Speaker 1 (00:21):
Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to another episode
of The Couch Warriors. And yes, we are riding on
the back of a massive Warriors win, our best performance
of the season. I'm still excited. You probably hear it
in my voice. I'm still excited, Richard, my co host,
Are you still excited about what's going on with the
Warriors at the moment, because, honestly, that was the best
performance I've seen the Warriors play in a long time.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Crazy bro, Honestly, yeah, I was just trying to think
about We've talked so much about polished performance week in
week out, we've been getting the two points. It's good
to see. But to see that attack really really light
up for you know, what seemed like one of the
first times this season's exciting time. So theah, the group
chats started out with some of the boys and there's
some serious considerations about these buying some flights to Sydney
(01:05):
and October, because you know, it's it's the signs are
looking good.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
Yeah, they are looking you they are looking good. Normally,
you know, when we start this, I stay out the
sardin episode. We'll talk about how you're going. But I'm
just so excited. I'm pumped from this because honestly, like
I am not exaggerating when I say this is the
first time I seeing the Warriors play such an all
around game in a long time. And when I say
all around game, I'm talking about a combination of defense
(01:31):
and attack and just good thinking, just good thinking, you know,
the way they played, they went about their game. You know,
we the Warriors are renowned for being a team that
you know, in the past, they would throw the ball
around a bit, you know, and hopefully they'll they'll score
some flashy tries on the back of maybe some hope,
you know, although throwing those ball around. And then also
also no one renowned for being a team that you
(01:51):
know will lose their way a bit even if they've
got in tight games. But we'll see the total total,
no total contrast to that in the games that they
played with the Warriors been playing this year, and this
game for me was was was awesome because not only
were the Warriors okay, they had a strong start in
the first half, you know, got to twelve ten, you know,
the Caneala, they came back and you know, got to
(02:14):
them within two points, but then the second half We
just absolutely dominated them. And not only do we dominate
in defense, but it was our attack was just on point.
Everything was on point. Like I loved. I loved the
short balls and the ball runners running through and if
it wasn't a if it was a if it wasn't
one of them running through, we'll go out the back.
And they were just causing it was just causing confusion
for this Kronla defense and it was just it was
(02:36):
awesome to see that you know, we were doing that
and we're making a lot of meters. We didn't spend
as much time in the red zone as they did
in our red zone, but when whenever we were in
the red zone, we know we're making things happen, which
is which is really really promising and refreshing to see.
And the fact that also Cornella, who were fifth on
the table at the time our red zone, weren't able
(02:58):
to score. They just weren't able to break through our defense,
which is awesome because I mean, this game, we had
Wade Eggan out with the hip injury, we had Rocker
Berry out with the hamishen niggle. I mean, that guy
just can't catch a break. We've say, we've seen it
so many times. But what I don't know what's I
don't know what's happening with rock Roco. He's still a
young guy, so it was not like his body's to
tear eating or anything like that. But it's just, uh, yeah,
(03:18):
I feel sorry for the guy. Don't know what's going on.
I'd like to send them a text or something because
and asking what's going on, to see how he's feeling.
Last time I spoke to him was a few years ago.
The narticord him about four or five years ago. But yes,
last time I spoke to him. But yeah, and then
you got much Barnet as we know, out for the season.
But it was just an amazing performance. And I want
to talk about the you know, the guys performances specifically
of specific players and players, but before we do that,
(03:41):
it's just this, just do we'll go a little bit
deeper into the air. What was what did you love
about this game? So much? About the Warriors, how the
way they how the way they played, and how they
took it to the Sharks.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Yeah, bro, you've sill a lot to a bit of it,
but it was just really nice to see via tech
sort of flowing. Obviously, both both the halfs Metcalfe and
Harris Savida. They both had brilliant games. I thought it
was probably the best, close to the best we've seen
from both of them. I thought Harisavida and particularly, you know,
like a real standout set game for him. He had
a couple of couple of trisis from those bombs he does.
(04:14):
You know, they they don't look that pretty well off
the foot, off the foot, but it just shows, you know,
when you've got when you've got guys chasing up my
Hairsavida he chased one of them up himself and then
and then for Pompey and then the other one. Look
at how a Sema came from absolutely nowhere, and it's
just I mean, it's lovely to have a second roller
who can do that. I've talked about it in the past,
but you know, you got the likes of sort of
Jeremia and then I had the Cowboys. You got Ali
(04:36):
Katara at the Storm. The second rollers who you know,
they can you can put a bomb up for there,
and they've got a bit of height athleticism and he
just keeps showing that. So oh, just you know, so
much love's here, so shout out to a Hairsavida then
you know, picked up a couple of a couple of
late tries as well. Nico Hines sort of handed them
one on the plate a little bit, but he still
had to you know, run ninety meters. It's good to see,
(04:58):
but honestly, yeah, just just brilliant to see both sides,
both attech and defense. I think at the end of
their first half, they were the Sharks were rolling down hell,
you know, like they had all the momentum. It was
an absolute huge play from Charms basically right on the
right on the hooder just stopped Hemling new La from scoring.
And if he had scored, you know, we would have
(05:19):
gone into the halftime down and then he can have
could have been a lot different. So just like players
like that just show sort of weirdest team as everyone
stepping up doing their job, or the young boys, they
just you know, like another one of them seems to
be stepping up each each week. I just, yeah, I loved,
loved everything I saw from the team, and it was
(05:40):
the most complete performance I think we've seen a few.
You know, I think we saw signs of the last
week against the Rebbinos. You know, the attack looked a
lot better than they had been the last few weeks.
Now we were struggling to score more than sort of
sixteen alien points. We scored about thirty point thirty thirty
six points in that game, maybe, but we the defense,
you know, we were leading and tries there this one, we
just shut them off that second half. We flucked the
(06:02):
switch and and you know till quite late in the game,
there was a few chances that the shark's head and
they could have scored some tries while we were up
by thirty, but we still you know, like I mean,
Roger made a big play to sort of better kick out,
and I think Chars had a big, big chickle on
Katura as well. So to have that mentality to not
be living tries and even when you're up by thirty points,
(06:23):
it just shows that teams in a great position. So
I think, yeah, that that game was what we've been
waiting to see, and there was just, yeah, a lot
to like about that.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Yeah, I mean, I mean, it's no, it's obviously you know,
if you're if you're a supporter, you can see that
we've been winning our matches on the back of our defense.
We've been putting some early points on, but then from
there it's basically just defending the team that are coming back.
That's the way the whole season's been panning out. And
you know, and I'm pretty sure we know if we
could see, I'm sure they could see it as well,
(06:54):
and every other thing could see it that we needed
to do something about our attack. And you could just
see that with our points differential going to this game,
we're on plus five, you know, after forty, after thirteen rounds,
you know, it's not really good enough, especially for your
for a top four team. I mean, don't get me wrong,
I know we're winning, and we was up there so
happy about that, but that points differential, especially in a
tight comp and we we all know that's a tight
(07:15):
comp this year. That is a crucial crucial element to
to the latter. So something needed to improve there, and
I think they I think that the Warriors realized as
well that they needed to step up, you know a
little bit in an attack. And it was just really
it was just it was just good to see you
can see that they've they've done something. They've just got
they've just said okay, let's do this, and led by
Luke Metcalf, who was who's he was? He's having a blinder,
(07:37):
isn't He's having a blinder of a season so far.
And he made that tackle break you know that passed
into I think it was bal Mongo saw that try,
you know it was it. Yeah, it was just I
think they got the same heckers and sometimes you can
get mixed up there, but nah, there was that was
just just seeing him the way he's running the ball
and you know, in his in his managing the side,
(07:59):
you know, directing this. Remember we talked about at the
start of the season, we were saying that he needs
to combine this. At the moment, he will. We thought
that his focus was on managing the side, that it
was neglecting his attacking side of things. But I think
he's actually got it right now and he's actually getting
it all, getting it all together, and yeah, it's just
it's amazing. It's just meeting to see him just doing that,
(08:20):
just putting because once he's managing and attacking and defending,
he's unstoppable at the moment. And that's what's happening. That's
why he's at the top of the delim Delian Middle list.
At the moment. So yeah, that was just an amazing game.
I was just I was It wasn't just I was
just excited because we won the game. That's how we
won the game and why I was so excited. And
I think every Warriors fan you know will say the
(08:41):
same thing. They will just tell you that's the way
they went about it and the mentality, and you know,
and you know, when you go look at Australian media,
for example, you go to Australian media, whether it's TV,
radio or you know, news or print, it doesn't really matter.
When you see all the headlines and all the talking
about the Warriors saying they're the real deal or their contenders.
When you hear Australian media say all that sort of stuff,
(09:02):
you know, something is something's something's going right, something's going
well within the Warriors. And you know, I don't believe
in jinxing all this sort of stuff, So it doesn't
really matter. But it's long may it last. And I
just wanted to quickly bring something up with you. Remember
before the season started, or maybe maybe it was before
the season started or just a little after, I told
you that last year we had a bad season because
(09:22):
I said it's our year, and I said I wouldn't
do it this year. So I'm just gonna say, I'm
just going to claim the fact that I've said I
didn't say I haven't seen it. It's our year. That's
the reason why I'm going so well, I know that's
a lot of crap, but anyway, I'm just going to
claim it anyway.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
But yeah, but I'll claim it because I've seen it
every week. Yeah, you know, we go to the Grand Vinyl,
so somewhere in between the two of us, you know.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
Yeah, well we can both claim it and it doesn't matter.
The win's a win, right, win win. But I mean
in this in this game, mate, there was a lot
of hype and talk around the matchup between Adam Vanilla
Blake and James Fisher Harris. But to be honest with you, mate,
where was Nflorid Blake? I mean, I loved that. I
thought he was. I think he's an amazing player, loved
him at the Warriors and stuff so good. It just
(10:09):
like everyone else was when he left. But he you know,
you know, he he was he was missing in that game,
like he was hard. He was hardly seen and you
know when he got the ball, he didn't make the
impact that he normally does. He's the player that actually
gets the ball, runs it makes post a lot of
post contact meters, puts his team on the front foot.
But that didn't happen in this game. He was totally outnumbered,
(10:31):
but not just a Fisher Harris, but by the other
forwards Jackson Ford even so, yeah, that that matchup wasn't
as as hyped up, you know, didn't didn't didn't you know,
work out to be the hype was supposed to be
in that game. But yeah, but what do you think
about the whole Enfanoel Blake, James Fisher Harris thing.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
Yeah, bro, Like I've sort of thought the same. I
think he just seemed to be sort of play off
the park a little bit, you know, I mean hardly
even sort of noticed he was there. And I'd had
a few beers during the game, and and I went
out to the to the public and asked, you know,
like you know, if if he wanted to come back
on competionate grounds, we'll we take him. And there was
a very strong you know, no way, there's no place
(11:14):
from at the moment, And I mean, you know, you
still have to consider it. But he's obviously a good player,
but it's just, yeah, whether he'd fit in the you know,
and the setup we've got at the moment with all
these young fellas, you know, like his his departures just
meant the likes of sort of Jackson Ford I knew,
a core aised you know, he's sort of looking back
to his best you know, Hellema Labor and these boys
(11:39):
are all just they're putting their hands up week in
week out, and yeah, consistency. So yeah, I mean he
definitely the way that the Warriors are set up at
the moment that you know, like it would be it
would be, you don't know where you put. I'm sure
we'd be able to find spot for him, you know,
especially with Barnie out. I'm sure we wouldn't mind having
him started in the front row. But yeah, I was
(12:03):
I mean, if you told me to start of the season,
if I'd ask that question halfway through the season, and
and you know, probably about eighty percent of Warriors fans
to say, like quite aggressively say hell no, I would
have been very surprised. But it's just, yeah, we're we're
the teamers. Where the teamers at the moment the club
is they've sort of got over that spot. They've they've
moved on very quickly. And I think from watching that game, yeah,
(12:26):
the Warriors fans around the around the country, around the
world wouldn't have been too disappointed about the sort of
departure of AFB and especially Harris is a funny one
because he I think it's obviously just his presence, you know,
because you look at the stats and all that, you know,
he doesn't dominate the stats. It's awesome to see him
s call that try and it was awesome to see
(12:47):
some motion from him because you don't see him smile
that often. You know, he's a he's a serious bloke.
But it was beautiful just to see him. Will Marga
put him through that hole and you know, you don't
often see a front rower go over that easily, but
he would take it. But it was cool to see that.
But yeah, I think it's just for sha Harris's presence
on that field is obviously you can just see that
(13:08):
it's worn off. The professionalism has worn off of them,
likes those guys I was talking about before, So you know,
we've got in a couple more years of that and
it's scary to think sort of like how far the
likes of your sort of your your hello seemens and
your your laban's and your farm magus could go, if
you know, we're continuing like a couple of them assigned
till twenty twenty nine. So it's huge now, we don't
(13:31):
We don't say that much from nineteen twenty year olds
these days. So yeah, I mean, I'm loving that. Forsha
Harris's been there, especially a good time when you come
back just as Barnet's out, and I think behind the scenes,
I'm sure Bannet's done a lot as well. You know,
I can imagine he's really involved off the field, and
and yeah, like Webster will be, will be utilizing the
(13:53):
sort of the leadership of both both those those co captains.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
Yeah, no, I mean, I mean Barnett. I mean, he
may be up for the season, but he's still kept.
He's still a co captain. That doesn't change, right, He's
still got this you know, the captain's arm band around him,
so he'll be there. He'll be still directing, you know,
putting in the thoughts, et cetera, and you know, putting
in the words in there. So you'll still be doing that.
I'm pretty sure anyway. But going back to talking about
(14:19):
that try from James Fisher Harris, the try kind of
was like was kind of like a mirrored what Aphano
Blake normally does. He's usually the guy that gets the
war and runs through. It was kind of kind of
funny that way, is that, you know, when and if
Nord Blake scores tries as usually in that kind of
manner where a short or he'll just run through. The
defense doesn't lay a hand or they just can't stop
him anyway, and he just goes through, you know, unfazed
(14:40):
and just puts the ball down.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
It.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
That was the funny thing about it. But yeah, no,
James Fisher Harris, I think it was website that said
that whenever he enters the room, everyone just stops and
listens to him, you know, they take him seriously and
he has a presence about it about him And yeah,
you're right, You're absolutely right. I mean we may not
be there, but I think everyone knows that. You know,
(15:03):
when James Fisher Harris enters the room, there's a something changes,
you know, and I think a lot of the mindset
has changed because of his input you know, he's come
from a team that's just won four premierships on the trot.
You know, he knows what he's talking about, he knows
what he's doing, and he's the key he's kept them
as well. So no, I mean, I mean I still think,
you know, Eron Clark is probably the buy of the season,
(15:24):
maybe not not just for the Warriors, but maybe in
the NRL in general. But you know, having Fisher, Fisher Herris,
there's not only we have got a great you know
front row forward you know, in our in our ranks there,
but we've also got such a good, great leader, which
is probably what we needed. We had Band and Bannet's
great leader as well. By having them both there, there's
just just this big advantage to us. So yeah, going
(15:45):
back to there, So I saw you. I saw your
post and I saw it and I correcked it laughing
when I saw it, and I just saw the comments.
I saw the comments on it saying yeah, well no, no,
no way, no way, no way. But there are there
were some people that said yes, they would take it
back in the heartbeat, but yeah, there were a lot
of no ways. I honestly would have taken back because then. Honestly,
and I'll say it on the back of one of
the answers that you gave to someone on social media.
(16:07):
I'm not sure what page it was, but I think
it was Warriors Uncut or using the Warriors till I die.
I can't remember which one I said. But you said
that him not being there has made it easier for
the rotation of the bench. Is that what you said?
Is it that you said something along those lines. Do
you want to do you want to eleborate on that,
because there was I thought it was a good answer.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
Yeah, that was sort of what I loaded to before.
It is that his his departure has sort of just
meant that the balance is right in the in the
Ford rotation. You know, we've seen what well it's sort
of unleashed in Jackson Ford and even you know Jackson Ford,
for example, he was he was known to start. He's
put onto the bench. Last week, no Corea went into
the front row, Layban stepped up started I think only
(16:49):
his second game in the front row with Aulasma, so
we had it, you know, a really sort of disjointed
Ford peck. But the way the rotation is at a moment,
everyone knows their role. If they have to do something else,
they'll they'll just do it. They won't ask questions. And
we sort of saw that, you know, and it's good
to see your core. And I mean he's a guy
at the start of the season that both of us
(17:09):
were sort of he was saying, you know, he wasn't
great last year. You know, how long are we going
to persist with him? But there's no way I'll be
getting rid of him now. You know, like he brings
brings the energy every week, and he brings that power.
So yeah, I think it's it's it's just about the
sort of the balance of of the Fords, the Ford
rotation and his his departure is sort of allowed these
(17:32):
other guys to come and step up and and every
we're just seeing every week we're seeing an improvement. And
even you know, like you know, like I'm not sort
of unrelated, but you know, you've got Cape Well who's
played a couple of games down the centers and he's
almost looking like one of our best centers at the moment.
You know, Like I was against the move originally, but
(17:52):
he's every time he goes out there, he does the
role and plays it. Brilliantly. So it's just yeah, I
mean yeah, the teams. In the teams and the real spot,
the clubs and in a real spot, you know, you look
on New South as cap they're absolutely dominating the dominaining.
There a couple of guys who are who I'm sure
if they do or when they get a chance, they're
gonna they're gonna relish the opportunity as well. So yeah,
(18:15):
I think that was probably what I was learning to
but I had had a few beers at that point, so.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
Oh yeah, nothing like a drunken post right on social
media to get everyone going. But well said mate, and honestly,
just I know this is not worries. Later, let's lets
talk about cuickly just the minimal to about the Sharks,
because you know, before this game started, and I actually
took screenshots of this of you know, like not a
lot of a lot of social media platforms, you know,
whether it's you know, the Fox League or nine nine
(18:45):
League or what's it called the league or something or
not I com rember, but all these different platforms will talk.
They had their tips and they had the experts, you know,
experts being former players, et cetera, and journalist et cetera,
giving the giving the tips in honestly, I honestly, there
was only like literally one or two that picked the Warriors.
Everyone was just thinking Sharks, Shark, Sharks, I think, I think, honestly,
(19:09):
there there are a lot of people out there that
were they were just waiting for the Warriors to crack.
They're thinking, like, oh, yeah, they're going on, they've they've
had a long streak of wins. Surely, surely they're going
to crack at some point. Well, we didn't crack, you know,
we actually if it's if anything, we exploded into something
even bigger and better and so and the Sharks were
fifty the most at the time. And you know, they're
(19:29):
not they're not a bad team. I know that the
week before they got they got beat them pretty well.
I can't remember who beat them. Was a forty point
game as well, that's right, the Roosters, yes.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
And I think it was the Roasters without their origin
players as well. So yeah, it wasn't a great look
for the Sharks.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
No, no, it wasn't. And they're a team full of good,
great players there, you know, but it just shows I'm
and you know, in the on this show. I've you know,
given a bit of stick to Niko Hines, don't There's
nothing personal or anything. I just don't think he's the
greatest player out there. But I just think that I
don't know, you know, it's easy to say this now
(20:07):
because it's been a few seasons there, but going to
Cornello probably wasn't the greatest thing for him. He's doing
really well at Melbourne. I understand why he left, but
he hasn't really made He hasn't really you know, he
hasn't really lifted up to that to that level that
we all thought that he was going to. And he's
their playmaker and stuff and he don't get me wrong,
he's a great player, a great individual player, but I
(20:29):
don't think it's really working for it at the Sharks.
And I just think that, yeah, no, he looked he
looked lost as well. I mean basically the whole team
did as soon as as soon as the Warriors got
the momentum at the second half and was just pushing them,
pushing them, pushing them back. I just think that, yeah,
he was, he was lost. He needed to step up
for his team and do something there, and you know,
(20:49):
against a team that's actually pushing them, pushing them back.
But he was lost. And don't feel sorry for the bloke.
You know, he was the state of Origin at one point.
He was because that's how good he was. And then
I just think this, this this time at half back
at Crenella, has just not worked out for him. I
don't know if going to another team will change it
or not, or maybe going to fall back because he
was more used as a utility right in Melbourne. There
(21:10):
was the whole point of him leaving Melbourne because he
was he was never going to get past Jerome Hughes,
that Karen Cameron Munster or Peppenheisen, so you know, was
never going to get past those guys. So I understand
why he left, but I just don't think the move
has worked for his form and mentality as well. He
just looks like he's lost. What are your thoughts on that?
On look your hines in the charts in general.
Speaker 2 (21:32):
Yeah, well, I think him and Trendall were definitely the
more chouted hearts peering of the you know the two
in that match, and and and Metcuff and Harris Tavilla
just played them off the off the field day. Yeah,
I mean Allude to it before, but yeah, heines with
it and just said, Harris Tavilla. You know, it was
quite late in the game, and I think I think
(21:53):
that was the last charl we scored. So yeah, you know,
we were out by twenty four at the time, but
he just basically handed the ball of hair to be
the you know, I think he's a real Yeah, he
is a real confidence player, and I mean, yeah, you
do kind of feel sorry for him because you know,
like he's obviously talented and when he's on, he's really good.
But I think, yeah, like just mentally he's he's just
(22:15):
not He's seen that sort of insh degree that a
lot of these sort of you know, EU clearis and
your own users and yeah, sort of Sean Johnson in
his day and in some of the real premiere sort
of half backs. They've got that sort of mental thing.
And yeah, I mean you feel bad because he probably
you know, like he probably can stick on social you know,
(22:36):
on social media for like, I think the Sharks are
probably a pretty pretty proud fan base, you know, so
you hope that they're not, you know, not not giving
it to him too much. And yeah, but he was,
I mean, he's he's played played Origin and he's won premierships.
You know, I think he won a premiership and didn't
even play in the game. You know, he was he
(22:56):
was played the fourteen Jersey and the Storm didn't need
him one year and the in the final, but he
was a big part of them them been there.
Speaker 1 (23:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
And I don't know whether going to another club's going
to fox it or not, but yeah, I mean that
Sharks tend they're a good chair and and and they
were one of the you know, like we've we've been
winning games that we haven't sort of been beating with
a lot of them have been against teams that maybe
an in the top eight whatever, but that Shark's team were,
they were right up there the start of the season.
They were I think I definitely hit them in my
(23:25):
top four or five. I think from memory he definite
hit them in the aid. At least they've got some
really good you know, got Phania Blake, got him in
U l A. They've got heaps of internationals bridging the
poor Yeah, ok, r oh, he's he's one of the
best things in the game at the moment, I reckon.
(23:45):
So yeah, plenty of plenty of talent in that team,
and but they're obviously in a bit of a bit
of trouble at the moment, having coming off to two
big losses at home as well. I'm just trying to
think were the Sharks comes at home? But we've now
got a good record against them at home, so the
last three times we've played them. One was that game
where we came back from like twiny nil. Shawn Johnson
(24:08):
kecked it only from from about forty meters out, and
then Nico Hines had a leader tried to draw it
right on heart full time. And then last year we
had another big comeback there Seawan Johnson's last game, and
then obviously this so Shark Park a happy hunderground for
the for the Warriors. And I don't know if you
heard the commentary saying, but it's the first time I
think since No. Five that were won five games in
(24:30):
a row in New South Wales. So that's that's no
mean fake, you know, for for a team who in
traditionally haven't been great traveling. You know, you know often
will be good at home, but as soon as we
hit the road it comes a lot harder. Like the
amount of cays that the Warriors generally you know, travel
(24:50):
compete to other teams is about you know, two times
as March, so to get ye five ones on the
road against against New South Wales teams. You know, you
think I'm trying to think what they would have been
obviously the last two games Tigers, maybe the Sharks game
last year, and maybe there's another one this year. I
(25:10):
can't actually think, but yeah, so so yeah, sorry Sharks fans,
but we might we might now be your bowy team.
We might finally have you know, a team that were
their bowy team after many years of counting our South
where the Storm's boaty team when we're really not anymore?
Speaker 1 (25:28):
Yeah? Well yeah, I mean the Sharks they are, you
know they are. They were considered contenders. I guess they've
been considered contenders from the start. I mean they haven't
shown enough to be you know, maybe premiership contenders, but
obviously within the top eight at least and possible top four.
But then, you know, again, may we go back to
(25:49):
what I was saying about all the people just tipping
them because they're expecting the Warriors to finally cracking, going
on about saying, oh they've played under these things, but
they haven't played it but you know what, I'm glad
they I'm glad they all said there and they'm glad
they all tipped against us, because not only did we
prove them wrong, we proved them wrong in a big way.
It was it was a polished performance. It wasn't just
a win, it was a it was an exhilarating win.
(26:12):
It was just amazing win. And it was just clever
forty all round defense, attack, just clever forty all round.
The way they went about it was just magical. And
you know that's I think that's what makes the game.
Their game was more special is the way they went
about the win. So awesome, awesome. Let's just quickly go
into one more thing about the game. Well, you know,
(26:35):
as we mentioned before, it's a lot of injuries, but
a lot of young fellow fellaws have stepped up. This
is the season. One of them who stepped up for
the first time is in terms of debut, In terms
of starting debut, Sam Healley. I think there was a
starting debut. I think I think he's played before. He
played one first grade game, but he came off the bench. Yeah,
so Sam Healey actually has us has strong ties to
(26:56):
Cronulla because of his dad, Mitchigley, who played for He
was a bit of a he was a fan favorite
star there.
Speaker 2 (27:03):
But he I thought he was two hundred and twenty
odd games, I think.
Speaker 1 (27:09):
Exactly exactly. So what I'm trying to say is that
you know he was he was playing in front of
a crowd that you know. I'm pretty sure growing up
he what he would probably wanted to be a plain
in front of in the stark sters. I think he
did for a little while in the in the in
the in the lower grades like reserve grade. I think
he played for Newtown last year, Newtown Jets last year,
but prior to that he was in Cronulla. But yeah,
(27:31):
he was playing against He gives me a bit of
a home a home club in a way, such a thing,
but the way he went about it, he I thought
he was amazing. And I actually prior to when when
as soon as I heard that Waiting was out, I
wasn't concerned, like you, I mean, yeah, we want Waiting
in this, he's the man. But putting Sam Healey's directly
in there, I was just wasn't concerned. I just I
(27:52):
just had the confidence that he was going to do
the job and do it well? And what were your
thoughts on Sam Heay?
Speaker 2 (27:58):
Yeah, again, I would like to say him to play
more minutes. Actually I think he played forty five fifty maybe,
And I get it obviously, like to Marion, Madden's there
and they want to make sure that they're sort of
utilizing him his utility. But yeah, I was surprised that
I think in the second half they just I would
have thought they would have bought him on earlier. But yeah,
love what I saw from him. He looks hungry, you know,
(28:20):
every time he's sort of there, he's he's not afraid
to but we dart from dummy from dummy half and
a really clean distributor of the ball as well, you know,
like he seems like a yeah, definitely talent we want
to hold onto. Yeah, so yeah, I love the irony
of him sort of come up against Cranella. Look metcalffs
obviously Cranella junior as well. So there must be a
(28:41):
few yeah, like must have been a few Crania fans
in the crowd, you know, like they're like, oh, you
know what we could have heard, you could have had
you know, Looke Metcalff over Nico Hines. But it's a decision.
There's a decision that someone in the you know, the
Cranella management's made a few years ago, and the Warriors
this year being the benefits of it. Yep, but ye around, yeah, exactly, Yeah,
(29:05):
because I think the last time last time I saw
Healy was just I think it was a Cowboys game
and he came on I think Dragons maybe, and he
came on for you know, ten minutes, but just yeah,
bought some amazing energy. So it's cool to see him, Yeah,
get the start obviously brought in I think about midday
on you know, I felt like I kind of had
had been Yeah, I hadn't been on social media day
(29:25):
and I went to here like two months for the game.
I saw that he was he was playing, so and yeah,
I mean plenty more of the young fellows stepped up
as well, you know, Laban Laban had a second start,
and then obviously Lika Vala was Memo off the bench.
I think it's probably the best of scene of scene
(29:46):
of him and a Warrior's juicy and yeah, I know
it's a really good balance of Yeah, the future is
very exciting when you when you see the likes of
these guys stepping up, especially off short you know, like
short notice both sort of like Laban and heally when
it's needed to start and for them to sort of
(30:07):
and the way that we started the game. You know,
we were up thirteen nil pretty early in the game,
you know, after twenty minutes or something like that. So yeah,
they're just they don't seem afraid of the of the challenges,
seem up to the challenge and really to sort of
give their all. It's awesome to.
Speaker 1 (30:21):
Sea, you know, I love I'm loving the injection of
these young guys into the side. I'm loving the fact
that Webster's given them, has a lot of faith in them.
You know, you know, some of them are nineteen, are
not coming with the exact ages, but they're in the
nineteen to twenty one age range and they're just stepping
in and they're not only showing their talent. They're obviously
immensely talented players, but it's the it's the mindset. I
(30:45):
did a video on the weekend. I don't know if
you saw it, you know about you know, about the
young guys, but it's just that it's their mindset. Their mindset. Sorry,
that is really, really, really is what God is impressing me.
It's their talent mixed with their mindset. They're not they're
not trying to do anything too stupid. You know, they're
not trying to say I'm young, I can do this,
I can do watch me, I'll do all this. You know,
they're not trying to do just pull out all these things.
(31:06):
They're just paying a good game, paying some good footy.
It's really good footy. Like you said, Hellosima in the air,
not only is he know, he's tackling well, defending well,
is attacking well. His ability to get high above the defender,
you know, in the end zone there and scores. You know,
it's a wap. He's a weapon. He's he's a bloody weapon.
And you know, kick more, do more up and under
(31:28):
to him there because you know there's a good chance
that he's gonna come away with It was not the
first up and under that he has contested. It's not
the first one that he's contested and scored. He's done
a couple of them already the season, so why not
use it even more? And I haven't seen Vamonga do that.
But he's he's just he's doing his he's doing his thing.
In a different way. You know, he's getting up the biggest,
(31:50):
he's taking the big meters. His defense is great, and
he's awesome. There's awesome support player as well. When he
scored that try from look when Luke Metcalf made that break,
he's you know, he's there in support. Yeah, exactly. So
in Hellos, Sama, we thought we we saw that try.
He didn't. You know, he scored when he was on
the wing. I can't remember who it was against, but
(32:11):
it was, Yeah, we'scored that try, you know, so we
know he's got pace as well. And like you said,
the future for the Warriors is looking bright. And I
love the fact that the Warriors have nailed them down
for many years. And hopefully it's it sticks, it stays,
you know, it's it's it's set in stone, because we
all know sometimes contracts don't mean anything in the NRL.
But but hopefully that's the way it is and it
(32:33):
stays that way, you know. Jacob Laban v Hellesema, Sam Healey.
You know, I mean, I don't know how long, how
much longer Wade Egan will last.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (32:44):
I still think he's got, you know, a few seasons
still left in them. But hopefully Sam Healey will stick
around as well, because you know, he's he's something, he's
he's definitely someone that we could use. All these all
these young boys are doing are doing their part, and
I'm just impressed by their their their belly. They are
not only the natural food, the ability attack, defense, but
(33:04):
their mindset, the way they're going about it. And I
do believe that Barnett and Fisher Harris have have had
a lot to do with it in terms of implementing
all that you know, into into the young guys. So no, again,
the future is looking bright for the Warriors. It's awesome
to see and you know, again we say it all
the time, but you know, I'm going to say it
again long mate lasts because it's just it's just brilliant.
(33:26):
It's just brilliant. But anyway, mate, let's just move on
from that. Let's let's move onto your signment made the Ems.
Speaker 2 (33:34):
Yeah for sure. So for those who don't know that
they are walleums, which is our equivalent of the Jeliams,
but we just give it for Warriors games. Well, we've
gone behind closed doors, you know, as the Yaliams have,
So I haven't actually opped out of the scores, but
I think Aaron Clark storiling just before I. But I
(33:54):
really struggled this week. Bro, There's just so many players
who who who deserve points. Honestly, I had about eight
players written down who are could have given some points to.
So I kind of tried to just mix it up
and you know, give it to some faces and mightn't
have seen as much of So I gave my three too.
(34:17):
Val Malga, Actually I love what I saw from her men.
It was just it was just awesome to see off
the bench. Brought so much energy. Yeah, great try from
support play and awesome triasis. So he's sort of just
showing some showing some skills all over the all over
the field. And he played forty minutes, but it felt
like he played a lot more in eleven runs and
(34:40):
one hundred and look for me, there's twenty one tackles here.
So there's some good, real good stats of of of
forty minutes. But it was just, yeah, that second half,
he really came to his own and it was the
best we've seen from him in the and in the wise.
Jersey so loved that too. It was basically had Harris
severa and metcalf up the hairs to be at this
(35:00):
time with two tries to two tries one hundred and
fifty running meters. Obviously an intercept helps your running meters,
but we'll take there. In twenty three tackles, I thought, Yeah,
I mean, I think we you know, talking about his
offense in this game, but I mean weekend waking out.
He's so good on defense and twenty three tackles and
(35:21):
on the weekend and and some some big ones, but
just cool to see him. He looks really happy to
be there, and I thought that was the beast of
seeing from this season to long made it last and
seeing k another one point for him. He obviously picked
up six points last week, but yeah, another backed up
(35:41):
at performance with another huge, huge performance two undred and
forty two meters, six tackle breaks, the trysaver on halftime,
and then he had another try saver as well, and
then he had a line break really early in the
first half. Could have been the first seat of the
first second half. Sorry much the lead to I think
it was by Maga's try. So yeah, just you know,
(36:02):
I mean we've both sort of been like, oh, you know,
do we need to get to a Pickie in there.
But I mean the way Chance is playing it, you know,
he's he's You can't Christion a spot there. And maybe
if we will get to a Picky in there, maybe
we can get him on the wing if dell And
keeps sort of not being as good as we know
he can be. But that's my three two one, bro.
(36:23):
Who you got for us?
Speaker 1 (36:24):
Yeah, no, I'm on this. I'm the same with you, mate.
I had really struggled to figure out who who I
give my points because they all deserved a shout out.
Like you look at the likes of Pompey for example,
Pompy had a great game as well. He probably he
was a standout compared to the other players, but he stood.
He did get an immense game like he's got to try.
(36:45):
Also in defense, he made that big tackle. Come out
who did it on? But he made a big tackle
as well. I thought he was pretty good seeing kay
that you were just saying, I've always been a fan
of to a pickie. But and they played they played different,
they played different kind of games, and they took Picky
and Chance. But Chance has a more of a workload mentality,
but he keeps on making the you know, the line breaks,
(37:09):
tackle breaks as well, and also you know, just keeps
some making the you know, just storm out the field
and giving the our forwards a break. You know, he
just takes a takes a big load on for them
for them. So it's just a yeah, I found it
really hard, you know, but I'm gonna I had so
I had similar I was similar to you. I hate
actually by mom late at three as well. I had
three points. We've actually getting lately, we've been getting a
(37:31):
lot very very similar scores here, but the same reasons.
I just thought, you know, la Union played forty meters,
but it looked like he played a lot more than
that because his prisoners was it was really was was
you know, his prisoners was there, and you just you know,
you know, he was just doing his thing and in
attack and defense and he saw that awesome try like
I was alluding to before the support play he was playing,
(37:52):
you know with mit Cart made the break. He was
there to he was there to carry on, had the
pace to go go through as well. So yep, three points,
two points for jackson Ford. I thought jackson Ford had
a really great game. I thought he was he was
brilliant and you know, again, as we say most most
weeks when we talk about Jackson Ford, it's not there.
He doesn't do anything flash or anything. He just does
(38:13):
the job. He just he has a here's a role.
He's been given responsibilities. It's like it's like saying, these
are your tasks, go do them, and he just does them. Well.
You know, he's he's not the biggest front row forward,
but he you know, he continues to make post contact
meters pretty well. He's getting through his tech. It's not
like he's been you know, hit back or anything. So
he's doing his job well. And he did a great
(38:34):
job in Philly Barney's you know, Boots there even though
he didn't start. But so two points for there, and
I had one point for Harris de Vita. I admit that,
you know, throughout the season, I haven't been like, I mean,
I'm a fan of Harris de Vida, but I've just
always thought that maybe there's someone you know, you know,
cough cough, Tanner Boyd that could probably be you know,
probably be there rather than harrista Vida because of you know,
(38:55):
he's got more more what's the word, more areas, but
more so.
Speaker 2 (39:01):
Just more.
Speaker 1 (39:03):
He's more you know tools, you know, Yeah, and we're
using more tools to use in terms of his kicking game,
et cetera and things like that. And but he was great.
He was great. I thought he was brilliant against the
Sharks and we scored that try when he ran what
ninety meters, I actually thought he wasn't gonna make it
for a second, it looked like he was about the
break down. Yes, I thought that he was going to
(39:27):
get caught because it looked like he was an agony
towards the end of it. And when he actually put
the ball down, he couldn't give back up for a
bit because it looked like he was an agony. But
he got there. But yeah, no on two tries on
the night, and yeah, just I just thought he had
a brilliant game and so he'll take my one point.
So yes, very different, different names, except for Jackson Ford
(39:48):
is usually quite a regular now Allians. But yeah, it
was it was really hard to just pinpoint who deserved
the three two one because there were so many that
could have easily been picked as well on.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
The side, honestly, but just for example, like two bunch
of shit two hundred and two hundred meters twenty two
rounds success even post content meters five tackle breaks, but
we didn't talked about them the whole game pretty much.
I thought he was amazing and he's just absolutely he's
thriving on that right way, and it's it's so good
(40:19):
to see, you know. After last year he was a
bit you know, but if he and the centers, you know,
but he's found a spot, you know. Aaron Clarker obviously
makes an appearance every week. He had one hundred and
seveny made us for nineteen runs and he had about
thirty odd thirty five tackles or something like that. So yeah,
there was plenty of other guys. And I had Jackson
Buburn down as well. I thought he yeah, I mean,
(40:40):
he is so good off the bench and loving to
see it. So I thought, just because it's a bye week, John,
and we did it. We did it in the first
Warriors by week, we could do a little. It's about
a mid season review, I suppose now, just a real
quick sort of around the trips. We've got a few
MVP most improved Players, the most surprising back, and best
(41:02):
Ford for the season so far. So start with beast Ford.
I'm ready to start us off here. I'm gonna go. Yeah.
Aaron Clark obviously mentioned he's leading the l EAMs. He's
just been wake and wake out the most consistent player
in the Warriors team. He could probably fit the most
(41:22):
surprising as well, and you know most improved as well.
So yeah, Iaron Clark for me best forward, you follow
me in.
Speaker 1 (41:31):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I've got Jackson Ford. And the only
reason why I've got him, there's the reason why I'm
saying Jaxon Ford rather than your claik. I'll playing that later,
But Jackson Ford, I just think that, you know, normally,
you know, he's not really he's he's come from he's
come from the second row, right, and they've they've they've
given him like you know, make sure throwing the fort
(41:51):
in the front road, saying like we need you here,
and he's just he's just he's put his hand up
and he hasn't questioning. He's just done the job and
he's done it well.
Speaker 2 (41:59):
I love I love his.
Speaker 1 (42:00):
Style, like it's no nonsense, it's just get the job done. No,
he just gets the job done. And he's and he
takes a lot of carries as well, like he's always
putting his hand up to take the carries and stuff.
That's why I think, Oh, and he's got a good
you know, he's got a big engine on me. Like
he lasts well sometimes I think, I mean he plays
for like sixty to eighty soon meet so many minutes
(42:20):
sometimes doesn't he takes He lasts that long on the field.
So knowing that he can play that for that amount
of minutes, but also keep the same standard and momentum going,
you know in his play, keep it keep it going,
the energy going. It's that's amazing to do because some
forwards just can't do that. They'll just break down. But
he just keeps going. So and and for having someone
(42:41):
like that on your bench or you know, on the field,
you give your other forwards a break. They don't. They
can't do that. So it's yeah, no, honestly, Jackson Ford
very I'm giving him my best forward, my best forwards
at the moment, at the halfway mark of the NFL
season so far.
Speaker 2 (42:58):
All right, that yeah, I mean, yeah, we're saying his
praises every week, well deserved. Besspec I've gone off Metcalfe.
He's definitely he seems to have taken the you know,
taken this team, taken it by by two hands, and
he's righting the ball. I think he's a top try
score or if not, he's right up there. So taken. Yeah,
(43:21):
a lot of the you know, it's I think I
took him a whey. Well, I'll just sort of really
find his feet. But he seems to be in a
really good place at the moment, and he just every
week is getting better and better. So yeah, look Metcalf
for my bestpec.
Speaker 1 (43:33):
For me, it was a toss up between Metcalf and
and seeing k I just thought, you know, it's just
what he's done in the back, and I gave to
Metcalf too, because we're winning a lot of games on
the back of his brilliance. I mean we have defense
as well, you know, the whole team. It's a whole
team if it's a big team effort. But as I
alluded to before earlier, Metcalf has just grown every game,
(43:54):
he continues to grow, and he's taken his game to
another level where he's using he's actually being able to
manage the team on the field, which is what a
halfback does. And also the feeni is good that he's
good in the fens and he's good in his attack
is brilliant. I mean, he could probably improve his kicking
game a little bit more. As we all know, his
conversion rate isn't isn't the greatest. But you know, there's
(44:17):
nothing to be worried about. There's nothing to be worried
about at the moment. But other than that, you know,
that's the only criticism I have Luke mccap at the moment.
So he's and there's a there's there's a reason why
he's you know, he's leading the delims at the moment.
So yeah, Luke mccah's big back for me.
Speaker 2 (44:34):
Nice man, so most surprising. Next upma, I think I
love what I saw from him when we when he
plaid last year, but he's sort of has really brought
that to the next level. He's still only nineteen years old,
but he's playing like he's been around for so long
he had I don't know if you saw that post
(44:55):
mentioned if you have del Hellogan on the weekend, but
you know, you really realize how young he is when
you see that, and I mean, Hal can hardly helped
him with I wish i'd written down like the question
that he asked him because it was just he didn't
know what to say. You know, he was just like, oh,
you're on a dry screw in streak, how's that going?
(45:17):
Something like that. But yeah, I mean yeah, and I
mean you can see the boys in the background or
cracking out, you know, like the obviously he's founders. Yeah,
he just seems like he's in a really good place, loving,
loving his footy. But yeah, the level he's got to
so far this season has been so good. The next
bit to see him as a regular, you know, like
I thought that he might still be playing yourself, I
(45:38):
was cap coming in when they've got injuries and all that.
But you know, like I mean, he started about you know,
five us X games now and nobody nobody's questioning that.
So yeah, he's definitely been the most most surprising for
me this season.
Speaker 1 (45:52):
Yeah, on the same with you. I mean, you took
words right out of my mouth. I've got hello seem
as well for the same exact reasons you're saying. I
did see the in you. You can tell he's very nervous.
He obviously wasn't listening to Old Richard Beck on media
day when they you know, when they had met, when
they had media training, but no, I mean media training
or not. Sometimes I can't understand being in front of
(46:13):
a camera can be really we knew nerve wrecking, you know,
community nerve wrecking, and you know he was was in
help that his his teammates were giving you a little
stick behind him. But yeah, but the thing is that
it's an interview where people won't look at him and
just give him crap about it. They'll just laugh and
it'll be like a fun laugh and yeah, it'll be
just all it's all good, and you know, it's all
good and stuff and and so you know, and just
(46:33):
shows the innocence of them as well, you know, the
innocence of the hell A scene as well. But like
you said, a player that we all knew there was
up and coming, but the rise that he has come
from from last season to now where he was sort
of just showing glimpses of what he could do towards
the end of last season and then now now you know,
coming on the bench and then all of a sudden
injected into the starting line up because he's been playing
(46:54):
really well. You know, he deserves it and would he
would he be up for ROCKI of the played a
couple of games last year. But I've been told, I mean,
I've been hearing noise that he's he's still eligible for
Rookie of the Year because of the lack of games
he played last season. That's true or not.
Speaker 2 (47:10):
Yeah, I'm pretty sure. Yeah, there's an amount of games,
but I feel like it's about sucks for seven. So yeah,
I'm pretty sure that he is. But don't quote me
on there.
Speaker 1 (47:20):
If he is, then I'm pretty sure he's right up there.
I'm pretty right up there for rookie. Yeah, if he is,
If he is, if he is, if he's eligible for that.
Speaker 2 (47:27):
But yeah, probably Yeah, most improved up next. You've kind
of said it before with Jackson Ford, and he's my
my sleeks for most improved. I didn't even have him
in my seventeen at the start of the season, but now, yeah,
there's no way that you could not pick him. He's
(47:49):
just yeah, sort of rediscovered some for that form from
twenty twenty three. You know, obviously playing in the middle now,
but he just yeah, he's up there and and fronts
up against some of the biggest boys in the camp.
So love what I've saying from him, and I'm happy
to my words on that one. So yeah, Jackson forward,
Most improved for me? How you got Yep?
Speaker 1 (48:08):
Actually we all know and everything. Yep, we all know
he's a superstar. And I think that you know, you know,
he said the view injuries and stuff and it's taking
him a while just to come back into his own
but well, you know, like you you were saying before,
you know, you know, there was no really a lot
of mention about him. But he did a lot of
work on the game against the Sharks in the previous
(48:29):
game as well. He we've scored some tries there and
he's I think he's just starting to come back to
his best. And yeah, I think he's started to come
back to his best. I just believe that every game
is improving, getting back to a place where we know
he can be so dynamic and so devastating and so dangerous.
And I think that's why I'm giving him my Most
Improved because you know, he wasn't in the best of
(48:50):
form that we know that we know because we know
we know he has a we have a high standard
of him and he probably has a high standard himself,
and he's started to come back to that. So yeah,
Most Improved for me would be our ts.
Speaker 2 (49:03):
Yeah, I love that, bro. I think I sort of
mentioned it before, Like I think a lot of it's
been moving from the scentier out to the lid again.
You know, I think it's seen. He just didn't have
the room to sort of move around, and but he
just looks so good. He's running for about two hundred
meters a game at the moment, and he looked so
hard to tackle, just like he looked so slippery, and
and yeah, he's I'm loving what I'm saying from him.
(49:24):
So it's a great shot now to the to the
MVP title. I gave it to when we first did it,
I gave it to Aaron Clapp, and I'm going to
give it to Iaron Clapp. Still, I think he's Yeah,
I've absolutely just yeah, blown away by Happid he's been
I sort of mentioned that haven't been my best forward,
but I think he's been huge, more consistent player this season.
(49:48):
You know, he's running running through about one hundred and
sixty hundred and seventy meters a game, consistently, forty forty
five fifty tackles a game, just putting up huge stats
and off not huge mounts only played about fifty minutes
on the weekend and still managed to get one hundred
and seventy round meters, so and he got the offload
to to meet Calf to see up there, right. So
(50:08):
it's just there's so many elements of his game and
we just we're seeing more more of it of developers
the season goes on. So he's my my MVP for
the season.
Speaker 1 (50:19):
So that yep, Aeron Clark as well, that's the reason
why I didn't have him as best forward to thought.
I was, yeah, that's my name is best forward because
he was my MVP. Same reasons she's just been by
the season is and that's been echoed again not just
with us, but not just Warriors fans as well, but
other you know, rugby league personalities. Just saying Aaron Clark,
he's definitely the buyer of the season and he's just
(50:41):
you know, you just just again you took the words
out of my mouth and everything that you're saying is
just so so the quality that he is of a
player and what he's doing on the field, he makes
a difference when he's on the field, he makes a
difference for our forward pack and just the team in general,
and the drive that he gets a lot of the
drive that he gets and the momentum that he brings
with him. It's laying a platform for our for our
(51:04):
backs to do something, you know, like for Luke Metcalf
to do something. So it's just it's just awesome. Yeah,
I'm glad. I'm definitely glad that he's come to the Warriors.
Come back to the Warriors. So MVP for at the
halfway stage of the twenty twenty five Premiership you're in Clark, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (51:19):
Yeah, and we'll see if we see him at the
you know, the official wallem ceremony into the year. Yep,
I honestly wouldn't to see him, you know, Jelim lock
of the Year. I sort of didn't really catch up
with where he was going. But there's not a lock
on the game I can think of that would consistently
been scoring points that he is. I feel like sometimes yeah, yeah, yeah,
it's a thing like you as a l and those
(51:41):
sort of players like not even them. I feel like
you've probably been games where he should have got points
and maybe didn't, you know, like because yeah, Jelim, sometimes
I'll go a bit more fleshy, but yeah, I mean,
just the hard work he puts in. So it'd be
cool to yeah, see him get rewarded for just yea
a breakthrough season. Man. Some tips, no Warriors games to
(52:06):
look forward to this weekend, but there's five games on yeah, yeah,
before we go.
Speaker 1 (52:11):
Into the tips, but I just wanted to ask you
a couple of minutes just to talk about Kurt cap Well.
He knew today that he had made the State of
Origin Queensland team. He'd been recalled yesterday. There were there
was some reports going around that he didn't jump on
the plane back to New Zealand with the with his
other Warriors teammates. So that was a big sign that
obviously he has gonna be picked. And honestly, I'm goin
(52:31):
to be more happier for cape Well. I think he
deserves it. His his form club form of late has
been That's what That's what got him, you know, back
in back selected for Queensland because he's been playing his
centers and he's been doing a putting up a matter
of effort, and he can the thing the fact that
he can play second role as well, which is his
main position, but also can play center. It's it's he's
(52:53):
going to be. He's a he's a handy person to
have on your side. And I'm glad that he's made
it back in because I actually thought he would have
made the fel I actually thought he would have made
the first Origin.
Speaker 2 (53:02):
Game.
Speaker 1 (53:03):
And that's not being me being biased. I just thought
he earned his right to be there. You know he was,
he was in there last year. But you know, Queensland
got you know, sort of demolished in that first game,
were all over. The new south Wales look very strong.
To be honest, I'm okay, I'm a queens And supporter.
U South Wales look really strong. But the other thing
this one is a big news of Queensland because they're
(53:24):
the only ones that named their team at the moment.
Speaker 2 (53:25):
Is that Deli Terry was just the team.
Speaker 1 (53:29):
Oh did they? Okay I didn't.
Speaker 3 (53:30):
See that, just like like ten minutes before we recorded. Yeah, sorry, okay,
that's why didn't see it. I was, you know, putting
the baby down, so I didn't see that anyway. Yeah,
but I'm sure they've got a strong team there.
Speaker 1 (53:43):
But yeah, no for me, Deli Terry Evan's gone four
years being the captain as well, so the Edens in
but anyway, we're not talking about then, we're talking about Kate. Well,
how aldome is it to see Kate Will being rewarded
for his form?
Speaker 2 (53:59):
Yeah? Bro awesome, Yeah, well well deserved. You know, it
really brings springs a bit of utility. You know, I
think he's proven the season. And I sort of said
before like when he's when we first sort of started
playing them in the centers, I was like, what are
you doing? You know, there's enough outside back depth that
we can afford to sort of you know, like get
someone else in there. But yeah, I mean he steps
(54:22):
up and does obviously not the fastest, fastest into around,
but it's fast enough and and like solid defensively and
just cool. Cool to see him get acknowledged. I think.
I don't know if you saw the video and the
Warriors social media today, but they had a video of
Jurie Webster saying, you know, boys capes caps fame with
(54:42):
Queensland and it was Chance next to him and he's
like shaking them like you know, and you hear the
remember wrapped, so obviously they yeah, obviously they love them
and the and the and the team and the club
and you know we're still was like oh you know,
I hope you. I hope you have a good game,
a man of the match and losing sight or something
like that. Love a bit of love, a bit of
(55:03):
beans like that. That just sums up the whole state
of origin very very well. But yeah, well deserved. I
thought I generally thought it would have been. Yeah, in
the first game, I think that with this form. There
was a few pretty weird selections in that game, so
it'd being to see how it goes. Obviously it's game
two's in New South Wales, so in Sydney, so the
(55:28):
Bluer sorry, yeah, yeah, but I imagine the Blues all,
you know, get the job done. But they seem to
be pretty good at stuff and stuffing things up when
they're in the situation, and that historically as a Blues
fan myself been used to that. So yeah, yeah, the
(55:49):
Chieven's one is an interesting one. Interesting to see how
it all plays out. Isra has been called in is
sort of like you know, back up half the cover
as well, just to sort of rub some souls from
the wounds. So I'm sure there'll be a few salty,
salty Queensland fans about that. But you know, from watching
game one. They need all they make all the changes
they can because they were pretty atrocious. Bro. Like, I
(56:11):
know you're Queensland fan, but you've got to mat they
were pretty horrendous in their first game. They should have
probably lost, was lost by forty.
Speaker 1 (56:17):
Yeah, yeah, it was embarrassing. But yeah but anyway, mate,
look as you as you said, there's no there's no
game for the Warriors this week. There' see a lot
of buyers this weekend coming up, so there's only a
few handful of games. So you want to take us
through the games, mate, and then will wrap it up
from there.
Speaker 2 (56:32):
Sounds good man? Yeah, just five games on Sharks Dragons
fist up on on Thursday night. Sharks can they? Can
they back up from that? To my lasting at the
hands of the Warriors, I.
Speaker 1 (56:46):
Think so because obviously they don't have any origin players,
do they So they don't have any origin players, so
no one is going to be out, but neither I
don't think even the Dragons. I think they've got Valentine
homes and only home origin origin player there, so I
think I'll still give to the Sharks. Dragons were atrocious
on the weekend. They got to I think they got
beat in by good or fifty points by dolphins. So yeah,
(57:10):
I'll give it to the Sharks, not because I think
they're great or anything, just because I think that they're
just the dragons are just pathanic at the moment.
Speaker 2 (57:16):
So yeah, dragons are real mud. Yeah, I can't pick
with dragons at the moment, especially shark. Sharks should should
be good enough. Thailand's Seagulls up next. Yeah, it's two.
Speaker 1 (57:27):
Humans were playing for mainly I'm assuming in this game.
Speaker 2 (57:30):
Yeah, exactly, it's a bigin. But again, I'll give it
to the Seagulls for me. Mate, your Titans have been without,
you know, and for the week. Yeah, so yeah, I'll
go to Seagles as well. Nights Roasters Roosters obviously pizza
players out, but last time they just you know, they
played on an origin around day beat the Sharks by
(57:53):
thirty points, so you know they've got quite an out
out will be out for the nights. Yeah. I like
the Roosters here me too.
Speaker 1 (58:05):
I'll go Roosters. I'm just yeah, I don't think the
lights are capital in them, to be honest.
Speaker 2 (58:10):
Cowboys Dolphins. Cowboys have obviously always got a few few
origin players out and the Dolphins. You're coming off that
hot one against the against the Dragons last week.
Speaker 1 (58:21):
I like the Dolphins here, Yeah, me too, I like Dolphins.
Speaker 2 (58:26):
And Rebtos Dogs. To finish it off, can the rebit
still with the Warriors of Favor and and bring the
Dogs down? So we go to first equal with the Raiders.
Speaker 1 (58:34):
Well, well, I was hoping that the Rebels would take
the Raiders down and you give it to us a hand,
give us a hand there, but you know that didn't happen.
Looked all right, I'm gonna I'm gonna pick them again,
just against the Bulldogs again in the hope that you know,
it gives us a better, better better placing on the letters.
I'll go Rebertos's pro.
Speaker 2 (58:56):
I'll go Dogs, just to mix it up. I think
we've got the same team for all other four games.
So yeah, that's that's clipping for around fifteen.
Speaker 1 (59:06):
All right. Well, look, we've been nearly going on hour now,
so it's been some good chat there, mate, brilliant brilliant chair.
There's been a lot to talk about though. This Warrior
Warriors game. We can go on all night about, you know,
about their game. How honestly, it's one of the best performances.
I've seen the play when the Warriors paying a long time.
I'm talking years here, I'm talking years. So yeah, brilliant,
brilliant performance on the Warriors. But we'll wrap it up
