Speaker 2 (00:34):
Coach B is the man.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
Let's get started.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
This is the Coachella Valley Sports Report. I am your host,
Coach B on Fox Sports Radio heard in Southern California
Fox Sports twelfth seventy AM and I'm heard in Las
Vegas on Fox Sports ninety eight point nine FM and
as always, we're streaming twenty four to seven on the
iHeartRadio app. I'm excited we have a jam packed show
(01:03):
today in studio. Because we are so jam packed, we're
gonna cut down on the uh the on my They're
gonna take away my time, but we're gonna shorten the
intro that we typically give you. But what we're gonna
do is we're going to uh tell you who we
got first of all, let me first things first, if
if you're a fan, I know we're I'm still new
(01:24):
here CV uh No, I'm new to the valley. But
if you listen to the show and you're a fan,
you know I can get on these soap boxes and
I'll go off the road and off the rails and whatnot.
But just reel me in, CV, real me in. Make
sure I stay on task and make sure I get
the mission that we have to do. And what I
have to do is let you know who we have
(01:45):
in the building. We've already had them and we have
exavier prep.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
Girls flag football and is it just me or its
flag football? Totally completely, an absolute blowing up so fairly
new sport. Is only the second year that it's been sanctioned.
But you have you may have heard of them. There's
an organization called the Los Angeles Rams. They are really
involved with girls flag football and I love to see it.
(02:14):
I'm all for it. My firstborn was my daughter, So
I had a daughter and the two boys, and my
two boys played tackle football in high school. I wish
my daughter could have played as well. That had been
so cool if all of them could have played football.
But I tell you, girls flag football is absolutely taken off.
I love to see it. I'm here for it because
(02:36):
I am as in the in the words of the
late great Kobe Bean Bryant, I am a hashtag girl dad.
So that is me. So Xager Prep Girls flag football
is in studio, and then we also have the Coachella
Valley Youth football team in studio as well. And I
believe La Keita Flag is supposed to be here. I
(02:58):
know they they were a tell let me earlier. They
had some things they had to get knocked out before
they could come in, but I know the coach. I
talked to the coach. The coach said that they're good
to go, and I'm pretty sure La Kinta will be
in the building shortly. So once they get in and
they arrive, I will let everyone know. Also, let me
(03:19):
keep you advised on all of our events. If you
haven't had a chance, make sure you go to the
social media, give us a follow, check out what we're doing.
I said this last week, and I got to say
thank you to the Coachella Valley first and foremost. This
is a tangent that I got to go on, but
(03:39):
you guys will like this. When I looked at our
Instagram over the last ninety days, we are at two
point six million views and I have to say thank
you to the Coachella Valley. I am humbled by the
reception that we've gotten here in the Coachella Valley. You
guys have embraced me so muchppreciate that fairly new. We
(04:01):
just started launch this show last month. We launched the
station in January. Started off we did the Coachella Valley
All Star Basketball Game Boys and Girls that we did
the Coachella Valley Baseball Game. And the reason I'm saying
that is now we are getting ready for the Coachella
Valley Girls Volleyball Classic that will take place in November fifteenth.
(04:25):
So that's going to be a Palm Desert High School.
If you go to the social media at Fox Sports PS,
go to the social media, you can see the jerseys.
We unveiled the jerseys that we're going to use for
the contest. So go on on there and check out
those jerseys. Let me know what you think about it. CEV,
I want to know how do you feel about the jerseys?
(04:45):
What do you think about the design. If you had
a chance to see our either of our two All
Star games that we've already done, the basketball game as
well as the baseball game, it's basically the same design
that we built upon. And then also what's gonna happen
before that? On November eighth, We're gonna have the Coachella
(05:06):
Valley Prep Basketball Media Day. It's gonna take place in
Palm Desert. So all the high school coaches, boys and
girls have been invited out. Young men, young ladies to
say that, all the coaches have been invited out. So
it's gonna be November eighth in the city of Palm Desert.
We sent all the details of the coaches. Is not
(05:26):
open to the public. We just want to have the
coaches and players there. If you're familiar with what we did,
check our social media. We did a media day for football.
A tremendous response we received from that. Great media came
out of that. So we're looking to do pretty much
the same thing with basketball. So all the basketball high
school basketball teams have been invited. We want to make
(05:48):
sure you guys are all there. So one thing I like,
speaking of flag football, since we have Xavier Prep in
we had our top five. It dropped the last top
five we had. I'll give you this. This is a
girl's flag football top five. Xavier Prep was ranked fifth,
Palm Desert was ranked fourth, India was ranked third, Desert
(06:09):
High Springs was ranked second, and Shadow Hills was ranked
number one in the Coachella Valley Flag football pole. And
again that's on our Instagram and if you go there,
we had our volleyball poll as well. Another one just
dropped on that one and that's got a tremendous response
as well. So on that pole, I'll give you the
top ten on that one. Run them off real quick
(06:30):
for you. You had Cathedral City tenth, you had Yucca ninth,
Shadow Hills is eighth, Banning seventh, Desert Question is sixth,
Indio's fifth. Fourth place was Coachella Valley. Third was Palm
Springs second, Palm Desert, number one, Xavier Prep. And that
is your Coachella Valley Volleyball top ten rankings. And again
(06:52):
this is Coach B on Fox Sports Radio. And now
we're gonna go ahead and take a look at the
Coachella Valley Top ten football poll. And I'll tell you
what a night it was in high school football. My goodness,
coming in at number ten in the poll. This is
the most recent poll for the Coachella Valley Fox Sports
(07:14):
Radio Football pole. Coming in at number ten. Coachella Valley
beat Yuca Valley. What a player right there. Coachella Valley
was ranked tenth, Yuca Valley was ranked Yucca Valley was
ranked sixth. So that was a big win right there,
to get that win. And then Rancho Mirage was ranked
(07:35):
number ninth. They lost to Lakina and you know, Lakina
was ranked number two in the polls, so that was
a tough game. With the final score and that was
it was forty to thirteen Yucca Valley and Coachella Valley.
I didn't say the score, that was fifty to thirty.
And then coming in at number eight was Desert Christian.
Desert Christians, they know they are eight and zero. They
(07:56):
won fifty one to seven. And I told you last
week we had some engagement. I see the engagement on there.
And this time, you know, Alex, Alex let me know.
He said, hey, I think Indio is missing. So you
know what Alex, like, I always say that he's our
on our social media, Like I said, let me know
(08:17):
what I got right, let me know what I got wrong.
Mom in two thousand and nine said let's go big Red.
So if you have something that you want to say,
hit me up on social media. Let me know, because
you know I'm not gonna disagree with you. Indio is
having a great year, so I totally agree with you.
Coming in at number seven on the pole, Banny, what
(08:38):
a game last night. Banning won twenty seven, twenty eight
to twenty seven in their game. That was a closed contest, right,
and then coming in at number six. We talked about
Yucker Valley coming in at number five with Shadow Hills.
Shadow Hills lost a Palm Desert and Palm Desert is
ranked number four in the game, so that was a
(08:58):
close contest as Palm Desert won that game thirty eight
to fourteen. Palm Desert. I tell you they're starting to
go on a run, right, Coming in at number three,
Xavier Prep, this was the game. This was a game
a week. We said this last week. When we did that,
we dropped the polls. We said, this game right here
qualifies for a Game of the Week. Xavier was ranked third,
(09:19):
Palm Springs was ranked number one, and they won that
game twenty six to zero. So a lot of people
took shots at us when we put Palm Springs number
one in this poll, and this was probably three or
four weeks ago, and everyone questioned us and says, hey,
I know you're new to the valley, but do you
(09:39):
know valley football, Palm Springs is eight to oz. They
won twenty six to zero. That was an impressive win.
So now you know, and this is what I always say,
let them play it out on the field. You know,
it's it's any pole is an opinion until you get
to the finds, like like you know, I know we're
talking high school football. We talked about Lakita already, Lakita
(10:02):
beat Rancho Mirage forty to thirteen. But like, let me
give give me a second, let me talk about my
Los Angeles Dodgers. Everyone said that they couldn't do it.
Everyone said that the season's a wash. You know, they
spend all that money, it's a bust. But look at
the Dodgers now, they're putting it together. They're making a run.
And that's why I said, let them play the game.
(10:22):
And look at Palm Springs. Like I said, they won
twenty six to zero and that is your Coachella Valley
Top ten. Go Dodgers. Also, Dodgers were about to get
another World series. Oh Tani, three home runs? Just nasty
with it. Did you see the gas? Excuse me, did
you see the gas that he had? So I'm sitting
here getting so excited. You know, I'm taking too much
(10:45):
air in and I'm sitting here choking talking about Otani,
the greatest to ever play, the greatest to ever put
on a baseball. Mit, oh Tani, My goodness, three home runs.
Everyone says that he's a bust in the postseason. Please
let's go. Dodgers about to get that World series. Let's
do this. But you know, let me get back to
high school. Like like I said at the beginning, I
(11:05):
go off on these tangents. So you know, you guys
got a real Median Coachella. You got a real me
and Coachella Valley. But nonetheless, that is your Coachella Valley
football top ten, uh, and those are your scores and
those are your teams. So we're gonna go ahead, We're
gonna go to commercial break, and then we're gonna bring
in Xavier Prep girls flag football. I get excited. I'm sorry.
(11:25):
I get excited when I talk about my Dodgers, the
Dodger Blue. We're gonna do this, but we'll be right back.
We're gonna take a quick commercial break. This is the

(12:35):
Football in studio. Coach, do me the privilege of introducing
yourself to the Fox Sports Radio audience.
Speaker 4 (12:42):
Hey, I'm Chad Press. I'm the head coach for Xavier
Prep Flag Football.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
What a great.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
Opportunity and great honor to be here on the show today.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
Thank you so much. I greatly appreciate that. Coach. You
guys are having a great season this year. Talk to
me a little bit about girls flag football, how you
got involved with it, and how you loving how everything's
going so far.
Speaker 4 (13:02):
So flag football has been such a growing sport, noting
locally California, but nationally as well. I mean got into it.
I coached football of men football for about fifteen years,
coach here locally, great time, grow opportunities and all that.
Then when the opportunity came to take on a program
(13:23):
once the local teams kind of did that, I kind
of reflected a little bit on it. I had talked
to a couple of people close people advisors on that,
and they said, absolutely, hop on board because this is
going to be a growing sport with a great opportunity
to kind of hop in and take control of a team,
get that going program. I work at Xavier, why not
come on board with that? You know, love being there,
(13:45):
love coaching there. I'm telling you it is going to
be a such a popular sport. I've been telling my
friends like I could see this as a Division one sport, right,
one hundred percent. Can you imagine an Ohio State versus
Michigan flag football game right in the Big House. That
would be incredible. And I think there is a school.
It is Division one. They have a Division one program.
(14:06):
It's back in the South, in the South, I think
it is. So it is going that way. And girls
are getting scholarships. Yes, so it's everything is evolving. So
it is incredible. So let me tell talk to me
about the transition. You said you were involved with tackle. Yes,
you said you did you play high school with Dockery.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
I did that.
Speaker 4 (14:22):
I did. He was I was a senior when he
was a sophomore. Okay, and all that I played there.
Played at Pumonter High School, coached as Xavier Prep for
eleven man and then also coached at Pumonter in high
school with currently you know head coach coach forty and
then which Shane McComb previously with that as well, and
when it was a great time. Uh, we had some
good successes over there, great coaching staff right there to
(14:44):
work with, and some great players opportunities, And I will
say I think one of the biggest differences is probably
just the rules itself with flag football eleven man, you know,
the rules have been established, they've been standardized, you know,
for a number of years, so you kind of know
going in what everything is with girls flag football because
it's a new sport. And that being said, they're kind
(15:07):
of still growing into like how can we do this,
what rules we want to implement. Last year, the rules
for California flag football were kind of completely different than
they are to this year as well. But I think
one of the biggest differences I noticed is just without
the line itself, without an offensive line or a defensive
line right there. The fact that everything's open it does
(15:30):
require I think a little more athletic ability within the
game itself because you have such open field and open spaces.
I think that's the part of the game and practice
you have to really implement and focus on skill wise,
compared to when you have alignment. You can strategize with
your run game, you're pulling all of that and you
(15:51):
can also create your passing game off that as well.
With flag football, you have a run game, but it's
primarily focused on the passing game itself. Really, the passing
game is number one. Run game comes two. So it's
kind of a little bit of a flip flop with
some cases as well. But it's really a fun game,
(16:11):
I mean, because you can be so creative with it
because you're adding another receiver and element, which is the center.
So it if you're a right brain coach, it's such
a fun game to coach.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
Right and it talks to me a little bit from
the beginning of the season because I know you probably
had some athletes that may have been there last year,
are some new versus the new athletes, Well, how about
that growth of your athletes from the beginning of the
season to now, because you guys had a really impressive
year we did.
Speaker 4 (16:39):
Last year was our first year and just to be straightforward,
we did not kind of perform as well as we'd
hope to. We kind of struggled with it. We had
a good group of girls come in. But this year,
I will tell you this about the girls. If you
talk about resilience, these girls are the definition of that.
They came in and they had a lot to work
(17:01):
for and to get where we were, and every day
all I do is just tell people how much these
girls were committed to the program and how much they
have developed over the summer. We came in in June
ready to go. I said, listen, we're gonna have summer ball,
We're gonna have fall camp. We're gonna get ready to go.
I mean we literally as a coaching staff with my
assistant coach, coach Vzquez, we kind of had to say
(17:24):
threw away the defensive an offensive game plan from last year,
but we just said, let's start from the beginning. Let's
get this thing going. We're going to bring up to
the girls, show them what we're gonna run this year.
They took it in, embrace it. They worked together as
a team, They were committed this year, and they did
a phenomenal job this year from where we were from
(17:44):
last year. I mean, we really grew a lot as
a team as well.
Speaker 2 (17:49):
How does that make you feel? Again, this is fox
Pus twelve seventy eight m Palm Springs. How does that
make you feel? How rewarding is that for you as
a coach to see when you first install something and
I'm sure you probably had sleepless nights like this. Are
they going to be able to grasp this? Can they
get it? Especially when you said the challenges of last year?
But I see how giddy.
Speaker 5 (18:06):
You are now.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
You had to being proud when you start to see
it to come to fruition.
Speaker 4 (18:11):
One hundred percent. I mean it is you go in
and you have the game plan. I will say this
when it comes to coaching. The first commandment of coaching
is know thyself. I mean that you have to know
who your team is, who your athletes are, and what
you can do. Because I could come up with any
play out there that I think could be successful, but
as a team, if we can't run it effectively, it's meaningless.
(18:31):
So going in and having them buy into what we
were going to do and what our defensive philosophy is
going to be, our offensive philosophy and just watch it
evolve over time.
Speaker 2 (18:42):
And we did have some struggles.
Speaker 4 (18:43):
I'm sure the girls will will talk about us some
things we had to overcome this year on top of
winning as well, and it's just so rewarding as a coach.
I mean, winning is great. I love winning and all that.
I'm a competitor, but watching the team grow and watching
finally when your players get something and they click, it's,
(19:04):
oh my god, it's such a great feeling. You go
home smiling and excited. I mean I told the girls,
you know, at our last game, I said, this has
been some of the the happiest times I've ever coached.
Coaching with them and all that I loved. I loved coaching,
love the man, but it is so much fun because
this is such a new sport. So with these girls
to take it on and really not have a lot
(19:27):
of prior experience of coaching playing football that is for
them and watch them grow and really like buy into
it and and and on top of succeed on the field.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
Right and you know one thing, it's it's so special
here Xavier, because we had the girls volleyball team line yes,
and President Campbell's here, and just to talk to me
a little bit about the support of that. I mean,
they support everything. They sometimes you go to school, they
just support football, they support basketball. But when you had
President Campbell here, Uh, when when when the volleyball team
(19:57):
was here? Talk to me about that.
Speaker 4 (19:59):
You know, Xavier is a school where we focus a
lot on individuals. We focus a lot on our students.
Every decision we make, everything we tried to do at
school at Xavier, we focus on the students, We focus
on the athletes, and we want to make sure that
no matter what the program is, no matter what the
club is, anything, we want to make sure we can
give everything we can to that. And it's been nothing
(20:21):
but support. I mean every week, it's just been great.
The faculty, the administration, they have just complimented us on
our team every single week. We had a couple of
shout outs in our faculty meeting about how well we're
doing and all that. So it's been nothing but love
and support.
Speaker 2 (20:38):
And I love it because your girls volleyball coach, he
runs the social media and she's so supportive. And it's
funny because when I first talked to her about doing
the All Star game, she was like, I saw the
basketball game, the baseball game, and I was hoping you
guys would do volleyball. So that's great. And we've talked
about girls flag football as well. Don't quote me on
that just yet, but there are some things that we're
(20:59):
hoping to do. But Coach, you brought some of your
young ladies in. But who do you have in studio
with you today? Coach?
Speaker 4 (21:05):
For your mind, I'll have them introduce themselves.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
Actually, okay, we'll have the first young lady come up.
Please come up, get right up on that mic, and
introduce yourself to the flat flat to the Fox Sports
Radio audience.
Speaker 6 (21:16):
Hi, I'm Charlie Daft.
Speaker 7 (21:18):
I play slot receiver, safety and QB excellent.
Speaker 2 (21:23):
And you said you was started? Oh so a QB excellent?
Did you said you were started by a friend got
you into playing the sport?
Speaker 5 (21:30):
Well?
Speaker 7 (21:30):
Actually I played Friday night lights with my dad and
so when I found out Xavier had a flag football team,
I was really excited to get back into it.
Speaker 2 (21:38):
Okay, And so you played last year I did not, Okay,
So I'll ask you this. So your dad got you
involved in it? Do you have brothers? I do?
Speaker 7 (21:47):
I have one brother.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
Did he play football?
Speaker 8 (21:48):
He did?
Speaker 2 (21:49):
So, so your dad kind of made you play football
right a little bit? So are you can you go
back and tell dad I'm doing better than my brother?
Speaker 3 (21:57):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (21:57):
Okay, excellent? What do you like about flag football? And
what got you so excited about it.
Speaker 7 (22:02):
I just I was really excited to play a new
sport at Xavier and just like see like the new
experience and like these a lot of my friends played,
so I was excited to like play with them and
kind of like create a new bond with them.
Speaker 2 (22:15):
And you know, an interesting thing, We've had a couple
of girls flag football teams on and you're not the
first one that went from football to football. So tell
me a little bit of I know what soccer you
have to have the hand eye coordination and a lot
of players who played soccer as kids go on to
play other sports, and they said, because you have to
have that coordination with your eyes is really helpful. Does
(22:36):
that give you good peripheral when you're out there and
you can see the field?
Speaker 7 (22:39):
Yes, I think playing soccer really helped me. I mean
a lot of it's like the speed, the agility, the
training's pretty similar. I mean, going from playing everything with
my feet and my hands was a little different, but
I mean I think it was it was a pretty
easy shift, right.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
And then I'll ask you, I know it's it's it's
not the Xavier of flag foot, but are you are
you still into soccer? Yes, are you excited about the
World Cup? I think they set a record for ticket
sales and it's gonna be right here in La.
Speaker 7 (23:08):
I'm pretty excited to watch it. I love watching soccer.
I always learn from the pros that play, so it should.
Speaker 6 (23:15):
Be a good mesch.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
Who's your favorite player?
Speaker 8 (23:17):
Messy?
Speaker 2 (23:18):
Messy? All right? Excellent? Actually perfect. Congratulations on your season.
Are you a senior?
Speaker 6 (23:23):
I'm a junior.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
You're a junior. Okay, So you're gonna come back another year? Yes, excellent,
So congratulations on your season. Quarterback in the building. So congratulations,
young ladies, Thank you. Excellent. New we have another young
lady that's gonna gonna come on up. Please introduce yourself
to the Fox Sports Radio audience.
Speaker 3 (23:39):
Hi, I'm Valerie Torres and I play wide receiver and corner.
Speaker 2 (23:44):
Okay, so you said you were interested in playing flag,
But you do you play any other sports?
Speaker 5 (23:50):
Yes?
Speaker 6 (23:50):
I play softball softball?
Speaker 2 (23:52):
So softball? What position in softball do you play?
Speaker 3 (23:55):
I play center outfielder.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
Center outfielder. Okay, So were you excited about the Dodgers?
Are you please tell me you're okay? I was gonna say,
I was gonna say, if you're not a Dodger fan.
We're gonna shut it down. I get excited with my Dodgers.
Did you watch the game last week?
Speaker 7 (24:08):
I did.
Speaker 3 (24:09):
It was a very good game last night.
Speaker 2 (24:10):
Were you blown away by I know we're talking about Xavier,
I know, but were you blown away by Otani in
those three home runs? Yes?
Speaker 3 (24:16):
It was very impressive and I was very proud of
him for it.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
Okay, now let's get back to flag football. So now
you said you had to change positions from running back
to wide receiver? Did you? Which was did you?
Speaker 3 (24:27):
Was?
Speaker 2 (24:27):
Why did you change the positions?
Speaker 3 (24:31):
Just because it was better for the team and we
had better players this year that could play a running
back and they just put me out wide receiver and
I was able to adjust to it.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
I always say, when the team comes in, there's someone
that's going to run for president one day, coach, and
you've got it right here, So you've got my vote.
She's so poisoned, so polished. I absolutely love it. So
with the receiver. So when you got go out there
and you get that touchdown, you lost somebody. Oh head
toppers what they call it now, right? Yeah, you call
it the head toppers. So when you headtop someone, do
you just apologize to the the players? I'm sorry I
(25:01):
had to do this. I had to score.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
Yeah, definitely.
Speaker 8 (25:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
Do you have a dance?
Speaker 3 (25:06):
No, we don't do dance. It's just a little celebration
with the team high fiving each other and just pumping
each other up every time we score.
Speaker 1 (25:13):
Got you?
Speaker 2 (25:13):
And then this is what we always need to know
when when when the young ladies come in, who coordinates
the TikTok?
Speaker 3 (25:20):
It's kind of just a team and hole and we
just like to do dances before the games and we
post them and it's just fun having the team.
Speaker 9 (25:27):
Do it with us.
Speaker 2 (25:28):
Actually, have you guys done the TikTok yet? Are you
still planning on do it here at the station? Are
you still waiting on it? Or are you guys? Are
you guys coordinating it yet? Are you thinking about it?
Speaker 3 (25:35):
We'll probably do it after this and we'll forgot the dance.
Speaker 2 (25:39):
I love it. Well, congratulations, young lady. Thank you so much.
And what great are you in? I'm a senior, you're
a senior? Did that go fast?
Speaker 5 (25:46):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (25:46):
It was very sad having to play my last game,
but yeah, I'm excited to see how the next season
goes for the girls.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
And I should have asked the other young lady when so,
because the volleyball team was just in. How was homecoming?
Speaker 3 (25:58):
It was very fun very good DJ as well.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
Okay, I have to ask because it's funny because last
week when they came in, it was before homecoming. So
now we know what happened at homecoming. So good to
know there was a good homecoming. All right, congratulations young lady. Absolutely,
and we'll bring the next young lady up. Please introduce
yourself to the Fox Sports Radio audience.
Speaker 10 (26:17):
Hello, my name is dath Cornell and I play wide
receiver and cornerback.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
Okay, and now one thing that I like about you.
You said you always love watching football. Yes, and you've
always wanted to play, so I see the smile. You
were excited when when when football became a thing for you?
Speaker 10 (26:34):
Yes, my dad introduced me to football. Go rams, Okay,
and I yes, I just love what I just I've
always wanted to play. I've always like imagined like, oh
my gosh, I can't wait until girls like it becomes
a big thing for girls to play football. I mean,
it's an amazing thing.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
Like they said, who runs the world?
Speaker 6 (26:51):
Girls?
Speaker 2 (26:51):
There you go there, you go excellently. So I like
the other team that plays in so far. Don't don't
judge me, don't don't. I know there's two teams. I know.
I know it's hard to believe there are two teams
in Los Angeles. We just don't have as many fans.
It's like when I whenever I see someone wearing Chargers gear,
I was like, oh, we do exist high So yeah,
but what is it about football that you love so buch,
(27:11):
you know your dad got you into.
Speaker 10 (27:13):
Yes, I just love like the team, like like the
teamwork aspect of it, like we all we all play together,
like we went together, we lose together. I just think
it's a big team work like sport.
Speaker 6 (27:24):
So I just love that aspect of it.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
And then you said you learn new techniques in the summer.
So did dad get out there with you and show
you what you needed to do?
Speaker 10 (27:31):
He really wanted to. Yes, And then at the end
of the season he went, don't worry, We're going to
get back out there and train trained like this this month,
next month, and you're you're gonna be ready for next season.
Speaker 2 (27:40):
There you go, and you said you own your own business.
Speaker 10 (27:43):
Yes, I have a little baking business.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
Okay, So so this is one thing you gotta know.
I have a gut and it has to be maintained.
So you had me at baking. Okay, So what's your
what's your what's your go to?
Speaker 10 (27:55):
I think like a customer. Favorites definitely cinnamon roals and
my German cake, German.
Speaker 4 (28:01):
Child and her trans is delicious.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
It's a god for now, coach, I don't know because
she didn't bring it, so I can't judge it. So
I don't know. So so I tell you this, we
may have to bring you back so that we can
have you come in and and and do those things.
Because you know, it's funny. When we first came out here,
I found about t KB and then they started the
siblings started by selling treats and what now we got
(28:26):
you in the baking. I'm a baker, I.
Speaker 10 (28:28):
Honestly, I just think I've I loved watching bacon shows
with my mom. My mom's like a chef, so like
we're all just like a really like chef baking family.
Speaker 2 (28:37):
So I don't know how good she cooks because I
don't have her I have to sample her food. So
do you guys have an Instagram.
Speaker 5 (28:42):
Or anything that I do have, it's baked.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
Okay. What about your mom? You said your mom is a chef.
Speaker 6 (28:48):
Yeah, she doesn't really have an Instagram for like her.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
Okay, okay, so we're gonna have to try those those
those those things. So my my thing was, I was younger,
I used to love make cookies. I make them for scratch.
So that's one thing I always love to do. Don't
judge me. Two of my hobbies is baking and gardening,
So don't judge me. Don't don't judge me. Judge excellent
with that, you so much, young lady. Congratulations on your season.
(29:14):
So we can coach. We've got to we've got to
get those those samples in here.
Speaker 4 (29:16):
Absolutely, you can have us back if you want, or
is he here play softball so you can have a
softball team come there, and then she'll bring it as well.
I told her, I said, listen, you're gonna do my
daughter's birthday cake this year.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
And there you go, that's what I'm talking about. And
then we have one more young lady that's gonna come
up for us. Go ahead and introduce yourself to the
Fox Sports Radio off if you need to, you can
swing that. Just put yeah, just swing there you go,
there you go. Just hold on to it as you're talking.
Then come up on to it so the audience can
hear you. Please introduce yourself.
Speaker 6 (29:45):
Hi, I'm sure Ley Starmudiz. I play wide receiver. I
play corner, a little bit of safety and your linebacker.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
Okay. And then you said you always play football with
your dad.
Speaker 6 (29:56):
Not really like I watched football NFL with my dad.
Speaker 9 (30:00):
I've never played.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
I'm sorry you watched it with your dad. See the
thing is, my age starts with the five, so sometimes
when the young ladies abbreviate. So I'll ask you this.
My daughter's twenty five, and she'll text me and she
gets upset because I call her and she said, Dad,
I text you. Why did you call me? Oh my goodness?
But you uh you said, coming back from your broken wrist.
(30:26):
How was that as a challenge?
Speaker 6 (30:27):
I didn't breaks?
Speaker 2 (30:28):
Okay, Charlie, Oh, Charlie, okay, Oh you know what. I
have the wrong one. I'm sorry. That's what it is.
That's what it is. I have the wrong one. I'm sorry.
We do questionnaire, we do a questionnaire, so I have
the wrong one. So you know, that's why what she's
looking at me. I was asking a question. She was like,
wait a minute, you asked me the wrong question. Similar, yes, yes, yes,
so I've got you now, Okay, I got it now.
(30:48):
You know, like I said, I'm the old guy. So
let's just let's just act like that didn't happen. But
talk to me a little bit about your season. How
was everything. How do you feel that it went for you?
Speaker 7 (30:58):
Well?
Speaker 6 (30:58):
I played last year. I was one of the players
to just start the team with exavior and it was
honestly like a complete shift because, as coach Press said,
it was new, you were starting something and it might
have not gone how we wanted it. But this year
we really accomplished what we set and just worked hard
for it day in and day out, and so I
(31:20):
think it was a great improvement and a good way
to end the flag football career.
Speaker 2 (31:25):
Yes, so you're a senior. Yeah, so when did you
play last year? I did? So when you see the
growth from it, and last year was your first year playing, yes,
so when you see the growth from from the junior
year the senior year, are you impressed how far it's
come for you?
Speaker 6 (31:40):
You mean individually, as individual, both well, individually, it was fresh.
I've just only watched it, I never played it. I
think I was just growing as the season went on,
and then I shifted to this senior year and held
the same skills and just improved them by whatever resource
I was given by my team and my coaches.
Speaker 2 (32:02):
Yes, I'll tell you have some polished young ladies. I
mean she is. She is really, and she's questioning me, like,
what do you want to this? Wear it that way?
Like I can tell you either way. So I love it,
young lady. What are your plans after the season. Do
you play in other sports or is this it for you? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (32:20):
I play soccer. I plan to play it for the
school this coming winter.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
Okay, what sport your coach is here? You're you're a
flag football coach. Which sport do you like? Football or football?
Speaker 6 (32:28):
I mean, I've played soccer for a while and I
think I like both because it's something new. With flag football,
I play with my friends, so I think that makes
me like it maybe a little bit more, yes, But
then obviously going back to soccer, something I'm used to
and comfortable with, Yes, I do appreciate that as well.
Speaker 2 (32:47):
There you go, and then you know, you're a senior. Yeah,
so that was that a quick till twelve years?
Speaker 9 (32:53):
Honestly, it was.
Speaker 6 (32:53):
Yes, it was really sad because I felt like freshman year,
it was like it's gonna take so long, and then boom,
I'm here senior year about to graduate, and it's kind
of sad. But a new chapter is gonna come, which
is good.
Speaker 2 (33:05):
You'll be ready for the next level. And then how
was how was homecoming?
Speaker 6 (33:09):
I'm coming was fun? Good way to have the last homecoming.
Speaker 9 (33:13):
It was fun.
Speaker 6 (33:14):
Decorations were nice, music was good.
Speaker 2 (33:17):
There you go, Well, congratulations young ladies. So it's it's
funny because right now we just have the you hear
us on radio, but you'll see it on YouTube, and
I'm sure you'll see the young ladies when I asking
them questions that like what is this dude talking about?
So I made the mistake. That's on me. Uh, don't
judge me. Fox Sports Radio. I got we have questionnaires
do we give the young ladies to give background information?
I got the wrong. I got a mixed up, you know,
(33:40):
like I always say, my wife hates hearing this joke.
It took me twenty four years to get a four
year degree. But I stuck with it and I got
my degree. So that's that's persistence. But I think my
college just got to the point said, you know, just
get him money. So because that's what my high school did, say,
let them go. But coach, what do you got a
great bunch of young ladies? Yes? They are, like, Okay, gratulations,
young lady, congratulations, joke so much. What a great bunch
(34:00):
of young ladies you have here, coach.
Speaker 4 (34:01):
And this is only just four of them. I mean,
I mean there are I still have a number of
girls that that could come on here and they were
doing well and unfortunately they just had some things. You know,
I have two I have two girls that play hockey,
oh right now there they're at a hockey tournament. So
and then I another girl that was out of town
as well. But yeah, I mean there is they are.
(34:23):
And I'm not trying to say anything about about the
other students at Xavier whatsoever, but they are such great
leaders and such great role models at Xavier. I mean,
I mean they do such a phenomenal job. The amount
of accomplishments they have and and things on their resume,
I mean it's incredible. Yes, Well, to coach them well,
(34:44):
thank you so much for coming in. We appreciate the
young ladies, and remember when the seniors you my friends.
I graduated a long time ago. I graduated a long
time ago. We were still like Fred Flintstone days. You know,
you know that was that was me. But you'll make
some of the b friends in your life in high school.
So cherish those moments and those memories. Thank you so
much all for coming in. Congratulations on the great season.
(35:06):
We're gonna take a quick commercial break and then we're
gonna have the Coachella Valley Youth Football in studio. But
thank you again, coach. We greatly appreciate it. Thank you
so much. Put an honor and a pleasure again to
have us on.
Speaker 2 (35:17):

Speaker 2 (35:56):
This is the Coachella Valley Sports Report. I'm your host,
Coach be on Fox Sports Radio Heard of Southern California
and Fox Sports twelve seveny am. And I'm heard in
Las Vegas on Fox Sports ninety eight point nine FM.
And as always, we are streaming twenty four seven on
the iHeartRadio app. I appreciate your patients. Young men, we
have the Coachella Valley, I mean they name the entire
(36:17):
valley after this team, the Coachella Valley Youth Football coach.
Please introduce yourself to the Fox Sports Radio audience.
Speaker 11 (36:25):
Hi, my name is coach Ryan, defensive coach for the
Coachella Valley the Little Arabs.
Speaker 2 (36:30):
Excellent, and then tell me a little bit about your team.
Your program. You guys are feeder into the high school correct.
Speaker 5 (36:36):
Yeah, definitely.
Speaker 11 (36:36):
We're a thirteen youth program, got kids from primarily the
East end of the Valley, Coachella Lakita, Indio, that type
of area. We play thirteen U in the Desert Valley Conference,
so we're gonna play mostly against teams from Imperial Brawley,
Collexico seven to six to Ozho, which is el Central area,
(36:57):
So we play a lot. That's our league primarily, but
we also play outer league games. We played teams from
Marino Valley, the G One Bulldogs, uh Sanahai Raiders, and
we have a big game today against the og Ducks.
Speaker 2 (37:08):
Okay, yeah, every that's a that's a good one. So
tell me why is it so important you have your league.
You can do that, but you guys go out and
look for some competition. Why is that important to you
as a coach and for your team?
Speaker 11 (37:21):
Well, we want to test ourself against the best, right
So the only way we're gonna get better is to
play those tough teams, play the big kids from the
imperiod from the Inland Empire.
Speaker 5 (37:32):
Went up against the G One Bulldogs a couple of
weeks ago.
Speaker 11 (37:34):
That was a great game, and then we got another
tough test today against the og Ducks.
Speaker 2 (37:39):
Okay, and then tell me a little bit about the season.
And I always love to ask coaches this because they
call me coach because I used to coach youth football
as well. And then at the beginning of the season,
when you want to make your your offense and your
defense and your philosophy, you always think to yourself, can
they pick this up? But what is it like for
you as a coach when you start to see the
kids start to pick it up and they started to
get it, and you say on the defensive side.
Speaker 5 (38:01):
Yeah, thankfully for us. A lot of these kids are
very seasoned.
Speaker 11 (38:04):
A lot of them playing youth football since they were nine,
you right, so, and a lot of them together for
many years. So we've got a lot of kids who
are out there. It's not their first rodeo. They know
what to do. As they're getting bigger, they're get more physical.
Started off a little tough at the beginning of the year,
lost a couple running backs with some early season injuries.
Speaker 5 (38:26):
But we're getting healthy at the right time.
Speaker 11 (38:27):
We're coming together and we're going to be dangerous here
as we come down the stretch.
Speaker 2 (38:31):
What do you I love to run on the defense.
I always run the four to three. What do you
run on that?
Speaker 4 (38:35):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (38:36):
Primarily, well, we do a lot of four to four stuff.
But we'll blitz linebackers, we'll bring stuff, bring people from outside. Well,
we've got a lot of very athletic linebackers on their team,
so we just try to get them in there and
make place.
Speaker 2 (38:47):
It is that such a great thing when you have
that one athlete that can read an offense and knows
how to adjust his teammates and goes and gets it.
Speaker 5 (38:54):
Yeah, it really is key. At a lot of our
kids can play both ways.
Speaker 11 (38:58):
We don't necessarily play in both ways a game, but
it makes it so much easier when you have someone
who plays wide receiver out there also playing corner, they
kind of know what to look for. A lot of
our running backs play play linebacker, so they kind of know,
you know, what that running back might be doing. And
and we have linemen that play you know, both offensive
defensive line. So really it really helps with their understanding
(39:20):
of the.
Speaker 2 (39:21):
Game, right and you know, you think about that. I
know we're getting coaching and we can go down a
deep in but how the game has changed now you
have to have a linebacker that could play running back.
You have to have speed now the game has changed
so much now.
Speaker 11 (39:34):
Yeah, definitely sidelining the sideline. They got to be able
to pursue get out there. It's definitely speed. We don't
don't get me wrong. We got a lot of size
up front. We have some big boys on See these
aren't even some of the biggest ones we have.
Speaker 4 (39:46):
Mother.
Speaker 5 (39:46):
We got some other big boys on the team.
Speaker 11 (39:48):
But we're routinely in our league it's unweighted, so we're
we're going up against kids that make me look small.
Speaker 5 (39:55):
Right, We're talking every every week.
Speaker 11 (39:57):
When we're going through the handshake line, I'm looking up
at some of these kids on the other team, six
three sixty four, three hundred pounds, they're they're big kids.
So we have a good mix of size and speed
on our team. Mixes pretty pretty balanced.
Speaker 2 (40:08):
And I know you have some young men in but
you know you're you're speaking to the choir because I
was a part of the AAU when it first came
to the Inland Empire, and I love unlimited weight because
then you have kids are the same age, they're the
same mental capacity playing against each other. You don't have
heavy kids playing against older kids. And then I always say,
when they get the high school, what's the way limit?
There is one? So you have to get ready for
(40:28):
high school. So I love it. Then when you have
teams that play that way, of course, we have some
young men out here. I love the uniforms. They kind
of remind me of like an organ esque with it
when you look at the font of the number. Uh
that is you know, I'm a usc guy. But you know,
I got to give props to Organ. Oregon just came
out of nowhere.
Speaker 3 (40:47):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (40:47):
But we have our first young man, how meany we
have we have a lot.
Speaker 5 (40:50):
Of young men here, coach, Yeah, eight of.
Speaker 2 (40:52):
Them, eight of them. Alrighty, so we'll have the first
young man. Come on up. Uh, let's let you know
your name, your position, and you're with a coach. Illa
Valley Youth Football, Donaldriguez.
Speaker 12 (41:03):
I play quarterback number ten and I'm with.
Speaker 13 (41:08):
Youth football.
Speaker 2 (41:09):
Okay, So what's what's the reason for number ten?
Speaker 12 (41:12):
Because I've just been wearing this, it's all. I was
like four years old, okay, been playing flag football since
I was like four, and my dad worried it, so
I just started wearing it.
Speaker 2 (41:21):
Okay, So dad did it? Did your dad play quarterback
as well? Yes? Okay? Actually, so do you tell him
I'm I'm better than you now? Pops of course I
love it. I think at Oregon, if I'm not mistaken,
I think Herbert was number ten.
Speaker 5 (41:34):
He was definitely That's what I was thinking of that.
I'm a big charger standing.
Speaker 2 (41:37):
Oh, I told you we exist, bolt up, Yes we
exist here.
Speaker 5 (41:41):
Season tickets right here.
Speaker 2 (41:43):
I'm not that that much of a fan. But you
know when I when I look at my banking, my checking,
the savings is set up. I can't do the season tickets.
I may do a game or two here or there,
but we got to get our line healthy.
Speaker 11 (41:52):
Oh god, don't get me started on that. Yes, the
place every year, every year.
Speaker 2 (41:58):
All right, back to regularly scheduling programming. So let's get
back to the to the coach Alla Valley Youth football.
Tell me what is it about youth football or football
that you love so much?
Speaker 12 (42:06):
Just love the sport in general, you know, playing with
my friends. Let's go out there and fight for each other.
And I just like the energy and the competition.
Speaker 2 (42:15):
Excellent. But congratulations, young man, thanks for coming in. Those
are some nice uniforms, the battle uniforms. I like those.
We'll bring your next teammate up because we've got a
few of you, so we'll bring your next, young man up?
Who's gonna come up next? We're bringing number seventy. All right,
go ahead and introduce yourself.
Speaker 8 (42:32):
I'm Tommy Quickly. I play center and defensive tackle, and
I'm number seventy.
Speaker 2 (42:38):
Do people realize how important the center is? I mean,
do you have to educate them? I mean you are
the quarterback of the line.
Speaker 8 (42:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (42:45):
And then also on the line. This is another thing
you gotta tell your teammates. I'm sure they know, they
understand it. If you don't have a line, you don't
have an offense.
Speaker 8 (42:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (42:54):
So what is it about the offensive line that you
like so much?
Speaker 4 (42:56):
Center?
Speaker 2 (42:57):
You get hit every play?
Speaker 8 (42:58):
Yeah, it starts with us. The play can't go without
the offensive line.
Speaker 2 (43:03):
Uh huh. So what what what do you like most
about about playing playing football?
Speaker 8 (43:07):
The responsibility and like just fighting and the competitiveness.
Speaker 2 (43:11):
There you go, I like you, young man. Congratulations on
your season? Or what grade are you in?
Speaker 7 (43:16):
Eighth?
Speaker 2 (43:16):
Eighth grade? Do you know what would you be going
to CEV next year?
Speaker 7 (43:19):
No?
Speaker 9 (43:19):
Probably not?
Speaker 2 (43:20):
Okay? Oh do you know you're going yet?
Speaker 5 (43:22):
No?
Speaker 2 (43:22):
Okay, no problem, no problem with congratulations, young man. We're
looking forward to seeing when you get to high school.
Make sure you continue to follow us and and and
let us know how how you go along, and then
we'll bring up your next teammate. This is always so
important to me because there was a kid that went
to Cahon High School. I interviewed him in the ninth grade.
His name is Jayden and Daniels. He doesn't return my
calls anymore, and I think that's just so mean. But
(43:43):
go ahead and introduce yourself to the Fox Sports Radio audience.
Speaker 6 (43:47):
Gabriel sil I play guard Dan Taco.
Speaker 2 (43:50):
What do you like? What is it about football that
you like so much? Probably come up to the mic
just a little bit, probably hitting. Okay, Actually, I say
you got the drip. You like the drip too, huh?
You got to bling in your ears, you gotta look good, huh.
I love it. I love it. So what was one
of your biggest accomplishments this year in your season?
Speaker 5 (44:12):
That's sacked? First s c A.

Running back? And I like about a budget dominat the ball?
Speaker 2 (45:00):
Okay, is who's your favorite? Do you have a favorite
running back?
Speaker 13 (45:05):
Dereck Henry?
Speaker 2 (45:06):
Dereck Henry. That's a big dude. What is it about
Dereck Henry? You lying just hing and and then you know,
I'll ask you this. When he had that that game
and he fumbled and then he just took the accountability
and the ownership? Is that something? Is that the character
that you when you when something goes wrong? Is that
will you let your team know, Hey, I'm here, I'm
gonna I'm gonna handle it.
Speaker 13 (45:25):
Yeah, pretty much?
Speaker 2 (45:26):
There you go? Did you did you what did you
think about him when he when he just stood up
and took.
Speaker 13 (45:30):
It then like just a man like yeah, plays the game.
Speaker 2 (45:35):
Yeah yeah, yeah, good stuff with congratulations young man. You
were eighth grade as well? Yeah excellent. Well, congratulations young man,
and we'll continue to watch you as your season goes along.
Speaker 13 (45:43):

Speaker 2 (45:44):
All right, excellent, and we'll bring your next teammate up.
Speaker 9 (45:47):
I'm eating conco.
Speaker 8 (45:48):
I play receiver in cornerback and I'm number twenty two.
Speaker 2 (45:52):
Excellent in so, why why the number twenty two? Okay?
Speaker 12 (45:57):
What?
Speaker 2 (45:57):

Okay, name drop mom, Kelly, okay, excellent. And what do
you like most about football?
Speaker 12 (46:07):
I'm just like catching the ball, playing with my friends
and yeah excellent.
Speaker 2 (46:11):
Do you think you reached your goals this year or
do you do you have any other goals you want
to reach?
Speaker 3 (46:16):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (46:16):
I think I did it.
Speaker 2 (46:18):

two looks good on you. Excellent. Then we'll bring our
next young man up. Come on up, introduce yourself and
to get right up on the mic and let us
know your number.
Speaker 14 (46:33):
My name is Francisco Laskiz. I play running back, Dianne
kicker and I'm waiting numberzero.
Speaker 2 (46:41):
Okay, excellent? Why why did you choose the number zero?
Speaker 14 (46:45):
To be honest, I'll even know. I just I just
like the way it looked on the jerseys?
Speaker 2 (46:50):
Got you? Got you? And you know, man, I had
absolutely no talent, you know. So you see, I'm sitting
in this chair for the people at home listening on radio,
I'm sitting on the chair as I'm interviewing the young man.
This is my position. And when I played high school,
I was the bench, you know, that was that was me.
But I wish I would have been the kicker, man,
I mean the kickers. Boy, you could spend years playing
football as a kicker. Why did not think about that?
What got you into being a kicker?
Speaker 14 (47:12):
Well, when I was younger, soccer was my first sport.
So they just said, like the team just said, oh
we need to a kickers, so they may.
Speaker 2 (47:21):
And you could get it done. Yeah yeah, excellent. Now
do you still play soccer? You just playing no football? Okay?
Got you? Because the World Cup's coming in It's gonna
be huge in La. So I'll ask you, do you
think you accomplished all your goals this year? Or no,
not yet? Okay, what's your what's your number one goal?
Speaker 14 (47:39):
At least a couple more touchdowns?
Speaker 1 (47:42):
Got you?
Speaker 2 (47:43):
Got you? Well? Congratulations young man, Thanks so much for
coming in. And then we'll bring your next teammate up
and make sure you get right up on that might
get on, get on, that might introduce it that what
is your name and your number?
Speaker 15 (47:55):
I'm guessing number seven, and I play running back and
linebacker and kicker.
Speaker 2 (47:59):
Excellent. So what do you like most about playing football?
Speaker 15 (48:03):
I just love the competitiveness and the thrill of winning games,
the just the team. Just love our team, love my friends.
Speaker 2 (48:13):
Excellent. So this season, how do you think your season's
going for you?
Speaker 15 (48:17):
I think this is definitely my best season so far
of youth football. I love the way it is going
for us. I hope that clumbus more than I have
ready right now.
Speaker 2 (48:26):
Excellent, And you're in the eighth grade as well. Correct, well,
congratulations on your season. Will continue watching you, young man.
Thank you excellent, And then we'll bring our next player.
I think he's our last last player. Correct, Okay, we'll
bring you on up. Come on, make sure you get
up on that I know you. You're a little bit
taller than me, So go ahead and get up on
that mic.
Speaker 9 (48:43):
My name is Jason Silvan.
Speaker 2 (48:44):
I play offensive, okay, And you wanted the lineman so important?
So what do you like about being on the line?
I mean the line? You guys? You guys. One thing
I noticed about lineman. You guys stick together. You don't
hang out with any other positions. The line sticks together.
What do you like most about playing line? And just
make sure you're up on that mic, young man?
Speaker 9 (49:02):
Just playing with friends and likeness?
Speaker 2 (49:05):
Got you? That sounds like aligneman. So so you absolutely
want to blow people up. So so I'll ask you.
This is always important, and you can tell me what
brand you like. But when you're out there and you're
getting a pancake, uh, do you ask the people? Do
you do you like Serve? Do you like jelly Jam?
I mean, do you? Is that a question? You asked them?
You don't do it? See? I like it? You got
(49:28):
you that? That's good man. You have etiquette because I
had no athletic ability. If I had athletic ability, I'd
have been out there acting the fool. So but congratulations,
young man. Uh, we look forward, look forward to continue
to watching you this season. Excellent. I think that was
our last player, correct, and then we'll it will have
you come on up as well. Coached. We were gonna have you.
Have you come on over here and then introduce yourself
(49:49):
to the Fox Sports radio audience as well. Coached.
Speaker 16 (49:52):
Hello, guys, I'm coach Mark Silva. I coached the D
line and help out on.
Speaker 2 (49:55):
The whole line. Excellent, and then coach the line. How
important is it to coach that line? People don't understand that.
It doesn't matter if you have Barry Sanders in the back. Well,
Barry Sanders didn't have a line, so he's the exception
to the rule. Okay, if you have an Emmitt Smith,
because Emmit Smith had that Cowboys line, But if you
don't have a line the typical running back, even a quarterback.
(50:17):
Now we're seeing it when we talked about Herbert. Now
he's running for us life again. But people don't understand
how important that line is. Do you play line and
do you realize why is it so important for that line?
Speaker 16 (50:26):
Yeah, yeah, it's very important. Uh we can't get we
gonna get the snap to the quarterback? Qutbora, I can't
hand the ball out work past it. So it starts
there and ends.
Speaker 2 (50:34):
There, right, So getting deep in those tricks. Yeah, yeah, absolutely,
So I know you guys have a few more games
coming up. Do you guys have goals or ambitions or anything.
I know you guys want to get that get to
the ship.
Speaker 16 (50:44):
Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah. So we got today's the last
game regular season. Then we got playoffs next week. So
if we win that one, then the next one will
be super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (50:53):
Excellent. Congrat and that one keep on going.
Speaker 17 (50:55):
We go to the whatever regional tournament North Okay, play Francisco, Okay,
play some teams from up north, and then do all there.
Speaker 5 (51:05):
We can go all the way to Florida.
Speaker 2 (51:08):
And that's another thing to change about U sports. When
I when I was playing youth sports, we were having
we played the team in the next city. I mean,
now you got kids going all over.
Speaker 5 (51:15):
The all over, you know, a lot of traveling.
Speaker 2 (51:18):
Yeah yeah, and I'm sure that's a lot of fundraising
and whatnot. But congratulates. Thank you guys, first and force
and foremost of being so patient.
Speaker 5 (51:25):

Speaker 9 (53:00):
Hi, my name is Jasmine Nicks.
Speaker 2 (53:02):
Excellent, and you're the head coach over at Lakita. And
tell me a little bit about your season and how
everything's going for Lakita and the growth that you have
for your team. And I know this and when you
see your girls at the beginning of the season till now,
I know it's got to be h it's got to
be amazing to see when they started taking your coaching
and understanding what you're doing definitely.
Speaker 9 (53:22):
It's been an amazing season for me and for the
girls as well. Although our record doesn't reflect our skill,
we have grown so much as a program. I came
in and tried to change the culture, try to adapt
to new style of coaching, the new style of play.
So the girls took it on and we had an
amazing season.
Speaker 2 (53:39):
Excellent. And you know, that's one of the things about
being as a coach because they called me coach be
because I coach youth football. But is there ever a
time at the beginning of the season where you just
wonder who's going to stand up, who's going to be
the leader, and who's gonna, you know, take your message
and be your coach on the court? Do you ever
have those sleepless nights.
Speaker 5 (53:59):
With those.
Speaker 2 (54:00):
Always always yes, yes? And with that was there was
there a particular group of young ladies that just I'm
sure you've probably your senior leadership that that stood out
and surprised you. Because there's always someone that comes out
like hum and then that person becomes, uh the leader
of your group. For sure.
Speaker 9 (54:18):
My my two senior captains are definitely my leaders, Genesis
and Serena. But who surprised me really was my my underclassmen.
They came out and and I have to say they're
our last game. They definitely surprised me with their their
chance and cheers for their team. So overall we had
a pretty good supporting staff.
Speaker 2 (54:35):
Excellent, and that's so important when you think of these
young ladies when they when they get their chance and
their cheers and they tiktoks and stuff like that. But
do you did you accomplish your goals that you had
for your for yourself and your season for me?
Speaker 9 (54:48):
Yeah? My I came in automatically saying that this is
more than volleyball, and I wanted to teach them life lessons.
And I feel like we definitely accomplished that.
Speaker 2 (54:57):
Excellent. And what was the biggest was there like an
ah a moment during the season and you said we're
gonna be all right.
Speaker 9 (55:05):
Honestly, we were our first game against Palm Desert in
the HYMN Tournament when I realized and they relies to
their skill level and we were gonna be good, even
not not necessarily our record. I guess our record doesn't
reflect that, but for the future it looks good.
Speaker 2 (55:20):
Yes, yes, are there who do you have in studio
with you today, coach.
Speaker 9 (55:25):
We have sophomore Brooklyn, senior Jeny and another senior k Uh,
freshman Lola uh huh, junior Athiya, and sophomore junior Roberta.
Speaker 2 (55:38):
Okay, so you have some under class women. I'm gonna
say some underclass women. So you you guys are stocked
for down the road.
Speaker 9 (55:45):
Oh yeah, yeah, we have some talent coming in.
Speaker 1 (55:48):
Uh.
Speaker 9 (55:48):
I have some sophomore and freshmen that have high hopes
for the future.
Speaker 2 (55:52):
Excellent was there? And I'll ask you this, was there
a performance this season by any one of these young
ladies that just stood out that you were excited about.
Speaker 6 (56:00):
Heck?
Speaker 5 (56:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (56:00):
So we have Jin on our last game with twenty
three kills.
Speaker 2 (56:03):
Oh wow, that was a big deal.
Speaker 9 (56:05):
Lola two with thirty thirty gigs as a freshman. So
that's that's a very good thing for a young team.
Speaker 2 (56:12):
Yes it is, Yes, it is. And then we'll bring
in some of your young ladies and make sure you
come right up on the mic. Go ahead and introduce
yourself to the Fox word. Get right up in there.
Introduce yourself to the Fox Sports radio audience.
Speaker 18 (56:25):
Hign Brooklyn Sutton, I'm a sophomore and I play right
side hitter.
Speaker 2 (56:30):
Okay, what is it about volleyball that you like? And
we'll get you excited about it and then just come
up on the mic.
Speaker 18 (56:38):
What like it's me excited is when like we play good.
It's like more fun when we play good, and like
it's just like the whole culture is more fun when
it's like a good, healthy team with like no drama
and we just like all.
Speaker 6 (56:49):
Love each other.
Speaker 2 (56:50):
I guess right. And being a sophomore playing varsity, have
you played do you play club or have you played before?
Because that's a huge accomplishment to be a sophomore playing varsity.
Speaker 18 (56:59):
Yeah, I grew up playing club volleyball.
Speaker 2 (57:01):
So yeah, okay, what do you what do you what
do you your goals? I would ask you, do you
have goals around you? Only a sophomore? What are your
goals or ambitions with volleyball? Because your club team will
probably come back soon.
Speaker 19 (57:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 18 (57:14):
I want to play in college for sure, whether it's
like junior college or for you, but I just want
to play in high school if it's like it goes good.
I wouldn't play outside of high school, but I'm just
having fun.
Speaker 9 (57:26):
In high school.
Speaker 2 (57:26):
So what's your dream college?
Speaker 18 (57:28):
I don't really have one, but I definitely want to
go out of state if I could.
Speaker 2 (57:32):
Okay, everyone wants to get out of the valley. Got it,
totally understood it. Well, you're only a sophomore, so we've
got a couple more years for you to play here
at Lakinta. Well, congratulations, young lady, Thanks so much for
coming by, and then we'll bring your next young lady in.
So please go ahead and introduce yourself to the Fox
Sports Radio audience.
Speaker 19 (57:53):
Hi, I'm Genesis Flores. I'm a senior and i'm outside hitter.
Speaker 2 (57:56):
Excellent and you're you were nominated for the All Star Game.
So talk to me a little bit about your season
and how excited you are about what you've done this year.
Speaker 19 (58:06):
A season was definitely a lot different than last year.
I'll say this is probably my favorite year playing volleyball.
I started sophomore year, which is kind of hard because
I felt behind. But the season was pretty good. I mean,
I enjoyed it. I know, like, I enjoyed having my team.
I feel like this was the best team I've had,
so it just felt really good.
Speaker 2 (58:23):
It went fast right those four years. So did you
accomplish your goals? That you were set you started a sophomore.
Was that your first time playing? Okay, when did you
have goals that you wanted to set for yourself when
you started as a sophomore.
Speaker 6 (58:37):
I just wanted to be better.
Speaker 19 (58:39):
I think starting as a sophomore, I felt behind. I
was not a hitter, was I wasn't even a good passer,
so I had to catch up quickly.
Speaker 6 (58:48):
And last year I was a DS.
Speaker 19 (58:50):
So I think that big jump from being like starting
back row like a subnd to this year being like
a starting outside. I think that's a goal I accomplished,
like fully being on the court at all times.
Speaker 2 (59:00):
Right, and then explain that to us. So when the
positions of the back row as opposed to being in
the front row, what what's the what's the difference for
doing that and why is that so important for a
volleyball player.
Speaker 19 (59:13):
I don't know. I feel like learning to be in
the back row, you really have to learn to trust
each other more because as a hitter, I personally like
when I'm in the front like I'm on my own,
Like my coverage is my area. I have to like
the scoring, like that's on me, blocking, that's on me.
When you're in the back row. You have more coverage
on the court. Yeah, but you also have your teammates
that you have to learn to trust and to communicate.
Speaker 2 (59:33):
And where you need to be there. You go, well, good, good,
good job. And then I'll ask you, is there a
son to get you hyped up when you're coming out there,
when you get excited to play.
Speaker 19 (59:43):
I feel like I.
Speaker 6 (59:44):
Need more like upbeat songs.
Speaker 19 (59:46):
So like I listened to Kendrick Okay, his music on helps.
Speaker 2 (59:50):
Okay, all right, all right, that's what I'm talking about
standing on business. I love what your what's your favorite?
We don't have to say the lyrics, but what's your
favorite Kendricks at Home?
Speaker 19 (01:00:00):
Yeah, I like DNA or from his new album, probably
Hay Now.
Speaker 2 (01:00:05):
So she's she's a legit Kendrick fan. Okay, all right,
I love it. All right, Okay, I love it. I
love it. Good stuff. Well, congratulations, young lady, and you
are a senior. All right, Well, congratulations, young ladies, thanks
so much for coming by you. And then we'll bring
our next young lady. Uh, please introduce yourself to the
Fox Sports Radio audience. Hello, and then come up on
the mic. Just you want to make sure you all.
(01:00:27):
There you go, there you go.
Speaker 3 (01:00:28):
Hello.
Speaker 6 (01:00:29):
My name is MICHAELA.
Speaker 19 (01:00:29):
Mao.
Speaker 20 (01:00:30):
I'm a senior and I play setter.
Speaker 2 (01:00:31):
Okay, excellent. So the cententer position is so important when
you I'll ask you this, when when the play is
happening and you know you're about to set your team
met up and they're just about to just smoke it, Like,
do you laugh at yourself? I mean, what are you
thinking when that's coming up and you know we're about
to get this?
Speaker 20 (01:00:49):
Well, especially when I know like someone I can trust,
whenever Jenna is in the front row, like I know
I have to get her the ball and I know
she's gonna take it off, like take it away and
get us that point.
Speaker 2 (01:00:57):
Yes, excellent. And then I'll ask you a little bit
about your how was your You're a senior now, so
you went through the four years. How did you feel
about did you accomplish your goals or your ambitions this year?
Speaker 20 (01:01:07):
My goal for this year was to really just get
out of my head because I feel like volleyball is
really a mental sport, and to support my team on
and off the court.
Speaker 6 (01:01:16):
And I feel like I did accomplish that.
Speaker 2 (01:01:18):
And being a senior, there's a lot of responsibility on
you to be an example for the underclass women. Do
you think that as you have the leadership where now
the team is in good hands, we're going forward, they'll
be Okay?
Speaker 20 (01:01:30):
Yes, I really do think all our underclassmen are leaders themselves,
and this season has shown me like how mentally tough
they are and how like physically ready they are to
play the sport. So I'm excited for them next year.
Speaker 2 (01:01:41):
What made you want to play volleyball?
Speaker 20 (01:01:45):
Well, I had never really played a sport before, and
I wanted to challenge myself physically. And once I started playing,
like the friendships I built and like just like the
rush you get when you play like I loved it.
Speaker 2 (01:01:54):
Yes, yeah, Do you guys have a dance? So who's
who's coordinating the TikTok? Who's in charge of that? So
you guys, are you gonna do the TikTok today? Or
have you done the TikTok today?
Speaker 20 (01:02:12):
We do tiktoks a lot, but our favorite is to
do like jigglow.
Speaker 6 (01:02:16):
Before our games.
Speaker 20 (01:02:17):
And okay, Book is always a leader of that would
do little dance to this type of stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:02:20):
Okay, all right, Oh I love it. I love it well. Congratulation,
young lady, thanks so much for stopping by. Excellent, and
then we'll bring our next young lady up. Please introduce
yourself and let's know what grade you're in.
Speaker 12 (01:02:31):
Hi.
Speaker 6 (01:02:31):
My name is Lola Carta and I am a freshman
and I play a bero.
Speaker 2 (01:02:34):
On DS, so the liberot you can float around everywhere? Yes? Yeah, okay,
So playing varsity as a freshman what an accomplishment? Were
you surprised or you're like, this is what I do? Well?
Speaker 6 (01:02:45):
I started on JV and then I proved myself when
I got moved up. But that was my goal going
into volleyball this high school, Sason, I really wanted to
make an impact.
Speaker 2 (01:02:53):
Did you play volleyball before? Was this your first year?
Speaker 6 (01:02:56):
I played one year club before yes.
Speaker 2 (01:02:58):
Okay, excellent. What do you What do you love about
the game of volleyball?
Speaker 6 (01:03:01):
I just love playing with everyone and getting so hype,
like screaming at each other like you got that, And
it's just so fun to be around these girls, especially.
Speaker 2 (01:03:08):
And I know you're a freshman, so you still have
a couple of years ahead of you. But what are
your goals with volleyball? What are you looking to do?
Speaker 6 (01:03:13):
With this game, I really want to play in college,
Like I want to go to maybe like a D
two or D one school.
Speaker 9 (01:03:17):
That's like the goal.
Speaker 6 (01:03:18):
But honestly, just like have fun of fit and just
go as far as I can.
Speaker 2 (01:03:21):
Is there any particular school volleyball or not? Is there
a dream school for you?
Speaker 6 (01:03:26):
My dream school has always been to play in Nebraska
at UNL.
Speaker 2 (01:03:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:03:29):
I think that's like everyone's school, like it's a big
Bible school. But there's also schools like USC and u
c LA as well.
Speaker 2 (01:03:34):
Right, And I think it was it Nebraska that had
a game. They had like almost one hundred thousand people
at the game. Yeah, that's my goodness there. They really
love volleyball, So that's got to be cool. When I'm
sure you have a big game and you have your
student body behind you, How exciting does that get you
when you have them pushing you.
Speaker 6 (01:03:51):
It was amazing our last game against Shadow, how so
many people and they're just so loud. The parents are hype,
the freshmen and JV teams are hype, and it just
made us feel so hype on the court, and I
feel like we played off of that energy.
Speaker 2 (01:04:01):
And it helps you push you to win. Yes, So
that's what we got to say. You got to get
a student body behind you. You got to get excited and
make it work. So what are your goals for the
next three years? Well, I want to at LQ. I
know you want to go play you say play Division
one or two, but for you at LQ.
Speaker 6 (01:04:17):
My goal for LQ is to reach a thousand digs
by my senior year.
Speaker 2 (01:04:20):
Do you know where you're at now?
Speaker 6 (01:04:21):
I'm like in the two hundreds.
Speaker 2 (01:04:22):
And you know the numbers. Okay, so you got it.
So that's good. That's excellent. Well, congratulations, young lady. You
still got three years to go, so excellent. Congratulations, young
l lady. Would bring your next teammate up, So please
come up and introduce yourself and let us know your
your your year, your name, and your in, your your number.
Speaker 19 (01:04:39):
Hi, my name is Othian Moyer and I'm a junior
and I am a setter.
Speaker 2 (01:04:42):
Okay, excellent, So I'll ask you the same question when
you're setting, when you're out there setting your teammates up,
is there do you have do you think yourself? I'm
going to put it here. I'll put it there because
I know we're about to get this right.
Speaker 12 (01:04:53):
Here.
Speaker 19 (01:04:54):
I think being a seer especially you have to be
like really quick making decisions. So like being on the court,
I think it's really like it's be wary of who, like, oh,
like she's hungry for this ball, Like I have just
sent her away because I know she can give me
that kill.
Speaker 2 (01:05:04):
Huh.
Speaker 19 (01:05:04):
So I think it's just really important, like if you
like by knowing your teammates and how they are, and like,
I think that's important when you're wanting to like set,
like you know who to set.
Speaker 13 (01:05:14):
The ball to?
Speaker 2 (01:05:14):
Is that something you know I've never asked to set
or this? So when you when you set it up
and you get your teammate there and you get that kill,
do you ever think to yourself, I knew, I just
I knew it that was the right thing to do.
Speaker 12 (01:05:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 19 (01:05:24):
I like most of the times, especially when I'm setting
like gen or brother no, oh my god, Like I
know they got that, and then whenever they do, I
just get so high because I just felt so good
like knowing and like trusting them and like being able
to know that I can trust them.
Speaker 2 (01:05:36):
Yes, yes, well, what are your goals with the game
of volleyball?
Speaker 19 (01:05:39):
Michaels are especially for the next like for my next
last year, just to have fun and really enjoy myself
on the court, because I know when I'm having fun,
I just like I play my best and I'm able
to like just like thrive and like Loom as a player.
Speaker 2 (01:05:54):
There you go. Well, congratulations, young lady. Thanks so much
for coming in. We greatly appreciate it. Excellent and that
I think we have one more teammate and we will
have her. Come on up. Please introduce yourself and let
us know your name, your number, your position, and then
just come up on the my sorry, by dad, I
just got to come about it.
Speaker 12 (01:06:13):
Hi.
Speaker 21 (01:06:13):
My name is ROBERTA. Messatan, I'm a junior and my
number is thirteen.
Speaker 2 (01:06:19):
Okay, So what position do you say? You played?
Speaker 9 (01:06:22):
A middle blocker?
Speaker 2 (01:06:23):
Middle blocker, So explain to me the middle blocker what
exactly so you I just learned I was educated. Well,
you know, I'm asking for a friend. I know everything
about supports on Fox Sports right now. So do you
play the first row of the back row, the front row,
the front row, so on the blocker, so you're the
one when someone's trying to go up and spike it
and you have to put it right back into it. Now,
tell me a little bit about I always see that
(01:06:43):
because you know someone's going up and they're about to
smack the ball. So I remember the movie Meet the
Falkers when they hit the ball and the busted the dude. No,
so I get nervous. So when you know they're coming
up and they're trying to do that, do you do
you you don't get nervous about that, or you just say, hey,
this is coming back your way.
Speaker 21 (01:06:57):
Yes, I'm very confident in what I can doing my
skills now. So my job is to stop the ball
from coming onto our side of the court, and I
think I do a pretty good job at that.
Speaker 2 (01:07:09):
And when I watch volleyball the young ladies, when they
do that and they get a block, they get so excited.
So that must be a huge rush when you do that.
Speaker 6 (01:07:16):
Yes, it's a really great feeling.
Speaker 2 (01:07:18):
And then you send it back and you tell the
other girls on the other side, don't do that again.
Speaker 9 (01:07:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:07:24):
So tell me a little your junior, So tell me
a little bit about your goals. What are you looking
to do and accomplish with volleyball.
Speaker 21 (01:07:30):
Unfortunately I wasn't able to play this season. Okay, but
my goals for this next season is to show who I.
Speaker 2 (01:07:38):
Am and what I can do, and that shows you
that you've got to be an outstanding player with character.
You're still here. Coach still brought you in even though
you couldn't play this year. So next year, so you
want to stand up and do that? Do you? Are
you looking to play beyond high school with.
Speaker 21 (01:07:53):
Volleyball or I haven't really decided, but I am up
to it.
Speaker 2 (01:07:58):
Okay, I think.
Speaker 6 (01:07:59):
It'll be fun.
Speaker 2 (01:08:00):
Excellent. Well, congratulations, young lady, thanks so much for coming in.
We really appreciate you. You still got another year to go,
so yes, so congratulations, So coach will bring you back in.
What a cast you have here of your young ladies.
I mean you have the good thing about you. You
have like freshmen, sophomore, juniors, so you got a real
balance of players. Yeah yeah, So so tell me a
(01:08:23):
little bit looking forward to next season. What do you
guys looking into accomplish. I know you got some young
ladies return, you're going to lose some leadership, but do
you have more freshmen and junior coming down down to
our freshmen and sophomores. I'm sorry coming down the way.
Speaker 9 (01:08:36):
I'm just gonna speak very confidently and say that they
better watch out for Lakita.
Speaker 2 (01:08:40):
Okay, Okay, how many years have you been to coach there.
Speaker 9 (01:08:42):
Now, coch Oh, this is my first year at Lakeitha,
but I've coached in different schools in the valley for
roughly about ten years.
Speaker 2 (01:08:49):
Okay. So, and that's one of those things. So come
next year, and coaches always say this, it takes two
or three years for your your system really to get going.
And the good thing, since you have underclass women year,
they'll know that that's one thing you won't have to
worry about. They'll already know what you want, what the
expectations are, and then you'll have leaders that can then
teach the other underclassmen. So I know you've got to
(01:09:10):
be excited about it. Sure you say watch out for you?
Absolutely excellent. So do you know when you don't know,
are you looking at non league or is there anyone
in particular you guys are looking to set up or
you probably don't. It's probably too soon in the process.
Speaker 9 (01:09:26):
You mean as far as ours next year?
Speaker 2 (01:09:29):
Yeah, yeah, sorry about that. Yes, it's okay.
Speaker 9 (01:09:31):
I for sure want to go to the HYMN Tournament again.
And I'm looking forward to the Queen of the Court
tournament that they have in Anaheim, and as far as
preseason goes, I haven't really set that up yet, but
it should be. It should be good. We'll play against
some teams that are even right.
Speaker 2 (01:09:47):
And I always asked this because when you talk, you
may be think about someone. You play tournaments, those are
quick turnarounds. You play teams that you're not scouting and
teams you may not have a lot of information on.
Is that a challenge for you? I always want to know,
is that a challenge for you as a coach because
you got to coach on the fly because you may
not know the ability of other teams? Right? Right?
Speaker 9 (01:10:07):
I mean yes and no, I mean you kind of
you just you kind of prepare for anything any no
matter what. I can't I can't really say for any
other coach, but I mean, if they're going to have
a great outside, hate her, great middle, great right side,
it's pretty much the same when you play against the.
Speaker 2 (01:10:20):
Team, right Do you think that gives your team's character
when they when they go out there and they have
to figure it out on their own. Definitely, definitely excellent.
Well congratulations coach. Thanks I appreciate you young ladies, give for
being patient. So sorry if we had you guys out
there waiting, I apologize about that. That was totally on me.
But thank you so much for coming in. Coach. We
appreciate you. Congratulations to your young ladies from LQ. We
(01:10:43):
look forward to continue to watching you and continue to
keep me posted in the progress and how everything goes.
And I like a coach. You hit me up and
you said, hey, what about our girl? So I like
that you are aggressive, like hey, you make sure you
don't forget LQ. So we definitely appreciate that. Come next year, well,
we'll definitely be looking for coach as to coach that.
So we'd love to get you in the folk come
next year.
Speaker 9 (01:11:03):
Sounds good. I appreciate being here.
Speaker 2 (01:11:05):
Thank you, thank you so much. So again, that's la
Key to the Blackhawks volleyball girls volleyball. No, it's lady Blackhawks.
Let me get it right, let me get it right,
put respect on it. Put respect on it. Now that
I know they got to get to their TikTok, so
I want to make sure they get that their tick socks,
their chance and their cheers. So let's go ahead and
let the young ladies do that. But thank you so
much for coming in, and thank you young ladies for
(01:11:26):
coming by. See it wasn't so bad, right, it wasn't
so difficult. But this and thank you coach. This is
