Brookelyn Farthing was 18 years old and had just graduated high school when she disappeared from a house on the 100 block of Dillon Court in Berea, Kentucky. She was last seen leaving a party after being offered a ride home from an older acquaintance, someone who her ex boyfriend had been friends with. Instead of taking Brookelyn home, this man took her to his foreclosed house at 4am, where there was no electricity or running water.

After attempting to arrange a ride home from family members, Brookelyn makes arrangements for her ex boyfriend to pick her up after he got off work at 6:30am. She told him that she would be fine to wait for him until then. But at 4:30am, Brookelyn began sending a string of alarming and disturbing text messages to him, telling him that she was scared and asking him to hurry. An hour and a half later, he received a message from her stating that she was fine and that she was going to another party in another county... at 5:30am.

When her family and friends couldn't reach Brookelyn for several hours after she hadn't shown up to her plans for the next day, they managed to reach the man who was supposed to have given her a ride home from the party the night before. This is when her family learns that Brookelyn apparently vanished after a suspicious house fire in the man's home.
