In the past week, Colorado Springs saw a range of criminal incidents reported across several neighborhoods. On July 13 in the area of South Academy Boulevard, officers responded to an alleged aggravated assault involving a weapon. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and the incident remains under investigation. Police are asking anyone with information to come forward and assist in the case.
In the downtown district on July 14, law enforcement responded to a burglary in progress at a commercial property near East Kiowa Street. Entry had been forced overnight and several items were reported missing. The investigation is ongoing; no arrests have been made at this time.
On July 15 in the Stratton Meadows area, officers initiated a traffic stop that resulted in the arrest of an adult male on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. The suspect faces felony drug charges and remains in custody pending further court proceedings.
Also on July 15, in the vicinity of Constitution Avenue and Chelton Road, police were dispatched on reports of an alleged auto theft. The vehicle was later found abandoned in the Powers corridor. Officers have not announced any arrests, and the case is pending further leads.
Late evening on July 15, patrol units responded to a disturbance call at a retail center off North Academy Boulevard. Officials confirmed an alleged shoplifting incident escalated into a physical confrontation involving two adult males. One suspect fled the scene. Police described the individual as a white male, mid-20s, approximately 5’10”, last seen wearing a dark hoodie and jeans. Authorities are seeking public assistance to identify this individual.
On July 16, officers investigated an alleged domestic violence incident in the Old Colorado City area. The involved party, an adult male, was arrested without incident. The case will be referred to the district attorney for review.
During the morning hours of July 17, police conducted a welfare check in the Briargate community where they discovered evidence of an alleged criminal mischief targeting multiple parked vehicles. Several cars had windows smashed overnight. Investigators believe the events are related and encourage anyone with surveillance footage or information to contact law enforcement.
On July 18, the Sand Creek division reported an alleged attempted burglary at a residence near South Circle Drive. The suspect fled the location when approached by a neighbor. There is currently no suspect description available, and the case remains active.
No case numbers have been made publicly available at the time of this report. In reviewing the weekly incidents, a pattern continues of vehicle-related property offenses, such as thefts and vandalism, especially in residential and commercial parking areas. There were also multiple reports involving assaults or disturbances at retail and public gathering spots.
