Speaker 1 (00:11):
What is going on? Clippers fans, Welcome to a pretty
impromptu clips in dip. I guess end of weekend live hang.
I am Chuck Mockler, Adam positively upt like might join.
We just wanted to get something out for you ahead
of Clippers back to back starting on Monday against the

(00:33):
Heat and of the Thunder on Tuesday. Pretty difficult back
to back. If you're listening to this, I'm gonna put
this out on audio after kind of the live hang
and you want to catch one of these hangs is
at YouTube dot com. Flish at Clippers podcast. It's a
fun time. It was a very busy week for LA
sports in general. The Dodgers won the greatest World Series

(00:54):
in a very long time, which was great. So I
am moving slow today. But the Clipper scott a win
against the Pelicans on Halloween and what was kind of
a terrifying game of basketball, an incredible offensive effort from
Kawhi and James Harden. Obviously there was a late blunder

(01:18):
that almost ruined that whole thing. But I don't know,
I'll take any win against the Pels. I guess I
don't know if that's the craziest thing, but Tyler's like
six and twelve against them as Clippers coach, so it's
always a nightmare against the Pelicans. Tyleru postgame talked about,

(01:38):
you know, the defense was being too aggressive or I
guess not being too aggressive. He said, the defense is
trying to be aggressive and cause turnovers, which is a
fine line to tow. The free throws in the second
half against the Pels it was twenty three to seven
in favor of the Pelicans. That is something I will
be worried about in the thunder game and the Heat game.

(01:59):
We're gonna get to that in a bit, But I
don't know. I guess it's nice that the Clippers right
able to battle back after letting the Pels into that one.
Derek Jo Junior made some key plays. He's having an
awesome start in the season. But yeah, I don't think
any of us will will take any win against the Pelicans.
For granted, it's a goddamn nightmare playing that team. But

(02:22):
the Clippers head into this upcoming back to back with
Kawhi playing in the back to backs. Kawhi has said
there's no restrictions on his availability, which I would assume
means he's going to be playing in this upcoming back
to back, which is kind of a trip. I don't know.

(02:46):
I guess I thought it would be a bigger deal.
But also I can see the talking heads not wanting
to talk about it because it goes against their narrative
that he does not play basketball or does not want
to play basketball. I guess it's exciting that Kawhi is
playing back to backs. Maybe this is me being kind
of nitpicking, but I wish it was a normal back

(03:08):
to back time they get the late. We have an
eight pm game on Tuesday. Maybe that's just my age showing,
but that would mess my routine up. I feel like
I feel like the eight pm start for my first
back to back in a minute would mess me up.
Punk's gone wrong is in the chat saying I feel
CP three old age is showing. Yeah, it definitely is showing.

(03:31):
Adam and I talked about that and Will a little
bit last week. Yeah, when when the when the other
team just kind of sends a blitz defender at him,
the age is showing for sure, and it crunches the
rest of the lineup in a bench heavy lineup, which
can be difficult. So maybe but that maybe that's just

(03:54):
him playing into shape. We are an old team. They
will have to play themselves into shape. That shape ends
up being we hope it's the right shape at the
right time. But yeah, slow starts of the season for
CP three, and I guess that's how you can frame
it if you want to be a little more optimistic,
right like we can. We're five games in. I think

(04:15):
we can still frame it as them getting warm, right.
We can frame some of this effort five games in
to them kind of getting used to it. Things might
be different fifteen to twenty games in. We can talk
about that then, But right now I'm chalking up some
of it to their old It's kind of like a

(04:38):
lot more when you go out of private a couple
of times, you know, get that going, and they're they're
they're getting there. They're still getting there. They were gonna
hit this season running. But the young guys, young ish
newer guys have hit the season running. I've loved how
John Collins has started this season. Derek Jones Junior, as
I mentioned, just ergy pops. Yes, they're not going against

(05:02):
a bunch of other energy pops in terms of that competition,
but we need all of it. But yeah, Kawhi is
playing in I'm assuming he's gonna be playing in the
back to backs. Clean injury report for the game against
the Heat. Beal's gonna get a chance to kind of
get into more of a rhythm. There more chance to
hopefully get smare field goal attempts. Uh. Yeah, I don't

(05:29):
should I be overwhelmingly excited about Kawhi playing the back
to backs. I'm tepidly excited. He's looked great movement wise
to open the season. He's obviously coming off a huge
game and the game winner against the Pels on Halloween.
I guess I'm more curious to see how this looks.
This is a difficult back to back. This is a

(05:49):
pain in the ass of a back to back that
the Clippers have early in the season. Yes, we get
the Heat on the second night of a back to back.
That's good. They are playing the night that I'm recording
this against the Lakers. Norm is not playing against the Lakers.
That's gonna be his third miss game of the row
for the Heat, So that remains to be seen. If

(06:12):
he makes an appearance on the third against the Clippers
and then they get the Thunder on Tuesday, who are
six and er as of this recording, and are not
playing very good offense. So that's a little terrifying. Yeah,
what's up BONESOT twenty eight. If you want to watch

(06:32):
our old episodes in the off season where we review dip,
go check them out. We have some pretty good recipes
on there. If you're new to the pod, we talk
about chips and dip in the off season. Currently, it's
actual basketball, thank god. And I don't think there's any
new investigations that have dropped on the Clippers. Maybe there
will be when we do this live. I don't know,

(06:55):
but the Clippers have a difficult back to back coming up.
They play the Heat were fourth and net rating to
open the season and first in pace, which I don't
necessarily feel super confident about given the Clippers, and I
know pace is different than just quite literally how fast
the team plays, but they get a lot of possessions
per game, and the Clippers transition defense is not good

(07:22):
or it's still working itself out. I should say, their
top ten in field goal attempt so they're not super
pushing the scales their seventh, but they average the second
most point scored. It's gonna be tough. This is a team.
If Norm is out, obviously things are different and he's

(07:44):
we don't know if Norm's gonna play. He's out the
first night of their back to back tonight on Sunday,
and he missed too. He missed another game before, two
other games before this, so like he's actually he's genuinely hurt,
it seems. If Norm plays, I fully expect some kind
of terrifying display three from Norm Bow. I think we

(08:07):
can all agree on that everyone's healthy for the Clips,
which is good kind of I guess. Speaking of Norm,
the Norm power replacement for the Clippers, Bradley Beal, I
want to see him get some more field goal attempts,
you know what I mean? That would be cool. H
It's not his fault. He had a kind of herky

(08:28):
jerky start for this season. But a back to back
verse two good teams. I think it is a great
spot for Bradley Beal to show what he can do
because we know what on paper is there for this
so would be awesome if for one of these games
Beal can kind of put together that first you know,

(08:49):
good performance. Joe is deaf saying Pablo is investigating my
dip recipe. He might very well will be and I
think we have it all documented. It's all above board.
We got permission to share these recipes, you know legally.
I think that's really all I can say. I will

(09:09):
go on record. I'll defend any dip anyone's ever brought
up on this show. Oh, I'll do this three. You
know I'm worried about this heat game. I'm less worried
obviously if Norman Powell can't play. Uh. Wiggins is one
of those guys who people say, you know, is like

(09:31):
a is a good Kawhi defender, and he has bothered
Kawhi before. He is He's an annoyance to Kawhi Leonard
on the offensive end or the defensive you know what
I'm saying, when Kawhi is playing offense. So again, this
is where kind of the there's no min instructions for
Kawhi in the back to back, So excited to see

(09:53):
that matchup. Bam has lit the Clippers up before. So
this is a good test for Zoo, who's had a
fine start to the season. Again, we're early, We're not
taking too much away from everything. One thing we have
we can take away from the season so far for
the Clippers is that they're giving teams chances of the

(10:15):
line in bunches. It feels like it feels like there's these,
you know, spikes of free throw attempts for the opposing team,
which is never ideal. And the Heat are a team
that don't generate a lot of free throw attempts per game.
They're like twenty fifth right now in free throw attempts
per game, so we can't help them in that regard.

(10:39):
I would like them to not get it, you know.
I don't want to see another second half where we
lose free throw attempts twenty three to seven, because the
Heat are a lot better than the Pelicans. And if
we're on through any two quarters, if we're on some
kind of lopsided free throw attempt you know, total like that,
I don't think things are going very well. What's up,

(11:01):
Jimmy Williams, Thank you for hanging out in the live.
They give up a ton of three point attempts, something
the Clippers can pry at their Hopefully Zoo's making the
good decisions out of the short role. Hopefully. I think
Derek Jones Junior will probably have some open looks when
he has looks to start this game. Yeah, man, Kawin Harden,

(11:27):
we're just so good on Halloween. I just hope that
shit carries over. The Heat also get a bunch of
scoring from their bench, so I think there's been some
concern to open this season with the bench lineups, with
the bench heavy lineups. Obviously we saw bad things happen
when Kawhi, Harden, and Zoo were all off the floor

(11:48):
at the same time. No one's surprised that that didn't
go super well when we've seen that this season and
the small bits we've seen it. But either way, the
Heat get a lot of scoring from their bench. Hakez
and Fontacio are crucial for that for that bench lineup,
So Tyler's staggering is gonna be interesting in this one

(12:13):
against the Thunder. I think we're gonna see Uh, Done
and Derek Jones Junior on the floor together a lot,
and I wonder if we'll have to see it also
against the Heat because they just have physical bodies out there.
Joe is deaf saying I really like Done over Beal

(12:33):
the Done Zoo excuse me. The Dun Derek Joe Junior,
Zoo Claw hard lineup seems to be more in sync
and rhythm I think it seems to be that way
because it is they've just played more basketball together for sure.
That's what's kind of difficult. I don't I don't want
to say the Clippers have like a full roster crunch

(12:54):
right now, but to start the season they kind of
do a little bit right. They're trying to get Beeal
back into the swing of things. They were trying to
work Bogie back in. So I understand liking the look
of that lineup that done Derek Jones, Junior Zoo why
and hardened lineup because it just looks like they are
much more comfortable, but they Tyler does have to figure

(13:18):
out how to work deal in there, So that is
it's a frustrating thing to figure out. Maybe with the
back to back we see more of a concrete change
at halftime if something isn't working, just to try and
get the win, because Adam wanted us to be seven

(13:38):
and three over the first ten and we're three and two,
so we got to tighten this shit up a little bit.
So I understand that sentiment. Though Joe Chris Dunn has
played some great basketball to open the season, and yeah,
that the game against the heat is not easy. The
game against the Thunder is also terrifying. We're playing them

(13:59):
the second night of a back back. There's six of
er as of this recording. They're playing the Pels, then
they have an off day, and then they play the Clips,
and again we will be on the second night of
a back to back. I'm a little worried about this one.
I guess oh sorry, Yeah, they smoked the Pells today.

(14:23):
They put up one thirty seven on the pills and
they're off tomorrow. Uh, and then they play the Clippers.
And their offense before this Pelicans game was not very
good ratings wise. It was the nineteenth raded offense. I'm
sure that's gonna go up a spot or two during

(14:45):
this but this is like they're not close to final
form yet. They're percentage wise, they're one of the worst
three point shooting teams in the league. That's percentage wise.
That has to probably break soon, right Like they this
is a team that was top ten last year in
three point shooting. This is also a team that's very fast. Uh. Yeah,

(15:10):
they shot forty two percent against the Pells tonight, so
maybe they got it out of their system and they
won't shoot well against the Clippers. But this is a
team that is kind of like this is the Clippers Kryptonite, right.
It's a young team that plays very active defense to
force turnovers, and they run a lot. Their pace isn't
super high ranked, but they can get buckets quickly. This

(15:36):
is where I think we'll see Done and Derek Jones
Junior a lot in the lineups. I guess we got
to try and rely on defense for this because the
offense has been a little spotty. I think if Patuma's
playing well, we'll see a lot for what it would
be of batum Derrek Jones Junior and Chris Dunn, just
because defensively that's so good. And if one of Dunner

(15:59):
Derek Jones Junior is hitting threes, those three guys can
be super useful. Optimum four four two nine. Asking do
you think we should continue to ride the year out
with Bogie or does get moved before the deadline. I
don't know what you trade Bogie for. I don't know
what what do we trade Bogie for. We have a

(16:19):
good backup center, we have a backup power forward. I
think we just keep Bogie. It's not like there's a
player out there five games in that is screaming replaying
this guy is great. You know, he's got to figure
it out. He didn't have a preseason either. Him and
Beale are going to have slow starts, but you just
ride it out right like they're not. There's not a

(16:42):
huge glaring hole or a fix four said glaring hole
for the Clippers five games in the season, main it
Coundo said, I just wanted to say, you very much
look like a chuck checks out. I appreciate that. Yeah,
thank you. That's that's partly why I go by it.

(17:06):
I'll take that for sure. Uh yeah, this Thunder game,
man If Kawhi and Harden, I am assuming guys are
gonna have to play heavy minutes against the Heat because
the Heat are not a pushover team at all. Klue

(17:29):
Blue ninety five saying Buggy just hasn't let his nuts, saying, man,
I can see the little confidence. The confidence is low
right now. And yeah, I hope Tyler's giving him similar
advice as to what you said, because he should do that.
Jimmy Williams saying, will be interesting to see what happens
with Collins. He is killing it off the bench with

(17:49):
interesting to see with Harden Beale Kawhi and Collins has
been so fucking good to open this season. We had
high hopes for him on this pod. Thank you Jimmy
william by the way, we had high hopes for him
on this podcast. He's been so efficient. He's yeah. He
had the quote in the U because this is a

(18:13):
contract here for for John Collins. He had the quote
where he was like, I'm gona either bust my ass
as a starter or bust my ass as a bench
player paraphrase. But he's been awesome to open the season.
You can see the juice anytime he's out on the court.
We're gonna need him and Derek Jones Junior to be
useful in transition. For both of these games. The Heat

(18:37):
play a quick pace. The Thunder can play a quick
pace and are just younger and more athletic than the Clippers.
Not that we're not athletic, but it is the Thunder.
I'm hoping we if we, I would feel pretty good
if we split this back to back. These are two
good teams. It's gonna be it's it's gonna be difficult. Again.

(19:03):
I wish it's nice Kauhi is playing in the back
to back. We like that a lot, but it's gonna
be a test couple off of her own performance on Friday.
Him and James Harden is awesome. It's like the momentum
is there again. Splitting this back to back would not
be the worst thing. It's a difficult matchup. Got another

(19:27):
super Chat, thank you so much. Oh soo real said
miss the buzzer beater on Friday. Because trick or treating
the no game over the weekend. Birthday is tomorrow, though,
so let's go Clippers. Yeah, let's hope the Clippers gonna
win on your birthday. That would be sick. I hope
every I hope everyone who has a birthday during a
Clippers game gets a win for it. That would be fantastic.

(19:48):
And hope trick or treating was good. I don't know
how old you are. I hope yeah. I guess either
you got game you took someone to get candy, but
thank you for the five dollars. So yeah, split this
back to back. Then it's I mean, then it's still
like they're four and three, but they got two games

(20:09):
against the Suns right after this, so they have some
wilgerin they go, yeah, okay, after this back to back
they have a game against the Sons on the sixth,
a game against the Sons on the eighth, and then
the Hawks on the tenth, in which the recent news
about Trey Young makes that the three games after this

(20:30):
back to back kind of a cushion a little bit,
not to say to look ahead or anything like that,
but they split this back to back, they can still
end up, you know, looking okay, after their ten games
they split this back to back, they would be at

(20:51):
four and three. They Yeah, they can get to seven
and ten or seven and three over their first ten.
But it's gonna be difficult. I know Adam wanted them
seven three. I take that too. It's gonna be tough.

(21:12):
We're gonna need again. This is a great time for
Beale to hopefully kind of snap into the norm power
roll ironically enough against the Heat or else. We're just saying,
took their son. There we go. Yeah, was surprised at
the game against the Peals came to a buzzer beater.
That makes sense. There was a whole bunch of free throws.

(21:35):
It was a nightmare. They cannot They have to defend
with discipline in both of these upcoming games, because again,
you don't want to give the Heat extra free throws
for a team that's already averaging top five points per game,
and you don't want to give the Thunder anything extra

(21:56):
at all because they they could maybe run the Clippers
the gym. I don't know. We'll see what happens, but
let's hope it doesn't. We are going to have a
full episode for y'all out on Wednesday. Sorry for the
spody coverage this week. It was the World Series. I'm
a huge Dodgers fan. I'm also moving a little slow today.

(22:17):
But the Clippers are three and two. Big test back
to back wise coming up tomorrow. Let's hope they can
split it. We'll be back with y'all Wednesday with a
full episode. Thank you for hanging out. If you'd like
to subscribe to this so you can get alerted when
we go live, check us out at YouTube dot complish
at Clippers Podcast. If you hung out in the stream,

(22:38):
thank you for hanging out. We really do appreciate it.
We'll probably do a live stream after the game on Tuesday,
just to react kind of in real time to how
again this not easy back to back goes. Here's to
Kawhi and Harden continuing the offensive dominance. Here's to not
fouling in bunches and here's to a good week. Thank
you for hanging out, and as always, let's go clips.
