Philanthropy can be an important part of the brands of
companies and the reputation of executives. Welcome back to another
Crisis Management Minute. I'm Edward Siegel, author of Crisis Ahead
and The Crisis Casebook. I'm also a Leadership Strategies senior
contributor for Forbes dot Com. There are best practices for

using philanthropy to help create brands and reinforce the reputation
of executives. Philanthropy should be authentic, genuine, and done for
their right reasons. If not, the donations could create a crisis.
Giving money or stocks to worthy causes isn't the only
way that executives can be philanthropic. They can also volunteer

their time, skills, and expertise. But no matter what they
do or how they do it, it's always better for
companies and executives to do something to help others instead
of sitting on the sidelines and doing nothing at all.
