in the hearts of men and women who are stepped
into the shadows. Yes, I know the nameless terrors of

Layton stepped out of his office on the third floor
of the Drake Building.

Walking the door behind him, he stopped for a moment,
gazed at the lettering on the glass panels Walter Layton,
Theatrical Agency. A frown crossed his features. Then, shaking his
head sadly, sighed and started down the corridor toward the elevators.

You whirl at the sound wall and then see a tall,
heavy set man rush out of an office at the
end of the hall and come running towards you. Hey,
what's the idea? What's going on? Out of the way.
This catches you on the point of the jaw, then

just falling. Then as you manage to get.

To your feet again, you see that he's reached the.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
Head of the stairs. He turns and level of the gun,
aren't you The bullet whistles passed you as you drop
to the floor. An instant later, a man disappears down
the stairway. Mister Lake, are you hurt? No? No, I
I guess not, doc. What happened? I heard the shots

from my office. It beats me.
Speaker 4 (02:20):
I heard some shots. Then the guy came charging out
of the coin dealer's office down.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
Then who rent Worth? Yeah?

I tried to stop him, but he bowled me out
of the way, took off. Come on, we'd better see
if it Worth's all right?

Uh hit mister Redworth, mister Redwood by oh ms Martin.

You saw down the street looking into one shop window

after another. Finally you've stopped in thought of the forty
good story. When you're suddenly aware that someone is standing
close to you. You turn and stare, and your knees
almost buckle. Yes, Wally, it's the man who killed rent Within.
You're surprised, buddy, you I've been tailing you ever since

you left police headquarters. I figure them cops had called
you to get a look at the mug book. Well you,
I'm sorry, buddy, but you're the only guy in the
world can put a finger on me for killing an
old rent with.

the alley.

Rentworth's coin dealer is still at large, but as announced earlier,
a famous ten cent piece known as a glass dime
worth thousands of dollars is missing from the rent Worth holding.
A bulletin just received offers a reward of one thousand

dollars for its recovery. And now let's take a look

It won't make any difference once we get into Sully.

the small diner across the highway is open.
Speaker 4 (22:41):

this side of the road until the traffic thins out

In the diner, Rentworth's killer will not make a move
to eliminate you, the only witness against him. Then the
blood almost freezes in your veins as you see the
killer step from his car and start walking slowly toward
the Hamburger hut where you and Edith Marton have taken refuge.
Suddenly you realize that the two highway policemen, calmly enjoying

their dinner, are no hindrance to the killer, unless you
can somehow get word to them before Renworth player reaches you.
He spotted us either he's coming toward, but the policeman
they don't know who he is. They're not even looking
this way. Well, you gotta pull on that diner, talk
to most comes. There ought to be a phone.
Speaker 5 (25:09):
There's a payphone over there behind the county.
Speaker 1 (25:11):
Oh god, uh, you got any change? He did?
Speaker 2 (25:16):
No? No, I left my purse back at the car.
