podcast rarn Are you ready? Or the Amazing Spider Man
set review. It's time Marvel is coming to Magic the
Gathering and we're going to talk about Commander because Standard
is absolutely.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Could hold on, let me do my quick uh Adrin,
Wait what's his name?
Speaker 1 (00:49):
Bb Order?
Speaker 2 (00:50):
How much is he going for? These days? So?
Speaker 1 (00:54):
No, no, no, before you look, don't react yet, don't
react yet. I'm not kidding. Just a little Standard app
on why we're doing Commander that of Standard. So Wizards
has announced a change to the Standard ban announcement which
is scheduled for November twenty fourth, it has been pushed
(01:14):
up to November tenth. That isn't that amazing.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Before the Avatar set comes out?
Speaker 1 (01:20):
Now they have also they didn't say they're doing it,
but they basically confirmed that they're taking action against VV
on that day.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Okay, So, as the price dropped accordingly because of that
announced well announcement in quotations, alleged announcement.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Let's check it out. Yeah, let's check it out. What
how's VV doing? How does the market feel about a
card that's basically pre banned pre banned? Oh my god,
it is plummeted. It is plummeted regular VV, like the
cheap version is like sixty dollars.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Yeah you cat.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
Oh my yeah, it was sixty. Now it's down to thirty.
Oh my god.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
That's good. That's good. That's good. I mean, that's not
going to fix on arena though, unfortunately for you.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
But hey, a wildcard's a wild card. I'm okay with this.
But also, best of one's standard is oddly fine. Nobody
plays VV in Best of One's standard. Not nobody, but
a very small percentage for some reason. I'm not sure why. Why? Oh,
because the the only deck this is true, VV like
rose to like seventy percent of the day two meta
(02:29):
something absurd. Somebody leave in comments the deck that won
the tournament Mono red. The only deck that beats VV
without monstrous Rage, without the stupid mouse is still Mono red.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
You can never run from it. It's always going to
be there for you. That's so funny.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
So in best of one we have Mono red, so
we have no vv.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Oh my god, well, godspeed manift the gift that keeps
on giving.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
So today instead, what we're going to do is review that.
I want to show you the Spiderman cards, I want
to show you the altarts. I want to talk pre
order pricing, and I also want very much to pitch
you the cards for Commander. So I'll be showing you
cards and then giving you some commander kind of like
we'll say, window dressing. Is this exciting? I just want
(03:23):
you to tell me, would you play this? Commander's That's
that's what you are here to do. Tell me if
this is your jam, if this is your commander, Yeah,
it's gonna be fun. Let's start with I guess the
everybody's favorite or maybe not. The coverg podcast is brought

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Peter Parker, Oh that's okay. So I'm gonna imagine because
that has a little flip thing that it turns into
Spider Man. I'm just taking a gas, just taking a
little little gas. Here, one neutral, one white. When Peter
Parker enters, create a two to one green spider creature
took him with reach for one green, white blue, transform
Peter Parker activate only as a source rates at zero one. Yeah,
(04:22):
happen to see that the transformation. Oh here you go.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
Hey.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
That means that if you put Peter Parker as your commander,
you can use white, green, blue. Interesting, Yes, that's right.
So this is the amazing Spider Man. Like that. I
like that how the art looks like he's like actually
swinging with momentum. It's nice vigilance reach. Each legendary spell
you cast that's one or more colors has web slinging
(04:51):
that is green, white, and blue. You may cast a
spell for its web slinging cost if you also return
a top creature you control to its owner. So that
means like, if I spend green, white, blue, that then
the web slinging world proc.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
If you spend green, white and blue, you can cast
the spell that is legendary and as part of that cost,
you have to return tap creature to owner's hand. Yep,
it's not a trigger, it's a cast. Maybe a subtle
difference there, but basically you gain the ability to put
it on the stack for that price.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
But like in essence, it is manaiteating as long as
oh yeah, that's actually extremely interesting. So Peter Parker is
a pretty cheap commander. And then you're obviously begin running
a deck that has all those man of cars or colors. Anyways,
you are basically spending a whole turn hoping that this
card does not yet removed. Though that's a lot of mana.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
So there is a rules change. We have a rules
change to announce here on the show. For the Amazing
Spider Man set with a double sided command or such
as this one, you may cast it from the command
zone on either side if you can pay the cost
for that. So like you can cast the Amazing Spider
Man for four, you don't have to play Peter Parker
then spend another four to flip it.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Well, that is fantastic, it is, it's amazing, like you
that's a huge change. Does that retroactively work with every
other commander?
Speaker 1 (06:21):
And that is a good question. I'm trying to think
of what else that would work with. It's interesting because
it has to have the man of cost on the
other side, you know what I mean. See how the
Amazing Spider Man has a man of value. Yeah, most
of the flip cards of the past have no man
of value up there. Therefore, Oh no, they would not
be castable in such a fashion.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
Oh no, I gotta tassling. I I got look like antar.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
Ah, you're jumping ahead. You're jumping ahead. I see you.
I hate No, that's that's real. That's a real question.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
Hold on, you would have it one of them?
Speaker 1 (07:01):
Nope, doesn't, doesn't it doesn't.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
Heaven. Oh, that's such an interesting specific require. I guess
it makes sense because the bang uh flip is actually disgusting,
so they probably don't want that in the game. That's
a cool little balancing technique, though, I kind of a
commend them for that strategy. That means if they feel
like they want you to actually I mean, no one's.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
Playing this for Peter Parker, so nobody.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
Nobody's playing this, So you're playing this for Spider You
want people to be like, yeah, my commander is going
to be Spider Man. Which is awesome if I don't
know how people feel about that in your your game,
but I feel like, compared to Final Fantasy, this one
is extremely out there. It's kind of maybe a little
bit more of a toasile. What's the general consensus on
Spider Man in the Magic community? They for it?
Speaker 1 (07:47):
Like, do people like Spider Man?
Speaker 2 (07:50):
Yeah? God, this is specifically and not specifically.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
So that's that's really tough because I think the loudest
people are going to be the entrenched who are going
to say they don't like Spider Man. And I think
that the people who like Spider Man aren't jumping into
the Magic community in places like Twitter and on Reddit
and commenting about Spider Man in Magic. So is it
the silent majority? It definitely could be, but I don't know. Well,
(08:18):
we'll have to find out. Yeah, I think in the
Magic community you're much more likely to find people who
do not like it than like it. But I think
that's ignoring a lot of the audience.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
Yeah, I talked to you. I was talking to Krim
the other day and he seemed like he was no
person for this.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
Seriously, if you talk to Krim, yes, this is the
greatest thing that's ever happened to the game. Krim is
such a Marvel fanboy it's insane. He doesn't even like
Spider Man, but he likes the villains of Spider Man.
He's yeah, he's over the moon, and all the Crims
out there are super excited.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
Yes, yeah, I feel like well for the amazing Spider Man.
I'm sure there's other copies of him, because that's what
magic kind of does. But this one actually looks like
it's pretty fun, and I think this is like a
forum or Mana like. This is maybe a little expensive
for like the Mana teating to really start going, but
if it does live one turn like it is kind
(09:12):
of great. No, I'm sure you'll have something on board
that you can turn back to your hand and you'd
be happy for it. Does it have to be a
non land or not have to be a creature?
Speaker 1 (09:20):
It has to be a tapped creature, but there are
some as far as pitching you to the commander. There
are both a number of ways to tap your creatures
for value, like vehicles or the planets from edge of eternities,
or there are creatures that tap to do things like
even make Mana like Mana dorks that cost one mana.
Like Birds of Paradise, you can you can make the
mana with the creature and return the creature to put
(09:42):
out whatever make up the biggest, most awesome legendary thing
you can.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
Yeah, I think I don't know. He's pretty cool. I
would I have to see, like the I'm not a
huge Spider Man person likes his eye when it comes
to the superheres for me, but I think I'm more
like Krim. I'd be more curious to see how they
do the villains and all right.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
Not buying in, not buying in on the amazing.
Speaker 2 (10:03):
Spider Man do Like if you're asking me, like, how
good do I think it would be in Commander? I
think it has potential. My worry is is that you're
going to play this for four and if you don't
have the additional AMNA immediately it kind of does nothing
and that feels kind of whatever. So then you're going
to have to recast it again with the Commander attack.
So it might be slightly slow or you're you're waiting
(10:24):
quite a bit until the point where it's like the
man a cheating that you would get is probably not
as relevant, is as if you cast him early and
he lived, so it's a little bit. It's I think
it's a good design card for people who are like
not Superman maxers, and I think that's probably what their
target audience is, right, Like they just want the cashules
to complay Spider Man and Magic.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
Yeah, like the sweaty players are probably going to kill
this is what you're saying.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
I don't think you're playing this in like competitive commander whatsoever,
but it's it will be fun for the people who
want to play Spider Man.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
That's okay. Let's do the all art review and see
if that changes your mind.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
I think they know. Okay, okay, So they're going for
like the comic book aesthetic almost with the art very much.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
In fact, this isn't for sure. I can't confirm this,
but I'm confident they have the rights to the comic
books but not the movies.
Speaker 2 (11:21):
That makes sense. I think That's what crim said to me.
Actually like a different division. It looks good. Fine, I'm
kind of fine. I'm kind of okay with this art.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
Yeah, all right, how about this one? How about this?
We got a winner?
Speaker 2 (11:35):
That's I think that looks sick as hell. Oh man,
they see like I love the Spider Man on the back, like,
I think that looks so good. I love how it
looks like a comic Oh, that looks amazing.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
I hate it so much, really, I hate it. I
hate it a while ago. Which is a magic card.
It looks like some secret Layers stuff.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
It's the Altar man. Let them have the I let
them have it.
Speaker 1 (12:02):
I just don't. I don't know why. It's fine, It's fine, all.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
Right, So dude, I mean again, we had this discussion when.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
You did like the we did?
Speaker 2 (12:09):
Is it? I think it's extremely impressive, how how good
it looks as like a comic book. It all also
gives you every relevant information you need for the card,
like that is so well done.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
But why why? Why do we have the Fantastic for what?
Why are the Fantastic for on here? Why where did
that come from? What's going on? Is that the next set?
Is this the tease? Is that just what service? Why
does it say twelve cents? Do you want to know
the Is this false advertising? Do you want to know
the real price of this card?
Speaker 2 (12:41):
Sure? What is it?
Speaker 1 (12:43):
As of today? The sets not out It's the tenth
of September. The current pre order price of This card
is two hundred and twenty dollars.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
It's kind of steep. What's kind of steep?
Speaker 1 (12:57):
That's a bit much, but it's not. It's not twelve cents.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
Is that more than Final Fantasy though?
Speaker 1 (13:05):
So it depends on the card, but no. The pre
order prices on Final Fantasy were also absolutely wild and
have since cooled off for most cards, but it's it's
been an interesting ride for Final Fantasy. We could do
a whole show on that. Some have gone up, but yeah,
it is. This is probably going to be the rarest
and most sought after version of the card because of
(13:26):
the comic book aesthetic.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
For sure, I think it looks nice. I'm a big.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
Fan, not your Commander, but heck of a good looking card.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
All the cards you're showing me have that Commander aesthetic?
Are the comic book aesthetic or not?
Speaker 1 (13:41):
All of them?
Speaker 2 (13:42):
Not all of them?
Speaker 1 (13:42):
Sorry? In fact, this one that I don't believe I
have one of those to show you, but check out.
People are pretty excited about this.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
Think of who the fuck is Anti venom?
Speaker 1 (13:54):
Oh, there are a number of characters. I have no
idea who they are. I am not a Spider Man
knowledgeable person. Where's Krim. I don't know. I can't help
you with that.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
Yeah, okay, Anti Venom is a horrifying healer for five whites,
five whitey five white. With this, when Anti Venom enters,
if he was cast return target creature from your graver
to the battlefold. I'm just clarifying this. If you are,
I guess you're casting him from the commands, and so
(14:24):
that that would count you play him as a commander.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
If damage would be dealt to Anti Venom, prevent the
damage and put that many plus one plus one counters
on him. Oh, that is an interesting line of text.
That is, that's annoying to deal with, But I'm sure
there's multiple ways in Commander where that wouldn't be as frustrating.
That also means that like it could block against anything
(14:50):
right and never die and only absorbed.
Speaker 1 (14:54):
Yeah, that's what that means.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
How good is only white? In Commander?
Speaker 1 (15:01):
How good is only white? It would have been the
worst color like six seven years ago. Now it's considered
pretty good. Now it's considered pretty darn good.
Speaker 2 (15:11):
So I think if you're playing this, you're basically playing
it for a five man of return a card from
the graveyard.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
What if I show you some synergy? Do you want
to see some synergy? Sure it is the little Rafral.
This is Commander. All right, this is Commander. We got
to make up the bestest synergy.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
With great power three neutral one whites Chatman A chanting
creature control can't control chant of creature is good plus
two plus you for each aura and equipment attached to
all damage that would be dealt to you is dealt
to enchanted creature instead. Ooh, so that's that's the center.
I mean that that is a cool combo. I'm just
(15:52):
a little nervous that there's too much removal and commander
for this to be really that good. Do you think
they're going to remove the creature instead of yeah, you
would ignore the the chatman for like, you show me
cards that are just like remove x amount of creatures
off the board, are like destroy creature that has this
(16:12):
much an amount attack, right, Like, I feel like dealing
damage is not the only way you can you can
deal with a card like this, And because it's five
mana like, it's a little it's a little slow. But
then that's what I'm saying, Well, you probably play this
specifically for the first text, not the not the actual
like plus one plus one counters that is.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
What if the removal, though, is damage based, Well.
Speaker 2 (16:34):
Then you're crying, but I mean you yeah, you can't
deal it. Of course, you can't deal with everything. But
I think it's like too it's too cute almost, And
that's my issue again. I think it's really hold on,
what is anti venom Spider Man?
Speaker 1 (16:53):
Wait? The lore is what you're going to look up
to try to solve this.
Speaker 2 (16:56):
I'm curious to see, Like, what is this thing?
Speaker 1 (16:58):
Is? What's this deal?
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Actually it's a hero. He's supposed to be poisonous to
Semios due to how mister negative powers affect. Okay, it
didn't help me at all.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
Still don't get it. Yeah, now we have three other
things to look up.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
He's just the reverse venom. Okay, he's like the It's
okay what I don't know anyways, don't worry about I
think it's slow. Again. I think it's slow. Maybe in
my cute little Commander pod. We'll play it. But I
don't know if it's actually that competitive either, which is
maybe bad. But it's cute, like it's it's kind of
(17:40):
a cool thing.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
So would you be surprised to learn that at least
it's very early. You know, everything's just been announced, but
right now, according to media Trek, this is the most
built commander in the set, built well, like built online,
like people like throwing decks together and making deckless online.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
Okay, is it about to say that I think building
an all white commander is much easier than I'm multi
colored on.
Speaker 1 (18:04):
No, No, that's that's fair. I mean maybe it's like
they can bang that deck list out in thirty minutes
instead of the half hour plus like than like forty
to fifty minutes it takes them to make a multi
colored mana base and consider other choices.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
That's what I'm thinking, because I feel like, again, like
he I feel like people will play this specifically just
for the first paragraph, Like the first paragraph is probably
pretty good. I don't even know if white has like
a resurrect I if they're on your commander, that's pretty decent.
Feels like you're you'd be happy to play that.
Speaker 1 (18:33):
It has a couple of them, but it doesn't have
a lot of ways to get things in the graveyard.
You need good artifacts to do the job for you.
Speaker 2 (18:38):
Okay, Well, then that makes people probably more excited because
then it's like, oh, like this finally White has a
good way of doing it. I don't even know if
this is good though, five mana a little.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
I mean I think if you do the thing, if
you reanimate a big thing with it, I think that's
very good.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
Like that rate is very good. Oh then you're chilling
you AT's get a five to five? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (18:59):
Okay, all right, last chance, last chance to anti venom.
What do you think of this altimart?
Speaker 2 (19:05):
It looks kind of goofy know?
Speaker 1 (19:08):
Yeah, what's going on with the fase? What's with the
long eyelashes or whatever?
Speaker 2 (19:14):
I just feel like the art doesn't look like it's.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
And the shoulder pads. What is this? The Legion of
Doom is a professional wrestling going on?
Speaker 2 (19:25):
Okay, hold on, I need Laura antived him. Hold on,
I really I never really figure out what the hell
this is doing.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
Dude, you're into the character. We'll give it.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
That one of the things I'm really excited for. I'm
sure Final Fantasy nerds were like this, where they when
Magic was realing what the card does, like you got
to compare it to what it is in the actual games, right,
And I will do that one hundred percent with Avatar,
because I'm very curious to see how they designed specific
cards in the I know, like for Magic for example,
like they decided to do black for the Fire Nation,
(19:55):
which is extremely interesting, instead of ripe. So it's like,
what what is the flavor and design behind that? Where
it's like, I don't know anything about this guy. So
does he actually max or match the absorbed thing? Probably
they did their research. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (20:09):
It says it has flavor text you are a sickness
on this city. I am the cure. There you go,
see one more?
Speaker 2 (20:16):
Do you need? Really really tells it all, really tells them.
I'm not huge out of this one. That the art
is not really spicy. There's no comic book one for this.
I guess he's not really a main character from We've
never seen him before.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
No, I don't have any comic book card for you
on this one. You know what, we need more colors.
Let's be real, we need more colors.
Speaker 2 (20:35):
I agree, here you go, more colors cosmic.
Speaker 1 (20:43):
Just so you know as we go. The term Spider Man,
I believe is on like forty some cards out of
one hundred and eighty in the set, Like there are
so many Spider Man the title like the name of
the card.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
Yes, oh oh, that's going to get.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
Confusing, or at least Spider person is on so many cards. Yes, okay,
go ahead.
Speaker 2 (21:03):
Cosmic Spider Man is white blue against it's all colors.
It's all colors. We call that again when it's all
colors like a wogg. That is cra Okay, flying first strike,
trample lifelink haste, any of your beginning of comment on
your turn other spiders to control a game, Flying first strike,
trample lifelink haste until he ud inturned. Is it's gonna
(21:25):
sound like maybe a stupid question? I'm gonna ask how
common are spiders outside of the Spider Man said, I mean.
Speaker 1 (21:34):
We have some. They are not usually known for attacking.
The spider type in magic is mostly known for the
abilities of reach and death touch and having toughness bigger
than their power.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
Okay, so this is just complete cynergy synergy with like
Spider Man cards.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
Yeah, okay, you can play all the Spider Man with
Cosmic Spider Man. Does that sound fun to you? You
can open your box, your collector box that you're very
pumped about, and you can just play everything in it.
Speaker 2 (22:07):
With Cosmic Spider Man Man, I feel like I'm the
wrong person for this video because both of us are
gonna have been Max. We're like, I.
Speaker 1 (22:15):
Don't get it either.
Speaker 2 (22:16):
I'm the casual Spider Man person and be like, oh
my god, because if I'm comparing this to anti vetom, like,
I think i'd know that I'm anti vet him even
with all the even though he's only white, I think
he's just a better card.
Speaker 1 (22:28):
But more colors, more colors.
Speaker 2 (22:31):
Right, or as somebody who doesn't even really understand how
good that really is. Okay, it feels like splashing into
every color sounds great until you realize that you need
a very particular mana base to even play this card.
Yeah yeah, and then.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
Yeah, probably like a five hundred dollars manna base.
Speaker 2 (22:48):
Yeah. And then it's like, even if you got all five,
is this even really that good?
Speaker 1 (22:53):
It's just kind of how many spiders you have? Do
you have all the spiders, then it's really good.
Speaker 2 (22:58):
It's kind of like like you they're gonna play five,
then you go okay, and then you remove it and
then like they're like no.
Speaker 1 (23:08):
Yeah, yeah. So it's also I think harder because it
really depends, Like I think this when you have to
look at the whole set in.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
Its entirety to really give you like context of how
good this will probably be.
Speaker 1 (23:21):
I mean, that's fair enough. If you see enough spider
characters you want to play, then you know that you
have a cosmic Spider Man to play them, So there
is the exact But no, I still don't say that
where you're the wrong person. I think this is exactly
the experience a lot of people have when they are
magic players looking at Spider Man more casually and being like,
(23:43):
oh my god, everything is spiders everything is spider Man. Yeah,
that's this set. That's how this set works.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
Interesting. Now you've got to be curious to see what
the entire set looks like, because I thought Spider Man
would like I've seen every Spider Man movie. Maybe you
have too, but like, I feel like there's enough characters
in those movies where they wouldn't have to repeat Spider
Man that many times. But I guess I've just never
read a comic book for Spider Man specifically, so I
have no idea how many Spider Mans there actually are.
(24:09):
I guess there's the multiverse. Yeah, yeah, the Spider I
mean across the Spider verse, there's like fucking how many.
So I guess it makes a little bit more sense.
Speaker 1 (24:18):
Interesting, Hey, we can take a break, we can get
we can do some villains can do some villains. You
want to do a villain, you're a little non Maybe
you're more of a villain guy.
Speaker 2 (24:27):
I am a villain guy. Actually, I don't know about you,
but I always low key root for the villains of
the superhero movies. They're always I feel like, in my
mind it is much more intriguing if the super villain
is winning, because then then I have to wrap my
head around the fact, like how do they how does
the hero actually beat this? Unless like they just do
some stupid ass monologue and then they just dil like that.
(24:50):
Then it makes me upset.
Speaker 1 (24:51):
But then when it's barely an inconvenience, it's not okay,
It's okay.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
Mister negative. Okay, So the only you play Marble snot no, sir.
Nagative was one of my favorite cards in Marvel stam.
He had a cool effect. His effect was, uh, swap
the man cost with the character's attack every creature. It
was really funny.
Speaker 1 (25:11):
Maybe maybe Magua did show me mister negative, I did
some guessing games for Marvel Snap and I don't remember.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
It was cool. Yeah, mister negative five Neutral one, White one, Black,
Vigilance and lifelength dark Horse inversion. Mister negative enters, you
may exchange life totals with target opponent. If you lost
life this way, draw that many cards FI five. Okay,
(25:38):
hold on, you make sense life totals with a target opponent.
That's an incredibly interesting line of text. You you want
to draw with this? Oh my god, at most you're
drawing what thirty nine? If you're at forty, and if
you're a one and there at forty.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
If you stop your life till little one, Yes, you
can try thirty nine cards unless you gained life. You
could just gain a bunch of life first.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
That is such a cool card. That one has a
lot of sauce. So many ways you can utilize that.
Oh my god, I actually think that one's really cool.
I don't know if it's that good. Seven Nana like,
it's such a your opponent has to be so aware
of what's happening with that card.
Speaker 1 (26:28):
It's in the command zone it and you have three opponents,
so I want to know your opinion on this Okay,
what is the right way to play against this card?
Speaker 2 (26:41):
Nor did hope for the best?
Speaker 1 (26:45):
That's why we have you on the show. Okay, okay,
you put yourself in the mind of somebody who's trying
way too hard to win a game of casual Commander.
What is the right way to play this card? It's
a good question.
Speaker 2 (27:04):
I think in casual Commander, you're not doing enough or
this card's not going to be a threat the whole time, right,
Like you're you're the problem. It's not a problem. It's
depending on how people. I don't know how people feel
about this, but this card is extremely hard to manage.
If you get them too low, then it's like at
seven man and they're gonna swap yep. If you don't
go for them, then they're just kind of vibing because
(27:26):
they don't have to. It says you may exchange life
totals with the target opponent. It's also like the political
aspect that this card is so intriguing is then you
could be to like you one of your friends, like, hey,
what if I swap help with him and then you
kill him next turn? What I mean? Then it's like
there's a whole yes, I don't know this car's this
card's cool. I hope, I hope it's playable. I think,
(27:46):
like in terms of content for YouTube, this is like
a dream case scenario card the people who are not
like outright mid maxim because it's probably not good enough
to be played in competitive, but like for the people
who want the politics and like working with someone else,
this is such an intriguing card.
Speaker 1 (28:04):
It really is. I wish it were playable in Standard.
Maybe if you reanimated it's playable in the Standard, because
it would be absolutely wild in Commander. So this is
an enter's ability, right, So you can reanimate it cheaply
to get the effect in like standard in Command, or
you can blink it. So there are a lot of
(28:25):
effects that are like one, two or three manna to
exol a creature. It's especially effective when they try to
kill it and you play one of these effects and
then it just comes right back and you do it again.
Speaker 2 (28:37):
Thank God. Yeah, it's cool. I think it's like one
of the It's one of those cards that gets your
like brain turning. There's so many things you can do
with it. This should be a very enjoyable card for
a lot of people. I hope and hope.
Speaker 1 (28:49):
Yeah, would you build mister Negative? Would you plays negative?
Speaker 2 (28:53):
I also think from what I understand from his lore
and Marvel Snap as well, like this is pretty accurate
to what he would do, which is kind of nice.
That's also I think, well, we just learned that anti
Venom is actually from mister Negative. So it's interesting. Vedam
wants to consume anti Venam wants to heal.
Speaker 1 (29:10):
Interesting. Interesting, So mister Negative. I don't know anything about
this character. Maybe it's going to be in a future movie.
Because I'm just a Spider Man movie enjoyer. This is like,
to me, the coolest card. This is the reason we're
doing a like. This is the reason I chose a
Commander review because I wanted to talk about this card.
And in standard it's just like a seven mana. You know,
(29:31):
you're already dead. It's like not a good conversation. But Commander,
the effect this has on the game is kind of amazing.
I've seen well, let's just say I know some things.
I can't talk a lot about about how this affects games,
and there's been there's different approaches. We'll say that and
(29:54):
some players, some players might say try to keep everybody's
life total about the same to minimize the effects they all.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
That is insanely difficult to do. Like that is, yeah,
the pial, but that's.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
The political like the politics of that, right, because somebody
eventually is going to break that deal. Right, It's kind
of like we all don't attack each other in a way,
or we all only attack to keep it this way,
or we try to keep our lives the same, but
then somebody tries to win and it all goes wrong.
Speaker 2 (30:22):
Right, It's amazing, it's I think it's a yeah, I
agree with you. Super fun card, super super fun card.
Definitely one of the probably the most interesting one you
show me so far in terms of Commander.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
Let's do another very interesting little guy.
Speaker 2 (30:37):
Maybe there's hope in standard for something, but maybe that's
after like VV gets and.
Speaker 1 (30:43):
Mister negative standard, what if you use mister what if
you use VV to cast mister negative?
Speaker 2 (30:48):
There you go, and it sounds horrible because you're probably
winning the give other ways. I don't think you need that.
Norman Osborne, Okay, so this is green Goblin. One wait,
what if this turns on green Goblin? How is he
fucking not green? Whatsoever? What the hell okay, hold on
scam one neutral, one blue. He can't be blocked. Whatever
(31:10):
this deal is combat damage to a player he connives
you draw a card, then discard a card. If you
discarded a non land card, put a plus one plus
one counter on this creature. Okay, it's I mean okay.
The transform is one blue, black red. He transforms to normal,
just transforms. Okay, So he turns to the green Goblin. Yes, yep,
(31:33):
very weird. He's not green.
Speaker 1 (31:35):
I'm gonna be honest, but can't handle it. The word
is green and it's not green. How can we do this?
Speaker 2 (31:42):
I just I mean green Goblin is maybe he doesn't
just fit the green color, like in terms of like
what they what they're going for. He's a very weird character.
One neutral, one blue, one black, one red. Lying menace.
Spells you cast from your graveyard costs too less to
cast Goblin formula. Each non land card in your graveyard
(32:07):
has mayhem. The mayhem cost is equal to its manna cost.
Ask the card from your graveyard for its maym cost
if you discard it this turn ooh m, do you
have to say you can? You can cast him as
green gold? Are you ever playing him? As Norman Osbourne,
maybe you have nothing to do on Turned two.
Speaker 1 (32:28):
There's also so there's also a bit of a synergy
there of like if you don't have another way to
discard a card, then you can attack with Norman. You
can discard a card with the canive, you can transform
into green Goblin, and then you get a two man
out reduction on the cards you discarded that turn.
Speaker 2 (32:47):
And then you walk in line for Disneyland and then
you open the bat.
Speaker 1 (32:50):
I don't think that's I don't think that's Disneyland.
Speaker 2 (32:52):
You have to damage to a player though, like that
is it can't be blocked easy. I guess that's very
I guess what do you from?
Speaker 1 (33:00):
What you want from the card?
Speaker 2 (33:02):
Yes, yes, I guess okay, all right, fine, yeah, you're right, Okay,
I'll yeah, you're right, you're I'm at busy Land. Actually,
each on thin card in your grave eard has mayhem
the man causes equal to its mana cost. How what
is mayhem in my magic? To begin with?
Speaker 1 (33:16):
It's a good question.
Speaker 2 (33:19):
Hmmm.
Speaker 1 (33:21):
So there are so many looting effects in magic, especially
in the colors of Gris's that we're looking at here
like it's a major mechanic for red, and it's a
sizeable mechanic for blue. So there are a number of
cards that are just like tapped to draw a card
and discard a card, or one man of draw two
cards discard two cards, right, and on its own, those
(33:41):
cards are bad because they're like manna. They're like either
card neutral or card negative. Yeah, but with Green Goblin
they're straight up card positive and mana cheating. So it
may mayhem look really good.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
It has too, It has too positives on a card
like this kind of interesting. That's a tough card to Again,
this is one of you have to really look at,
like how what is your pool of cards? Like it's
this one's so difficult to build, probably because you have
so many options. Green doesn't have a ton of discard, right,
I'm guessing that's why it's hard to utilize the.
Speaker 1 (34:15):
I mean, green doesn't. But it's not a green card,
so you know, I know, I think you really want
it to be green. Green is about like major, Green
is about healing. Like none of this supplies to Green
Goblin people. Why don't you ask the people who made
the character of Green Goblin why they didn't call it
Red Goblin?
Speaker 2 (34:35):
Makes me say it just bothers me. Okay, I can't.
I'm sure people have said this before, but like, how
is he greed?
Speaker 1 (34:41):
Okay, whatever, fine, Just it's commander rule zero green into
the color identity.
Speaker 2 (34:46):
Who cares part is cool?
Speaker 1 (34:47):
Yeah, particle card is unique.
Speaker 2 (34:50):
Card has the same thing as like mister Negative, where
it's like you could really think about how you want
to build your deck for a card like this, and
potentially this is probably the most explosive one that you've
shown me so far, depending on how you build it.
It's like you could you could listen to the shit.
Every card you play is two mana and then you
get two mana less. Yeah, you just you just you
(35:11):
go infinite that one turn and you win the game.
Speaker 1 (35:15):
Artific artifacts that cost to are zero. You can cast
zero manic cards.
Speaker 2 (35:19):
You play every card in the world on your turn.
And then there's a card in Magic one hundred percent
that says deal one damaged field x damage to a
target player for each card you discarded this turn.
Speaker 1 (35:29):
G g I one hing Yeah, no problem.
Speaker 2 (35:35):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (35:35):
There is a card called Riddlesmith and there's a lot
of cards like it that are like whenever you cast
an artifact, draw a card and discard a card, and
it's like, that's just a two manic creature. So if
you have a bunch of artifacts that are just like commanders,
full of these that are to mana, they tap to
add a man of some color to your manipool. So
if you're just playing those and discarding another one and
(35:56):
then casting it from the graveyard for free and drawing
and discarding another one and asking it from the graveyard
for free and drawing a discard, it's like infinite manna
and you're just like whipsawing through your deck.
Speaker 2 (36:06):
Yeah, it is so cool. It is so cool, cool coat, like.
Speaker 1 (36:11):
Maybe maybe you play Norman Osborne.
Speaker 2 (36:13):
Villains are dope, all right.
Speaker 1 (36:14):
Our last chance to turn you off is to show
you the altar.
Speaker 2 (36:18):
Oh my god, they look so good.
Speaker 1 (36:20):
Yeah, they look really cool.
Speaker 2 (36:22):
The green goblin looks so good. Oh dude, which Hearstone
did like alter It's like this, it looks so good.
Speaker 1 (36:32):
Look at the pumpkins. Look at the pumpkins.
Speaker 2 (36:35):
Looks so good.
Speaker 1 (36:38):
All right, nice, So you're in you're a green goblin gamer.
Speaker 2 (36:41):
I am. I really like that. I really like the
The green goblin on the altar looks so good. Well,
cool card. I love these.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
I really, I really wish I could do something in
standard with it. And maybe it has a chance just
because cost reduction on something like that. Maybe there's a
combo deck. But it still doesn't seem like you can
get away with a or Man of three three flying
Menace and hope that it lives in standard. I just
think it'll die.
Speaker 2 (37:06):
It's probably a commander. I mean again, I think this card.
They're saying it's in standard, but I'm I have a
feeling that probably designedly. Oh yeah, most casual We've found
this discussion before anything. Like most casual people, they commander
and that's where most of their money probably is coming.
Speaker 1 (37:24):
Yep, hey more villain, well kind of, it's like an
anti hero, you might say.
Speaker 2 (37:29):
Yeah, I watched I watched the Veta movies. The first
one was good Eddie Brock. Damn, he looks good. I
like that, like the Venom in the back to this
kind of nice two neutral, one black when Eddie Brock
enters return target creature with mana value one or less
from your graver to the battlefields. Okay, we spent three
black red green to transform him into venom. Okay, so
(37:52):
am I paying a three three minutes okay, three minute
three through to return preach card with one man in our
last maybe because you guys have like when this hits
to the battlefield, that could be good and then Venom
lethal protector men is trample haste. When Venom attacks, you
may sacrifice another creature. If you do draw X cards,
(38:13):
then you may put a permanent card with man of
value ex or less from your hand onto the battlefield
or access the sacrifice creature's man of value. Holy shit, wait,
that's actually really unique. Damn how good is that? That's
so crazy? Man? If it did not the draw, I
(38:34):
think it would be so bad. You could really fish
for something specifically. Oh that is so cool. Probably too
bad though cool?
Speaker 1 (38:45):
You think it's you. It's bad.
Speaker 2 (38:47):
You need to have this and you need to have
another creature that it's worth casting for. But it's like
even though even though and Venom has to attack, so
you can't even do it the first turn venoms on
board unless you have like something else that allows them
to It's six manna for this Venom has haste. That's
guess that's fair. Sorry, Yeah, you're so right, it is.
(39:11):
I think it's too slow.
Speaker 1 (39:12):
You can see it coming. It is a bus that's
coming from a mile away. So if you're gonna play Venom,
you probably have to have some idea of how to
protect Venom to make sure you get the trigger.
Speaker 2 (39:24):
Yeah, I think it's bad. Sounds it sounds, so it's
a cool idea. I wonder in an actual practice how
fun that mechanic really is. But you're this is definitely
like a Disneyland card like you need Yeah, I'm just
not a huge fan of You need another creature also
on board, and you need something that's worth sacrificing, and
(39:45):
you need to have something else that you want to
cast for free when which you could have done without
even just playing Venom, Like if you're not even playing
something as like six or more, it's like what's the
point of playing Venom at that point?
Speaker 1 (39:56):
The Yeah, you're so right, I think we need to
stop reading the hard and just act on art alone.
So what do you think of this? Are you back yet?
Speaker 2 (40:06):
Do you think that is bad? He's bad?
Speaker 1 (40:09):
I mean he dies to removal. Of course we're gonna
say he's bad.
Speaker 2 (40:14):
Well, it's not that like he just dies to removal.
It's just like it's such a specific thing to do
something that is like I guess, okay, I guess drawing
cards is nice, but like you have so many other
ways to draw cards, and it's like it almost doesn't
feel like it's worth paying the man for it.
Speaker 1 (40:31):
If I have a four man, a creature with a
death ability like maybe an enter and a death ability
like a solemn simulacrum, just something that gets you a
little value on the way in, like I'm really happy
to do the ability. I'm really happy to just draw
four cards like that. That's pretty darn good. And then
from there the ceiling just gets higher. If you play
cards that say have a very large manic but they
(40:53):
have a way to cheat them in or such this
sneak attack are a very exciting Commander set up. So
things like that sounded pretty good, but it is a
lot of setup. It's for the people that want to
build the battle station and then have that big pop
off moment. It's not for and if they get messed with,
(41:13):
they get very sad. Typically these players.
Speaker 2 (41:17):
Okay, I don't know, I'm still very maybe I just
don't understand how good like drawing four cards is in Commander.
It's probably good. It's just I feel like, I.
Speaker 1 (41:27):
Mean, I just if I can draw two. I'm a
happy guy. So you're talking to the card. You're talking
to a guy who just needs his next dopamine. Head
of card.
Speaker 2 (41:35):
Draw.
Speaker 1 (41:36):
I'm going to overvalue.
Speaker 2 (41:37):
That by a mile.
Speaker 1 (41:38):
I'm not even looking at the free item. I'm like,
you wouldn't have to give me free. I just want
the cards.
Speaker 2 (41:43):
Okay, maybe you're maybe you're slightly biased them, but yeah
maybe okay. The old arts. God, I love the comic books. Man,
it's so nice.
Speaker 1 (41:57):
Mm hmmmmmm.
Speaker 2 (42:00):
Yeah two ninety five.
Speaker 1 (42:02):
Yeah, why is his Probably a lot more, probably a
lot more. Let's see.
Speaker 2 (42:08):
Why does his mouth look like that? He looks so weird.
I feel like a too square of a chin. Not
a big venom guy, to be honest with you, though,
now you would sell the movies. He's fun in Marvel Rivals.
He's like my probably the only person I like playing. Okay, uh,
(42:28):
it's fine. I think the Green Gobble Ones I say,
I wasn't.
Speaker 1 (42:31):
I'm not much of a venom guy either. I did
not find the movies particularly good.
Speaker 2 (42:36):
I found them very agree.
Speaker 1 (42:38):
Yeah, it is very pretty bad, pretty exactly.
Speaker 2 (42:44):
The first one was fine, the second one, the third one.
Speaker 1 (42:49):
Yeah, okay, okay, I'll show you. This is a character
from my favorite, well one of my favorite Spider Man movies.
Speaker 2 (43:00):
Which movies, but particularly are you speaking about.
Speaker 1 (43:04):
The most recent one across the Spider Verse. I think
it is.
Speaker 2 (43:08):
Yeah, yeah, I agree, across the Spider versus. Maybe like
top three favorite movies of all time for me, that
awesome movie, that movie Slapped when Stacy. Okay, one neutral,
one red. When Gwen Stacy enters Excel the top kut
of your library, you may play that card for as
long as you control this creature. Oh that's kind of nice.
(43:29):
Two mana one blue, one red, one whites transform into
what I'm guessing it's Ghost Spider. You got it, Ghost
Spider Man. I really wish they took the aesthetic from
Across the Spider Verse, but they probably don't have a license.
Two neutral, one blue, one red, one whites flying vigilant haste.
Whenever you play a land from Exile or cast a
(43:50):
spell from Xile, put a plus one plus one counter
on Ghost Spider. Have two counters from Ghost Spider Excel
the top cut of your library. You may play that
card this turn. Oh that's kind of wow. Okay, hold
on the issue is that you kind of need to
get the counters first. Also kind of expensive for this
(44:11):
it is a chunk.
Speaker 1 (44:12):
Yeah, five mana for that is a lot.
Speaker 2 (44:18):
M Yeah. I don't think it's God. I don't think
that's very good. I guess you have five for a
four to four. I guess that's flying in haste and vigilance,
of course, but you're playing this for the God. I
think it's bad. It's also not and it makes me
(44:39):
sad because I don't think it's very good and I
don't think it's very cool. So it's like, it's fine.
Is it weird that I think gwen Stacy's actually like
kind of a good card?
Speaker 1 (44:48):
No, not at all. I will show you some Commander
cards that like are kind of a sell or a
card like this. I'm curious what you think about them.
Speaker 2 (44:55):
Generally.
Speaker 1 (44:56):
This is from the Fallout set, actually.
Speaker 2 (45:00):
Filed Wasteland Manna one write it's a chance to keep
your drawstup. At the beginning of your upkeep excell the
top two cards your library. You may play those cards
this turn. Okay, so you have this done already, then
if you play both of them, including maybe a land,
you get plus one plus one counters.
Speaker 1 (45:19):
Yeah, it is, like, and here's another one. Like there
are a lot of effects like this that let you
exile cards and you may cast them.
Speaker 2 (45:28):
There's a lot of them, but I'm assuming, based on
ghost Spiders writing like, you still have to pay the
full Mano cost for it, so you would have to
that is true, you would have Yeah, okay, we're just
this it's not good. Ruth ermented profit what the fuck
is going on this art?
Speaker 1 (45:46):
Fine?
Speaker 2 (45:47):
On neutral want to play one night? If you would
draw a card excel the top two cards of the
library instead, you may play those cards this turn. Okay,
I mean I could see the synergy what you're saying.
I actually think Wild Wastelands are very interesting card, but
I don't think you need ghost Spider for it. I
think you're basically putting ghost Spider into to be like
the Commander for this archetype, rather than building the deck
(46:09):
around this commander. If that makes sense.
Speaker 1 (46:12):
I think that. Yeah, I think that makes sense. And
thankfully in Commander, there are a lot of good payoffs
for exiling and casting from exile, not as many as
maybe you want, but there's enough. So like the deck
is already a popular archetype with some different commanders in
some different colors. Red especially is very good at this,
(46:33):
so I think this will be a super popular commander. Also,
there are fun things you can do, like whenever you
add a plus one plus encounter to something, it adds
to instead. There are cards that do that. If you
do that, then this is basically every card or land
you play from exile gets you another card that you
exile immediately, but it is really expensive. It is a
(46:53):
challenging commander. I will say this about Gwen, and you
might be right, like maybe Gwen even see some standard
play Gwen for your opening hand is amazing because you
basically have like a nine card opening hand. You have
a random XIL card that you can play anytime while
you have Gwen, you have Gwen herself, and then you
have your usual like seven card hand. So it does
(47:17):
feel amazing to always have a two drop that basically
draws you another card to make sure that you hit
your first several land drops and get your game going
right away. So Gwen does feel amazing as a commander.
Speaker 2 (47:29):
Okay, nice, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (47:32):
Those are the vibes I So, yeah, I've already gotten
into this commander a bit I've worked on this commander
here and there, so this is close to being like
my commander for the set. You don't sound nearly as
high on it. I will tell you she is. She
goes fighters. I think a man of too expensive. Personally,
it did.
Speaker 2 (47:49):
I did feel that it's one of those things like
we have this enhearcement the time. The card is so cool,
but then like you look at the manocloss and you
go like damn, like I can't play that. It comes
down to, all right, this is the altar.
Speaker 1 (48:03):
We have a little altart. Yeah, we don't have the
comic old art for this one, which surprised me a lot.
Speaker 2 (48:09):
It looks pretty good. It looks nice.
Speaker 1 (48:14):
I'm I'm sure you also missed the across the Spider verse. Yeah,
I think that good.
Speaker 2 (48:20):
Spider verse is just so good. I'm actually don't know
if Ghost Spider has her own comic, that would be
the more interesting thing. Oh she does Spider GWe Ghost Spider.
Speaker 1 (48:34):
Maybe, I mean the whole art gallery should be revealed now.
Maybe it's a promo. Maybe they're slow rolling it.
Speaker 2 (48:40):
I don't know. Look a look at this, like hold on,
like this.
Speaker 1 (48:43):
Looks yeah something, what'd you find I wish, I wish.
Speaker 2 (48:45):
This was a part like the art for this is
that's such a bad quality. What the what that sense?
Speaker 1 (48:50):
That is a very bad quality. And there you go,
hold on put it on screen because why not?
Speaker 2 (48:55):
But there you go there. I don't know why it
sounds like that. That was so weird.
Speaker 1 (49:00):
All right, let me yeah, this is in the folder. Yeah,
that is a that would be a sick card. It's
even like it looks just ready to be a card,
like you just put the power and toughness right there
and it's there.
Speaker 2 (49:13):
Yeah, oh my god, why not this card, this card?
Why not Spider Verse exists? That's the problem.
Speaker 1 (49:19):
Yeah, I guess, so, I guess so. Okay, we live
in the legal world. Man, it's scary out here.
Speaker 2 (49:30):
I'm sure some of them proxy and they'll have the
Spider versus they really wanted it.
Speaker 1 (49:35):
I think a lot of people will do things like that,
but we I can't condone such behavior.
Speaker 2 (49:41):
Yeah, of course, of course, of course, why would you.
Why wouldn't you? Oh, don't do that? Okay, Hydro, who me?
Speaker 1 (49:49):
It's c GV as a magic card.
Speaker 2 (49:51):
It's not you.
Speaker 1 (49:52):
Yeah, that's dude, that's so thank you.
Speaker 2 (49:54):
Hydro. Man. What the fuck? Okay, fluid fell in you blue?
How does Spider Man deal with this? Like what I
guess goes through the wa okay whatever? You cast the
blue spell off? Hydromen is a creature? What do you
mean if he's a sure keep going? Oh okay, he
gets plus one plus one until the end of turn.
(50:16):
You can your end step untapped hydro man until your
next turn. He becomes a land and gains tap ad blue.
It's not a creature. During this time you get a two.
You get it two to two, you cast one. If
he has any spell, he gets plus one plus one
mm hmm. But then worst case, you get an extra
man in the next turn. Does he does he turn
(50:40):
back to cuture?
Speaker 1 (50:43):
He does until your next turn, So on your turn
it will be a tow to two again and.
Speaker 2 (50:49):
Then he goes back into a land the next turn after.
That's right, and that's kind of sick.
Speaker 1 (50:56):
This car.
Speaker 2 (50:57):
Isn't this car good and standard?
Speaker 1 (51:00):
Maybe this is one of the this is one of
the cards that yeah, I'm kinda I'm looking at this.
It's a very hard card for the opponent to kill
because they need to have either lamb destruction on their
turn or instance speed removal on your turn and you're
playing bit blue so you can interact with them, and
it is kind of man a cheating. I don't like
(51:22):
it turns into a land so it won't have summoning
sickness because it's no longer a creature, so it does
ramp you and every turn on the opponent's turn you
have an extra blue. So as long as you have instance,
which is something that is very standard friendly, it's a
fast format and instant speed interaction is like very popular,
(51:43):
then yeah, it seems like a really good card.
Speaker 2 (51:46):
It does. It actually seems very good much. I think
a manner is kind of boring. I don't know if
you really want to build your deck around this.
Speaker 1 (51:55):
But I don't know if you want to build your
deck around it, but I think it might go in
a lot of Blue decks because Blue doesn't have a
lot of ramp options. So I don't think it's a Commander,
but I think Blue decks will just play it to
have more land.
Speaker 2 (52:07):
I yeah, if you're playing this just as like a creature,
I think it's very very good. That looks very good.
I'm not sure about Commander. That doesn't doesn't spark interesting commander,
but it has so much potential it seems like for two. Yeah,
like if you get an extra man at every single
turn or every other turn, that's that seems so good.
Speaker 1 (52:26):
Do you remember Enduring Curiosity the cat that you really liked?
That Like, whenever a creature does damage to an opponent,
you draw a card it has flash.
Speaker 2 (52:34):
That dust scorn. I feel like, yeah it is Yeah,
I think I opened it. Actually, I think it's a mike.
It's my closet.
Speaker 1 (52:42):
I mean this gets you enduring Curiosity a turn sooner,
then turns into a creature and attacks, so you draw
like multiple cards from it.
Speaker 2 (52:50):
That's kind of sick. Yeah, I think in Standard Mandy
it actually has potential, which is good for you.
Speaker 1 (52:55):
I know a blue and Standard Let's do this, baby,
we got to compete. I want Does VV play this?
Speaker 2 (53:01):
I don't.
Speaker 1 (53:02):
Maybe maybe it does, because why wouldn't you want some
extra mana for your interactions. It's not as and on
your turn you have a creature to put counters on
with your soul cauldron to get more VV activations Like
this might even be a good VV car. The legendariness
holds it back, so you might only want like two
in your deck because you can't have multiples. But it's
a good car. I like this card a lot. This
(53:23):
is might be my favorite standard card for the said.
Speaker 2 (53:26):
Okay, so hold on, here's a weird interaction here. If
you have hydro Man and then he turns into a land,
and then the next turn you play another hydro man,
he would turn into a land and then this would
go back into a creature. Does the legendary creature still apply?
Speaker 1 (53:42):
How would you explain to me how you played a
hydro man on your turn?
Speaker 2 (53:48):
No, no, on your wait, wait, hold on, I'm i
tripping here the end turn, all your end step, well,
your next turn, he'd be okay, ignore me.
Speaker 1 (53:58):
Yeah, we're good. You'd have to pay one and one
one of them would die because they both be a
creature with the name on the same I was cooking there.
I was cooking there, like a little hard, maybe a
little hard.
Speaker 2 (54:09):
Okay, it's fine, as fine as as Hyderman is, by
the way he is. Uh. I don't know if you know.
I'm sure you watch Spider Man three, so you know
it's how sand Man's created. It's virtually the exact same thing,
except for he just felling water. Instead of sand. It's fun, folks.
Speaker 1 (54:26):
Sure, in a long enough timeline, everyone becomes an elemental villain.
I guess in a different different element gets fallen upon
at the right time. Sure, why not? I guess this
good card.
Speaker 2 (54:38):
Water is so less interesting than being sand. So that's
probably why they never put him in a.
Speaker 1 (54:42):
Movie in totally totally agree, somebody.
Speaker 2 (54:47):
I'm learning a lot about Spider Man from those whack
ass characters here.
Speaker 1 (54:53):
How about this.
Speaker 2 (54:53):
Card imposters syndrome that is so good or neutral too blue?
Whenever another non token creature you control deals common damage
to a player, create a token that's a copy of it,
except it's legendary. It is a legendary, very good card
(55:14):
if it didn't cost six mana. Is there a way
for you to skip? You can cheat this out for
much cheaper, like I'm it's a chantment, so maybe you can.
Speaker 1 (55:23):
It's a permanent like you can cheat out any permanent
for like four mana and a tapped coma rescue best
these days, so in theory, but not without jumping through
like hoops. You would have to build your deck around
cheating it out.
Speaker 2 (55:37):
To speak, this card probably wins you the game if
you get this swing like once and deal damage to
the player. But it's like you're playing this for the
art and the art ten out ten. So that's great,
but it's probably not good unfortunately. That's that's too Disney unfortunately,
but that is so funny.
Speaker 1 (55:59):
They act actually just put the Spider Man meme on's car.
Speaker 2 (56:04):
That's what they got it here, it is that's the patient.
Speaker 1 (56:08):
I am really glad that it applies to any legendary
or any creature, right instead of being Spider Man specific.
If it said whenever legendary Spider does damage, like I
don't think it would be good. I think people will
want this in Commander. I think this will go in
several decks, both for the comedy and people love making
(56:29):
not like these non legendary copies. There are whole decks
built around making one hundred copies of a card that's
legendary whose effects become exponential. These are very popular in Commander.
They're not considered the best thing to do in the format.
You see them coming from a mile away, but people
love to do it like it's super popular.
Speaker 2 (56:47):
I mean maybe again, I don't have enough Commander experience
I really know if this is actually playable in it.
But it is a fun card. I could see this
being made as a heartstone card, but gotcha, it's oh.
Speaker 1 (57:02):
I got another card for you. You know this. You
sent me this card in a DM earlier this week,
or you were like, isn't this busted? So let's talk
about it.
Speaker 2 (57:12):
You don't think it's busted. I still think it's.
Speaker 1 (57:14):
Fust Let's talk about it.
Speaker 2 (57:16):
Assaulting battery one neutrals. You read it's flying. You don't
lose unspent red manna as steps and phases, and you
can cast an instant or sorcery spell. Whenever you cast
an instant or sorcery spell, add one red electual leaves
the battlefield. You may pay X when you do. He
deals x to a target player, and need's a two three.
I think it's disgusting. I think that's so good. You
(57:40):
don't think that's broken.
Speaker 1 (57:42):
I think that's so broken, especially considering that there are
instance an surcries that create red mana that you've done
just yeah, yeah, yeah, there's a bunch of.
Speaker 2 (57:54):
I just think if you have any card that draws
you cards as you're casting spells, like it is a
disgusting card. It is that is a disgusting engine that
can be utilized probably for the best. That's too red.
I don't know how much man and they can really
generate and just read it specifically, but disgusting card like.
Speaker 1 (58:16):
Red. Yeah, yeah, it's a It's obviously like it was
designed to be a Red Storm card. And Storm as
a strategy is basically where you go off, cast a
million spells and turn and combo win. And this is
exactly what it says it is. It's a battery that
just makes.
Speaker 2 (58:33):
That go burr.
Speaker 1 (58:37):
It's in commander. If you sit across from this, you
have to kill it. It is probably the most must
kill commander we've seen. Like I am. If somebody gets out,
let's say they even ramp, if they get the amazing
Spider Man out, which can web sling out creatures, legendary
creatures of all sizes, and that's their turn three. And
(58:59):
somebody just turn three just has three lands and plays Electro.
I might kill Electro. If I have one removal spell
and I can only kill one, I might kill Electro
at least the creatures is like, maybe you could do
something later about the creature or it'll attack someone else.
Electro might just cast fifty spells and win the game.
Speaker 2 (59:20):
Yeah, I think it is there a card in the
game like in Hartstone, like a gash and lux Snari.
It's like whenever you cast the spell, you draw card.
Speaker 1 (59:27):
There are many They are in blue, so they don't
work with electro, but there might be I'm trying to
think of what would There are also just a lot
of instance in sorceries that draw cards when you play them,
and ways to copy those instance and sorceries so that
you draw multiple cards from playing them. So there you go,
(59:48):
just provide the cards and this provides the mana. It's
half an engine right there.
Speaker 2 (59:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (59:52):
Easy and for some reason, also when it leaves the battlefield,
you can use your infinite manna to just kill somebody
out of the game dead. That's great, we love that.
Speaker 2 (01:00:01):
Yeah, it seems oh good. You know what's weird is
like this actually has the chance at least I don't
know what standard cards look like. But when Vv's gone,
once they murder it, I wonder how good this will
be like in terms of the rest of the metagame,
because again it's such a scary idea to have this
in the game, and I don't know if you have
the all the cards you necessarily need in Sander to
(01:00:21):
make this like a one unit kill like VV currently
is with Cauldron.
Speaker 1 (01:00:25):
I wonder, I wonder, but there are definitely enough cards
to kind of combo with it to take a long turn.
I'm not sure where that turn ends in standard.
Speaker 2 (01:00:35):
I don't know. I just I remember seeing it. I
was like, what the fuck am I reading?
Speaker 1 (01:00:41):
There's a there's a card called Bergie that says whenever
you cast a a spell, you add red to your manopool.
And this is a mono red commander that's regular for Storm,
and I think a lot of people will think of
Bergie when they see this. But the keeping the mana
like every turn like rolling over mana is it's.
Speaker 2 (01:01:02):
So yeah, the rolling over is so mean, so good,
so good, so good. Coler would want to play this,
So I.
Speaker 1 (01:01:10):
Wonder if every Red deck wants to play it, even
if it's not the Commander, because it's like a way
to ramp in Red, and Red doesn't have a lot
of ways to do that. Like if this lives, you
just get to like basically you can spend your next turn.
If you get this out the next turn, you just
tap four mana And if this lives, Like you get
back to your turn and you have eight nine mana
(01:01:32):
like it's a man of double or if it lives,
oh my god.
Speaker 2 (01:01:37):
It kind of gives me the same vibe as VV,
like when when you see VV and you're like, oh,
if it lives, the game's over. It's kind of the
same thing. Very good card, very very good card. I'm
I'm shocked they printed a card like this. But maybe
it could be one of those things where it's like
we're so invested into it because it's flashy, but it
maybe it ends up not being great. But I just
can't imagine in a format like Commander that this is
(01:01:58):
not played. This is it seems just too good.
Speaker 1 (01:02:02):
You're shocked. You're gonna have to le get it because yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:02:07):
You don't have to let me know one of those
when you play with it.
Speaker 1 (01:02:12):
Sure, Hey, maybe you can make a nice video. Maybe
we can make a Spider Man video and you can
electro me. Oh let's how about more Spider Man. Dude,
we haven't seen enough Spider Man. We got to see
more Spider.
Speaker 2 (01:02:25):
Man twenty ninety nine. Okay, they really go in Spider
verse with this one. They're treading the line one blue
one red from the Future. You can't cast Spider Man
twenty nine nine doing your first, second, or third turns
of the game. That's interesting, Dolble strike vigilance at the
beginning of your end step. If you played a land
or cast the spell this turn from anywhere other than
your hand, Spider Man twenty nine nine deals damage equal
(01:02:48):
to his power to any target. M Why are they
delaying three turns? I guess this could snowball technically if
you play this on if it did not from the future,
you you go turn two like this if you have
(01:03:09):
any if you can cast any land, you're doing Q
damage to something. Seems fine. How much buffs is okay?
I know there's buffs in red, Yes, monstrous rage. Anybody
that car got banned. It's man, I like it's weird
because I think if it didn't have the from the Future,
it would be really good in standard If blue and
(01:03:31):
blue reds are real deck, isn't it. It's like, uh, yeah,
it's the BB deck, so that I think that has potential.
If it didn't have that, I'm a little worried now
that it's for But maybe that's for the Maybe you
don't even care, because like the first say from turn
four is when you can start buffing it, and then
maybe that's what matters.
Speaker 1 (01:03:49):
This card is in Standard.
Speaker 2 (01:03:51):
I wonder if the combo here is you play Electro
and then you also play Spider Man. You use every
card you can't to buff Spider Man up wild Ride
one man. A target creature gets plus three plus your
own gains haste until the out of turn holy shit.
Speaker 1 (01:04:07):
Uh huh and.
Speaker 2 (01:04:08):
Has harmonized four and one reading you may cast is
scurfing your gravorite for its harmonized cost. A tap a
creature control to reduce that cost by x where exit
its power? Oh shit, yeah, because I guess I guess
if it's tapped, it still does the effects of the
last paragraph.
Speaker 1 (01:04:23):
Right, Uh yeah, it would yep. So if you had
to tap Spider Man ninety nine to do this, then
you're dealing like five damage to any target. It has vigilance,
so you could attack first and punch your opponent for
ten with the double striking five to three haste. Uh
So they're like, that's fifteen damage right there if you
(01:04:46):
tap Spider Man ninety nine, if you have another creature
to tap for wild Ride after you cast it on
Spider Man ninety nine, then you have built five to
face and you're attacking for sixteen.
Speaker 2 (01:05:00):
Yeah, it's ptty nuts.
Speaker 1 (01:05:01):
They're dead, they're dead, they're they're rare, and they're already dead.
Speaker 2 (01:05:07):
Now that's that's why they have from the feature, right,
That's that's why the whole thing was. That makes a
lot of sense, That makes a lot of The card
does look good. I actually think the card has But man,
it's it's crazy how you lower the mancost and all
of a sudden these cards seem stronger than the higher
manocaust ones.
Speaker 1 (01:05:23):
Yeah, it's not dramatically different from like it has the
same It has the same payoff you want for Spider Gwen, right,
the playing things from exile thing. It's a little more
open ended than that because you can also flashback in
cards from Graveyard and stuff like that, and it's cheaper
and now all of a sudden you have like people
(01:05:43):
are just dying out here.
Speaker 2 (01:05:45):
Yes, it also it also feels like it does more
than Spider Gwen. Right, Like you're if the soul goal
is to kill your opponent, there you go. But there
you go. It's at the cost of this thing needs
to live, I guess is the bigger concern. But you
don't even I don't think you build this for your
commander unless you really want to just do with like
an amazing buff turn. But having it in your dack
(01:06:08):
just makes sense. Oh, it seems like a good card.
I wonder how good it will be in Standard two.
Like there's potential for a card like this.
Speaker 1 (01:06:16):
Yeah it is. Uh, it is a bit of a
different deck from VV, but who knows. I mean it's
still two manif for a two to three double strike
vigilance and if you can give it haste like that
can be so much damage.
Speaker 2 (01:06:27):
I mean you you open with it though you just
use minus one card or like firset returns.
Speaker 1 (01:06:33):
Yeah, I mean you're you're waiting to double spell and
I don't think you want to play this on its own.
You you would, like if you had no other two drop,
you'd play this on its own. It's a good body
like two three double strike vigilance is kind of unheard of, yeah, Like,
like it's usually a one to one, so typically the
magic rate on this would be like to man for
a one to one double strike is a card that's been.
Speaker 2 (01:06:55):
Used before, have they have they done like a from
the future thing before.
Speaker 1 (01:07:02):
Yeah, there's a Jase that's there's a Jase planes Walker
that's two mana that can't be cast on your first, second,
or third turn.
Speaker 2 (01:07:07):
Of the game.
Speaker 1 (01:07:08):
It's okay, it's a very mediocre card and it's a
planes walker, so it doesn't have the board presence of
a Spider Man twenty ninety nine or the threat to
both kill something or your face. Uh yeah, this card
is this card is kind of nuts.
Speaker 2 (01:07:24):
I kind of agree with you right when you If
you play this card, are you gonna say spider Man
twenty ninety nine? Are you just gonna call it twenty
ninety nine?
Speaker 1 (01:07:31):
I'm going to say Spider Man two thousand and ninety nine. No,
I'm gonna say Spider Man from the year two thousand
and ninety nine. Gonna say it every time, And when
I cast it, I'm gonna say from the future.
Speaker 2 (01:07:47):
Oh, every time, discussing every single time. That's a That's
one of the things about this set where it's like
you're gonna have to I guess say what Spider Man
you're casting. You can't just say I'm playing Spider Man. Yeah, yeah,
which is out of annoying but COOLU seems very very good.
Spider Woman, stunning savior white and then how do you
(01:08:09):
say this white or blue? Yeah, we'll go with that.
Speaker 1 (01:08:12):
Use I mean azorious hybrid blue, blue, white, hybrid, sure, whatever.
Speaker 2 (01:08:19):
Flying venom blast artifacts and creatures of your opponent controls
and are tapped.
Speaker 1 (01:08:26):
How you doing You're okay?
Speaker 2 (01:08:28):
Wait that is disgusting. No, that's so good too, mana
for that kind of effect that is effectively saying I
am delaying your Oh my god, Oh that is so
that is that isn't that disgusting? I don't know about
your commander. Maybe you're fine with that being your commander,
having that unturned. Two people hate you for this? Now? Wait,
(01:08:51):
yeah they probably did you go this card into what's
that card? That box he played and everyone hated her
for playing it? Ter, Yeah, can't you do that into
green arbiter? And then the people just will never play
with you over again. And then it's just that.
Speaker 1 (01:09:06):
That is a blue white mage plan. That's what that is.
Speaker 2 (01:09:09):
Yes, I don't know if you want this to be
your commander, but I do think the card's good and
even in standard. Again, it's that conversation of like it
might be just good enough if you play. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:09:21):
I think this is good enough. Yeah, I think this
is good enough. I think it's even better in Commander,
where people are kind of like they have their plan
and they stick to their plan and it affects three
other players. In Standard, I think it's also good enough.
We talked about Spider Man twenty ninety nine and well,
Spider Man twenty ninety nine cast from the future entering
tap can't do the wild ride thing. It has to
(01:09:43):
wait another turn. Yeah, this is a really good ability.
And now having it on a legendary body that can
also attack is I'm pretty pumped about this.
Speaker 2 (01:09:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:09:55):
Yeah, evasive body. So it's getting in there. It's sending
a message. She is stunning. I like her a lot.
Speaker 2 (01:10:01):
She is stunning. Ooh, I love the art too. Does
twenty ninety nine not have an altar? Oh?
Speaker 1 (01:10:09):
Twenty nine? You know what, I set them aside and
didn't send them to you.
Speaker 2 (01:10:12):
My bad, My bad.
Speaker 1 (01:10:13):
Let me let me hook you up. Here we go.
Speaker 2 (01:10:20):
I still want the Spider Verse version, but it is nice.
Speaker 1 (01:10:23):
M we long, we long for the Spider Verse version.
Can't they just buy the rights for a Secret Layer. Maybe?
I don't know about fun.
Speaker 2 (01:10:32):
I don't know about you, but like, legitimately, I don't
think any real life Spider Man movie is gonna top
like either one of those movies for me. So it's
it's that's my Spider Man. At this point, I don't know.
I don't know how you feel about that. So when
I think of Spider Man, I want that aesthetic more
than anything else.
Speaker 1 (01:10:49):
I was of the I was like new in college,
Like I think I was twenty or under between eighteen
and twenty. I could do the math. I'm not going
to When I saw the first Spider Man movie with
Toby maguire and it was like the coolest a spider
It was the coolest a comic book movie, a comic
(01:11:12):
book hero had looked to me. So I was into
it big time. And then the second one I thought
was even better, and that was like Spider Man was
the biggest thing in the world at the time. It
was just so it was so awesome. It was the
biggest movie of all time at the time.
Speaker 2 (01:11:27):
I believe it was. Yeah, it was fun.
Speaker 1 (01:11:31):
And then Spider Man three happened, and nowadays that would
have been a huge hit because of the social media
meme ability alone. But back then everybody didn't understand it.
It was ahead of its time and it and then
Toby maguire fell off as Spider Man, so that was
very much like. We bought those DVDs the Collector's Editions
the moment they came out. My wife and I were
(01:11:52):
so into that movie and that character, Toby McGuire as
that character. But we didn't buy or really buy in
to another Spider Man thing since Spider Man three until
the Spider Verse movies, and I have bought them both
on digital, and I were also getting the Blu rays
(01:12:13):
like like we were like, we must have these forever.
They are amazing. They are amazing. I love them both.
Speaker 2 (01:12:19):
I saw.
Speaker 1 (01:12:20):
I saw both Spider Verse movies multiple times in the theater,
which is something I almost never do at this stage
in my life. It takes a lot for me to
do that.
Speaker 2 (01:12:29):
So we went to go see I agree with you
that the Original Spider Man. I didn't mind Andrew Garfield
on the Andrew Garfield one was fine.
Speaker 1 (01:12:37):
It was like fine is the right word? Fine is
the right word?
Speaker 2 (01:12:41):
It had, it had things about it that I truly enjoyed.
I thought Andrew Garfield did a good job, but overall
like not not my favorite es. I remember walking into
into the Spider Verse and I didn't really know what
to expect. I walked out of it like what the
fuck did I just watch? And why was that so? Yes?
Like I was like floored with how good it was.
And then I saw across with my expectations being as
(01:13:03):
high as humanly possible because of the first one, and
it somehow surpassed it and made me go, oh my god,
I can't wait to see the third one. The fact
that the third one is still like two years away
absolutely hurts me. People are like, I hope I don't
die before Grand Theft Auto six comes out. No, no, no, no,
I don't care. I just give me the fucking Spider ms.
Speaker 1 (01:13:24):
Yeah, baby, please, because please finish it.
Speaker 2 (01:13:28):
Well. It's tough because I like the second one more,
but you can't look at the second movie on its
own because the way it ends is like it leads
you into the third movie, like you kind of have
to have the closure. I remember being in the theater
because I went to go see it with one of
my friends who was also really excited to see it,
and like it starts to like, you know how like
(01:13:48):
the it feels like the climax happens, and then it
starts ramping up again, of like like it's been like
two hours. Where the fuck are they going on this?
Speaker 1 (01:13:56):
Exactly?
Speaker 2 (01:13:57):
It was so good, it was I was so so
excited to see. Anyways, that is like the maybe the
coolest aesthetic I've ever seen in the movie either, Like
I fucking thought that those movies looked incredible. So now
when I think of Spider Man, I don't think of
Toby maguire or Andrew Garfield. I think of those specifically.
And twenty ninety nine was introduced probably to a lot
of people threw across the Spider Verse.
Speaker 1 (01:14:18):
When I see I didn't know anything about it either,
So yeah, of course we think of it.
Speaker 2 (01:14:22):
Yeah yeah, So now when I see this art, that
was a very big tangent to say that this art
is not as kind of Spiderverse.
Speaker 1 (01:14:32):
I think. I think the Spider Verse animated movies are this,
And obviously you can't talk about it without also talking
a little bit about K Pop Demon Hunter doing. It's
like they are changing the way we look at animation.
Speaker 2 (01:14:48):
Oh yeah, yeah, it's kind of.
Speaker 1 (01:14:51):
The visual roller coaster is aggressive to say the least.
Speaker 2 (01:14:56):
Don't get me started on what Disney is doing and
how sad it is seeing what their movies have become.
When they had like these hand drawn animated films that
looked incredible and they were so much Yeah, there's so
much talent put into them. Now they look all the
same with like no differences, like maybe swight like slight
little things, and then Spider Verse comes out and you're like,
holy fuck my eyes, like this is incredible, Like it's
(01:15:19):
actually it makes me so sad to think what Disney
has been doing with like their live action. This is
such a side tangent, by the way, but let's do it.
The live action Disney movies make me depressed to see
what they are because I don't think what makes those
movies special is the story. I think what makes them
special is like the art and how they they portrayed
all these characters through like these hand drawn animations. You
(01:15:40):
go watch the original Lion King compared to the like
twenty eighteen version, It is a night and day difference,
and the original one is so much better and it
holds up well because of just how what the animation is.
Now it's like the new Lion King is it's heart.
It feels heartless. It doesn't have the same amount of
soul that the other one did, and it's kind of depressing.
(01:16:01):
And I don't necessarily I guess this Frozen was so
successful they thought that was like the way to do it,
but I don't even think that's the case. They were
doing it beforehand. I don't know. I really like when
when artists and like animators take a chance on something
that fits their aesthetic more than just like here is
the typical Pixar like animation, like this is what it's
going to be on from now on. And Spider Verse
(01:16:23):
definitely inspired probably a whole generation to do it. Fun
fact for you, by the way, I don't know if
you knew this K Pop did Mahunter was made from
the same people who made Spider Verse.
Speaker 1 (01:16:30):
Yep, yep, did know that one. Yep? I heard all
about that one. So yeah, pretty impressive. And I think
Disney is here in twenty twenty five going to course
correct very aggressively because they're not They're not going to
let this They're not going to let another studio run
away with the style. You're going to see them adjust
(01:16:52):
big time. I'm I'm old enough to remember when Pixar
was new and I wasn't sure about the art of
toy story, but it turned out to again have that
magic did and Disney did not let picks Our runaway
with the animation game. They were like, we're you know,
they're like, we're getting in on this. They they're smart
(01:17:12):
enough to they'll adjust exactly exactly now. I don't think
they can buy Sony, but we'll see.
Speaker 2 (01:17:19):
I don't think they can buy Tony.
Speaker 1 (01:17:21):
I don't think so, but I know that they're not.
I know they're going to adjust because they always have.
And you're right, those original Disney movies were magic, and
a lot of it was the animation style. That's why
you can watch it some of these, like forty fifty
years later, I still, you know, I'll still sit down
and watch the animated Peter Pan one of my favorite movies.
Very old movie.
Speaker 2 (01:17:42):
Now, but yeah, it just had it.
Speaker 1 (01:17:44):
You know, it absolutely had it.
Speaker 2 (01:17:46):
I don't know. We watched Leland Stitch was coming in theaters.
I haven't watched in theaters yet. Then we rewatched the
original and it's like, man, I'm like, why are they
even bothering to remake these? The only one I'll give
them credit for was The Jungle Book because I feel
like making I forget their names, the bear and like
the Panther, like real added a little bit to it.
(01:18:07):
But now it's like they saw the success of it,
and then it's copy cut It's like cookie cutter. Now
for all these other movies, it's.
Speaker 1 (01:18:13):
Balloe and Bagheera. Yeah, I got you there. I see
these old Disney movies are my Wheelhouse Baby.
Speaker 2 (01:18:21):
Now because that was successful, it's like, let me just
copy and paste it with all these other movies because
we want money when they're forgetting what the sole reason
of making those movies is in the first place, which
is depressing. And that's that's sad what Disney's become. But
by the way, Disney, if you ever want to work
with me, let me know. I will change my opinions.
Speaker 1 (01:18:38):
I'm sure after I'm sure after this conversation, they're they're
so in, they're so in. Oh goodness, Disney. We love
your work, we love your work.
Speaker 2 (01:18:50):
We're big fancy yeah, yeah, yeah, okay, I don't want
to do you have any cards to show me?
Speaker 1 (01:18:56):
Or yeah? I want your opinion on a soul stone.
Speaker 2 (01:19:00):
The soulestone this Is this what you call this the
chase card of the set?
Speaker 1 (01:19:05):
Yes, I would call this the chase card of the set.
Speaker 2 (01:19:09):
This makes the question why is the solestone in Spider Man?
If most people, again, I am not a comic book person.
If I'm thinking about the solestone from the movies the
MCU the Spider Man had no association with it, which
is interesting why they decided to put it here, So
(01:19:30):
that must be I must have some master plan. I'm
not sure. Soulstone one blue or sorry, one blue, one neutral,
one black, sorry, indestructible tap you get one black, six
one black, and you tap it. Exil creature. You control
harness the Soulestone. Once harnessed, its infinity ability is activated
(01:19:51):
at the beginning of your upkeep return target creature card
from your graveyard to the battlefield. Oh my god, so
you're probably indestructible. Oh no, you can't. Can you interact
with this in any way? Then stealing?
Speaker 1 (01:20:12):
You can? You can exile it or steal it. Isn't
this an also? Oh if it said sacrifice an artifact
and it was their only artifact, they'd have to do it.
Speaker 2 (01:20:25):
Isn't this an auto include in every Black deck forever?
Speaker 1 (01:20:30):
That's what people are saying.
Speaker 2 (01:20:32):
Why wouldn't you not run this? The only problem is
that you go minus one man for one turn, but
then you get mana every single term for having this,
and then you get an instainability at turn seven.
Speaker 1 (01:20:43):
Oh uh yeah, that's pretty good.
Speaker 2 (01:20:47):
It's in destructible. I guess. Yeah. You said you can
still interact with in some cases, but it seems a
little too good. No, like, that's it's kind of concerning.
Speaker 1 (01:20:58):
No, Like, I I'll show you some altarts first before
I give you my opinion.
Speaker 2 (01:21:05):
Oh my god, like the fantous one for sure, but
hell yeah, on its own looks very good. Are they
doing like I think I've talked to you about this
like a while ago. But are they doing it where
it's like the one Ring, where it's like there's one
solestone that you're looking for rather than.
Speaker 1 (01:21:24):
No, I guess not. Yeah I was. I was kind
of surprised. I thought that was going to be a
given in the sets, but no, yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:21:32):
I thought that would be an infinite infinite money glitch.
I mean nice, both of them, really nice. I mean
imagining the one with Fantos might be the actual chase
card of the set. I don't know about the one
on its own, but they both look really really good,
and it's a good card. I'm assuming it's a good card.
What are these worth? By the way, what are these
going for me?
Speaker 1 (01:21:49):
The super pre order price on the Fantos one is
seven hundred and twenty one dollars.
Speaker 2 (01:21:54):
Oh my god. What about the other one?
Speaker 1 (01:21:57):
Oh yeah, good old normal one hundred and forty six
dollars as of today?
Speaker 2 (01:22:02):
Is that expected to go up?
Speaker 1 (01:22:07):
I mean that depends. Is everybody actually auto including it
in every Black deck? Ever?
Speaker 2 (01:22:12):
I think I think it's pretty good. I think the
only time you wouldn't want it, even in like Aggro,
it's not even that bad. Your minus one manner for
one turn and then you get the man of back
over you go even the next turn and then you
only gain man it like it just seems disgusting. So yeah,
I think it's you just play it right. You don't
think it's okay? Oh god, here we.
Speaker 1 (01:22:31):
Go, Here we go. Probably my hot take of the set.
I think I'm not saying it's bad. It is good.
You could run it in all of these decks if
you want to. But I think it's incredibly overrated by
a lot right now, because I don't think you're ever
going to use the ability. No, think it's too expensive,
(01:22:53):
too slow, and that getting like, well, I don't think
it's going to do what you need it to do
at all in commander, No, I don't think so perfectly. Yeah,
war in standard, it's not going to do it in standard, I.
Speaker 2 (01:23:06):
Would gets in standard. I agree with you. But you
can look at this as like wild growth for heartstone,
for black uh huh. It's just every manna you have
an addition. Every turn you have an additional mana.
Speaker 1 (01:23:18):
You're you're paying.
Speaker 2 (01:23:19):
Two mana what what the hell?
Speaker 1 (01:23:23):
Hello? Like I think ninety nine percent of the time
it's arcane signet or fell war Stone, and you can
have those for like a dollar.
Speaker 2 (01:23:34):
Okay, so you're but hold on, hold on. Your argument
would be that because it's more expensive, you're you're going
to see it less, You're not going to see it
as often because there's just alternatives that do virtually the
exact same thing. Yeah in the world, Yeah, in the
world that they're all the same price. Aren't you just
running all three.
Speaker 1 (01:23:51):
In the world that it's all the same price. It
does depend what your deck is doing, and I tend
to run a lot of black decks to actually like
attacking people and getting like stuff down early and then
explode on man out later with cards like Crip Gas
and such. That's a whole other conversation. I might I
would probably still run the Solestone in the deck. I'll
put it in a bunch of decks. I'm not lying,
I'm I think that most people would be better served
(01:24:15):
for their dollars, for sure, to get like arcane signat
in faller Stone. But in the world where you already
have it, yep, you can include it one hundred percent.
But I don't know that you need to, like when
you replace your arcane signet with this, because you only
want so many Mana rocks to man a tap for one,
so many ramp pieces. The upgrade you're getting, I don't
think is as large as you want. And I know
(01:24:36):
that are cards like Vandablo. The indestructible is good because
it survives things that blow up, small permanence, so like
you take that, But I think in most games it
won't matter. I think a majority of games it won't
have that impact other than to be like boom Solestone,
and you know what, that's cool that's fine. But when
(01:24:56):
I say overrated, I just don't think it will be
important to upgrade your decks with this. I don't think
you'll see that much of a difference in any of
your decks with this card.
Speaker 2 (01:25:08):
M that's an interesting take. I think you're right. For Standard.
I don't know about Commander. I think even in Standard
you might see this get played just because it's wild.
Speaker 1 (01:25:18):
Go for black, yeah, and there are some decks in
Standard I might play a copy of this. I played
a copy of the Iron Crag, which is way worse
in some of my Black decks, but not too often.
It's a good card. People are going to take it
as I said, it's bad. I just think it's incredibly overrated,
right now, that's what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (01:25:40):
Okay, well, here's the thing. Let me just make take
the time to just say a prayer really fast. Please
let me open one. Please let me open one. Please
let me open one. Thank you so much.
Speaker 1 (01:25:52):
I'm going to say the same prayer to be honest.
All right, Do you have a favorite card from this
Spider Man? Is that either a Commander you want to
build or a card in general that like you are
one hundred percent into.
Speaker 2 (01:26:07):
It's your negative. Probably I'm excited to see. I'm not
going to spoil anything here, but I'm assuming you did.
You're going to do a Commander at some point with
these cards. I'm assuming at some point someone's going to
play this in your pod.
Speaker 1 (01:26:21):
I will make something with mister Negative in it someday,
I promise as long. Yeah, yeah, I promise I will
make something with mister Negative in it.
Speaker 2 (01:26:29):
And I'm assuming that would be very enjoyable for everyone
to watch.
Speaker 1 (01:26:32):
It's if if I were to do such a thing. Wow,
I'm sure it would be awesome.
Speaker 2 (01:26:39):
There you go.
Speaker 1 (01:26:39):
I'm sure it would be really awesome. I'm sure mister
Negative would be a bit of a game wharper, that's
for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:26:45):
Ooh, okay, interesting
