promotion going our event here at so Boba Casino tonight.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
Yes, it's a big time fighting. One of the good things.

Speaker 4 (02:05):
One of the reasons I wanted to reach out to you,
and I'm excited about And I always tell people my
firstborn was it was it was my baby girl, and
I always like to give representation to the to the
female sports. You have a fighter that is the pride
of the Coachella Valley.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
Tell us a little bit about your fighter. We had
her on in Riverside.

Speaker 4 (02:24):
Tell us a little bit about your boxer boxing out
of the the CV.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
Well here you know what you're right? We have brook
Brook Cibrian, Yes, she is. She is going to be
the co main event tonight under Albert Chop Chop Gonzalez
who was with Top Rank. Yes, and and so her
and it's going to be uh Brook versus Katherine Lindenman.

(02:51):
They call her Cat. She's from Albuquerque, New Mexico. And
Chat's record is seven and four and of course Brooks
record is seven and two. So this is not going
to be a walkover fight at also is going to
be a battle.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
Mm hmmm. Absolutely. Now tell me a little bit about
this that your you and your wife. Do you run
the House of Pain?

Speaker 2 (03:15):
Correct, that is correct, we run the House of Pain
boxing mentorship, program management, and promotions.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
Right, tell me a little bit about that. Tell me
about your journey. How did you get I mean, it's
one thing I love. I grew up in the Golden
Age of boxing, so I love it in the in
the well, the golden age age was the seventies when
there was a guy called Muhammad Ali. You know, so
that was a golden age. But right at the end
of it, with Mike Tyson love boxing, But what what
made you fall in love with boxing? What made you

(03:45):
want to get involved and become a promoter? And you're
mentoring kids as well.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
Yeah, you know what, Well, if you got a quick
quick management, this is your moment. It started. It all
started back in nineteen seventy six, back in then Colorado,
we had the ex heavyweight champion ron Lyle who opened
up a program to the kids to keep them out

(04:10):
the streets and get them out drugs and make sure
that they weren't you know, getting into gangs and what
have you. And and I was the kid that was
always getting beat up by the neighborhood, by my family,
by my cousin, by everybody. Until one of my cousins
took me down there to the gym to go bodybuild. Well,

(04:30):
well I got intimidated by a big bodybuilder, So I
ended up walking into the boxing gym and we ended
up sparring my first day there and fell in love
with it ever since. You know, two or three years later,
I was no longer being bullied by anybody, And so
I know how that feels, right, and you know, so
we break it. So we turn around and fast forward.

(04:50):
Now House of Payne came out of twentieth Street Gym
and they ended up coming out of in the nineties.
So that was Steve Mestis, who is also a promoter
out of Denver, and he's with air Tight as well.
I mean, he's a founder of the original House of Pain. Now,
I brought House of Pain out here right when COVID happened.

(05:12):
You know, when COVID happened, the kids weren't supposed to
be getting sick according to the CDC, And so I
invited everybody that I knew to bring their kids in
from the you know, being on their PlayStations, being on
their video games, being on their phones, and being stuck
in their rooms basically just to come out. And actually

(05:33):
I was going to start bodybuilding them. But I always
had bags in the gym, always been training people for many,
many years. So they came over. They took to the
bags instead of the bodybuilding, just like I did back then.
And you know, we started with one, and then we
had four, then we had ten, and then during that
time I ended up catching COVID about four times. Oh wow,

(05:55):
because the kid get me sick, right, well, we survived that.
So my wife and I decided to retire at that
time and do what we've been longing to do, and
that was opened up the House of Pain boxing mentorship
program here in Temecula, California.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
That's awesome. And name dropped your wife for us.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
Her her name is, I call her her handle is
the original nuts and Boats. She her name is Mary
Trehill And I'll tell you what she is, my side
by side partner at arms.

Speaker 4 (06:29):
I love it. I love it. I call my wife
the boss. But that's wonderful. I love the story when
you think about it to go that's what happened to him.
I think Ali talked about it. He was getting bullied
and that's why he went into boxing and he went
and did his thing. So that's awesome when you see
that that you grow it and you develop it. And
tell me about about mentoring your kids, because there's a

(06:49):
story for me.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
I grew up.

Speaker 4 (06:51):
When I was a kid, they tried to teach us
boxing and that that little dip that's in your chest.
I got hit right in there and all the wind
came out of me and I said, that's the last
day I'll put.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
On a boxing glove.

Speaker 4 (07:01):
But tell me about why is it so important for
you to mentor kids and getting them involved. And are
you as excited as me for the renaissance of boxing?

Speaker 2 (07:12):
You know what, I am as excited as you. I'm
so happy with it. You know, House of Pain is
actually bringing back back a little bit old school. And
what I mean by that is we like lining up
our fighters with fifty to fifty fights in other words
equal you know, once in a while we'll do put
on what they call it then a side and the
B side where somebody's trying to build their fighter. But

(07:35):
once they have about five or six fights, they have
to start really banging it out. If they don't, then
they're they're they're headed for heartbreak in the future. So
in the House of Pain, all of our boxers, which
we average anywhere from one hundred and thirty to one
hundred and fifty per month wow membership. So we teach
them when they go into the boxing world how to actually,

(07:58):
you know, go in there and do your best and
you never lose. We teach them you're never losing because
you're always learning right, right, And if you learn how
to take the feet graciously and be able to step
through that show back up to the gym and you
your winds are going to come, you know. But the
thing is is we mostly battle them in the gym
about life, and we take the same the same model

(08:23):
as in life. So we build them u That's why
it's called the House of Pain. We break them down,
We get them to get to know themselves because boxing
is just such a brutal sport, right that even the
workouts will take you out of your own self. And
once you learn to feel that, you can actually accomplish
that type of workout and that type of handle that

(08:47):
type of pain when you take it out to the world.
The world is unfair, So the world being unfair, you're
going to be able to handle that a lot more.
You're going to be able to handle the word no,
You're going to be able to handle aggressive. You're going
to be able to handle just a lot of things
out there that are out there, you know, that are
heartbreaking and they hurt. But most of all, we toughen

(09:08):
them up mentally, physically, and you know, we work with
them all. We work with all children, special needs children.
It's amazing what the special needs children can do. You know,
they come in and we put them through it. It's
just a phenomenal program. And the way we have it
set up, we have six pro coaches on the floor

(09:31):
and so they're never alone and they have to go
through a sequence of working out. They're not just allowed
to walk around and do whatever they want. They have
to do their warm ups, they have to do their footwork,
they have to do their shadow boxing, then they do
their drills. Once they do the drills, they go to
the bags and then as they advance, we start putting
them in the ring and we spark every Tuesday and Thursday.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
That's awesome, And you know, I love the passion. I
love what you're doing.

Speaker 4 (09:52):
I know we're bumped up against the clock, but I
wanted you to tell me a little bit about so Boba,
the vent you're doing there, the fight you're doing, and

This is the Coachella Valley Sports Report with Coach b
Heard in Fox Heard on Fox Sports Radio in Southern California,
Fox Sports Am twelve to seventy, Palm Springs, and we're
streaming twenty four to seven on the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (15:13):
Stop the show. Don't you hear the phone? Someone's calling
in on the Fox Sports Radio Celebrity Hotline.

Speaker 4 (15:19):
And we have another caller here on the Celebrity Hotline. Caller,
would you please do us the privilege of introducing yourself
to the Fox Sports Radio audience.

Speaker 5 (15:30):
Absolutely, Coach Danny b Here, a veteran of thirty two
years sports betting since nineteen eighty three, nation's longest running
sports betting talk show, and I am pumped up for
a season number thirty two on app.

Speaker 3 (15:43):
Absolutely, Danny be the reason we wanted to have.

Speaker 4 (15:46):
And you were calling in and I realized it's like
an old school phone line. So I heard the phone
beeping so that it was funny because you don't hear
that anymore nowadays with someone's dot they don't answer those
the voiceamail.

Speaker 3 (15:58):
So I apologize, but we're excited. Danny B.

Speaker 4 (16:02):
The reason we wanted to have you call in and
the reason we want to do is, not only are
you a legend in this industry of broadcasting, you've been
heard all over these United States, and like you said,
going into year number thirty two, Danny B, you don't
look a day over thirty thirty five. I mean, you
still got the gun show. But Danny B, we're excited.
We're gonna announce two things we're gonna bring back inside

(16:26):
the numbers, and then I'll give you the privilege and
the honor to introduce to the Coachella Valley market what
you've got planned for us out here.

Speaker 5 (16:35):
Absolutely coach. On September fourth, opening day for the NFL
regular season, Dallas at Philadelphia, I'm launching a live show
Thursday nights and Monday nights from five to seven easton
obviously two to four Pacific time. It's gonna be a
live broadcast. We're going to be, for example, on Thursday,

(16:55):
we're going to be previewing the Thursday night game, Saturday's
college game, Sunday's NFL games, and then on a flip side, Monday,
we're gonna do some week happen we're going to talk
about the Monday night game and break things down and
just you know, we're gonna have a good sign. And
so I call it happy hours. Sit back, poor a beer,
stop by your favorite pub, la wherever you're rotch, just

(17:17):
have some fun and tune in absolutely.

Speaker 3 (17:20):
And Danny B tell me it's something about it. Thirty
two years in the game. What keeps you going? What
keeps you ticking?

Speaker 4 (17:26):
And I see now on your social media you and
your wife are doing stuff together.

Speaker 3 (17:29):
It's like a family affair for you guys.

Speaker 5 (17:32):
Well, my wife and I have always done podcasts together.
She's pretty creative herself. Actually we had a show in
New York City for many years together. But she's always
been a part of it. She's helped me in the office.
She's very hands on. She's a great wife, a great mom,
but very supportive. What keeps me going is the love
of the industry that's changing year in and year out

(17:53):
since twenty eighteen when legalization came about, expanding the sports
betting market. You know this sports books everywhere, and some
of the odds will vary, like I have some examples
of some you know, the over and unders, the win totals,
but they do vary. You know what kiss me going
is the drive of it, the love of it, and

(18:13):
the demand. And there's a lot of bad information out there. Coach,
everybody's an expert. You can tune into social media, you know,
the TNTs, the espns, and you'll hear this guy and
this guy say this most of the time they did.
Of course, controversy. You're never going to hear all of
them agreeing on the same pick. For example, if there's
a four man panel, two of them like the Cowboys,

(18:36):
two of them like the Eagles. Me on the other hand,
on September fourth, Now, anything can happen. It's early Parsons.
He wants out of Dallas, but I have a small
lean on Dallas plus seven plus seven and a half points.
And again those odds will vary depending on where you're playing,
and you know, whether you're betting with fan, duel, DraftKings, overseas,

(18:57):
et cetera. So the odds will vary. In again, you
think can happen. And that's just about a month. A wife.

Speaker 4 (19:03):
Now now this is you know, I'm asking for a friend.
It's not for me, of course, Danny b I you know,
I'm in sports broadcast and so I know this.

Speaker 3 (19:10):
So when they.

Speaker 4 (19:11):
Talk about that and they say the plus seven and
they talk about the spread, I mean, again, this is
not for me, you know, I'm just asking for a friend. Now,
explain articulate that to someone who's not involved with that
way they say, oh, you're gonna bet the spread or
it's plus seven. How what does that mean when someone
wants to go to place a bet on that.

Speaker 5 (19:28):
Well, the odds makers deemed the Eagles as the better
team minus seven points, which means if you like the Eagles,
you bet the Eagles. Usually you have to risk one
hundred and ten to win one hundred and again the
odds arry the ten percent rule. They call it the Jews.
The vigorous is the proper term. But the Eagles have
to win that game by over seven points. They have

(19:51):
to win by eight. You can't win by seven and
a half. So if the Eagles win just say twenty
one and fourteen, they win by seven, that's considered a
tie a push. So all that's so off. Now, if
they win twenty two to fourteen, they win by what
they win by eight points, so they cover the point spread.
Flip that around if you have Dallas plus seven, they

(20:14):
can lose the game twenty one to fifteen, and then
you put on the seven points to the final score.
They only lost by six, but yet they will plus
seven points. So it sounds a little tricky, but once
you place a couple of wages, you'll get used to it.
And today, the younger generation coach, they're not even betting
the teams. They're not betting the totals. They're betting the players.

(20:37):
Who's going to have the most catches, who's going to
have the most rushing yards, who's going to score the
first touchdown, Will there be a safety, will there be
a turnover, et cetera. So things are definitely changed. But
one constant, people love betting on the NFL. They love betting, period,
but especially the NFL.

Speaker 4 (20:56):
Right and I know now that's what they call those
prop bests. And once again you're listening to Coach b
on the Coachella Valley Sports Report heard on Fox Sports
Radio on Fox Sports twelve seventy eight, and we are
joined by the legend Danny being one of the guys
that I always looked up to, because I mean, you
talk about longevity, this is what you want what you

(21:17):
want to have if you want to get in this game.

Speaker 3 (21:19):
And I'll tell you what's exciting, what are we looking for.

Speaker 4 (21:22):
I know you said with the Happy Hour, are you
going to talk a little bit about what's going on
current or anything else that we can expect new, because
also Inside the Numbers talk to us a little bit
about that and how excited are you about to bring
that back to the Coachella Valley?

Speaker 1 (21:35):
Well?

Speaker 5 (21:36):
Absolutely, Inside the Numbers is the nation's longest running sports
betting talk show. It's heard coast to coast on Saturdays.
You know, depending on where you're at, you might hear
it at six o'clock in the morning, you might hear
it at ten o'clock depending on the market. And we
pre record that show so things can change. We usually
do it late on a Friday night, so come kick

(21:57):
off on a Saturday, things can change. So the information
is as accurate as possible, but nothing's better than talking live.
I can give you the up to the minute information.
Maybe somebody got hurt in the locker room, maybe weather
factored in. So the live show I really look forward
to it because it's up to the minute information right

(22:17):
before kickoff. I know, with three hours head here, and
you know, I think the game's start now at eight
fifteen on a Thursday, and on a Monday, just to
be nine o'clock. They keep changing it, the channels, et cetera.
But yeah, inside the numbers, I established that back in
nineteen ninety four. It was August of nineteen ninety four,
and it seems like yesterday, but it's a long time ago.

(22:40):
Then you add it all up, this will be my
thirty second season on air. But it started way back then.
I started betting professionally after I got out of the
military in nineteen eighty three. I was with the one
hundred and first Dayborn. Didn't learn a trade, you know.
They weren't hiring paratroopers in my neighborhood, so I didn't
have much to do with my life. I was just
street kids. So I started working for the local bookmakers.

(23:03):
Eventually I wound up in the Caribbean before the internet
even was a thing, where sports betting was legal. Now
it's just about legal in every state. I think forty
forty two states have some form of legalized sports betting,
you know. And so after a while I just decided,
you know what, let me help people rather than taking
their bets and taking their money. You know, and I

(23:25):
have an advantage. I know a lot of people in
the business, the people behind the window, the people that
actually take the bets, the people that set the odds.
And it ain't easy. It ain't easy. People think, oh,
because I'm an expert, I'm gonna hit sixty percent, I'm
gonna hit sixty two percent. Not the case. You can
have nice runs, but if you just hit about fifty

(23:46):
seven percent of your wagers, you can make yourself a
lot of money. But the key thing here, coach, is
you have to practice money management. You got to be disciplined.
You can't get caught up in its chase. In other words,
don't be a sore loser and start gambling and just
to try to break out even sometimes you got to
walk away, you know, walk away evaluate take a deep breath.

(24:08):
And that's how players get into trouble. And players are
getting into trouble because they're actually betting on the games themselves.

Speaker 3 (24:14):
Right.

Speaker 5 (24:14):
But getting back to what I started to say, you
get to that discipline, patience and information. And again, ninety
five percent of the information out there is bad information.
It's been compromised. What you hear on a Tuesday comes Saturday,
the points spread could jump two or three points. And
again you always it's hard. It's a lot of reading,

(24:35):
a lot of research, and you have to have the
moxy for it too. It's gambling. Look it up in
there in the dictionary. It's not doesn't mean you're going
to guarantee to win. But if you follow off system
and you can learn more about me by hitting the
website at dbwins dot com. At dbwins dot com little
resume there, there's a couple of phone numbers if you

(24:56):
have any questions. I'll be happy to spend some time
with you. And I know you're in Palm Springs out there,
and it's a beautiful place. And I know you talk
a lot of high school football and some great athletes
in California. By the way, I played baseball out there
after the military, little independent baseball which is heating up
as well. No pun attended, but yeah, I've been around

(25:17):
this business a long time in my neighborhood in North Jersey.
The whole bulk in New Jersey area, you will became
a cop, a fireman, or a gambler, maybe a construction worker. Obviously.
I don't put out fires. I don't have a badge,
and I'm not walking no high beam in Manhattan. So
I went the other route. And it hasn't always been easy.

(25:37):
I took my lumps as a kid, and over the
course at the time I learned. I started listening.

Speaker 2 (25:43):
See, if you listen, you learn.

Speaker 5 (25:44):
But you always have to listen. You can't have you
don't have all the answers. Nobody does, not me, not anybody.
That's why I have a team that I work with.
I communicate, and sometimes we all don't agree. I have
one guy that's very good. He might like the Cowboys.
Do you have one might like the Eagles, but a
lot of times they lit their opinions and emotions get

(26:05):
in the way. Cowboy fans refuse to bet against the Cowboys.
Eagle fans definitely won't bet against the Eagles. That's a
big mistake. Got to treat it like a business, treat
it with respect, and never here's a key thing. Never
bet what you can't afford to lose. Don't play with
house money. Find some disposable income, something that ain't going
to carry you, whether it's fifty bucks a week, five hundred,

(26:28):
whatever your budget allows you to do. Never exceed it.
Don't take food off the table because you can get hurt.
Is you know, a couple of approaches to this. You
can break out even which people like, hey, I had
a fun season, I didn't lose no money. You can
make money, which is very tough. Only three percent of
the public out there actually makes a living at this.
Or you can be you know, like the rest of

(26:50):
everybody else, just losing money. And whether you lose one
hundred or a thousand, it hurts, you know, depending on
your budget, et cetera, your lifestyle. Right, losing it's not fun.
People say, oh, it's a hobby for me. I don't know.
Losing money is not a hobby.

Speaker 2 (27:05):
It's not a hobby.

Speaker 5 (27:06):
But you know, again, it's disciplined patience. No one went
to tap out, push away from the table if you will,
and you know, and but when you win in it's
a beautiful thing. When you're losing, it's.

Speaker 4 (27:18):
Not obviously, Yeah, I have no discipline because I'm in Vegas.
I don't know to get up and walk away from
the poker table. So my wife it a elbow in
the gut.

Speaker 3 (27:28):
That's when I know it's time to go because I've
lost too much it.

Speaker 5 (27:31):
Yeah, well me personally, I go to the casino, I
expect to lose my wife and I play a little
slots to have a little fun. I don't get crazy
with it. Sports betting is my thing. I've never done
well playing blackjack. I've never done well playing poker rolette.
I've had my moments, but I've definitely lost a lot
more at the tables than i have betting on sports.

(27:52):
Sports has been my bread and butter. And again, I've
had good seasons that had okay seasons. I've had fantastics
see seasons. It's all about balance. For example, I might
have a better NFL season than my college season vice versa.
My kick butt in the NBA and college hoop's not
so good. So it's all about balance, and you have

(28:13):
to being in for the long run. You know, it's
ain't about a quick six, ain't a get rich quick thing.
You know, you got to treat it with a business.
If you make a couple of one hundred bucks, be happy,
walk away. But greed, Greed is the problem, coach, you know,
that's the problem with the world.

Speaker 4 (28:28):
Problem That so Danny b once again, we're excited about
that so again we're gonna have the danny Be Happy Hour,
and then we're going to have inside the Numbers again
and let everyone know again in the Coachella Valley when
they can expect for Danny Bee's.

Speaker 3 (28:42):
Happy Hour to hit the airwaves out of here.

Speaker 5 (28:45):
That will be September fourth, Dallas at Philadelphia. You know,
I'm gonna have some guests on from your area as well.
You know, I want to promote some of the local
businesses where you can go on a Thursday night to
watch the game, maybe grab some wings and a cold beer.
Same on them Monday, and you know, I just want
to have a little fun with it. It is exciting.
It's been a while since I've actually had a live

(29:07):
broadcast for a couple of hours, you know. And again,
our time zones are a little bit different, but it'll
still be fun. I'm not in Palm Springs, but I
know the area pretty well, have a lot of family
still out there. But yeah, I look forward to a
coach and I definitely want to thank you for having
me on today.

Speaker 3 (29:25):
