Speaker 1 (00:21):
Hey, everyone, welcome to another episode of Couch Warriors, and
what a show we have for you tonight. The Warriors
are running hot five from five after a big win,
well not really that big, over the Dolphins on some
in some cool stadium on the weekend. I'm Jonlan Lasron, Oh,
John Lazaron, and I'm join by my co host Richard,
the Bandmaga conductor Leddy Bro. How good are the Warriors
(00:42):
going at the moment?
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Shoo? How good? Back? Yeah, no, there, they're absolutely flying
five in a row. It's a great time to be
a Warriors fan. I think it's about the only about
the fifth or sixth time that the Warriors have won
five straight, so it's a pretty pretty impressive considering the
Andreuris have had and sort of the expectations on the season.
But no, never in doubt for me, you know, never
in doubt. You know, we known all the way to Sydney.
(01:05):
I've already put my flats.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
Yeah yeah, he keep saying, Yeah, I'm so excited that
I'm getting I can't even pronounce my name right on
the show. Yeah, I'll just say again, John laz or Ron, sorry,
that's all right, but yeah, no, you're right mate five
from five and it was just a to be honest,
it was just all amazing round of rag Bley all round,
to be honest. Watched a few games, not just the
(01:28):
Warriors game, and there were pretty some some clippangers in there.
So it's just, I guess in summary, is just a
really a testament to what the NFL producing at the
moment in terms of the competition. It's just an awesome
spectacle to watch, really entertaining and keeps you on your feet.
I mean, I mean Warriors for example, with their membership packages,
they're gonna probably have to offer CPR on courses the
(01:50):
way they're going at the moment. They're keeping the what
they're doing to our fans. But yeah, no, it was
a great game to watch, great game to watch. But well,
what are some some takes that you hear from that
game that you know that really really just stood out
for you? Because for me this is a bit of
a different game. But what are your takes on this game?
Speaker 2 (02:07):
To be honest, if you like even another the final minutes.
I was never too worried, you know, like I think
I think we always sort of looked like it didn't
help that we were a player down and we sort
of lit in those late tries, but there's seventy minutes
that we did play. I thought it was sensational. They
looked they looked really good defensively, just looked tight against
a Dolphins team that had been one of the better
(02:28):
checking teams in the comp. I reckon, you know, like,
this is a Dolphins team that put forty points on
Melbourne only about you know, four or five weeks ago,
and they've been they've been scoring some some Hayer points
each year. So to hold them off for seventy minutes,
I thought was an incredible effort. Obviously, the final two
minutes we still can't quite get that perfect, that perfect
(02:50):
eighty minute performance. But I think I was a bit
less just watching that game and the Dolphins come back
there than I had been the last games in particular.
So obviously, I mean, we'll just we'll just say it
right now, you know, like obviously, like the inner Roal
fans don't know what they're saying. There's no way that
Roger Hicks was a was knock on. It definitely went back,
(03:12):
no question and no question in my mind. So now
we're going to take those calls as they come. You know,
like it was a it wasn't a great call from
from the from the inn. I can't remember the who
the riff was, but yeah, you're got to feel for
Dolphins fans in no situations because it was pretty clear
we're live watching it. I was like, well, we looked,
but dodging and the use of the replay that all
(03:33):
the year differently, but you got to take the chances,
and we did and we went in scored from one
of the great sort of solo pieces of work we've
seen from the Warriors this year with Luke Metcalfe was
a little chip and Chase and the regather for Cape Well,
so but no on the whole, Like you know, you
look at that team and struggled to find someone that
(03:54):
I said didn't never didn't play well, you know, like
it was great to see if she Harris back, I
thought he was really really was one of the best
games we've seen them play for the Warriors, if not
their best. I thought the usual suspects was out doing
their things, but there was a couple of guys who
I thought played some of the best games of the season. Look,
Cape Well was really good and Pompey Toos are both
those centers and definitely, you know, there's been a lot
(04:18):
of sort of what concerned with the Warriors sort of
right edge attack, but defensively, sorry, but I looked a
lot more solid this year this week. So they did
still sort of leading a try with you know, the
hammer got that try lading the game. But no, plenty
plenty to like about that game. I really really just
(04:39):
wasn't as stressful as the last few weeks, and I
appreciated that.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
Yeah, yeah, no, I mean I mean, is your name
Casey Casey Bedger as it or something? Well, because you know,
if you if you if you saw that as a
knock back, because yeah, there was definitely a blatant, blatant
knock on. Like like you said, it was probably the
worst of one of the worst I've seen, cause I've
seen and I know it's against the Warriors, but even
if you, if you're a true rugby league fan, you
(05:04):
just know every day of the week that it was
a big knock on. I mean, even Roger when he
took the ball, you can see him in the replays,
He's just like, ah, like you just realized he stuffed
up and it should have actually been it should have
been a penalty to the Dolphins for a nun off side,
but hey, yeah, but accidentally offside, but hey, you gotta
play the whistle, right, So that's what they did. And
(05:25):
it was the try though, was like you said, it
was an amazing try, that sort of little little kick
from Metcalf. He gathered it back Kate Well who had
a blinder like you were saying. Yeah, so totally agree,
and I totally agree with what you're saying about. This
game was less stressful than the other games and previously.
And you know, for the last four or five weeks
when the Warriors have been winning, they've been winning by
(05:46):
tight scores, you know, but then you know what one point,
you know, two points, et cetera. This one was only
four points, so it doesn't make it a big difference.
But the difference was in this game is I thought
we were in total control. The other games were games
are two halves where you know, we Warriors would dominate
the first half you could see that they're dominated, but
then in the second half the momentum swung towards the opposition.
(06:08):
And then not only that, we lost our way, we
just lost our way in attack. The only thing that
kept us going was our defense. Our defense has won
us a lot of games this year, and but this
this time though, in this game, despite the fact that
they scored those tries at the end because we're down
to twelve men, I thought we were still in control.
And I thought the speed of the game was awesome.
(06:29):
That was with the tempo of the game, the Warriors
were playing at a fast pace, the speed of the ruck,
everything was just going at a fast pace. And I'm
surprised they didn't get more tries on. But I think
honestly on the back of their defense, that's what won
them the game and has won them the previous games
because that that defense. I mean, how many six agains
did the Dolphins get down our end? How many six
(06:50):
agains the penals did they get down there in there?
They couldn't they couldn't convert those those opportunities into points.
And I just think that, you know, the Warriors obviously
year weren't really known if we warrior for the defense
and all for attack. But right now I think our
defense is solid, and you know, it's it's taking us places,
and it's right now it's taking us the second place
outright on the letter. So just two points behind the
(07:11):
ball dog. So yeah, no, I agree, totally agree with
you that you know, it was less stressful because you
could just see that the Warriors just hit the sunder
control they were And I think Web said the same
thing in this post match press conference. He said, you know,
I was wasn't as stressed in this game because you
could just see that there's there's knew what they were doing.
They knew what they were doing, so you could totally
see that in the bodie language and everything. So awesome game,
(07:34):
awesome game from the Warriors. And again, I think the
last time they won five in a row was in
twenty eighteen. I mentioned it in a video and someone
came back commentatings with the comments already saying twenty eighteen
was the last time the Warriors won five in a row,
So it.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
Was just about the season. I remember I was in
America at the time and I was skinning up in
the middle of night to follow the follow the games.
And yeah, there was some big talk going that year
as well. I remember remember that year we were I
think it was Joey Harris's first year at the club,
and I was like, this is just this is a
great time to be a Warriors fan. But we did
we know what happened then, you know, they fizzled off
and they ended up finishing eighth and lost to the
(08:10):
Penriff and that in the first game absolutely smoked. So yeah,
they'll be away that they have to keep it up.
But yeah, I mean seven and two after what is it,
eleven rounds, so I didn't to know, was it? Yeah, yeah,
aid in two now after after eleven rounds. If you
told me that the start of the season, I would
(08:30):
to see you were smoking too much crack, mate. So yeah,
I'm loving this and I'm loving this Warriors team looking
great and yeah the defensive stuff are both for now
we're not used to that. So long matte last.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Yeah bro too, right, So well, what's really impressed me
about you know, these wins though, is that they've they've
been you're doing it on you know, on our position
of soil. They've been doing it, you know, across the
ditch where I think they've been away from home in
the last six and six rounds five five five rounds
out of the last six they've been away from home.
You know, that's that's a long time to be away
(09:05):
from your families and stuff, but they're they're still they've
still got the machine roll and the machines continue to roll,
So that is it's really really impressive to see how
they're doing it and how they're going about it. And
the young guns in there as well, halaesima et cetera,
bal manga. They're just they're just doing they're showing that
they know they're their first graders, that they deserve to
be there. So it's really awesome to see. But let
me ask you a question about our wingers. We've had
(09:27):
a outside back problem into when I say problem, the
injury problem for a while now, and finally we get
some some players back. D w Z and r t
s had come back. You know, two players who are
you know, will make you most of the starting starting
sides any day of the week. But do you think
(09:47):
that maybe it would have been good to see them
have some time in reserve grade before they came in.
I know that they might not be the up, we
might not have that option because of the injury list,
but you know, you've got a Roger coming into a
picky you know, was out of the game completely and
he's been in there for a while now. And he's
done a pretty good job. What do you what do
(10:09):
you think about d w Z and Artis's performance so far?
Well said one game, the WZ two. So what do
you think of their performances so far?
Speaker 2 (10:17):
Yeah, I mean I think DWZ in particular, like he's
had two games and he's looked sort of a shell
of the player that we know he is, you know,
and it probably is simply just taken a while to
get back into it. But I sort of mention him before,
you know, it would be hard to say when he
had a bad game, I think he'd be probably wasn't
a bad game, but he'd be as close to sort
(10:37):
of having a below par games as we saw from anyone. Roger.
I think Rodger locked all right, Like Roger looked hungry,
and I mean I was pretty disappointed to see too.
But he, you know, because he hasn't really done much wrong,
is he, you know, like he steps up every time
he gets he gets a chance, and and he's you know,
playing been playing in a position which I suppose when
(10:58):
you've got your dis guys, play them. But I still
think that, and annoyingly I thought Kate pos shouldn't have
been there. But he actually had a really good game,
so you know, he should have obviously been in the team.
But I would have thought he'd played a second row
and Roger would have moved to center or even you know,
a chance to center and until Peticular back. But it
(11:19):
wasn't to be, so, I mean, I did not really
get dropped. Probably I wouldn't want them to get dropped
because they are you know, they are the two guys
that we want to have their their best options. But yeah,
I think Wa easily his neck in particular. I'm hoping
to see a bit more from him last week this
(11:40):
week because yeah, he's been pretty underwhelming in those two
games so far.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
Yeah, you're right, and I think he'll probably be the
first one to admit that as well. I think he
has you know, he's I think his words his words
were I'm a little bit rusty, and you can see that.
But in previous games as well, though he has a
agency to sort of come off as winger but you
know when it comes to in defense, yea, and yeah,
and not trusting his inside man to do the job.
(12:07):
And his inside man was was Cape well and he
had a blinder head, you know, fun with to defend
against and he played him how we know, how good
fun with us. So I thought Kate Will did a
great job there. But he still has a tendency, a
natural tendency which means he's not doing it purposely, just
doing it naturally. Tends to come in a bit which
he can expose that sort of left this wrote there.
(12:28):
There is a big gap there sometimes and that's where
a lot of teams have scored against us. So I
think he needs to work on that. I know it's
not easy just to take it a natural instant gutio
game where years go in out of the game so quickly,
but that's where we've been exposed a bit. That's that's
my opinion. I think a lot of people actually see
that as well. I've seen a lot of comments on
social media and just from sports analysis as well that
(12:48):
you know, he tends to come off as wing a bit,
so that's something he could probably you know, try and improve.
But he is a bit rusty. But you know, I
have had the faith that he's gonna you know, he'll
come back and he'll start doing his stuff that we
know can do in the same with our teas. You
know that tea is one game. Can't can't really chriticalism
too much because it's just one game. But yeah, well
(13:09):
with the wait and see, I.
Speaker 2 (13:10):
Think I mean I thought that she looked pretty, you know,
like he obviously had that will lettill knock on or
not knock on, however you saw it. But I think
he looked really hungry, you know, like I think he
ran for team high hun and two meters and I
even Dallan. I think I think I was looking at
the techic he had about fifteen or sixteen tackles, which
is pretty messive for a for a winger for an
(13:31):
outside back. So they both kind of look happy to
be there. But I just need to find their their
spots and and once we sort of get some of
these other guys back and we actually know what our
best backlineers, it'd interesting to see because you know, you've
obviously got Rocker Beery and Ali a Tower to come back.
You know, do they both slod in for you, John
or yeah? I think I mean Pompey's hasn't been doing
(13:53):
much wrong. Do you just kind of fluck them out
of the back door? And when those two foot or
how was your your dream set a peering.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
Well that's a good question. It's a really good question
because when Ali comes back and in Rocky Beery, you know, no,
a few weeks ago, those two would have been like
no instant you know, instant picks for your full your
starting side. But like you just said, you hit it.
You said it correctly, right there, Pompey, he's done hasn't
(14:22):
done much wrong. He's actually he's actually been playing pretty well,
you know on the tech and of defense. He's actually
doing he's not doing a bad job, Like how can
you just swap him out just you know, if he's
doing a great job. That's the same thing with a
pickie doing a decent top. But yeah, he gets he
gets pought out because the bigger name comes in and
we all, we all knew that was going to happen.
(14:43):
We just thought that maybe different positional changes for this
particular game, but didn't happen. But I know, so again
answered to your question, I would love to see Pumpy stay.
I think it'll have to be Berry And are you
having a bit of a bit of a battle to
see who gets out in this spot? Because I thought
they think that Pumpy sort of nailed one of them
down for now anyway. You can't. You can't, you can't.
(15:05):
You can't take that off him. He's done such a
good job, you can't take that off him.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
Yeah, I agree, but yeah, I probably have him in Latte.
I think I think Berry just hasn't quite been able
to and you know, it might still be there, and
he's had a bit of a disrupt a very disrupted
start to season. But I mean the way Letel has
been playing, I thought he's been brilliant. And yea, Pumpy's
just weekend week here. Just he does his job well
and and you know, those areas that we've just seen
(15:31):
in this game seem to have sort of disappeared slowly.
So I'd be happy to see him there.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
Yeah, yeah, no, no, he I mean he's to have
a lot of areas in his game. That's why there
were a lot of Pumpy haters out there. But he's
he's just gone from strength to strength to strength, and
it's good to see him not you know, just going
to a show after all that criticism of his game,
you know, a season or til ago. But he's just
he's gone. He's a little stronger every game and he's
he deserves to be there. So like I said, maybe
(15:56):
three or four weeks ago, I would have said, you know,
Australian Rockerberry and Ali leta straight back in. But now
I'm actually thinking pump phc deserves the spot, so that
those two would have to fight out for the other
center spot in my in my opinion, but also on
this game, we had a debut for tennis. Dollar Smith
(16:17):
came in the front row. I didn't. I just didn't
expect that. There were rumors that he might play, but
I honestly did not expect it that he would come on.
I thought that, you know, as we mentioned last week,
you know New yorkorder would come into the into the
front row, great debu, great daoboo, and looks like he'll
probably have to come on again and put on the
(16:37):
jersey again because James Fisher Harris, he's copped a one
match suspension and after that sort of shoulder charge, I
heard a lot. I heard a lot of people talking
about it, saying, oh, the Dolphins player right into the ball,
but look, look, lit'tle look that good and slow mo especially,
it didn't look that good in my opinion. But yeah,
so first before we go into tenness, Dollar Smith, what
(16:57):
did you think about that, James Fisher, Harris or.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
Yeah. I mean it's one of those ones where, yeah,
I don't think there was too there was nothing in that,
you know, and the Dolphins players sort of was was
was falling down, but he got to Yeah, he probably
probably did have seen off. I'm surprised he got to
(17:23):
being for it, to be honest. But you know, like
I think we see a lot worse weak in wak
out when people get away with that.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
Is a big one.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, but the one on the other wives.
You know, like there's been a few instances recently where
and I mean I think you know, a couple of weeks,
you know, when they were doing their big crack down,
I would have speak to that, but I feel like
they've sort of the they vased off of that and
there's been a bit more sense about it. But I mean, judge,
going by the rules, they probably have to do what
they've got to do here. But yeah, yeah, it's one
(17:57):
of those ones man, we're like, yeah, I understand that
the rules are the air, but also like you sort
of watched that replay and full speed, you know, when
they started down, it just looks worse and worse and Yeah, yeah,
that's sort of what they're doing, and that's what there,
the sort of bunker is looking at. They were looking
at the slow down versions, like just playing on full
speed and actually see what happened, you know, like you'll
(18:18):
see the Dolphins guy going down. But that's what it was.
So yeah, on tennis, Ouse smuff he's actually he went
to my old high school, good St. St. Bede's College alumni,
so it was one of one of my proudest moments
of my life hearing the injury. Voss say sat Bed's college,
that's for sure. But yeah, no, I thought he was great. Yeah,
he really looked did not look out of place at all.
(18:39):
And I think Bunty he might be a little bit
worried because you know that he's been sort of playing
that extra middle role off the bench. But from what
we saw from tennis South smuff Man, he looks he
looks more than comfortable being there. You know. I think
it came on and I felt like he got you know,
he did. He was everywhere for the first sort of
(18:59):
cup minutes, you know, like a couple of head apps,
a couple of tackles. So yeah, and I really liked
what I saw there.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
Yeah, I did definitely cross stat from the bench, definitely
brought the energy from the bench. So it was good,
especially at a time where you know, we are you know,
I don't know if you remember what time he came on,
but it was the right time and he just you know,
didn't take some energy in there and keep us going
as well, you know, without defensive effort there. So yeah, no,
we'll said, well said, here's some steps for us, do you.
Speaker 2 (19:29):
Sorry? I do where I was at? Yeah, yeah, So
twenty five minutes, six carries, fifty meters, twenty one tackles,
so I think that's yeah, I mean, you think about
some of those games when when Bunty's playing and you know,
like he might get ten fifteen minutes and you know,
touch the ball two times and do five tackles, So
(19:49):
that's a that's a really busy twenty five minutes, I reagon.
So if he can, yeah, come off the bench each
week and well he probably went each week once everyone's
for once, you know, like some forwards as well, and
she Harris's playing. I'm not sure we're there as a
spot for him and the team this year, but he'll
be a very well deserved you know, whenever he gets
(20:12):
a shot, it'll be very well deserved. I'm sure we
definitely not the last we'll see him this this season.
I think he's he'd be close to sort of next
Geb off the ranks we can in the middle.
Speaker 1 (20:21):
Yeah yeah, no, true true that well, we're going to
have a problem with the front rolls now that Mitch
Bunnett has been selective for as expected for the new
South Wales set of origin side. But a good thing
about this time is that he's starting and we'll talk
more about that. But congratulations to miss Bunnett. I totally
thought that he would make the side and starting side
this year. It really deserves that. He's had a stellar
season so far, especially you know, stepping up with his
(20:43):
leadership as well. But also we've done Swisher Harris out.
We're going to two leading front rollers out of the game,
so some other people have got to stand up and
we'll stand up and for me, the only ones available
at the moment in New Curne tennys Doll Smith. I'm
not sure Bunty comes back next week. I'm not sure
if he's back next week or he's still out injured.
(21:03):
But he's still got tom Onley there as well, and
you've got Jackson Ford. I think he'll come back after
his concussion standdown. So I still have even though our
two front front line you know, front rowers won't be there,
I still have faith that we're gonna still do a
good job. Not too concerned, but I'm not sure. I'm
not sure who where he's thinking he'll put on there,
(21:25):
And yeah, it depends also on things like people like
Bunty as well. I don't nobody's back.
Speaker 2 (21:30):
He's just speaking back round twelve. So this week any
Jackson Ford was just still one week concussion stand down,
so yeah, I just speak that both of them would
be fast. Yeah, I don't know. I think he'd probably
be starting yeah Ford and Bunty maybe and you know,
just Bunty for the experience. Maybe get Tennis to out
(21:52):
Smiff off the bench.
Speaker 1 (21:55):
With honest, honestly reckon, your Cly will be put into
the front road because and starting with Jackson Ford and
TWN stars Smith will be off the beach. I really
reckon that's what's going to happen. Because we're blessed in
abundance when it comes to second rollers, you know, with
you know and stuff you got Bommong, we can come
on as well. You've also got Jacob Laban as well,
so we're all right in the department, you know. So
(22:16):
I reckon that's why that you know, you could sacrifice
new curity to the front row. I reckon, that's what's
going to happen. But you know, I thought all things
were going to happen with this game. And yeah, the
you know talk Picky staying there Roger descended, didn't happen.
But no, as long as they keep winning, I'm very happy.
I'm very happy. So before we move on to the
(22:37):
wild ems, mate, anything more you want to say about
this game? He's the Dolphins?
Speaker 3 (22:41):
Nah?
Speaker 2 (22:42):
No, just a heyeh good. Good to see the boys
get a get another win on the road. Three three
three straight games in Australia. They haven't played him out
smart for over months now. So yeah, to do to
be able to run like this, and you know, to
do it away from home, which is obviously normally not
the way the Warriors keep their wins and coming into
(23:03):
Origin period where it's usually this is the period where
we sort of Warriors fans sort of hope bubbles up.
So just they can just keep giving those two points
that will make me a very happy boy.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
Yep, for sure, for sure. Well, before we get into
your Sebia made with the wally Ms. Have sport Nation
have they? Have they stolen your segment? Mate, Because today
I saw on social media I sent sent the missage
to you, they said they've got their own walms. And
this is the first time I see a lot of
Sports Nations, you know, post and stuff. That's the first
time I've ever seen this. I haven't gone and done
(23:38):
a little research and trying to find out where I
just I just saw it, and I was just like,
wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute, you dogs,
you dogs, have you taken our segment? You know, we've
got proof, We've got proof that we started this two
seasons ago. So yeah, I don't know what's going on there,
but Sports Nation you're listening to you dogs?
Speaker 2 (23:55):
Yeah, I know it's a sports snastion in the old
it seems.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
Yeah, it is, Yeah, to be honest. The funny thing is,
I actually know a few people. I know a few
of the guys off there. I know a few the
gymernalists on there. But I won't miss them about it.
I won't miss them about.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
It, But yeah, I was, I was, I was, Yeah,
I don't know, what are the chances I suppose it's
not that great. I think I thought the name was
really I thought the name was very creative. But it's
probably not that creative, really, is it.
Speaker 1 (24:19):
So I was gonna say the same thing. I'm gonna
say the same thing, like anyone could really think about it.
If you're if you're going to do a points rating
system where our players, it's easy just to think it's
easy to do there. So that's still evidence, is there
that we started this and our Sports Nation have got it.
New dogs dogs Anyway.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
If there's any your lawyers out there from the experience
and copyright, get in touch, because yeah, we've got a
bit of a bone to pick with Sports Nation and
the boys there. They Yeah, I did see that they
had they done the done there Wally while I list,
I think they had Aaron Clark at the top of
the list. So good luck to have them for rest
(24:59):
the season. But yeah, for those who don't know, we've
got our waliums. So we give you out three two
one points every week for the previous Warriors game. And
I sorry I jotted down the things before but a
least a piece of paper out and my office and
I had to come inside to get a bit of
Wi Fi. But your Aaron Clacks and the elite for
us with twinty I think it was Luke Metcalffe on seventeen,
(25:24):
Halla Seemas on fourteen and Wadagan's on thirteen. So yeah,
plenty and obviously if you allude to earlier, Luke Meetcalf
leading the whole delims. He got six six points in
the weekend, which I was a little bit surprised about.
And you'll probably hear soon what my my take on
the Walliums for last week. So do you want to
start us off? John, don't mean to rub into it.
Speaker 1 (25:44):
Oh you're open to it, mate, You always do. You
always have this. You're a bit of well prepared than
me when it comes to the Waliams. But yeah, I've
got my three two one. But yeah, let's that with
you lately.
Speaker 2 (25:54):
As Yeah, so actually I bought a few new new names.
I think the last few weeks it's been a lot
of meat up, a lot of you and a lot
of hell Seema, a lot of Aaron Clark. But I've
got Kirk Cape for three this week. I thought, yeah,
eighty eighty minutes and center. I thought defensively and particularly
he was amazing. But he yes called Detroit, which was
(26:14):
a great bit of support, playoff off Metcalf, and yeah,
I just thought what he brought his team defensively, the
effort he could see when he's called de Troy, the
determination in his face, he looks, looks pumped and I'm
not gonna lie. I was pretty surprised to see him
not make the Queensland team, you know, especially with a
few injuries here and there happneing. Yeah, I thought they
might have found a spot for him, but apparently not.
(26:35):
So he got my three. My two goes to the man.
We've both shared that today already. But Ed and Pompey,
I thought, yeah, just a fantastic game from him. Eight
runs eighty nine, made his six tackle bus and he
made that mess a break that you know, like a
few of the tackle breaks come from there. But yeah,
I thought he just in the centers are sort of
(26:57):
you know that it's been some gaps in those and
those spots in the centers and opposition. The tech's been
sort of making the most of it last few weeks.
But the same this week Pompey and Cake Bold did
really well. So it's my three and two and one
goes to no Coore, who another player who I thought
had one of his better games and the Warriors usually
(27:19):
for a very long time, it's called that try and
it was just it was on the back of just
some really that's what he's there for, you know, like
when he when he runs the boys so good. Often
we'll see him you get to that position, but maybe
drop the ball. So it was awesome to see him
catch it and barge over. He had twelve runs one
hundred and four meters and twenty five tackles. So yeah,
a bit of a bit of a different looking three
(27:41):
to one for me this week, which is which is
great to see. And it's a sign that these guys
around the park who are all contributing to the team.
Speaker 1 (27:49):
Yeah, well said mate, and I've got some of well
my number one, my number one spot here cook capwell
three points, get him three points as well. I just
as I mentioned before earlier when we're reviewing the game,
he just it was just a stellar effort. I mean,
you know, he's he's not on the younger side of things,
(28:09):
but you know, and he's not. He hasn't got the
same pace as he used to, but he did. I
thought he did a great job on attack and defensively that,
you know, to finish off that Luke metcals with a
masterclass where you know, the little that little rubber and
collected in puzzles of cake. Well, for him to be
there as well, though, you know, to be there as
the supporting player, it was just awesome. Then his defense,
he kept hum with, he kept them at bay So
(28:33):
I keep why am I getting names? My tongue twisted
this week?
Speaker 2 (28:36):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (28:38):
Yes, yes, I said fun with Herbie, yeah herb Me
fine with ya? No, yeah, So he keep him at Baine.
He's a dangerous player. He is such a dangerous player,
but to keep him in check was an amazing effort,
and I thought that was for me. It stood out
(28:59):
because teams tend to attack our left edge, so you know,
our right you know, with you know, with him there
and Dellen there, so they tend to take that aside,
so our right, our writing, Sorry, they're lifted. So so
I just thought, yeah, three points, well, deserve the Kurk
cake well. And I actually thought that this performance would
have actually got him over the line for State of
Origin now as especially as a utility where he can
(29:23):
play center or in the second row. So why wouldn't
you have someone And also the experience he's got, why
wouldn't he be there? But as soon as I heard
last night there were some messages where Miss Barnett stayed back,
didn't didn't travel back to New Zealand with the Warriors.
He stayed back obviously for obvious reasons. Kate Will did
travel back. So that's when I thought, Okay, here's I
(29:44):
made the squad. Here's I made the squad. So but
he well deserved three points. Miss Barnett gets my two.
I just thought again, leadership and just his performance, rock
solid performance taking the ball up, the hit ups he did.
Don't let the stands in front of me right now,
but to delarriffic from Mitch Bennett, and he goes into
Origin with a lot of confidence. You know, he's a
(30:08):
is a year wiser and I just think he's made
for Origin. And I just think that what he's doing
on the field for the Warriors, and the reason why
he's been picked for Origin is because of what he's
doing on the field for the Warriors. So long way
they continue as well, And I was trying to think
who for one point, and I had Pompy. I thought
Pompey as well, But then I'm just gonna go to
(30:30):
Aaron Clark because I just thought just every time we
got the ball and just to see how we just
to see how he just runs the ball and hits
it up and gains all those post contact meters. Yeah,
it's brilliant Aaron Clark. So Ira Clark is my one point.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
That's fair a right that It's funny that you know,
Metcalf got six points in the Deli EAMs but didn't
get one point with us, So I think from looking
at the Sports Nation ones, actually they none of them
gave him to Metcalf as well, so it just shows
that they're after the fair she plays and and you
know they try that he see that for Kate well
was incredible, but I think apart from that, he had
(31:05):
a bit of a bit of a quiet game. So
but just yeah, shout out to the whole team. Just
still contributing and having a good time.
Speaker 1 (31:14):
Yeah, exactly. All right, Well that's the one of the ends.
Let's move on to state of origin, all right, So
last year we had two Warriors playing Origin Mitch Bynette
as we just mentioned for New South Wales Cook Kate
Well for Queensland not to be this year or not
to be this game sorry Origin one. They usually pick
up a game by game. So what have you seen
(31:35):
the New South Wales side?
Speaker 2 (31:38):
Yeah? Not what I would have done, to be honest. Yeah,
and it seems pretty classic New South Wales. The last
few years. They just I think they've almost they're too
sport for the talent. They just never quite seem to
get it right. You know. I think they've made a
mistake not picking to Disco. I think you know, he's
been there, done that. He's still got plenty left in
(31:59):
his tent seen it the last two years. And Edwards
has been injured and when he has played hasn't really
done much for the Panthers. You know, the Panthers has
been struggling. So I thought that was a bit of
a bizarre selection. I mean, watching I was quite I
thought maybe they might go with like takto all out
(32:21):
and maybe put Ja Boy which in there always been injured. Similarly,
he hasn't hasn't had a chance to really shine this season.
There's no doubt about his talent. But when you've got
someone like a boy but who himself hasn't been playing great,
but maybe he seems to alway step up for origin.
So I thought there could have been something different happening
there in the house. I don't mind seeing Moses and
(32:42):
Cleary together be interested. I just hope that Moses gets
sort of free reign to to run the ball and
do his thing. And then wait, Egan, what is he
gonna do? Bro Honestly, you know, you've you've you've seen
that a couple of times. What does he have to do?
And it just sinds bizarre. I mean, he's the best
best hooker in the competition. I see it last week
(33:02):
and I'll say it again. Robson's just piece hasn't done,
you know, like and I know that he's more of
a sort of defensive hooker. And and but it's a
new coach. You'd think there's no no excuse why you
have to go for the you know, pack, the same
team as last year. But but Laurie Daily has come
in and we've seen Lauriy Daily in this role recently,
(33:24):
you know, and and similar sort of things happened. There
was a lot of a lot of picking on you
know who, what people did last year as opposed to
sort of the form team. So yeah, I mean there's
a lot of good players there too, amazing and the
one that mess out very surprised to see that, you know,
And there's obviously a bit of probably didn't do himself
(33:45):
any favors the way he's reacted since since been told
he probably wouldn't be there. But then when it came
out for the Tigers last night and had an absolutely
huge game and sort of proved what he could do.
So yeah, I just feel like, yeah, i'd have a
mirror over the las of probably you know, Mexican. Obviously
I can't, can't deny I sort of paint Haass and
(34:06):
mtch Bunny starting there. But yeah, I don't mind the team.
But as I said, there's a few I had had
my my question marks about it. Bro.
Speaker 1 (34:17):
Yeah, no, I'm with you on this one. When I
saw the side, I was very I was very confused
because I mean he's obviously gone with a lot of
incumbents here. Yeah, you know, I actually thought he would
go on form and Tedesco is by far the informed fullback,
you know, New South Wales fullback and but obviously he's
gone with he's gone with the you know, the incumbent
(34:38):
fullback who hasn't actually been doing that. He isn't. He
hasn't playing the best footing, you know, and it shows
the side, the way they're playing. But you see, if
they're going to pick incumbents, then why isn't you know,
Joan Loy there, you know, why isn't he there as well?
Because they picked they picked Zach Lomex for example, And
Zach Lomax is an amazing player, don't get me wrong,
but he's only had like one or two games back
(35:01):
and they've just shot, you know, thrown them straight back
into origin and it.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
Was pretty it was pretty good on Friday night though.
Speaker 1 (35:07):
He was he was But you know what I'm saying, then, Brian,
has he has he come back yet? No?
Speaker 2 (35:12):
I don't think so. I think maybe no, maybe he
played no, yeah, one game back here, one game back yeah.
Speaker 1 (35:18):
And had to buy and they had to buy so basically,
you know, one game back and he's already been you know,
thustered straight in there. So that's just on that solection
you can just see. I'm Brian to is an amazing player.
But just on that selection you can just see it's
like the incumbent, so you can understand why they put
they'll put Nathan Cleary in there. It's just amazing Nathan
(35:39):
clear is you understand that, and you can understand much
Moses getting there not a head of dream lawyer because
it's Moses. You know, he had a great series last year,
but so droam laway, So it's it's a bit.
Speaker 2 (35:50):
Yeah, always dangerous playing to half, you know, playing two
half bets together. So it's just I hope they can
gel together. And I mean Moses is an amazing right game.
So yeah, as I said before, I think they just
need to let him, give him the freedom to to
do his saying thing there.
Speaker 1 (36:07):
Yeah, and when it comes to okay, yes waiting. You
know loved I have loved him to see him, you know,
have a shot at Origin. But if you were going
to pick between I mean we we we've mentioned it
before that you know he probably won't get a looking.
You know, he probably won't get a looking. But if
you were going to pick between Robinson and corros So,
I probably would have picked Crosso just because he's probably
got a better at taking game than Robson. So but
(36:29):
that didn't happen either, so I was quite bizarre. Payinnhause, Yep,
I agree, miss Barnett, totally agree. Liam Martin, great player,
hasn't really been doing much either, just like Dylan Edwoods.
But in there, you know, in the incumbent Angus Triton,
definitely I would have him there as well. Have i'ld
have Ingus Crichton there. He's a great player. And Isaiaho
obviously the Australian captain as well. He's coming now he's
(36:51):
now the new South Wales captain. Would you do you
think Jake Troytch would have would have been picked if
he was not injured.
Speaker 2 (37:00):
I'd say he shouldn't have, but he would have. Yeah,
and I imagine I imagine that. I imagine that he's
coming for Mexicans coming for him, you know, so he
probably would have had that extra spot on the bench.
I like the lock of the bench though, kind of Watson,
Lean you and Hudson Young and excellent. Yeah, I mean
I probaly would have had a Mexican myself, but I think, yeah,
(37:22):
Lean New I don't know if you saw that came
on Friday night, that Rooster's Bulldoll's game. But he was
just he was playing for a spot and he you know,
he it was sort of what he did in Origin
last year. You know, he came in and just bought
so much energy off the bench. So he can do that.
And then Hudson Young has been amazing for the Raiders
this year. I'm such a talented player. So he's got
so many, so many sort of fcets to his game.
(37:44):
So yeah, I'm I'm I'm yeah, no, No, there's just
a few a few sections that I'm questioning, But on
the whole, I think we'll still won three nil.
Speaker 1 (37:57):
Yep, fair enough. I mean Spencer new Years, I mean
he's made for Origin. When I say made for Origin,
not because of because of you know, like the skill player.
I just reckon, he's look a mongrel and them he'll
just stir things up, you know, he'll stir things up
on the day. But okay, just for times like this,
just go cooping into the Queensland Side. What do you
think about the Queensland side that was named?
Speaker 2 (38:18):
I think it's probably the best I've got. You've obviously
he had a few few outs head till Luggy came
out came out late, so I don't mind. I'm glad
to sort of put uh you know, the homes on
the on the on the wing with coats. Yeah, I mean,
I was wondering about Poler, but there's no one else really,
you know, like he's not playing great, but I don't know,
(38:39):
it's more of a there's not no one they can
really trust. And if he can, if he can perform,
you know, he's a he's an absolute game changer. And
I'm looking forward to see tell you have a good goal,
and the and the and the and the Cintas is
only pay ten in their old games, but in the
making his save Origin debuts. Only one other player that's
that's done that and it's Payton, Hasse and Tina this game,
(39:03):
So yeah, looking forward to it. But yeah, apart from
that fall back, you know, Tino Harry Grant, I was
surprised to see my fatherway here get a start on
the prop. But yeah, Ribbon Coddter playing second row. So
it's interesting. But then I care again, I'm looking forward
to seeing dead and off the beach. I think he
could be a real, real, real handful from New South
(39:24):
Wales and then the rest of the beach is pretty
good Lindsay Lindsay Collins both and Trent Loiro. So I
think there's been a bit more there's a bit more
sensible selections there, but they're also I think that there's
a few few injuries that have forced a few a
few movements around as well.
Speaker 1 (39:40):
Yeah, I mean I would have Kate Well over Ribbon
Cotty any day. I don't think riybn Cott has done
that great this season.
Speaker 2 (39:46):
Well, he's more of a he's more of a medal anyway,
you know, like he plays either front row or lock,
so like it's not like they don't have guys playing
the second rows. It's a bit weird to see him
playing in there. So hopefully that New South Wales can
you know, make the most defect position.
Speaker 1 (40:03):
Yeah, exactly. So Well, again, I'm a a Maroons fan,
you're a Blues fan, But at the moment, I'm actually,
you know, not one hundred percent confident in this Marine squad.
I think your score looks pretty good, but again it
depends that you're You're stacked with stars in the New
South Wales side, but not all of them are in form.
So it's gonna be an interesting series, especially this game
(40:24):
and you know with Origin, the size gets changed, you know,
game by game, So we'll see what happens. Hopefully cook
ca well we'll have a shot to get back in
the Maroons. I thought he would have thought his game
on Saturday just pushed him into that, but not to
be this week. But we'll see what happens later on.
But all right, so that's the game there, So let's
quickly go onto a quick quick preview for the Raiders game.
(40:46):
Now it's happening, it's coming week in now the Raiders,
they've only had one they're doing well there. They are
third on the table, I believe, Yeah, yeah, third on
the table, just behind us. So the Warriors, and they
only have one player that's been summoned to Origin, Hudson Young.
(41:08):
So basically they're going to have a full strength squad
without Hutton Young. They only played for God so they're
going to full strengths squads, which is going to be
difficult because we saw what it was the Vegas and
I think the Warriors will be looking to get revenge
of what happening in Vegas because it was a poor performance.
I mean, you don't have to agree with me, but
it was just an outright poor performance by the Warriors,
and I think they'll be looking to redeem themselves so
this this coming weekend.
Speaker 2 (41:28):
Yeah, yeah, I think you'd be an idiot if you
thought that it wasn't a poor performance in Vegas. So
they'll be brillian. Yeah, they'll be out for redemption. But yeah,
there's obviously with much much Bunny and pusheris both out,
you know, we're going to be lacking some firepower in
the front row there. So yeah, I think from just
touching on what you were saying before, I think Noil
(41:49):
Core at the front row probably does make the most sense.
Just you know, get an experienced guy there and we've
got that depth in the second row to hamming Jackson
Ford starting and then maybe you're either bunty or in
the stale smuff off the bench with the likes of
Laban in val Malga. Yeah, Neil Cory, I'd say we'll
be back to so Cape will be back to the
(42:13):
second row. But we'll see, we'll certainly decide to do.
But yeah, I mean, i'm i'm I'm looking to some
of these guys, to the likes of Egan and Cape
Pearl in particularly, I want to say some big games
from them for them to say, you know, like screw
you for not picking me for yourself for Origin, because
you know, some of the playing some really good footy.
(42:34):
So I'm looking forward to this game. I think this
game will be a big test as well. You know,
you look at the games with one and the games
we've lost or two games have lost have been to
the Raiders in the Storm, so they're fellows of top
four teams. So we're not quite tested against these other
sort of top four teams in the camp. So if
(42:55):
we can get a win here, the Boys, we pumped
you back at Mount Smaller, I'm sure first game back
there in five weeks, so hopefully the weather behaves. Actually,
even if it doesn't behave the Boys laws seem to
love a bit of rain at the moment. So yeah,
this is this is a bit big teste especially with
the likes of the guys who still got out, you know,
(43:17):
still missing a bit of fire aparwer at the front.
So I'm picking out a Warriors win by maybe twenty
two eighteen, twenty two eighteen, so you just you're picking
up the type one yeah, yeah, but have any other
way fair enough?
Speaker 1 (43:32):
Fair enough? Yeah, No, I'm with you on this one.
I really think the boys were were looking to redeem
themselves after after Vagas. I think Luke Metcalf especially, I
think that that'll be back on the back of his
mind after what happened on Vegas, you know. And a
good thing about the side is that ever since they gain,
they've just got every game, they've just got more confident
and confident. Their confidence is their conference is really high
(43:53):
at the moment, and I just think that you can
see it in their Bodil language. And then I just
think they hope they can just continue what they're doing
in the game.
Speaker 2 (44:00):
You know.
Speaker 1 (44:00):
It's the first home game in a while, so I'm
not sure it's sold out. I'm not sure if it's
sold out, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is.
Speaker 2 (44:07):
Yeah, sold out to it?
Speaker 1 (44:08):
Yeah, yeah, well there you go. Well, there you go.
No Viking clips, no hope, no Viking clips. No, itmounts
smart on Sunday. But yes, twenty to eighteen. I actually
think it'll be a Tope one as well.
Speaker 2 (44:21):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (44:22):
I can't predict the score. Actually I will predict the score.
What am I talking about? Twenty points to fourteen? And
when or six points to the Warriors.
Speaker 2 (44:29):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, twenty point starting. Yeah, we're both
in similar to the serater. We'll probably be up by
teen after the first half and then you know, we'll
be up by twenty the first half and then we'll
then then three tries to start the second half and
then hold on for a tight one. Hey, winter win,
win will take out.
Speaker 1 (44:50):
It sounds about right. It sounds about right when it
comes to the Warriors this season. But hey, as long
as they keep on winning, right, well we complaining.
Speaker 2 (44:56):
Nah take that, take a win any day of the week.
Speaker 1 (45:00):
Yeah, exactly, yep, fair enough, all right mate, we'll look well,
we'll wrap it up there. We'll just finish off with
some tips and then we'll finish up from there. So
do you want to take us through the tips, mate?
Speaker 2 (45:09):
Yeah? Just just five games this week, there's a Friday.
I don't know. I haven't been down the days of
the games. But Bulldogs and Dolphins are status off Builldogs
at home obviously one of the form teams of the
camp or they formed them the camp. The Dolphins are
causing up see here, John.
Speaker 1 (45:28):
Yeah, I didn't see it happening. The Bulldogs have lost
like writing, et cetera. But yeah, no, they've still got
the you know, the main core of their players are
doing really well. So I think the Bulldogs will will
still come away with this one.
Speaker 2 (45:43):
Mm hm, Yeah, I'm only are Dolphins, you know. I
think they'll bounce back after their heartbreaking loss to the Warriors.
You know, they'll be able to find a few a
few defensive holes there next time with us.
Speaker 1 (45:54):
Let's just let's just sorry. I was gonna say, let's
just say, I hope, I hope I'm I'm wrong and
you're right in this case, because then it gives us
a chance to go to first on the table. Wouldn't
because the points differential.
Speaker 2 (46:05):
Would have to win by it. We have to win
by about one hundred points to.
Speaker 1 (46:08):
Yeah, exactly exactly. But I was gonna say, you know, like,
you know, as long as we get the same amount
of points that we can work on from there. So yeah,
I hope that I'm wrong. I hope that I'm wrong.
Speaker 2 (46:17):
It'd be huge. Next time, we've got the Eels with
the Seagulls. Heel was coming off for a good win
against the Knights. The Seagles also coming for good one
against the Cowboys in Sydney Els home game. Come come
back Stadium. I'm gonna back for you.
Speaker 1 (46:32):
Yeah, I'm gonna back the Seagules just because actually I
was gonna say because Mitch Moses is out, but then
Delitary Jerry Heamans will be out as well, for mainly,
so they're missing their star halfbacks. Both sides.
Speaker 2 (46:48):
Yeah, ken to each other out of the day, although
although it was without there's probably a bit more gamerly
of Seagulls.
Speaker 1 (46:59):
Yeah. I should have mentioned that. Yeah, I should have
sat there. Yeah, I'll go. I'll go see Eaguals as well.
Speaker 2 (47:09):
Panthers Nights up next. Panthers obviously missing Cleary Yo Martin.
It would pleaing players in the Knights missing Callum Pommer
Nights look absolutely atrocious. Can the you know the baby
baby Panthers hold on the Knights out of there, out
(47:31):
of the butts.
Speaker 1 (47:33):
No, it's Panthers. I'm giving it to Panthers.
Speaker 2 (47:37):
I'm going to go the Knights. You get Palmer out
of there. He's obviously he's the he's a week long hurrican.
Speaker 1 (47:44):
Oh what a statement.
Speaker 2 (47:47):
Roasters Roaster Sharks up next. Roaster's coming off entertaining loss
to the Bulldogs where Mark Noah Noa s Right scored
one of the great tries all time. Honestly, I just
I've watched that replay about thirty times an hour and
I can keep watching it forever. That was something special
and the Sharks absolutely took it to the Storm in
(48:11):
Melbourne as well. It was a shout backs thirty one
in so Sharks could be you know, I think we
both had doubts about the Sharks. There are not losing
anyone to Orange, and I think are they.
Speaker 1 (48:25):
They haven't lost, they haven't lost anyone to Origin and
the Roosters, I mean they retain obviously to this, to this,
but they lose Triton, Ques, Lindsey Collins.
Speaker 2 (48:36):
Watson, Toyer. Yeah. So yeah, Sharks for me.
Speaker 1 (48:43):
Yeah, I'll go Sharks. I'll go Sharks.
Speaker 2 (48:45):
Yeah. And the Wise Raiders up something they have? How
good a bit of a suddeny have a fully for
the Warriors. If we haven't played this Sunday for a while,
there'll be the Warriors when by.
Speaker 1 (48:59):
Four to eight, How convenient is that the Broncos and
the Storm have a bye this week in an Origin week?
You know.
Speaker 2 (49:10):
It all works out over the over the three games, fact.
Speaker 1 (49:14):
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
Speaker 2 (49:17):
Anyway, any chance to throw throw some shade at the
broncos I'm there there.
Speaker 1 (49:23):
Well, they're under the pump, aren't they. I mean there's
a lot of there's a lot of disunity at the
moment going on and there, and they're behind the scenes.
I think, you know, the players are disgruntled with their
coach Michael McGuire and and in this coaching style, and
they pushed you know, he liked the comment. Yeah, they're
mighty top, you know, he liked the comment about about
(49:44):
there was something that was said about Michael McGuire, you know,
his coaching style, and then all of a sudden they
want to kick him out. I mean, there are other
players that have done worse, you know, they've done worse
and they're still staying in the side. So it's a
bit bizarre they have the wait. But yeah, it couldn't
happen to a bit of team.
Speaker 2 (49:58):
So yeah, so you just you absolutely hate to see it.
Speaker 1 (50:05):
Yes, it's archaism, guys, just in case you don't you
don't realize that anyway, that's us for tonight. Richard Worry
is going six six from six on Sunday night. Are
they going six from six, even though you've given us
the hip, give us your quick hot take six from six.
Speaker 2 (50:23):
Yeah, Brow, the boys are back in town, back at
the Fortress, the sold out crowd. We'll keep them home.
And they've talked to the last few weeks about how
the crowd's happened them out, even with a bit on
the road, So I'm expecting an absolute, huge, huge noise
from the crowd. As I said before, six to four
to eight points was home.
Speaker 1 (50:47):
Nice, nice, And I'm with you on that one. I'm thinking,
you know, just our momentum at the moment is going
to carry us through. And even though we're missing Barnett,
you know, an influential player for us, I think still
think we have the firepower to do it, despite the
fact that we've lost the plays to her injury as well.
So yep, may long, long May, sorry long may. The
machine continued to roll. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. I'm
(51:08):
getting a lot of words wrong this evening, So we'll
wrap it up there.
Speaker 2 (51:14):
Not every day, not every day the wise when five
and the excitement just keeps a bit much for us,
doesn't it.
Speaker 1 (51:22):
The funny thing is I've been doing all day, like
talking to my wife you know, my wife and I
was getting words mumbled up and she just laughed, laughing. Shecaus,
what's going on here? And I was just like, I
have no idea what's going on. I was getting words
out of place, names out of place, and yeah, she.
Speaker 2 (51:35):
Was just laughing.
Speaker 1 (51:35):
Hey, you work in media, but the's going on? I
was like, yeah, so yeah, I've just carried all that
for I don't know what it is, but maybe there's
the excitement. But anyway, we'll wrap it up from there.
