Speaker 1 (00:00):
Yes, hey everyone, this is your girl, SCI Book out
(01:12):
eight four three, and it is another Tuesday night. How
are you guys doing? All right, that's what I'm talking
about today. I have had a beautiful day. South Carolina
is so pretty when it's cool, not flooding and not raining.
(01:39):
South Carolina can be so beautiful. But if any if
it's hot, raining, flooding, storming, I don't like South Carolina
that much. But again, my name is Patria S. Grimble
and I am SC book out eight four three, and
we are here on another Tuesday night, and I have
a new book, and I have a new author for you.
(02:00):
Ok you guys, So you know I put the call
out from my authors because I always want to meet
my new authors. Okay, this author hit me up and say, hey,
I would love to be on your show. And I
was like, all right, let's bring in. Let's bring it.
Her spirit is so beautiful, she's sweet, she's patient, and
(02:22):
she got a new book that's out for you. Guys.
Guess what, it ain't your timing. And you're gonna wonder
why I said that, because guess what, we all know
it's on God's timing, correct, all right, So we may
think that we have it all under control. We ain't
(02:43):
doing anything. It's God and it's his timing and he's
gonna make it do what it do when he's ready
to make it do what he do. So that's why
he said, trust and know that I he is God.
So we're gonna bring up our author, Pamela Nace Johnson,
(03:05):
and she's gonna tell a little bit about her book.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
Okay, come on up, girly, come on up. Oh, we
can't buy you. Where are you, hey, sweetie? How are you?
Speaker 3 (03:29):
Hello? Hello? Hello?
Speaker 1 (03:32):
I am so glad to meet you and enjoin you
tonight in the hot seat. In the hot seat. You
are in the hot seat. But it won't be too hot.
I promise you it won't be too hot, because right
now it's all about you and your new book. But
before we get to your book, tell us a little
(03:54):
bit about yourself.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
Yes, I am Pamela nance Johnson. I am not necessarily
a new author. This is my new solo project, or
my first solo project, a thirty day devotional. You're not
too busy. It's God's time anyway. But before that, I
called myself the anthology author because my launch into the
(04:22):
literary world was through writing chapters in anthologies. It was
about twenty seventeen when I was looking for a writing conference,
but I wanted it to specifically be Christian, and I
wanted to be with some other women of faith. Just
(04:42):
so happened they happened to be women of color, so
that was definitely appealing as well. But the Christian Book
Lover's Retreat was a divine moment for me to find
that resource. I attended for two years as a reader
and kind of dabbled in, you know, speaking to people
(05:03):
and wondering, now, how do you get into this independent
self publishing world. But I'm sitting next to and attending
workshops with, you know, best selling authors who are very
down to earth and you know, not gatekeeping, as that
new term goes. But one person in particular that I
met just having lunch said to me, you just need
(05:26):
to start writing. That's what you need to do. So
next time I see you, she said, I want to
hear you call yourself an author. So I said, well,
I'm not quite ready yet. So that was twenty seventeen,
twenty eighteen, she saw me, we saw each other. She said,
are you Are you an author yet? I'm like no, ma'am.
(05:47):
But twenty nineteen, the Christian Book Lover's Retreat has an
anthology call out for people to write. In this anthology,
it was called Back in the Day, and you have
to write a story that was your testimony of overcoming
a situation or being delivered from something of that nature.
(06:10):
So I'm like, okay, this is my time, because I
said I'm not going to see her again and not
be able to answer because she kind of pushed me.
But Roshinda pink Peakins lives out in the Midwest in Missouri,
Kansas City area, and she did not come to the
twenty nineteen but I reached out to her after that
(06:30):
and said, you know, I'm published now I did it,
So that was really how I got started, and from
there things just kept moving forward. I continue to attend
the Christian Book Lover's Retreat, and I'm sure that in
directly somebody pointed me in your direction through a connection,
(06:51):
because most of my network, and I'm very selective, have
come through someone by word of mouth through the Christian
Book lover story. So that's kind of how I got started,
and it all brought me to the place I am now.
I appreciate those opportunities that came in those five or
six anthologies writing devotions with the guests, being a guest blogger.
(07:18):
I'm sorry, and it all brought me to where we
are now. So do you.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
Feel that that that was great preparation for you to
get your own book out?
Speaker 3 (07:32):
Absolutely, the premise or the design for You're not too busy.
It's God's time anyway. I am a commuter. I work
in If anybody knows anything about the dmv DC Maryland
and Virginia area, if you work for the federal government,
(07:55):
most people commute into the district. My commute usually last
a minimum of an hour and a half ah hour.
So I ride which you you would think it's a
charter bus something of that effect, but there are lots
of us who do that. I am on this bus
and I'm thinking, you know, there are people on here complaining,
(08:18):
people just you know, in the morning, just not very pleasant.
Now I'm not the most chipper person earlier in the morning,
but I'm not complaining and you know, being negative and
all of that. But I chose to sit down. When
I sat in my seat, I said, well, this will
be my quiet time, so I wouldn't write and I'm
(08:39):
gonna pray for my family. I'm praying for these people
on this bus because people got things going on at
five thirty in the morning on the bus. Praying for
the bus driver. Can we get up and down this
highway to work and back home safely, because that's the blessing.
Don't assume because you leave it home today that you're
gonna make it back safely. So I was praying for
(09:02):
those things, protection, safe travel, and then I got my
phone out. I love music, so I'm listen to a
few gospel songs and I would get a scripture. So
I'm having it developed into my own devotion time. And
it wasn't all the full ride because honestly I took
(09:22):
a little nap, but every morning I started doing that,
and then I started to folks post it on my
Facebook page. I'd say, on my way to work with
a prayer. Sometime I type out a prayer, other times
I just say, on my way to work with a prayer,
this scripture. I put the scripture and this song. I
(09:43):
go to YouTube and get a link to a song
or whatever song I'm listening to, so they all kind
of tied in together. I just did that for me,
but I shared it with my friends, anybody who was
paying attention. I started to get great feedback. Every now
and then somebody was say, you know what, haven't heard
that song in a long time, or you know, say
(10:04):
a prayer for me while you're praying, or you know,
that's one of my favorite scriptures, something to that effect.
So I also begin to call these days like commuter
chronicles because those interesting things that happened on the bus
I put. You know, I'm riding the bus and this
lady back here is talking the whole way. I'm like, okay, man,
(10:28):
were trying to sleep, can you It was all I
can do one day to say, okay, Lord, I'm by,
I'm you know, right on my tongue because I'm a pleasant,
nice You said all those wonderful things about me. But
at five point thirty in the morning, we're trying to
get a little sleep before we, you know, get to work,
(10:49):
you are just chatty keithy. I'm like, old Lord, he's
either keep my tongue or do something about her. So
those kind of things I take to get inside myself
from him. Come down, talk to God, go to sleep.
Five thirty in the morning, Yes, ma'am. Yes, and you
(11:10):
said an hour to hour and a half. I get
on the bus now at like five oh five, and
I pull up to my agency at around six or so,
little after six. But it takes me thirty minutes to
get to the commuter line to get on the bus.
But I knew what I signed up for when I,
(11:32):
you know, did this. So yeah, but this.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
Is telling me not to complain about Charleston traffic anymore.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
Lord, I hear you.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
I will never complain. But you had that opportunity to
have that It's not like one on one personal time
because there are others around, but you so had that
chance to have that one on one with God and
be like, all right, my Lord, this kind of day
(12:06):
I need from you absolutely. So I would say that
that's like one of the best ways to well, it
is the best way to start your morning, but a
very productive way to deal with this long commute. And
then it turns into this beautiful book that I'm about
(12:29):
to show you guys right here on the screen. So
tell us a little bit about this devotion.
Speaker 3 (12:41):
So I am you see the people. I intentionally picked
pictures of people, like I said, for my community. I
wanted you to see that even if you're riding the
train or the bus, that that is your time. I
rode the train before the bus, and on the train
here they have a quiet car, which means that that
(13:05):
car is reserved, and there are little stickers up there
that say, you know, no talking and no turn your
cell phone off and all that type of thing. So
that was a little different. But I was very intentional
about including everyone as well, So I hope that I
did that. But you'll see the time the clock there
(13:27):
in the reference to the time, but it's not restricted
to everybody traveling. You could be on a plane, you
could be sitting in the waiting room, you could be
sitting in the you know, the line waiting for your
child to pick up from school, because each one of them,
they're not that long. Intentionally, I kind of hit it
and move on to the next one, meaning that I
(13:48):
will give you a little anecdote about me. Usually there
are some things that have happened in my travels and
I kind of highlight a little bit, or I share
a little bit about my fan. So I'll give you
that anecdote, and then you'll get a scripture and you'll
get some words a short message from me, and I
(14:10):
even asked your reflection question and there's a short prayer,
and oh I put a song suggestion. So I couldn't
put the link to the song, but I gave you
a song title and the artist. So I want you
to get the particular song, not just you know, amazing
grace by whomever. I want you to get this one.
(14:34):
So I was very intentional on let me do these
three things and that's it. This is your Like you
said away to one of my friends, say what a
great way to command your day.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
Yeah, I was just saying that is a way, especially
when you put that song at the end. A lot
of people don't do that. They would just I don't
want to say, cater you got, but for the lack
of words, they would cater with a passage. But if
(15:10):
you're somebody like me, I love music. Yes, right at
my desk, my coworkers will tell you music is my life.
Even at home. Music is just me and you putting
that that song at the bottom, that that that means
a lot to me. So I would like to say
(15:30):
thank you from all us audio reader readers and audio
music people, thank you for that.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
Absolutely because music is universal, but it can be uplifting,
it can be soothing, it can comfort you. I try
to give some diversity, but yes, the music was definitely
important to me as well, and I wanted to make
sure that the music spoke to the subject matter of
(15:59):
that particularly day.
Speaker 1 (16:01):
So now remember music, because we're gonna come back to
that later on.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
Okay, But I.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
Would like to ask in which one of your devotions
I don't like to, but I will put you on
the spot is your favorite.
Speaker 3 (16:23):
So the probably one of the ones that I wrote
towards the end, and it's the most current in real time.
Talked about this bus and it definitely emphasizes timing. So
we have a new bus route that I take, and
their drivers rotate every now and then. So one the
(16:45):
first driver that we had, he would come to the
bus stop early, so the bus pulls off at five
oh five, but he would be at the bus stop
probably at a quarter till five, which means that we
get out your car, get on the bus, get your
good seat and all that, and be relaxing until it's
(17:06):
time or until everybody else gets here. Well, this new
bus driver, he doesn't come early. People are out there
lined up, they complaining where is the bus driver. They
saw him get off the exit, but he didn't pull
up to the commuter lot. Where is he? Blah blah blah.
I'm like, but it's not really five h five. He's
(17:28):
not late, he's on time. We just got so used
to him being the other driver being early that you
all got kind of spoiled. And now y'all murmuring and
complaining like the people in the Bible murmured and complained.
But this new guy. They gave the man a hard time.
(17:49):
So I put one in here about that that just
like we want God sometime to do things when we
wanted to do it. We wanted to be early, we
wanted to come right now, wanted instantaneously God, whow, I
gotta wake all of that. So these people standing up
in their bus stop doing just that. And the man
pulls up at five o'clock. Everybody gets on the bus.
(18:12):
He pulls out a mm hmmm. You can't. You can't
tell me when not to come. He's right, you can't rush.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
I wonder why we want to rush God. I really
feel like God does us like he bakes the cake.
You can't rush that cake. No, rush the cake. It's
gonna be half done. Just how it take his time?
And I guess and even with the younger generation, everything
(18:51):
so popcorny like pop, that's it the answer, they go.
But yeah, we have to learn hes and just he said,
I am God. Wait and see, wait and see. H
very very it's crazy how you talk about that. And
(19:14):
I just spoke to my daughter a little while ago,
by patients, I just spoke.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
To her about it.
Speaker 1 (19:21):
So it's very, very, very timely that you said that.
So tell us a little bit more about your book.
What else can we expect from it? What you can
expect is to get a closer relationship. This is what
(19:42):
my desire is that when you look at a relationship,
it takes time to build a relationship and you have
to spend quality time with someone to get to know
them and for them to get to know you. So
how else are you going to get closer in your
relationship or your faith walk unless you spend that time.
(20:03):
So in these thirty days, I want to take you
on a journey, but I'm right there with you. I'm
giving you some guidance. I'm not trying to take the
place of like you said, Bible studies. Usually on Wednesday,
nights some places Tuesday night. I dare not try to
take the place of your Bible study. What I want
(20:24):
to do is enhance it, to just give you something
a little extra, so that when you have that moment,
you might not have time to pull out the full
King James Bible and read the whole chapter, but you
might stick this book in your bag and be able
to say, this is day one. Let me see what's
(20:46):
going on, you know, let me study day one. It
might take you ten minutes at the most, and that's
including the song. But it's quality, not quantity, that is
the importance for me. So I want you, the readers,
to get something out of this to build their relationship,
(21:07):
whether you're a new believer and you need something easy
to read and something you can relate to, something that
is you know, we all go through we all get busy,
but just pause for a few moments and spend some
time with God. You are not that busy. You're not
too busy there, dol. You gotta give him not time
(21:30):
if you expect the blessings from him. If you can
give his time, you will never get his blessing.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
And you'll never get to know him fully. This morning
My song was on my Facebook Zion. Zion is calling
me to a higher place in praise. So how are
you going to go higher if you don't ever spend
any time?
Speaker 1 (21:57):
Ooh facts, yep, you just yep. How are you going
to go high if you don't have any time?
Speaker 3 (22:06):
And if you're too busy? Somewhere in here I say,
if you're too busy, and then I heard this, if
you're too busy, then you're doing more than God ever
intended you to do. Your life. Can't be that busy
that you got time to do everything else except spend
some time with him. That's not what we're designed to do. Okay.
(22:35):
I don't want to preach and you know, hit you
over the head with the Bible, but I want to
give you some word and some encouragement.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
Yeah you just roll right down my street and park
right out my front door. Yeah you did?
Speaker 3 (22:50):
You did?
Speaker 1 (22:51):
I I want to say, about like a month or two,
maybe three months, I've been intentional set my alarm for
five am, and my best friend, my mentor her and
a group of ladies. They get up every morning at
(23:13):
five am and we have a prayer call and it's on.
If you guys want to join for the Crew podcast.
It is every every day five am in the morning
and it's on I think we're on TikTok Okay. And
(23:35):
I saw the blessings that he was that he was
doing in my kid's life, and I saw what he
was doing in my life, and I'm like, I gotta
get I got, I gotta get right. I've got to
reverence you, to thank you for what you have given
to us. Because it wasn't for God, me and my
(23:58):
crew will not be y'all today. So I had to
make sure that was done. So getting up at that
five am, now I'm gonna be straight up and holedge
with everybody. There's some five am ms. I get up
and I fall back to sleep and I tell God,
please forgive me. But then there's moment as I get
up and I have it playing on my TV or
(24:20):
on my phone, and I'm eyeing my daughter's clothes and
just starting to get that atmosphere correct for us to
have that great day. So I said, where are you
coming from? Well, guess what time to go back to
the hot seat. So remember we were talking behind the
(24:40):
scenes and I told you about those fun questions.
Speaker 3 (24:43):
Yes here yo, all right?
Speaker 1 (24:47):
I have your devotion and you get to choose one
song that always puts you in the correct way mood feeling.
What song? What it being? Why did you choose that song?
Speaker 3 (25:09):
Let's see, I am going to go with Oh, okay,
I don't know now if I did, I'm sorry. I
don't know if I needed this song. But it is
(25:31):
my new favorite song. So can I give it to
you anyway?
Speaker 1 (25:36):
It doesn't have in your book. Oh, it does not
have to be in your book whatever.
Speaker 3 (25:41):
That's great because of the song is the promises of
God are yes and Amen. It's called Promises. It's by
Lisa Knowles. I love that song. I've never heard that
I could sing it. I'm not gonna sound good singing
(26:02):
because it's a female quartet group and I just love him.
You know how you talked about behind the scenes. We
were talking about the museum in Charleston, and you told
me about the church, the church scene, and how it
was the old church in the wooden floors. You could
just picture all of that. Lisa knows Smith I think
(26:24):
it's her last name, but Nose is in their K
N O W L E s. She is part of
the lead singer of the group. This is her song,
but it's called Promises and it just takes you there
because it's letting you know that God's promises are sure,
(26:46):
the yes and a man and it just has that
quartet feel. It's that foot stumping you know, it takes
you back. So it would fit right into that church
at the museum. But I love that song.
Speaker 1 (27:02):
I love that. I love that, so for me, that
same exact question, I would you guys this man's church
is run across the street from me and I could
never remember the name, but it's that song you fight on.
Speaker 3 (27:16):
I love that song too.
Speaker 1 (27:21):
I love that song, so I can see that and
I wrote down that song, so I'm gonna listen to
that once we get off the air, I'm gonna take
a listen to it. Here's my next one question. Your
devotion has been turned into a daily special and you
(27:42):
can have your favorite gospel artists to do one of
the segments. Who would that gospel artist be and why did.
Speaker 3 (27:52):
You choose them?
Speaker 1 (27:55):
Hmm?
Speaker 3 (27:56):
It would be Shirley Caesar because Shirley Caesar is an icon, legendary, timeless,
because she's still she can relate to, you know, the
caravans when she sang with them, and then you could
(28:16):
bring her up to Kurt Franklin. So yeah, she and
I would want to give her her flowers while she's living.
I want to sit to chat with Shirley Seesar and
she just looks She's just beautiful. She just has a
beautiful spirit. When she sing a song, she's telling you
(28:40):
a story. Every song is a story, it's a testimony.
So I would have to say, Shirley Caesar, oh see me,
you need.
Speaker 1 (28:50):
To hang out. Oh my god. I love Shirley Seesar,
and you are so correct that she was with the
Caravans and she turned around to do Kirk Franklin. I
loved her when she was with the Caravans because I
loved that old time gospel feel. Or my daughter loves her.
When she did the rap song with Tie Trippitt and
(29:14):
she was rapping, and I was like, get hurt. This
lady has her gospel career has spound. Oh my god,
it's crazy. And she she just seems to evolve, but
she always has God in front.
Speaker 3 (29:33):
Absolutely she was It's an evangelism type of music storytelling.
She going to pull you into that story. Whatever she's
telling me. This is how long it is that. I
remember my mother had eight track tapes of Shirley Caesar
plant in the you know, family stationa eight tracks.
Speaker 1 (29:57):
Oh my god. My grandmother went to go see her
in person. And this was before Hugo, so it was
twenty five plus years and she went on the stage
with Shirley Caesar and it was this build in that's
it's apartments now, but it was called County Hall and
(30:17):
he used to do all kinds of concerts there. And yes,
and even to today, I have one of my aunts
who loves Shirley Casar loved Shirley Sesaron still does. So
I had one more fun question for you. Okay, they
love your devotion. They say, you know what, now, we
(30:40):
want to do a documentary on you. What actress or
gospel singer would you like to play you in a biopic?
And why? Why did you choose that person?
Speaker 3 (30:56):
So actress or gospel actress or gospel artist. Okay, I
cannot think of this actress name right now, but she
is the young lady who was in the Tyler Perry
(31:18):
movie Gosh, what's the name of the movie, where she
was the wife and the husband. Basically, your husband cheated
on her and Shamar Moore was in the movie and
I can't think of her name, but I can see
(31:38):
her face.
Speaker 1 (31:40):
Oh, I know exactly who you're talking about.
Speaker 3 (31:48):
Yes, her Helen who I just like her. It's a
shame I can't remember her name right now. Kimberly Elise, Yes,
that's it. So I like Kimberly Elise, not just for
that role, but I've seen her in other films in
(32:12):
I just kind of like her style and I think
she's she's a great actress. I can relate to her.
She is a great actress because she brought so much.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
Emotion, especially when she she hit on that baseball the
little kids baseball bat. Christina know, ain't Christina but now
but eating up the salad in front of but hey
women scoring?
Speaker 3 (32:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (32:43):
Hey, So before me and tonight, tell your new readers
you're soon to be new readers, and people who are
already reading your books, how they can follow you on
social media and upcoming events.
Speaker 3 (32:59):
Okay, So I am Pamela Nance Johnson on Facebook, Pamela
nance jo on Instagram, and I am just getting into
different platforms. So I'd be very transparent with you if
I did not give you the right handle I'm sure
(33:21):
that Patrice put it on the bottom of the screen. However,
So the main way for you to follow me is
definitely on Facebook. I do have an Instagram page, and
I have a website looks like I got it right,
and I have several things under development. I have an
(33:42):
Amazon author Central page, so that's where you get to
see this devotional. The other thing I started recently is
making coloring books, so you'll see some coloring books if
you go to Amazon too in my name. That's the
fun thing I've learned how to do. I'm going to
make covering books to go with this devotional. I've also
(34:04):
learned how to make some journals, so that's in the
work too. But the events I have coming up, I'm
going to be at two branches of our local library.
I can really appreciate that you work at the library.
That was like the coolest place for me coming up anyway. Yeah,
so those places. I'm going to be at a conference
(34:26):
in Williamsburg, Virginia in March, that is in twenty twenty six.
I have a couple of other things going on online.
But if you come to my Facebook page, you'll see
different things that I have listed. This has been really fun.
I appreciate it my first, I said, my first interview
(34:47):
with the new book, and I appreciate the opportunity. It's
really cool hanging out with you.
Speaker 1 (34:55):
It is such an honor to be the first and
to say I thank you for being with us tonight,
you guys. All her information is at the bottom. The
book is already out on Amazon. She has some other
links where you can get it, but if you check
