Hey, welcome to Cruise okpe about Mango, and we're back
with part two of Inevitable Kenny Omega Versu Cazuska Okada,
their epic four match series and one episode two, so
only two more ago, but tonight it's a sixty minute
fucking classic.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
I cannot wait for this match. I have been waiting
all week to do this. It has been a struggle
not to just like, come on and do it, because honestly,
I didn't want to wait.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
No, no, you definitely didn't. I don't blame you there.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
I'd been looking forward to watching this all week as well,
especially knowing exactly what we're getting into. So I'm gonna
queue it up here in a minute, right now, I
see we have a few people in the lobby, so
if you're ready to watch it either on New Japan
or that Tokyo website some people know about, we're gonna
que it up.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
There's a little bit of an intro here, so I'll
try to give you some backstory.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Well we queue up, so without further ad zoo, we're
gonna give it a queue.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
So here we go.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
So obviously, as we know last time, Kenny Omega and
Okada fought to a forty five plus minute battle where
Okada came out on top.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
And this has really been Omega's white whale to you
that cliche.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
This has been what he wants and Okada recognizes that,
and he's called out Omega. Because in New Japan, the
champions typically call out the challengers. The challenger does don't
really call their shots. It's more of an honor thing
where they will call out so and they feel as
worthy to defend that belt against. So Okada really felt

(02:23):
like he didn't have any challengers. He was kind of
slipping into some arrogance here and called out Kenny Omega
to face met Dominion, and that's what sets us up
now Dominion twenty seventeen. Also what's interesting is this is
really the rise of the Cleaner. This is really the
rise of the Bullet Club because you have the Bullet
Club now has lost Finn Balor in the first years
of it. Aj Styles was just kicked out the year before.

(02:45):
There's been some discension going on. You have the elite
that's formed, they've been kind of taking over while the
Bullet Club feel like they're left behind. So there's been
a lot of tension in this match, because Kenny's focus
right now is that ISWGP title. That's all he wants.
He wants to be the top guy. He wants to
be the top guyjin.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
Our co host, absolutely.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
Hey Smoky, how you doing, Hello, Rachel? And I love
these series just because of the story behind it.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
I mean, you have Kenny who when he first was
in New Japan, he was this happy, go lucky guy
wearing tights, blonde hair, and then when he officially joined
Bullet Club and kind of came in, he was brought
in silver hair, glasses, leather.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
Jacket, more of a prickish heel.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
He became the cleaner to clean up New Japan, to
clean up the Super Junior's division. That wasn't until he
won the g one and he faced Okada at Russell
Kingdom eleven, and now it's he got a taste and
he wants it. He knows he can beat Okada, and
he told Okada, I'm not the same as I was
back six months ago we faced the first time.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
His hair is so long, well, I guess some of it.
His haircuts always been interesting. It's not a mullet. It's
not not a mullet.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
It's it's the cleaner, so what we're gonna call it.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
I also love good.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
That championship is just so pretty. I want to like
know how heavy it is?

Speaker 3 (04:22):
Probably pretty heavy.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
It reminds me of the ones that FTR had No
not at all, just because you feel like the weight
looking it looks heavy like the one vi Kingo.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
Has a little more stay Yeah, that one Vikingos was
pretty heavy. So this is obviously kind of throwing out
the challenge and just the fact that it happened again
at Dominion No you figure five and a half six
months later we're getting this match, you know, the twenty
seventeen the second time they're meeting.

Speaker 3 (04:51):
Kenny's trying to beat Okattie.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
He's trying to get that title, and he's he's pretty
much been sacrificing his leadership and that's you know, Tongaloa
is getting mad. Everyone in the book club's been getting
getting mad and Kenny and Kenny also just got some
new members of the book club, you know, Cody Rhodes
decided to join the book Club earlier in the year,
so there's already kind of some power struggles going on.
It leads up to that story. So we get to

part three we kind of talked more about the dissension,
but stay tuned for tonight because a lot of seeds
are planted for the twenty eighteen book Club Silver War,
which pretty much tore the elade apart and then kind
of brought them together.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
I want to go back to the lineage of this
after because that was something I didn't notice until right now.
What's that the lineage of this title.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
It's one of the most historic titles.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
So yeah, can I imagine you have a Noki, you
have a ton of hashi Okada, you have all these
legends Liger, I mean, it's new Japan has obviously been
around a very long time, and the lineage that title
has been a very long time. And unfortunately when they
merge the inter Continental title with that title and then

(05:58):
turned it into the Butterfly.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
But again hero there.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
So obviously he's flanked by the Bucks here because you know,
the elite that's been his focus, and that was kind
of the first part of the downfall of the Bullet Club.
The division is you have the elite focusing on themselves.
But Matt and Nick Jackson are tearing up in the
tag team division. They're winning trios or six Man titles together.
Kenny wants the top prize. He wants to beat Okada.

(06:24):
Okata and tana Hashi have had this epic rivalry in
New Japan, and Ocatta has kind of proven himself as
the next top Dog, and Kenny says, why would it
be the next top Dog. So just the story going
into this alone is phenomenal. And again this is only
the second time they face it. It's only going to
increase from here. Obviously it's not as much spectacle as

Russell Kingdom with the gear the entrance, but he still
has that heel swagger.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
I enjoyed the presentation of the area where they are.
I'm not sure if there's the stabium.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Ariga what it is so so alcohol.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
Well, they have the screens above the ring that were
showcasing different like metal mechanisms.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
I don't it's basically his look.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
It's his the cleaner and all this bone Soldier, all
the different Titan trons. That's one big thing. Kenny and
the Bucks and Cody. They brought aesthetics to the book club.
They changed that bold soldier logo. I really enjoyed how
they tweaked it. You had the you know, iconic Nightmare

Factory only with the gold hair. You had the Bucks
super Kick Party. I mean Adam Cole would get one.
You had all kinds of awesome designs, and they put
it in their Titan trons too. So now remember this
is about a year before all in this is this
is still pretty peak Kenny Omega. It's peak Okada. No
Kata is still the man. But I wanted to see

if you noticed something about Okata in this match, because
one thing I'll always remember, Oh, this.

Speaker 3 (07:54):
Match is kind of the Dynamics shifting. I want to
see if you notice.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
But this time is that pretty epic for him? Always
has an awesome entrance. You see why aw brought those
lights in kind of homage. So now we're finally getting
to the match. Here Ocot is coming out beautiful robe.

Is he talking about a hundred thusands of sports cars.
That's why the Bucks bottom of Car and Dynamite Bullet
Club absolutely has some of the best shirts. I think
I think I had a whole closet we talke about
last Upsdy'm always like I think Emily had a whole
wardrobe after she met me, because she had all my
Bullet Club shirts.

Yeah, and then we'd go to Hot Topic and I'd
find them on sale and I would just buy them
for myself as well. Before I had my own, I
was definitely stealing his not even knowing what they were.
Like twenty seventeen eighteen, I was like taking.

All of those all time favor will always be you.
Having Steven and Mel's Bullet Club shirt going, it kind
of reminds me of Green Arrow, and I'm like.

Because it is Green Arrow.

See obviously they talk about because you know, tana Hashi
and Okada had one of the most epic rivalries, think
of like.

Speaker 3 (09:18):
A Randyorton John Cena kind of rivalry in New Japan.
It constant back and forth.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
That's why I'm hoping with Tana Hashee's retirement that maybe
Okada has one more match with him, because I feel
like it's it's got to be a thing. I love
the Rainmaker robes. I love that he brings them back
for pay per views and interests because there's something special
about those Him and Osprey just their gear is always.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
On point, it really is, and it's the work that
has to go into these is incredible.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
You know, the crowd's already ready for this because everything
surrounding this was Can this live up to the hype?
Can it live up to the hype of the first one?
And it's a tough bar to set. Yes, Emily misses
the tassels with the bucks too.

because there's so much story and again just his arrogance,
like he's focusing. He wants to take that title and
be the top guy.

you said, the lineage of the history behind that belt.

Listen how protected the One Wing Angel is, even back
in twenty seventeen, I believe too, Jeff. I think Will
got the inspiration from Okada because you had Flair who
had his iconic robes, and Okada made his own version
of the Flair robe, and I think it's just that
wrestling turtion. But yeah, Will definitely got the pop and

love the continuous shots that they have on the camera,
keeping it on the ring.

Ligo was very genuine, and I just loved how he
like bear hugged cam made me smile.

So one of the first things you noticed about Kenny
kind of going for the legs, kind of working that
knee of Okada Okada. One of the best things he
has is that drop kick, So he's going to work
those legs. He wants to keep him grounded. His brain
maker is gonna come from the power in his legs,
his dropkick, his most of his offense is going to
come from his legs and his base. So that's what
Kenny's kind of trying to do right now, is work

that base, work those legs. Yeah, no, it's I was
cheating to Jack because it was just like, ah, he's
such a legend of the business.

Speaker 2 (13:58):
So I noticed the last time that the ring barricades,
So it's like the ring a barricade space for other
people and then another barricade for the fans. I kind
of like it. I know it's not like the close
up that everybody loves, but I think that it's really beneficial.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
I don't know it. I don't notice that stuff. That's
I do, but I don't focus on the ring. But
it's I don't like how close the barricade is because
I like to think of as Eddie King's getting hurt
people hitting that barricade. But it's just it goes by
where they're set up. Dominion's usually in a smaller venue. Obviously,
it's not Tokyo Doo, so it depends when they go.
They go to California, they have closer far, but it's

different aesthetics. Shit, I don't think we're ever gonna see
a similar Sepe even some of their smaller shows and
New Japan Power will run the barricade, but I think
they have production crew between the fans and the barricade
because there's a lot of camera camera people with numbers
on their back. Well, technical wrestling for people who supposedly

can't technically. Don Kallas pumping him up. It's a true
hero that he was responsible for the Tokyo Dome attendants.

I think as much as I can't stand him, Don
Kallus is so knowledgeable.

I know when he is on commentary it is educational
and I enjoy that aspect of commentary. You've got like Taz,
who kind of talks abut himself too much. Don Challas
talks about his family too much.

You know, they're all characters, right well exactly Taz is going.
He's supposed to be the arrogant New Yorker.

So I think it's really insightful sometimes to actually listen
to Don Kallus when he's talking as much as I
hate listening to a hot dog.

A lot of counter wrestle, they seem again they know
each other even better the first time. A lot of counters,
a lot of anything you can do, I can do
better moments here I'm kind of going up over us
to encounter. See it's that's the beautiful storytelling, is how
they move around in the ring, already going for the
one wing angel kind of countering that say they know

each other, kicks the rainmaker away.

Getting cocky already with those.

He went for the drop kick, he stopped, He news
to stop, but his name. Look, remember he's been working

The subtle storytelling of he's gonna take out one of
caught his strengths, his knees, his legs. Hey, that's probably
Cameron's name. The finishing move hm or finishing move.

You know, it's funny because the big criticisms Kenny and
Okada always got was they're too flashy in their ring.
They don't let things kind of mariny. But I want
to ask you, because this is your first time seeing
these matches, I think as at all. I think they
let them loose marining. Did they do the chain wrestling.
They have the technical, they have the reversals, they're kind

of working each other's limbs.

What do you think?

So looking at it from the perspective of these are
two of the best at what they do. They're not
going to have to sell something forever because it shouldn't
be as impactful if it was someone else.

I just meant like the working the ring, working the
psychology that people say they don't have.

No if they were to work someone else, it would
be different. But working someone else at the top of
their game, I think it makes a difference on who
your opponent is. And they're obviously gonna go full force,
full throttle the entire time they're together.

of the Bullet Club, got the whole entire organization to.

Yes, the apron is definitely the hardest part of the ring,
but I mean it's funny if it's if it's all
boards and slats, it's the same thickness throughout. So is
it because there's less gift because there's no suspension. That's
the only thing I can think of. Because it's all hard,

to the limits last time, and he's already taking to
the ruins again and everything he's throwing out a kado.

Also, it's weird seeing bad Luck Fallet because obviously he's
an og member of the Bullet Club.

He officially turned on the Bullet Club recently.

So there's no more original members left in the book club,
which I mean twelve thirteen years later, it's a pretty
impressive run. But yeah, bad Luck Fallet, who was originally
like the bouncer of the Bullet Clubs no longer in
the Bullet club.

I was thinking the same thing. It definitely looks like

many different versaal styles. It was a complete buffet. Yes,

who can get the upper end, whereas I feel the
last match again was like a mixture of different styles.
So this was definitely more hard hitting.
