Speaker 1 (00:09):
What is going on?
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Clippers fans that might have cut off the intro? What's
going on? Clippers fan? I am Chuck Mockler joy by
Adam Oslon and William Updyke. We are doing a happy
hour live of clips and dip not.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Where did you get this spooky font for the names?
Speaker 2 (00:28):
I got the spooky font from our fantastic streaming platform, Restream,
which never has issues and always works. Josephry Award, how
the heck are you?
Speaker 3 (00:39):
Guys?
Speaker 4 (00:40):
I literally have three seconds. I've got one take. Let's go,
I've got one take. I think hear me out. Pablo
Torre either lost several thousand dollars betting on the Clippers
or Kawhi Leonard fucked his wife. The one of the
(01:02):
two has to be what happened here because this is
the most insane thing. Now Tyler is implicated. What's going on?
Speaker 3 (01:10):
Guys?
Speaker 5 (01:12):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:13):
I thought you were just gonna cut to black after that.
Speaker 5 (01:15):
No, I wish, I wish.
Speaker 4 (01:17):
I'm driving, I can't. The production value was a little
difficult when I'm driving.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Sure we can get out of the way.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
We're gonna talk about the Clippers two and two records
and the game against the Pelicans in a second.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
But since we're on topic.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Since we're on the topic, Look, we've talked about this before.
I have a lot of respect for publatory. Obviously, he's
a great journalist. I don't get why he's like he
thinks this is all the president's men. He's like, on
is Bob Woodward right now? But way way less well
dressed than uh Robert Redford's version from from set film.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
He said some quote the tweet.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
That's funny is there was one where someone basically asked, like,
what are you going for here? And he said the ruth.
It's like, great, it seems like you're stringing together a lot.
Speaker 4 (02:04):
Of He just wants to be right at this point.
He really wants to be right. He wants to be
proven right. He also needs to be right because if
he's not right, he potentially could be sued by Steve
Balmer and the Clippers. So there's some things in there
(02:24):
that he needs to be right on.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
That's right.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
With some of the Taylo stuff, it's like we're getting
kind of into libel grounds with some of the Tyler reporting.
Speaker 5 (02:34):
Sorry go ahead now, I was gonna say I think
initially maybe he was just going for the truth that
sure came across that way, and then Mark Cuban and
him got into it, and now the Clippers are caught
in the middle, and it feels like a pissing contest, and.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
Yes, exactly what it feels like.
Speaker 5 (02:56):
Now. I will say this.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
The pissing contest is gonna be Clippers fans piss is
getting on someone's pant leg fan in this pissing contest.
Speaker 4 (03:10):
Unfortunately, so too many, too many to be some splash.
Speaker 5 (03:17):
There's some splash somewhere. Elite partitions though, fantastic.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
Okay, the Clipper. That's all we're saying about Pablo Tory,
unless he wants to come on the pod, in which
case I'll watch Adam yell at him for three hours.
Speaker 5 (03:34):
I wouldn't yell at him. He did start following me
recently after I went after him in one show, and
I thought maybe something would happen with that, but I can't.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
You got a message him, Did you gotta open the
line of communication?
Speaker 5 (03:48):
Hey, I'm good that then the NBA gambling thing happens.
I don't know. I took issue with one thing that
I thought he was willfully off base with. But you
know this, this stuff coming out today. Yeah, it does
seem more personal the longer this goes on.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Come on, all right, thank you for joining the live.
We're gonna put this recording out later. If you ever
want to get into the lives, check us out at
YouTube dot com Slash at Clippers podcast. The Clippers are
two and two. People are kind of freaking out despite
it being four games. Bradley Beal will be back against
(04:34):
the Pels tomorrow, which is awesome. It's much needed obviously
if you watch the last game. How are we feeling
after two and two? Adam, You've been in the trenches
defending the fact that it's only been four games.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
Which I think is fair.
Speaker 5 (04:50):
No, it needed defending, but apparently it does.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Do we think that just like basketball aside will? Do
you think that the just the horrible letdown that Game
seven was has kind of warped how some of these
early season results are being digested?
Speaker 3 (05:10):
No, I don't think so. This is like part for
the course.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
I mean, you know a lot of people came into
this with some expectations. You know, we we finished the
fifty wins last year. I would say that you know,
this is a better roster in terms of you know,
addressing some of the flaws and weaknesses.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
It is pretty normal to a want to.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
See results right away and be to take away some
pretty like take some pretty liberal takeaways from a very
small sample size.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
So like, I'm not surprised by that at all. I mean,
that last.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
Game was completely disappointing, but every team is going to
lay a stinker like that at some point early in
the season, and maybe the Clippers are just sort of
getting it out of their system, getting the out of
their systems.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
They got the old Yeah, they got the third guy.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
Sure, Yeah, I mean the the last game was tough.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
They couldn't hit a shot, which was their main problem.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
Yeah, Like, we're okay, except for the transition defense. The
transition defense is twenty seventh of the league, which is
not good. But again four games and also not a
huge surprise, right, Adam.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
This team is old. It's not like anyone came into
the season thinking their transition defense is going to be elite.
Speaker 5 (06:35):
No. Last year, I think they were middle of the pack,
and you would take that considering the age of the
team if they end up there this season, but are
able to at least focus in a little bit more
on the playoffs. What happened the last four games against
Denver in transition was tough, right. I The flaws are
(06:55):
going to be there now. The league has gotten even faster,
so the Clippers weakness being transition defense, could be more
embossed than what it was before. It could stick out
even more because everybody else is playing faster after what
happened last year with the OKC Thunder and the Pacers
(07:16):
and the pace they were playing at with both of
them getting to the finals, and everybody sees that, oh,
we can catch you off guard. You know, a lot
of teams were playing very good half court defense. This
is how we're going to make up the difference. When
it's tough to score out there, We'll get some easy
ones in transition. So that's troublesome for the Clippers, and
some of the effort has been poorror so far on
that end, definitely, But we've also had two blowouts, which
(07:40):
scuse a lot of the numbers. I would say there
are two different types of blowouts. I thought the Jazz
game they were just doa and then against the Golden
State Warriors, they got down in battle back. They were
down fifteen and they were up three at the half,
so and then they just continue to shoot the ball
poorly and there's not a lot you can do about
that when you're getting decent looks and you just can't
(08:02):
knock them down. There are nights like that. Their defense
gave up ninety eight points. You give up ninety eight
points at Golden State, you would assume you'd win that game.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
Great call. I also.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Like, I don't know they were two and two last year.
After four, it doesn't matter, like the four games ample
size we.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
Have now the time to worry about five hundred ball
is that that's where they're looking at the All Star.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
Break, right. Yeah, if we're playing bad, then some of
the good things that have been happening is Kawhi is
moving incredibly well. There's some fatigue issues. Tylo said in
the Golden State game him and Harden had to They
(08:47):
just both got tired at the same time. So that's
why we had that stretch where there was no hardened
Kawhi or Zoo on the floor.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
But I was also tired.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
I think, yeah, eight PM game for these guys and
roster crunch, it's an old team. Beal being out is
a big deal. He's there to be a safety valve
or relief valve, I guess is a better term for Harden,
so he doesn't have to sit that off.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
But but I.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
Mean, like Kawhi' is moving well, it's it's encouraging. And
that game, like you said, Adam, they shot so bad.
The reason they had so few assists was because no
one could hit a damn bucket. It's not because the
ball wasn't moving.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
I do gotta say, though, Adam, I'm curious your thoughts
on this. Skill wise, Beal is a great fill in
for no uh, even an.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
Upgrade and like a ball handling thing.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
But when you look at the availability, considering how much
we needed Norm last year, does that give you any
long term concerns about the offense for this regular season?
Speaker 5 (09:55):
It does, especially he so he played fifty three games
each of the last two years for the Phoenix Cents
on the Dot and he's thirty two now. Norm had
his own injury issues at times, of course, and right
the timing of it is the difference. Norm was healthy
(10:16):
to start off last season. Obviously Kawhi wasn't there and
Norm was huge and had a career year and then
needed everything from him. If bio wasn't out early on
to start this season, and we're thankful he's coming back
against the Pelicans. I think it would look much differently.
It's just the fact that it already feels like, well,
(10:38):
he's older, he's had injury issues, and he's missed two
games already. But I think the fact that they had
two days off after the Golden State game and now
that he's now he's available for the Pelicans game, that
tells you this was somewhat planned. They knew he'd get
a little extra time. So I'm not overly concerned. And
(10:58):
this type of injury, it has nothing to do with
the Nie scope that he had back in May. Was
he got banged up by playing good defense against Phoenix.
So I'm not overly concerned. But what you would just
hope is they would have a better replacement strategy right now,
and they haven't because Bogey's played so poorly, and it's
(11:20):
been going back to the Denver series where he just
hasn't looked the same. And I think it's a real
low confidence going off with Bobdanovich right now.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
And no preseason like he's he's playing himself back into shape,
not excusing his poor shooting, because if you're gonna do
one thing good for that's what we need you to
do if you're Bogie. But yeah, he's his preseason was
Game one. Yeah, like starting, which is not what he's
supposed to do at all. He needs to hit those shots,
(11:51):
for sure. It was nice he got some reps at
the end of the Golden State game for like he got.
Speaker 5 (11:57):
Off the snide, right, That's exactly what happened against Denver.
He didn't make a shot the first two games, blow
out Denver in Game three and Bogie comes in late
and finally gets a shot to fall. It didn't manifest
into him going off the rest of the series though,
But obviously we're in the regular season and hopefully that
gives him some confidence for the next time he's out there.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
Yeah, how have we felt about hard Still feels like
I put this on notes the system is booting up
a bit, and again this is where you miss someone
like Beale to help him take some time off.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
But for I mean, he kept us the Clippers in
the game against Golden State.
Speaker 5 (12:38):
Yeah, so I think he's been pretty good overall. His
driving ability has been there. He had what the twenty
six point first half against Phoenix.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
Was it uh getting to the basket against Golden State?
I was like, oh, this is great, Like I could
see why he's tired for an older guy who does
usually drive that much, but he was forcing the issue
at the rim, which was cool.
Speaker 5 (13:06):
Yeah. I think honestly, a lot of guys individually have
looked good in spurts. It just hasn't all come together
yet with consistency throughout quarters and looking like a cohesive
unit on either end of the floor.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
But four games, four games, I mean, it is just
four games. Will how you felt about take the Warriors'
rotation situation out of it where Kawhi, Harden and Zoo
were all off the floor, because I don't think Tyler
ever obviously wants to have to do that again.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
How have you felt about tie four games? Basketball wise?
Strictly on court thoughts?
Speaker 3 (13:51):
Not in the realm of any green felt.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
There's no green felt within a mile of We're not
at Hollywood Park.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
I look, I think it's about as to be expected, right,
Like he's gonna feel these guys out there's I think
I'm gonna be watching a little bit more closely once
we have a longer sample size of beal in the
starting lineup. Uh, and he's actually like, like he can
play with things a little bit more within a framework
(14:23):
of what will actually be running out there, if that
makes sense.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
Sorry, someone's saying there's someone in the live comment saying,
can we just fast forward to going after Giannis?
Speaker 3 (14:36):
No, we can't. Why would we do that.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
I feel like there's this idea.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
I'm maybe I should hold off.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
Can we all learn anything from this last era? Can
we be done chasing thirty year old superstars?
Speaker 1 (14:51):
Like, let's well, can we just let some shit happen?
It's week one. They play their fifth game tomorrow. Yes,
it's against an opponent that's worse than we are and
has historically ruined our days, So it might be a
weird game, which we will get to later.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
But four games, it's I don't know, man.
Speaker 5 (15:15):
Yeah, everyone overreacted. They got blown out by Utah. Everybody
overreacted and said we're old, we're slow. And then they
beat two teams. It did, but then they beat two
teams that played faster than them, in Phoenix and Portland,
who were younger, And then they had a really cold
(15:37):
shooting night against the Golden State Warriors where their defense
played pretty well, but they couldn't hit shots. That's all
that's happened so far. This is long term. I think
they're still in decent shape. The fact that Bradley Beal's
already coming back is huge for this team. Right if
(15:58):
they win over the Pelic and then split the next
two games after that with OKAC coming to town, you're okay,
you still have a chance to start off seven and
three of the first ten games.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
It's still there.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
I'd take it.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
And you know what has been, There's still also some
really good things. There's guys. Chris Dunn has.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
Been so good. He was so good in that Warriors game.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
John Collins, I mean, elite like these two guys off
the bench is unreal. We can talk about the starting
lineup a little bit too, in terms of maybe some
shuffling with that, but I don't think that'll happen because
we haven't exactly seen the fully healthy starting line up.
Speaker 5 (16:40):
I love somebody in here. Do you honestly see the
Cliffs being okay? Sere Denver?
Speaker 3 (16:45):
It's like.
Speaker 5 (16:48):
They went seven against Denver and easily could have won
that series. So yes, OKAYC is a different type of
challenge for everyone. They are the defending champs, they're younger
and getting better, so everybody, every team should just forget
the season. That's who the.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
Defense for the Thunder is. I wonder if there's gonna
be a change post All Star Break like there was.
Speaker 3 (17:16):
That's what Congress should be asking for a probe.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
Yeah, exactly, do we think Chris Dunn or Colin slips
into the starting role at any point?
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Also? Wait, sorry, that feels ahead of it. We do
need to just shout them out for how good they've
been to start the season.
Speaker 3 (17:36):
It's been so nice to watch.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
Chris Dun play defense again for this team. Was surprised
he didn't start for Golden State.
Speaker 5 (17:46):
Yeah, I uh, I thought he was going to start
that game after he started the second half against Portland
instead of Bogee. But coach lou is trying to build
up Bogee's confidence. They need him long term. You can't
just give up on a guy who's only played two
games so far. That's absurd because at some point they're
(18:08):
gonna have guys out. There's gonna be back to backs,
guys are gonna be Dane.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
Du wait is now we have guys out now?
Speaker 5 (18:14):
Sure? All I problem is Bogey came in, as you mentioned,
without a preseason, and maybe that's contributing to his shooting woes.
But that next time something happens and guys are out,
they need Bogey to actually have some confidence in his shot.
This guy in here keeps spamming talking about beat two
horrible teams blown out by a horrible Utah team. This
(18:36):
just in. The Denver Nuggets lost twice to the Washington
Wizards last year with Jokis like it happens, guys, I'm
here to tell you this stuff happens in the league.
If you watch every other team as closely as you
watch the Clippers, you wouldn't be as shocked by them
losing to what's deemed as a bad team early in
the season. And we warned you Utah does have some
(18:58):
talent and they have no reason to take yet. So
I don't know, It's not the craziest thing in the world.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
And last year, like the Suns were sitting pretty at this.
Speaker 5 (19:08):
Yeah, they were not in one. I think the first
ten games.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
It we do have veterans which which will work it out.
Will have you felt about Zoo these first four games
the Viz, Yeah, I.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
Felt good overall, It's still not like a jump, but
I'm curious, like what other gear he really has at
this point in terms of like of development, And I.
Speaker 3 (19:37):
Think within the Clipper system.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
Within the Clipper Clipper system, and obviously part of that,
like at least on the offensive end, is going to
be tied to how Harden is playing. And I don't
think that we've seen peak there, so I think that
that is going to be a level to unlocking him.
Obviously offensively defensively.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
Has been good.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
I like, you know, the team has had some peaks
and valleys on that end of the floor.
Speaker 3 (20:05):
At times.
Speaker 1 (20:06):
I feel like he does still get like a little
disengaged as we've seen before, But I mean.
Speaker 3 (20:11):
He's overall been very solid. He's been rock solid.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
I think the offense kind of has been like a
little shaky on the tracks, but it felt like But.
Speaker 1 (20:21):
I do think that part of that is like his
running mate, who, like, I mean, you know, there is
no Zoo unlocked offensively if James Harden doesn't come to
this team. Uh, and so when he's not at peak,
I think that that makes sense.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
Adam, how do you feel about Zoo's first four games?
We're all we're all Zoo truthers on it, Like if
anyone who's listened to any of our work in the
last five six years, we are pro Zoo.
Speaker 5 (20:51):
Like anyone who's anti Zoo. At this point, it's looking
pretty bad. You were on the wrong side of history
to start, and it's pretty clear to everyone in the
NBA how good is now. I think he's been a
little bit spotty, but he's also so dependent on other
guys getting him involved. I don't know how to look
at when the overall offensive system isn't clicking throughout the
(21:14):
forty eight minutes consistently, Like if eats Zuobots is probably
going to be most affected by that because other guys
are going to have the ball in their hands, obviously
and be making those decisions out there, and he's obviously
not going to demand to give me the damn ball
like he's Keishawn Johnson, even though I would love that.
I think he's looked really good at times. He was
good against Portland. I was still frustrated because I felt
(21:36):
like when they went into that offensive lole in the
second quarter and they kept having all these turnovers, they
could have just spammed Zoo a lot and he ended
up with eight points in the quarter, felt like he
could have had fifteen. Portland was going small. So it's
still a work in progress with this team understanding what
they have and it beats to zoobots and how good
(21:57):
he is and how eight to score through him. But
you know, there's nothing concerning so far. It's just it's
a rhythm thing.
Speaker 2 (22:10):
Yeah, I like that. If anything, if there is, there's
obviously valid concerns for this team long term transition defense
stuff like that. Rhythm being the problem, I think is
a great way to look at what the Clippers issues are.
Speaker 4 (22:24):
Like.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
We're not saying that it's like a perfect team or
something like that, but I love what you said about rhythm,
where it's like, guy's gotta feel what it feels like
to play well together. And they haven't even had the healthy,
full roster for what it's gonna be, so we see
things like the turnovers have been horrid to start the season,
Like the turnovers have been they had I think it
(22:46):
was again first half though, exactly.
Speaker 3 (22:49):
So that's the thing.
Speaker 2 (22:50):
They come in bunches, right, three in the first quarter
against the Warriors, I think six in the second quarter
against the Warriors, like it. It's spiked with their turnovers,
which is and fair to be frustrated about. And when
you turn the ball over and you don't and you're
not getting back on defense, that's like a recipe for
(23:10):
how to not pass.
Speaker 1 (23:11):
The eye test.
Speaker 5 (23:13):
Yeah, and that's the Clippers' biggest weakness is their transition defense.
You're feeding into that when you're turning the basketball over.
And they had eight turnovers against Portland in that second
quarter when the game was looking like it was getting
out of hand. But this team also, going into the
game against the Golden State Warriors, had the best effective
(23:35):
fueld goal percentage in the league, I think the overall
best fueld goal percentage in the league, So you could
say they were due for a poor shooting night as well.
It's just that's why I can't put that much into it.
It's four games is nothing so far. You can't put
that much what into a dome?
Speaker 2 (23:55):
Go send us the check aspiration they are into it,
you better send that check. Yeah, turners are bad, Transition
defense has been bad.
Speaker 5 (24:09):
Let me tell you. They can blow out the Pelicans
tomorrow night, and I still can't put that much into it.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
I can't well, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (24:18):
Because it's the Pelicans specifically, I would feel like they
exercised some demails.
Speaker 3 (24:22):
All their issues are fixed.
Speaker 1 (24:24):
Yeah, if they blow the Pelicans out on Halloween, something
is going up and putting a cone of atonement over
the Clippers or something.
Speaker 5 (24:34):
You know what. A lot of these people are gonna say, though, Oh,
Pelicans are now zero to five, like you better beat them.
They're not going to give the Clippers any credit.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
Before we get into the Pels stuff, how have we
felt about Chris Paul's performances so far?
Speaker 5 (24:53):
He's been shaky, he had turnover issues, he had issues
bringing it into the front court, which it was a
little bit alarming. But I still go back to what
I saw in the preseason with just how well he's moving.
If he's moving well, I'm not concerned long term. Now
preseason versus regular season, live bullets flying, and guy's actually
(25:15):
playing at a faster pace. That's different, so it could
be a shock to the system. But I still felt
really good. He knocked down those two big three pointers
against Portland in the fourth quarter. That was good to see.
Let's cep three and all these older guys maybe get
their sea legs here because that could also be a
(25:37):
little bit of what's happening. Kawhi I was asked about
that after the Golden State Warriors game and kind of
was like, yeah, it's part of it, so we'll see.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
I think with Chris Paul, obviously throughout his career and athletic,
lanky defender is gonna give him trouble. That's exacerbated when
you're you know, ninety eight years old in NBA years.
No disrespect to Chris Paul, that's just what he is.
With how athletic these teams are now and they're still
(26:06):
figuring the benchminutes out because that puts a crunch on
everyone else on the bench. Right if Chris Paul is
kind of having to make those early decisions or play
a little more cautious, it makes it difficult.
Speaker 5 (26:16):
But people asking like why is Bogey starting, It's like, guys,
because they don't want to disrupt the second unit because
Bogie was already out of the rotation, so you don't
have to pull someone from the second unit, which has
a domino effect of then with minutes. That's why it
makes a lot of sense. You can act like, oh,
they're being illogical, what's coach flu doing. No, there's a
(26:36):
lot of rationale going into this. You can make fun
of it because Bogie hasn't played well so far, but
in theory it makes a lot of sense. And I
with how good the second unit looked in the preseason
and everybody freaking out, and then immediately they have a
cup of bad game or two. It's like, oh, we
gotta change everything. I don't know. I just see that
(26:58):
a knee jerk reaction, and hey, I think Collins could
start tomorrow. I do because of Zion and what's happened
in the past.
Speaker 3 (27:06):
Oh you'll see.
Speaker 2 (27:07):
Will any final thoughts on these four games or anything
we've touched on before we get to the preview?
Speaker 3 (27:12):
Throw the baby out with the bathwater.
Speaker 1 (27:16):
You're saying, lean in, lean into what's happening, fire Ty, Yeah,
don't need the flack train, Croster start, Chris Paul, Yeah,
it's gonna be It's I shouldn't say it's going to
be okay, It's most likely going to be okay.
Speaker 5 (27:37):
This guy in here is saying Bogie's last nine games,
going back to the Denver series hasn't even looked like
an NBA player. Guess what he has a body of work.
That is going to say you're gonna give a guy
like that more than nine games to say he's washed.
You're going to give him a lot more time, especially
because right before that playoff series he shot fifty percent
from three for over a month.
Speaker 1 (27:59):
Also, that's not Yeah, that's not even a sixth of
what you would hope a player would play in a
regular season, let alone a career.
Speaker 2 (28:08):
Also, and this might be an insane a to B
to G that I'm doing here, but I think the
fact that Bogey started for the people who don't want
him to play more that like because they want to
keep the bench rotation solidified, right, so they started Bogie.
What does that tell you about Bogie's place in the
bench rotation? You know what I'm saying, for a fully
(28:30):
healthy roster, if Bogie's starting for these games where it's
like we just want him to get his rhythm back
and they're not concerned about having him in the bench rotation,
if you are anti Bogie in the long run, you
should feel okay, I guess because it doesn't seem like
they're prioritizing him getting consistency with the main bench unit.
Speaker 5 (28:55):
And this guy is saying, well, you don't want them
to disrupt the second unit, but tomorrow Collins could be start. Yes,
I'm saying that because I believe coming into the season
it could be matchup dependent with Collins in DJ and
this might be one of those examples where you're taking
on Team Mike the Pelicans where you have to be
bigger in the front line. Maybe they don't have Jonas
(29:15):
Valance Unis is not there anymore, some young guys.
Speaker 2 (29:20):
Anybody could be on this roster.
Speaker 5 (29:23):
Well. The fact that I still love Zion and he's
playing right now means I wouldn't mind seeing John Collins
in the starting lineup, even if yes, that could disrupt
the second unit, because this is a unique circumstance where
you're going up against a guy who's just a monster
and has always hurt the Clippers on Halloween.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
Pretty spooky monster. All right, we're gonna do a quick
fake audio break where we're gonna be quiet for one
point three seconds, and then we're gonna come back and
talk about the matchup against the Peals, because we are
putting this out on audio, And if you'd like to
catch one of these live streams, go ahead and set
that alert for YouTube dot com at Clippers podcast audio
(30:02):
break and then Clippers versus Pels talk coming up in
three two one.
Speaker 3 (30:06):
All right, welcome back in.
Speaker 1 (30:07):
We didn't leave. If you're watching this over on YouTube
dot com, which it is of course live, so you
can hop in stream comment, do that, subscribe over there
and then you'll know whenever we're doing this.
Speaker 3 (30:17):
But anyways, we talked a little bit about to start.
Very disappointing.
Speaker 1 (30:21):
I think I think we've all never been more upset
with the Clippers start.
Speaker 3 (30:25):
Than we currently are.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
But now looking into the Clippers taking on the Pills, well,
Halloween night game. One thing that's not very scary. Clippers
have a fully healthy starting lineup depending on how you
look at it, well, scary for other teams. Not scary, Okay, man,
got it. I was like, wait, that does feel scary.
Speaker 3 (30:45):
Going up against the Pills who are.
Speaker 1 (30:47):
Zero and four, so they're bound to win one at
some point, Adam, do you think that's coming against the Clippers.
Speaker 5 (30:59):
I don't like this scenario. Halloween desperate team haven't won
yet going up against the team they have all the
confidence in the world against, because the Clippers are four
and twelve their last sixteen games against the Pelicans.
Speaker 3 (31:14):
I'm surprised. It's good.
Speaker 1 (31:15):
We've won four.
Speaker 5 (31:17):
Yeah, believe it or not. There was even one game
in there during the twenty three twenty four season where
they just blew them out in New Orleans and we
were all in shock when they were on that twenty
six and five run. Yeah, I'm concerned, but they've been
playing so poorly, and they don't have brandon Ingram, they
(31:37):
don't have yonas balance units. They're missing a lot of
the guys outside of Zion TJ McCollum, who used to
torch the Clippers torture them. Maybe the key is going
to be starting fast and making them feel like they're
not going to be able to stay in this ball game.
That's kind of how things have been going for the Pelicans.
(31:59):
They've been getting beat early.
Speaker 1 (32:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
You look at their graph on the the Basketball Reference,
you know, like the wind like the results graph. It's yes,
two very large red bars. I was looking in their
subreddit because I wanted to find some highlighted comments from
their subreddit postgame thread after their one twenty two to
(32:27):
eighty eight loss to the Nuggets, and these were just
some of the funny ones I found. It said, I
watched the team last year and that third quarter was
the worst quarter I've ever seen the team play. This
was by far the worst on court performance I have
seen from this complete uninjured group in the last five years.
We don't have the talent we think we do. Still
continue to get outwork out physical, and make the same mistakes,
(32:51):
so at least over there, they're not feeling good.
Speaker 5 (32:57):
I think they got blown out in that third quarter
or something like thirty nine to thirteen by Denver.
Speaker 1 (33:03):
They are starting, yes, Tobrian said, Clipper killer DeAndre Jordan
tomorrow and it is the NBA Cup they're starting if
I okay, how about this.
Speaker 2 (33:17):
I talked about Game seven leaving a bad taste in
people's mouths. That whole series that we lost. The DeAndre
Jordan minutes has very much left a bad taste in
my mouth. I would like to see us not lose
minutes against uh DeAndre Jordan.
Speaker 5 (33:34):
That would be good. The DeAndre Jordan Reggie Jackson game
from a couple of years ago was an all timer.
I know people are saying, you know, the Clippers can't
start fast. First of all, last season their first quarters
were much better. What were they up by against Portland
for the first quarter ten. They have shown it at times.
(33:57):
They they can do this, they just.
Speaker 3 (34:00):
They choose.
Speaker 5 (34:06):
I do think there's something to this if we want
to get back into starting lineup stuff, because who knows
what we'll see tomorrow. Chris Done in the game against
Phoenix turn that game back in the Clippers favor after
they were down by ten early with his defense, with
his tone setting. I think that was the game that
Patrick Beverley was at and he does the same thing
(34:28):
that Pat Bev used to do. Like you see a
guy out there playing that hard defensively, it kind of
inspires everybody else to play that hard. That's who Chris
Done is. And if at some point he's back into
the starting lineup because he's that concert reminder of how
you have to play to start games, I would not
be opposed to that either.
Speaker 2 (34:49):
Yeah, I wouldn't be mad at that. It might be interesting.
I wonder will do you think they'll do that for
beals first game?
Speaker 3 (34:58):
Why not?
Speaker 5 (34:58):
I think it's coming tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (34:59):
But yeah, yeah, I don't think it's coming on. I
see the logic on.
Speaker 3 (35:05):
Look for throw everything out the window, let's remake the formula.
Speaker 2 (35:10):
Do we think is John Collins more likely to start
over Chris Done, just size wise, because Zion, as much
as I love Chris Dune, Zion is a larger human
being than Chris Done. He's a larger human being than
most human beings.
Speaker 5 (35:22):
But I know Chad, he's lost weight, he still is
a force. Did you see the dunk on Wemby the
start off that game a few days ago?
Speaker 3 (35:31):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (35:31):
Yeah, I think John Collins is more likely to be
in the starting lineup. But again we do. We fall
into the trap all the time, putting so much into
the starting lineup and two's starting. Meanwhile, John Collins finished
that game out against the Portland Trail Blazers and was
great down the stretch, and everybody's like, they're not gonna
play him. He's only playing twenty five minutes a game.
(35:51):
No shit, When you get blown out twice, it turns
out the minutes are gonna be pretty skewed.
Speaker 2 (35:59):
Right, Oh, here's one start with Tom I can actually
maybe see them.
Speaker 5 (36:04):
Doing Sure, they just started him the second half against
Golden State.
Speaker 2 (36:08):
Why not shout out x Bongo Project, who's always in
lives and I feel like he's been watching us for
a while, So I appreciate that. Yeah, I could see
him starting with tune Zion averages twenty two, six and
six versus the Clippers. De Pels are twenty ninth in
offensive rating and twenty ninth in defensive rating. Granted it
has only been four games.
Speaker 5 (36:32):
They're gonna be bottom ten in both those categories at
the end of the year.
Speaker 3 (36:36):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (36:38):
Jeremiah Fears is a guy who seems very good at
scoring two point buckets, not so much scoring three point buckets.
It is Halloween, it is the Pelicans.
Speaker 5 (36:50):
So.
Speaker 2 (36:54):
Shit, so that will They're twenty second in transition points
per game and twenty fifth and pace. Do you think
they just try and sprint against us to open this one?
Is it that crazy of a strategy if you're another
team and just be like, what if we just tried
to play as fast as possible?
Speaker 3 (37:12):
I mean, if you got the legs what you know,
Like why.
Speaker 2 (37:15):
They do they got pool?
Speaker 3 (37:16):
Right? Fears? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (37:18):
Like why not poke at something that's you know, gonna
be a glaring weakness for another team? Anything you can
do to get an advantage, especially because as Adam said,
like you know, they get out to they get routed
kind of early, and then there's not much you can do.
Like if if there's something that they can do just
to flip a switch or change something, I don't know
why you wouldn't. Does that mean they're going to completely
change their style of play? I kind of doubt it,
(37:40):
but I mean certainly, like if you know, if I'm
in that coaching staff, I'm like, play a different style
of play as fast as possible.
Speaker 2 (37:48):
Yeah, they don't seem to be in They don't seem
to be can I say this respectfully locked into any
particularly effective offensive system right now? So if you are Pels,
it's like DeAndre just to hang out under the basket,
will just run fly routes.
Speaker 5 (38:06):
I think the only way the Clippers lose this game
is if they let the Pells get hot from three
early and Jordan Poole is just going unconscious, Yeah, which
could happen, and turning the ball right right, those two
things could go together. They're walking into three pointers because
they got the Clippers entrant in the rotation, because they're
(38:28):
in scramble mode after live ball turnovers, and the Pills
are just walking into three pointers like that. If you
give them confidence earlier, you're gonna be in trouble and
in for a long night.
Speaker 2 (38:38):
Pool came off the bench versus the Nuggets, which I thought.
Speaker 3 (38:43):
I mean, I don't really know.
Speaker 2 (38:45):
I don't think him playing and the starting lineup would
have particularly affected the outcome of that. But him off
the bench versus this Clippers bench is interesting just from
an age perspective.
Speaker 3 (38:56):
But we do have done. I was assuming off the
bench to handle Pool.
Speaker 5 (39:01):
Yeah. I you also, you gotta cut off the head
of the snake, which is Zion. If he just starts
bulling the Clippers right away, good luck. What you're saying, well,
the headless Zion Williamson, that's even more terrifying.
Speaker 2 (39:19):
Yeah right, Yeah, I want to see a big game
from Zoo. D flu is saying he's been seeing a
lot of shrugging from Zoo. I don't know if I
necessarily agree with that. He is not one of the
best body language artists on the team. No poker face,
no poker face. Yeah, I'll tell you what. He might
have a case against Tyleru if he lost some poker games,
(39:42):
But I think I don't think it because it is
cool to see a very dominant game. This is a
game where like all of the guys should be able
to put on a dominant display of what they're good at.
Speaker 5 (39:57):
And I mean, what's the Pelicans id entity? What is
their identity? I have no idea what type of team
they are. They're based around Zion while he's available in
the court.
Speaker 3 (40:08):
But even large winged bird elegance aren't scavengers.
Speaker 5 (40:17):
They're looking for loose balls. Scavengers looking for loose balls
with the Clippers.
Speaker 3 (40:28):
I like this quote.
Speaker 2 (40:31):
Can we get long hair wig for Zoo on Halloween?
If not Halloween, then when, dude, why forget the NBA
Cup one game a year in costume? Mandatory costume?
Speaker 5 (40:45):
I think KPJ tried that last year.
Speaker 1 (40:50):
God he showed up in that insane with guests? Uh Joe?
Speaker 3 (40:56):
Didn't he play? Like ship that game?
Speaker 5 (40:59):
You don't?
Speaker 3 (41:00):
I want to look it up? Oh do you?
Speaker 5 (41:04):
I also like, is he gonna take the makeup off? Like?
How is this going to work? Now?
Speaker 3 (41:09):
Dude?
Speaker 2 (41:09):
You play in that game and then like anything happens,
like if it's not very good, you like, I guess
I have to put on this fucking purple.
Speaker 1 (41:18):
Like okay, okay?
Speaker 3 (41:21):
He shot.
Speaker 2 (41:21):
He was six for twelve, zero for three from three,
two assists, two turnovers, fourteen points.
Speaker 1 (41:29):
In a loss.
Speaker 3 (41:32):
Against the Suns.
Speaker 2 (41:35):
So still feel like an idiot, probably putting that joker
suit back on.
Speaker 5 (41:38):
Oh that was the Sun's game where they came back
down twenty one or whatever at the half and hit
fifteen straight shots to start the third quarter. Yeah, oh god.
Speaker 2 (41:48):
That Mexican Nara is saying, don't underestimate. I don't think
I am underestimating that. We know how this Clippers team
can get beat unforced turnovers leading to poor transition defense.
And this is a young team, like you know, like
Zion wants to get out and run and transition against
one of the older teams in the NBA. I'm terrified
(42:08):
for this game.
Speaker 5 (42:10):
Maybe we should have hit the disclaimer hard to start
off the season. But with the team this old in
a long, a two game season, there are going to
be nights believe it or not, or they just don't
have it where they don't have the juice, they don't
have the legs, they don't have the pop. Would you
expect that night one against the Utah Jazz. No, but
(42:32):
it happened. Just beware it doesn't necessarily mean they don't care,
they don't want to win some nights they're just gonna
have it old. Yeah, hopefully Friday night is not one
of them. And they just had two days off, so
I would not expect that. I expect them to win.
(42:55):
I expect them to win big on Friday. Honestly, you have.
Speaker 3 (43:04):
To pick what you're here for the last time. Uh,
we'll start with you.
Speaker 5 (43:12):
I think so much. Your internet is old and slow
like the Clippers. Uh, this this Pelicans game is dangerous.
Start fast, do not give them hope, give them the
(43:35):
Germany Renter hawkeye treatment. Do not give them hope. That's
how this game needs to be. And look, they're two
and ozer and into a dome. They have looked different
there so far. They shot the ball really well at
home to start the season. Will I would expect that
to continue, especially after two days off and getting Bradley
(43:56):
Buel back.
Speaker 1 (43:57):
Yeah, especially because this will be the most important LA
sporting event of that evening, and I expect every I
expect the audience to act thusly.
Speaker 5 (44:11):
Yeah, I don't know if they're gonna have the Clippers.
Speaker 3 (44:15):
Being at home also makes it a little different, makes
it a little different.
Speaker 2 (44:21):
It makes it scarier, exactly, it makes it more terrifying.
Speaker 5 (44:28):
I do expect them to win big. If they don't
and they win close, I'm not gonna be upset, just disappointed.
If they got lose and start two and three and
there's more of the same issues going on, and yeah,
then we can start having a conversation because then it's
(44:49):
very unlikely they're going to start the first ten seven
and three and they and they let and they let
go of a good opportunity to start off the year
hot with the schedule.
Speaker 2 (44:58):
What uh who's your Kawhi? Leonard James Harden the Beats
the Zoo Bots Player of the Game.
Speaker 5 (45:04):
Pick I think you just named all three of my guys.
Speaker 4 (45:09):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (45:11):
I will go with John Collins. Hell yeah, because I
think he might start. And even if he doesn't, if
he comes in four minutes into the ballgame to play
against Zion, you know that's also okay, that's also acceptable.
Speaker 3 (45:25):
And that's fine. Will gonna go Bradley Beal? Damn it
you're saying that.
Speaker 1 (45:33):
Yeah, Yeah, I'm hoping for some pot from him. A
nice little uh sat performance against the twenty ninth ranked
defense would be great.
Speaker 2 (45:44):
Just taking some pressure off hard like just like even
if he's just doing.
Speaker 3 (45:47):
The little stuff.
Speaker 2 (45:48):
Yeah, that Mexican Nara is in the chat saying I
think Zoo is due. I agree, But for this particular segment.
Speaker 1 (45:57):
Some reason, we are legally not allowed to choose Whiliner
James Hardener beats the Zoobots for our Player of the
Game pick.
Speaker 2 (46:03):
This isn't Pingalore rules. We're not picking the obvious.
Speaker 1 (46:09):
At one point the season, like in the last year,
the list got even longer than that. We added Norm
Powell to the list rightfully, so Bradley Beal might make
the list.
Speaker 5 (46:24):
I think people once Bradley Beal gets going are going
to be more accepting for why they started too and two.
Oh we were missing this guy. Yeah, I think that's
a real possibility.
Speaker 2 (46:36):
Here started two and two last year won fifty games.
So I'm not exactly pulling what's left in my hair
out over it. I am going to pick. So we
got Collins, we got Biel. I want to say Lopez,
but I think I'm gonna go.
Speaker 1 (46:55):
I'm going.
Speaker 2 (46:56):
Yeah, I think I'm going Derek Jones Junior.
Speaker 3 (47:00):
A classic pick from last year.
Speaker 2 (47:02):
A classic pick from last year. We're gonna need his athleticism.
It's a young team. I think they're gonna try and
run a little bit. He's just gotta make things a
little harder for them and transition. Like, I think this
is a good match for Derek Jones Junior and John
Collins to show what they can do and a gain
in a singular game basis to kind of offset some
(47:23):
of the age and athleticism issues.
Speaker 5 (47:25):
And low key DJ has been off to a great
start so far. Yeah, duding watch from the outside, he's
like forty six three. But you know what we're gonna do.
We're gonna be fair and say it's still a small
sample size. Let's let it play out. Even though good things.
Speaker 3 (47:38):
Let's let it play out.
Speaker 1 (47:40):
One final note before we leave, Kobe Brown will not
have his option picked up. He will be an unrestricted
free agent after this season. If you were on Kobe
Brown Island, I got off a couple of weeks ago.
I hope you brought some sunscreen lotion sucks, but I
don't know.
Speaker 2 (48:00):
Not incredibly unexpected, Adam, where were you when you fell
to your knees and sobbed after seeing this push identification.
Speaker 5 (48:08):
The shooting has never turned out to be there for
him the way it was his last year at Missoo,
where he shot forty six percent from the outside. That's
his swing skill. Without that, it's probably not happening. He's
gonna turn twenty six in January. I'm rooting for him,
but it's tough on this Clippers team. You gotta be uh,
(48:29):
you gotta be really well. The Clippers would have to
be a lot worse, which is always interesting to see
people say, why don't we play the young guys because
they're winning.
Speaker 3 (48:40):
Right, because we win fifty games.
Speaker 5 (48:44):
Why aren't they playing Musa who's gonna win twenty five
games this year in Charlotte? Like, uh, yeah, because there's
a reason for that. But you know, I like Kobe.
He still has some intangible stuff and kind of a
jack of all trade stuff. That's interesting. If the shooting
ever came around, it'd be big.
Speaker 3 (49:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (49:02):
This comment from Chub got me large samples for Kobe.
Speaker 3 (49:06):
That is true.
Speaker 2 (49:07):
Yeah, he could like kind of connect plays, but it's
just like his foot speed wasn't there on the perimeter
for defense. It's like one of those he was huge,
very large guy. But we'll wear Kobe Brown jersey.
Speaker 3 (49:24):
Well, I gotta call my laser guy first.
Speaker 2 (49:28):
Yeah, you gotta get that Kobe Brown holding the Larry
O b. You gotta get the year scratched out on
that one.
Speaker 1 (49:35):
Larry Kobe, All right on the Larry Kobe, No, we
are going to get out of here.
Speaker 2 (49:43):
There is a depending what happens in the Dodgers game,
there might be a post game after the Clippers versus
Pelicans game. How are they affected you? You have to
figure that out. We'll be back Sunday to talk the
back to back versu the Heat Thunder next week will
Where can people express their love or disstain with this

podcast publicly?
Speaker 3 (50:08):
Yeah, you can just go ahead and yell your disdain
into the wind.
Speaker 1 (50:13):
Janie look in the sky style. If you'd like to

Speaker 3 (50:36):
You know, we appreciate you.
Speaker 1 (50:38):
We really do.
Speaker 2 (50:39):
An adam Oh, someone's saying clips and no dip, no
dip for the regular season.
Speaker 3 (50:47):
We gotta lock in.
Speaker 2 (50:48):
We gotta lock in, dude, we did dips every week.
We wouldn't I wouldn't watch any of the games.
Speaker 3 (50:53):
I wouldn't know that.
Speaker 2 (50:54):
The season's over after four games, Adam. One positive thing
for for Clippers fans as we head into this spooky.
Speaker 5 (51:02):
Weekend, well, Bradley Beal's coming back. I think the Clippers
are going to play very well tomorrow and at that
point once you're a game above five hundred at all
as well in clipernation, guys, this this moment of time
where we are eight days in to the start of
(51:24):
the season, it will pass. Here's what I would say,
look to Kawhi Leonard's overall win percentage. Kawhi is healthy.
The odds say, if Kawhi is healthy, you're gonna win
a lot of games. So let's look forward to that
happening because I think he may still have the best
regular season win percentage in NBA history or somewhere around there.
Speaker 1 (51:47):
It's pretty damn close. Thank you bon Saw twenty eight
for saying no different the season casual.
Speaker 3 (51:55):
That is so funny.
Speaker 2 (51:56):
We love everyone who hung out and yes everyone is
thank you so much.
Speaker 1 (52:03):
Yeah, we'll be back.
Speaker 2 (52:04):
Everyone stays, have a safe and enjoyable Halloween weekend. Things
can get weird, and as always, let's go clips.
Speaker 3 (52:12):
We'll see you soon.
