recent research, we're seeing unprecedented levels of media consolidation. Large
corporations are increasingly controlling not just what we see now,

It is, and what's particularly concerning is how digital technology,
which was supposed to democratize information, is actually making it
easier to control narratives.

Well, take what's happening in Russia. Since twenty twenty two,
the government has been forcing publishers to retroactively delete all
mentions of political opposition, dissent over the war in Ukraine
and LGBTQ plus issues.

Wait, they can just erase history like.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
That in the digital age. Yes, and it's happening faster
than ever before.

But surely someone must be fighting back against this.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
Absolutely. There's actually an incredible initiative called the Russian Independent
Media Archive a RIMA that launched in twenty twenty three.

What do they do.

They're preserving the work of fifty five independent media outlets
dating back to two thousand, when Putin took office. It's
a direct challenge to stay
