(01:17):
it's time for this week's episode ofDangerous Assignment. The original air date May
eighteenth, nineteen fifty one, andthe title is Operation Hotfoot Dangerous Assignment.

(01:41):
Starting brand Dunlevy is Steve Mitchell.Yeah, danger is my assignment. I

(02:04):
could send to a lot of placesI can't even pronounce. They all spell
the same thing, though, trouble. But when I walk into the Commissioner's
office, I don't realize that thisassignment's going to wind up with my giving
our defensive industries. I shot inthe arm by falling into a hole in
the ground. Money commission Bruce said, you wanted to see me, Steve.

(02:30):
How long has it been since you'vehad a vacation? Exactly a month
longer than the last time I mentionedit to you. I've been thinking about
it, Steve. You've been workingpretty hard lately. Okay, take your
vacation. Well, if that's allyou called me in very Wait a minute,
what did you say? You heardme? I said, take your
vacation. You know, if Ihad time, i'd faint from shock.
But I've got too much packing todo. New York City, here I

(02:50):
come. No, the Caribbean.Caribbean, Well, yeah, I might
go down there at that. Quitea few places down there, alike,
Avanna Trinidad. Hey, look itgets pretty hot down there this time of
year. Once you get there,it'll be a lot hotter, Cidad.
It is the New Dominion Hotel.Oh just a minute, Commissioner, what's
the matter. You're sure this isa vacation? Of course, of course,

(03:10):
of course, there's the little matterof Operation Hotfoot. Okay, okay,
I might have known, So whatpreytell is operation Hotfoot? This lighting
a match? Say you're just chockfull of whimsy this morning, aren't you.
It isn't whimsy, Steve, It'ssulfur. Okay, so you're chock
full of sulfur. All joking aside, here's a setup. You know how

(03:31):
important sulfur is an intimatly the manufactureof rubber, munition, synthetic fabrics.
The list is a long one.But right now there's a serious shortage developing.
Unless we lick it, we're introuble. So what do I do?
Go looking for a sulfur mine. No, there's a new way of
mining it now, Steve, howdo you mean microbes? Oh? Look,
do you expect me to believe that? I know it sounds fantastic,

(03:51):
but it's true. There are certainmicrobes which actually do manufacture sulfur. They
transform salts and sulfate into sulfide andthen into pure sulfur. Rather how long
has that been going out? Probablyever since the world began. But it
was only a few months ago thatBritish scientists isolated a strain of sulfate reducing
bacteria from a lake in North Africa, and now two of our scientists have

(04:12):
located a similar lake on a smallisland of San Miguel in the Caribbean.
That's Operation Hotfoot. Yes, thesetwo men, Anderson and Carol radio ten
days ago that their work was finished. They had isolated the strain of microbes
which could manufactureself a rapidly enough tomake it possible on a commercial scale.
So what's the problem. The problemis where are the scientists and their test
too, You mean they're missing. They would do at the New Dominion Hotel

(04:34):
in Trinidad five days ago and theyhaven't been heard from. A Steve.
I don't have to tell you thatcertain other interests would like to get their
hands on the results of those experiments. Get down to Trinidad, find Anderson
and Carol and find microbes too.Well, that's it. You've got your
I mean your vacation. Good luck. The National Broadcasting Company is presenting Dangerous

(05:10):
Assignment, starring Brian Dunlevy in therole of Steve Mitchell, colorful two fisted
government agent. At all those placesof the world where danger and intrigue walk
hand in hand, there you willfind Steve Mitchell on another Dangerous Assignment.

(05:30):
Sure, I've got my assignment, just a little matter of flying down to
the Caribbean and locating two scientists,Carol and Anderson, together with an assortment
of test tubes containing some wonder workingbugs, Operation hot Foot, they call
it, and me with an uneasyhunch that somebody will be trying to give
me an article of the same name, King Size. It's Thursday evening when
my plane lands in Port of Spain, Trinidad, and I head for the

(05:53):
New Dominion Hotel. The lobby isdeserted except for one very trim looking girl
reading a magazine. I inquire atthe desk, but there's been no word
from Anderson and Carol, so Igo into the bar a drink. Later,
the girl comes in and slides outof the stool next to me.
Hi, all right, American American, I thought, so, I heard

(06:14):
you talking to the clerk in thelobby. M sounded good to me.
Oh been away from the States long? Too long? You No, I
just got here, Dorothy. You'lldo Steve on a vacation, Steve.
As a matter of fact, Iam. I can think of places I'd
rather spend it than Trinidad. Ilike it here. Of course, having
friends here makes a difference. Iguess friends. Yeah, I thought I

(06:36):
heard you inquiring at the desk abouta couple of them. Sorry, I
don't have any friends here. Iguess I was mistaken. Yeah, Dorothy,
I guess you were. So Dorothydidn't drift in just to make conversation.

(06:56):
Obviously, she's interested in Anderson andCarol too. The big question is
how does she fit into the deal. I make a little more small talk
and then go up to my room. The next morning, I head for
the waterfront. As I'm walking along, I get the feeling that I'm being
followed. I take a look overmy shoulder, and just then a cargo
net dumps a load of crates onthe dock. But on the other side,

(07:16):
I got a glimpse of face thatbooks a lot like Dorothy's. But
I can't be sure, and whenthe cargo net lives, there's no one
there, so I keep going. Finally I locate the section of the waterfront
I'm looking for the charter boats.Funny, hello, Skipper, that's your
boat? Sure, Skipper for charterSure? I take you where you want

(07:38):
to go, Skipper. Okay, where I want to go is a little
island of San Miguel Sure Skipper.Right, Huh, where did you say,
Sam, Miguel Skipper. I'm sorry, I just remembered my boat she
has chartered for the day. Whatsure skipper? Look, I thought you
said it was Sure Skipper. Lousymemory, I forget things, Yeah,
sure do well, thanks a lot, Skipper. I get the same stall

(08:05):
from every boat owner I talked tohim. From their reactions, I get
the idea that San Miguel is themost unpopular island in the Caribbean. Somehow
I've got to get there to tryand find out what happened to Anderson and
Carol. But it's just about onehundred miles too far to swim. I'm
about to give up. When Ispot one more boat, I head for
it, and then as I getclose, I see a very familiar figure
stretched out on a coil of ropeon deck, strumming a guitar. Very

(08:31):
happy man because he doesn't work oryou would rather live for single bun's life?
This swift than slave to Batten wifeads dangerous talk son Steve Steve Mitchell,
Hi Lord Byron, come aport, come a port. How are you,
Steve? How are you? I'mfine? What are you doing down

(08:52):
here at the waterfront, Lord Byron. Last time I saw you, you
were singing in the trade winds bar. Well, I gave myself a promotion.
Still you mean it? Well, that's one way of looking at it.
Whose boat is this? Well itused to belong to a friend of
mine, and we got to playin cards for sure. Sure it happens
every day. Oh, this isthe life, Steve. To go fish,
to go sail, to lie inthe sun. Yeah, it's nice

(09:13):
work if you can get it.But what do you do for money to
live on? Well? I don'tneed much. But when I go broke,
then I sing a few songs inthe bars and I get a little
money again. Then I go fish, I go sail, I lie in
the sun. You know, Ialways did think you were one of the
smartest guys I've ever met. Notsmart, Steve's just happy. Yeah,

(09:35):
that's what I mean, Steve. What are you doing here in Ginidad?
I'm looking for two missing scientists anda few test tubes full of valuable bugs.
What could be so valuable about bug, Steve? There's plenty bugs down
here, yeah, but not thiskind. These scientists were conducting their experiments
on sand Miguel Sand Miguel, Yeah, but I can't get anyone to take

(09:56):
me there. What's the matter withthe island anyway? Oh this sun Miguel,
he is a very bad place,Steve. What do you mean,
Well, there's a song about it. I sing it for you, Okay.
Once came a man to that prettyisle. He built a little house
to stay awhile. Then he walkedinto the jungle zone, nice and green,
and never anymore was he seen whathappened on while the ground opened up

(10:20):
and down he went. The earthclosed over him without a din. But
on some nights you'll still lear himsay from San Miguel Island, stay away.
Hey, wait a minute, Iremember now that little island you and
I wound up. And the lasttime I was down in this neck otherwids
lousy with Quicksand is that San Miguelhum shore, Steve, Oh fine,

(10:41):
a great place to go wandering aroundthe other bottom is they're superstitious about San
Miguel, Steve. They think there'sa curse on the place, And lately
some move sailed closed would have seenstrange lights at night. Oh Lord Byron,
you're not superstitious, are you me? Of course, not, Steve.
Then you'll take me to send Miguel. Well, what's the matter?

(11:01):
You said you weren't superstitious for sure, but all night, Steve, I
take you to San Miguel. Iguess lady San Miguel. Ahead, Steve.

(11:24):
Yeah, I'll sign a life anywhere. Oh is it? I know?
Is a bad place? A headfor that old landing over there,
that's sure, Steve. You knowIv Anderson and Carol are still on the
island. I should think their boterbe tied up there. Well, maybe
it's on the other side of theisland. Better cut your engines side.

(11:45):
Hey, this pear is half rottedaway. Okay, I've got the bow
line, Lord Biden, need theyway Steve? Okay, hey, you
take that guitar everywhere you're Steve, boy. Look at all that under brush.
Yes, it's a very dense jungle. Here's the path. Funny,

(12:09):
hold of a minute, what's thematter, Steve? Listen? Well,
Lord Biden doesn't heed anything. That'sthe point. No birds, no animals,
nothing. It's it's too quiet. It's a strange place. On me
again. Oh, put on anew record, will you. Okay,
let's go. There's that is that? It hot very close to here.

(12:33):
Hey, it's a jungle bird.Sounds like an under nourished vulture. Here's
the hot steep. Yeah, huh. Looks like somebody's been around here all
right. The brush has been cutdown a little. Come on, let's
go inside. There's nobody here.Somebody's been here though. They've probably been

(12:54):
using this as a lab or livingquarters, maybe both. Listen. Yeah,
came from on top of the roof. Sounds like this big stick on
the fly. Can use it asa club. Yeah, come on outside.
Who could be up this? Steve? A bad man? Maybe?
Huh? Hold it, here's yourbad man, Lord Byron, a king's

(13:16):
size lizard. Oh yes, Steve, lad Byron have much more fun fish
and sail and lie in the sun, not to poke around the bad place.
Yeah, I know, I've seenislands I'd rather be unto believe me.
But I've got to find out whathappened to Anderson and Carol. So
it looks like we've got a littleexploring to do. Let's get started.

(13:45):
You know, I'm almost willing tolay odds we've got this island all to
ourselves, Lord Byron. Sure,Steve, we're almost to the other side.
Of the island and we've seen nothing. It still seems too quiet to
me, though, I've had afeeling that we're being watched on either side
of this trail of person get hidein there and we'd never spot him.
Nasty. What do you mean?Well? Watch you see I pick up

(14:07):
this large stone and touch it overthere? Hey, a hunk six feet
square caved in shust quicksand on bothsides of this trail. Oh fine,
maybe we Hey what is it?Look back the way we came smoke.
Yeah, from the direction of thatold huck. Looks like, come on,

(14:39):
we ought to be just about there. Shust it out on this vended
that trail and hold it. Oh, brother burned to the ground on leash
has lift. At least we knowwe're not alone on the island anyway.
But who would bum this place down? And whoai? Wait a minute,
somebody's heading this way from the beach. Get down and that club ready?

(15:05):
Okay? Stand Hey the girl Imet in the bar and trim the dads,
Steve, Is this the kind ofreception you give everybody pouncing at me
out of the brush? What areyou doing here? Dorothy? Who was
out cruising around in my boat, and I saw the smoke, so I
came here to investigate. Oh happento be cruising near this island. I

(15:26):
was just on a little pleasure cruise, sort of a long way to come
for a pleasure cruise. Look,Steve, what's with the third degree?
You overheard me inquiring about two menat the hotel lobby and Anderson and Carol.
So right away you get very curiousabout me. What's your angle in
this deal? Anyway? I don'thave any angle. Well, it just
happens. I met Anderson and Carrolonce, so naturally I was interested when

(15:48):
I heard you asking about them. Now, will that be all the questions?
Sir? May I leave, JerryDorothy? That'll be all for now,
Ord Byron, and I followed Dorothyto the beach, and watch your
boat head away from the island.I get that funny feeling again, like
I'm being watched. We go backto the smoking ruins of the hut again.

(16:11):
Lord Byron is leading the way,and suddenly he stops and grabs my
arm. What's the matter. Look, here's another trail which has been cut
through the underbrush. Yeah, prettynew too, by the look of it.
Let's see where it leaves. Nowstay right behind me, Steve.
I will don't worry. I've gotno desire to get bogged down in any
of that. Quick fan, SteveHey, the ground's caving under a scrub

(16:33):
Me too late. I'm going withyou. He three times mean good Times.

(17:30):
and Brian Dunlevy is Steve Mitchell,Oh, Stephen Nord Biden made a big
mistake when they decided this trail totake. They fell right into a great
big pit. Now they can't getout, so here they sit. Look,

(17:52):
things are bad enough without you makinga musical comedy out of it.
Too bad that guitarriers didn't get brokenin the fall. Well, it could
be worse, Steve. When westarted falling, I thought we were in
quick sense. But he's a goodjungle trump this big peak. What do
you want to do? Sandy Webermade it the letter of commendation? Who
did make it? No? Iknow? I what is it? Sounds
like somebody walking up there? Yeah, coming forward the pit? So I

(18:18):
caught you at last. Hey,I recognize your face. I've got a
picture of you in my pocket.Your Carol, one of the scientists.
Of course. Why did you burndown the levers? Why he told you
to do it? Well, whatyou're talking about? It came down here
to find out what had happened toyou and your partner Anderson. Don't lie
to me. You and Anderson arein this scheme together? What scheme?
Wait a minute, Carol, Ithink you'd better take a look at these

(18:41):
credentials of mine. I'll toss himup to you here, cat credentials.
That's a general idea. Now,how about getting us out of this charming
little pitfall of yours? Yes,yes, of course, I'll get it
wrong. He darts away. Twominutes later, he's back with a rope.

(19:03):
Lord Byron and I climb out, dust ourselves off, capful of the
guitar. Carol was falling all overhim self, trying to apologize. I
feel so terrible about this, misterMitchell. It's just that I've been under
such a terrible strain. What's adeal, Carol? Anderson and I succeeded
in isolating a rare strain of sulfatereducing bacteria from a swamp in the center

(19:26):
of the island. The day wewere scheduled to leave here, he suddenly
tried to talk me into reporting theexperiment of failure. What. Yes,
he told me there were other interestswho would pay us a great deal of
money for the data we'd compiled inthe test tubes of micro I see that
night, I hid the test tubesin Dayton. Then I ran into the
interior of the island. Since then, Anderson and I've been playing a sort

(19:49):
of nightmarish game of hide and seek. Yes, he's been trying to find
me so he could kill me.What happened to your boat? He's hitting
it somewhere. I have I hadmuch chance to look for it because I've
had to stay under cover. You'rethe one who dug this pit. Then,
yes, mister Mitchell, you haveto get me off this island before
Henderson's confederates arrived. Yeah, we'llgo on Lord Byron's boat. It's tied

(20:11):
up the landing. All right,I'll lead the way. Please, let's
hurry. Okay, go ahead,Lord Byron, I'll bring up in the
rim. It's funny. Well see, he's a stain on my hand,
staying, yeah, what is it? Lord Byron? Don't know. Maybe
when I grabbed the vines as wefall steep. Yeah, well, come
on, let's get to the boat. We didn't make it to the beach

(20:41):
any too soon, Mitchell. It'llbe dark in half an hour. I
don't want to spend another night onthis island. Lord Biden feels very likewise.
Well, where's your boat right overthere at the left. Hey,
it's gone. Huh it sure is. Henderson must have made away with it.
Mitchell. We've trapped. We can'tget off the island. He's got

(21:03):
us. Get down, Carol,Lord Byron, huh land the medal,
get down. You're okay, Yes, it's so Steve. You didn't tell
me he had a gun. Thatmakes it bad, of course, Like
I tell you, he has itas his mercy. What'll we do,
Mitchell? That's a good question,Carol. We work our way back into

(21:26):
the underbrush near the pet nightfalls whileI'm trying to figure out my next move.
Finally I make up my mind, and Lord Byron agrees with me.
Shure, Steve is the only thingto do walk along the beach and try
to find the boat. I don'tknow. Sounds pretty dangerous to me,
Carol, orre three to one,two to one? What do you mean?
Do you think I'm gonna go wanderingalong pet beach in bright moonlight making

(21:49):
a perfect target of myself? Weare very much mistaken. Okay, okay,
you'll wait for us here then,Carol, Come on, Lord Byron,
Sure, Steve, let's go overto the pitch for a moment.
What for Lord Bidron would feel muchbetter with a weapon? What are you
talking about? The piece of woodI found in the hut? Oh?
Yeah, war club? Okay, where is it? Light around here?

(22:11):
Somewhere when we fell into the pit, it flew out of my hand.
Well, in this moonlight, weshould be able to spot it at it's
around here anyway, But that lookslike it over there. Let's say I'll
flip on my lighter. Oh thisthing I should carry matches. Yeah,
that's it, all right, Well, now you're equipped for what's the matter,

(22:33):
Steve. Hey, that's where youget the stain on your hands,
Lord Byron, from that hunk ofwood. Look, yes, is a
stain on the wood tour. Ididn't notice it unless I'm a mistaken.
That looks like a blood stain.Blood, But Steve, I didn't hit
anything with it. No, that'sthe point. Come on, so we're
going back to a Carlyss hiding. That's right. Well, you think he's

(22:55):
in danger. I think I've beena great a chump. I just hope
I'm not too late, Steve.Carol is not here. He sure isn't.
Wait. Listen, somebody walking,Yeah, going away from us,
by the sound of it, Steve. That new trail which is cut through
the brush. Yeah, that mustbe at command. We'll follow it.
Keep quiet. We must be almostto the other side of the island.

(23:26):
Steel. Yeah, I still don'tunderstand. Wait, Yeah, there's the
beach. To take a look. It's very bright moonlight, Steve. They're
on the beach. Yeah, it'sCarol. And look down the beach.
About one hundred yards, two boatstied up in a little cove. Wait,
wait, waitch, what about themiss my boat? Yeah? Yeah,

(23:49):
you remember what Carol told us thathe'd run away before Anderson could touch
him. He also said he hadand Anderson were alone on the island.
So when I saw the blood stainon that club, and remember but you'd
picked it up in the lab beforeit burned, I realized Carol was lying.
I shore, Steve, there musthave been a fight of some kind.
Yeah, so I forget if Carollied about that, maybe lied about
a few other things too. Thenit was cattle who burned on the hut.

(24:14):
He was probably trying to hide theevidence of the struggle. He couldn't
know you'd already picked up that club. Hey, look a plane approaching the
island, small seaplane. Carol issignaling with his flashlight, and the plane's
answering he must be going to landout there in the water, Steve,
did are many things I don't understand? And not alone there? Wait,
Carol's heading up the beach. Comeon, I bet a hunch. We

(24:36):
don't have much time. We followCarol, keeping out of his side up
the beach away he heads inland Thenwe spot a tent and a clearing.
Carol goes in and Lord Byron andI. He's up close enough to sea.
Inside there are four men, countingCarol. One of'em's tied up.

(24:56):
Then I recognize him from a pictureof of him. It's Anderson,
the other scientists. Steve. Hisface is not pretty, it's all beat
up. It looks like they've beenworking him over. That's probably where those
bloodstains on the club came from. But who are those other men? Probably
Carol Stooges. Well, a deal'sadding up fast. Just reverse everything Carol

(25:18):
told us. You mean Carol isa bad mark. Yeah, Anderson must
have hidden those test tubes. Caroland the Stooges have probably been trying to
make him tell we're congratulations, Steve. What Dorothy, she has a gun?
Relaxed Steve. I'm happy to hearwe're both on the same side.
Oh look, just where did youfit into this deal? Dorothy? I'm
Jim Anderson's fianceety. You see,Jim wrote me and hinted he didn't trust

(25:41):
Carol. Then when he didn't showup in Trinidad, well I got worried.
At first, I thought you wereworking with Carol. Steve. Look,
they getting Anderson to his feet here. They're probably going to fly him
off the island. That means justone thing. He hasn't talked yet,
Steve. We've got to rescue him. Give me a gun, Dorothy.
It isn't loaded, Steve. Why. I know it's silly. I'm afraid

(26:03):
of guns, but I thought thisway, maybe I could scare somebody if
I had to. Oh great,wait a minute, I think I've got
an idea, Dorothy. Did yousee those boats on the beach. Yes,
I hid mine near them. Okay, go get in you're a boat
and tow him around to the otherside of the island. All right,
but what about you. We'll meetyou around there in about fifteen minutes.
I hope Dorothy heads for the boats. Lord Byron and I go back to

(26:32):
the beach. The plane taxis toa half rotted away boat landing, and
the pilot gets out. He startswalking along the landing. I let him
get right up to me, andthen I dive for him. Don't let
him call out, Steep. Hecan't call out if he can't breathe Potty
Steep Candle and his men. Ifstepped out onto the beach. I can
see them in the moonlight. Okay, a little more pressuring there here,
help me drag him into the bushes. What no, ok at that plane

(27:00):
and keep it quiet or a Caroland his boys now about the hundred yards
away? See them? Yeah? You think they saw us? And I
don't think so. Here's the plane. Get in? What I said,
get in? You mean you don'tmerry up? Steve? What are you
doing getting this buck at a boatstarted? We're not going to fly either

(27:22):
you're wrong or dead. But stee, you know how I took a correspondence
course and at once. Oh okay, here they come. They'll probably shave
Anderson in the first new haul himaboard. Now to likewise, to Carol,
now you got a d let youup in. What's the matter you
dead? No? No, giveme a hand with Anderson, Carol,
Mitchell, Lord Byron Graham got baby. Come aboard, Carol. He then

(27:48):
help Mitchell let go me? Sure? Yeah, very neat you okay,
Henderson sure feel a lot better withthese brokes of those. Lord Byron can
work on that. Steve. Kenneth'smen are shooting at us from the landing.
Okay, okay, we'll be offthe water in a second. Now,
let's see the book said bull backon this kitchen. Well, what

(28:15):
do you know it worked? Youact like you've done this a few hundred
times, Steve, This Scottish bundancecosts you a took pretty good right Where
did you take it? Oh?In the Navy Air Force for about four
years. Oh, Lord Biden feelsfive years younger, though same ages before
you scared me. You've got thosetests doped hidden in a safe place,

(28:36):
and as at I thought I did. No, I'm not so sure.
What do you mean now? Ihad them hidden in our boat. But
if we're leaving it back there withCaroline, relax, we're not Garthy's stilling
the boats around to the other sideof the island. We'll meet her there.
That's good. I guess Carol's stoogeswon't be able to get off the
island, not without a boat. No, they'll keep all right into lacking.
The rings haven't picked up. Well, it looks like everything worked out.

(28:57):
Okay, Lord Byron, I thinkthat Paul's first all. I'll feel
like sin when I reached the groundagain. Okay, I'll do the honors
then, Oh, Carol and Andersonwent looking for bugs and Carols hold out
to a big bunch of mouth. But then he got followed up down near
the equator. Now, Stephen LordByron, bring back the Mike pro peters

(29:19):
Steve as a calypso singer. Yeah, she had a very good pilot.
H It's just jealous. Dangerous assignmentstarring Brian Dunlevy as Steve Mitchell, with

her Butterfield as the Commissioner, iswritten by Bob Rip and Adrian Gendo,
with music by Robert Ambruster, asproduced and directed by Bill Carr others in
the cast where Paul Freeze heard Ellis, Jane Layton and John Diamond three times

(30:15):
mean good Times on NBC Welcome back. First of all, poor Steve having
his vacation location dictated to him bythe commissioner and turned into a working vacation.

(30:41):
Although hopefully it's enough time before hegets back that he can actually enjoy
himself a little bit. I haveto say that the most puzzling decision I've
heard in a long time has tobe the villain deciding to let Steve and

(31:02):
Lord Byron out of the pit,Like, why did he do that?
He had them at his mercy, and even if he wasn't inclined to do
anything violent to them, why letthem run around the island? So a
puzzling decision, but Lord Byron's back, which I was thankful for. Obviously,

(31:22):
he was a pretty lockable character becausewe don't have a lot of recurring
characters running around this series. Althoughat this point it does feel like some
of the beats from previous stories arejust being repeated, such as Steve singing
a Calypso song. I'm not certainif we're going to get to hear more
appearances or if the writer will beable to come up with any more ideas

(31:47):
for Lord Byron episodes. It alsodoes give me the idea that maybe I
should do a Steve Mitchell Sings Calypsocompilation for YouTube with all of Brian donal
of these classic Calypso performances. We'llsee if I get time for that.
That could be fun. At anyright, it's time to thank our Patreon

course next Thursday we'll be bringing youpreviously uncirculated episodes of Mister Chameleon. And
then next Saturday we'll be bringing youdrag Nat. But join us back here
tomorrow for the final episode of FollowVans, where sit down, Please Vans,

(33:15):
sit down and be prepared for themost ridiculous situation you ever heard.
Well, Markholm, that takes ina lot of territory. As a private
investigator, you've encountered a lot ofweird murders. I know as a district
attorney, so have I. Iam well aware of that. What's so
completely fantastic about this one? Letme give you a rundown on it,
all right. First of all, you've heard of John Williams, bracket leader
gunman shot dead last night. Yes, I read about it on the way

(33:37):
down here. You only read partof it. Believe me. Williams had
a three way deal with two otheroperators, Sam Foster and Whitey Morrow.
They had a working arrangement, butas I understand it, they split last
month. Nothing too fantastic about thesituation yet, Markholm. Wait, it's
reasonable to believe, as we do, that either Sam Foster or a Whitey
Morrow killed Williams. The motive isobvious, Markham, all right, all

(33:57):
right, I just wanted to bringyou up to date on the background.
Williams lived in a house in thecountry. Yes, you know how it
rained all day yesterday? Certainly Iknow. I just had my car washed.
Always rains immediately afterwards. I havethe same thing happened when I wear
a suit. It's just been dressed. Let's get back to Williams. His
house in the country was surrounded completelysurrounded, mind you, by a sea
of mud. Williams was shot insidethe house there was no way for the

(34:21):
killer to get in except by goingthrough the mud, and there were no
footprints. Vance how did I know? Yes, that would be fantastic,
and you assured me this case wasyes, Yes, How do you know
the killer didn't arrive and leave beforethe rain? Your guessing was good,
advanced, but not complete. Williamshad a housekeeper. She was home when
the shop had killed him was fire. She came downstairs but sawn over me

(34:42):
but on the yard lights and immediatelynoticed no footprints and there were no convenient
trees. If that's what you're thinking, she might have killed Williams, or
she might be lying. I doubtit, no Vans, She is no
our killer. Whoever it is,Sam Foster or Whiteymorrow has figured out a
murder that we can't possibly tie tohim because there isn't a way in the
world. It could help your withus then, in the meantime, do
