In the  New Testament Greek, the word translated “church” is ekklesia—literally “the called-out ones.” It refers not to a building or address, but to a living community of believers bound together in Christ. When Paul writes about the church in Corinth or Ephesus, he never points to a temple or steeple; he speaks of individuals who belong to one another and Christ

Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to the Fortune Factor Podcast. We're conversations Do Matter
coming to you live for Washington, d C. Thank you
for joining us. This is your host, Mike Fortune come
to you live from Washington, d C. With the like
expiency on a Fortune Factor podcast. Here we have in

(00:23):
it to church lie number one. Going to church is
in the Bible, with all due respects, no it's not.
The words go to church are nowhere to be found
in scripture. So the word church in the Bible, the
original word is ecclesea, which means called out ones. And
this is not a location, This is not a building,

(00:45):
This is not someplace that you go to. It is you,
it is me, It is the body of Christ all
throughout the world. It is a living organism. Now, Clement
of Alexandria, an early church father who struggled with tons
of egregious error, he did say something very paramount when
this phrase go to church began to circulate. And here's

(01:07):
what he said. You cannot go to what you are,
and that's perfect. You cannot go to a place which
you actually are. You are the church, I am the church.
According to the Bible, you do not go to church.

(01:29):
The early church did not go to church. They did
not go to a building a location named church. Now
I'm not against going to a building a location named church.
They're nice and warm when it's cold outside. They have
air conditioning when it's hot. But according to the Bible,

(01:50):
there is nothing that says go to church. Lie number
two of the top ten lies about going to church.
The Bible commands us to go to church in Hebrews
ten twenty five, do not forsake the assembly. Now, this
is the most taken out of context passage about going
to church. And why is that? Because this is written

(02:13):
to the Hebrews, hence the name of the letter. Did
the Hebrews go to church? No, they did not go
to church. As a matter of fact, the first church
building wasn't even erected until approximately one hundred and fifty
to two hundred years after the Letter to the Hebrews
was written. So proof texting Hebrews ten twenty five, do

(02:34):
not for sacty assembly. You can't do that because there
was no church. So what's the context. The context is
continuing to gather to encourage one another about Jesus, what
he's done, to spur one another on toward love and
good deeds. The Hebrews at the time needed to continue

(02:56):
to hear about Jesus. There were many un believing Hebrews,
not just today but back then, who say Jesus is
not the Messiah. That's what the Letter to the Hebrews
is addressing. Continue to gather, continue to tell people about Jesus,
which replaced the system of Judaism. Now another couple things

(03:18):
to think about. When you go to Hebrews ten twenty
five and say, no, this is a commandment to go
to church, Well, the Hebrews did not go to church.
They went to two different buildings. They went to the synagogues,
which was a place of Jewish tourist study. They do
not say Jesus is the Messiah. Even today, go to
your local synagogue and they will say we're waiting on

(03:39):
the Messiah. Jesus is not the Messiah. So that's not church.
They also went to the temple. Now, the temple was
a place of bloody animal sacrifices for the forgiveness of sins. Well,
that system of the bloody animal sacrifices for the forgiveness
of sins was replaced with the warmth for all bloody

(03:59):
sacs or vice of Jesus, And that is what the
entire letter of Hebrews is about. Not only that the
temple's gone, it was destroyed in the year a d. Seventy.
So now you are the temple according to One Corinthians
three sixteen and First Corinthians six nineteen, not a judaic temple,

(04:20):
and not any other temple. You are the House of God,
no more physical location, because He lives in you. Right
now you are one spirit with the Lord. Lie Number
three of the top ten lies about going to church.
One of the ten commandments tells you to go to church,

(04:40):
remember the Sabbath and keep it holy. Now, with all
due respect, that's not church. You think that because of
man made tradition, because somebody along the way decided to
tell you that remember the Sabbath and keep it holy
as going to church. But it's not. Remember this is
directed at the Hebrews. They were the ones under the law,

(05:05):
which was six hundred and thirteen commandments, ten of which
are the ten Commandments. One of those ten is remember
the Sabbath and keep it holy. Now, did they go
to church to keep the Sabbath holy? No, they did not.
Here's what they did. They didn't work that's it. And
if you did any work on the Sabbath, you are

(05:28):
to be put to death according to Exodus, chapter thirty five,
verse two. As a matter of fact, in numbers fifteen,
there is a man who is put to death because
he is picking up sticks on the Sabbath. So, if
you're truly observing the Sabbath as a Hebrew, it's definitely
not gonna be on Sunday. It's gonna be from Friday

(05:49):
to Saturday, which is when the Sabbath was, and you
just did not do any work. You didn't go to
church on that day. So saying remember the Sabbath and
keep it whole is a commandment to go to church.
That is actually a line lie number four of the
top ten lies about going to church. If you stop
going to church, you have fallen from grace and you're

(06:12):
no longer a Christian. So this phrase falling from grace
has nothing to do with you going to church. It
has to do with the Judaizers rolling into town and
teaching the Galatian Christians to follow parts of the law.
Paul said, if you are doing that, you have fallen
from grace. Now, this is not about losing your salvation

(06:33):
this is about your thinking. Now, if you are attempting
to put in Judaism in with the Gospel, you have
fallen from grace in your thinking, in your mind. You
cannot fall from grace in your salvation, because the grace
of God has grasped onto you and he will never

(06:55):
let go. Lie number five of the top ten lies
about going to church. Church, you have to be dedicated
and go to church to prove you're a Christian. Again,
this is nowhere to be found in the Bible. This
is just passed down man made traditional guilt. It probably
started with the Puritans because they were the ones who

(07:17):
started this major guilt trip about not going to church.
Before that, it didn't exist. But now you think that
you have to be dedicated to go to a church,
and if you don't, you're proven that you're not a Christian.
But that's nowhere to be found in scripture. The way
you become a Christian is you trust in Jesus once

(07:38):
in your lifetime, by grace. That's it. By number six
of the top ten lies about going to church. If
you want to check out lie number six through ten,
All right, there you go lies about church on the
fortune factor. Thank you. For listening. Have a great day, love, peace,
joy and happiness. M.
