Forward slash State Defense Force.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Do you have any plans or are you currently lobbying
at the federal level regarding any new federal legislation that
would include state defense forces or state guards.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Yes, absolutely, yes, We've been actively doing that for several
years now. We have draft legislation that's now been submitted
in a couple of different bills. The bottom line is
that you can chalk this one up to a capital
(00:46):
that is not big on a new and new legislation.
You can also chalk it up to the politics of
the Hill and a number of other things. My belief
is that Saugust is going to get more done.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
Ultimately, we're not going to stop with our federal lobbying,
and we have been doing it and we are going
to continue to do it. It is an important part
of what our organization does. And it's also important to
just keep the good will going in that we've been
briefing folks in charge of homeland security at the congressional
and senator level, and that's incredibly important because it just
(01:23):
creates their awareness. As I like to say to Senators
and congressmen that I've met with, I'm not necessarily going
to give you all the answers, but I'm going to
at least load you up with the questions to ask, and.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
Those become important.
Speaker 4 (01:38):
I think our biggest push, and there's going to be
a huge push this year from my seat, as there
has been as the snowball has been growing at Saugust
is we're doing a lot more with the states and
the territories directly.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
And this is in tight partnership with a number of
federal agencies that want us to do exactly that because
they want a better coordinated defense structure amongst the states
that the federal agencies can get their heads around. Keeping
in mind that.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
Thanks to Passikumatatus and a number of other good pieces
of legislation that are out there, the federal government can't
mandate a lot of this stuff to the states.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
They just have to suggest and guide. But the states
themselves have to choose, as they should, as I believe
they should, which of those regulations and leanings they want
to do as a state that's most important to their operations.
