NRL 2025 | It's the Tanah and Taine show

The Wahs are back in the winners circle. It was a fantastic weekend to be a Wahs supporters and John and Richard are over the moon.

They review the big win against the Tigers, and were full of praise for Tanah Boyd after his club debut, and Taine Tuaupiki after his first start at fullback for the season.

It's onto the next one though, as the boys preview this weekend's big game against the Knights, before reviewing State of Origin and sharing who they think wil be playing finals footy in September.

Catch Warriors. The Boys back on the board, first win
in a month. It feels good to be alive.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
I am Richard, one of your hosts for today. I'm
joined us always by Michael John. John John. How are you?

Speaker 3 (00:36):
How are you feeling after their Warriors one on the weekend?
Relieve is probably the word, bro. I'm feeling feeling good, relieved.
You know, everyone worries about the you know, the Bikers
when it comes to the Warriors, where we don't think
to get a win after a buye And I saw
some stats as well where they talked about where when
the All Blacks play as well on the same weekend,
we've never won a game apparently. I don't know if

it's back and I don't know if it's just just
of some crab and someone to screw out there. But yeah, no,
comfortable one. So really happy about that. Really happy to
see the boys, you know, take it and get the
campaign back on track.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yeah, I'm with your there. It was pretty you know,
obviously didn't start off at how we're planning.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
You know, Tyler's got a quick try, but the boys
sort of bounce back after that. Well and and never
really look about losing, which was which is nice.

It seemed like it was the first first win at
home for a while. I think they'd lost to two
games at Mount Smart in a row. Yeah, and he.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Had lost yeh, hadn't won about five weeks because of buyers,
and then we've he had a couple of losses. So
just really nice for the boys to get back on
the board against the Tigers that had pecked pecked out
and Mount Smart. Obviously, John, you were supposed to go,
but he couldn't make it a knee bro, how you're
pretty good at about that.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
Yeah, there's the part of I left out and then
then yeah, supposed to go, supposed to go up there.

Speaker 4 (01:55):
It was for my birthday weekend.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
My wife makes it like an annual thing where he
takes me up to Mount Smart for again, there always
seems to be a home game around my birth which
works well for me. But yeah, the little one got sick,
and you know, it wasn't wasn't fit to fly. So
I'm gonna put the family first, mate, so you gadded,
but you know what, you know, still happy with the win,
So happy the win. Longs we won the game, and
we're gonna go up again another time, so just got

to forget which game to go to.

But yeah, no guded, but happy with.

The win, absolutely, Yeah, So it was it was a
good one over the one over the Tigers.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
Thirty four in the inn, so we sort of ran
away the end. It was sixteen eight at halftime, but
tries to rock a beery Harris Savid. They've got a
couple of tries in the end, yell and looked sort
of came back to his base. He scored a try
on the corner at eas and your boy, look at
Halla Sema over laying the game to sort of put

the icen on the cake. Tann of boy kicking five
from six, so very very promising signs signs there for
for him and then seven years going forward. And it
just most importantly kicked that four point lead sort of
above fifth place for the Warriors. You know, we talked
last week about whether the Warriors will make them make

the top four and needed to be winning games like that.

We both said that, so it's good that they could.
They could do it, and they've got another another wonderball
game this weeking as well, and also get some only
four points off their first place with the Raiders out
at the moment, so any think could happen, you know,
if you know, if if the Raiders or the Bulldogs
or the Storm, so they have a couple of losses
and the Warriors take the way back, we could sneak
ourway into sicking the third at the moment. But at

the moment, I'll just be happy with with fourth A
so long way there last.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
Yeah, Well, to be honest with you, I mean we
we calculated, we did our own quick calculations and look
they were really quick.

Speaker 4 (03:52):
It was just like yes, no, yes, no, and we
and we we we, you know.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
Talk into consideration all those teams, whether they will you know,
win their games, lose their games, and where they'll end up.
And we still sort of came to the conclusion that
the Warriors will still remain fourth, but they wouldn't push up.
But you know, the competition has been a bit of
a roller coaster, so many upsets. Let's just hope there'd
be one, you know, they're just works in our favor.

The Broncos played the Titans on the weekend, and I
was really hoping the Titans would just pull up, pull
off something I know they don't had the greatest season,
but I just I just was hoping that they would
pull off something, especially with Kieren for and you know,
announcing it was tirrement.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
I thought they were just just.

Speaker 3 (04:32):
Rally together to do something, to do something, just to
just to change their their course of the season so
they don't end up last.

Speaker 4 (04:39):
But it didn't happen.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
But no, I think, you know, going back to the Warriors,
we got that four point buffer.

Speaker 4 (04:47):
Brisbane are going to buy this week, so that helps them.

Speaker 3 (04:50):
So we're gonna we've got to keep in that winning
ways to keep that sort of their gap.

Speaker 4 (04:53):
I think giving their gap is important, but take it
one game at a time for now.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
Anyway, Y absolutely sure of just dive in a few
a few interesting stats before we sort of dive into
some of the game and some of the players that
we thought.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
But I just had a couple of stats I thought interesting.
I was surprised position was fifty under forty nine. I
thought it would have been a.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
Bit more dominant towards the Warriors considering the score, but
just showed that, you know, it was a sort of
game it was and we were able to sort of
make the most of our chances, we were completing eighty
one percent, so it's about where we're sitting for the season.
Really good completion rate, I think, you know, I'm.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
Sure you'd agree is a Warriors theme with set set
through a few seasons over the years, where you know,
we're probably only completing at seventy seventy five percent, so
to be yeah, basically completing eight of teen seats as
it was a good sign. We had one hundred and
eighty runs to one hundred and sixty nine in one thousand,
seven hundred and nine runs to one thousand, three hundred

and forty one of the meters and yeah, I mean
some some big ones. Teen line breaks to three thirty five,
tackle breaks to twenty nine and a kickerturn made us
two hundred and two and only eight.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
So we were able to just take our opportunities, dominated
the steps, so we needed to and keep the two
points so long way that last the big, big talking
point going into the game.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
There was sort of two sort of positional positional changes,
which there was a lot of interesting obviously with Luke
Metcalf going down with his a c L against the
Broncos and Chance sort of been out for four or
five weeks to start at a bet with T Pickie
actually because I thought personally, I thought he had an
absolutely fantastic game. We're obviously both big, big fans of

his and loved to singles praises.

What was your sort of you happy with to Apookey's
forming their.

Speaker 4 (06:41):
Game, John, Oh, definitely.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
I mean, I know he's been out in Cup, but
he's that kind of player that can just step back
into the first grade and perform. That's why That's why
I was sort of guaded that he literally was left
out because he was doing so well beforehand. And obviously
he doesn't. I mean he was. He wasn't because a
form you know, for his performance or anything was there

was just because someone else came in. But I just
which I thought it has been out fear because the
person that came into to push them out hasn't had
the greatest season. He had a bit of game DWS
this game, but he hasn't had the greatest of season.

So but look, you know, T a.

Picky, he starts right back in and like and you know,
he played like he'd never left. He played like he'd
never left the team in first grade. So love them
there and you know, I don't know how long.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
Chances.

I think it was four or five weeks, so it
will probably happen to him beginning unfortunately where to Picky
will have to go to back to reserve grade. But
I mean he's taking the opportunities. It's not like he's
it's not like he's like, you know, not performing. He's
taking his opportunities. But I mean in the long run,
half well, that looked like in the long run because
you know, he's too good. He's too good of a

player to be playing New Past Cup and then there's
no there's no you know, not trying to fend in
New Past Cup players because it's so important that side
as well to the first grade side where they developed
there to go into first grade. But I just think
he's too they're good of a player till, you know,
to be missing on first grade.

That's one trying to think.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
Yeah, I'm with you, bro.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
I just want to ask her, yeah, like whether you
think there's a way that the Warriors can can play
chants and to a Pickie together, because personally, I wouldn't
mind seeing, you know, to a pickie keep the number
one jersey and remove chances and centers purely because you know,
we've got a bit of the can a bit of
depth in the outside backs. Rocko Bier has gone down
again for about the fifth time this season. Paul I

can't catch a break that I told us was coming
back to it. And we've had Pompey there, but you know,
and Pompy's being solid.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
But without being spearticular, is there a way you think
that those two can can can both both play on
the team at the same time.

Speaker 4 (08:44):
Oh, definitely, But you know, we'll we've sold out. That's
that's the thing.

Speaker 3 (08:48):
He doesn't seem to He doesn't seem to make those
kind of no rash changes really, you know, he's not
into those big race changes. He just seems to just
go back to the status quad. And I mean, yes,
it's not me trying to have a get Webster. I
just think that he doesn't seem to step outside the
box sometimes. That's just my opinion. He doesn't see he
doesn't seem to step outside the box and try something

new because I think I mean, I mean everyone out
there that's listening to this or watching this right now,
I mean, as you said, you know, we're big, big
advocates for to a picky and I just.

Think again, I'm saying this.

I'm saying this again, he's too good of a player
to leave out on the first grade side.

Speaker 4 (09:25):
So you have to find a way to find a
way to put him in there, just like you're saying.

And I think the way to do that is through center,
because at the moment we've put you know, for this
week's game is the Knights that put Petewell and center,
so you know, to accommodate Rockerberry, you know, being out
even though Lowlto is still there, he's on the extended bench.
So I honestly think they can do that. I honestly
think they can do that. And I know that chances,
you know, that's he wants to play fullback, and fair enough,

that's a spot. But I think, you know, you can't
leave to a picky out. He's too good of a
player to leave out in my opinion, And I think
that if they're going to do that, they would have
to be the combination there.

Speaker 4 (10:03):
You can't take out.

Speaker 3 (10:04):
One of the wings because they're not you know, they
don't want to take out Dylan and they're not gonna
take out Roger. They'll have to go into the centers
and again, like you see at Rockerberry out again.

Speaker 4 (10:13):
I don't know how well. I don't think it was
severe injury.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
It might be for a few weeks and so but yeah,
I'll go with the fallback center combination and the cape
well go back, goes back to second row, which means
maybe Tennis star Smith, you know, goes gets.

Speaker 4 (10:28):
Out, goes out of seventeen. That's how I would do
it as well. But it's a hard it's a it's
a hard it's a hard thing.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
But at the same time, it's a beautiful thing because
we've got all these players that you can put in
there and they're all doing they're all doing good jobs,
they're all doing great jobs. So you know, like it's hard,
and it's a wonderful thing to see the Warriors where
the depth that's coming through. You know, one one guy
gets out, one guy comes in and you know, fills
that gap and does really well as well. So that's
really good to see. It's not just like finding someone

just to fill the spot, and you know, because you've
got no one else to fill it. In the past
of least the year Warriors, you know, you've seen chance
at five and stuff because halves things like that. So anyway,
he answered your question, I agree with you to a
pickie four big chance until it would be.

Speaker 4 (11:10):
Would be ideal for me as well.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
Yeah, I mean there's an old saying, you know, you've
got to play your players on the field at the
same time as you can, and I think that's that's
what you do. I mean that was just seeing to
a picky at four back this season, you know, and
fist grade has obviously been playing bas cap but you
know them on the wing.

Speaker 1 (11:28):
But I was just a mate, Like every time he
got the ball, he looked, he looked dangerous he was.
He just looked angry. Two hundred and twenty three running maders.
He had a hit, a hand in a couple of
tries and has nice touches. I think he only had
one for sial triasis. He topped the game with the
leaving checkle breaks. You know, he's not a big guy,
so for someone like him, you know, he throws his

body around and and he's a slippery, slippery snake, it's
for sure.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
So I love from him. And yeah, it's no knock
on chance at all. I love chance, and Chance has
been probably one of the most consistent. That's not our
most consistent player this year.

Speaker 1 (12:04):
So uh yeah, he shouldn't see what happens when when
when chance has come back. We've got another probably three
or four weeks. I think of of to a book
for back.

Speaker 4 (12:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
Obviously. The other big, other big talking point was your
boy Tanner Boyd stepping up into the into the number
seven jersey.

Speaker 4 (12:22):
Yeah and.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
Yeah, looked pretty good with him at the helm. John
you might you might be onto Onto one of the
he liked what you saw.

Speaker 3 (12:32):
I did, And I think I'm not like Onto when
I think a lot of people, you know, thought that
I know that you were to Mardin and then again
love to mind Mardini so many times, but it's just
I think he was the player to feel that, you know,
the Boyd or their boyd being cringe again.

Speaker 4 (12:49):
But but yeah, no, I think he had a great game.
I didn't think. I didn't think he was.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
I wouldn't say it was a five star performance from Boyd,
but I thought it was. It was solid enough and
I saw enough to know that he is the guy
to take the Warriors forward in this campaign. Because look,
Luke Metcalf when he went down out of the season
lift a big get there he was. He was lighting
the world on fire, you know, and you know a

top of the Delian points, you know, before they went,
before the.

Speaker 4 (13:19):
Daily went behind closed doors.

Speaker 3 (13:21):
He was doing so well and and and.

Speaker 4 (13:25):
Yeah, no, it was it was, it was, it was.
It was hard.

Speaker 3 (13:27):
But you know, Town of boy is coming. He's got
a different style of game. He's in the technic players
like Luke Micalf. But Luke Metcalf, he when he had texts,
he texts. He texts like he hears the ball in
hand and tries to tech himself and goes through and
does really well there where kind of board is more
like a text where he texts the line and then
hits something up.

Speaker 4 (13:45):
For other players to do.

Speaker 3 (13:46):
I mean that doesn't mean that Luke Metcalf doesn't do
that as well, but Luke Metcalf has the ability to
hold the ball in then and get around them and
break those techles as well.

Speaker 4 (13:53):
And he where is he shone many times.

Speaker 3 (13:56):
I love the fact that Town of Boyd he goes
right into the defensive line and last minute is able
to draw them in in the last minute because it
looks like he's about to, you know, take.

Speaker 4 (14:04):
The tackle, but then he last minute draws them in
and passes late.

Speaker 3 (14:07):
And it's just awesome for the seat piece for the
Warriors at piece because it means it can create overlaps
and if he continues to perfit that, we're gonna score
a lot of tries in the center wing area, you know,
in that little area, because he's got the ability to
do that.

Speaker 4 (14:21):
So I loved it.

Speaker 3 (14:21):
I loved it so and he's great. His kicking is
great as well. I've got a great boot. We'd have
to worry about kicking because he's got the boot on
him goal kicking as well. He see it five from
six and he was five from six and yeah, so
like no, I think I think, you know, he is
that man to take the Warriors for and look and
just just I mean, I don't believe in jinxing this

sort of stuff, but if he ever went down, you
know you've got tomdon Mans and they can fill the
gap as well. So that's why I'm loving the death
of the Warriors. You know, you got someone like Tomadon
Mantsen who could do just as well. So I think
town of Boy does that guy to do it, because
I think he just got a better he can manage
the game well, we managed the game better.

Speaker 4 (15:00):
And also, no, you can't, you can't knock this off.

Speaker 3 (15:03):
He's gonna just got a really good boot, superior kicking game,
and you need it as well because I think chance,
so sorry, not chance, Harris sta Vida. He's been doing
really well late, but you know, I wouldn't say his
boot is the greatest.

Speaker 4 (15:17):
His kicker is the greatest. He's he can put.

Speaker 3 (15:19):
Up and unders up and stuff, but the long distance kicking,
that's not where you know, he's already shines. So I
think he needs someone that actually kicked you know, long
no long distance kicks and stuff, and I think that's weird.

Ten of Boy that does really well as well.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
So yeah, no, no, I'll give him definitely a solo pass,
and I think he'll only get better. I think he's
only going to get better.

Speaker 1 (15:39):
Yeah, really days, Yeah, I saw a lot, yeah, four
hundred kicking on the whole.

Speaker 2 (15:45):
He had had triassssed. Harrison had a tri assist as well. Harriste.
I was putting in a couple of grabbers and Tin
of Boy hit.

A couple of bombs, so they I thought they were
really really well as a peerage. Like, you know, they
sort of to just both know their role, and even
though only had one tries to each, I feel like
they probably deserved more than one try. You know a
lot of the tries were coming from stuff that they
were doing, but maybe a.

Couple of a couple of players back.

Speaker 1 (16:11):
So yeah, yeah, I really liked my sol from that house,
peering and providing your touch Wooden and what injuries. Hopefully
we'll see see plenty more of that from them.

You talked about Jamar and Madden before we've talked. We've
talked about his versatility. The last few weeks.

Speaker 1 (16:28):
He came off the off the beach and played played
centa for about forty probably forty five minutes after Roccoberia
went off. So yeah, I just wanted to say shout
out to him once again for showing off his versatility.

Speaker 2 (16:46):
I thought he actually did.

Speaker 1 (16:48):
A few weeks ago when Glen went off and he
was sort of playing a bit of wing, a bit
of Sceni looked a little bit lost, but maybe they've
just practiced a little bit more with him sort of
really really been a utility for the every bet position.

Speaker 2 (17:01):
But yeah, in the last two games he's played hooker,
half Beck, four Beck and Sintas So yeah, long may
long with that last, but soon just yeah, a Roco
beer as well.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
Like, I mean, it just feels like this is about
the fourth time he's been injured this season. Obviously no
no serious injuries, but I have still a bit of
talk around, you know, like about these injuries.

Speaker 4 (17:28):
Do you.

Speaker 1 (17:30):
Like he's still only about twenty four, so he's still young.
But if you were the Warriors management, would you be sort.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
Of chasing up a contract extinction after after this one's done,
or would you would you be looking at usphere just
purely on the on the injury sort of front for
him at the moment.

Speaker 4 (17:47):
That's a hard question.

Speaker 3 (17:48):
That's a really hard question because I mean, I can't
deny the guy's talent, but you know, he's just had
a bad run of injuries. You know, it happens, and
I mean he's just been unfortunate, you know, like you know,
will you know, will he ever get to play a
full game of any you know, a full game of
eighty minutes or footy without getting injured? It just seems
that like every time just something just seemed to get

you know, just to reaggravate something, you know, like for example,
the shoulder, and there was the same shoulder that the
hair surgery on, and you know, yeah, I feel I
feel sorry for the guy. And honestly, he said he's
so young as well, So I don't think.

Speaker 4 (18:23):
I don't think he's I think it's a bit of a.

Speaker 3 (18:28):
I don't think he's reader to give up the game
or anything like that or anything like that. But I
don't that's a hard question. I think I think that
I honestly think the Warriors will still have faith because
of his age that he can come.

Speaker 4 (18:40):
He can come.

Speaker 3 (18:40):
Well, you know, the injuries are part of the game.
Some people are a lot of people are injury prone,
Like you're not like wading him for example, you can
catch them prones. How many can catch that he had
over the years. But they still keep on bringing him,
you know, extending his contract and he's worth it.

Speaker 4 (18:54):
So I think, yeah, I think Rocker Berry is worth it.

Speaker 3 (18:56):
So I don't I don't think that they'll they'll you know,
I love to think good enough to go elsewhere.

Speaker 4 (19:02):
I don't think they will have to go elsewhere. He's
a clean class player, got many years ahead of them.
He needs to get the body right, just needs to
get the body right.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
Yeah, yeah, hopefully he can't. It just sort of reminded
her if you remember of being Henry you know, you know,
and he was a real youang talent. He's around for
probably three or four seasons, but just similar to Rockabery,
he just seemed like, you know, every pretty much you'd
be seeking game he was, he was getting injured. I
think the thing we've been here in Henry is that
his injuries were a bit more serious. He had some

pretty serious on the injuries and that sort of thing. Yeah,
I mean, I mean, I love Rockabera and when he
when he's on, but it's just it hasn't helped the Yeah,
they sort of outside back situation this year, that's for sure.
So yeah, do you think that was the best spy
and performance of saying from from the Warriors? He says,

(19:55):
And obviously we'll talked about to Picky, You've talked about
HARRISA Bell and boy, and I thought why they're hit
a great game. He looked sort of as menacing beast.

Speaker 1 (20:04):
Do you think that's sort of a part of me
thinks it's kind of like the most complete spot like
in fo not quite fall less but not far. I've
been fast by performance for the season. How would you
feel about it?

Speaker 2 (20:17):
Do you do you think? Do you agree with it?
Or do you think that maybe you know, you'd rather
some of the other guys there.

Speaker 4 (20:24):
Yeah, no, I mean I didn't think.

Speaker 3 (20:25):
I mean, look, they played, they played well, but I
didn't think I said, as I said before, I don't
think they know. I didn't think I said this about
tying a boy, but as a team of the whole,
I didn't think of the bierst that performance. It was
a very comfortable win in the end. And you know,
and I think that they would have to go up
a level to play against the lights of the Storm,
the Bulldogs and the Raiders, you know, Panthers. Even I

think is you know, starting their late surgeons and the
competition stuff. So I think they will have to step
up a bit. Then that's just my honest opinion. But
I was gonna talk about, you know, like a flawless
spine performance. I would have seen the game against the
Sharks really demolished them the most. They would have been
my fallest spine performance because they were they were terrific

on them. The whole team was terrific on their night,
and like I said, they were good. They were good
against the Tigers. Yes, but I just think that, Yeah,
I think I wouldn't say it was flawless, but good.

Speaker 4 (21:21):
But yeah, not my not my overall best game from
the Spine this season.

Speaker 1 (21:27):
Yeah, I'm going to say it was. Honestly, I just
I loved everything that they were all doing. They just
played the role really well. I think in the in
the Sharks game, you know, you forget that I first
half was only twelve teen and we were really.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
Up against him in the first half.

Speaker 1 (21:43):
I mean, you know, we sort of found out and
a few eks after that maybe the Sharks skills we
actually thought they.

Speaker 2 (21:48):
Were as well. But yeah, I just I love what
I saw.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
From from from and we've obviously talked about the three
of them, but yeah, I think why League as well.
He was really mean sitting around the right, sort of
forced a few penalties and was catching some of.

Speaker 2 (22:02):
The Tigers swards.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
Sort of There's one at one moment where like he
just kind of like ran towards the guy and he
just couldn't. They won't put him the health and kind
of you know, almost just like snick the ball over teams.
It's just a silly penally for from him. But we'll
we'll take it on our back. I think it's a
great platform to for them to start from. And yeah,

i'd love to see, love to see.

Speaker 3 (22:28):
I just I just feel I just feel that, you know,
I feel it with the Sharks game though, you know
we're talking about the tax game.

Speaker 4 (22:33):
Is that I feel like it was a harder team
to play though.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
That's what I mean, you know, you know, I think
that they were at the time, the Sharks were doing
doing ok in the competition at the time. I'm not
sure where they are right now because I think they
were just outside the top eight at the ending of
this rounds.

Speaker 4 (22:50):
I don't know where they're at now, but I think
it was a harder team.

Speaker 3 (22:55):
So I think there was more if it put it in this,
