 (33:32):
Alex Lenn's on this list.
Speaker 1 (33:34):
Oh buddy for backup five? Got the lenhead? Count me
in have him compete with whatever rookie giant guy we
bring in.
Speaker 3 (33:42):
I'm telling you right now, you know what, just a gaze.
I hope we get him. Never mind, I'm not gonna
he's a star. He's a stud.
Speaker 1 (33:52):
He's a star. Steven Adams.
Speaker 3 (33:56):
I love the hell Adams all day.
Speaker 2 (33:59):
Yeah, good love.
Speaker 1 (34:00):
Looked like he made twelve and a half. He's unrestricted.
Like the Clippers aren't going to give him the full
because they have fours at fourteen with the the incredibly
long titled exception. They have the non taxpayer mid level exception.
I don't think you give them. You don't give him
all fourteen. I don't think, because again he's a year older.
Speaker 3 (34:22):
But maybe they have to though, I mean, how.
Speaker 1 (34:26):
Would you be mad at fourteen for Steven Adams.
Speaker 3 (34:29):
Here's he's limited. People got realized he had major injury issues.
I think this is somebody that got the you know,
cadaver body part. It's you know, kind of a un
orthodox surgery.
Speaker 2 (34:45):
H what he.
Speaker 3 (34:46):
Missed all of last year, It's kind of like that
he missed half the year before that. There are real
injury concerns. I don't think he can play heavy minutes
ever again. Can he you play fifteen to twenty at night.
It didn't last year, just to point that out. If
(35:08):
he can't even be that, I though, yeah, not if
it beats zoo boxes there and healthy? Are you paying
fourteen a year?
Speaker 1 (35:20):
That's the that.
Speaker 3 (35:23):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (35:23):
I mean so I could get the jersey.
Speaker 3 (35:24):
Sure, if he's healthy, it's perfect for what you need.
And finally they have their backup big that's reliable.
Speaker 1 (35:35):
Good locker room guy too.
Speaker 3 (35:36):
Again yeah, some badass, just awesome guy.
Speaker 1 (35:40):
The health thing is the well, because that's that's the
other thing is like backup center is such a weird
thing in the current and bea land well.
Speaker 2 (35:50):
We were talking about this and like who's is really good?
Speaker 3 (35:53):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (35:53):
Who?
Speaker 2 (35:54):
Like what backup center really blows you away right now?
Where you're like that that would be a like that
would be the difference make for the Clippers.
Speaker 1 (36:01):
That's a great core of centers they have there. Like
it's not really a thing.
Speaker 3 (36:09):
It's not a thing. It's not as valued of a
position anymore. Uh. That That's been my argument, Like Clippers fans,
you keep talking about having a bad backup center. Who
are all these teams with these stud backup centers? Is
Denver have some great backup center for jo Kish. No,
it's DeAndre Jordan and Dario sariz who never plays.
Speaker 1 (36:32):
Man the Dario. Remember when Boogie Cousins just crushed Dario
Sarretz in those minutes in the Spurs series. That was
what a fever dream that was. Yeah, So I don't know,
it's it's not a good list. I don't think.
Speaker 2 (36:51):
Adam anyone else not on this list on your radar
sign sign wise.
Speaker 1 (36:56):
Bowl Bull Uh, some say better than then?
Speaker 2 (37:00):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (37:01):
Oh, I don't see Capella on here. I like Clint Cappella.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
Oh is he Damn? That's a good call.
Speaker 3 (37:08):
Capella is a free agent. I'm pretty sure what uh?
And him back with Harden? I mean, he's not what
he used to be athletically, but he's good.
Speaker 1 (37:18):
He made twenty two twenty three last year, twenty three million.
Do you think you'd go down by nine million.
Speaker 3 (37:30):
To play with Harden again? Oh? Maybe it depends on Yeah.
I don't know how you've used himself? He's got one
more big contract in him? Or does he want to
try to chase a ring? What is? What is his goal?
What about?
Speaker 1 (37:46):
Uh? This is a guy he's flown under the radar.
I don't know if Clippers fans have ever, you know,
thought about adding this guy, John Collins. H he is,
he is going to be a free agent. He made
twenty five last year. I think he's twenty seven. He's
gonna probably want more than one.
Speaker 2 (38:07):
Why do you start with this.
Speaker 1 (38:09):
Because we can't because we I don't think we can
sign him, and I don't think I know he's because
of how they're not going over the first apron to
sign John Collins of.
Speaker 2 (38:23):
All the You don't think you don't think they dump
some guys and make a little space.
Speaker 3 (38:29):
I don't know who do you they'd have to like
dump Harden I think, And that means Harden would have
to make that decision as well, since he's the one adopted.
Speaker 1 (38:39):
Yeah, I also don't think. I don't know how good
John Collins is like we It's not like we bring
him in and suddenly, WHOA, the Clippers are scary, you
know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (38:54):
I agree, I have a hard time judging where he's at.
He's still young, when he's twenty six or twenty.
Speaker 1 (39:02):
Seven and a half.
Speaker 3 (39:03):
I feel like he's not athletically the same guy that
he was that could put his head on the ram
and dunk on embiid that when he was with Atlanta,
And that's a little bit concerning to me because he's
still so young. But then again, you're in a real
bad situation in Utah, real bad. It's hard to judge
(39:24):
guys that are in those spots sometimes. Yeah, he's improved
his three point shooting and if that holds up, then
he makes sense as a guy you could play next
to Vias Zuobots and also some backup five. I don't
I don't hate it. I'm just going back to your points, juck.
(39:45):
Can they really afford him? How did? How has it happen?
Speaker 1 (39:47):
He also played forty games last year, which part of
me wonders.
Speaker 3 (39:52):
They were doing some stuff right what find?
Speaker 1 (39:55):
Yeah, like, how how many games did he really miss?
Like was he unable to play?
Speaker 2 (40:03):
What about? What about old brook Lopez? What about kicking
the tires.
Speaker 3 (40:07):
On that as a backup for fifteen or nine? I'm
good with that. Yeah, he's not going to be able
to play power forward next to Vista Zubats. I think
somebody sit in the comments.
Speaker 1 (40:19):
Yeah, Lot Murray has had some great interactions with some
unhinged people on Twitter.
Speaker 2 (40:25):
Recently, He's at twenty four, but like, there's no way
he's getting anything near that.
Speaker 3 (40:31):
Yeah, sure he might get less than ten.
Speaker 1 (40:37):
Hey, less than ten Probably the best guy we're signing
for less than ten million dollars.
Speaker 2 (40:44):
I still like Stephen Adams. I.
Speaker 3 (40:48):
Yeah, he played in LA for a year, didn't he
Adams pet? Yeah, I wonder he loves Disneyland.
Speaker 2 (41:00):
He might have a house out here.
Speaker 3 (41:02):
They Yeah, there might be some selling points.
Speaker 2 (41:05):
There, like his family or something.
Speaker 1 (41:07):
He went to Stanford in Milwaukee.
Speaker 3 (41:12):
The last seven years. I don't know. I could see it.
Speaker 1 (41:16):
Him and Batomb would be fun. Vibe wise great. I
think they would be a good Yeah. Interesting. Well, let
us know that anything jumps out of the page for
you listeners or viewers. Sorry for whatever comments we're gonna
get saying that we're wrong about John Collins and that
he is the missing piece and that it would be
(41:38):
in fact our year should he sign with the LA Clippers.
Speaker 3 (41:42):
But this, guys, how do we get them?
Speaker 1 (41:45):
How do we? Yeah, tell us how we get him
with them?
Speaker 3 (41:48):
Just how do we get them?
Speaker 1 (41:49):
Yeah? What are we giving a team that is craving assets?
Because it's the Jazz where it's Danny Ainge. We're talking
about here.
Speaker 3 (41:57):
Like, I feel like they might want young assets. I
don't know how many of those are coming over from
the Clippers.
Speaker 1 (42:05):
Yeah, it'd be Jordan Miller and Kobe Brown. Those are
the two only young.
Speaker 3 (42:09):
They're about to be twenty six next year.
Speaker 1 (42:11):
Yeah. Oh yeah, the young is in his biggest clothes
and they haven't really shown very much through reasons that
are not out of their control and some within their control. Yeah,
how do we get them? I don't know.
Speaker 3 (42:30):
Any other option? Right, it's a player option. We're all
expecting him knocked out because he's due.
Speaker 1 (42:37):
Let me look, man, he signed a big contract player option.
Speaker 3 (42:46):
So yeah, it's like he can become an unstickter free agent.
What he's going to do? Utah favor. They're like, oh,
you guys can sign and trade me. How do you
get him as a free agent that he might make
thirty million dollars a year with the contract, how do
you slot that in and not go over the tax
and not over the first apron? Good luck?
Speaker 1 (43:06):
God, Harden.
Speaker 3 (43:09):
Hardens his choice in a lot of ways.
Speaker 1 (43:11):
Yeah, that's true. I don't know any final thoughts on
this list before we get into what everyone came to
this podcast for, which is dip talk. I didn't look
at point guards because I don't know what they're gonna
do with that prompted probably procked it.
Speaker 3 (43:33):
Yeah, I'm good. There's not a lot of star power
out there that Clippers can actually afford.
Speaker 1 (43:40):
Not yet anyway, talk to us in three hundred and
sixty five days. We'll be going crazy with possibilities.
Speaker 3 (43:45):
Uh we talk and playoffs then, but you know, yeah.
Speaker 1 (43:48):
Well probably still Yeah, it'll be almost a finals preview.
I guess all right, who wants to go first for
the dip talk? We need some kind of jingle for
the dip talk? We can play, but that would require
more editing. Who wants to go first?
Speaker 3 (44:02):
He's dipped in a fool, he's dipped in a pool?
Speaker 2 (44:06):
Adam, Do you want to go first? Because I believe
your dip is already gone?
Speaker 3 (44:09):
No, Yeah, I couldn't wait.
Speaker 1 (44:12):
Status.
Speaker 3 (44:14):
I just went and got some chunky guacamole from Iokiro
brand and it's really chunky, pretty good. I got some
real vegetable chips from Tara to dip in them, and uh,
it was quality. It was somewhat healthy and really tasty.
Speaker 1 (44:38):
You would bring it to a bar, would Oh? Also
for listeners. The gauge the meter is would you bring
this to a barbecue? You were invited for a friendly barbecue?
What'd you bring this to the clips and dip barbecue?
Speaker 3 (44:50):
I would sadly, it'd probably get eat on the way.
Speaker 1 (44:53):
But if history tells us anything.
Speaker 3 (44:57):
Be on the ride, it'd be in the car somewhere.
Speaker 1 (45:00):
All right, I'm gonna go next. I kept it simple.
Trader Joe's Pimento cheese dip. Nothing too crazy, pretty delicious,
shredded sharp cheddar cheese and pickled pimento peppers. I'm enjoying
them with salt and pepper ridged chips. Fantastic. Would absolutely
(45:22):
bring this to a barbecue, not necessarily spice, but it's
it's a good dip. It's a nice uh, it's good
for people who Yeah, I don't know. I would bring
this dip to the barbecue for sure, people go look
pretty good.
Speaker 3 (45:35):
That's the chips are really good too.
Speaker 1 (45:37):
Oh yeah, I can never go wrong with salt and
pepper reached chips. Will your dip? And would you bring
it to a barbecue?
Speaker 2 (45:46):
All right? So for dip wise, I got this smoked
salmon so Zeki dip. Damn this this came from Whole Foods,
and I gotta be with you. I always thought for
a long time that like people in Alaska who are
like really like, they make a big deal out of
(46:07):
not liking Atlantic salmon. I kind of thought it was
like a bit much. But they're right, and this is
Atlantic salmon, and it's definitely it's definitely inferior too to
some like to like some wild Alasking salmon. It's pretty good.
The smoke is a little the smoke is good. I
don't know. There's just not enough really kind of going
on here. Although I will be honest, I drove straight here.
(46:30):
This kind of sat in my car on the way
over here. It's been sitting out.
Speaker 4 (46:34):
Awesome and starting it's been sitting out hot.
Speaker 2 (46:38):
All podcasts is pretty hot in my ause. Uh, I
would add I definitely add like some childs and scalions
and stuff for this. I think I think it could
be improved sun dried tomatoes.
Speaker 1 (46:48):
Perhaps that sounds great.
Speaker 2 (46:51):
And I got for chip wise, I got these uh
palm crisps. They're everything bagel flavored. Did you let me
taste one of these on their own? This is good?
Pretty good, like it's good, it's good. I like it.
Speaker 3 (47:09):
I like it.
Speaker 2 (47:09):
I don't think it's like that great of a compliment
to this salmon. Like I think the cheese the like
the cheese flavors a little overpowered.
Speaker 1 (47:16):
It's a little chaotic. If I'm being perfectly awesome.
Speaker 2 (47:19):
It's a yeah, it's a it's there's a lot going
on there. Would I bring this to a barbecue, I
mean I'd have to doc your I feel like I'd
have to docu the shit out of this.
Speaker 1 (47:27):
But you're basically you're using it as a base.
Speaker 4 (47:30):
Yeah, okay, So and the crisps, like a ringing endorsement
is a customers crisp. The crisps, I would not thank you,
because they do not seem very much unless I was,
like at.
Speaker 2 (47:42):
A Keto barbecue, because otherwise I'm like, I'm not I
gotta be honest with you. I'm not shelling out nine
dollars for this size of a bag of chips for
people at a barbecue who like, don't give a ship
about the carb situation, Like what what would be the point?
You can have the salt and pepper ridge chips. Just
have those.
Speaker 1 (47:59):
They're good to act superior. You say these cost me
nine dollars.
Speaker 2 (48:04):
Well, I don't really get down like that. I'm not
trying to I'm not trying to flex or anything. It's
the opposite of a flex. It's the keto tax.
Speaker 1 (48:11):
Okay, so we went two for three on dips.
Speaker 3 (48:15):
Not bad, pretty good.
Speaker 1 (48:16):
Damn. I mean you'd be the best get chewing on Mike. Yeah, okay.
Speaker 3 (48:20):
Also better than usual player of the game stuff.
Speaker 1 (48:25):
I think we got every single one right last year.
Speaker 2 (48:30):
What's wrong with the player of the games?
Speaker 3 (48:33):
I mean, like going to out of thirty?
Speaker 1 (48:36):
Yeah, the we're batt in sixty six. Yeah, all right,
let us know what you think of the dip options.
Send us dip recipes. We'll make them.
Speaker 2 (48:44):
Yeah, I think I'm I think the next time we
all get together, I might I might whip something.
Speaker 1 (48:49):
Yeah, I'm gonna make it. I made one last year.
It was really good. I want to bring it back
for maybe some of the new people who were like,
what what dips do they even make? I got a
lot of letters about that.
Speaker 3 (48:59):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (49:00):
Did someone do the classic freaking velveto rotel last year?
Speaker 3 (49:05):
No? I don't think someone should.
Speaker 1 (49:07):
I did that. Weird. You can make that in the microwave, baby,
I did that weird. Spicy fredo being lasted. It was
actually pretty good.
Speaker 3 (49:18):
You like the cool ranch one though, didn't you?
Speaker 2 (49:23):
Did? You guys both get that at different times?
Speaker 1 (49:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (49:27):
I got it later as a bit I was like, you, guys,
believe the what I got because Chuck made such a
stink out of how bad it was.
Speaker 1 (49:35):
I kind of had a bad dip season last year
because I also had that really shitty salcea I grabbed that.
It was like apple saucea. That was terrible. All right,
let us know what dips you would like us to review.
Send us your family dip recipes. We'll make them. Get
out us to at Clippers Potter Act Clippers podcast on YouTube.
We're gonna be back next week with draft talk, because hey,
(49:58):
anyone we bring up could made be drafted as low
as the Clippers are. Should be a good time. Probably
gonna do a mail bag. Send your questions in. We'll
do a mail bag if you have any questions about
free agents just re listening to this episode, we probably
answered all of them. Will where can people now that
(50:19):
we're really getting to the nitty gritty Now that we're
you know, it's more of a tactile pod with the
with the dips and everything. Where can people share their
dip recipes if they want.
Speaker 2 (50:28):
Yeah, look, I'm now is definitely the time to be
following this show. The off season. That's what you tune
in for. Really, I mean the rest of the stuff,
it's just it's noise, you know, it's space. But you
can check the show out wherever you listen to your podcasts,
if you happen to listen over on Apple Podcasts, Spotify,
if you leave a little radi and review definitely helps
us out the best way to watch this show. You
(50:50):
can see these dips in color, in in in the
flesh or whatever in the new overright YouTube.
Speaker 3 (50:59):
Not look at that warm salmon, guys. Check it out.
Speaker 4 (51:03):
You can actually smell it on the YouTube.
Speaker 2 (51:07):
But yeah, however you listeningever you watch, you know we
appreciate it. We absolutely do more now more than ever
on Yeah.
Speaker 1 (51:15):
Yeah, you're a real one if you're watching the off season,
and let us know if you remember everything anything about
the movie sixty five Adam. It is the off season,
but we still need it, man, we still need the
Adam Oslin one positive thing. Uh, you got anything at
this point in the off season, you.
Speaker 3 (51:33):
Know, at worst the Clippers got beat by a team
that has taken a sixty eight win team to six games,
or is taking them to seven, or is winning in seven.
Those are all three things are options, and I don't
know my opinion. That kind of changes the outlook on
this Clippers team. And maybe it wasn't as disappointing. Denver's
(51:57):
really good.
Speaker 1 (51:58):
Yeah, still incredibly disappointment, Maybe not as so.
Speaker 3 (52:02):
I think that's not as far away as I felt
after they lost, you know, not as far away. That
was an abortion. That was different.
Speaker 1 (52:15):
It's different. All right. That wraps up. I hope everyone
has a good weekend. Let us know what dips you
get into, and yeah, we'll be back next week and
as always, let's go Clips.
