(00:17):
I don't know what happened there,Sorry, guys. I actually I flipped
off the opener in the background arethe same and that one was my fault
there. Part of the storm ofthis quaint podcast is that, um,
nothing is as it should be nomatter how much he prepares. So right,
(00:39):
yeah, yeah, it's it's it'sjust chaos over here for usual.
That's the standard crule Summer Camp chaos. Yeah ecc um. So anyway,
UM, as I mentioned you arelistening too, we're watching Cruel Summer Camp.
(01:03):
We are part of the Antler Queensslash Cyborg TV family. UM,
we're currently going through a rebranding, but so you'll if you're here for just
Curl Summer Um, we started withcovering the Antler Queens and then expand or
covering Yellow Jackets excuse me with theAntler Queens and are expanding and rebranding and
(01:30):
so you may see some name changesand stuff, but the Antler Queens and
Curl Summer Camp aren't going anywhere.Um I am, I'm Kelly. I
kind of started the whole thing, and I basically just uh enjoy talking about
(01:51):
TV shows and on a very inclusiveplatform, and I'm here with my co
host Pamela. Hello, Hello, what's up Pamela? Nothing much today,
I'm Luke Chambers. Baby. Igot his denim jacket I bought. I
bought this jacket for my boyfriend. And then I realized that Juughead Jones wears
(02:17):
this jacket like most of Riverdale, which I have watched, So I think
I like subconsciously just wanted him todress like Cole Sprouse honestly, but that
I saw Luke was wearing it thisweek, and so it was like,
oh, great, perfect. Soit's like, Adam, where's that jacket?
(02:37):
Can you bring it over? Igot this podcast recording. It felt
kind of bad, but he waslike, it's okay, girl, you
got this specific thing going for yourpodcast where you dressed like the characters.
So I understand, and I waslike great, thank You know wait,
(03:00):
Cole Spruce, he's Cole Spruce, the one that was on Friends. Yes,
yes, yeah, see he wasRoss's kid. Yes. So anytime
I think of Cole Spruce, Ijust think of him as as as this
really little boy. I had abig crush on him on Sweet Life of
(03:23):
Zack and Cody, especially specifically him, not his brother Um. And then
you know, Riverdale rolled around, and of course I watched Riverdale, and
then you know, now here Iam watching Cruel Summer Nice. Um so
(03:47):
I just, uh, by theway, my nickname I pulled the record.
Um, I took from the scenein this episode where I Luke means
Tom. You know, he's talkingto Jack sheriff Jack about pulling the rip
chord and blowing up his life byjoining the Coastguard. And I did actually
(04:12):
pull the rip chord and blow upmy life. And I don't know if
I'm living the dream, but um, I kind of had to do it.
I I mean I I guess hedidn't have to, but I mean
I really needed to. So Ijust did it. And I'm glad I
(04:38):
did it it definitely, like wouldnot have undone it. Undone it if
I could undo it. I don'tknow if I'm living the dream, but
I'm definitely glad I did it.My wife is much better for it.
So I don't know what that reallysays. I mean, it's not something
I'm overly proud of or ashamed of. It's really neither here nor there.
(05:00):
So it's not really an accomplishment ora regret. It's kind of something that
happened, So it's not really anythingexciting. I wish it could be.
I need I need like I needlike a really strong I pulled the record
story, you know, not onethat's more like just like a parachooting story.
Yeah, yeah, not like anot like a yeah. I mean
(05:27):
it was just like a circumstantial thing, like I didn't have to do it,
but it was the best choice.Um yeah, I don't know that
sounded. I'm I'm rambling. Now. Have you ever pulled the record and
blew up and blew up your life? Um hmm, not really, I
(05:48):
don't think so, nothing like sodrastic. I haven't done anything extremely drastic,
so I don't think so. Yeah, I don't think I've pulled a
rip chord. What's a rip chordthat's on a parachute? Right, Yeah,
Okay, I've also never been ina parachute. I've never jumped out
(06:10):
of an airplane, and I don'tthink I will. Don't think that for
me. I would like to,but I don't think I can, just
because like I don't think, Imean, I don't know, like just
the way I could be wrong aboutit, but just the way like that
(06:31):
it looks like how for what I'veseen, I think that I don't know.
I mean, it just looks likethe landing you have to have it
looks like it might be a littlerough on the ankles, and I have
really weak ankles. Yeah, Icould that because I'm like, I'm not
sure. Because the people that arelike strapped to someone who knows what they're
(06:53):
doing, it's like, so whatdo you just like land on their back
like you're just like holdly on inyour feet are like, you know,
yeah, anyway, Yeah, Imean, if it's if it's safe for
me to do it with my bustedup ankles, I would. I would
totally jump out of a plane.I would not go bungee jumping, but
I would jump out of a plane. No fresh Prince of bel Air did
(07:16):
that in for me when Trevor diedon the bungee cort, I say,
thank you. I'm horri fine.Yeah, I don't know that I could
look down and jump out of anairplane. I feel like my fear of
heights has been growing the older Iget. Oh no, yeah, I'm
progressively getting more and more skier, skiered. He is skeered, m scared
(07:42):
of heights. So I don't knowthat I could jump out of an airplane.
My boyfriend really wants to do that, but he might just have to
do that by himself. Yeah,I am. Yeah. I Like there's
all this stuff that I've wanted todo that I've never done, mostly because
I met my husband. I metmy husband when I was like twenty eight,
(08:07):
and we spent so much time together, Like I mean, we spent
almost every day together since we met, and um, it just he's terrified
of heights and like I could neverget him to go to go to amusement
parks are like I mean, youknow, he's never wanted to do like
(08:31):
he never wanted to do anything likeI don't know, Um, like he
wouldn't go he wouldn't even go parachailing. Um, he wouldn't go zip lining,
Like you know, he won't doany of that stuff. I've never
been zip lining. I'm not surethat I would do that either, because
(08:54):
I'm just like I don't know,I don't I don't like not having any
think under my feet. I don'tlike like if the zip line gets just
stops and you gotta like you know, kind of like rock to get it
going again. Like who are thesepeople that set up a giant, giant
(09:16):
cord running through the air. Youknow, I don't know, see,
I really enjoy feeling like I'm gonnadie. I like like a roller coaster
that like I know, what's youknow, if it's like a roller coaster
I've been on like fifty times,Like I don't mind it. If it's
something like yeah, like a zipline or like I don't I would like
(09:37):
to think I could go parasailing.I don't think I could. Now,
I think you and you and Adamsshould go do the fun things and me
and your husband can watch your guysand wave from grab from the safe grounds.
That's hilarious. M yeah, Iwant to The one thing though that
(09:58):
I won't the other the other thingthat I won't do though, is skycamping.
Like that is just that look horrifying. Do you know what that is?
No? What is that? That'swhere it's like Okay, So you
know how those like covered hammocks hmmm, um, that you can get to
like keep mosquitoes out or whatever.Um if you just want to lay in
(10:20):
it hammock, like you know, not worry about mosquitos. So you basically
sleep in one of those way upin the air like with nothing under you.
Um yeah, just like suspended whatI don't know what? Yeah,
(10:43):
No, yeah I don't I don'tknow what that is, but I still
won't do it. Yeah me neither. Um So, anyway, what did
you, um, why did youthink of this episode? I really liked
this episode, probably like one ofmy favorites this season. You know,
(11:05):
a lot of really great details,a lot of great performances by the actor
plane Steve. I feel like he'skilling it in his role as as Luke's
dad, and his dialogue is justlike he's just the perfect jerk, you
know, like he's so aggressive andrude and like he makes a lot of
(11:31):
really great choices. This episode. We learn a lot about Luke from his
perspective that's very enlightening. Is Lukeoff the hook? No, he's still
in big trouble in my book,so Steve, Steve, huge trouble.
Still no sign in my my PolarBear costume unfortunately, So I feel like
(11:56):
that's not going to happen by thefinale, but who knows. Um it.
I absolutely loved this episode so muchI wanted to marry it, like
just oh my god, it wasso good. Um, it kind of
(12:18):
made me it really kind of likeI don't know, like I don't know
what to think about how he sawIsabella, Like it kind of angered me,
but at the same time, likeit just because I mean, the
(12:39):
whole thing was just from his perspective. Yeah, Um, you know,
I mean she basically just this wholeepisode just seemed like I mean, she
just seemed like a like a scheming, conniving beach um who wanted nothing but
(13:01):
to get him out of the picture. But because the whole thing was from
his that's how he saw her.Um. And it's so it wasn't like,
you know, if somebody was lookingat this episode from just on the
surface, they'd feel like, whyis she acting like this? That's that's
not how the show is trying toportray her. That's just how he saw
(13:22):
her. Um. And like it'sI don't I don't know if it was
like I don't know if we shouldtake if we should put more weight into
(13:46):
his insecure because she she does obviouslyshe she does. She is a little
possessive with Megan, um, butit's it's not quite to the extent that
he see her. Yeah, Imean, I feel like us seeing some
(14:07):
of the conversations we saw for thevery first time. You know, it's
not like they're doing well. Imean, they did kind of play back
the Christmas party from a different perspective, you know, but I mean some
of the conversations, like the Halloweencostume stuff and like where Megan kind of
stood Luke up and she was outwith Isabella. That like we were seeing
(14:31):
those for the first time. AndI mean, I do think Isabella has
been Like last episode, we talkedabout how she was feeling, and that's
like as Luke and Megan like hadjust gotten together. So like now Luke
and Megan have been together for twomonths or October it was like August,
(14:58):
so you know, like three months, four months have gone by, and
now, I mean, I dobelieve that Isabella could be trying to sabotage
Lucan Megan at this point, likeshe's just like fed up. I Like,
I definitely do think it is Luke'sperspective, and like, you know,
(15:22):
I don't know if the finale we'regoing to see something from like Isabella's
perspective or even like part of itfrom her perspective. I would like that,
But I also feel like if it'sthe finale. They just need to
tie everything up with a bow,you know, So I'm afraid we're not
going to get it. But yeah, no, I do think Isabella is
(15:43):
trying to ruin the relationship though.Okay, okay, but yeah, I
like, I think that they didsuch a good job and and like you
said, I don't He's still totallyon the hook for me, Like I'm
(16:03):
not giving him any grace here.Okay, maybe a tiny bit of grace,
but only in the sense that youreally see how much he was molded
um, which you know, whichis where like the title of the episode
really comes into play here, themiseducation of lu Chambers. Like you see
(16:27):
how how his father is in hisbrother, and like the pressure that they
that they put on him to justbe an absolute douchebag. Yeah, And
like I was, I was lookingat this, and like I was watching
(16:49):
the scenes with him and Jack, and I'm thinking, like, could you
imagine if like, because Luke,Luke is different than Brent in the sense
that Brent just seems inherently scummy.Yeah, Luke doesn't. Luke still,
(17:10):
in my opinion, doesn't seem doesn't. I don't know, maybe he is
inherently scummy, but I don't know, there's still something that now, you
know what, He's just he's justa charmer, that's all it is.
Because he's still he still doesn't seemto really have any remorse. I think
(17:32):
he's still like a little bit moresensitive than them. Like when Brent insults
him or hurts him, he likehas a really hard time just like letting
it go and move on, WhereasI feel like if Brent had a brother
like Brent, he would probably justkind of like roll with the punches a
(17:52):
little bit more and like be ableto just like shrug it off and move
on. You know. Luke hasa really hard time just like letting the
stuff with his father and Brent go. I think, um yeah, it
just like it just made me think. I mean, can you imagine if
(18:14):
if Jack were his father. Ijust think he would be such a different
person. Yeah, yeah, forsure. Oh my gosh, if Brent
wasn't his brother, like point blankyou know, yeah, yeah, it's
it's it's really yeah, it's reallya shame. Um. Well yeah,
why don't we uh, why don'twe get into it? Um? So
(18:41):
it starts out really cute and getssad at the same time. Um,
it's September. It's uh, butit it's we're starting off with like,
basically the whole thing is taking placein the fall of nineteen ninety nine,
with the exception of the scenes whereLuke is UM in the winter of nineteen
(19:07):
ninety nine or yeah, winter ofnineteen ninety nine, nineteen ninety nine turning
two thousand. Yeah. Um,So Luke is watching a tape from his
from one of his mom's birthdays.UM, and it's really cute. They're
the boys and Megan are little, and they're running around and they're talking to
(19:32):
the camera and um, her nameis Jane. UM. There's a cake
that's his happy birthday Jane and UMStephen Jane are being really cute and affectionate
and Jane is very adorable. UM. And it's just they're just a really
cute, sweet family, and it'sit's really sad. Luke's just kind of
(19:55):
watching the video and crying and UM. We then see Luke relaxing on a
float in the pool and we heara bittersweet symphony playing HMMA, my babes
um. The song that plays atthe very end of Cruel Intentions. Oh
(20:18):
okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, you're right. Yeah. Um,
Brent flips him and holds him underlike an absolutely douchebag, and Steve makes
him stop and then tells Luke thathe's being dramatic when he when he tells
Brent he could have drowned, likeyeah, this is christ what the fuck?
(20:42):
Um, they're they're honoring their mom'sforty third birthday. M hm um,
they're having cake and it's been tenyears since she passed away. Um,
and apparently like we're talking about somelike some story when they were in
(21:07):
a water park and she jumped intoa fountain with all her clothes on and
like after the park had closed andlike some guy came out with yellow at
her so shout the fountain like crazy, like okay, yeah she was yeah,
(21:30):
okay, she was fun. Butyeah yeah I don't know. Um,
but uh yeah, Brent's just beinga total douche bag. And you
know, it's it's He tells Lukethat, um, he kind of reminds
(21:52):
him of her mm hmmm a littlebit, like he has her sense of
humor, and Brent men, yeah, it's uh you, um what did
you say? He says, Uh, you're definitely more in touch with your
feminine side, and you'll probably bestarting your period sues. Yeah, awful,
(22:15):
awful when it's like, that's probablythe nicest thing Steve has said to
Luke in like a pretty long time. And also I feel like that could
be part of the reason that it'shard for Steve to connect with Luke is
because it makes him sad because Lukereminds him of his wife. Yeah yeah,
(22:37):
um, yeah for sure, umand uh yeah, and then they
go off to play tennis. Um, it's just it's a it's a really
interesting scene. I mean, it'sjust you know, you can you definitely
(23:00):
can kind of see the dynamic andkind of imagine how things would be different
if she was still there. Youknow. It's it's really it's it's really
a shame. I mean, andwho knows, like maybe she maybe she
was you know, I mean,we don't know anything about her other than
you know, she she seemed lovelyand adorable on the two seconds of the
(23:21):
video that we saw her, butyou know, we know nothing about her.
She could have been a terrible person. Who knows. But um,
you know, I mean, somethinghad to have influenced Luke to like have
some sort of side that wasn't exactlylike Brent and Steve. I mean,
there's still some part of him that'spulling at him to to, you know,
(23:45):
want to not be a total douchebagall the time, that is getting
suffocated out by that other side.Yeah. But so we see we see
Isabella and Luke and Megan at thepier talking about their first day of school.
(24:07):
Now I take issue. I'm takingissue with something. Um, this
was nineteen ninety nine. Okay, this was like a few years after I
graduated high school. I assume thatthis was, Like I'm assuming me didn't
go home and change that. Thiswas right after school. I went to
(24:32):
a public school. There's no wayin hell that any of the schools in
my area would have let Isabella wearthat dress. It was a huge dress.
I mean, I didn't think therewas anything wrong with it. Um,
(24:53):
Like I don't think I mean,I don't think there was anything wrong
with it. I mean, likeit was, she hardly had any skin,
I mean, she hardly had anyskin showing it was it actually was
fairly conservative, but you know,it just wasn't It was very not school
(25:14):
code nine nine. Um. Imean Jesus. I mean, sleeveless shirts
were barely acceptable. I like, addressed with cutouts would not be acceptable.
But I appreciated the fact that itwas very very very y t u k
(25:36):
um, very very spun on forfor the the year. It was very
cute. But yeah, if shewere at my school, she definitely would
have been she definitely would have beenin a dean's office. She would have
been put in a dean's office Tshirt and shorts. Yeah, I was
gonna say she'd end up in oneof those like oversized T shirts you have
to wear when you break the dresscode. Yeah, did you ever?
(25:57):
Did you ever get put in oneof those? No? No? I
Okay, at my school, youweren't. There was like you weren't allowed
to wear spaghetti straps. I don'teven think they had a rule about like
cutouts per se, but they probablywould have flagged it too, but it
(26:18):
was more like spaghetti straps or thingsthat were strapless. But generally like you
could get away with it if youhad like a cardigan on or something like
that. So that's what I woulddo, is Like, So one time
I was at school and okay, long story short, I found out I
had a kidney stone, but Iwas like in terrible pain, and so
(26:44):
I went down to the nurse's officeand they pretty much just like gave me
advil and I was waiting for mymom to pick me up to literally like
go to the emergency room. AndI was in like a tube talk up
dress and I had like a littlecardigan with it, and the nurse,
(27:04):
nurse Dottie was her name, shewas like, also, it's like we're
literally on our way to the emergencyroom. I mean, like agony.
She's like also just so you know, um, you are breaking dress codes.
So and it's like I was asenior. I'm like, are you
kidding me? Like bye bye,I gotta go to the hospital like flag
(27:29):
me later. So I didn't getin trouble. I didn't get in trouble
for that one, damn. Soyeah, you know, like I never
I never broke dress code. ButI remember there was this girl in my
school. I felt so bad forher because again this was the nineties,
(27:56):
like we were just moving into gettingair conditioning and well and yeah, um
and so not even all classrooms wereair conditioned. Um, like we would
have those you know, giant boxfans or whatever in the classes that weren't,
but still it, you know, like who knows. Um, I
(28:22):
felt so the girl in my school. I felt so bad for her.
She was constantly constantly getting getting sentdown to the dean's office to get sweatpants
to put on because her shorts weretoo short. Well, her shorts were
too short because she was like sixfeet tall. I mean, she was
(28:52):
taller than most of the boys inschool. Like, I mean, this
girl, like she's hot, likeyou know what I mean, she's probably
sweaty because there's no she needs towear shorts. Yeah, and like and
she would just I mean, andshe would just wear like it didn't matter.
She's like I can't. She's like, what am I gonna do?
Like what do they want me todo? I can't find shorts that fit,
(29:12):
Like I can't find shorts that areany longer. That's ridiculous. Yeah,
um but uh yeah, so anyway, um, yeah, Isabella's Uh.
Isabella was so excited to have alocker, but unfortunately it smells like
bologney, of course, because youknow, she didn't have she didn't have
(29:37):
a locker in boarding school, soshe was really excited to have one.
But it smelled like bologney. Um. But yeah, but apparently they all
do for some reason. Um,I was kind of bummed that we didn't
get to see that, we didn'tactually get to see them at school.
Um yeah, it is like straightchange scene, like the summeriness of it
(30:03):
all, start to leave, leavethe show because it feels like a very
summary show. And like, Imean this jacket, like the stuff that
Luke and Megan are wearing, likeprogressively throughout this episode gets more and more
fall Um. So, I don'tknow. That for me was like kind
of you know, It's like Iknew eventually we would hit a point where
(30:27):
they're starting school, but it wasjust like, I don't know, it
was kind of funny. I yeah, I really wish we got to see
them on the first day. Yeahyeah, me too. Um so she
is Isabella is reading Cosmotive or Cosmotivemagazine, Cosmotive you know the famous publication,
(30:51):
Yeah exactly. Um and uh andand reading a compatibility quiz. I
remember I was dating this guy whotold me that he was dating some girl
who broke up with him because heum, because of a quiz that she
(31:15):
took in Constropolitans that's so funny.Yeah, sign and she got one.
So she's like, okay, Dentaking it to heart. Yeah yeah apparently,
um but yeah, it's it's it'sit's kind of funny like the so
(31:40):
um Luke apparently did not realize thatMegan does not want to play. Um
wait, what was that that sheonly wants to play for like an hour
at a time and not for anentire weekend? Video games? Like there
was one in particular, I thinkit was Mario Kart okay, Okay,
(32:01):
I couldn't remember. I didn't Ididn't jot it down. But she's like,
yeah, well yeah, it's funfor like an hour. See.
I I was kind of surprised thatbecause she's such a computer person, I'm
kind of surprised she's not more intovideo games. Um but I mean I'm
not into I don't like video games. Yeah, um yeah. I I've
(32:30):
never been much of a game ormyself either. Like I like puzzles,
like if there's if there's puzzle typegames, like I'll play touch hers all
day long. I'm just like notvery good at like controllers and like hitting
things on like a timed I can'tlike ever get past like little levels of
(32:52):
things. I'm just I stink atit. So yeah, I get I
get where Megan's coming from. Andalso it's so funny. Her boyfriend's like,
yeah, you love playing video games. It's like, um, no,
I don't. But that's like sucha I don't know. That's just
such a funny little like, oh, this is my boy boyfriend's perception of
(33:16):
me, you know. Yeah yeah, um yeah, and uh like they
have a little fat over um overlike, you know, Luke, she
(33:37):
tells him he's more of a dreamerthan he realizes. And I agree.
I think I think Megan is arealist and Luke is a dreamer. Yeah,
oh yeah, for sure, forsure. Um yeah absolutely. But
h so you know, the douchebrow has come by and you know,
(33:57):
say some douche brow things and askhim, ask Luke if he wants to
hang um and uh he like theyyou know, they're um it's like he
decides he's gonna hang out with thegirls instead, and they were like all
right, who was before? Bros? We get it um And Isabelle is
(34:19):
like, hey, you can goif you want. We'll hold it up
all by ourselves. I love thatline, Sonny. Also, you know.
I mean I think she's I reallydo think she's like fed up of
the Luke and Megan of it allat this moment. Yeah yeah, probably
like I you know, and andI didn't I get it, Like I
(34:39):
get it though, Like she she'sturning a new school and you know,
she made this awesome friend and um, and you know it's just it's it's
a weird situation. Like she shewas dating Luke um and she you know
(35:00):
this, she had this best friendand they're both together. Now it's a
weird situation, oh for sure. But um but yeah it's uh Lukes,
like I'd rather hang with hang withyou guys anyways, like that this is
trash. It throw us down themegs and it is trash. But you
(35:22):
know, don't like like that kindof made me trash. I know,
I like it kind of made mebad though, like it is trash,
but you know, don't yet thereUm nice, Yeah exactly. Um,
but Isabella knew that they were gonnaflunk that compatibility to quiz that yeah,
oh totally totally. Um. SoLuke and Megan are pulling up to Luke's
(35:47):
house um after school, and LukeUm lucas telling some like telling some stupid
story about like Brent's frat is fightingwith some other frat and all their cars
got egged. And he's really kindof he's actually kind of bummed that he's
(36:08):
gone because like, as much asit sucks having him home, it's even
worse having him gone because now hehas to try to make conversation with his
dad and they have absolutely nothing totalk about. Um. And he said
(36:29):
that they like they put on ahe watched a documentary the other day about
hedgehogs just so they wouldn't have totry to make conversation so funny, um,
and it made me really sad.He like, they're going on a
field trip for school and he hadto put down his emergency contact, and
(36:53):
he put down Megan. Um.And he said it's like he basically like
he uses her as his emergency contactfor everything. And he tells her that,
like she's the one who's believed inhim the most ever since his mom
(37:15):
died, which has made me reallysad. Yeah for me, I was
like, oh, so she's pseudoMommy. Oh god, your girlfriend is
pseudo Mommy's love. Oh man,oh good ouch. Also, Megan is
(37:36):
like really excited by this field trip. She was like, can I be
your plus one? And I'm like, one, that's not how field trips
work. Yeah, that's never howthey've worked. And then he's like you
must be the first person that's everbeen excited to go on a field trip,
Like what are you talking about?Field trips were awesome. Field trips
(37:57):
are awesome. You get to skipschool to go do something else and not
like actually do work. Yeah,So that whole conversation I was like what
it was like, Yeah, whatuniverse of high school is this? And
they're going to like a planet areum. That's like fun, Yeah, that's
super cool. Like museums were thebest field trips. It was super cool.
(38:23):
Um yeah, like yeah, thosewere always my favorite field field trips.
Anytime we were going to a museumthat was I was super excited.
Um, except there was there wasonly one field trip that I took in
high school that was better than amuseum field trip, and that's when we
(38:43):
went to Graceland Cemetery, which islike this really well known cemetery in Chicago.
Um and um, we're like alot of famous chicagoans or are buried
and stuff, and we had todo a Um. It was from my
creative writing class and we had todo like a creative writing project um,
(39:08):
based on like on people who wereburied there. And it was like it
was so cool. It was supercool. I loved it. Um.
But so yeah. UM. Soafter that, Luke visits Steve at work,
(39:28):
um, and he's got this bigthree D model set up and he's
explaining the Northland project to him,um and trying to get him excited about
business. And he's like, you'regonna learn all about this at Ed Branson
and dah blah blah blah blah, and know. Yeah, his plan is
(39:49):
that he's gonna build a casino intown, which is hilarious because I feel
like townships always hate when there's gonnabe a casino build town, Like they
hate when casinos come to town becauseit attracts, like, you know,
potentially cede people. And but it'sso funny because this is Steve's take on
(40:12):
it. So he's like, oh, well, it's gonna bring tourists and
other people from town and you know, and I feel like he's gonna work
some condos in there or something. So I'm like, oh, you're like
the bad guy, you know, what I mean, like in the like
construction like of things happening in thetown. Like Steve is the bad guy.
(40:37):
They're like, what about those localbusiness and he's like, I'm gonna
build a high rise and create somegambling problems in this town. It's like
so funny, and it's like, why do you think your son would be
interested in that? You and alsolike do you want him interested in like
this casino? Yeah? Goofy goofyoh man. But yeah, he actually
(41:08):
tells Steve about wanting to join theCoastguard, which that's the first time we've
heard that. Yeah, it wasfunny to hear Luke's justification. He's like,
well, one, I feel likeit's the influence of shadowing a cop
all summer is now he's interested inkind of like essentially law enforcement. He's
(41:34):
like, well, I like lawenforcement, yeah, and I like the
water, so I'm gonna go bea coastguard. But okay, not to
yuck his yum, but I feellike that's not a very good reason to
be a coastguard. Now. It'snot a very good reason to be a
coastguard. And maybe I'm dumb, but like I he's like, oh,
(41:59):
I want to spend time on thewater. I'm like, I don't know
that you are spending like just timechilling on the water, Like I'm sure
like you're doing paperwork, get likeyou know what I mean, there's like
the office end of just like there'slike the office end of being a police
officer. I'm sure there's like theback end stuff of being a coast guard
(42:23):
that like he's not gonna be likechilling on a boat all day, but
now, no, I mean,if he wants to be on a boat
all day, he could always likeI mean he could Hey, I watched
Below Deck on Bravo. He couldalways go be a YACHTI okay, that's
that's actually what I was thinking. And I'm like, you know, did
(42:45):
they not want to give him thatstoryline because the OC literally tried to do
that with Ryan that he was like, yeah, I'm just gonna like go
work on a boat now, andthey were like Ryan, no, yeah,
But I'm like that would make waymore sense to me. Yea if
(43:06):
he was like, I'm I wantto see the world and follow Megan when
she's in Madrid, yeah, andI'm gonna go work on a boat.
I did kind of like the ideaof their being payoff to like Jack's influence
on Luke, I like that,I just don't think it's logic for wanting
(43:30):
to be able. Coast Guard islike all there, Yeah yeah me either,
um either or you know, hecould always go like I don't know,
I mean he could go sell timeshares or something. I don't know.
Yeah, honestly, like he canjust go be like a surfer bro.
(43:53):
Like it's so funny because um,when this pie cast started and we
were only on episode one or two, I was like, I think that
Luke is going to be one ofthose guys that's like music is my passion.
Turns out water is his passion.I was, I guess kind of
(44:15):
close. But yeah, um,but yeah it. Steve is totally not
not having it, and I meanhe's just being such a dick about it.
Oh yeah, and uh you knowhe he's you know, he's all
about defending the defending the the thepatriarchy and and you know, keeping all
(44:42):
the advantages you can in life andand staying on top and of the food
chain and um, you know, just fuck happiness. Yeah, I mean
he pretty much said, like hesays, you sound so naive right now.
Um, if you want to gobe outside, that's that's what golfing
(45:04):
is for, which was very funny. Yeah, I'm like, yeah,
I bet that's that's exactly how menlike Steve c golfing. Yeah. Um,
so I thought that was funny. And then he was like, you
know, uh, you have allthese great things in your life that you're
taking for granted, but like youwill want to live the quality of life
(45:29):
you currently have. Um, ifyou didn't have it, you wouldn't be
happy essentially, And like, ifyou want a wife and a child,
like you have to be able toprovide for them, and like you can't
do that on a military salary, which is just like not very supportive of
(45:49):
course, Like he's never gonna understandwhere he's coming from. Um, but
you know, he just shuts itdown so quick. I mean, I
like, I know people, andthat's so silly. I mean I know
people who actually, like who grewup in wealthy families and had lots of
advantages, but they did not necessarilyaspire to do the same things with their
(46:16):
lives that would allow them to holdon to those those same to that same
lifestyle totally. And they were finewith that. They were perfectly happy.
They went and did what they wanted. Um, you know, they didn't
they didn't even ask for help fromtheir parents or anything. Like their parents
(46:37):
were happy to help them out,but like they didn't need it. They
just went and did what they wantedto do. They lived a more modest
lifestyle and they were perfectly happy aboutit. You know. Um, they
were being true to themselves. That'swhat made them happy. That's what makes
most people happy, like doing whatyou want to do. Like realistically,
(47:01):
I don't think I don't think Lukereally knows what he wants. Yeah,
but it's just like on principle,he should just be like a little bit
more, you know, like Okay, let's talk this through, so like
what aspects of this are interesting toyou? And like why you know,
(47:23):
because like wanting to go to businessschool is just such a hard rite turn
and like not everyone is even equippedfor that. So it's like, come
on, there's got to be whydon't you just like go to college and
study like the environment or like marinebiology. Then you know, it's like
(47:45):
there is a happy medium there whereI think, I mean, we don't
know why who've gotten him to stillbe like, Okay, fine, I'll
go to college and then if Ireally want to do this after three years,
I'll go to the Coast Guards somethinglike that. Yeah, I mean,
we don't know what kind of studenthe is, Like, I mean,
we don't know. He could benear the top of this class.
(48:07):
If he is, you know,he might not be likely to flug to
fuck up at school regardless of whathe majors in. But like, you
know, if he struggles a littlebit more and he has no interest in
being a business major, I meanmaybe that's a huge mistake. So yeah,
(48:29):
it's just they're both not really likethey need to talk about it,
and they're both approaching it not withlike the greatest of consideration. Yeah sure,
but yeah, so he so ofcourse, you know, we see
(48:50):
him at the police station and hegets his his acceptance packet there at the
police station from the post from thecoach guard UM, and he's talking to
Jack about it, and he uh, he basically is telling Jack that like
he plans to to tell Steve theday before he leaves UM. And so,
(49:20):
now do you think that this iswhat the what's involved with the like,
do you think this is what theletter is all about Yeah, I
think so. I think so,And it's it's interesting. I'm curious to
look back on those scenes and seeif there's any I don't know, like
(49:46):
performance in Jack's face, like withthose scenes with Megan where he's interrogating her
about it, because I mean,Sureley on his end, he has to
be putting the you know, puttingthe dots together. Yeah. Um,
I totally think that's what it whatit was. Yeah. It's also just
(50:09):
like so funny to me. Likeseason one, um, Jeanette's like favorite
hobby is just like breaking into people'shat like just going into people's houses and
walking around like, oh weird, that's a little kookie. And it's like,
oh Luke, um Luke's uh,you know father real father figure is
(50:36):
just like a cop he's friends withand he hangs out at the police station
a lot. It's like that's justit's just so strange. It's like,
I'm glad he has someone like thatin his life, but it's like,
what, yeah, why is itlike this? Um? There was a
(51:01):
comment on there was actually an interestingcomment on our YouTube that somebody left from
Eddie Kane. They're making it seemlike whatever the motive to kill Luke was
because of something he did. Ithink he I think he gets killed because
(51:22):
of something he finds out, probablysomething to do with his dad and the
sheriff, because I ain't forget.I ain't forgot when Megan saw the sheriff
at the bar and he handed someguy money on some shady shit. I'm
just saying, so, yeah,we and we've never resolved who that man
(51:43):
was or what was happening. Yeah, so yeah, I'm not I'm not
sure what that's all about. Buta lot of people keep saying, like,
what if Luke's not really dead, but we saw Steve identify his body
and Jack Jack is just helping himfake death. Maybe it's if Steve hadn't
(52:10):
identified his body, then I wouldsay, maybe that's a possibility. You
know, Honestly, the idea ofLuke not being dead has really like crossed
my mind many times during this season. But I just like the body identification,
(52:34):
and I mean, so what soJack faked Luke being dead, gets
his dad to identify the body andis interrogating all these people just like for
the for the bit of it all, you know what I mean. It's
like I just that doesn't make senseto me. Why wouldn't he just be
(52:57):
like missing, presumed dead. Jackjust kind of lets it go, and
it's like, oh, it's acold case. There's nothing that can be
done, Like why go through themotions of all of this? You know?
Yeah, yeah, um yeah,I know it's yeah. I mean
it's honestly, if if if Stevehadn't identified the body, it would definitely
(53:20):
be Yes, I really strong possibilityfor me. Um, just because like
you know, particularly because of thisscene, and because like because Jack does
seem to be the best influence onhim and um and you know actually does
(53:43):
believe in him and want to helphim like get away from all this shit
and you know, take a betterpath. And um, it's it's a
storyline that that would make sense. But yeah, it's the interior, the
excessive interrogation doesn't make a lot ofsense. Um Yeah, it's yeah,
(54:13):
yeah, I don't know. There'sthere there's still the possibility that maybe that
was a plan and it just neverhappened. You know, Yeah, I
could see that too. I mean, who knows if this was Yeah,
(54:35):
if they didn't have the body bagscene, I would think that Luke is
still alive. Yeah. Yeah.Um. There's also the episode description for
the finale that just like, Ikeep thinking about that and what the hell
does it mean? Um? Whatis it? The synopsis says, as
(54:58):
tipeline, as timelines collide, friendshipsimplode, new evidence emerges, and the
shocking truth is revealed in more waysthan one. When I first read that,
the first thing that popped in mymind is, oh my God,
looks alive. I feel like we'reabout to get a like you're guilty,
you're guilty. Wait, let memove my finger this way. You're guilty,
(55:21):
You're guilty, You're guilty. Likeit's gonna be one of those things
where I think, like, whoeverSteve is going to go down for something,
Maybe Isabella does, maybe Ned goesdown. I think like everyone's going
to jail. Oh my gosh,it's the one where the jail house is
(55:45):
full of like every main character.Yeah, yikes, um, but yeah,
so it's so. The next thingwe see is is Megan and Luke
laying in bed talking about next year. He's worried about him not fitting in
(56:07):
with her new life once she makesall Once she goes to school and makes
all of her her new like computernerd friends. Um, and and he's
you know, and and he's goneinto full douche bro um they we um.
(56:30):
Now, okay, this is whereI got confused. Um, we
see on the screen November nineteen ninetynine, but they're still it's but they're
celebrating Halloween. Why are they celebratinghow would they fall? Nineteen oh November?
So what it's like November first?Yeah, I guess so, but
(56:54):
like I actually looked it up becauseI'm like, why are they celebrating Halloween
and November? And it was botheringme so much that I even looked it
up. And Halloween was on aSunday in nineteen ninety nine, so like,
if anything, you would think thatthey would be celebrating Halloween early.
Um that year. It was weird, Like why are you celebrating Halloween for
(57:17):
a week? Like a week later? Oh okay, great, I think
just text her back and say thisis scent. Okay, who all done?
I'm sorry about that. Oh yeah, don't worries. Oh I'm not
chewed out by not even my boss, but like my co worker, oh
(57:44):
a few days ago. Just Idon't know, she just does not Let
don't leave this in the podcast yeah, she just, um, you know,
I asked for a raise and sheI think she found out and it's
just like, oh, you've beenmessing up doing X, Y and Z
(58:04):
and blah blah blah. I'm like, that's really inappropriate. Oh such a
jerk, I know. And itwas just like anyway, so I'm like,
I've been on my toes because Iknow she's like bad mouthing me to
my boss and stuff. So someonetexted me and was like, this is
timely, it needs to be handled. So it's like okay, okay,
like I'll do it right now.Oh my god. Yeah, no worries,
(58:30):
No worries at all. Yikes.Oh, by the way, I
forgot to tell you. Um soI totally forgot that. I like,
I I winged my eyeliner today andyou know, I stopped doing that because,
(58:55):
like I said, I can't,but I totally forgot about like those
um you know I had that youknow how I had. I told you
I had that stamp, but Ijust like, I'm just bad at using
the pen part um stencils. Ohyeah, the like the pen the stamp
(59:19):
combined with stencils. I did myeyeliner in liked in like ten seconds.
Oh my god, that's amazing.Yeah yeah, perfect combo, um quick
as I've ever done. Eyeliner.Um, all right, we can again.
I just like I was thinking aboutthat while you were like doing your
work stuff, and I'm like,oh yeah, um oh yeah, um
(59:49):
okay, let me just marked downthe time really correct? Um okay um.
So yeah, So I don't knowwhat the whole like, I don't
know why, I don't know. It's weird. It was just a weird
choice for them to be celebrating Halloweenin November. Yeah, this, um,
(01:00:13):
timeline wise, very confusing episode forme. The dialogue here, okay,
this is where I'm like, thedialogue between Isabella and Luke is pretty
straightforward, you know what I mean. She literally says Luke says, can't
(01:00:35):
I be Megan's charming accomplice? AndIsabella replies saying that role is already taken
and there isn't enough room in herlife for both of us. Yeah.
Yeah, that's interesting. It's butsee that's so over though that I have
(01:01:00):
a hard time believe she actually saidthat, you know, Like, yeah,
I I could see her like whatshe said, what she first said
to him when Isabella went upstairs orwherever she went. Um, what she
first said to him sounded like itcould almost be supportive, like hmm,
(01:01:23):
you have to like live your owndream or whatever. Um. And and
then like and then it got reallysinister, you know, mum. And
I feel like it was so overthe top that I feel like that was
just supposed to be kind of howhe interpreted how he interpreted it. You
(01:01:47):
know that's interesting. Yeah, Um, like that's not actually what she said,
but like she's like she may havesaid something a little lightly possessive,
but that's how he how it,how it sounded to him, you know
what I mean, Um, thatwas just that was kind of the way
(01:02:08):
that I took it, Um,because she was Isabella was really over the
top in this episode. Yeah, and I and and so I just kind
of like I was confused by iton the first watch and on the second
watch, and I'm like, Okay, it's I think that's just because this
is supposed to be just how likehow he interprets her, how he sees
(01:02:35):
her, versus like, um,you know, it's kind of like when
somebody is it's super nice, andsome people can like take that as phoniness.
You know, or like, um, that's just that's kind of just
like my how I interpreted Isabella inthis episode. Um, and I don't
(01:03:00):
think there's any question that she doesn'thave a very healthy relationship with with Megan.
I think she is a little possessive. But yeah, UM not.
I don't think it's as over thetop as what was portrayed in this episode.
I think it's just his his hisperception of her, um as somebody
(01:03:21):
who feels threatened, Like, um, you know, I mean he he
showed like in the scene before,he showed that he felt threatened by the
faction that she's going to school andshe's gonna be making new friends and he
doesn't know where she's going to fetinto your life, you know. Um,
he like when he went out withIsabella when she forgot about him,
(01:03:46):
like he was very threatened by thefact that some dude like was following her
around and and like, you know, he's he's very insecure. Um,
it's so yeah, I think there'sI think that's there's a lot of that
going on in Yeah, we justhaven't seen the show like really warp our
(01:04:13):
perception. They haven't like showed ussomething And then said, Oh, that
didn't happen, you know. Sothat's why I'm like, it'd be kind
of it'd be kind of messy ifthey showed us something Isabella. We're supposed
to take that Isabella did, andthen they're like, well, she didn't
(01:04:36):
do that, and it's like, well, but you've never given us any
indication that we can't trust the narrativeof this show. That's my only issue
with that. Look, even ifIsabella has directly literally said these words to
Luke, I'm still in Isabella apologist. It does not matter to put in
(01:05:00):
his blaze. Were women's rights andwomen's wrongs? Yes, and shooting off
years? Um? But uh yeah, so apparently they're still using those those
fake IDAs. They're still getting usedout of them. Yeah, good for
(01:05:23):
something. Yeah, Like it lookslike they're drinking like malt beers. I'm
like, what that is not whatyou would be drinking or like wine coolers
or oh are they wine coolers?Yeah? I think so. I don't
know. Um, but yeah,it's yeah, I don't know. Um,
(01:05:43):
and okay, I know, I'msorry. You do not where Megan's
gonna find out real fast. Youdo not where you do not drink while
you're wearing Latex. I haven't eventhought of that. I've I've never worn
like anything like latexi like that.It looks very hard to get in and
out of it. Seems like you'dhave to like oil your like get in
(01:06:08):
it and get out. So Ican't do it. Yeah with the leather
pants, like, I don't.I want to avoid a situation like that
in friends. Oh my god, that's that was that was hilarious. I've
worn I've worn leather pants before andthat did not happen. But latex,
Yeah not. I've never personally wornlatex, but I've heard I've heard horror
(01:06:31):
stories. Yeah, once the latexcomes off, it's not coming it's not
going back on. So, um, you drink the bare minimum of water
to stay hydrated. Um, you'renot gonna be drinking alcohol or you're either
peeing in your latex suit or it'scoming off for the night. Yeah.
Literally, But have you heard thatthere are skim suits that have of like
(01:07:00):
a pea hole so you can peelike through the Leah's Yeah, I'm not
trusting that. Okay, No,no, no, that's that's gross.
They need they need um and thisis what this latex zuit needs it needs
like a good old fashioned toddler likebaby class, or like a zipper you
(01:07:23):
can unzip to go to the bathroom, or like one of those you know,
like in cartoons, like little toddlershave like the flap on their pajamas.
Yeahs, yes, yeah, exactly, like, I don't even It
always cracks me up when I readreviews of like I'll see like I'll come
(01:07:46):
across a review of like some BodyShaper or something that has like one of
those openings on the bottom, andsome woman is raving about like, oh
my god, it's so convenient youdon't have to take it off you have
a bathroom. And I'm like,I've worn one of those before, and
you absolutely have to take it offto go to the bathroom. I don't
care. Those things are useless, okay, oh Rose, like I do
(01:08:11):
not. No, no, no, I'm not. I'm not I'm not
like, I'm no. No.I've tried to use it as intended and
it was a disaster. I endedup going home with it in a plastic
bag funny, oh my god,or throwing it in the trash. Yeah.
(01:08:41):
No, those things are useless.I don't even know. Why they
put them in or they should justlike put them or they should like put
in a note. Use if ambitiousliterally or use if you have a a
urinal cup, like you know, one of those. Uh, I need
(01:09:05):
to get one of those, oneof those, like one of those funnel,
one of those urinal funnel things.Oh yeah, you basically need a
cat Honestly, it's like you justneed a catheter to wear. Yeah,
that's what Megan needed a catheter. He needed a catera. Oh my gosh.
(01:09:29):
Um Okay, So next we seethe guy the douche bro is hanging
out at the Chamber show. Freakinglove this guy that plays Eric so funny.
Every time I see him, it'sjust hilarious, Like he does the
douche bro thing so well, Likejust the look on his face as um
(01:09:50):
and I God, I feel sobad. I always forget this actor's name.
Um, but every time, likepeople look on his face as Brent
is is douche bro speaking about fillinggirls while having sex. Yeah, the
look on his face is just hilarious. I mean he's just the guy looks
(01:10:16):
in awe. Yeah, I meanthe guy looks like he has about three
working brain cells and like they can'tall work it one time, sim and
Eric shares one brain cell. Yeah, but I mean he's just yeah,
(01:10:39):
Brent is his hero, and he'sjust basically sitting there with his mouth hanging
open, drooling in awe so disgusting. Yeah gross, because I mean Brent
literally says like, they do bettersometimes they do better when they're not they
don't know they're being filmed, andlike, yeah, stealth mode, Yeah
(01:11:03):
so awful. That's like so horrifying. Yeah, it's gross. Um and
yeah, and well first he's like, yeah, these college girls love being
filmed. No yeah, um andand uh and Louke comes in and and
(01:11:29):
he's like, if you know whatyou're doing, you don't need a gimmick
and um and that Brett's like allright, whatever whatever, dong one and
um. They like they're just youknow, they're they're just kind of giving
(01:11:55):
him shit and teasing him about howyou know he wouldn't he wouldn't have the
balls too, you wouldn't be ableto do it. And he's like,
you need to step it up.Megan got hot. Of course she showered,
she got hot. Yeah, andnow he needs to step it up.
Or Megan's gonna get bored. Yeah, it's just it's this was another
(01:12:20):
like another scene where you really justkind of saw, you know, how
much his environment just really contributed toso much of what happened, you know.
Yeah. And again it's not it'snot for you know, it's not
(01:12:41):
letting him off the hook. It'sjust like things could have been so different
if like if he had grown upwith somebody like Jack's his dad or something,
yeah, where he wasn't surrounded bypeople like that, you know,
yeah, even if he was surroundedby like a better friend group, Like
yeah, I feel like this isthe first time we've really seen this circle
(01:13:04):
of friends that we've been seeing thisentire season, like act this sleazy and
disgusting. Yeah, Like if hehad, like if he really just completely
unaffiliated with his brother tim Eric, even Jeff, Jeff goes along with everything.
Jeff is just as bad in mybook, like, you know,
(01:13:27):
not good. If he felt secureenough in his friendship with Megan and maybe
like had like a couple other peoplethat he hung out with, I think
that that could have even like fixeda little bit of like his influence from
his dad and Brent too. Yeah, yeah, definitely, Yeah, And
(01:14:00):
yeah. So it's it's just it'sjust a kind of a shit show.
Um. And uh yeah, it'stoo bad, like he didn't at least
have a sister or something, youknow. Yeah, literally sister could have
worked on him. I agree.God. Um and then um, and
then why don't you take us through, um through the second half of the
(01:14:21):
show. Yeah. Oh and alsoI wanted to ask, so, when
do you want to cover the NewYear's Eve scenes at the very very end?
Um? Oh yeah, yeah, because there's some New Year's Eve.
Um. Yeah, we didn't evenwe didn't actually, yeah, we didn't
cover the New Year's Eve timeline.Yeah, so I'll do I'll do um
(01:14:41):
the fall timeline, and then Iguess we'll go back and do New Year's
Yeah yeah, yeah, okay, great, okay. Um. So Meghan
and Isabella arrive back to Meghan's housegiddy. Um. They just had a
good night out at the bar thatthey saw a sheriff Jack at before,
(01:15:01):
and Lucas in her house just likewatching TV. Megan stood him up and
like completely forgot they were hanging out. Okay. In my opinion, Isabella
is really I think Isabella is veryintentionally trying to create like a little riff
(01:15:28):
between Megan and Luke. Megan says, like this guy was dedicating every song
to Isabella, and Isabella takes thatopportunity to bring up a guy at the
bar who was all over Megan.Lucas really uncomfortable. Megan is trying to
justify it and like kind of swipeit under the rug, and then Isabella
(01:15:53):
says that he was really cute andI mean even Megan is annoyed with her.
Um, and that's where my nicknamecomes from. She says, yeah,
maybe with your beer goggles on.Yeah, this is definitely a situation
where Isabella was was definitely being liketrying to create some friction for sure.
(01:16:17):
Yeah, and it's kind of interestingbecause she's doing it at the expense of
her friendship with Megan. Megan isliterally getting ticked off at her. Yeah,
so that was interesting. M LukeU is back at the police station,
probably to hang out with his dearold dad Jack, and he runs
(01:16:39):
into Jeff who's paying a parking ticket. Um, pretty funny or Jeff,
Uh, Jeff isn't going to homecoming. Luke is trying to give him advice
to ask this girl to homecoming.Amy Amy don't take Amy. Don't take
Amy, leave Amy alone, leaveher out of this. Yeah, Amy
(01:17:00):
deserves better. Amy needs to runaway. Amy's gonna be part of the
Amy's gonna be raising Lily along withKelly and Parker. Yeah, I agree,
um and um. Essentially, hesays he's still mad at Luke because
he didn't tell Jeff that he hadfeelings with me for Megan. I'm okay,
(01:17:26):
I don't think. I don't knowhow Jeff and Luke, how close
they really are, and how wellthey've communicated in the past, But I
don't think it's really reasonable for Jeffto think that Luke is going to like
ask for his permission to date Megan. Yeah, I don't. I don't
(01:17:51):
think it's I don't think it's reasonableeither. I mean, it's obviously the
whole thing. They didn't really realizethat they had feelings for each other,
if they kind of had to bepushed into acknowledging it. Yeah, um,
and yeah, it's you know,I mean like they he didn't,
(01:18:15):
he just didn't realize it. Like, um, I mean, like I
think. I mean, I've beenin a situation before where like I started
dating someone and I later found outthat like their best friend had a crush
(01:18:45):
on me or something. You know. Um, it's like they just nobody
made a move there. Like it'sit's not like there was nothing underhanded going
on, you know. I mean, I don't think. Yeah, I
mean to Luke was a jerk, but and I felt bad for Jeff Um
(01:19:08):
because he got hurt, and youknow, it sucks like that he went
through that, but it wasn't reallyanybody's fault. Totally. I really like
Um the dialogue Jeff has here,it kind of echoes Isabella's sentiment from last
episode, and as we know, that is my send sense. Yes,
(01:19:30):
he says, your brother might bean asshole, but at least he's honest
about it. You're worse because youthink you're the good guy. Yeah.
Yeah, So they not only umhad Lexi Washington, uh Um, Lexie
um Underwood Underwood. They not onlyhad um Lexi Underwood I come into it
(01:19:56):
recordingy lines. They had Nile Bulletcome in Ordinary Lions because of things at
the writers heard you say on thepodcast. So I'm I'm honored. That's
so that's so great, thank youfree time. I'm glad. Yeah,
(01:20:17):
um So, Megan Luke and Isabellaare hanging out at the cabin. They
had a little ditch day where theyskip school. Um. They're talking about
getting tickets to No Doubt and skippingschool again. Um. And Isabella brings
up that they are going to Madridnext summer, which is coming as a
(01:20:40):
shock to Luke. UM. Meganis saying that these are like maybe potential
plans, but Isabella is really insistentthat they're happening. Um. And she
says that Megan's already in the processof getting her passport. She says,
Uh, staying in one place fortoo long is bad for the soul.
(01:21:05):
Very funny. This scene kind ofbugged me. Um, I it really
urged me how Isabella was talking forYeah, UM like, yeah, I
didn't. I didn't like that,and you know, and I'm like,
(01:21:26):
and of course I am still watchingthis under the assumption that we're supposed to
be seeing this as Luke's like,as Luke's perception of Isabella. So I
mean it could have been, likethe reality could have been that Isabella was
(01:21:48):
just echoing um Megan more than speakingfor her. Um. But I just,
yeah, it bugged me. Idon't know, Yeah, for sure,
UM, Luke visits his dad atthe office to announce he got into
Branson. Um. Steve pounds thetable, which I felt like was a
(01:22:13):
very funny choice and really like fithis character. You know, Steve gets
really excited, and Luke announces thathe also got into the Coastguard Academy,
and you know, Steve is like, oh no, not this again.
Um. And he says he's notgoing to pay for him to be in
the Coastguard Academy. Um. Healso says he's sick of trying to fix
(01:22:36):
Luke, which is very hurtful. And yeah, there's a lot of really
hurtful language. Um. Through spewingat each other, Luke says that,
m Steve, you you resented meever since the night of the accident.
(01:22:57):
Um. He says that mom shouldhave never been driving, but because you
had some work thing, you couldn'tbe there. I think Steve was having
an affair Ouch. I think hewas a philandering man, and that's really
what was happening. And I'm wonderingif maybe some of that stuff is going
(01:23:19):
to come to light. Also,I wonder if it was with Debbie Ouch.
Oh man, that would h boy, that would be something. Yeah,
(01:23:39):
I Okay, first of all,I actually I actually did not like
that Steve slammed the table because Ifelt like I felt like Steve's reactions should
have been more like I knew youcould do it, buddy, and that
(01:24:00):
that was about it, you know, like I just felt like, I
don't know, I felt like hewas I don't know, I felt like
he should not have been as proudof him as he was. Yeah,
I see it more like Steve ishappy he's finally getting exactly what he wanted,
you know. Yeah, I guessso that makes sense. Okay,
(01:24:24):
that's my thought with that. Yeah, that makes sense. M Yeah,
because I'm just thinking, like Iwas thinking that the alternative would have been
like him thinking of him as atotal loser, and so this is basically
like just what he's accepting. SoI don't so. I so I don't
(01:24:45):
see like him thinking of it asbeing overly spectacular. But no, that
that makes sense though, he's justreally excited about it, because yeah,
I don't know that he even thinksit's like spectacular. I feel like it's
just like this is what the standardis and like finally you're following it.
Yeah, yeah, now that makessense. Okay. So Luke visits Megan
(01:25:11):
at her house. He just kindof shows up, he says. Him
and his dad are talking even lessand he asks Megan if she wants to
run away sad yeah. And thenwe are at the Christmas party. We
get that scene again of that wesaw in the pilot where Luke is talking
(01:25:35):
to someone about going to Branson College, which is uh, you know what.
His dad pretty much says he'll bedoing um studying business there, and
Luke replies saying it's the Chambers Way, which when I heard that, uh,
that line hit me funny the firsttime. It was just like a
(01:25:59):
very strange kind of like phrase turnof phrase, and I was like,
hmm, that's like a weird reply. And now I'm like, oh,
I under he ends up gain introuble for that, you know, So
I'm like, okay, well thatmakes more sense. Um. Yeah.
Steve like pushes him, he pullsthem aside. He does not like that
(01:26:21):
little remark about the Chamber's Way.He shoves him into a food rack and
tells him, you know, tostop and cut it out. And reputation
is everything, Luke says, whenyou care about reputation more than you care
about the family, you know,So it's it's another really bad fight.
(01:26:45):
So Luke grabs the sex tape andhands it to someone who's working the Christmas
party, telling them that it's theholiday movie that needs to play. That
Luke cares not about cares about reputation, nor cares not about reputation, nor
about about family or friends. Right, Luke actually doesn't care about anything except
(01:27:13):
for getting back at his dad.Yes, because he is. He's screwing
over his reputation and Megan's reputation andyeah, so he just cares about being
spiteful. Like I just like Icould not believe I this surprised me.
(01:27:33):
I think even more than finding outthat he made the tape. Oh yeah,
I really was convinced that Isabella wasthe one who played the tape so
that she could fall on the swordof being like, oh, I'm such
a good friend. This is whyI'm doing it for you. Yeah.
(01:27:54):
I still think that Isabella knows aboutsome of this. I think we're going
to find out that she like maybewitnessed it and just kind of let it
unfold. I still I still thinkshe there's a little bit more going on
with her. Okay, um,yeah, I just can't. I just
(01:28:18):
can't get over. I just can'tbelieve he would do that to Megan.
I mean, it just blows mymind. It's just terrible, like he
really wasn't thinking about her at all. Yeah, I mean it just completely
(01:28:38):
it just just completely destroyed any shredof hope for his character. Yeah.
Um oh Luke. The worst partthough, I mean for me, is
like then he decides to he createsthe issue and then he decides to take
(01:29:00):
advantage of it and like ham itup. You know. So the guys
are hanging out at the cabin talkingabout Luke's sex tape. They're like proud
of him. They're you know, like talking him up. They applaud him
for having sex with Isabella. They'rebeing really gross. It's very disgusting.
(01:29:21):
Luke is not telling them to stop. I like really don't know. I
get it because it's like I've definitelybeen when I was younger, been friends
with people who weren't good for meor like saving things or it's like why
are you still hanging out with thesepeople? But like why is he hanging
(01:29:41):
out with these guys? Like really, at this point, they seem more
like Griend's friends, but they're alllike a year younger than his. So
yeah, I just I really don'tget it. I don't get it either.
Megan and Luca at the cabin makingout, but Megan doesn't want to
do anything because she's worried about cameras, rightfully, so yeah, UM,
(01:30:06):
who can blame her? Um.The next scene Lucas playing video games alone
UM at at his house. Uh. We find out that this is um
his end of the episode. Theday before the plunge, when Megan UM
(01:30:28):
bails to go do stuff with Ned, Steve is asking him what happened UM,
and Steve says that with the scholarshipand everything that comes along with it,
could be time for Luke to cutbait and see what else is out
there, which he kind of saidto Debbie Um in the pilot too.
(01:30:50):
They're young, etc. Yeah,so what do you what do you think
that was about? UM? Youknow, I kind of get where Steve
is going. I see I thinkfor it's like when they're like in high
school, they're like seventeen years old. I don't think like the first person
(01:31:15):
you're in a relationship is going tobe your soulmate. Per se and I
feel like most times the high schoolrelationships where you know, you go to
college and try to keep up longdistance, it's very hard. It usually
doesn't work, and you know youguys usually end up breaking up. So
I feel like Steve is being realistic. But also I think that Steve does
(01:31:39):
care a lot about reputation. Hewould probably, like if Luke found some
girl that was equally wealthy and wellconnected and you know, would support him
in more of like an ideal way. Yeah, that's kind of what I
was thinking too. Like either umlike like she like he would, he
(01:32:05):
would prefer that he finds somebody who'seither a bit more well connected or um
a bit less ambitious. Yeah.Yeah, either she should be like mommy,
or she should um be like alsoin business trying to get him wheeling
(01:32:29):
and dealing or something. Yeah exactly. Um, well, great, now
I think we're gonna move move onto our New Year's timeline. Yeah,
why don't you uh yeah, it'sthere's not a whole lot going on.
Um, why don't you just takewhy don't you take us through? Uh
the New Years? The Year's timelineis pretty short? Yeah, it's pretty
(01:32:50):
short, all right, So,um, we find out that Isabella has
shot Luke's ear um. It wasreally just a graze, just like in
the autopsy report. He's fine,he's just missing a chunk of his ear
now, but he's in a lotof pain. Isabella is shooting that gun.
(01:33:14):
I mean, she is not helpingherself when Megan over. Megan is
helping Luke. Luke is finally gettingkind of this like one on one time
with Megan to kind of try toassuage her that he's wanted. He's begging
Megan to let her go. Isabellasays they need to leave immediately because someone
(01:33:34):
ned could have heard the gun fire. She's right, so she thinks they
should leave Luke tied up. Meanwhile, Isabella is taking the tape, she
takes her pills. I think theyleft the liquor there. It kind of
seems like the liquor lives at theYeah, And Megan takes this time to
(01:34:00):
tell Luke that she is pregnant.Bad timing, man, no, really
horrible timing. I was so shockedthat she did that, and I was
like, oh, well, Iguess she's got to tell Luke. I
mean, they wouldn't give us apregnancy and then have her not confront him
with that, so they were gonnado it, but like she picked like
(01:34:23):
the worst time I really think possible. Yeah, yeah for sure. Um,
it's so funny. Yeah, likeI that yeah yeah, I yeah.
That was a that was just abig old mess. Um. And
(01:34:45):
and he could he could not havehad a more terrible response. Um.
I mean he basically just said, yeah, I'm sure my dad could could
figure out how to take care ofit, like yeah, yeah, basically
completely removing her from the situation.Yeah. And it's like also bringing your
(01:35:08):
dad and like even if they wereon the same page of like, hey,
we're not going to have this babyright cool like that he even brought
Steve, the Steve Chambers of itall into it, like yeah, thinks
hate Yeah, I know, yeah, I hate it. Megan is so
mad. She's like, you're notthe guy I thought you were. You're
(01:35:28):
a liar, and that just kindof seals his fate. She's not gonna
untie him, and she says shenever wants to see him again. Yeah.
Yeah, it's it was just weirdfor me though, because like it
was she had the appropriate response, but at the same time, I don't
(01:35:51):
think she did because Yeah, Ifeel like his response kind of was appropriate
in the sense that it was kindof like, yeah, okay, maybe
my dad can help us. Canwe deal with this later? Yeah,
Like I wonder if she like wantedto keep the baby and she's surprised that
(01:36:15):
he didn't. Maybe I just thinkit was like I don't think either one
of them were thinking clearly in thatmoment. Yeah, And I don't,
like, I mean, I justI just don't. I mean, he
should never like I mean, it'sup to her what she wants to do,
(01:36:39):
Like like he should never approach itlike like it's, yeah, let's
let's help, let's find somebody tohelp you get rid of it. You
know, it gets this is youknow, it's it's maybe she wants to
have a baby, maybe she doesn't. It's not his decision. Yeah,
(01:37:04):
but this is not the time tobe talking about it exactly. So talk
about it later. Yeah, notthe moment right now is not appropriate either,
one of you just so wild.Um. So time passes Luke,
(01:37:28):
I guess has just passes out.He wakes up again, um tied up,
and he gets himself out of thenot um that Megan tied him up
in um let's I really liked thecover of in the end that was playing.
Oh yeah it was good. Yeah. I'm not sure who who covered
(01:37:54):
this, but um, but yeahI liked it. Um. He's Luke
is really out of it. He'sbleeding. There's there are a couple drops
the blood on the floor. Butsurely that can't be what Megan was cleaning
up. It looked like so muchblood. In the pilot, we get
a little blood on the floor. He's stumbling around. He grabs something.
(01:38:15):
At first I thought it was thewalkie talkie, but I think it was
the beeper. Did you catch whatit was? Uh? Wait, you
mean when he's sitting on the pierbefore then he before in the cabin he
went out. Yeah it was aflashlight. Oh a flash line up?
Yeah? Okay. Um, he'sstumbling through the woods. He's hearing um
(01:38:40):
echoes of all these things people havesaid to him running through his head.
Um. He makes his way outto the dock and he's leaning. He
has his back to the ladder andis basically like resting on it, which
is horror bad news. Like hereally need, if anything, he needs
(01:39:00):
to lay flat on his back onthe ground, you know. But I
mean, when I saw him outthere sitting there, I was like,
oh my god, he's just aboutto pass out and completely go underwater,
like he really should not be there. He definitely ask a concussion, I
mean, yeah, for sure.Yeah. He sends a message on his
(01:39:26):
beeper and we get a shot ofMegan worried in bed. She can't sleep,
Isabella can't sleep, and then thefinal shot we see is someone walking
up to Luke and he says,I didn't think you'd come. And you
know what's funny. When I askedyou the last time I talked to you,
(01:39:49):
I asked you if you thought thatmight be Ned. I didn't see
him pull out the beeper, soI didn't. Like That's why I asked
that. So obviously I don't.I don't think it was Ned now because
I don't think. I don't thinkit was Ned either, because how would
he have Ned's contact information, Like, I don't think I think Luke is
(01:40:09):
reaching out to someone for help.So to me, I feel like the
people he would normally reach out towould be his brother and Megan and Isabella.
The very first time I watched this, I thought maybe he did send
the message to Megan and she didn'tanswer. But then when I saw the
(01:40:30):
end date, I was like, well, wait, you know, I
do kind of wonder because all right, it's it's funny to me that we
haven't seen the two thousand timeline inthis episode. That feels very like purposeful.
I'm wondering. Isabella said that shecan prove that Megan is the reason
(01:40:58):
Luke die. So if from whatwe've seen so far, Isabella's the one
who shoots the gun, Isabella's theone that gives him the pills, that
kind of makes me wonder if itisn't Megan who came back. That's like
(01:41:20):
my new thought. I still think. I think realistically, it's either gonna
be Megan or it's gonna be Brent. Do you think it could be Jack?
Oh, that would be really interesting. I guess it really could be
(01:41:41):
Jack. He is depending on hima lot this episode. Maybe it is
Oh, what if Jack had somethingto do with his death? Or what
about Debbie. Oh, Debbie's justbeen going incogny, She's been laying low
(01:42:01):
this whole time. Could be yeah, I don't know, she just popped
in my head, and like,I don't know that Debbie would be very
responsive with the beeper though honestly, yeah, I probably don't think she wouldn't
wake up. I think she justleaped through it. Um. I think
(01:42:26):
it could be Jack, though Jackis now going on my suspect board.
Okay, um, now you knowwhat it's Um No, I think it's
(01:42:56):
now. I think it's got tobe either Brent, Megan, or Isabella.
It has to be because all becauseit it has to be somebody who
knows where he's at. Yeah,um, and Brent could have have found
(01:43:19):
out from girl. Brent might know, you know, he was at the
party, I think right up,Yeah, yeah, so he could have
he It would make sense like ifso, let's say Luke tex sos need
help, I think Brent would knowthat if he's not at home, he's
not still at the party, he'sat the cabin. And I think,
(01:43:42):
um, I also think it couldbe Isabella that shows up, because whoever
it is, he's surprised they showedup for him, which is why I
still think it could be Jack, but it kind of puts lower on the
list. I think it's more likeLuke is so surprised that this person would
(01:44:02):
still show up for him. Sothat's why it's like in order of like
least likely to most likely. Ifeel like that would be like Jack,
Brent, and then maybe I wouldput Megan, and then the least likely
person would be Isabella. Yeah, because he's just put you know, Isabella
(01:44:27):
and Megan completely at each other's throats, and I feel like, from Isabella's
perspective, she's gotten him, she'sgotten so rattled by him, and that
would be the most unlike unlikely personin Luke's eyes to show up for him.
Yeah, um, yeah, yeah, you're right, I think,
(01:44:53):
Um, yeah, I'm going I'mI'm going with I'm going with probably one
of the girls, maybe Brent, tiny possibility of Jack, but probably not.
I think, okay, this ismy guest for the finale. I
think that we're gonna find out Nedis going to do some digging, as
(01:45:16):
he said on Steve. I thinkwe're gonna find out some stuff about Steve
and the finale. We're gonna findout maybe a little that he's been having
an affair. I could totally seeNed finding that out. And I think
he's also going to ruin Steve's reputationin town, and so I think there's
(01:45:40):
going to be more information revealed aboutSteve and that would play into the synopsis
off like the truth is revealed inmore ways than one. I think there's
something with that, and then youknow, there are just some things still
not like completely wrapped up, likeI think is feeling drugs, Like I
(01:46:00):
don't really know how that's gonna bewrapped up in a tidy bow in the
finale. I also keep thinking aboutthe episode where Isabella talked about sleepwalking as
some story and that has had nopayoff. Yeah, I don't know if
the point of that scene potentially wasto just be like, oh, look
(01:46:24):
at how she's willing to lie.But I feel like there's got to be
more payoff to that, and like, I just I don't know. I
don't Maybe maybe it is gonna beIsabella that shows up and she's gonna claim
that she slept walk to the cabinor something. I'm not I'm just not
(01:46:47):
sure. Um, But yeah,I do you think Brent is still involved
in Luke's death? I do.I do. I still think that Brent,
and it's going to come down tobrenton nud somehow. I think so
too, And I really hope wefind out what's going on with Trevor and
(01:47:08):
I hope we hear more about Lisa'sdeath. I was I was listening to
our third episode or third episode, third episode of the season two, and
Isabella tells Megan one time her andLisa got stuck in a storm, and
at the time that hit me isbeing so strange. But now when I'm
(01:47:30):
thinking about Lisa drowning, I isit possible that people haven't been mentioning it.
But there was also a storm, you know that there were more There
was more things at play leading toLisa's death that we haven't heard. Possibly,
possibly it would be you know,it would be nice if we got
(01:47:51):
some more info and Lisa. Yeah, I can't imagine we're not going to.
I don't know. I kind ofwant to watch season one back and
see if there were any unanswered questionsin season one. I can't I know,
I can't wait to do season onebecause then I'm going to dig up
everything that I want answers to.Yeah, for sure, Um well,
(01:48:15):
yeah, only one episode to goand I we're gonna wrap this up quickly
because I got a jet out ofhere. But make sure you guys join
us, uh and and stick around. Um, you know, we do
live chats every Sunday following new episodesof Curul Summer or Monday, I'm sorry,
(01:48:36):
Monday following new episodes of Cruel SummerCamp. Um. Obviously we by
the time by the time you seethis episode, we're only going to have
one live chat left but um forseason two, but we're gonna be doing
live chats for season one too,so um, lots more to come for
(01:48:59):
Cruel Camp. So even if you'veseen season one already, we have to
so um, you know, revisitit with us. It's gonna be lots
of fun. Um and uh,we will probably host ourt. We'll probably
be posting our season one recaps lateron in the week and not on Tuesdays
like we usually do with this one, but um, we'll probably figure that
(01:49:23):
one out later. But yeah,so uh, come hang with us and
we will see you guys soon.Bye.
