Now it is Tom for this week'sepisode of Dangerous asam. The original
air date April the twenty eighth, nineteen fifty one, and the title is
the Outlaw Radio Station Dangerous Assignment, starring Brion Dunlady as Steve Mitchell. Yeah,
(02:50):
danger is my assignment. I getsent to a lot of places I
can't even pronounce. They all spellthe same thing, though, trouble.
But when I walk into the commissioner'soffice, I don't realize that this is
IM's going to wind up with mygetting shot at just for trying to turn
off a radio programing. Reality hadan assignment for me. Why do Steve
(03:15):
I ever thought of getting into radio? Oh me, I should say,
not why you holding auditions or something? I want you to get into the
business, just long enough to getsomebody else out of it. Oh I'm
not sure. Now, Look youlook, Steve at this man for the
Balkan area, this country here. That's about the only friendly country left in
that area. The rate things aregoing, it may not be friendly for
(03:35):
much longer. Or Steve, there'san outlaw broadcasting station somewhere in that country.
The man who's doing the broadcasting isfilling the air with a choice assortment
of lies and propaganda about about ourcountry, and there's the result has been
to put a strain on our relationswith them, and a set up internal
tensions over there which are in effecttearing the country apart. Is there by
any chance an election coming up overthere soon? Yes, Steve, we
(03:58):
know who's behind broadcast, all right, but what we've got to do is
to stop him. Well, itseems to me that this is a matter
for the Balkan country to handle. What's it got to do with us?
We think the broadcasting is being doneby an American. Why the government over
there has asked our cooperation? Isee, obviously they haven't been able to
locate this broadcasting station. No,it's undoubtedly another one. Look, I
(04:19):
wonder if maybe an old trick isn'tbeing used, I mean, well,
making it sound like the broadcast iscoming from a certain country, when actually
it's across the border in another country. No, they've assured me that the
broadcast is actually originating from inside thecountry. Steve, the items which the
broadcast comments on sometimes are so recentthat he'd have to be inside the country
(04:39):
to know about them. I see, Well, whom do I work with?
Over there? Man named Prebow, one of their intelligence agents. He's
waiting for you in their capital rightnow. Or Steve, get over there,
work with pre Bow, locate thisoutlaw broadcast and put them out of
business once and for all. Well, I said, you've got your assignment.
Good luck. A National broadcasting companyis presenting Dangerous Assignment, starring Brian
(05:13):
Dunlevy and the role of Steve Mitchell, colorful two fisted government agent. At
all those places of the world wheredanger and intrigue walk hand in hand,
there you will find Steve Mitchell onanother dangerous assignment. Here. I've got
(05:33):
my assignment, just a little matterof dropping into a balk And country and
finding an outlaw broadcaster nobody's been ableto locate so far, and then putting
him out of business. And Idon't doubt that somewhere along the line,
I'll run up against somebody who'll betrying to do likewise to me. It's
Friday evening when my plane lands inthe Capitol and I head for their intelligence
office, an agent prebow. Hetakes me into the radio room, where
(05:55):
a little gent is sitting by areceiver. This is Kovac of our radio
division, mister Mitchell Covac. Iam honored. Mister Mitchell, you are
expecting this outlaw broadcaster to come onand here the night prival. Yes,
in about a few minutes. Asyou see, we have a radio direction
finder here. I also have onethirty miles northwest of here, and a
third one twenty miles to the east. At the way you can get effects
(06:17):
on him Kovac. Yes. Unfortunatelythis procedure has done us no good in
the past. Each time we raceto the position Kovac and his men had
plotted on the map. Yeah,no, what do you mean nobody is
there when we arrived. He musthave his fans metter mounted in a car
truck. Any idea who the guyis? Language expert stell us. He
(06:38):
is a native American, probably fromyour Middle West. At the list I
gave you a prival, the onelisting American expatriots. Oh, yes,
here it is Mitchell. I've studiedit over and found three names which also
appeared on a list of tourist visaswhich have been granted during the past six
months. Oh you know those threemen have been in this country recently.
Okay, who are they? Thefirst one is a William Teal Tale.
(07:00):
Let's see what I've got on hisbackground. Yeah, yeah, wham Teal
ex newspaper political writer with a criminalrecord in the States, wanted for extortion,
illegal possession of firearms, violation, and narcotic sac You know it sounds
like a real sweet kid. Who'snext on your list? A Carl Fenton
Benton? Yeah, former professor, great cause joiner, they save the world
(07:24):
type. I guess who's the third? Arnold christ I don't even have to
look him up. He's been inour hare for years. What do you
mean professional agitator makes his living thatway? I guess, always trying to
get himself arrested so they can bea big fat martyr. I see,
so our boy could be one ofthose three. Teal Fenton twist. What
do you mean, my long sufferingand much oppressed friends, Yeah, this
(07:46):
is the voice true. I'll betwell. Let's take a look at the
day's notes. See. Kovac isreceiving reports from the other direction finders over
his earphones. He's plotting their lineson the map. I should say,
the United Nations are blundering along underthe control of old uncle money Bags.
So you'll get this position already.Co back, Yes, as you see,
(08:09):
I have added my own line tothe map and plotted the fix.
D you Okay, let's go prepo. We should almost be there, Mitchell.
According to the map, the broadcastcame from this field. We are
(08:30):
approaching. I see lights on theother side of the field. Priple.
Yes, our other units are approachingalong the other road. We will have
the field completely surroundead raise yourself.I'm going to turn off the road now.
Okay, here, I'll swait thefield with a spot line. Hey
stop, the car prible empty. The whole field is empty. Well,
(08:54):
I would be no cover for anyoneto hide an either. This is what
happens to us every time, Mitchell. This guy must be part gopher.
Okay, might as well get backto headquarters. What time is it,
(09:16):
Mitchell, ten minutes to midnight. You'll say this Jen has another broadcast right
at midnight. Usually, Well,we might as well try again. Kovac
still and yes see, he andhis daughter are waiting for us in front
of the building. What luck didyou have? Prepo the usual Kovac?
Not a trace of him. Ido not understand it, nor do why.
(09:37):
Oh, I do not believe Mitchellhas met your daughter. I beg
your pardon. This is Annah, mister Mitchell, Eloanna. I'm pleased to
meet you. Mister Mitchell. Ihope you will be able to help locate
this outlaw broadcaster. He's certainly causinga lot of trouble for us. All
yeah, Covac. You'd be ableto tell if he was broadcasting from a
plane, wouldn't you. Oh yes, our radar stations would pick up the
(09:58):
plane at once. Well, letus go up to Headquarterism, are you
coming with Uskovac? I will beup in time for the next broadcast very
well after you METU. Thanks.Let's see what floor is that again?
Eight? The top button? Okay. You know this must be getting pretty
monotonous for you, Privo, chasingafter this guy and winding up with a
(10:20):
handful of air each time. SoI'd like very much to get my hands
on him. He's doing the causeof democracy in my country a great deal
of harm. Of course. Iam certain enables across the border to the
east are enjoying the whole affair hugely. I don't know it. Hey,
what's the matter with the elevator?Quit? But we are only halfway up
to the top, halfway between thefourth and fifth floor, to be exactly,
(10:43):
I'll try the button. Nothing, this is the emergency saying button here?
Huh, yes, I'll try that. Dead. All the power must
be off. Well, let's seeif we can bring any help. Hey,
anybody around? I don't know ifthat will help or not, Mitchell.
At this out of denied. Thebuilding is deserted except for the night
(11:05):
watchman, and there is no tellingwhich section of the building he might be
in. Well, you got mebetter ideas, no, len, oil
up your tonsils and join me.Maybe we can raise it. What's the
matter? Listen here? Anything?Yes? What is it? I don't
know. I'm trying to prag itsort of a rasping metallic sound, and
(11:26):
it's coming from somewhere above us andthe elevator shaft by the sound of it,
yes, strange. The elevator cageis vibrating slightly. Yeah, Hey,
wait, what is it? IfI can climb up the side of
the cage a little. What areyou doing, wedge shut? Oh fine,
look a prival. Somehow we've gotto get this trap door on top
(11:48):
of the cage opened. The horsetoo late, too late? What do
you mean? I just figured outwhat that sound over us is. It's
a hack saw. Yes, youare right, Mitchell. Somebody is trying
to saw the elevator cable in two. That's right, prevol We don't figure
a way out of this rat trapfast, we'll be taken a one way
trip to the basement. Three timesmean good times on NBC. Just listen
(12:20):
to the stars on tomorrow's broadcast ofThe Big Show Jimmy Durranty, Milton Burl,
Gordon McRae, ethel Merman, RosemaryClooney and Frank Lovejoy, plus Meredith
Wilson's Big Show Orchestra and Chorus andyour MC on The Big Show is the
Glamorous and Unpredictable to Lula Bankhead Andon Theater Guild on the air tomorrow you
(12:41):
will hear a one hour adaptation ofthe comedy The Man in Possession starring Rex
Harrison and Lilly Palmer. And nowback to Dangerous Assignment starring Bryan Don Levy
Steve Mitchell. The trap door isit moving any still stocked like I'll have
(13:13):
to think of something else. Well, perhaps if we were the minute.
I think I got it, Mitchell. What are you doing? He looks
as if you're trying to hang fromthe side of the cage by your hands
upside down. That's just what Iam doing. I can hold on.
Maybe I can do some good withmy feet. Here. Let's support your
shoulders. Okay, now not yet. It's coming here, Mitchell. You
(13:37):
first, it open? Yeah, here, let me down, Mitchell.
I can see a figure up theresawing at the cable. Wait, now
he's looking down at us. Getyour gun, yes, right here,
you get him. I don't knowhe dove out of side. Hey,
the cage cycled and just then comeon, I'll pull you up after me.
(14:00):
Okay, give me a hand, very well, you come. Yeah.
Look, wait, can climb ontothe fifth floor landing from here on
top of the cage. Wait,I'll side. The door is open there,
Mitchell, the cable it's starting togive way. Dive for the landing
that goes the cage. We pounddown the stairs. But a boy has
(14:28):
done a one white lead on us. By the time we get to the
ground floor is nowhere inside. Covacand his daughter Anna are still standing in
front of the building. Co back, go back. Did the men come
out of the building. Yes,but a few seconds ago there he is
just rounding the corner. He shutyou you're leaving you dot it out of
side that on the corner. It'syou. Hey. When we get around
(14:50):
the corner of the building, theguy is gone. We searched the ever
everybody's done a good job of droppingout of sight. Finally we get back
to Kovac and on in front ofthe building. She's dabbing at a sleeve
with her handkerchief. I think thebleeding is almost double. You see,
Anna, it was not as badas we thought. Oh, you were
very fortunate, Kovac. It's onlya nick in the follow Yes, come,
(15:11):
we had better go upstairs, gentlemen, the Outlaw broadcast will be starting
any minute, and we must beready to start tracking. Larrange relief for
you. Kovac. Why, Iam perfectly capable of handling it, Premo.
Yes, but your arm scratch nothingmore. Well, even so,
maybe you've got to let your daughtertake you home and sort of I insist
on being allowed to perform my duties. But no, okay, Kovac Sure.
(15:37):
Kovac's daughter Anna starts to leave, and while he's saying goodbye to where
I take pre blew off the oneside and try out a wild idea on
him. Only all of a suddenhe doesn't think it so wild, and
Kovac joins us again and we headupstairs to the intelligence headquarters. Pretty soon
the outlaw broadcaster comes on the airand Kovac starts tracking. He gets the
other two reports over his air phonesand draws the lines. Then he flips
(15:58):
off the receiver and hands pre bowlmap. Here you are, cripple,
that's just where you got on plottedh Yes, right there where the three
lines intersect. If you hurry, perhaps this time you'll not get away.
Yeah, but why do you notget started? You may escape again if
you delay. That's right, covictdo not understand, Priple. What is
(16:22):
the meaning of this way? Doyou? Mitchell? Just stand there and
look at me like that? Yourboy I ought to be finished by now.
Pre Yes, he is in thenext room. Here he is.
Now you have the position plotted onyour map. Here you are what what
is this all about? That's whatwe'd like to know, Covic. As
your symmetrial, there is quite adiscrepancy in the two locations you had.
(16:47):
Another man plotted broadcast and located onthe map is quite a distance away from
the location you gave us. Thisother location is wrong. Covac. Quit
stalling. I figured you were alittle too eager to stay on duty a
few minutes ago, and it startedme thinking, one very good reason for
not finding this broadcaster is that you'vebeen plotting a location wrong on purpose.
(17:10):
No, it is use let's Covac. I have the proof right here in
my hand. Why are you thendoing a Covac? According to Prevo,
you've always been a pretty loyal citizen. Yes, it is true. I
have been giving false locations, butI had no choice. You must believe
me. I had no choice. What do you mean? My son?
(17:32):
Your son? But our language expertsassured us the broadcaster is an American.
You know you do not understand thecountry across the border from here. They
are the ones who are behind thisbroadcast. What's that got to do with
it? My son lives in thatcountry, is a shopkeeper. When this
broadcasting first started, the agents fromthat country visited me secretly and told me
they would kill my son unless Iagree to help them out. I had
(17:56):
no choice. Oh, you've beengiving funny locations right from the start.
Yes, but now we have acorrect position on him for the first time,
came Mitchell. Perhaps our hunting luckis due to improve at last.
When I head to the location, there's other man that plotted for us.
(18:17):
It's a sort of a square platanear the edge of the city. We
get there, stop the car,get out and take a good look around,
and that then it's nowhere inside itsure isn't Mitchell. I do not
understand it this time. We arecertain we had the right location. It
must have gotten some kind of awarning. But how I don't know unless
they wait, here's your answer,Preble looking that little shop with her back
(18:40):
to us. Come on right way, That is Anna, Yeah, Mitchell,
she sees us. Now just holdit where you are, Annah,
it is, mister Mitchell. Yeah, big surprise meeting us here, isn't
it? Of course? I saveit. Anna. You tipped off the
broadcaster that we were on our wayhere, didn't you. I don't know
(19:02):
what you're talking about. Your fatherhas already confessed to his part, and
this Anna, he confessed, Whydid you warn the broadcaster when father was
wounded? He was afraid he wouldnot be able to do the plotting on
the map, so he told meto come here to the square and warn
the man who does the broadcasting.I was afraid of what they would do
(19:23):
to my brother if this man wascaught. Well, you've really been a
big help to Anna, and bynow the gent were after has probably slipped
across the border. If he continueshis broadcasting from that country, we will
be powerless to stop you. I'msorry, mister Mitchell. Oh that fixes
everything. If there is anything Ican do to make amends. You gotta
look at this guy, didn't you. Yes, of course, I've got
(19:45):
three pictures. Take a look.See if you recognize any of them.
Right? No, no, yes, yes, this is the man,
William Til he's the one with thecriminal record. Yeah, but that doesn't
help. If we can't lay ourhands on him. Perhaps you can.
I can arrange for you to slipacross the border. Across the border,
(20:07):
yes, and then you would beon your own. Surely they would not
know where you got your information. That way, my brother would not be
dangerous. Perhaps that would make upfor what father and I thought we had
to do. Okay, that's adeal, Mitchell. I strongly advise you
think this over. I just did. I will make all the arrangements,
mister Mitchell in one hour. Theperson who's to take you across the border.
(20:29):
We'll pick you up at this cornerin an automobile. Okay, Anna,
I'll be here, mister Mitchell. We know that Anna has not been
trustworthy in the past. How doyou know you can trust her now?
I don't, but I'll find outin about an hour. Pre Ball leaves
(20:53):
still shaking his head, and Iwait out. They are right, and
Madonna car swings around the corner andpulls into the curb. The door or
opens and I have a board.Okay, let's hey Annah. Yes,
Steve, you mean you're the onewho's gonna take me across the border.
Yes. We will drive to adeserted stretch of the boarder, hide the
car across on foot, and thenmake our way to the city where my
(21:15):
brothers shop. Ish, I didn'tyou tell us an hour ago that you
were going to be my guide?I knew pre Boat did not trust me.
I see, Steve, do youtrust me, don't you. I'll
let you know a little later.Anna. We are almost at the board
(21:37):
of steave. You said this wasa deserted stretch. You weren't kidding,
Anna, who's the bucked wire pants? Yeah? We didn't make it here
any too soon? Be lightening anhour? Looks like okay, I'll hold
the strands of part ware. Youwhat easy? Quiet? Listen, somebody
coming. Wait, it's their borderpatroller. Quick over in these bushes this
(22:03):
out of screen looks like the stretchof the border wasn't so deserted after all.
Don't understand it? Deep they areusually no patrols? It all here?
Whyet here they come? I watchit by the morning. That was
(22:27):
close. You're telling me what anunlucky accident by breaking the twig when I
did? You're sure it was anaccident, of course? What do you
mean? Let it go for now? Come on, they're out of hearing.
Now let's go. We crawled throughthe fence and take the back roads
(22:48):
to the city. It's a fewminutes past noon when we get to the
shop of Honor's brother, a gentnamed Boris. He hustles us into the
back room and Anna fills him inon the deal. Sure, this explains
why I've been watching spied upon constantlythese last few months. I mean a
virtual prisoner did not know. Yes, if other had till pre boat trip
down this outloud broadcaster, this WilliamTeal, you would have been killed bars
(23:11):
And now you see that the Tealis back in this country. Yeah,
yeah, mind if I use yourradio there? Of course not. You
think Tel will continue his broadcast. Will soon find out if he runs through
the schedule. He should be onthere right now. Yeah, this is
the voice EQUI. I am stillin your mids, spite of any lies
(23:33):
you may hear what I've been drivenfrom your country. I will never leave
you until my words are true. But Steve, I don't understand. I
know that he'll cross the border here. He did, but he's trying to
make it sound like he's still inyour country. He's probably broadcasting from the
radio station right here in this city. You know where it is, Boris,
Yes, Come, I will takeyou there. It is the radio
(24:03):
station. Go ahead, But Steve, look in the alley that Movington park
there. Yeah, that the truckdeal was broadcasting from across the border.
Yes, and he must be hereall right, okay, pull up in
front of the building in front.Yeah, yeah, right here, very
well, But you surely are notgoing to walk in your front door.
That's exactly what I'm going to do. Have you gone crazy there? Gods
at the front entrains? How areyou going to get in with this some
(24:27):
fulligits of paper? I don't understand. Look, if you saw somebody walk
into a radio station with ease inhis hand, what would you think that
they'd look like our radio script?I suppose that's right. You are going
to pretain you are working here.I'm gonna make like I own the joint.
You to pull around into the alleyorus see if you can get that
truck started. I'll meet you outthere in about five minutes. I hope
(24:53):
every stick your head into a lion'smouth. That's just how I feel as
I saw her casually up to thefront entrance with my script under my arm,
but the gag works, the guardsignore me. Inside, I start
down the hall, trying to actlike I know where I'm going and just
hoping I don't open the wrong doorand end up in the broom closet.
Then I spot a row of studiosat the end of the hall, each
with a glass window. Inside thethird one, I spot Teal just signing
(25:17):
off. I wait until he comesout into the hall, and then I
ease up to him, but startwalking Toal, Well, what is this?
Who are you? My name's Mitchell. I've come a long way to
pick you up, all the wayfrom the States, the States, and
you're gonna pick me up? That'sa general idea. We're going out the
side door. Oh are we?I suppose I don't want this gun in
(25:38):
my pocket, says you will.Look, you can't get away with this,
Mitchell, It's worth a tryal Wheredo you think you're going to take
me back to the States eventually?Little matter of treason, to say nothing
of a criminal record. You're outof your mind if you think you can
get me back to the States.I'm among friends here. They'll never sign
(25:59):
any edition papers, I know, but the country across the border will.
They've been trying to get you outof there here for money. But I'm
not there now. I'm safe here. That's funny. I'd have sworn.
I heard you say in your broadcastjust a few minutes ago that you are
still in that other country A lot. I look Mitchell. If you think
you're gonna pull anything like that onme, it's just what I do think.
Now, moving, why are wegoing out that side door? Well,
(26:25):
then what I'll let you know assoon as I figure it out.
Open the door. Okay, goodinside, steal leave watch out a card
behind you. Get into Okay, you drive deal, Boris, do you
an honest stay in the back, out of sight. Why do we give
(26:45):
this moving then, Steve, wewould be conspicuous if we can get to
the border before they figure out wherewe're heading. We've got a chance.
Okay, you'll step on it.That's the border of a head, Mitchell,
the bridge across the river. Thisis this bottle where you're crossed into
(27:06):
the other country before ass that's right. I understand you are going to pretend
that you and Teal are crossing theborder to do some more broadcast. That's
right. You and Boris stay outof sight back there, all right,
until I'm still holding that gun onyou in my pocket. Eye. They're
waiting us to stop at the endof the bridge. Okay, all right,
looks like they've got this end ofthe bridge pretty well bordered up.
(27:27):
It's just engaged. Who's that guywalking towards us. That's the captain of
the guards. The other side ofthe river is across the border. Yeah,
okay, as soon as the guardsthrough it, let's just take the
van across nice and easy and justdon't try to get tricky with him.
Well, wow, mister Teal All. Captall, that has been a long
time since I've seen you, andI do not believe I have met the
(27:48):
old faith. I'm a Teal's newassistant. I see. Well, what
are you doing here, mister Teal? Well, we want to get across
the border and do some more broadcasting. Surely, Joe, what do you
mean, mister Teal? You loadedthe boat that is closed this bridge?
Oh? Pretty forgetful of you?Wasn't a Teal cap Wait? Guard running
(28:11):
out of the shack towards us.Must have gotten a phone message. Why
what is this soul about? Sorry, Captain, we're leaving. Step on
the cast Teal, We're gonna crashthat barracat on the bridge. I won't
do it, okay, I willmy worst and a bracious old barn.
Oh no, we can't be theother Heal. Get your foot off the
(28:37):
brake, Lord getting out Teal divinginto the river bars, getting struck across
the bridge. I'm going after Teal. I got water from Teal is trying
to swim back to his pals andgravel ride on an over him to the
(28:57):
other side. The fullest start poppingin the water all around him. I
dive under, grabbed his legs andpull him down with me. I wake
until his heart up for breath, and then I released him. Suddenly we
both surfaced past and just as he'sgathering for her I let him have a
set. He comes out. Idrag him under the bridge with me,
out the range of the border guards. I work him across to the other
bank, where Boris and On arewaiting for me. Are you all right?
(29:19):
Yeah? Here, I will helpit with steel. Just set him
down on the bank when I getmy wind with Oh brother, I'm sure
hate to do that. Every daywe are all safe, all accept Teal.
He will not be doing any morebroadcasting. That's right. You might
(29:40):
say there's no future for him inradio. Matter of fact, there's no
future for him period. Three timesMe and Good Times on NBC, there's

Consideration and courtesy to all motorists.Remember the life you save. Maybe your
own dangerous assignment came to you fromHollywood. This is NBC, the National
Broadcasting Company. Welcome back. Wellkind of the opposite of Radio Free Europe.
(31:51):
As an American citizen going overseas torecord broadcast for the nation's and amazes
or a good career move, Stevereally needed to rethink cutting his prisoner drive.
I mean, particularly being Steve Mitchell, because Steve knows how he would
(32:12):
react in this situation, and hisprisoner reacted pretty much the same way.
Steve seems to have been banking onhis prisoner being one of those people who
kind of panics and gets a bitnervous with a gun pointed at them,
but no such like here, particularlyfacing a potential old treason charge. Well,
(32:36):
now we turn to listener comments andfeedback, and we're going over to
Instagram. And this was a commenton a dangerous assignment video theater episode,
but it's certainly relevant to the radioprogram, the show Those Guys Rights.
Does he instantly blow his cover byproviding someone with his credentials the moment they
(32:58):
ask who he is? This isan interesting point. Now, I do
think there are some people in fictionwho are supposed to have like secret identities
and are very frivolous about it andabout who they disclose it too, and
about who they talk about it around. In modern parlance, of course,
(33:21):
I am thinking of The Flash fromthe Light CWTV series. I've lost count
at how many times the character ofBarry Allen aka the Flash has revealed his
secret identity, and most of thetime it is not to someone who has
(33:43):
a reasonable need to know. Ithink that in many ways it's like pushing
back against the tradition of superheroes hidingidentities from people who care about them and
who have some real place in theirlife and should in a healthy relationship.
(34:07):
No, but to the point whereyou tell people who just it's like,
why didn't you just tell this person? This person is not going to be
back in the series. And ofcourse, in the more golden age sense
you have, Clark Kent on TheAdventures of Superman radio show constantly say things
(34:30):
that if anyone picked up on them, would lead them to conclude that he
was Superman and he's only able tomove on through the magic of this phrase.
And this has to be one ofradio superman's powers. He says,
never mind that now, and isinstantly able to get everyone talking about something
(34:55):
else. I mean, forget speed, invisibilit his strength, I want the
power of never mind that now.All of that to say, I don't
think Steve Mitchell is in that classat all. I think he generally handles
things pretty well. He is notalways operating undercover. Oftentimes he is operating
(35:17):
in cooperation with local governments. Hehe is visiting friendly a foreign power,
So even if he hasn't given hisidentity to authorities in advance, the fact
that he's a US agent is goingto make his job go a lot more
(35:38):
smoothly. In addition, Steve disclosesthis when he thinks that he has figured
out who he can trust, andusually not always, but usually he's right
on that count. But even ifhe's wrong about being able to trust the
person, if he's made that conclusionand it's going to be best for his
(36:02):
case to be out in the open, then he'll proceed in that manner.
So I think Steve actually makes prettyconsistently prudent decisions when it comes to disclosing
that he's an agent of the UnitedStates government, and where he's going to
(36:23):
be very careful about that is ifhe's in situation, say where a spy
is amongst some private parties and he'snot sure who to trust, or if
he's in a you know, verifyinglyneutral place like Switzerland where it's not going
to do him any good, orif he's somewhere that where they are hospital
(36:45):
to the US interest and he's onlyable to operate because he's pretending to be
a reporter. So while you canknock Steve's judgment on some points, I
don't think you can knock get toomuch on disclosing or not disclosing his identity.
I think he's got that down path. Well, now it's time to
thank our Patreon supporter of the day. Thank you to Brian, Patreon supporter
