In Part 3 of our Commanders Briefing podcast with Lt. Colonel (MD) Barry Greene, President of The State Guard Association of The United States (SGAUS), we dive into an exciting new initiative launching this spring: the SGAUS Search & Rescue program. This upcoming program is designed to provide a unified, national framework that State Defense Forces across the country can adopt and integrate into their existing training curriculums. Lt. Col. Greene outlines how this standardized approach will elevate the professionalism and operational readiness of State Defense Force personnel involved in emergency response and disaster relief missions.

The course will not only offer critical skills and certifications but also bring with it a significant symbol of achievement—a prestigious Search & Rescue tab that qualified personnel will be authorized to wear on their uniforms. The segment highlights SGAUS’s continued efforts to professionalize and enhance the mission readiness of State Defense Forces nationwide through rigorous, recognized training programs.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
Now I'm going to give you another smile. There's another
one we're debuting this year with a real exercise and
real strength search and rescue. Search and rescue is not
going to be a badge. Search and rescue is going
to be a tab based of course, on New York's tab.
So we're just basically bringing it back, because why redesign

(00:35):
something that was already perfect, but the search and rescue tab.
What we've done is we've got some officers and NCOs
putting together a complete, nationally recognized, third party certified program
for search and rescue. Because again, you know, you and I,
mister Marciniak, are products of New York State Defense Force,

(00:56):
but in our respective seats, we have to look at
all all state defense forces. New York does not currently
have a search and rescue program. Other states do. Other
states have very very aggressive state defense force programs. We're
putting some real training and badge behind that, and the
badge being the tab. But I'm sure you realize the

(01:18):
tab becomes very, very impressive. People love wearing them on
the sleeve, and there can be other interesting scenarios where
you start looking at just like in the army, does
the tab belong on the right sleeve if they're an
active member of that force, And those are going to
be questions we'll have to add answer an actually individual

(01:42):
state defense forces will have to answer that. But that
tab will become available again this year under that new
search and rescue program, and there will be a big
exercise this year at the annual conference
