All local, all the time, covering the valley. Now, Coach B.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Coach B is the man.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Let's get started.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
This is the Coachella Valley Sports Report.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
I am your host, Coach B on Fox Sports Radio
Herd in Southern California on Fox Sports twelve seventy eight
M Palm Springs, and I'm heard in Las Vegas on
Fox Sports.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
Ninety eight point nine.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
FM is always We are streaming twenty four to seven
on the iHeartRadio app. Now, we have, as we normally do,
we have a jam packed a show in the building.
So just to give you an ideal of who we have, right,
we have one of the absolute best running backs in

(01:13):
all of the CV, Jonah Tolan is in the building
from Palm Desert High School and we're gonna give you
a breakdown of the Coachella Valley Top ten, and I
guess I can give you a little preview. They won
last night. They beat Rancho Mirage thirty one to seven,
and mister Tolan had a big part to do with that.

(01:35):
If you follow the social media for Fox Sports Palm Springs,
that's Instagram, well everything, the Graham x, TikTok, all of that,
everything is.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Fox Sports ps.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
But if you follow us on social media, you have
seen his highlights and you know this young man is
an absolute, absolute beast. It got to give props to
his mom, just like my wife. My wife was a
team and whatnot, and she has a shirt with his
face on it.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
I mean, that's a really really cool T shirt.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
And maybe I'll tell tell the young man I need
one of those, and I need him to autograph it
for me, because you know, when he gets to the association,
I need, you know, I need to have that memorabilia.
And then also we have cat City Flag Football in studio,
so we love to have the young ladies in come
and represent Cat City Football, Go Lions. And then we
have Grayson from Xavier Prep Cross Country now I've gotta

(02:27):
be honest with you. I've been on Fox Sports Radio
for ten years. As you all know, I was on
Fox Sports Am thirteen fifty for ten years and then
we made the transition out here to the Coachella Valley
and this is the first time I think I've ever
had cross country on the show, so I'm excited about
that to have him in the building. His mother and

(02:47):
I I used to work with her years ago. And
it's funny because she sent a cold is this such
and such a I was like, wait a minute, how
do you know about government name? But she reached out
and said, hey, you know, she gave me some information
about the CV. So I'm glad to have her son
in the building. So that's great. I'm excited about this.
The very first time I've ever had cross country in

(03:08):
so that'll be great. But what i want to do,
so now that I've gotten that out of the way,
tell you who we've got in the building today. And
I told you we have an absolute gam packed show.
I want to go ahead and take a look at
the Coachella Valley top ten for tackle football and we've
gotten some gotten some huge traction out there. Let me

(03:31):
pull out my phone and take a look at this.
And I'll tell you the reason I say this is
not to gloat, not to brag or anything, but like
I always say, I am just a vessel. And I
want to say thank you to the Coachella Valley because,
as you all know, we are new here. We just
launched the station. We're just getting acclimated. And when I
look at that poll for our tackle football, we are

(03:53):
hitting numbers that are exceeding my greatest expectation. Thirty five
thousand views on that poll, and we just posted that pole.
We posted that pole five days ago, so thirty five
thousand views, we had three hundred and forty one likes,
thirty eight comments, So that pole is really really taking off.

(04:15):
I love the engagement, and this is what I always say,
I'm just a vehicle. I'm just a vessel. If you
disagree with something, let us know, let us know. I
want to know about it. And if someone said out
there they said DCA is six and oh and they're
still in last place, you know what I understand to
voice it, let me know. Because there's a lot of

(04:36):
engagement with people going back and forth with the one
that I like the most. Is all the height.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
I love it.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
They say talk is cheap. Friday will see the receipts.
I love that what I and I'll tell you I
see the engagement. I see what people are saying, so
I'll go ahead and drop it on out there. So
that's good stuff. I love it. In back season, they
went back and forth. They had a lot of comments,
so you know, I'll have to dig into them at

(05:03):
another time, but I like it. Continue to send the comments.
The engagement. We need that Coachella Valley. Let's know we're
doing right. Let's know what we're doing wrong. You know,
I got thicked skin. If I get something wrong, I
can take it. I can absolutely take it. But let
me get If you've listened to the show enough, you
know I go on these soapboxes.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
I go on these tangents.

Speaker 3 (05:23):
But as we were saying, it was the week seven
Coachella Valley Football poll.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
Number.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
Let's go backwards, so number ten on that pole was
Desert Christian Academy. They defeated Desert Chapel Chapel fifty six
to twenty two. I'll tell you right now, DCA is
still undefeated.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
DCA.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
They are showing up and showing out. Coachella Valley had
no gang, but last week they did beat Desert Mirage.
Next week, on the seventeenth, they'll have Yukka of Valley.
And I got to say this right now. I gotta
say thank you our intern Rila. Oh my goodness, I appreciate.
Did I get the name right? Okay, I got the
name right because I'm known for and she's off camera

(06:06):
now for our audience at home listening.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
You know, we eventually post this on YouTube.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
Just want to make sure I say thank you because
the research she's doing top notch, top notch. I appreciate
it makes my life so much easier than my wife is.
If you see the YouTube, she's running the cameras back there,
so she makes me. It's difficult to make me look good,
but she does so. I appreciate that. I have a
face for radio, so I'm not used to these cameras.
I'm comfortable being on just radio, but now it's TV.

(06:31):
But as we say, Coachella Valley had no game, Banning
defeated twenty nine Palms forty two to twenty two. Yucca
Valley had no game as well. Rancho Mirage. They lost
a Palm Desert and We talked about that a little bit.
The young man, mister Tolan in the building had a
lot to do with that. And Rancho mirage was ranked

(06:51):
number seven, number six, Yuka Valley had no game, like
we said. Rancho Miraje was ranked number six. Ranked number
five was Palm Desert. They beat They beat Rancho miraj
That's a big game right there. That's that's the game
of that qualifies for Game of the Week for sure.
Shadow Heels they lost the Palm Springs twenty one to
forty one. Xavier Prep lost the Lakita twenty eight to fourteen.

(07:14):
Lakina is rolling, Lakita is four and two, and then
Palm Springs defeated Shadow Hills forty one and twenty one.
And this is what I always say, Palm Springs is
still undefeated Palm Springs. A lot of people you you
took shots at us. You took shots at us, and
when Palm Springs became number one, a lot of you said,

(07:36):
should they be number one? They are undefeated there in
league play and they're getting it. And another shot that
you guys took at us is when when the Xager
Prep Lakita because Xavier Prep had a better record and
then everyone said, hey, Lakita shouldn't be ranked as high,
but hey, I said, let it play out on the field.
These these rankings will correct theirselves. So let it play out.

(08:00):
And you can see now had to head and that's
all I can say. Once it gets to league, once
it plays, it will all begin to play itself out.
And since we have the young ladies in studio, cat
City Flag want to make sure that we do their
top five as well for our pole ending in ten
three that was last week. Another pole will be released
on Monday. Xavier Prep was ranked five, Palm Desert was

(08:22):
ranked four, India was ranked three, Desert Hot Spring was
ranked to Shadow Hills was ranked number one. And when
I was saying about the polls, and just know this
coach is not throwing shade, not taking shots. Just let
it play out on the field. Just let it happen
and you guys will see it. And now our volleyball
pole and this pole blew up too. Now this pole.

(08:43):
We released this pole five days ago as well. And
the volleyball pole got over sixteen thousand views, so you
can't beat that. So coming into number ten was Cathedral City.
Number nine is jacka Valley number eight with Shadow Hills.
Number seven was Banning, Number six was DCA, Number five

(09:04):
was Indio. Number four was Coachella Valley. Number three is
Palm Springs, number two is Palm Desert, and number one
is Xavier Prep. Once again, this is Coach Beyond Fox
Sports twelve seventy a m. We're gonna go ahead and
get into some interviews. I want to make sure we
I know, normally we go a little bit longer when
we do the intros and the openings, but we have
a jam packed show today, so I want to make

(09:27):
sure we get our guests in and make sure we
get some good conversations. So we're gonna go ahead and
take a quick commercial break here on Fox Sports Radio.
Once again, this is the Coachella Valley Sports Report. I
am your host, Coach be on Fox Sports Radio. Heard
in Southern California on Fox Sports twelve seventy a m.
And I am heard in Las Vegas on Fox Sports

(09:49):
ninety eight point nine FM. And it's always with streaming
twenty four to seven on the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
This is the Coachella Valley Sports Report on Fox Sports Radio.
Can't get enough for the Coachella Valley Sports Report. Then
make sure you follow us. We're on X and Instagram
at CBSR, Fox Sports.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
This is the Coachella Valley Sports Report. I'm your host,
Coach B on Fox Sports Radio. Heard at Southern California
on Fox Sports twelve seventy a m. And in Las Vegas,
I'm heard on Fox Sports ninety eight point nine FM
and it's always restreaming twenty four to.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
Seven on the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 3 (10:24):
And I gotta say, first and foremost, I stand corrected
because I should have said I should not I call
this young man a running back. I should have just
said athlete, because you're all over the field. And you know,
as I looked at your highlights and I know they
have you you listen as a wide receiver. But when
I look at it, I mean you you're all over
the place. You're every but but please do me the

(10:46):
favor of introducing yourself to the Fox Sports Radio audience.

Speaker 4 (10:49):
What's up? Fox Sports is Jonah Toole receiver dB from
Palm to to high school. And I'll walk number one.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
There you go.

Speaker 3 (10:56):
And I've said this for for a while because I've
had other football coaches in and I said this one
of the things is I look at the highlights and
I see all the film out here. I said that
kid number one at Palm Desert is an athlete. He
is an absolute stud.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
So you are the I.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
Would say you want to you know, I'm not gonna
do it out there. I don't want to upset anybody,
but it never reflects what you do.

Speaker 2 (11:19):
Number one. You're number one.

Speaker 3 (11:21):
Yes, yes, But talk to me a little bit about
the season and how everything's going for you.

Speaker 4 (11:26):
The season's going, I mean, it didn't go how I
expected my senior year. I expected to go ten and zero,
dominate everybody we went against. But we're still four and three.
We're still making it. I feel like we're producing since
the beginning of the season started. We're cleaning up things.
We've been practicing really hard, and I can't wait for
next week's game.

Speaker 3 (11:44):
And then tell me a little bit about that. Now
you're a senior, you've played football. I've heard about you
coaches that said they've coached since you were little, so
they knew that you were going to be something special.
But tell me a little bit about that. Your personal goals.
Do you think you're reaching the personal goals that you
want for years go so fast.

Speaker 4 (12:01):
Yeah, I feel like this year, this season, I'm really
like expanding my game. My last couple of seasons I
couldn't really do that, But I feel like this year
I'm exceeding my goals really well, and I feel like
my stats are going up pretty well for college. So
I just can't wait.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (12:19):
Now, typically when we do this and in for our
radio audience, you won't see it. But when we do
when we put this up on YouTube, I'm gonna run
this highlight of you and people will see it. Uh,
But it's at that highlight of you. This needs to
be a banner or a poster or something. When you're
stretching out and you're reaching for.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
You know what I'm talk to me about that play?
What was that when you got to it? Was that
against your caper?

Speaker 4 (12:39):
I think that was exavier last.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
Okay, Okay, you reached out and you got that. That's
just an instinct for you to get to the end zone.

Speaker 4 (12:47):
It was just I mean we were very close to
the end zone. I knew what I had to do.
I mean I've seen it, like, I've replayed it like
one hundred times. People were calling me Superman just reaching
out trying to get to the end zone as best
as I can.

Speaker 3 (12:59):
Yes, And then you said you're trying to get to
the next level. You want to get to college. Yet
I'm sure you have college is interested in you, not
that we're trying to put you on the spot. You
know you can announce here on Fox Sports ready if
you need to, just give me a call and then
let me know today is not today. But are there
do you have like a top five or a schools
that you are interested in that you're considering.

Speaker 4 (13:19):
I'll say I'm interested in some schools. I don't really
have a top five yet, but I have a couple
of schools interested in me and I can't wait to
talk to them some more.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
Right, get used to them, right in?

Speaker 3 (13:29):
Your dad coaches you, right, So it's kind of like
with my son. You didn't have a choice to play football.
But why do you love football? And what is it
about football that you like so much?

Speaker 4 (13:38):
I love football because I believe I have what it
tastes to make it, and then if you do make it,
you're able to support your family really well. And that's
why I do it. It's bigger than me when I
step on the field, it's for me, my family and
everybody that supports.

Speaker 3 (13:50):
Me, right right, So this season is, like you said,
you four and three and you guys playing that tough
d e L. What are your thoughts about the rest
of the season. I know you guys still have uh
you still have a tough schedule ahead of you, But
tell me what are your what are your expectations for
the rest of the season.

Speaker 4 (14:05):
Is here on out for the rest of the season,
I want to go undefeated for the rest of the season.
B League champions B Palm Springs b l Q B
Shadow Hills next week and yeah, just dominate for the
rest of the season.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
Yeah, that's when you think about that.

Speaker 3 (14:21):
You guys gotta you've got on the sixteenth, you have
Shadow Hills, You're going to be at Shadow you have
Palm Springs at home. That's going to be a big
game game and that that's gonna be a big matchup
with you Andy, go ahead up with each other, and
I'm sure you guys have known each other for years
as well.

Speaker 4 (14:35):
I've been knowing him since I was about twelve years
old ten.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
Right, right, So that's that's pretty cool.

Speaker 3 (14:40):
And then you got like Kenta, which is going to
be a big game also coming down the road.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
So I love to see it. But what is it?
What do you think?

Speaker 3 (14:49):
Uh, when you when you think of your parents and
you have your mom here. I love the shirt that
she's wearing. That's pretty cool to support with your with
your face on it.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
What do you think that? What is your having your
dad co you? How do you think that's helped you
grow your game and get you to where you are now?

Speaker 4 (15:05):
Being my having my dad has my coach my whole life.
It just I feel like it made me more comfortable
to be who I am on the field, to just
show because if you ask my teammates, I'm the biggest
cheerleader on the field. Yes, And I feel like it
really comes from my dad. He's really supportive, really protective
over me. He makes the right calls when I'm on defense.
He knows that I'm capable of things on defense that

(15:26):
a lot of other dudes aren't, So he just he
trusts me a lot.

Speaker 3 (15:29):
Right, So what do you like better? So your wide receiver?
And again I got this right? And and like I said,
I gotta apologize that I called your running back And
the reason I think instinctively I thought running back because
you you can do everything on the offensive side. You
can catch, they pitch you the ball as a man.
That play we did it was a.

Speaker 4 (15:45):
Pitch, Yeah, and I did the Superman.

Speaker 3 (15:47):
Yes, yes, Uh so you can do it all. What
do you prefer you do? Like at the next level?
You have a choice, you or do you want to
do like Travis and do both?

Speaker 5 (15:56):
What mean?

Speaker 4 (15:58):
Yeah? Doing both at the next level would be But
if I hide to two as I all say, receiver,
I just like I like scoring touchdowns more.

Speaker 3 (16:04):
Right, So, since you do play dB when you go
out and you're out there, do you think that gives
you an advantage?

Speaker 2 (16:09):
Because you know what the dB wants to do. You
know that, and that's the thing.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
You know the technique, you know the backpedal, you know
how to get them off of their their rhythm.

Speaker 2 (16:17):
So is that like an advantage to you because you
do it both?

Speaker 4 (16:20):
Yeah, I feel like it is an advantage playing both
sides of the ball. As soon as the you know,
when you're playing that dB, as soon as the receiver breaks,
I feel like you could read it way more. And
I used to play quarterbacks, so I.

Speaker 2 (16:29):
Guess, oh, wow, you do it all.

Speaker 4 (16:30):
Yeah, when I was little, I used to play quarterbacks,
so it just gives me an upper hand on reading
the receivers when I'm playing dB.

Speaker 2 (16:35):
Right, right, do you miss playing QB?

Speaker 1 (16:37):
No?

Speaker 4 (16:37):
Not really, not really, I got you.

Speaker 2 (16:39):
And then one more thing that I want to ask you.

Speaker 3 (16:41):
You know, since you're a senior now you're a class
of twenty six and that just makes me seem feel
so much older now, my goodness, it's being a leader.
What do you think you're trying to instill on your underclassmen?
Because Palm Desert has a rich history tradition, But what
are you trying to instill in them Being a leader,
because you're only as good as your wink is linked

(17:02):
and carrying them and getting them to perform to their
best as.

Speaker 4 (17:05):
Well being a leader. I just want to show the
young kids what it's about. It's not about always winning,
you know, you do love to win, but having fun
is a key role and just being a leader, showing
them how to play, how to be physical, don't be scared.

Speaker 2 (17:20):
And yeah, and last night you guys got that big win.
What was that energy?

Speaker 5 (17:24):
Like?

Speaker 2 (17:25):
Man? I mean, were you out there?

Speaker 4 (17:26):
Did you?

Speaker 2 (17:26):
Were you TikTok in the game? You're thinking about things
like that. We have fun.

Speaker 4 (17:32):
We have fun after the game, we celebrate a little bit.
I want to shout out Julianne. She's always she's always
taken videos of me so and she took the video
after the game. We was all celebrated having fun.

Speaker 3 (17:41):
Yes, yes, she she sent me stuff from the game
last night.

Speaker 2 (17:45):
We still have to chop it up together.

Speaker 3 (17:46):
I mean, she's she's great, and it's and and you
you love to see that talk to me. I'm glad
you mentioned that. What about the support of that community,
I mean Palm Desert. I mean that school is so
supportive of you all win or lose. They are they're
putting you up, hyping you up. What is that like
being a part of a school like that.

Speaker 4 (18:05):
It feels great being a part of school with high intensity.
I want to shout at our student section too. I
feel like we're like the best student section in the
whole Desert. I feel like they do a great job
either if we're winning or losing, they just do a
great job of sewing.

Speaker 2 (18:18):
Is love right? Right? And then and then last thing.

Speaker 3 (18:21):
I always like to ask people, what does the game
of football mean to you?

Speaker 4 (18:25):
It means a lot. I mean, I feel like I
wouldn't be the person who I am without football, just
the way you grow and learn just from football. It
just it means a lot, and I wouldn't I wouldn't
do anything else but football.

Speaker 2 (18:35):
Yeah, that's great man. We love watching you.

Speaker 3 (18:38):
And I know you know your numbers, But do you
know your receiving numbers, touchdown numbers.

Speaker 2 (18:42):
And all that Nah?

Speaker 4 (18:43):
I don't.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
Okay, a lot of times student athletes know all that stuff.
But like you said, we talked about it a little bit.
We talked about your schedule. You guys still have some
big games coming up. You got Shadow coming up Palm Springs.
And you said you and have known each other since
you did you guys play against each other in youth football.

Speaker 4 (19:01):
No, I think we played on the same team, but
I don't think we ever played against each other.

Speaker 3 (19:04):
Okay, got you and then you have Lakey to coming up.
So young man, I, like I said, I've watched you
all season. I knew we were going to get you
in studio. I think I met you at the media day. Yeah, yeah, yes, yes,
oh you.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
Know what I said. That was the last question.

Speaker 3 (19:18):
But I'll ask you this on the the top on
our on our top tier rankings.

Speaker 2 (19:23):
Did we get it right or you know, I just
want to make sure because I know you played both sides.
You were the only Diamond.

Speaker 4 (19:28):
Yeah, I was only diamond.

Speaker 2 (19:30):
Yes, yeah, yes, you guys are okay.

Speaker 3 (19:33):
And so what if people don't understand that when you
look at the rankings, that means that he could have been.
So we we did the rankings and we had kids
on both sides, offense and defense, and he was the
only player that received the prestigious Diamond award. That means
that he could have been on either side. I think
we listed to you on defense defense, but you could
have done offense as well. So so and and you

(19:54):
think about that.

Speaker 2 (19:55):
As good as you.

Speaker 3 (19:56):
Play on offense, we we highlighted you on the defensive side.
So so, like I said, I got it right wide
receiver in dB, and so I want to make sure
I get it right. Like I said, this young man,
I've been watching this highlights all season and when we
met you at the media day, so cordial, so polite.
And I appreciate, Oh, name drop mom and dad, because
you know I had kids in the sports and in

(20:17):
any siblings, So go ahead, name drop those for us.

Speaker 4 (20:20):
My mom's name is Selena Tolan. My dad's name is
James Tolan. My sister's names are Leah, Jada, Kyla Amore,
and my brother's name is James and Jayden. Okay, are
you the oldest now, I'm the youngest of ten? Okay, wow,
the youngest of ten? And are you the best athlete?

Speaker 2 (20:35):
Of course you are. I'm the youngest too, so we
even if we're not the best, we're the best.

Speaker 3 (20:39):
So you can tell them you're the only one that

Speaker 3 (21:59):
This is the Coachella Valley Sports Report. I am your host,
coach be on Fox Sports Radio. Heard in Southern California
on Fox Sports twelve seventy a m. And I'm heard
in Las Vegas on Fox Sports.

Speaker 2 (22:09):
Ninety eight point nine FM.

Speaker 3 (22:11):
And as always, we are streaming twenty four to seven
on the iHeartRadio app. We have a young man in studio.
I gotta say this is I've been on Fox Sports
Radio and I said it ten years now, and I
have never had cross country in studio. So this young
man is the first time I've ever interviewed a cross

(22:31):
country athlete. Please introduce yourself to the Fox Sports Radio audience.

Speaker 7 (22:36):
My name is graceis Simabat. I do cross country at
Zavier College Prep and I was born here in Palm Desert, California.

Speaker 3 (22:42):
Okay, so you're born and raised out here in the valley.
So you decided you said you like doing cross country,
and you decided you wanted to do this in middle school.

Speaker 2 (22:52):
That's right.

Speaker 7 (22:53):
So we did track and field back in middle school,
and honestly, I felt a passion for running, and you know,
cross country just came and I just felt really dedicated
to it. And you know, now, I mean shout out
to our coach, Coach Lines, assistant coaches Coach Emory, and
coach Monica. You know they have been pushing us to
our best and now all the hardware's starting to pay off.

Speaker 3 (23:13):
Right, I tell you, being a sophomore, you are very
polished athlete.

Speaker 2 (23:17):
I didn't speak.

Speaker 3 (23:18):
You know, you wouldn't have wanted to put a mic
in front of me when I was a sophomore in
high school. They would have thrown me off a radio.
But for someone not me, of course, you know, I'm
on Fox Sports Radio. I know everything about sports, so
I'm asking for a friend. This is not me, But
explain to someone what is the difference between cross country
and track and.

Speaker 2 (23:34):
What exactly is cross country? I know it's long running.

Speaker 3 (23:38):
Like I said, this is for me, this for a friend,
But explain to us all what exactly is cross country?

Speaker 7 (23:44):
So a lot of people think that cross country is
just running through miles and you finished the race. But
really it's kind of to challenge your mentality, to challenge it,
like how much discipline you have, and you know, unlike
track and field, it's really just like spread tea and
all that and you and you're just with the rice
playing cross country. You know, it's just you, you battling

(24:05):
with yourself, you know, getting likewithstanding that pin in your
legs and at the end, you know, just finishing the
best you can. You know, you have to have the
mindset where hey, I'm gonna finish this sprace I'm gonna
be everyone. You know, I'm gonna I'm gonna get this PR.
And it really helped me a lot. And you know
that fifth like the PR just got recently that that's

(24:27):
what my mindset was.

Speaker 3 (24:28):
Right, right, And you know, with PR personal record for
people who don't know, And one thing is I knew
your mother.

Speaker 2 (24:34):
We worked together years ago.

Speaker 3 (24:36):
And the funny thing is, so everyone knows you actually
have really you have talent.

Speaker 2 (24:41):
You went as a freshman, you went to the CIF finals.
Talk to me a little bit about as a freshman.
Talk to me about that.

Speaker 7 (24:48):
Yeah, So honestly, if I wouldn't even go to CIF
without my team because they they pushed me really hard
in the workouts, They pushed me really hard during our
long runs and especially the coaches. But you know, it
was a really good feeling. But I felt I felt
like I was wresting too much on those laurels, and
you know, I wasn't really I wasn't really giving my

(25:09):
all as much after that, And so I feel like
that was a lesson to like, you know, there's always
gonna be a target on your back, and you got
to keep on pushing it. You got to keep working
hard so that you can be even better than before
from that. And so that's why one of my goals
is to not wealy make it to CIF, but I
feel that I have confidence in our team that will
be able to make it to state championships.

Speaker 3 (25:30):
And I like it when you think about it, getting
to CIF is not easy. So that is a huge accomplishment,
especially you deal I mean, there are people who run
cross country four years and they could never make it
to CIF. And you did it as a freshman. And
you said you've dealt with some health issues, and you
talk about someone who battles through adversity. You have asthma.
My kids have asthma as well.

Speaker 2 (25:51):
And the funny thing is I don't even have asthma,
but every time I come out here, I have, I know,
a sneeze and a cough and it's just it's a
different environment out here in the Coachella. And then you
said you have a deviated uh septum. So talk to
me a little bit about that and in because I'm
sure there's some athletes out there that are having struggles
as well, and let them know how you've battled through

(26:13):
that and and still have become successful on the on
the other side.

Speaker 7 (26:17):
Honestly, I haven't really thought about about like my my condition,
like in my nose, so you know, I just I
just add to like I can I'm I can beat
these people, Like the number one runner, Luis Fernando. He's
he's really talented, he's amazing, and so in that race,
I kind of I kind of felt like, oh, I
don't know if I can do this because of the

(26:38):
condition of that they I have. But you know, I
stuck with him and I was like, Okay, you know what,
forget that deva set of sept them and I can.
I can be with these athletes and I can compete
with them. And you know, despite all that health issues,
it's not an excuse to just back down from just
running in general. And that's why you know that that
race that helped me remember like doesn't matter what type

(27:01):
of condition, doesn't matter what type of health problem you have,
if you put your mind and heart to it, then
you can compete with anyone.

Speaker 2 (27:07):
Right right.

Speaker 3 (27:08):
And I tell you that's a lesson to adults as well,
because that's one of those things where you just have
to continue to fight through it. And I mean, you're
gonna get some people emotional up in here. But you know,
here's the important thing I need to know about this.
I know we're talking across country, we're talking about you
battling through some stuff, But this is what I need
to know. Why guitar, drums and piano? What made you

(27:29):
want to do that with the instruments? I tried to
play piano once and I gave up after a week.
I's like, this isn't for me. But what I mean
not one instrument, not two instruments, but three instruments you
play talk to me a little bit about the love
for music.

Speaker 7 (27:43):
Honestly, I wanted to find like some hobbyer activity to
do because you know, my parents they didn't want me
to play video games all day. So you know, we
had we had drums like that that Vendre like for
so many years, a piano and a guitar, and then
I was like, hey, dad, can you teach me all this?

Speaker 2 (27:59):
And he plays as well, yeah, oh wow, okay.

Speaker 7 (28:02):
Yeah, And so after that, like I sometimes like maybe
like three times a week, I just like go on
there during my free time just play it, you know,
trying to get better at it. And you know, sometimes
like with my friends. I kind of encourage him to
do and you know, maybe hopefully make a song, but
we'll see.

Speaker 3 (28:19):
Yeah, that'd be pretty cool. I mean, you're being an
only child has that. I'm the youngest of two, so
I always thought about being the only child. You get
everything you want. Man, did you like being the only child?
Did you wish you had siblings or.

Speaker 7 (28:32):
Definitely sometimes I wish I had siblings, you know, just
to just so I talk with, just to be a
social around. But I feel like being an old child
has definitely a lot of benefits, right, you know, just
being like like in the being in the center, man,
not funny for attention. And but at the same time,
you know, a sibling would have helped you so that
I could maybe be like a i don't know, like
a role model to them maybe. And yeah, that so

(28:56):
overall though, I really enjoyed being a holy child.

Speaker 2 (28:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (28:59):
The funny thing is I have a brother, and I
wish I was an only child. But I mean, hey,
big shots out to my brother. But nonetheless, uh, but
you know, it's supportive family. Man, talk to me a
little bit about that, because out here in the Coachella Valley,
like I said, I tell the funny story. When I
first started promoting the radio station, your mom had hit
me up saying, is this Brian such as I want
to put the government name out there. But she was like,

(29:20):
is this such and such that worked here? And I
was like, wait a minute, how did this person know me?
And I found out as your mother and I was like, oh, yeah,
this is me and we used to work together. But
she told me so much about the sports landscape out here,
about cross country and house and she was right because
we just put out the cross.

Speaker 2 (29:36):
Country pole for girls and boys, and the.

Speaker 3 (29:38):
Pole we put out blew up and there is a
huge support for cross country out here.

Speaker 2 (29:43):
But talk about the support of your mom.

Speaker 4 (29:44):
Man.

Speaker 3 (29:44):
She wanted to make sure that we get you coming
out so people know, like we said, as a freshman,
you went to see how your finals, So you are
a stud. So let's let's put that out there. But
tell me a little bit about the support of your
mom and push you along the way.

Speaker 2 (29:56):
Oh yeah, and also from a dam yes your dad
as well. Yes.

Speaker 7 (29:59):
So like every the time I'm always running a race,
like first first time I get into that, like maybe
like staying with a bunch of people. I always hear
her first, like screaming and shouting, and you know, honestly,
it really helps. Like that last race, man, like those
last four hundred meters, I started pushing it, I was,
I was like running and I just kept here like
screaming out my name like go, go, go. And so

(30:21):
that that really helps a lot. And I feel like
that's another another reason why, like I still continue to
do cross country just from the support I get. And
that also goes to my teammates too, you know, so
and my coaches obviously, but yeah, I feel like also
for my dad, he's been he's been like push pushing
me to do my best, not only like in like

(30:41):
physically in sports, but also like academically right, and so
I feel like that built a lot of more discipline
in me. And so that's why I'm really glad that
I had the support of both my mom and dad
and they've helped me a lot throughout throughout my life.

Speaker 2 (30:53):
Let's name drop mom and dad. Oh yeah like like
that yeah, yeah, yeah, name with your mom and dad's name.

Speaker 7 (30:59):
My mom My mom's name is Genie U and my
dad's name's Ramo Sima bet.

Speaker 2 (31:04):
Yeah, there you go.

Speaker 3 (31:05):
And and and That's one of the things when you
when you look at your parents and the way to
support you and I know you, I know you go
to a you go to Xavier Prep, which is a
difficult academic school. So they're supporting you athletically, they're supporting
you academically. I mean, you are a very very well
rounded young man, and I am I am inspired by you.

(31:25):
You make me think, I mean, what, offhand, do you
know your GPA?

Speaker 2 (31:30):
No? Okay, well I can tell you mine was negative.
So but nonetheless, you're very inspiring. Love what you doing.

Speaker 3 (31:39):
You're only a sophomore, so you've got years and years
to go and grow and develop. So if you make
that CIF again, we got to bring you back in.
We got to talk more about CI cross country and
I like the way you you articulated it, you educated
it to me. So if just so I know cross country. Oh,
I'm sorry, this is not for me. I'm asking for
a friend. So cross country is just one race? And
how many miles is it?

Speaker 4 (32:00):
Uh?

Speaker 7 (32:00):
Approximately three miles?

Speaker 2 (32:02):
Three miles? What's your what's your your? Your personal best.

Speaker 7 (32:06):
Currently fifteen minutes and thirty nine seconds.

Speaker 3 (32:08):
Oh, Mike, I couldn't run a mile in fifty in
fifteen minutes and thirty nine seconds. Man, congratulations young man.
I love to see what you're doing. So happy you
came in, great interview. Anything else you want to say
before before we wrap it up?

Speaker 7 (32:23):
This is my advice to like other people running. Yes, yeah, man,
it doesn't matter if you like finish last or if
you finish first minute, if you just keep pushing hard
in the race and you know that you do your best,
like that's a read an accomplishment too. And I just
want to say to all the athletes, like next season,
it's like the competition just gets more more challenging and
more fun, you know. Can can I list a few people?

Speaker 2 (32:45):
Oh yeah, go ahead, this is your this is your moment,
going ahead.

Speaker 7 (32:48):
From Palm Desert, man Sea, Best Shadow Hills, Demetris Ranch, Mirage,
Michael Hernandez and from Lakinta Alejandro and I know that
next year they're gonna be really a.

Speaker 8 (32:59):
Really tough competition for sure.

Speaker 2 (33:01):
I've seen it.

Speaker 7 (33:01):
I've seen all their times, I see all the hard
work they do on the app man, So yeah, shout
out to them and and my team obviously Kill and Jake,
Isaiah Dom and Palmer who recently he's an upcoming freshman,
so yeah, all of them, they're going to be really amazing,
not with this season, but also the upcoming season.

Speaker 2 (33:20):
We have, right, and your season's going now? Correct? Oh yeah?
And when? So when is your next meet or match
or race?

Speaker 7 (33:27):
Are NeXT's going to be next Saturday? So yeah, so
we took a break for like maybe like a week.

Speaker 3 (33:33):
Yes, so we got to you on the perfect Saturday.
You're right, okay, perfect, So keep me in the loop,
let me know how everything goes. I definitely want to
continue to get more involved with the cross country in
the track scene. We're trying to do some things out here.
So this is inspiring. Now I know that you can
run three miles faster than I can probably run a
half a mile.

Speaker 2 (33:53):
Are you going?

Speaker 3 (33:54):
Do you have a goal to do a marathon or
anything like that or a cross country about it?

Speaker 7 (33:58):
Just focusing on across country. Then we'll see what happens
in the future.

Speaker 3 (34:01):
Yeah, yeah, excellent. So thank you so much for coming
in Grayson. And then the correct way to say your
last name again, because I mess up my own last.

Speaker 7 (34:09):
Name, Simbabat.

Speaker 3 (34:11):
There you go, there you go, I mess up my
own last name. So I want to make sure I
have you do it right. So thank you so much
for coming in. We greatly appreciate you. Phenomenal young man,
amazing young man. We'll be right back and next we
have coming up Cathedral City Girls flag football, So we
appreciate you.

Speaker 7 (34:31):
Mister Grayson, sir, thank you for the opportunity.

Speaker 2 (34:33):
Thank you, thank you. This is the Coachella Valley Sports Report.

Speaker 3 (34:36):

And I'm HEARDing in Las Vegas on Fox Sports ninety
eight point nine FM. And as always, we are streaming
twenty four to seven on the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (34:50):
This is the Coachella Valley Sports Report on Fox Sports Radio.
Can't get enough of the Coachella Valley Sports Report, then
make sure you follow us. We're on X and Instagram
at CBSR Fox Sports.

Speaker 3 (35:05):
This is the Coachella Valley Sports Report. I am your host,
Coach B on Fox Sports Radio, heard in Southern California
on Fox Sports twelve seventy a m. And I'm heard
in Las Vegas on Fox Sports ninety eight point nine FM.
We have one of the talents. Oh, we heard twenty
four seven on the iHeartRadio app. We have one of
the talents in the Coachella Valley. We have the cat

(35:28):
City Lions girls flag football team. We have coach in
studio as well. Coach by all means, go ahead and
introduce yourself to the Fox Sports Radio audience.

Speaker 2 (35:38):
A's it going.

Speaker 9 (35:39):
My name Isaiah Subge, first year coaching the girls flag
football A. It's a it's an experience that's for share.

Speaker 3 (35:46):
Yes, And you know one thing that I always ask
because we've had flag football's fairly new.

Speaker 2 (35:50):
I think this is the second third year has been
saying second, yeah, second year.

Speaker 3 (35:54):
When whenever we have like the girls basketball team in
or the volleyball team in girls sports, they're more fundamentally sound.
Have you seen that because they focus more on the fundamentals.
I don't know if it's because a newer sport, but
they focus more on the fundamentals than maybe the athleticism.
But which would you should focus on because you want
to be fundamentally sound, which gives you better football?

Speaker 2 (36:15):
Have you noticed that? Because have you coached tackle and flag?

Speaker 1 (36:18):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (36:18):
So I've coached tackle for the last seven years.

Speaker 2 (36:20):
Okay, and like.

Speaker 9 (36:22):
I said, my first year of coaching flag and fundamentals
is everything.

Speaker 8 (36:25):
It's key every day I practice. It's catching.

Speaker 9 (36:28):
That's our biggest biggest thing right now, catching catching the football.
Learn how to catch, learn how to run the routes.
They pick it up fairly, fairly fast. Actually they understand it.
It's just very like I said, very uh hmm. Like
A good way to explain it for them is an
It's an experience that you have to be very patient with.

Speaker 4 (36:50):
Right.

Speaker 2 (36:50):
It's probably a new experience for them because like my daughter,
she graduated in eighteen, and her brothers, her two brothers
play football, but she she cheered, so she wasn't able
to do it, so it's a fail. I know there's
been girl.

Speaker 3 (37:02):
Flag or like club teams around and I'll ask you
one why the transition from tackle to flag and what
difference have you noticed between the two.

Speaker 9 (37:11):
So the transition for me was I was kind of
already leading to like, you know, getting out of the
tackle football world, especially because I have a baby, things
like that. But then I've always seen them practicing. I
was like, man, that'd be cool to go over there,
help out a little bit, you know, clean some things.
Up that'd be cool to see. And then I got
the opportunity. Once I left the last year tackle, the

(37:33):
coach the league called me. He was like, hey, how
would you like going out there? And I was like,
I definitely like to go out there.

Speaker 8 (37:37):
Why not?

Speaker 2 (37:38):
You know?

Speaker 9 (37:39):
And then first year coming out, I see the talent
that we have. I see the potential and just very
very hungry to get them better.

Speaker 3 (37:46):
Right, was there anything that you were thinking of so
oh I didn't expect this or did they like or
did they pick up your office? Because I know when
I coached youth football, that's why they call me coach
b and I as I had to coach challenge me
and said, because I coached the seven and eight and
I didn't want to it in a really complicated offense,
they're too young to pick it up. And then my
buddy was coaching five and six with my younger son
and they were doing no huddle, they were doing sprinting.

(38:07):
I was like, oh my god, but you ever have
an AHA moment like yeah, these young ladies can do.

Speaker 8 (38:12):
This A big one.

Speaker 9 (38:14):
Yes started off saying, you know what, let's just one defense,
eight plays on offense. Let's work our bread and butter
and I was like, we can get fancy later once
they're able to pick it up. And that was my mindset,
once they're able to learn, once they're able to pick
it up. Man, it was a it was a very

(38:34):
a very humbling moment when they were like, hey, coach,
we need something more more than this.

Speaker 8 (38:38):
This is this is not this is not.

Speaker 9 (38:39):
Flashy enough first, this isn't We're capable of doing way
more than this. And I was like, oh, all right,
well hey, let's open the playbook then and just eye opening.

Speaker 8 (38:49):
Man, great experience.

Speaker 3 (38:50):
As a coach for you. That had to be humbling
to see that that they're getting. I mean, one they're
they're taking your direction and two they're picking it up.
That had to be a humbling experience for you.

Speaker 8 (38:59):
It was very humbling. And they do more than that.
They challenge me as a coach. And that's the cool part.

Speaker 9 (39:04):
I've I've coached a long time and football, I never
been challenged this way. They're challenging me every day I practice,
Hey coach, what do we do here?

Speaker 2 (39:12):
Hey?

Speaker 9 (39:12):
Coaches are a different way. I could run this route
to pull the safety this way, and I'm just looking at.

Speaker 8 (39:17):
Them like, yeah, you know what cool.

Speaker 2 (39:19):
Let's do.

Speaker 8 (39:19):
Let's brainstorm.

Speaker 2 (39:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (39:20):
I love it, man, I love it.

Speaker 3 (39:21):
That's good stuff. And we have your young ladies with you.
I love the jerseys, really nice jerseys.

Speaker 2 (39:26):
Good jersey.

Speaker 3 (39:27):
We have our first young We have five of your
players with you. Who the all did you bring with
you today?

Speaker 2 (39:30):
Coach?

Speaker 9 (39:31):
I kind of give you guys, A you know, a
little different spill.

Speaker 8 (39:36):
Right here, we got our freshman Bela.

Speaker 9 (39:38):
She's some of the best catching ability I've seen in
a long time, diving for footballs, things like that. That's
that's her forte right there. Difficult catching, that's what we
go with. We got our senior right here. We got
Kira defensive monster.

Speaker 3 (39:53):
Man.

Speaker 9 (39:53):
Talk about physicality. I know flag football is not supposed
to be yes, but that's that's the physical you can
get it.

Speaker 2 (40:00):
Right there.

Speaker 9 (40:00):
We at least get one warning the game. I don't
mind it, you know, let's take it. Then we got
Paul that right here, born leader. I call her the
mom of the team.

Speaker 8 (40:10):
Right here. Everybody's in line because of this one, right okay.

Speaker 3 (40:13):
Then we did the drop this morning. She made sure
she probably leaves the TikTok. I'm sure the Instagram.

Speaker 9 (40:21):
Yeah, so these two right here are our seniors.

Speaker 8 (40:25):
Okay, so how to bring them in and show you guys,
you know, the the power squad that we have of
our leaders. And then we have our junior right here,
which is our other, which is our other her name Issa, sorry.

Speaker 9 (40:38):
And then we have our quarterback right here who is
also a junior, and this is Daisy.

Speaker 3 (40:42):
Okay, okay, Actually we'll bring our first young lady up
first and foremost. I know, coach, you don't like you
didn't want the hats because you said no hats. But
it's a Dodger hat. You gotta let it slide, you.

Speaker 8 (40:51):
Know, hey, I let it slide because of you. I'll
say that.

Speaker 2 (40:54):
I will say that it's a Dodger's hat. Let us slide.
So go ahead and introduce yourself to the Fox Sports
radio him Isabella Delon.

Speaker 5 (41:02):
This is my first year playing flag football in high
school and I'd say it's a pretty good experience and
we're working really good as a team to build the
strength and power that we have.

Speaker 2 (41:12):
And you know, I get it.

Speaker 3 (41:14):
I get the doctor hat now because you played softball, yes,
but now you got asked to play baseball.

Speaker 2 (41:20):
What do you do?

Speaker 3 (41:21):
Which wort and your coaches here, remember that, which wor
do you like better? A softball are our flag?

Speaker 5 (41:27):
I'd say flag is a lot faster, and it's more experience,
and it's really like you don't have to come out
there and know everything. You get to learn everything with
everybody else. But I'd say, right now, softball is my favorite,
But I have more fun playing flag with these girls
and getting to know them more and getting to bond

(41:49):
as a team and push through the season with them.

Speaker 3 (41:53):
There you go, and you said one of your biggest
accomplishments being a freshman playing on varsity. Yes, now, when
I was a senior, they wouldn't let me play freshmen.

Speaker 2 (42:01):
I mean that shows you what my talent level was.
But how is this season? You don't have to laugh
that hard, but tell me how is.

Speaker 3 (42:10):
This season gone for you? Being a freshman, this is
your first time playing flag.

Speaker 5 (42:14):
I played for a club in sixth grade, but it
was only for one season.

Speaker 3 (42:18):
So okay, So are you shocked on how well you've
been playing this year at the high school level on varsity.

Speaker 5 (42:25):
Yes, I'm very shocked. I really didn't think I was
gonna make varsity freshman year because I don't know, maybe
they need a little bit of help on JV, but
it's been amazing. Like I said, I've had to, like
I've got to grow with these girls, and playing with
them really shows me like the potential that we have.
And it just I feel like I feel very grateful

(42:46):
to be on the team as a freshman. Yes, it's
a lot, but it's very good.

Speaker 2 (42:51):
And you said one of the challenges is keeping up
with your schedule. You're talking about your school schedule everything. Yeah,
and that's gotta be tough.

Speaker 3 (42:57):
How do you balance that because I mean going into
high school, I know with me it was it was
a change because when you get to the high school,
they don't handhold you as much. So what was that
like because you were a freshman, what was that like,
that transition being an athlete trying to.

Speaker 2 (43:09):
Keep up with school? What did you do to help
you with your schedule?

Speaker 5 (43:13):
I mean, it is a very big transition from middle
school to high school. Seeing that schedule, I really didn't
think I was gonna be able to put up with
all that, But it's fairly easy. Just trying to convince
yourself that you can do it. Like, you just have
to keep up with it and make sure you're on
top of everything. It's very easy, though, you just have
to have that mindset, you know.

Speaker 2 (43:31):
Yes, and I'll ask you this. I know, we don't
know who we're gonna play yet or the Dodger sweep
in the next series. I mean, that's what I'm talking about.
We're getting another one, right.

Speaker 4 (43:39):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (43:40):
Are you sad as me that Clayton is leaving? This
is it for no?

Speaker 5 (43:44):
Yeah? It broke my heart like.

Speaker 8 (43:46):
Hearing that leave.

Speaker 2 (43:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (43:47):
Yeah, he's no man, he was. He's like me. He
was born last century, so he's getting older. My daughter
told me that one time. She said, you were born
last century.

Speaker 2 (43:55):
Dad.

Speaker 3 (43:55):
I was like, thank you, I appreciate it. Yeah, that
that hurt a little bit, but it is what it is.
So she was like eight nine years old, she said, Dad,
you were born last century.

Speaker 2 (44:03):
Thank you. I appreciate it. I appreciate that.

Speaker 3 (44:06):
But congratulations, young lady. We'll be watching you as you
got three more years to go. Yes, we'll continue watching
you along your way.

Speaker 2 (44:14):
Thanks go Dodgers, thank you. Yes, yes, and it will
bring our next young young lady up. Go ahead and
introduce yourself to the Fox Sports Radio audience.

Speaker 10 (44:23):
I'm a name Scar Washington. I'm a senior. This is
my second year playing flag football.

Speaker 2 (44:27):
How now, what made you you were? You did Powerpuff?

Speaker 3 (44:30):
So so powderpuff is where you guys go out and
play that.

Speaker 2 (44:34):
That's flag as well, right, yeah.

Speaker 10 (44:35):
It's flag, but it's against your own school.

Speaker 3 (44:37):
Yes, yes, I remember when I was in high school,
I was a powerpuff coach. So, so is that something
that ignited you that make you want to want to
play flag football?

Speaker 10 (44:47):
Yeah? I saw it, I think at another school my
freshman year, and I was talking to the football coach
about it. Since freshman year and sophomore years when we
finally had our first one, and I think after that moment,
I fell in love with the sport and I just
wanted to do everything to do with that spot.

Speaker 3 (45:01):
So when you were junior you played on Powderpuff. Did
the other girls say that's unfair she is a flag
football player and you just dominated the game?

Speaker 2 (45:09):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (45:09):
No, yes, And then I'll ask you this one big
thing about you. We got a superstar amongst us. You
were in a Super Bowl commercial. Talk to me a
little bit about that and how did that come about.

Speaker 10 (45:21):
Honestly, I did not know what to put for that,
but I remember I was younger, and it was for
the Old Spaghetti Factory and it was during a flag
football is like on halftime and they have the commercial.
I just thought it was really interesting.

Speaker 3 (45:32):
Yes, okay, okay, that's good stuff. And then you say,
when you're playing, you try not to let the last
play bother you. So talk a little bit about that.
Is that something you say just continue to play on
and you don't you try not to get distracted.

Speaker 10 (45:45):
Yes, I my coach Zay, he always tells me it's
a next play kind of game, like, never let the
last play affect your next play. Yes, do better, next play,
next play, next play. So I tried to let the
last play get to me and do better.

Speaker 2 (45:59):
Yes, yeah, that's good. That's a good mindset to have.

Speaker 3 (46:02):
And then you know, getting those flags can be difficult
because you see everybody spinning and whatnot.

Speaker 2 (46:06):
But how do you think your season? You're a senior.
I know that was a quick ride for you.

Speaker 10 (46:10):
Right, yeah it was unfortunately.

Speaker 3 (46:12):
Yeah, yeah, I couldn't wait to get out. But they
didn't like me at school.

Speaker 2 (46:16):
But that was just me.

Speaker 3 (46:17):
But but talk to me about your season, is how
was it gone for you or even your career?

Speaker 10 (46:22):
My season I think has been going fairly well. I
last year I did not even touch offense and I
was only defense, and this year I'm both and I
love both sides of the ball. I love catching the flags,
I love catching the ball, I love chasing people and
it's really fun all around.

Speaker 2 (46:42):
Well, congratulations, young lady.

Speaker 3 (46:44):
I didn't know we had a star amongst us on
super low commercials. Congratulations, and we'll continue to watch you all.
Thank you, and then we bring our next young lady.
And this is that you said she's the mom of
the team.

Speaker 2 (46:55):
Okay, all right, excellent, Please introduce yourself to the Fox
Sports Radio audience.

Speaker 11 (47:00):
Hi, my name is Maria.

Speaker 2 (47:02):
Okay, excellent.

Speaker 3 (47:03):
And first of all, since you you kind of facilitate
and make sure, did you guys organize the TikTok for
the morning yet yet?

Speaker 2 (47:10):
Okay, so you guys that's coming. Yeah, of course. Excellent.
So talk to me a little bit about about flag football.
What is it about it that you love about this game?
And that big smile. I know you you changed when
you get out there. Look at that big smile.

Speaker 3 (47:23):
And for everyone on radio can't see it, they'll see
when we do the video podcast.

Speaker 11 (47:28):
So I just I've always been like the type of
girl to love like guy like sports, so I was
always like, oh, I would always like try to do
like guide things because I'm just like a unique person.
I'm like, I'm not going to do all girly things.
I was like, that's not my thing. I'm like I

(47:49):
even tried to do wrestling and I was like, I
fell in love with it, but then I was injured
so I couldn't do it. But doing flag I'm like,
I love it. I fell in love with it. Like
this's my second year, so I fell in love with
it last year. And then sometimes I even tell coaches,
I'm like, could we just like tackle a little bit?

Speaker 2 (48:04):
Belease like tackle?

Speaker 11 (48:06):
Yes, Unfortunately we can't.

Speaker 3 (48:08):
Yes, Right, And then talk to me a little bit
about that you played powder Puff as well.

Speaker 2 (48:12):
Did you dominate the game? And everyone say that's not
fair because she she can really play this game.

Speaker 11 (48:17):
It's a little bit, but it was like it was
just like a good, fun little game against like our
school and stuff. So it was just like a good experience.
And then we went to flag football, so it was
like a good start for flag.

Speaker 3 (48:27):
Football, right, And you said one of the things that
your challenges. You wanted to learn more about the game.

Speaker 2 (48:31):
Do you think that you've learned more about flag and
everything that you need to know that dominated?

Speaker 11 (48:36):
Oh, definitely yes. Like last year. Last year I did
know some things, but just like I did learn the
basics but not as well. But this year it was
like whoa like I learned so much about it as well.

Speaker 3 (48:47):
Right, and you have a unique thing. You said you
want to become a firefighter. Yes, okay, excellent, So first
of all, how do you do that? How do you
accomplish that? Do you go because she said you're going
to go to COD Do they have a program there
for that.

Speaker 11 (48:59):
Or do you have to and you want no, I'm
actually actually today I'm in the cadet program. So I
just came from that as well. So I rushed from
my meeting toory here.

Speaker 2 (49:09):
Well thank you.

Speaker 11 (49:10):
Yes, So I'm in the cadet program. So that's like
a good start until becoming a firefighter. It opens like
a lot of a lot of like paths. And then
I could talk to the chief, the chief just like
he could open us a great path. So then I'll
go into their COD to do my EMT and then
my paramedic and then just forward from there.

Speaker 3 (49:30):
Yeah, so I know they were just talking about the
things in the Pacific Palisades and then Paradise up north
to the whole city burn. Do you ever look at
that and say, I can't wait to get out there
and help help these people and be a part of that,
because firefighter, that's a great.

Speaker 8 (49:42):
Career, honestly.

Speaker 11 (49:43):
Yeah, it's like sometimes like even when it comes to fires,
like last year when we had like this huge fire
up here like in him and you know, yes, oh
I was. I would look at it and I would
tell my mom, I'm like, I can't be I can't
wait to be out there. She was like, no, don't
say that. I'm like, but it's for real, Like I
can't wait to be out there right right.

Speaker 3 (50:02):
Absolutely, Well, we're gonna continue to watch you. And you
said you wanted to one of the big accomplishments is
in the season with your team. You guys have finished
the season completely now, correct or you still have a game?

Speaker 2 (50:13):
Okay? Who do you guys have up next?

Speaker 11 (50:15):
DHS?

Speaker 3 (50:15):
DHS, And you said your goal is to finish the
season strong.

Speaker 2 (50:19):
Yes, of course, excellent.

Speaker 3 (50:21):
Do you think you've done everything you want to do?
You're a senior now or you still got more to.

Speaker 11 (50:24):
Go, still got more to go?

Speaker 2 (50:26):
Excellent, actual, congratulations, young lady.

Speaker 3 (50:29):
I appreciate you've coming. Thanks for making time from your
college program to get over here. That is that is,
that is I love that. That's great to hear. You
got a busy, busy team and you have one two
more young ladies coming up, so please, by all means, introduce.

Speaker 2 (50:45):
Yourself to the Fox Sports Radio audience.

Speaker 12 (50:48):
Hello, and this is my second year playing flag football.

Speaker 3 (50:52):
Excellent, and I'll have you come up a little bit
closer to them. If you want to put on the headphones,
you can't because what you hear on the headphones is
what the world hears. So you can go ahead and
slap those on and you're going to cod as well.
But talk to me a little bit about your season
and how do you think you've performed this year.

Speaker 12 (51:07):
Well, I would say that the season has been really
good this year. I feel like the girls have put
in a lot of effort and I think we just
have a great team this year. We've we've had some
ups and downs, but I would say that our outcomes
have been great so far, even though not every outcome
is what we wanted. But I would say that a
lot of girls have put in a lot of effort

(51:27):
into this year.

Speaker 2 (51:28):
And I would say there's a politician on every team.
So when she runs for president, she's going to be there.
Are you a student council?

Speaker 3 (51:34):
So I mean she articulated that so well, Coach, that
sounds like the future a president of the United States.
But and you said that you can play pretty much
any position they put you at. So you you what
position do you play?

Speaker 2 (51:48):
Well?

Speaker 12 (51:48):
For offense, I play running back or they put me
as wide receiver. And for defense, I play safety or corner.
But coach day asked me to play any position. I'll
play that position. He just hasn't let me know, and
I'll do it.

Speaker 3 (52:01):
Yeah, So that that they call that an athlete, so
she can do everything, So that that's pretty cool. So
tell me a little bit about it. You learned the
different sports you said you played. Did you play the
game the Powerpuff last year or yes? So what what
made you love this game and make you want to play?
Did you play any other sports or is this the
only sport?

Speaker 12 (52:17):
I played soccer as well, But.

Speaker 2 (52:22):
So you went from football to football?

Speaker 8 (52:24):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (52:25):
Okay, So when when you do that.

Speaker 3 (52:26):
I love asking soccer players this because you have to
have great hand eye coordination. Do you think that helps
you on the having that that? I the vision and
soccer can help you with this game because you because
as a running back you have to have a great vision.

Speaker 12 (52:41):
I would say yeah, but like I feel like both
sports have their different types.

Speaker 7 (52:46):
Of like.

Speaker 2 (52:49):
Challenges exactly, yes.

Speaker 12 (52:51):
And I would say like soccer is more like you
have to move the ball with your feet and football
is more with your hands. So I'd say like, yeah,
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (53:01):
Yeah, no, it's all good. Different, it's all good. I'll
ask you what is it? What is it about this game?

Speaker 3 (53:07):
Because you know, for years, like I said, my daughter
couldn't play the game, but now the young ladies are
playing at the high school, they're getting scholarships. What do
you love most about playing this game? Is it your teammates?
What is it about this game.

Speaker 2 (53:18):
That you love?

Speaker 12 (53:19):
I would say the adrenaline that you get when people
are standing in front of you and it's like what
do I do? What's the next play? Like I'm gonna
catch ball? Like I don't know, you know, I think
the routes, running, it's just everything the adrenaline that you
get throughout the game.

Speaker 3 (53:32):
Yes, and you're what they call an athlete. She could
play all all positions out there?

Speaker 2 (53:37):
What all? Do you know?

Speaker 3 (53:37):
What all positions you've played? You're running back? Now, what
other positions.

Speaker 2 (53:40):
Have you played?

Speaker 12 (53:41):
I've played a little bit of eything. I played right
with Stiver, safety corner.

Speaker 2 (53:47):
Well, you've done it all. Do you like offensive defense more?

Speaker 8 (53:54):
You can answer answer honestly, you're right.

Speaker 12 (53:56):
I'd say I think offense just because I get more,
like more of the opportunity to get the ball and
score a touchdown.

Speaker 3 (54:04):
Do you have a dance? We gotta work on that.
We gotta work on that. Well, congratulations young lady on
your season. We'll continue to watch you as you continue.
Are thank you, and we have one more of your
teammates in here. We have one more young lady coming up,
and you can put on the headphones if you like,
and please introduce yourself to the Fox Sports Come up
on the mic.

Speaker 2 (54:24):
Introduce yourself to the Fox Sports radio audience.

Speaker 6 (54:26):
My name is Daisy Ruiz. I'm sixteen years old. I
play flag football and basketball and.

Speaker 2 (54:33):
Okay, so and your QB right, yes, and.

Speaker 3 (54:38):
Golf is number sixteen right, I believe so, yes, yes,
for the Detroit Lions is number sixteen as well.

Speaker 2 (54:45):
He's their quarterback. What do you like about playing quarterback?

Speaker 6 (54:50):
Well, there's a lot of things. I'm like the center
of attention and stuff like that.

Speaker 2 (54:55):
Okay, no, no, it's all good, all good.

Speaker 6 (55:00):
Well, I do have a really good arm, so I
could talk to anybody. And well, yeah, I have many options.

Speaker 2 (55:06):
Did you play before or is this the first time
you played QB?

Speaker 6 (55:09):
This is my first year playing QB. Last year I
played safety and they wanted me to be QB, but
I was a little nervous.

Speaker 3 (55:17):
Okay, well yeah, since you played safety, do you know
how to how to debate the safety so you can
get to your receivers like the pump fake and stuff
like that because you know the safeties might jump.

Speaker 5 (55:27):
Well, I wasn't really good at safety last year.

Speaker 2 (55:30):
Okay.

Speaker 6 (55:34):
I like my positions now because I know exactly what
to do and whatever my coach tells me to do.

Speaker 4 (55:40):
I do it.

Speaker 6 (55:41):
And if I don't, if I do make mistakes, I
learned from them and I make it better.

Speaker 2 (55:46):
Right.

Speaker 3 (55:46):
And you said you can play any position that they'll
put you at. Yes, yes, And what you said one
of the one of your accomplishments.

Speaker 2 (55:53):
What are your challenges?

Speaker 3 (55:54):
Was learning a different sport because you played basketball, so
it's a it's a different What position do you play
in basketball?

Speaker 6 (56:00):
Point guard? I believe, I'm not sure.

Speaker 2 (56:02):
Okay, no, no, all good? All good? What what's your
your coaches here? Where do you like more? Well?

Speaker 6 (56:09):
So far, I like flag football, okay, but last year
I did love basketball because I was with all my seniors. Well,
I'm not sure how it's going to go this year,
but I hope it does.

Speaker 2 (56:21):
And what grade are you in?

Speaker 6 (56:22):
I'm a junior.

Speaker 2 (56:23):
You're a junior, okay.

Speaker 3 (56:24):
And then just a side note the promotion, Uh, make
sure cat City the basketball coach, that we have our
media day coming up on the eighth, and that's going
to be a Palm Desert, so we'd love to have
cat City basketball there as well. So just want to
let that be known. All right, Now back to regularly
scheduling programs. But you you played powder Puff as well,
so you guys probably noither.

Speaker 2 (56:45):
You guys must have all went out and dominated that
powder Puff game. Yes, now do when you guys.

Speaker 3 (56:50):
Were playing, did you tell people, hey, you know what
you need to be on the team next year, like you,
you're pretty good at this, so recruit some of those players.

Speaker 5 (56:56):
Yes, we did.

Speaker 6 (56:58):
Most of the players that we're playing the powder Puff
last year did play this year?

Speaker 2 (57:03):
Okay, last year? Okay, I'm sure your head coach is
excited about that.

Speaker 3 (57:07):
Like, yeah, if you see some talent out there, make
sure they come over here and play on this game.

Speaker 2 (57:11):
Excellent.

Speaker 3 (57:11):
Well, congratulations, young lady. Oh I'll ask you, do you
think you've reached all your goals? I know you're junior,
you have one more year ago. Did you reach all
your goals for this year?

Speaker 2 (57:20):
Yes?

Speaker 7 (57:21):
I did, I did.

Speaker 2 (57:22):
Excellent.

Speaker 3 (57:23):
Well, congratulations, young lady. Thank you so much for coming in.
We certainly appreciate you.

Speaker 2 (57:28):
And then I'm not a Detroit Lion fan, but I'm
pretty sure Jared Goff is number sixteen, so it's been
cool to have a Lions and then your quarterback is
number sixteen.

Speaker 8 (57:35):
Honestly, it didn't even click until you said it, right.

Speaker 3 (57:38):
Yes, yes, yes, yes, So congratulations on that, young lady.
And then we'll bring your coach back on in great
great squad of young ladies you have here.

Speaker 2 (57:46):
Coach.

Speaker 8 (57:46):
I appreciate that, thank you.

Speaker 2 (57:47):
Yes, yes, and you guys got a couple more games
to go. We got one.

Speaker 9 (57:51):
We got our last one coming up on Wednesday, Senior Night. Actually,
so we got it. We got to show and show out.
I told him it doesn't matter what the outcome is.
As long as we go out there, we try, we fight.

Speaker 8 (58:01):
That's all. That's all I can ask for.

Speaker 2 (58:02):
And you guys, are you're not senior heavy, are you?

Speaker 8 (58:05):
No, we're not.

Speaker 9 (58:05):
We only have five seniors, okay, so we're here to stay.

Speaker 2 (58:09):
Yes, yes, many. How many young ladies do you have
on your roster total?

Speaker 8 (58:13):
We have a grand total twenty six.

Speaker 2 (58:15):
Twenty six and only five seniors. Yeah, and you guys
had a really good year.

Speaker 8 (58:18):
We had a really good year.

Speaker 2 (58:20):
Yeah, good stuff.

Speaker 3 (58:20):
And then also, just so you know, next year we
did the football media day, We'll make sure that the
young ladies are included, okay, because that's one of the things.
After we did and everything got rolling, I said, yeah,
we got bring the young ladies in. Like I always
say this, my first born was a girl, and she
lets me know, first of all, I was born last
century and two. She always says, you have to make
sure you're doing the same for the young ladies. That

(58:41):
you're doing for the young men, so hold me to that.

Speaker 2 (58:44):
Everyone. So I'll tell you right now, get in my
DMS everything.

Speaker 3 (58:47):
Say hey, coach B you said you know so next year,
so make sure you all let me know.

Speaker 2 (58:51):
But we'll make sure we get the young ladies out
there involved as well.

Speaker 8 (58:53):
Definitely don't worry. I'll remind you myself too.

Speaker 2 (58:55):
That there you go, there you go.

Speaker 3 (58:57):
Well, congratulations coach, thanks so much, and we appreciate we
reached out. You immediately responded, immediately brought the young ladies in,
so we appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (59:04):
Coach.

Speaker 3 (59:04):
She didn't want to get in a picture's like, no,
this is and I like that you weren't one of
those coaches that had to force your way. And she's like, no,
this is their moment. Let them do the thing when
we did the video work and everything. So that's pretty cool.

Speaker 2 (59:15):
My time.

Speaker 9 (59:15):
My time's done, man, you know, I had my time,
I did my pictures all that. I want them to
feel the experience that the boys feel that. I told
them that all season, like, hey, you know what, from
