Speaker 1 (00:00):
Oh friend, what have you done now?
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Of course? Why not? Well I'll tell you why not?
Speaker 3 (00:11):
I good?
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Shock bang?
Speaker 4 (00:29):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (00:36):
Are you a call?
Speaker 2 (00:37):
No, I'm a plant, a plant that men like you
were usually called a fruit. Very funny, FBI, that phone
call from j Edgar Hoover was for me. I tell
you I didn't do it.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
All right?
Speaker 5 (00:57):
Good down.
Speaker 6 (01:02):
They all did.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
Hello, everybody, Welcome back to Clue movie podcast rebreakdown the
nineteen eighty five classic movie Clue, What Minute at a Time.
My name is Boat Brad Kilmore. I'm joined by the
General Jeff Smith. Jeff, how are we?
Speaker 7 (01:28):
Oh? I thought that was Christopher Lloyd. We finally got
him as a guest.
Speaker 6 (01:32):
Yeah, but no, it was just I did.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
It was the Boat and guess what like minute before us,
these last two weeks were continuing our series of having
some of our special Cluvians join us, the people who
have really helped be cultivated community for the show and
and really invest time.
Speaker 6 (01:54):
And we're excited to bring on.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
For almost literally the last bit of dialogue. He is
the often imitated, he has never duplicated. He is the
one and only Zach Zach.
Speaker 6 (02:07):
How are we doing?
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Man?
Speaker 4 (02:10):
Good?
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Good?
Speaker 4 (02:11):
As the as a certain motorist says, I'm a little nervous.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
I'd guys, works out better for you than the motorist,
I assure you.
Speaker 6 (02:21):
Maybe you know it's it's well, it's a long show.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
Yeah, we'll tell you someone's behind you.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
Don't answer any phone calls someone. Uh, but you know what, Zach,
this has kind of been fun for us because again,
Jeff and I quite literally have gotten to know one
another throughout the duration of this podcast, and now we're
getting to kind of know some of the Cluevians though,
some of our listeners and and and lifelong Clue lovers.
Speaker 6 (02:47):
So walk me through your Clue origin story, Zach.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
All right, so this is gonna be, say, kind of weird.
Let's go back all the way to February of twenty
twenty three. So I've been a Clue fan a year
and a half or so.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
Now.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
I think it turned out I had never played Clue
growing up. Say, of all the board games we played,
I always had the awareness of it, but that was
not one of them. So I think it was my
appearents had gotten my daughter, she's thirteen now. I think
it was like maybe her birthday of the year before
(03:30):
they got her clue, and I.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
Think it kind of sat there. They played at one time,
and then it turned out. I think we were just
board sitting around, like, all right, let's play clue. So
we did that, and yeah, she's like a clue wizard.
I keep asking her for tips because.
Speaker 4 (03:47):
I think I've won one game and I think it
was because she guessed the the final guess was wrong.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
But and then I think it was later in the day,
I'm like, hey, I know there was I'd always had
an awareness.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
Okay, there was a movie and I think even somewhat
recently someone I think I even had the awareness. Okay,
there were multiple endings. Let me see if this is
you know, if you guys want to watch Clue. So
there's a paramount plus free trial. Later they were sitting
there cards and clouds, and you know, by the time
(04:22):
Tim Curry's running around the mansion, IM like, I think
I have a new obsession. There's just no funny, fast
paced and yeah, so.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
Do you just kind of are you that so this
you said, this is February twenty three, Is that what
you said?
Speaker 2 (04:37):
Yeah? So I think I.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
Yeah, shortly thereafter, I'm a big movie trivia kind of guy.
So I go down the YouTube rab a hole. All right,
let me see you know what's out there, and it's
kind of online. You know, what's the Clue fan base like? So, yeah,
there's definitely the online presence. And I think I discovered,
you know, kind of found this at a good time.
(05:01):
I'm like, hey, there's a documentary that's coming out soon.
Hey there's the book that's coming out, and hey there's
a minute by minute podcast which I think I joined.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
You guys, maybe you.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
May have been a good twenty five episodes in so
I had to do some catching up, but yeah, every
every Monday, have been there ever since.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Well, first off, god bless you for having to listen
to us for all these episodes, but also you're kind
of more of a late to the game Cluvian overall
as far as your your movie fandom goes. So before this,
because you're wearing a stave puff marshmallow Man, you said
Ghostbusters was your main obsession.
Speaker 6 (05:42):
Would you say? That's correct?
Speaker 4 (05:46):
Yeah, and that's you know, I remember that back as
far back as I can remember the movies. Of course,
the cartoon series. It's kind of for whatever reason, that
stuck with me, just you know, funny movie full a
bunch of funny people, and you have the kind of
all the making of stuff where they talk about, you know,
kids kind of gravitated towards this, you know, at a
(06:08):
young age when you know you're scared of the unknown
and kind of Ghostbusters kind of I'm afraid of no ghost.
Speaker 6 (06:16):
Right, oh man.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
So because I'm also like a big eighties movie fan,
I love the Ghostbusters. But Jeff, go ahead, Jeff, we
can't hear you. Something's going on with Jeff. You know
what this is, what the things that happens. I've had
to deal with this from there. You go, yeah, we
can hear you.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
Good.
Speaker 7 (06:36):
Sorry, I'm backed Ghostbusters.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
I was gonna say so, Ghostbusters I remember seeing in
the theater and the library scene.
Speaker 7 (06:45):
Uh definitely had.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
Me a little nervous beforehand on the famous get her scene.
So I think that that's kind of the appeal of
a movie like Clue Too, is that there's just there's
it's scary enough that if you're a whimp like me
growing up, then it's just enough like you're not gonna
be watching Friday the thirteenth just yet or anything like that,
but you definitely.
Speaker 7 (07:08):
Can get get close, get close to the spooks, right right.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
I know that's what thing dan Ackroyd would say.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
You know a lot of so much comedy comes out
of tension and fear, so you know kind of all
have those in tense moments and then kind of relieved
by the laughter after.
Speaker 7 (07:26):
So yeah, so that was this whole plan get her.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
Here's here's my question, though, Zach, so being that you're
coming to clue a little bit later on than say
when I you know, when I was a kid or
Jeff saw it in the theater and things of that nature.
Were you, as with your adult brain, putting the pieces
together of the murder mystery before you got to the
(07:52):
ending and had an idea, or were you just kind
of along for the ride.
Speaker 4 (07:58):
I think maybe there was part of me that was
trying to maybe figure it out, but then at some
point I think I was more just along.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
For the ride. But yeah, I like the idea of so, Okay,
you know.
Speaker 4 (08:11):
This is you know somebody out there their lifelong favorite movie,
and you know it's kind of it was here as
like an artifact, just you know, it was waiting for
me to discover it this whole time. You know, this
movie's existed since what, yeah, nineteen eighty five. And I
think I had a friend say, you know, I'm surprised
you hadn't seen it. It seems I guess, you know, my
sense of humor the kind of thing I would like.
(08:33):
So I've just I've been missing out this whole time.
Speaker 6 (08:36):
This whole time, man, But you know what, better late
than never.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
So okay, let's think about this minute, Jeff, because this
minute is almost the last bit of dialogue we get
in the film, and it has some pretty big reveals,
including mister Green being an FBI agent.
Speaker 6 (08:56):
What stands out to you most in this minute.
Speaker 7 (08:59):
Well, I think we talked about this last week with Ben.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
Now I'm still I'm sad that Wadsworth turned bad because
he is my favorite. Even even with this ending, he
is my favorite. And I don't like that he was
a bad guy. I don't like that he was shot.
And I remember it took me years to figure out
what he said as far as the line said when
he says and very good, I could never understand. And
(09:25):
this is pre subtitles. I just I thought, I don't
know what I thought he said. It was just kind
of gibberish. And now I you know, he says good shot,
green and very good, and he has that wonderful eyes
going to the back of.
Speaker 7 (09:39):
His head, like very relaxed death, Like he's I think he.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
Wins on the on the death of all the movies
as far as the best, Yeah, is the best death?
Speaker 6 (09:51):
Zach? Would you would you mirror that?
Speaker 3 (09:52):
Would you say this is probably the best death of
the movie, or do you have a better one?
Speaker 4 (09:59):
I think I knew, remember the shock of the surprise
that wasn't even Wadsworth Thore Mister body.
Speaker 7 (10:08):
Just smiles.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
I don't like it.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
It's kind of sinister as well as only skim Curry
can do.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
What what is funny too, Jeff is that he's he's
not even upset that he got killed.
Speaker 6 (10:24):
He's more so impressed, like good shot.
Speaker 7 (10:28):
He is a compliment now.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
And then when he sees the damage that it caused.
I think he just thinks like good shot. And then
when he realized, oh this is fatal and very good,
very good shot, and then you know, I will lay
here and die.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
It's kind of a it's kind of a weird reaction.
But my thing is that is it's really I hope
to go out that way. It's really not that great
of a shot because he's almost at point blank range.
Speaker 6 (10:53):
He's he's rather close.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
Right right.
Speaker 4 (10:58):
That kind of his reaction goes along thinking about the
other two endings where miss Scarlett and missus Peacock both
pull out the guns, and he kind of has that
knowing look of you know, he knew it.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
He always knows, he always knows, but he's but if
he knew, I don't think he knew about Green.
Speaker 7 (11:17):
I don't think he knew mister Green.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
Was anything other than who he said he was, because
he seems very surprised, because he says, of course, yeah,
when he's going into his jacket to put his glasses away,
he's not like hey, hey, hey hey, And in fact.
Speaker 7 (11:33):
He's very slow on the draw. He like takes like
a good three Mississippi. He doesn't even get to.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
Pull the trigger, right, So he was he knew everything except.
Speaker 7 (11:44):
That mister Green was FBI, even though.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
He got a phone call from jag Or Hoover in
the middle of the night as the night went on.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
Okay, that was gonna be my question. Zach, walk me
through your thinking here. If you have a theory, please
use this platform to illuminate it because if mister Green's
FBI again and Jagger Hoover called for mister Green, but
mister Body who we come to find out as mister
(12:15):
Body answers the phone, what is the conversation that mister
Jagger Hoover haven't right?
Speaker 2 (12:24):
That is one of those things I thought it was
kind of weird.
Speaker 4 (12:27):
It's like when you sit there and try to analyze
certain things, It's like, well, this doesn't really, I say,
make as much sense. Or if you know, why would
Jay Edgar Hoover announce himself or if that's the you know,
another bumbling government FBI. You know, I'm sure they would
announce who they are, or or if you know, who's
(12:47):
going to believe that?
Speaker 2 (12:48):
I forget it from the script.
Speaker 4 (12:50):
If the cop replies with something like yeah, and I'm
the Pope, yeah, some kind of.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
Yeah, yeah. I think that'll be our next if we
can ask Ai Juniper, what was the conversation that mister
Bobby and Jay Grew Hoover had on the phone that
Jagar Hoover convinced mister Boddy, hey, don't worry, please aren't coming,
because he had to reassure him somehow that it wasn't
(13:17):
really Jandre.
Speaker 6 (13:18):
Hoover absolutely had to have some sort of uh real.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
Now that we have AI, we don't have to be
creative and figure it out ourselves.
Speaker 7 (13:27):
We just asked the app.
Speaker 6 (13:28):
So you do you want me to do this now?
Is that what you're saying?
Speaker 7 (13:31):
Sure, let's ask Juniper.
Speaker 3 (13:32):
So you okay, now give me your exact question that
you want me to answer you. What is your exact question?
Speaker 6 (13:38):
Tell me? Oh can I don't know if you can
hear you. Let's try it. Let's try it out.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
Let's try it.
Speaker 6 (13:43):
Okay, we're bringing Juniper online.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
Juniper, welcome back to Clue Movie Podcast with Jeff Smith
and Zach and me the boat Breg Gilmore.
Speaker 6 (13:49):
How are you.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
Now?
Speaker 6 (13:52):
Let's see if I don't know if.
Speaker 5 (13:54):
Thanks for having me back on Juniper. It's great to
be here with you, Jeff and Zach. I'm doing well,
just keeping busy with all things back to the future,
wrestling and everything else in between. How about you? What's
new with the Clue Blue Crew.
Speaker 6 (14:09):
She is taken over your identity, she's taking over my identity.
Speaker 7 (14:11):
Okay, and you are now Juniper.
Speaker 6 (14:13):
So okay, okay, this is weird.
Speaker 3 (14:17):
This is a little strange, But Jeff, I think you
were ready for hold on now, she's having a connection issue.
I think we're almost ready.
Speaker 6 (14:25):
For your question.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
She can hear me?
Speaker 6 (14:29):
Well, hold on now. Look, of course, it's like pinwilling me.
Speaker 7 (14:32):
There we go, ask Juniper, can you hear me?
Speaker 6 (14:38):
I think she can.
Speaker 5 (14:39):
Yeah, I hear you now, Juniper, looks like the connection
was a bit iffy there for a second. What were
you saying?
Speaker 1 (14:45):
Okay, Juniper. In the movie Clue, j Edgar Hoover calls
the mansion and mister Body takes the call. What was
the conversation that j Edgar Hoover had with mister Body
on the phone before mister Body went back to meet
with the guests.
Speaker 6 (15:05):
Okay, that's a that's a big one, Jeff.
Speaker 5 (15:07):
In the movie Clue, we don't actually hear the conversation
between j Edgar Hoover and mister Body on the phone.
The scene is played for mystery and humor, with mister
Body simply acknowledging the call before returning to the guests.
The details of the conversation are left to the audience's imagination,
adding to the suspense and intrigue of the plot. It's
(15:29):
one of those classic clue moments that leads more to
the imagination.
Speaker 6 (15:34):
But what would the fictitious version of the phone call be?
Come on, man, we have I got it.
Speaker 5 (15:45):
Okay, here's a fun fictitious take on what that conversation
between j Edgar Hoover and mister Body might have sounded like.
Fixter Body, Yes, this is Body. Good evening, mister Body.
I trust your keep seeing everything under control over there,
as well as one can with such a unique group
(16:06):
of guests. I hope you understand the importance of tonight.
We're counting on you to ensure that nothing gets out
of hand. Of course, Director Hoover, everything is proceeding as planned.
I'm glad to hear it. Just remember, mister Body, the
information you have is of the utmost importance. The wrong
move could have serious consequences for you and for others. Understood,
(16:31):
I'll see to it personally.
Speaker 4 (16:33):
Good.
Speaker 5 (16:33):
I'll be expecting a report soon, and mister Body, don't
disappoint me. You have my word now, if you'll excuse me,
I have a few loose ends to tie up. Ja
Eggar Hoover make sure you do. Mister Body hangs up
the phone, straightens his tie and takes a deep breast
before heading back to the guests. This imagined conversation as
(16:54):
I'll be honest.
Speaker 6 (16:54):
With you, not good.
Speaker 1 (16:57):
So wait a minute, Hoover is a cohoots with mister Boddy.
Speaker 3 (17:03):
Yeah, I don't know if I love that one from
Judi Park, I don't know. Well, now let's get back
to Zach though for a moment. Another question, Which of
the three endings is your favorite of the Clue movies?
Speaker 5 (17:16):
So?
Speaker 6 (17:16):
Which are the three dings? Is your favorite?
Speaker 2 (17:20):
Uh? I would have to say, I know, I did
recently develop more of an appreciation for the Peacock ending.
Speaker 4 (17:30):
I think initially it was kind of just trying to
come to its defense because I know a lot of
people that's kind of that seemed like maybe the least favorite.
But I'd have to say, if I had to pick one,
it actually is the the final ending, maybe in the
way that to.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
Me it's the most satisfying.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
I guess closures the right word kind of after all this,
you know, everybody kind of trying to cover their tracks.
You know, everybody had a hand in it, which kind
of maybe in the final not icing on the cake
of the spoofing, who done it?
Speaker 2 (18:05):
Genre? I guess.
Speaker 4 (18:06):
You know, it turns out they all did it. But yeah,
to me, just seeing everybody there, there are parts where
it feels like it's kind of I think you guys
had said rushed in some ways, or it's kind of
Wandsworth kind of just plows through quickly, re kept retelling everybody,
so you know this person did this and this person.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
But I do like that, I guess.
Speaker 4 (18:27):
As far as it feels like, you know, giving everybody
something to do.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
Kind of in that way, I guess. And it actually
it makes me I thought of this.
Speaker 4 (18:36):
It makes me think of one of my favorite movies,
the say another Colleen camp movie, the fake out ending
of Wayne's World ending strung together.
Speaker 2 (18:45):
It makes me think of that.
Speaker 6 (18:47):
Oh yeah, you know I never put that.
Speaker 7 (18:49):
She was in two movies with multiple endings.
Speaker 3 (18:52):
She was, And of course you know Wayne's World, Tia Carrera,
you know, big.
Speaker 1 (18:57):
Fan, A big fan, huge crucial sehn big.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
Fan now, Zach. Also, here's the next question. Your guiltiest
game piece character is who?
Speaker 7 (19:13):
Who?
Speaker 6 (19:13):
You think Blackmail is the worst?
Speaker 4 (19:17):
I remember you guys talking about this. I'm trying to
remember if I had a real opinion, because I know
i'd have to i'd say probably Professor Plumb. I guess, yeah,
I guess kind of, you know, taking advantage of patients,
Like it's like, well, missus White did find out she
(19:40):
did already kill it up to this point. But i'd say, yeah,
probably Professor Plumb, kind of taking advantage of.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
Yeah, i'd have to say that, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
I kind of I'm kind of right there with you.
It's it's it's I think it's Plumb. It could be
White sometimes it could be Scarlet.
Speaker 6 (20:01):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (20:02):
I don't know now of these game piece characters, who's
your favorite?
Speaker 2 (20:09):
I think it kind.
Speaker 4 (20:10):
Of like I'd had other movies and shows where it
would fluctuate a kind of you know, during a rewatch,
Oh I like this person more or this one. But
I think it, I know, the initial watch going into it,
I kind of love everybody in it. I'd say, yeah,
just growing up with Christopher Lloyd in a of course
(20:30):
back to the Future, but yeah, all everything he's been in.
Speaker 2 (20:33):
But yeah, I think he's ultimately I just.
Speaker 4 (20:37):
His performance and I know you guys kind of has
his mostly subdued, you knowly gets close to Doc Brown
a few times in there.
Speaker 3 (20:45):
Yeah, just a couple of times just a couple of times, Jeff,
was there anything else pertinent in this minute that we
should make sure we get to with our guest Zach
before we send things on home.
Speaker 7 (20:57):
Well, it has a very dated Joe about men. I
thought men like you were normally called a fruit. But
that's okay, we'll let that one mind.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
That's actually want I thought it recently.
Speaker 4 (21:10):
It was on TV and they actually cut out that line,
so oh that's interesting. But yeah, I know, the jokes
I know people say, you know, don't necessarily hold up.
I guess they decided, okay, we still don't want to
say that, Okay.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
Yeah, I mean, look, here's the thing, like, I guess
if you look at it in the nineteen fifties version, right,
because they're in the fifties, right, So if you're looking
at it like that, that is.
Speaker 6 (21:38):
Probably you know, it could the worse. Yeah, well, yeah,
that's probably the lighter side of it.
Speaker 1 (21:45):
I would say of all of the characters, Miss Scarlett
is probably the most progressive in that kind of thinking
that she's not saying it to me me, She's just
saying it as like a put down, like any other
put down, not that she's like disgusted by him in
any way. She's just got hurt her wit, but she
can't help it.
Speaker 3 (22:05):
But also, I mean, like if I'm cutting a not
that not that I'm I'm big into going back and
like re editing things for you know, today's time or
whatever like that.
Speaker 6 (22:16):
You know, Hey, it's a moment. It lives where it lives.
It is what it is.
Speaker 3 (22:19):
We accept it for its faults and and and and
all all the great things about it.
Speaker 6 (22:24):
But like, it's not the funniest joke ever.
Speaker 7 (22:28):
No, I don't think it would make the cut this time.
Speaker 3 (22:32):
Right, Like if you were to go back, you'd be like, oh,
you know, I don't really need that.
Speaker 6 (22:35):
It's not the funny.
Speaker 1 (22:36):
Even even mister Green says, very funny, you gotta laugh, right,
he critiques the joke himself.
Speaker 3 (22:43):
He does the dumb, dumb, lame, lame thumbs down. I
do not like, do you have a least favorite character?
Speaker 1 (22:53):
Zet oh oh boy.
Speaker 2 (22:58):
That is saying m hm say, well, I was singing telegram.
She doesn't really say. She's not around for long. It's
hard to really say.
Speaker 4 (23:09):
I had a thought on the the cook, I guess
in the flashback where you see her getting stabbed It's like, well,
if she heard a gunshot from the other room, I
wouldn't be sitting there still working on stuff.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
But the way, and early on I had a say
the opposite of least favorite character.
Speaker 4 (23:32):
I think I had a fascination with mister Body, just
his look, in his presence, the way he just kind
of mysterious walks in and he has his short little
time before he is deceased.
Speaker 6 (23:44):
You know, we got it.
Speaker 3 (23:45):
We're getting a lot of Body love from the Klovians.
Although it was Ben's least favorite character, but I.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
Think that was more because he didn't like what Body represented.
He was he was mean to all the nice murders
