(00:00):
Hey, it's Ashley and I'm Livewith a Cody Wyoming podcast and I'm so
excited because today I have broke withme and Brooke is putting on Compete for
a Cause. She has done this. This is her fifth year. Tell
me all about it. So,yes, it is our fifth year.
First of all, thanks for havingme. Compete for a Clause is a
nonprofit organization they started five years agopenn. It is a talent competition fundraiser
(00:24):
where the talent, the people whoare in the show get to use their
talents to make a difference. Andso each year we have a goal that
we try to find a part countingkid with the medical condition and feature them.
And so all of the funds thatwe raise through sponsorships and just from
the show donations goes to the family, to the kid we have had,
it go to organizations. Whoever isnominated and whoever our board feels like is
(00:48):
the best recipient for that year.So they get one hundred percent of the
funds that we use and they getto use it for their medical needs and
to help them. That is somethingthat you hold on. So you have
a talent competition and you actually dovet all of these talents, so they
have to send in their application.Yes, yeah, so they have to
send in all video auditions, andthen we as a board get together and
(01:11):
we look at every submission, wescore them all and then we try to
figure out what will be the bestshow, because our goal is to put
on top notch talent show that isa competition, but not have all the
same things. So we have gotsubmissions before where we have three singers that
are really amazing, all in thesame age category. But we can't just
(01:33):
have the whole show singing. Wehave to That is the hard part.
The part that I don't like thevery most is telling them the thing we're
not in the show, Well, well, I know what you have coming
up this year that we can lookforward to. We have a big group
coming over from Level in the adultgroup, and they're dancing and they do
a great job. They got atop gun theme going on. We have
a group from CCPA here locally that'sdancing, and I actually was at the
(01:55):
recital and watched them both nights andI teared up both times, and so
I just ask them pay I'm gonnabe in the show. So I'm very
excited about that. We have singers, singer songwriters that are very talented that
are going to be in the show. Someone's playing me accordion. She's got
some really cool she actually arranged itherself and taught herself how to play with
movie theme songs. She's going todo that. Did I say piano,
(02:19):
Yeah? No I didn't, Yeah, but I her chip artists. Yes.
Well, this year we added visualarts, so I know there's so
many people that are very talented thatwould never get on stage. I want
to showcase them. But we hadvisual arts submissions this year, and we
told them if they made it,if their piece made it into the show,
that will be on display. Mostof them you can bid. Some
of them they need to keep fortheir portfolios, which I understand. And
then we have a live artist,Austin Ratsliff I heard is the live artist.
(02:43):
Austin is someone who it draws wildlife. So I think he's going to
do live art there and do asketch and you're going to auction it off.
Yeah, it's gonna be really awesome. I'm so excited about that.
I'm excited about that too. Tellme your recipient this year, A little
bit about her. She is nineyear old Nyla Marx and she has Tourette's
OCD ADHD anxiety and the chooses recentlydiagnosed with autism. Through lots of research
(03:07):
and just some experiences that their familyhad, they realized that service dog would
probably be the best to help herto live more of a normal life.
That is what we're doing. We'regonna we're raising funds to get her a
service dog. The reallyqul thing isDuty Dogs here locally. We got in
contact with them and they felt likethat this is something they could do to
train, pressure therapy and just tonihilist specific needs. And so she's been
(03:31):
able to pick out the puppy andshe has been involved with the training and
just not too long ago they tookit to their church service. The dog
as because I'll have playates or sleepovers, and she was able to sit through
the whole church service, which hasn'thappened before. Amazing. Yeah, so
it's all well. On the way. I got to meet Nila and the
dog the other day. She's amazing. You are at the Park County Library.
(03:53):
I know they gave you a donation. Yeah, so how far all
along are you in the donation process? How much is the dog. Let's
just be transparent. So we wantto give you the whole dog money.
Yeah, we would love that.So I from what I've been told,
at minimum it's going to be sixteenthousand dollars. The dog itself a three
thousand, and then it's like thirteenhundred a month for training, which is
a discount from duty dogs that we'reso thankful for. And it could be
(04:15):
a year and a half. We'renot sure. So at minimum sixteen thousand,
I would feel safe up to twentytwenty five thousand, just to make
sure that we had what we neededto pay for the dog, and then
if we have any extra, itwill go to their family because it's going
to be an ongoing medical expenses forNyla and then the dog needs dog food,
(04:36):
bet bills, shot, all thosethings. So I would love to
be able to give them a checkas well as the dog. But right
now we're shooting for the dog, okay, and now fire along are you
in the process. So we areabout eleven thousand right now, and so
that is with our sponsorships that havecome in. We saw the few checks
that need to come in, butnot too manymore. Then we're hoping through
(04:57):
the show night donations and the auctionsand all those things. We're also auctioning
off a puppy doodle puppy Oh wow, yeah, so a company Yellowstone Doodles
and Level. So you get apick and Bernie Doodle, Ausie Doodle,
Golden Doodle. I think those willgo through. They have standard or Mini
and you get to pick the puppywhen the puppy's born. Oh my gosh,
that's amazing. Yeah, we're Icannot believe they did that. Those
(05:20):
are not cheap either, No,it's very kind of them. Last year,
how many people did you have aten? I want to say like
four hundred? Okay, yeah,And where's it at at the Wynona Thompson
Auditorium which is in Cody. Ifyou don't know where it's at, if
you're not from here locally, justgoogle Wynona Thompson right, yeah, yeah,
it's connected to the high school. But yeah, it'll come up.
(05:40):
Okay, perfect. And if youare from here, get out here and
support Nilad. This is such anamazing cause and brook Works are seriously turtail
off every single year to make surethis all happens. You are a huge
asset to this community. I'm verygrateful, cool, thank you, You're
very welcome. I know that Nilais grateful and her family is grateful.
I've watched them have lots of tears. If someone doesn't really know a lot
(06:00):
about this, encourage them to comeout here, tell them why they want
to come. If you want tosee the best talent show on all of
the Big Horn basin, I amconfident in saying that it is the best
talent show in the Big Horn Basin, but I think it adds another element
with it being a competition. Ijust want people to be rewarded for their
hard work, and they want themdo not just stand up there and just
do their little thing, but putin a lot of work, and they
have worked all summer long to getready for the show. Come to see
(06:24):
top much talent. There's something foreveryone that they all enjoy and love.
We'll do a meet and greet beforethat's where Austin will be out there doing
his life sketch. You'll be ableto meet the contestants and then you can
come. Save your seat because wedon't save seats, we just do donations
at the door, and so it'sfree to attend or donation at the door.
So a donation at the door iswhat gets you inside. Yeah,
(06:44):
And the date is August twelfth atsix pm. It's a Saturday, August
twelfth at six pm. You wantto get there about four four thirty because
there's going to be lots of thingsgoing on before the talent show starts.
Make sure you get there August twelveto six pm. The boy there.
It's also Compete for a cause.Compete for a cause, but we will
have we're having new this year orsomeone coming in from California. Her name's
(07:05):
Christy Krause choose the former American IOld contestant. She also has Tourett's herself
and has released a song called whoI Am, and she's going to come
and sing that and tell her storyabout her journey in Turets and how she's
accepted what she has and then theircommunity and even trials. And I heard
you have good trucks too, sowe have food darts coming, we have
(07:27):
