Captain Hines reads the final means of this court martial.
Speaker 5 (02:01):
We find the accused Lieutenant John Wilson guilty of treasonable
sabotage against the government now in that he wilfully destroyed
a secret device known as the flying Torpedo, invented by
one Georgacq Chalis and acquired exclusively.
Speaker 6 (02:14):
For use by the government.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
As the prisoner or anything, you say before sentence is pronounced.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
Yes, yes, what can he say? Admits he prop the
mechanism on the demonstration torpedo.
Speaker 4 (02:25):
Why please, Professor Vaganes, as the inventor, we understand your
concern in this matter, but please don't interrupt. Well, Lieutenant Wilson, why.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
I don't know, Siah. I can hear all that's going on.
Speaker 5 (02:40):
But I I went into this obvious, General Levitt.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
The Lieutenant Wilson is not mentally accountable.
Speaker 4 (02:47):
He was sufficiently accountable to enter the testing shed by
virtue of his authority as an army lieutenant, and to
tamper with the flying torpedo and render it useless.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
The very date was to be demonstrated to the government.
Speaker 5 (02:57):
Read the sentence of the court Lieutenant work, Let's cart
decide subject to the approval of the President that you
will be dishonorably discharged from the service of your country.
That's sentenced to imprisonment for the term hard. No, you
gonna revolv don't you. That's the man Professor he's wanted.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
Professor takes on inviting the month.
Speaker 7 (03:27):
Preston, I tell you Jongleson can't be guilty. He just can't.
Speaker 8 (03:30):
Why not marg that for all traitorous army offices and
not unknown to history.
Speaker 7 (03:34):
Yes, it's a peculiar way Jongleson talk to understand. Makes
me think there's something strange about the whole thing. He
acted well, almost like a man in a trance.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
The month.
Speaker 7 (03:44):
Just what is this flying torpedo he's supposed to camp
at Win?
Speaker 8 (03:47):
Just what its name implies. A sort of aerial torpedo
filled with high explosive flying under its own power once
it's launched in their Instead of flying a predetermined course,
its direction can be guided by radio beams from an
observation plane flying high above it. Ah, I see imagine
it's the men's effectiveness the warfare. Did the actressy in
hitting even a first moving target like a a troop trainer?
(04:08):
As a fly ship?
Speaker 7 (04:08):
John tremendously important. Who invented it?
Speaker 9 (04:11):
This man?
Speaker 10 (04:11):
Are challis?
Speaker 8 (04:12):
Who was?
Speaker 10 (04:12):
Who demonstrated?
Speaker 8 (04:13):
Last week at the proving grounds. There were a large
delegations in the capital, besides being members of the War Department,
a great many high officials and other branches of the
government were to attend the test.
Speaker 7 (04:22):
Well.
Speaker 8 (04:22):
Since your friend Wilson gained access to the laboratory and
put the flying torpedo out of commission, the test has
been postponed until tomorrow.
Speaker 7 (04:30):
And who is Arcadis? Where did he come from?
Speaker 8 (04:31):
The famous foreign inventor? Is quite a reputation broad the mott.
Speaker 7 (04:35):
You don't suppose it's possible, Arcadi, says the boy, under
some strong mental insurance.
Speaker 8 (04:39):
Possible.
Speaker 7 (04:40):
They've got Wilson temporarily in the city jail. Won't you
call on him as the shadow?
Speaker 8 (04:45):
Margaret, you honestly think this case warrants my attention is
the shadow the month.
Speaker 7 (04:49):
I don't ask many favors, but I have the feeling
John Wilson is innocent.
Speaker 8 (04:53):
All right, Margot, you were really serious?
Speaker 10 (04:57):
The Shadow?
Speaker 8 (04:58):
Will pair call on John Wilson in the city jail, Oh.
Speaker 6 (05:19):
Kennet, Wilson is in that last sun.
Speaker 11 (05:22):
Thank you God, he's a boss. But General Levitt gave me.
Do you take it or do I keep it? And
you better keep it?
Speaker 3 (05:29):
Tell in case you wanna use it again.
Speaker 10 (05:31):
Yes, that's right. You'll Uh, you'll have.
Speaker 8 (05:33):
To talk to Wilson.
Speaker 10 (05:34):
Throw the bars.
Speaker 5 (05:34):
Uh huh.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
No one's allowed in.
Speaker 5 (05:36):
His cell, thank you. I have no desire to go in.
Already have one arminous sling due to the young man's temper.
Speaker 10 (05:42):
There's only one or two questions I want to ask
him that I.
Speaker 9 (05:45):
Leave, I want well, who is it.
Speaker 7 (05:53):
You?
Speaker 9 (05:54):
I can't.
Speaker 11 (05:55):
Don't get excited, Lieutenant Wilson. I only came to tell
you that you're a much better mechanic than a mocksman.
You're a bullet on the edge of my arm.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
I'm only sorry I didn't didn't kill me.
Speaker 10 (06:08):
The only way you can break the spell I have
of you, isn't it? Don't kill me?
Speaker 3 (06:13):
Well, if somebody camp.
Speaker 10 (06:16):
Look at my eyes, no look.
Speaker 9 (06:19):
No, I won't, John Wilson, look in my eyes.
Speaker 11 (06:23):
No, look in my eyes with huh that's id mm
h repeat after me.
Speaker 5 (06:34):
I destroyed the torpedo.
Speaker 8 (06:38):
I destroyed the torpedo.
Speaker 4 (06:41):
Say it, I I destroyed a torpedo.
Speaker 10 (06:49):
Semotage against my country.
Speaker 12 (06:54):
Some portage against my country.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
I am guilty.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
I am guilty, and that's all you'll remember.
Speaker 9 (07:12):
Are you showed that tone?
Speaker 5 (07:13):
He remembers Ta Racan who said that God you are.
Speaker 9 (07:19):
There, no no for God, Professor. He's waiting at the
end of the passage.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
Uh, you hide somewhere and the next help.
Speaker 9 (07:27):
Oh, I am here in the shadows, Professor Arcada. Perhaps
you've heard of me?
Speaker 10 (07:36):
Who are you? The shadow? The shadow?
Speaker 3 (07:40):
Help me?
Speaker 9 (07:41):
Help me? I am your friend. John Wilson, think no concentrates.
What is that you're trying to remember?
Speaker 12 (07:49):
It's that torpedo dangerous?
Speaker 9 (07:54):
I Wilson quiet an't now think think you can break
pro that spell? Hic.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
I I try to make them up, the stand up.
I just tried to talk people.
Speaker 5 (08:06):
I command you to stop.
Speaker 9 (08:08):
Connor. Your friends believe in you. They're trying to help
you with some.
Speaker 10 (08:15):
What have you.
Speaker 5 (08:16):
Committed, sir, stopping taj against my country.
Speaker 6 (08:26):
I am guilty.
Speaker 10 (08:29):
I am guilty, so missed up. Shadow, whoever you are,
you'll see.
Speaker 9 (08:37):
You have a powerful fellow, the boy, Professor. But there
is a way to break it.
Speaker 8 (08:42):
What way?
Speaker 10 (08:43):
Shadow?
Speaker 8 (08:44):
If you don't know, I have no intention of telling
you yet.
Speaker 9 (08:49):
Woman Mandoline stand by. Our cales has put Wilson under
some strong mental influence. The total hypnotic calipathes the boy.
The content is dominated by the thought our caless pert.
(09:12):
There we will weaken our calis as hold on Wilson's
mind and we can find out if he's guilty or not.
Get ready for another call.
Speaker 13 (09:21):
Right, I'm going to play at the prize visit to
Professor a Calypty hotel. I have a feeling that we're
not successful in getting Wilson to talk. This country of
ours may suffer a terrible disaster.
Speaker 5 (09:42):
Pluck the door, all right, would anyone follow you here
for the hotel? No, No, I'm propepper Rachli good. The
test will take place tomorrow. Yes, at three o'clock. The
war defiresment is so convinced your invention will render any
nation possessing it invincible.
Speaker 3 (09:59):
At the high command of.
Speaker 5 (10:00):
Both the Army and Navy are to be there to
witness the tests.
Speaker 10 (10:04):
The President too, Yes, the.
Speaker 5 (10:06):
President and the Vice President expect to attend together with
the Secretary of War and the Secretary of the Navy.
Speaker 11 (10:13):
Uh, they've fallen into my trap. That'll be blown off
the face of the earth, just as I planned. Fine
enough to show you make a final inspection before the
torpedo was taken up to the grounds and see that
the steering mechanism is set.
Speaker 5 (10:25):
I understand, But since I am your chief assistant, they
might ask me to go along with them. No, they
won't have fixed that.
Speaker 11 (10:31):
Their bungling army mechanics think they understand the flying torpedo.
Speaker 5 (10:34):
Perfectly, So to satisfy.
Speaker 11 (10:37):
Their pride, I've let them take complete charge of the demonstration.
Speaker 10 (10:40):
Good, don't worry about us.
Speaker 5 (10:42):
And afterwards, afterwards, with the guiding brains of the nation
wiped out at a single stroke, the country will be
thrown into confusion disorganize. So we have nothing to fear.
Speaker 8 (10:51):
I see.
Speaker 10 (10:53):
There are only two things.
Speaker 5 (10:54):
That bother me slightly, though, Lieutenant Wilson for a war Wilson,
did he really just governed a secret trick of the
steering mechanism? Yes, you know, it's what we intend to
do and how we intend to do. Ohos can one
I thought of that.
Speaker 10 (11:08):
I was afraid would allow suspicion.
Speaker 11 (11:11):
If I'm keeping Wilson under a mental hypnotic control until
it's too late for him to stop.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
Us, though it'd be better if you were dead.
Speaker 10 (11:17):
Perhaps I can.
Speaker 5 (11:19):
Still visit him at the prison. And what is the
other thing that bottles you, Professor? Only a shadow, by enough,
but I'm not quite sure of the extent of its power.
A shadow on one day, I think I can take care.
Speaker 8 (11:31):
Of it too.
Speaker 5 (11:33):
Listens, I don't I had the footsteps outside in the hall.
Speaker 8 (11:36):
Go look.
Speaker 12 (11:40):
Have going here?
Speaker 4 (11:42):
All that?
Speaker 8 (11:43):
Uh must be my nerves.
Speaker 10 (11:46):
I'll be glad to when.
Speaker 5 (11:47):
This is all over, our escapist, they can counterp yes,
the fraid that we'll be waiting for us at south there.
But go now, O'Connor and successfully good night, good night,
bother the shuttle might don't put my word power against
(12:11):
the shadow than I deserve to lose.
Speaker 8 (12:13):
And I've never a little good evening, Professor k Kalis.
You a shadow?
Speaker 10 (12:23):
You've come?
Speaker 9 (12:23):
Yeah, Professor? Why do you hold Lieutenant Wilson in a
hypnotic spell? Professor?
Speaker 5 (12:30):
I don't know what you're talking about.
Speaker 9 (12:32):
We shall see, And now I have something else to
tell you. What Wilson knows something about your, professor, And
I'm going to find out what it is.
Speaker 11 (12:42):
Alright, Shadow, you know I little, but you'll never learn
more from Wilson.
Speaker 8 (12:46):
No one can break the spell. Not you know, all
your childish magic will forget.
Speaker 9 (12:52):
Greater magic.
Speaker 10 (12:53):
Kallus what.
Speaker 9 (12:55):
Death this? Yes, it's on the way, if I can
promise you this. If any blood is shed, it will
be yours, not the Shadows.
Speaker 2 (13:17):
The second part of the Shadow's adventure will continue in
just a month. Meanwhile, here's some interesting information. Every day,
more and more families throughout this area are saving money
on their heating and cooking bills. These families are getting
better and more economical heat than ever before with blue coal.
Blue coal is anthracite. It is an American product mined
(13:38):
by the Glen Alden Coal Company, who are deeply grateful
for the purchases of blue coal by families throughout this area.
Speaker 9 (13:45):
Today.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
Blue coal is the largest selling brand of home fuel
in America because it is the only fuel that so
satisfactorily combines all of the essentials necessary for perfect heating results.
It is superior in quality, cleaner than most fuels, and
economical because it burns long and steadily down to a
(14:07):
fine powdery ash.
Speaker 10 (14:09):
Furthermore, there can be no.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
Substitution when ordering blue coal because it is the only
solid fuel actually trademarked with a blue tent so that
you can identify it at a glance. These are a
few reasons why in Watertown, New York, blue coal sales
this winter show a twenty nine percent increase over the
same period a year ago. So take a tip from Watertown,
(14:31):
New York. Families, order blue coal by name. You will
find the name of your nearest blue coal dealer listed
in the word to buy it section of your classified
telephone directory under the name blue coal.
Speaker 8 (14:54):
But I tell you, General Levitt, excuse me, ride a hen,
General hello.
Speaker 4 (15:00):
Speaking. Oh yes, good morning, Captain Hines. That's fine. You
have the flying torpedo floated and ready for the demonstration. Good,
I'll expect a report. Sorry, I can't be with you.
Good right now, Cranston to get back to this, Lieutenant Wilson.
I don't see what I can do.
Speaker 8 (15:19):
But there may be some desperate plot at the bottom
of this Wilson axes. If he'd been put under some
powerful if not expelled, he might know something about this
flying Torpeter that you ought to know.
Speaker 4 (15:28):
I Heaven's sake, Cranson, I haven't time to listen to
any sudden drivel. I know you're a very agreeable young man,
and you mean well, but you're letting your imagination run
away with you. If you don't mind, I must get
ready to leave for the capital.
Speaker 10 (15:38):
Very well.
Speaker 8 (15:38):
Just do me one favor, General Levitt might prove something
to you.
Speaker 4 (15:41):
Oh what is it?
Speaker 8 (15:43):
Suggest to Professor r Kaalis that he'd be present with
the other official visitors the proving ground the demonstrations start.
Speaker 4 (15:49):
Of course, Professor Rarchanas will be there. Why shouldn't he be?
Speaker 8 (15:52):
That's what I'd like to know. Unless I'm very much mistaken.
General Professor Arcadis has made arrangements to be far far
away from the scene of his triumph.
Speaker 4 (16:01):
I George Cranston, I believe you know something or excuse me, sir? Yeah, well,
there are.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
Two gentlemen here to see you, sir, Professor r.
Speaker 8 (16:07):
Kayless in another man.
Speaker 4 (16:09):
Oh ah right, show them in General.
Speaker 6 (16:10):
Levit will see you though, Uh, thank you.
Speaker 5 (16:12):
I'm excited to winterrupt your General Levitt.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
That's all right.
Speaker 4 (16:15):
This is mister Crinston, Professor r. Kaylis and mister ball Off.
Speaker 11 (16:17):
How j hun, General, If you don't mind, mister Crinson,
I'd like to speak to General leavet at all, not
at all.
Speaker 8 (16:23):
I'm Uh, sure you have weighty methos to discuss.
Speaker 10 (16:27):
The very gentleman.
Speaker 4 (16:27):
Thanks Crimston, goodbye.
Speaker 8 (16:29):
Oh orderly, just general.
Speaker 4 (16:30):
Levit it is my luggage ready? Yes, sir, fine, then
take the next train. Uh there there's one leaving in
twenty minutes, and you make it. Yes sir if I
go announswer, go ahead and I'll close the office. I'll
meet you in the capital tomorrow. Yes, well, what brings
you here, professor? Oh, sit down, mister ballerh thanky, sir
by it affair.
Speaker 11 (16:47):
Has just returned from the proving Grand General. He supervised
the loading of the torpedo ray this morning.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
Everything was alright, I hope perfect.
Speaker 11 (16:55):
Your rarmy mechanics seem very proud they're going to handle
the torpedo by themselves.
Speaker 5 (17:00):
Of course, we'll be anxious to know how it comes out.
Speaker 4 (17:03):
Oh aren't you going to be the demonstration, Professor or Kenny?
Speaker 10 (17:07):
I'm afraid not. Uh.
Speaker 5 (17:08):
Another engagement unfortunately prevents my attending.
Speaker 4 (17:11):
Where as I see MM but I can't understand how
anything can be more important to you than seeing your
own invention demonstrated before the highest officials of our government.
Speaker 11 (17:18):
I admit I'm terribly disappointed in general. However, I've left
instructions for a teller of a message to be sent
for me at my hotel.
Speaker 10 (17:25):
We mean it. The demonstration is.
Speaker 4 (17:27):
Over, Oh, Professor, I'm not sure that this test should
be made without your being there.
Speaker 10 (17:33):
What do you mean suppose.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
I order you to go at knowledge? Impossible? Why impossible?
Is to I must excuse my.
Speaker 10 (17:39):
Left, General Levitt easy, little excited?
Speaker 4 (17:42):
Excited? But what about ookay, Professor r hlis, Why don't
you wanna go to the proving ground?
Speaker 3 (17:47):
Must I repeat my previous statement?
Speaker 4 (17:49):
Is stalling and hedging is very suspicious. Why, George, you
will go whether you want you or not.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
Don't test that point. If Kevin, you can't give me orders.
Speaker 9 (17:56):
In my own UF.
Speaker 10 (18:00):
You hit him too hard by luff.
Speaker 8 (18:02):
His head was bleeding.
Speaker 5 (18:04):
He struck the desk when he fell. Yeah, the Draga
may just clapped the mind of the door. He knows something, Professor, Yeah,
you fool suspect something? But how and you've got to
wait quickly?
Speaker 10 (18:13):
By wonder the Lieutenant.
Speaker 5 (18:14):
Wilson has talked like you said, he's still under your
hypnotic experience. Perhaps it would be better if Lieutenant Wilson
died yes, we are going to Madre him. Oh I
really suggest that to kill himself. Oh, by luff, if
you'll tie up the general look at him? What General Levitt,
he's stepped.
Speaker 4 (18:40):
Oh?
Speaker 8 (18:41):
Yes, General Levit's office, Margot hm. No one seemed to
be here, the monks, that's un General is here less
than an hour ago, General General Levitt. No here on
the corner of the desk blood the word Commissioner western
at once turning. Something has happened to General Levit?
Speaker 7 (18:58):
Yes, anything else?
Speaker 8 (18:59):
Yes, I understand it's called Mendo South Pierre. I will
heard Professor Rachealis and Balaf talking about meeting on a
freight of there. Where you go, I'm going to the jail.
I'm going to make one more desperate attempt to get
John Wilson to talk. You've got to find out what
this is all about before it's too late.
Speaker 5 (19:20):
You want me to wait here at the jail because rachelus.
Speaker 8 (19:23):
Now go down to South Pear Balaf.
Speaker 10 (19:25):
I want to play alone with Lieutenant Wilson. Yes, I'll
follow off that I've taken care of him. Alright, At first,
I'll collect the bagga.
Speaker 5 (19:31):
You what you remember only this Lieutenant Wilson. She always
my eyes in front of you. Yes, you will forever
do what I tell you.
Speaker 3 (19:48):
To 'em stuff, leave me alone.
Speaker 5 (19:52):
No, never, look, Wilson, see what I have a knife here?
Take it now.
Speaker 8 (20:03):
Listen to me.
Speaker 5 (20:05):
You are disgraced, your family disgraced. You have nothing more
to live for. Faith, I have nothing more to live for.
Speaker 9 (20:18):
I I have.
Speaker 5 (20:21):
Nothing more to live for than broad the knife across
your lists. It's easy, cop, John, don't do it.
Speaker 3 (20:33):
Shuttle is trying to make me. I've got you. Did
you feel a knife yourself?
Speaker 9 (20:41):
Yes, you've got me before your blood is being shed?
Remember what I told you? Gone something? Something's happened to me.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
I feel like I can talk.
Speaker 9 (20:53):
Now, and talk. Tell me what you know. I can't
spend its weaker.
Speaker 3 (20:57):
I can't see you.
Speaker 12 (20:59):
I don't know who you are, but you've got to
help me. I first suspected archaelis in his crowd when
when I saw that the steering mechanism of the flying.
Speaker 3 (21:06):
Torpedo had an extra attachment.
Speaker 12 (21:09):
Yes, you see, the flying torpedo is supposed to be
steered by radio beams from an accompanying plane. But this
extra attachment I'm talking about would would render the radio
beams ineffective. In other words, the rudder is set so
the torpedo will fly in a complete circle and come
back and strike the point from which it was set
like a boomerang.
Speaker 9 (21:25):
And the demonstration today it will wipe not all the
important government officials.
Speaker 3 (21:28):
Yes, that's their plan.
Speaker 12 (21:30):
Just as I made the discovery, Achaelis came in into
the workshop. I accused him, and he put me under
this spell. I tried to talk, but I couldn't.
Speaker 9 (21:37):
Never mind that, I'll get in touch with Commissioner Weston
and him go to the proving grounds. He can stop
the test right of this flying torpedo if he gets
soon enough.
Speaker 3 (22:02):
See idea having us wait around here at the South pare.
Speaker 8 (22:05):
They don't seem to be anything starting. All the guys
were supposed to pick.
Speaker 5 (22:07):
Up two words for the name of Professor rak Kalis
and balaf uh foreigners.
Speaker 4 (22:12):
Huh yeah, what are they gonna do?
Speaker 9 (22:14):
Make a getaway?
Speaker 10 (22:14):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (22:15):
Commissioner western just said to make sure we.
Speaker 3 (22:17):
Got on, that's all. Uh.
Speaker 4 (22:18):
If it had been that important, don't you think the
Commissioner would have come down here himself, And.
Speaker 5 (22:21):
He was coming, but he got a last minute call
to go over the place where they're trying out that
new flying torpedo.
Speaker 3 (22:25):
Oh I read about that, all these inventions.
Speaker 9 (22:28):
What about somebody coming down the dock?
Speaker 6 (22:30):
Here?
Speaker 7 (22:31):
You?
Speaker 9 (22:32):
Hey? Stop where you all?
Speaker 8 (22:33):
Right?
Speaker 3 (22:33):
Shoot? What's this all about? Nothing?
Speaker 10 (22:38):
Where are you going?
Speaker 4 (22:39):
That is my business?
Speaker 6 (22:41):
What's your name?

Wilson has been proved, and the integrity of the men
who protect our liberty and again vindicated.
Speaker 2 (25:34):
And now here is John Buckley, Blue Cole's Heating expert
with helpful heating hints for you.
Speaker 14 (25:40):
Thank you, Ken Roberts, good evening friends. I've received numerous
letters from homeowners asking what they can do to prevent
chimney loss. Wasted heat that goes up the chimney instead
of through the pipes of your heating system is really
a simple matter to prevent this, and you will save
money on your fuel build too. The next time you
(26:02):
refuel the fire, move the handle of the turn damper,
that plate like damper inside the smoke pipe one sixteenth
of an inch toward the closed upright position. Then, if
the fire still burns too freely close the turn damper
another sixteenth of an inch. Repeat this operation until you've
(26:23):
found the correct adjustment. Once you've found this ideal adjustment
of the turn damper, mark the position on the smoke
pipe with a piece of chalk or something that can
be plainly seen. Then leave the damper set at that mark.
Remember the near the turn damper is set to a
closed position, the smaller the chimney loss and the greater
(26:45):
the volume of useful heat. If you follow the suggestions
that I give you every Sunday on this program, they
should enable you to heat your home with the utmost
efficiency and economy. However, if you're experiencing trouble with your
heating plant, call your nearish Blue Coal dealer and ask
him to send a John Barclay trained service man to
(27:06):
your home to inspect your furnace. This service is free
to all Blue Coal customers.
Speaker 2 (27:12):
I thank you, Thank you, mister Barclay. And here's the
official telegram advising of the award the American Police Review
