I do think last year we saw a similar thing

what the takeaways were, and honestly, the biggest takeaway is
I still think brook Lopez is the most underrated acquisition

of the offseason. Uh, he was absolutely phenomenal in his

which I think is a testament that's bad, that's not

to a team that is projected to be so bad

I mean, like the Jazz being projected to be the
worst team in the league. Yes, and I mean obviously

it's just based on reputation, and I think reputationally like
they looked, they looked a lot. The Jazz looked a

lot better than the Clippers did through one game. Do
I think that that means that that's gonna have any
bearing on the ultimate effects of the outcome of the season. No,
I'm not ready to say that after one game. But
this was this was the type of performance that you know,
we've become sort of accustomed to as Clippers fans. I mean,

and it happens to all teams, but for this to
be the season opener and to just look this disjointed,
especially on the defensive end, I'm giving it up. What's
seventy five at the half? Seventy six at the half? Is?
I mean, that is just an unprecedented level of bad

uh to start the season. And again, I don't you
can't overreact to one single game, but you know, we
we worried in the offseason. We worried in the offseason
about this team maintaining that that sort of identity that
they had created last year. And I would say through
Game one, they fucking threw it out the window.

play good defense. We started Derek Jones juniors and the
defense would be good, but no one was good at
defense to start this game. Bill losses a side in
a couple of times. He swiped it guys a couple
of times. He wasn't the whole problem, obviously, but that
was just kind of frustrating. It also seems like Beale's

minutes restriction is around twenty minutes, which I think is fine.
The turnovers were brutal. Nine turnovers in the first quarter,
I think, and like turnovers, turnovers in any way you
could have a turnover.

like it did feel like Utah couldn't miss a shot.

speaks to the defense not really putting that much pressure
on guys or not making them.

after that, I was like, what does this team's offense
look like when it needs to speed up? For the Clippers?
What right? Yeah, with these older guys, it's like, what
does this offense look like when they're like, we gotta

like and if the defense is not getting stops, I
don't have a lot of faith in the offense. I'm
not projecting what the Clippers record is going to be
or anything like that. I'm just saying that's what I
was thinking watching this particular game.

I mean, that was a huge thing, and it was
you know, how they would get started offensively, even when
they were abysmal.

great obviously, but again, he's not taking eleven threes in

how I think the bench offense would function normally. Yeah,
save like the first couple of minutes they were together.
But I dude, Collins off the bench was awesome, Like
his effort was there, like he's gonna be him and

brook Lopez. Maybe they do split six Man of the
Year votes or whatever, But like, I love Collins off
the bench and Collins energy off the bench. But Tom
hit Collins with like a like a handoff in transition
I think for his like second or third bucket, and
it was just such a nice, like veteran guy making
a veteran move to a guy who like expected I

think at the last second. So I think Collins Collins
on the bench is real. I think Collins with any
of the vets on the bench is gonna be awesome.

One bad thing I'm worried about is the turnovers. Yeah, yeah,
I don't want him to come in bunches. That would
be ideal, Yeah, would not be ideal on Friday in
the first is that ideal? The Suns starting line up
because Jalen Green, I think, is out, So their starting

lineup might be hold on, I swear I have notes
on this. I want I just want to see Zoo
and Harden look good. Yeah, like I want them to
be productive together. You know what I'm saying? What's Yeah,

Man, I don't want to lose the fucking Sons at
home on our first thing. And I know that's like
a very broad general.

So here's their starting five. Their starting five is going
to be I think Devin Booker, Grayson Allen, Dylan Brooks,
Ryan Dunn, Mark Williams. Apparently the Jazz are the best
team in the NBA. Right They're probably gonna win like
sixty five games, seventy seventy seventy six games. A chap

but fear, but again, this is also a team. The
Sons are a team that's been projected to be not good.
They handled us last year in the regular season. This
is another game where it's like we don't know what's
going to happen. We know what statistically probably should happen. Uh,

but I don't know. I want to see Christine be
good at defense. I want to see him put point
Devin Booker in hell, because they don't have a point
guard really on the suns. That's the other things, like
we're facing a team that is trying to do what
the Clippers did with Paul George. When we were all like,
I don't know if we need a point guard, then
it was like he sucks at facilitating, Like.

Sometimes you just see the point guard. I was wrong
about that.

got caught up in the moment.

from this one.

factor was not there for the Clippers tonight, and.

Sure, yeah, I think Zoo was the most inspiring of
starting five, was our leading scorer. But yes, I agree,
it felt very laxadaisical. It felt like the kind of
thing that we've become accustomed to in this.

Era except year, which is why I think it's doubly
frustrating because they showed up and again the game one.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
I do think last year we saw a similar thing
to start the season. Uh Like it was a very
disappointing start to the season before they righted the ship.
Uh And this one, I mean, honestly, you asked me
what the takeaways were, and honestly, the biggest takeaway is
I still think brook Lopez is the most underrated acquisition

of the offseason. Uh, he was absolutely phenomenal in his
u In his sub twenty minutes he.

Took eleven threes and seventeen minutes he took twelve shots total,
which I think is a testament that's bad, that's not
what the game plan is.

That's as many shots. I think he's Harden, isn't it.

That is as many field goals as Harden, and it
is three more than Kawhi Leonard, who was not good
in game one. Miles Johnson saying Zua's friend is on defense.
I will agree with that. It was arough. Maybe not
to a t, but it was a rough defensive showing
early in this game we saw they lost. No.

Two wasn't perfect, Yeah, and Zoo wasn't perfect. I wasn't
saying that by any means. I mean he like I
thought his rebounding was pretty soft. He let some slip
right through his fingers. But I thought that he did
bring like some sort of some energy and stuff that
was not present I didn't feel.

Yes, Uh, Kawhi marketing was their small forward. Marketing is gigantic.
He shoots threes, but he did whatever he kind of wanted,

I've been excited for basketball. The restart from what feels
like a calendar were so.

Beale looked like he was still figuring it out. Defensively,
he was in foul trouble. Derek Jones was in foul trouble. Yeah,
Harden made two mid range buckets. That was that was nice,

The shooting was rough. Someone in the chat is saying
shooting yeah, couldn't make a damn shot. Thank you Jeremy Mormon.
Eighty one and one. Maybe that's what I said. So
we go eighty one and one? Did this loss? What

do we take away from this loss? What can we
take away from the first game of the season losing
to a team that is projected to be so bad
in such a fashion? Is this team? Because this is
a young Jazz team, we were old tonight some nights
we're gonna have old nights for the Clippers, and we were.

I mean, like the Jazz being projected to be the
worst team in the league. Yes, and I mean obviously
they're they're going to continue to seek a high draft pick.
But it's a little bit like college football season rankings
coming in, like it doesn't really mean anything. It's it's
it's just based on reputation, and I think reputationally like
they looked, they looked a lot. The Jazz looked a

lot better than the Clippers did through one game. Do
I think that that means that that's gonna have any
bearing on the ultimate effects of the outcome of the season. No,
I'm not ready to say that after one game. But
this was this was the type of performance that you know,
we've become sort of accustomed to as Clippers fans. I mean,

and it happens to all teams, but for this to
be the season opener and to just look this disjointed,
especially on the defensive end, I'm giving it up. What's
seventy five at the half? Seventy six at the half? Is?
I mean, that is just an unprecedented level of bad

uh to start the season. And again, I don't you
can't overreact to one single game, but you know, we
we worried in the offseason. We worried in the offseason
about this team maintaining that that sort of identity that
they had created last year. And I would say through
Game one, they fucking threw it out the window.

crime side. We need everyone to underestimate us, miss and accomplishment,

we hope that what we heard about in the off

No one would knock you for that. If you were

Friday and do what we're supposed to do, which is
play good defense. We started Derek Jones juniors and the
defense would be good, but no one was good at
defense to start this game. Bill losses a side in
a couple of times. He swiped it guys a couple
of times. He wasn't the whole problem, obviously, but that
was just kind of frustrating. It also seems like Beale's

minutes restriction is around twenty minutes, which I think is fine.
The turnovers were brutal. Nine turnovers in the first quarter,
I think, and like turnovers, turnovers in any way you
could have a turnover.

Like, oh yeah, they really had the full menu.

They had like a Midwest what was the final what
was the final turnover count.

On this one? They had a Midwestern cookbook called one
Thousand Ways to Do a Turnover. It's a pretty good cooking,
pretty good cooking jack. Final tally on turnovers fifteen, Okay,
but the majority of them happened in the first quarter,

and it was lazy passes, as Jeremy Moore want to say.
And it was just like.

Not a lot of heat on those paths.

I could have caught one of the passes, maybe that's
not a fast enough pass. I have been him. It's
like it did feel like Utah couldn't miss a shot.

It's if it's not smashing through my hands and breaking.

My fucking glasses. Walker Kessler all of last year, the
whole year last year, made six three pointers. He shot
eighteen percent from three. Tonight he goes two for two. Goofy.
Weird thing to happen. It happened in the first quarter.

So it was yeah, but and it was part of
the swell of just like, oh great, this weird anomaly
happens in the beginning when we're still apparently getting our
under us. It adds to the fact that everyone else
was hitting too. It was like a perfect storm of
just shit. Yeah, it wasn't just one guy going off.

I mean we talked about like how uh sphee even
like what like he looked great out there, and not
that he's a bad player or anything, but like it
speaks to the defense not really putting that much pressure
on guys or not making them.

Feel uncomfortable or out of their element at all.

And yes, they were at home, so you know everyone's
getting a big soda thet night or whatever. Uh.

Crime side ring up a good point, And Adam and
I talked about this on the pregame a little bit.
Is like they're huge, they shrunk the floor. Uh yeah,
and our guys aren't guys that have speed. H Like
that's not because I was wondering when the Clippers were

down ten in the first when I guess things were
going good considering now the rest of the game went
after that, I was like, what does this team's offense
look like when it needs to speed up? For the Clippers?
What right? Yeah, with these older guys, it's like, what
does this offense look like when they're like, we gotta
get some quick buckets because that is completely dependent on

the defense, not to you know what I mean, but
like and if the defense is not getting stops, I
don't have a lot of faith in the offense. I'm
not projecting what the Clippers record is going to be
or anything like that. I'm just saying that's what I
was thinking watching this particular game.

I mean, that was a huge thing, and it was
you know, how they would get started offensively, even when
they were abysmal.

In games last season.

But you know, again, it's game one, so I don't
want to take too much away defensively from that, not
that there's much to take away from that one at all.
I'm curious though, Like I mean, I think we both
agree that the starters.

I don't want to say apathetic, because I don't think
that's the right word, but they felt a little anemic
out there. Yeah, what did you think of the second

Yeah, I mean, I was kind of disgusted by the
whole thing, So I don't know if anything really stuck
out to me, If that makes sense, I understand. I
just wanted to. I was really looking forward to seeing
Chris Paul and brook Lopez. I mean, brook Lopez was
great obviously, but again, he's not taking eleven threes in

the game, so like we didn't even get to see
how I think the bench offense would function normally. Yeah,
save like the first couple of minutes they were together.
But I dude, Collins off the bench was awesome, Like
his effort was there, like he's gonna be him and

brook Lopez. Maybe they do split six Man of the
Year votes or whatever, But like, I love Collins off
the bench and Collins energy off the bench. But Tom
hit Collins with like a like a handoff in transition
I think for his like second or third bucket, and
it was just such a nice, like veteran guy making
a veteran move to a guy who like expected I

think at the last second. So I think Collins Collins
on the bench is real. I think Collins with any
of the vets on the bench is gonna be awesome.

brought up a point with Zoo. Yeah, the Jazz I
think in the first quarter they made Yeah, they made
all of their two pointers. So when Zoo gets I
don't know, man, it's just like shit was just broken everywhere.
You're right, Miles, when you pull Zoo away from the rim,

if other guys aren't doing what they're supposed to do,
it's just like and that goes to Kawhi's point too,
because Kawhi again was not good in this game. No,
Harden only had two turnovers, so we can't really fault
the turnovers. The shooting wasn't there from Harden from the outside.
He wasn't particularly efficient. I think he was overall he

was facilitating, right, Yeah, he was facilitating phenomenally. But again,
it's just like looked a.

But like, you know, he saves his way into shape,

And we are an older team, so like this is

these guys aren't young coming into the coming into the
season feeling good. When you're a young guy in the NBA,
is I'm ready to play in mid season? For him?

From day one, coming into when you're an old guy
in the NBA, is I'm excited for a productive ramp
up process.

Yeah, And I mean I don't know, like before before
they start doing stuff to alter their pickstanding, I think
you want to show get out there and show what

show what you can do, and like, you know, stack
of a couple of wins before you know, those mystery
whatever marketing for Yeah, start keeping out of games and stuff,
because that's gonna be frustrating as hell too.

The worst team in the league. I mean, I mean,
you want to kind of put a stamp on it, right,

bad thing from this game that you're worried about for
Friday and one good thing that you're excited for on Friday.

One bad thing I'm worried about is the turnovers. Yeah, yeah,
I don't want him to come in bunches. That would
be ideal, Yeah, would not be ideal on Friday in
the first is that ideal? The Suns starting line up
because Jalen Green, I think, is out, So their starting

lineup might be hold on, I swear I have notes
on this. I want I just want to see Zoo
and Harden look good. Yeah, like I want them to
be productive together. You know what I'm saying? What's Yeah,
what's a bad thing? You're worried about it?

Man, I don't want to lose the fucking Sons at
home on our first thing. And I know that's like
a very broad general.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
You don't want to see that.

So here's their starting five. Their starting five is going
to be I think Devin Booker, Grayson Allen, Dylan Brooks,
Ryan Dunn, Mark Williams. Apparently the Jazz are the best
team in the NBA. Right They're probably gonna win like
sixty five games, seventy seventy seventy six games. A chap

but fear, but again, this is also a team. The
Sons are a team that's been projected to be not good.
They handled us last year in the regular season. This
is another game where it's like we don't know what's
going to happen. We know what statistically probably should happen. Uh,

but I don't know. I want to see Christine be
good at defense. I want to see him put point
Devin Booker in hell, because they don't have a point
guard really on the suns. That's the other things, like
we're facing a team that is trying to do what
the Clippers did with Paul George. When we were all like,
I don't know if we need a point guard, then
it was like he sucks at facilitating, Like.

You need a point guard.
Speaker 1 (24:37):
Sometimes you just see the point guard. I was wrong
about that.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
I was wrong too. We were wrong. We boozled, We
got caught up in the moment.

In the moment, all right, you gotta take your taco
bell inside. Yeah, man, all right, I can van for
a bit if you want to hop back on. But
if not, I understand.

All right, Yeah, I'm gonna go eat My feelings from
this game. The thing I'm looking forward to though, is more.
Is definitely more, brook Lopez. That was my biggest takeaway
from this one.

I'm loving it. I can't wait to see more.

I also think Bradley Beal is gonna is gonna have
some some added impetus. Yeah, he's gonna have some added
impetus to pour it on him as one. Although two

four from three, I guess would be concerned. But eat anyway,

even that, it's kind of like you make one extra three,
it's a completely different ball It's a completely.

Well, a completely different ballgame. Frankly, they're right in at
that point.

I kept waiting for the like someone to hit a

get those classic moments.

But I will say, I can only go up from here,
