In the past week throughout Colorado Springs, law enforcement reported several notable incidents involving theft, fraud, and major investigations. According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado, a second Colorado Springs funeral home operator has pleaded guilty to defrauding grieving families and misusing COVID-19 relief funds; this comes after Jon M. Hallford of Colorado Springs was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for a similar scheme, with the case status now closed following guilty pleas and sentencing. No public call for suspect information is currently in effect in these cases. In events coordinated with federal partners, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office assisted in ongoing investigations related to new and continuing federal cases involving fraud and other white-collar crimes—these remain under investigation without release of further details or suspect descriptions at this time.
A disturbance call was reported late at night in the Falcon area, northeast Colorado Springs, where officers responded on July 24, 2025. The incident is still under investigation and no arrests have been announced. On July 26, in the southern section of Colorado Springs, sheriff’s deputies responded to a call shortly before 10AM, which remains under review; the case number and additional details have not been released by authorities.
Within jail and detention facilities, on July 24, a 47-year-old female in custody was found unresponsive in her cell at the El Paso County Jail, with the incident ruled a death investigation. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate, and no foul play is currently suspected.
There were no major violent incidents or ongoing manhunts reported for the city core in the latest bulletins, and, as of this week, no cases were announced where public assistance is needed to identify suspects in ongoing investigations. According to published Colorado Springs Police and El Paso County Sheriff’s updates, investigators continue to resolve older cold cases, including the 1988 homicide of Towana Lewis, for which the Sheriff’s Office again encouraged anyone with knowledge to come forward.
No large-scale arrests or patterns of burglary, auto theft, or assault outside of standard weekly volume have been highlighted. Fatal and serious injury traffic incidents were also reported around Constitution Avenue and Tutt Boulevard per official city announcements; the deceased driver in the July 18 fatal crash was identified on July 21, and authorities are not seeking additional information or suspects in that ongoing question of cause.
Listeners should note no exceptional clusters of a particular crime type or a surge in property crimes have been outlined by authorities over the prior week. Law enforcement does, however, caution the public to remain vigilant for scams and fraud targeting local families and businesses, especially those involving false claims of COVID-19 assistance or funeral service fees. Anyone with information on unsolved incidents or suspicious activity is urged to contact the Colorado Springs Police at 719-444-7000 or the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office at 719-390-2000, or to submit tips anonymously via Crime Stoppers.
