for this week's episode of Dangerous Assignment. The original airdate mark seventeenth, nineteen
(01:37):
fifty one and the title is Recovera Hospital Chart. Dangerous Assignments starring Brian
don Levy as Steve Mitchell. Yeah, danger is my assignment. I get
(02:17):
sent to a lot of places Ican't even pronounce. They all spell the
same thing, though, trouble. But when I walk into the Commissioner's office,
I don't realize this assignment's gonna windup with me playing the little kid's
game of King of the Mountain. The only difference is in this game I'm
playing, whoever loses gets killed.Morning girl said you had an assignment for
(02:44):
me? I do see you.Well, what's the deal? This time?
You'll be looking for a piece ofpaper that's vital to us right now?
Oh, somebody's stealing? What isit a secret treaty or something like
that. No, it's a hospitaltemperature chot. Hey. You know,
for a minute I thought you andI said, that's what I did.
Say, a hospital temperature chot anda complete set of medical record. Now,
look, Commissioner, fun is funis? There's no joke? Steve?
(03:05):
You know I think you're a seriousYou bet I am. Well,
in that case, you better startat the beginning. Whose medical records are
they and why are they so important? Steve? See this map of Eastern
Europe this country. Yeah, whatabout it? Sometime has been torn apart
politically during the less four years.A popular leader has arisen, who's been
able to do the one thing nobodyelse has before him the United Country under
a democratic form of government. You'retalking about Carl Zander. That's right.
(03:29):
You have any idea where Zander isright now? Why seems to me I
read that he was taking a vacationsomewhere in the Austrian Alps. Steve Carl
Zander is a patient at the WhittingtonClinic right here in the United States.
Why, Yes, it's been avery closely guarded secret, or rather it
was up until a few days ago. Wait a minute, you said there
were some medical records stolen? Wherethey zand or his records? Yes,
(03:50):
how they found out Xander was inthe clinic, we don't know, but
they did and hide a man tosteal the record. We know the man's
name when we've got a description ofit. But who didn't want to steal
medical records? Steve Carl Xander's avery sick man. The specialist at the
clinic are all Agreedio pulled through. But right now you'd never be able to
tell that by looking at his medicalrecord. I think I'm beginning to get
(04:11):
it. Commissioner, isn't there anelection coming up in a couple of weeks
in Zandoy's country? That's right,Steve, Imagine what would happen if a
highly organized minority in that country plasteredcopies of those medical reports all over the
front page. They could make itlook because if Xander was dying, that
would cause the defeat of Zanda's partyand three years of building toward democracy would
go down the Drake. I seethat makes those medical records pretty hot.
(04:34):
Commissioner Xanders asked for our cooperation,Steve, I told him we do everything
we possibly can. You say,you know who sliped the records from the
clinic? Yes, man named Duvac. He posed as a grocery truck drive
and he gain admittance to the clinic. Any idea where Duvac is now?
I think he's on the ship namedthe Southern Empress, on route to the
Portuguese colony of Macallan, a Chinacoast, sort of taking a round about
(04:56):
way, isn't it. Yes,And we think it's to cover his tracks.
Well, can't you radio this skipperof the ship of this thing has
to be kept absolutely quiet, Steve. So I'm elected to fly over to
McCall and meet the boat. Yes, and your plane leaves in one hour.
You'll just barely make it to McCallbefore the boat closed. And he
contacts over there who can help meone a Lieutenant Bracker of the police.
Steve, get over to McCaw,work with Brock, I intercept Duvac and
(05:17):
above all get those records back.Well, that's it, You've got your
assignment. Wood Luck. The NationalBroadcasting Company is presenting Dangerous Assignment, starring
(05:42):
Brian Dunlevy as Steve Mitchell, colorfultwo fisted government agents in all those places
of the world where danger and intriguewalk hand in hand. There you will
find Steve Mitchell on another dangerous assignment. Well, I've chased a lot of
strange things in my time, butnever a set of medical records. On
(06:04):
the surface, that sounds like asense, but I've done an uneasy feeling
that before the deal's over, somebodywill be making out a set of medical
records on me. It's Monday eveningwhen my plane lands in Macau. I
check with police Lieutenant Braga and thetwo of us had the waterfront. We
get there just in time to seethe Southern Empress docking. We go aboard
(06:25):
and find out from the person thatDuva's cabin is two three B and your
reach. You have a description ofthese Manuva, Yes, Lieutenant Braga,
I've got a picture of him righthere in mabacket. I might observe Senor
that the simplicity of this assignment makesit a refreshing change from the ordinary run
of things for me here in Macau. Oh, yeah, we know who
(06:47):
are many is. We have adescription of him, We know his stateroom
number, so we arrest him andrecover the papers you see, and it
is all over. Hell, Ihope you're right here. We are two
three by the door is a jar, Michard. Yeah, man lying on
the floor. Yeah, come on? Is she Jane? No? Unconscious?
(07:12):
Who is she? Searched me?He isn't Duvac. That's essential,
Come on, buster, snap outof it, Braga. Hoback getting that
pitcher of water over there, andvery well strange too that he should be
lying there in his own door shirt. Yeah, looks like the deal isn't
going to be quite as easy aswe figured. Braga here you are missed.
Thank ye, looks like the waterwas what you needed. Buster,
(07:34):
Come on now, snap out ofit. Whatever, that's what we'd like
to know. Who are you onthe steward? I was calling here by
mister Duvach to get his lug asyou. I opened the door so last
time. Remember what a minute? Was my wife cold? My cab ar.
(07:54):
Yeah, it looks like Duvac figuredhe'd have a better chance of getting
ashore unnoticed if he dressed as asteward. Come. I commenced on the
pier. We would check with him. But none of Brocker's men remember seeing
a man in the steward's uniform comeashore. Of course he could have slipped
by in the dark. Brock ordersthe whole area patrol. But all of
(08:16):
a sudden, I get a differenthunch. If Duvak is this smart,
and maybe he's even smarter, Igo back aboard the southern end. Listen,
look up the captain who's still upon the bridge. I am afraid
I don't understand. If this manDuvak has already slipped ashore in a steward's
uniform, why maybe he has captain. But on the other hand, maybe
that's what he wants us to think. He's done. I see where you
(08:37):
have my permission to search the ship. Of course, it'll take quite a
while. There's a lot of placeswhere a man could hide, you know.
That's why I like to stay uphere on the bridge. What do
you mean, Well, from hereI can watch the side of the ship.
Oh you figure that. Wait aminute, what is it? Seems
to me I just saw something comeout of one of those portholes down there.
Ah, rather hard to see inthe dark. I want me to
(08:58):
turn on the searchlight. No,not yet it yes, I see it
now. It's a rope dangling fromthe porthole, and somebody's starting to climb
down it. Okay, Captain, hit that search light right here. He
goes, climbing down the rope tothe water. You're back, Hold it,
man, surely let go of therope. Drop to the water.
Ye what are you doing? I'mgoing after him, Captain, Keep that
light on him. I dive fora spot a few feet away from do
(09:24):
back. The water hits me likea hand across the face. When I
come up, go back to swimmingfor the center of the channel. I
take off after him, starts training. Have a dozen more strokes and I've
got him blood glove with me.Come on, go back, we're going
back to the ship. Yeah, you want to play rough, i'llo like
you. I checked my head aroundjust from time to see a putboat carrying
(09:48):
down. I try to get Tubacout of the way, but it's true.
Later, something awful heavy hits mea glance and bow on the side
of the head, and all ofa sudden, I've heaven. What do
you think kept him? I don'tknow. Lieutenant Braggerud didn't hit him square,
(10:09):
sort of a glancing blow. Maybe. Hey, it sounds like he's
starting to come out of it,Mitchell. Mitchell, Lieutenant Braga and the
captain. Hey, look where amI last? I remember? I was
in the water watching a tug boatclimbed my frame here back and board ship,
my jew. We fished you outjust before he went on here for
(10:31):
the third time. Well thanks forthe lift. Hey, what about Duvac.
Dubac was not a fortune at yourjew, Mitchell. They tug boat
did him squarely. He was killed. Did you recover the body? See
what the papers you were after themedical reports? They were not on the
body. What are you sure aboutthat. I'm quite sure we searched the
corpse totally. But that doesn't addup. Look, we know that Duvac
(10:52):
had those papers and was trying toget them ashore. He slugged the stewart
and s wiped his uniform to makeit look like he was going ashore that
way, and then he tried toleave the ship later by means of the
rope down decide all this, weknow, Mitchell. But if fact remains
those papers were not on him, well, I guess that leaves us two
possibilities. Braga, what I Eitherthose papers are still in Dubak state roomor
(11:13):
somebody took them ashore for him.We in that case, Mitchell, Yeah,
in that case, we're falling behindfast. Let's go to work on
the first possibility that the papers arestill in Dubak stateroom. Yeah, we'll
give the place at first. Captain, I wonder if you could have that
stewart meet us in the stateroom.Sure he might be able to give us
a line on whom Duvak was runningaround with a board ship, somebody who
might be carrying the mail for him. Pierce. We may now throw out
(11:46):
that first possibility mature. Yeah,we've gone over the stateroom like a vacuum
cleaner, but we sure haven't turnedup those papers. Come in, Captain
said you wanted to see? Yeah, I do, Stewart, Look,
do you happen to know if thedead man Duvac was particularly friendly with any
of the passengers. Oh, I'mafraid I can't help you there. I
don't what is it? Wait aminute, I just remembered the woman quot
(12:11):
woman well, an American, Ibelieve, what's her name is? Miss
barlow? I think who's miss Barlowone of the passages. I remember seeing
mister Dovac with a quite frequently thelast few days. Happen to know if
she smokes? Why? Yes,yes she does. Why we found a
cigarette butt with lipstick in the ashtray? Oh, I see you think this
miss Barlowe is the person you're lookingfor. I don't know. Well,
thanks, Stewart. Looks like we'vegot company. Oh I'm sorry I have
(12:37):
made a mistake. Oh for youby my name is Kissler. But I
do not see that that concerns you. Maybe it dies? Are you looking
for something or someone? Why?Is a matter effect of us? A
friend of mine? But it isobvious I have the wrong stateroom. I
apologize. I wonder if he didhave the wrong stateroom or not so the
(12:58):
way he happens to be a ratheron seabery character. Mitchell, Oh you
know him? Gain she open? It's about here, mccaull. That might
be a good idea to keep aneye on him, and she would not
surprise me to find that he wasin vinerable. He may not have anything
to do with it, but we'repretty short. That leads right now,
so we've got to follow up anythingthat looks even possible. I agree,
I would have his body watched good. In the meantime, I'll check with
(13:20):
this miss Barlow. I believe she'salready left the ship, mister Mitchell,
Oh, well, in that case, I'll try to locate her ashore see
if I can find out just howgood a friend of Duvac she would.
I check with a pressure and learnedthat Miss Barlow left the ship twenty minutes
ago. So I go ashore onthe dock, I see a line of
(13:41):
rickshaw boys waiting for passengers. Igo over to one of them. When
he sees me coming, his facelights up like a pinball. Game.
Oh yeah, oh yeah, whyyou'll try Oh yeah, in a minute,
maybe, Oh yeah, right now, I'd like a little information,
lit only information. Oh yes, your mother frightened by a parrot or something.
Look tell me, did you seea woman come off that ship about
(14:03):
twenty minutes ago? Oh yes,oh yeah, where'd you go? Oh
yes, fine, rickshall? You'lltry check your strange places with fine away
names. Oh yeah, you know, I can see this is not exactly
a meeting of the mind beating ofmy Oh yeah, all right, all
right now look buster name? Huh, don't tell me your name is Buster?
(14:24):
No name is now? Look?Oh fine, okay, now look
now look I mean now, ohyou'll call me twice, but there is
only one of me. What I'mtrying to say it Just take me into
town, will you. I checkall the hotels and my cow and find
out that miss Barlow registered at theSplendida. I charge over there and my
(14:48):
trusty rickshaw and learned that she's inthe bar. So I go in and
slide on the stool next door.Well, now isn't that one. Look,
maybe I better go out and comein again. Oh no, it's
really I was just wondering what inthe world i'd ever do for strange man
came into the bard sat right down, because I mean and long you came
in. You know, I didn'teven battle Lowerye. Well, now that's
(15:09):
real brave of you, ma'am.And not even a quiver out of your
martini, is it? Oh?Now you're poking fun at mister Mitchell.
Steve Mitchell one Susan bollow taking avacation. Susan taking a vacation, I
should say, not, Steve.I'm starting a whole new career. That's
just how bold I am. Ohwhat kind of a career are you starting.
I'm gonna travel all around the wholewide world and right down just about
(15:33):
every the little thing I see.See, Well, it sounds like a
pretty big order. So you're gonnabe a writer? Huh? You know
if I am? You see,Steve, I'm a school teacher for New
England, and I decided one daythat I who, just a minute,
where did you say you came fromNew England? That's what I thought you
said for southern part of course.Oh of course. And now I'm just
start looking for clusty I see,did you find any of it on the
(15:56):
boat? Well, you're never inthe ware. I believe it, but
I found not. But how aboutinteresting characters you meet? Any of them?
I shouldn't have dre Well I nameDuvach, for instance. I don't
remember the name in particular, orbecause I met so many people on board,
I heard that you and Duvach werepretty friendly. And I miss the
Mitchell where I come from southern NewEngland. That is gentlemen takes the lady's
(16:19):
word for things, and come tothink about it, I don't hanker to
answer any more your nosy old questions. I'm asking you right now to quick
test in me, mister Mitchell, help now, I'll sure I'll report you,
report me. So never you mindwhom I just report you. You
know, miss corn Pony, thatyou're sure enough on the level or that's
a powerful good act you're putting on, and sooner or later, I'm sure
(16:41):
enough gonna find out which three timesbeing good times. On NBC, there's
a venture in the air. Tomorrowevening is VC brings you another authentic story
of the Texas Rangers. Joel mccraistars is a modern day agent of the
(17:04):
law. Times of Change and theRangers ride automobiles instead of caiuses. But
there is still the same hard bittengroup riding down from the plains of Texas,
and also tomorrow galloping down from theplains of Hollywood will be the hilarious
Harris's Bring You Another Chaotic, confusingand delightful domestic saga and the Phil Harris
Alice Face show. You are listeningto Dangerous Assignments starring Brian don Levy as
(17:33):
Steve Mitchell. Well along about now, I figure it's time to get back
with Lieuten and Braga. I findhim in the bar owned by Kessler,
the man who stuck his nose intoDevak's stateroom. Did you find me,
Sparalo Mitscher? Yeah, I sureit did. Wait, that's what I'd
like to know. What you mean? She's so phony? She must be
(17:56):
legit phonyg sounds confusing. Well,if it does, it's because I am
you found out anything about this Kesseler. No, and he doesn't seem to
be hitting his body at the moment. Well, it's possible, of course,
the Kettler doesn't have anything to dowith the deal. He could have
been telling us the truth. Maybehe really was looking for a friend and
just wandered in the Duvax stateroom bymistake, Niche. The possibility, of
(18:18):
course, has occurred to me too. You know, I'm beginning to think
that nothing about this deal makes sense, Braga. Look, Duvax swipes some
pretty important medical records back in theStates and takes off with him. He
comes to Macau aboard the Southern imprisonthen tries to make us think he sneaked
ashore in the steward's uniform, Butactually he attemps to escape from the ship
by means of the role. Sure, and up to there at all figures.
(18:40):
But when you've fished his body outof the drink, the papers weren't
on him, and they weren't inthe stateroom either. Perhaps he had already
passed him to a confederate. Yeah, that's about the only possibility left,
And this character Kessler would qualify asa good suspect except for one thing.
You mean, if Duvek had somehowpassed the papers to him, why did
he come to Dubak's room. Yeah, all of which brings us back to
(19:02):
Susan Barlow again. You should notnever forget a ninety Hello, Susan,
have a seat. Oh thank you. This is Lieutenant Braga. I am
Onstone's nice Gafrey drink. Susan,Oh, no thanks, I can only
stay a minute. I will haveto sigt. I want one of mine
and no thanks, I got minenot here. I'm a band, you
know. I think I'll try oneof yours if I may. Why should?
(19:27):
Yeah, Amathy, now I gota match broke here Summaries. Yeah.
Thanks. IM sort of surprised tosee you again, Susan. The
last time, as I remember, you were all set to report me to
the nearest boy Scott. Well,as a matter of fact, that's why
I look you up. Steve,I kind of want to apologize with me
(19:48):
and so tasty. Oh I thoughtmaybe you were going to apologize for not
telling me the truth. What inthe world do you mean you said you
didn't know? Do back very well? When I lucky, Steve. If
you're gonna stop at again, I'mjust gonna pick up and leave you.
The steward aboard the ship told usthat you want to do backward together quite
a lot, Susan. He wasthat nosy Parker. Well how about it?
Oh all right, Steve, Yes, I did tell you a little
(20:12):
feel about why well, mainly becausemy recollection of mister Duvak is not a
very pleasant one. He represented himselfto me as a gentleman. He said
he could help me improve my writing. He should not have had strange ideas
about what improves a girl's writing.I see. Look. Did you ever
hear him mention anything about any importantpapers? He was carrying my important papers?
(20:36):
I would know anything at all aboutthat, miss Bottle. Did this
Duvac ever speak of a man namedKessler, the Boston who wants his body?
No? I don't believe I rememberthe name. We had better be
getting back to my hotel, Steve. I'm glad to stop by. Susan.
We friends again. We sure notfar fan? See me? Then
here you're most unusual woman, Mitchell. Yeah, you figure out I can't.
(21:03):
She patched those baby blue eyes andsaid she wouldn't know anything about any
secret papers or a man named Kessler. She appears to be telling the truth.
Yeah, you're exactly right. Sheappears to be. If she really
is. That leaves us with justone lead Kessler. Incidentally, where is
he? Man? She does seemstrange that the owner of a bar would
remain away from it for so longa time. I wonder if he could
have skipped down with those papers. But how could he have gotten him in
(21:25):
the force place. I don't know, but I think we'd better find out
where he lives and drop in onhim. What did you say? The
number of Kessler's apartment was well tellingnine according to that party in nine,
that's just a couple more doors downthe hall, Mitchell if Kel, Hey,
(21:48):
that sounded as if it came fromKessler's room. Come on, Kessure
Locke, come on, get backhere looking, and then we have to
break down the door. If anyoneokay, let's go, didn't watch it,
and then we try it again.Yeah, ready, yeah, bitchar
look on the floor. Yeah,Kessler, there are scissors between his shoulder
(22:15):
blades. But where could the killerhave wait? The window with his open
Yeah, see anything? There's anotherrunning along the side of the building,
but it's too dark to see anything. Yeah, the killer could drop out
of side with no trouble at all. Chard If Keshla was stabbed to death
with a pair of scissors, scissorsare a woman's weapon, precisely what I
was thinking. If Kessler did havethose papers, he surely doesn't happen.
Now, only things in his pocketsare a match book and some loose chains.
(22:38):
Let's take a look around the room, brog up very well. You
think Keshler had the papers and thekiller took him? I don't know.
It doesn't quite boil lou tannan. How could Kestler have gotten the papers?
And if he did have them, why did they show up at du Vack
State? And I do not knowall this? Yeah, dis take a
look at this ashtray, two cigarettebuns with ripstick on him. Yeah,
(22:59):
and they're the same brand. SusanBarlow smoke? Oh you telephoned hotel?
Hello, is miss Susan Barlow there? Why? How long ago? Thanks?
She's out there, checked out ahalf an hour ago? Michure,
she is the killer? Looks liketotal fits. Remember she left Kessler's bar
before we did. That was almostan hour ago. That would give her
(23:22):
time to check out of her hotel, come here and kill Kesler. Yeah,
she could have done it, allright. I would have a dry
neck put out for her at once. I suppose you'd better, Mitchell is
aphone something bothers me about this setup? Blue Tenant? What did it?
I don't know, I can't quiteput my finger on it. But
hey, wait, what are youdoing, Kevin? Do you see any
other ashtrays in this room? Why? No, only this one in front
(23:45):
of you. Why what's in thisashtray? Mitcher? What is the matter
with you? You can see aswell? Is either a two cigarette butts
with lipstick on him? Anything else? No, of course not she here?
You see a waste basket in theroom? Anywhere? Wate basket?
Anything on the rug row? No, not that I can see, Mitchel.
Have you suddenly lost your mind? No? A matter of fact,
(24:07):
I think I've just found it.What are you talking about? You see
if you can locate Susan Barlow anyway? Well, if I'm going on a
little errand if my hunch is right, I don't have much time I had
for the ship Southern end person ina hurry. Just as I get onto
the dock, I see a figurehurrying down the gangway, suitcase in the
(24:29):
hand. I follow. He divesaround the corner of a warehouse. I
beat it after him. When Iget around the corner, all of a
sudden, there he is right besideme, with a gun jammed in my
ribs, plugging for me Mitchell.Yeah, Steward. As a matter of
fact, I was looks like youfound me get inside the warehouse. Okay,
I think I've got it all pegnow Steward, Yeah, that's nice.
(24:52):
Still got realize it. It'd probablybe tough for him to get those
papers that's here. He knew Kesslerwas waiting for him, so they made
a deal with you to take thepapers to get here is a door opening.
You figured there'd be more doing itfor you if you kept the stuff,
but Kessler knew you had it.That's why you came to do back
state room. That meant you hadto knock him off, which you did
(25:14):
half an hour ago. Come on, Mitchell and send hey wired bring me
in the warehouse quiet. Besides, they won't find your body for days with
all these great stacked around. Wellthat's a jolly thought. I gotta hand
it to you. Minchell, gotit all figured out. How you tumble
to me, I don't know, but right now it doesn't matter, And
(25:34):
I'm move whare too straight ahead?Okay, Hey, where are we going?
I can't see a thing in thedark. Don't worry about that mission
because for you it's gonna get alot dark I stumbled along the warehouse,
knowing that any moment he's going topull a trigger. Then, as I'm
(25:56):
feeling my way down the aisle betweenthe crates, my hand brushes against something
hanging on the edge of one ofthe crates. It's a cargo hook.
I take hold of it, keepingit in front of me, And then
when we get to the next aisle, I suddenly whip around behind me and
dive down the aisle. I'm halfway down the aisle by the time he
gets his gun up. He's shootingblind. By now I've got my own
(26:17):
gun out of my pocket. Ithrow one down the aisle in his directions.
Better call it a day, Stewart. You can't get out of here.
I'm between you and the door. You wanted me a colass. Let
me, miss Gartly a nice, warm reception. It's only a question at
time, Stewart. Mister canna ohchase my last shot for a while on
the chow leaves me three still onthe gun. Like I tell you,
(26:38):
you can't get out of here.I got notes for you, and you
slider over there near the door, try to get out to collect a slug
Like you said, it's a questionat time, but I can wait as
long as you can, all ofwhich is getting me nowhere. It sounds
(26:59):
like it's stalemate. Then I lookup a pilot crate is about thirty feet
high, and it sounds like Steward'son the other side. That gives me
an idea. Maybe I need abird's eye view of him. I start
climbing quietly and so, like goingup one of those pyramids. I'm almost
to the top when I hear afaint sound on the other side. Then
I get it. The steward hasthe same idea. He's climbing too,
so it looks like we're gonna playKing of the Mountain. I flapped myself
(27:22):
against the side of the top crate. After a few seconds, a dim
flicker comes into view gets the stewardholding his gun ahead of him. I
hang at his wrist. You didn'tmeet that gun anyway a night high.
Yeah, yeah, I can't getyour wrist locks soon enough. I just
pat it's only a sample. Yeah, here's a little something for you,
(27:49):
oh brother. I climbed down theSteward's done for my fish in his pocket
and find the papers I've been chasing, and then I go outside the picture
near the gangway. When he seesme, hurries over. Oh it's Lieutenant
Braga, Mitch, are you allright? I traced you here to the
(28:11):
ship. The captain told me hehad seen you following the steward down the
duck. Yeah. Speaking of following, did you locate Susan Barlow? Oh?
Yes? Hey? Why did shecheck out over her hotel in such
a hurry so she could check inat another hotel? What at a hotel?
Your hotel? Why? Yes?She told me she had decided that
you and she were going to be, as she put it, sure enough
powerful frame. Oh fine, andfor this I get shot at, stabbed,
(28:34):
and nearly drowned. But Mitchell, what made you realize that this steward
was behind all this? Well, when you and I first found that cigarette
butt of Susan's and Duvac stayroom, the steward was there. Remember, Yes,
that is true, But that gavehim the idea he probably had a
chance to lift some out of herroom, and he was cleaning it.
Then when he killed Kesler, heused scissors and planted those cigarette butts in
(28:56):
Kessler's room to make it look likeSusan have done it. But how did
you know they had been planted? This Susan used matches instead of a lighter.
There was a match book in Kessler'spocket, no lighter, but there
weren't any matches on the ashtray.Ah. Yeah, you see. If
there'd been only one cigarette, itcould have been brought in lighted. But
the fact that there were two ofthem with no matches made it look a
little funny to me. So itwould appear that the stewart overlooked the one
(29:21):
more detailable match, which might havemade his plain succeed. Yeah, I
guess you might say he who isalmost a match for us. Dangerous Assignment
(29:49):
stars Brian Dunlevy as Steve Mitchell, with her Butterfield as the Commissioner. Is
written by Bob Rice and Adrian JohnDoe, music by Robert arm Brewster,
and its produced directed by Bill carnOthers in the cast were Bill Johnstone,
Tony Barrett Arler McVeagh, Peter Leedsand Betty lou Gerson. Be with Us
again next week at this same time, when Brian don Levy starring in the
(30:11):
role of Steve Mitchell William Park onanother Dangerous Assignments. Three Chimes Mean Good
times on NBC. Who calls EverybodyDarling? Why Telulah of course? And
(30:34):
tomorrow Talulah's darlings on The Big Showinclude Fred Allen, Eddie Canter, Phil
Baker, Eddie Fisher and many more. You're invited every Sunday to The Big
Show and for drama. Tomorrow,Theater Guild on the Air presents a one
hour adaptation of Genie starring Barry Sullivanand Margaret Phillips. Now stay tuned for
The Man Called X on NBC.Welcome Back, Okay, I didn't think
(31:11):
it was cute that Betty Luke Gerson'scharacter came from New England, the southern
part of New England, which isa nice wink at all these sort of
Southern bell characters that you'll find inthese programs. Also a nice concluding final
battle between Steve and the Steward.Well. Now we turn to listener comments
(31:36):
and feedback, and we've got aquestion from Sean on YouTube regarding the episode
Nazi Fugitive, and he asked, how sure are you about that title?
And the answer is, to behonest, not sure at all. For
the best documented series out there, the question of the correct title is very
(32:02):
well documented. For example, inmost episodes of Sam Spade, the episode
name is clearly stated by the announcer. If not, then it was on
the scraps and those have been locatedJohnny Doaller. At this point all of
the names right in the body ofthe program. Same thing for file events,
(32:25):
same thing for Tales of the TexasRangers. And then you come to
a series like Dangerous Assignment. Episodetitles are not clearly stated in the program.
Specific titles were not stated in newspaperreports, and specific scraps have not
(32:47):
been consulted or have not been somethingworth pursuing for researchers. So what we
have with Dangerous Assignment are eventually titlesthat have been set by the old time
radio collecting community. And when thesetitles exist and there is not a better
(33:12):
alternative, I will go ahead andput them on the episode, even if
I don't think too much of thetitle, because the reason those titles are
given is to really distinguish between particularepisodes. So if I decide I think
this episode title it would sound betterif it were something else, then that
(33:36):
could lead to confusion with people thinkingthat I have an uncirculating episode when I've
just renamed an existing circulating episode.I will make exceptions to this rule,
but generally it'll be something like ifthe recognized unofficial title actually contains a spoiler
(33:57):
for the plot of the episode. In the absence of an official title that
I can use, I'll use unofficialtitles that are commonly being used on the
Internet to avoid confusion, and alsoto make sure that folks searching for circulating
episodes of Dangerous Assignment and podcast formwill be able to listen to what I
(34:19):
have. Again, a great question, and I wish we had accurate titles,
but at least we can avoid causingany confusion. And then there's a
comment from Christine over on Spotify, and Christine wrote, these always seem like
the man called x Light. Thatbeing said, I really do enjoy them.
(34:44):
Thank you for all the great radioyou provide. Well, thank you
so much, Christine. I appreciateit, and I can understand what you're
saying. I don't think anyone's goingto say that Dangerous Assignment is high drama,
but is a really fun adventure detectivemystery series, and we're so glad
