week's episode of Dangerous Assignment. Theoriginal airdate March the tenth, nineteen fifty
(01:38):
one, and the title is SolveYour Own Murder. Dangerous Assignments, ring
Brian tun Levy as Steve Mitchell.Yeah, danger is my assignment. I
(02:17):
get sent to a lot of placesI can't even pronounce. They all spell
the same thing, though, trouble. But when I walk into the Commissioner's
office, I don't realize that thisassignment's going to involve my trying to solve
my own murder. Morning, CommissionerRuth said, you had an assignment for
(02:39):
me. You know you're looking prettygood after all? Than you look dandy
too. Any reason why I shouldn'tlook all right? Well, according to
all the known laws of medical science, right now, you should be looking
bad. Why last night you droppeddead? Oh well, if that's sort
of h I dropped das what Isaid, Well, it was certainly the
most painless death I ever had.Anyway, Now, look, Amissioner,
(03:02):
I don't know what this is allabout, but it's a little early in
the morning for jokes, wouldn't youthink her? This is no joke ever?
Here of Roquel, now it soundslike something for a sour stomach.
Oquel is the name of the townin South America where you were murdered last
night. Murdered. Here we goagain. Now wait, a miss Steve,
A man was shot to death inan alley there last night. He
was carrying a complete set of credentialswhich identified him as Steve Mitchell, US
(03:24):
government agent. I see any ideawho this guy really was or why he
was posing none at all. Buthe was undoubtedly involved in something big,
something which required him to pass himselfoff as a US agent. Oh do
you want to know what that's somethingis? I suddinly do, because I
have a strong hunch that whatever itis, there's an aroma connected with it.
That's not very sweet. Any contactsdown there who can help me?
(03:46):
When you arrive in Roquel, Isuggest you talked to an American correspondent named
Kavanaugh. He seems to know asmuch about the incident as anyone. Right
now, Steve, get down there, talk to Kavanaugh and then get to
the bottom of this whole deal.Well, it's it. You've got your
assignment. Good luck. The NationalBroadcasting Company is presenting Dangerous Assignment, starring
(04:20):
Brian don Levy and the role ofSteve Mitchell, colorful two fisted government agent.
All those places of the world wheredanger an intrigue walk hand in hand.
There you'll find Steve Mitchell on anotherdangerous assignment. Sure, I've got
(04:41):
my assignment. Just run down tothe little town of Rockell in South America
and find out who killed me andwhy. At this point, it Sherry
looks like somebody doesn't like my namemuch. One man's already been killed just
for assuming it. It gives mean uneasy hunch about what's ahead for me,
the real owner. It's Wednesday whenthe plane lands at Rochel and I
find the American car Spaun the Kavanaughin the nearest bar where hell, now
(05:04):
I have seen everything mature. Acorpse comes wandering around to find out who
killed a Yeah, and what I'mwondering right now is why I ever picked
this cleep it and down to getmyself knocked going him? You really must
have been hard, But believe me, Hey, look Kavanaugh, this guy
who got himself killed. Did helook anything like me? Na? He
was an American too, but that'sabout all but those credentials he had.
(05:28):
I gotta look at him, andthey sure looked like the real McCoy to
me. Yeah, what do youthink the guy's anger? West Micham.
That's what I'm down here to findout. What can you tell me about
the actual shooting. Well, theytook place in the alley right outside this
bar. Were you in here atthe time? Where else? Silly question?
Well, go on, I hearda shot. I ran outside.
The guy was lying on the ground. Somebody was bending over him. Look
(05:53):
to me like he was trying toget something out of the dead man's pockets.
Did you get a good look athim? No, it was too
dark. It was a matter offact, I'm not sure it was even
a hymn. I see this guy'sbody at the morgue. Yeah, yeah,
come on, I'll take you overthere. Well, you're right,
(06:15):
Kavanaugh. He looks like an American, all right, but there's sure not
much resemblance to me you've seen inthat Yeah, I'd like to take a
look at those tonic potentials. Youhappen to know who's got them now,
the police and magical Okay, I'llcheck there. Hey, you know who
those people are who just came in, Kavanaugh. They seem to be heading
this way. Well, the stockyguy in the uniform is Colonel Gomeer,
(06:38):
is head of the National Police. But I've never seen the other guy.
Know the dame before Colonel that hedid not involved in anything criminal at mos
to determine Senora, Hello, ColonelOh, Senor kevinor the American journalist.
Colonel, I've got someone here.I know you'll be interested in meeting the
real Steve Mitchell. So I don'tknow your Colonel Gomean and die. You,
(07:00):
Senor, I am indeed happy youhave been sent down here to help
us clear up this mystery. Well, it looks like I didn't go over
so well with the little lady here. She has indeed good cause for a
lam at being confronted by you,Senor Mitchell. Oh, so, because
this is your wife, as Mariew, Well, I seem to have pretty
good taste, by which I meanto say that this woman is Senora Maria
Mitchell, wife of the man whowas posing as yourself, and this is
(07:23):
her brother, Senor Miguel Escobar Escobar. Senor, Senor, how long was
your husband using my name? ButI did not know he was using anyone's
name, Senor. I thought itwas his own. He was using it
when I first met him. Oh, how long ago was that a little
over a month? Only a month? And yet you were married to him,
(07:45):
Senor. If you're casting reflections uponmy sister, you will answer the
lady Escar. I'm not casting reflectionson anyone. I'm just trying to find
out a few facts. You willanswer, Senor Mitchell. Senora mateo,
I mean Senor well answering him,it was true. I hadn't known him
long and I met him in acantina. Bah. Everything was against us,
(08:07):
and yet I loved him. Nohead. Yeah, Look, have
you any idea what your husband couldhave been involved in? Signor? Can
you not see that this is avery bad time to question my sister.
I insisted you ask a bar.A guy using my name has been killed.
It's important to me far to findout if he was killed because he
was using my name. So whoeverthat it'll be trying to do likewise to
(08:31):
me. So suppose you just buttonup you. I am merely trying to
protect my sister. I wonder whatdo you mean by that same yourroscobar,
you will hold your tongue. SenorMitchell has every right to ask any questions
he desires. Thanks, colonel,But I guess that'll be all for now.
I would like to look at thedead man's effects, however, But
of course, if you will comewith me into the next room, I'll
be out here when you're okay,Kevin, the effects are on the table.
(08:56):
Yeah, not much here to giveus a lead. Cigaretts matches money.
He wonder what the key is forthe dead man's apartment. I searched
it personally but could find nothing thatmight throw any light on this matter.
I say, mind if I takethe key, but of course not.
It is possible you may find somethingthat I may have missed. Colonel Gomez,
what do you think this is allabout? I wish I knew Mitchell.
(09:18):
It's all very perplexing. Anything cookingin this country in a way of
intrigue or anything like that, notthat I know of, and I am
certain I would know if there were. You see Mitchell as head of the
National Police, I am actually secondin command. Well, President, I
see okay, Colonel, I'm goingover to the dead Man's apartment. I'll
see you later. I head forthe dead Man's apartment, letting myself in
(09:45):
with a key, and I givethe room a frisk. But the only
items of interests are a couple ofmatch books for the name of a bar
on them, La Pasada. Thedoor. I go over and open it.
Standing in the hall as a smallmiddle late nervous looking gents have you
send your Mitchell? Okay, sohow do I answer that one? Does
he mean in my the phony Mitchellor the real Mitchell? I guess I
(10:07):
hesitate too long, because he suddenlywhips the gun out of his pocket.
I die that I'm just as thegun goes off. Hot streak shays its
way across the top of my headand I go down. I come out
of it a few minutes later, complete with a red hot crease on the
top of my head. A littletrigger man, of course, is gone.
I go outside and start down themain street. Then I spot a
(10:28):
sign over a door, La Posada, the same bar on the match folders,
and the dead Man's apartment. Igo inside, up mess out of
the floor. Girl has just finishedher dance. One look at her and
I can see why the ovation.I go over to the bar, shoten
miche no information, These scums ina buftony. Look. Did you ever
(10:52):
see a guy named Steve Mitchell aroundhere? Mitchell? Mitchell, Mitchell,
don't have to memorize it. Tellme if you've ever seen him in here
before? Mitchell m I don't thinkso, Thanks a lie? How about
that? I asked George? MaybeGeorge remember is he? Who is he?
Who? Right? Brother? Myroutines are hilarious. I could make
(11:18):
a fortune down here. Look, giggles, what's so funny? George?
George, come in a minute, wants to talk to you. Thank your
bartender. Hey, wait a minute, Hello, you're the dancer. Don't
tell me your name is George.Don't tell him? Okay, card,
(11:39):
How did you ever get a handlelike that? Then? Yeah, you
mean a name like that? Oneof them start calling me George, and
everybody called me George? What doyou want? And why you don't buy
me? You're drinking? Well later? Right now, I'd like to know
if you've ever seen a guy namedSteve Mitchell in here? Really imposture?
(12:01):
Do you know anything about him?Not much? She spend money, take
for it trips? What kind oftrips? I don't know. He used
to go to the interior once ina while, but now I don't see
him for a while. That's okaywith me, So while we don't quit
talking about it, snichell, hwhat's your name, buddy? You'd never
believe it, George, So maybewe just better skip it and have a
(12:22):
drinker with me. Good bye.I've been looking all over, boy,
oh, Kevin, Now what's up? Well, you can quit looking for
the guy who killed you all.You know. I don't think I used
so cool. There's nothing wrong withyour hearing, George. If it sounds
confusing, it's because it is.So Why can't I quit looking for the
guy who killed me? Kavanaugh?Because he's down at the police station right
(12:43):
now. What? Yeah, yeah, he just walked in and confessed.
Colonel cole Maz has him in thatroom down the hall. Mitchell. Okay,
now we can just find out fromhim why he killed this guy who
was posing here. We are hatchhim. The little guy sitting there,
(13:07):
Hey, which did her life?It sure isn't your fault. I am
buster. Hey, what's the solidabout season your Mitchell? Perhaps you will
be good enough to explain. It'svery simple, Colonel Gomez. While I
was searching the dead man's apartment anhour ago, this little character showed up
the door and asked if I wasSteve Mitchell. While I was trying to
figure out whether he meant the realMitchell or the phony Mitchell, he pulled
(13:28):
a gun. I dove for himand deflected his aim a little, and
he creased my head and took allI would have sworn you have did.
But what is DC but the realmeat you'll in the phony? Mitchell Mitschell.
Night before last, a man posingas myself got killed in an alley.
When Kavanaugh told me you'd walked inhere and confessed, I figured you
were the one who killed him.But I did not even know of the
existence of these other man. WhenI confessed a few minutes ago, it
(13:52):
was because I thought i'd killed youwith that apartment. You know, somebody
better started explaining this to me.It's getting to sound more like a Chinese
puzzle the second see, and itis also quite embarrassing. Senor Mitchell.
How so, Colonel, this littlecharacter as you call him, this man
who shout at you with Senor Marilla, a respected member of our National Assembly
and a loyal supporter of our government. Wow, God, this is going
(14:13):
to look great in print. Iwas convinced that I was acting in the
best interests of my country, SenorMitchell. I repeat that I did not
know a man had been impersonating you. That of course explas everything. Well,
I'm glad here it makes sense tosomebody, Senyor Marilla, a statement
from you would be an order yousee. For some time now, I
have been concerned with the bands ofrebels who are hiding in our mountains.
(14:33):
Rebels. Again, you should realize, Senior Marilla, they are not power,
not a fidish. Colonel Gomez,I planted one of my men in
the camp to find out what theywere doing. This man reported to me
that a certain then your Steve Mitchell, had been going from camp to camp
promising the United States back into therebels and offering to send them guns and
ammunition. What is this you aresaying? Don't stop him now, Colonel,
(14:54):
A deal was just starting to makesense. I was deeply shocked and
bitter at what I considered to bethe vile treachery this man, I know
the United States, whom he claimedto the presided. I learned this address
here, then thebell, you answeredthe doors, and you meet you.
I assumed you will be mind Isought and fire at you are. I
can only say now that I amcalled shape well little wash off. Right
(15:15):
now, I'd like to hear alittle more about these rebels in the interior.
Well, it's always been sort ofa touchy subject around him. But
you you see, there's some peoplewho sympathize with these rebels who believe it,
and your Cavanot allow me to pointout that when it comes to the
affairs of this country, you arean outsider. There are any statements to
be made concerning these rebels, Iwill make them that suits me. And
speaking of statements, didn't your presidentmake one a couple of months ago to
(15:39):
the effect that he intended to sitdown with the leaders of the rebel bands
and see if there are differences andgrievances couldn't beyond up peasably. I believe
some such statement was issued to thepress. Well, I don't remember those
talks ever taken place. How comebecause I advised del president against it?
Or see, I consider it beneaththe dignity of the government to recognize such
rebel. You know, that's thefunny thing about rebel, Colonel, that
(16:03):
can get pretty powerful. Indeed, you speak as an expert in such matters,
Senor gestion an observation. This rebeldid not used to be powerful.
No, I have known for sometime that the rebels would like too much
on the city. They have alwaysbeen low on guns and leadership. Now,
however, it appears to be adifferent story. An enemy of my
government is trying to arm this riffRamin. It is possible they might be
strong enough to make their move,a move which would plunge our country into
(16:26):
a blood is if you WoT no, Marilla, this will never happen.
As long as I Gomez am alive. I must remember that I control the
minitia. I will search out theserebels in the hills and smash them,
now, one of them, beforethey can organize. There's one big thing
wrong with that idea, Colonel, and what is that a lot of people
would be killed, if you meanthe armed rebel, then I say good
riddance. I think I've got abetter idea. I suppose someone went into
(16:47):
the interior, located the headquarters ofthe rebels, and talk to their leaders.
Talk to them. Yeah, Itold them that the stake Steve Mitchell
was exploiting them, and that thewhole thing is a racket. Saint your
mission. Who do you have inmind to make the trip into the v
myself? You? Why not,Marilla? You're tired of Livin? Maybe
not particularly Kevin or why Those boysin the interior are pretty rugged. I'll
take my chances that they'll listen tome. It sounds like a pretty crazy
(17:11):
idea to me. Oh maybe youdon't want me to make the trip.
N me. Why should I careone way or another? You know,
That's just what I was wondering,Senor Mitchell. I appreciate the generosity of
your offer, but I am afraidI cannot permit you to take the reach.
Look, Colonel, my government hasbeen dragged into this deal by that
dead gun peddler and whoever is behindthem. I think they'd feel a lot
better if one of their agents couldhelp straighten the thing out without bloodshed.
(17:33):
I do not know. According tomy information, the rebel headquarters are well
hidden well. With time, Imight be able to locate them. And
there is a matter of the securityof my government. If these rebels are
armed, they must be smashed. Now I feel I should give the order
to the militia to search them upand destroy them. I'm asking you to
delay the order until I've had achance to talk to them. Very well,
(17:53):
I will delay the order at twelvehours. That's not very much.
I can give you no more signorwelve howers in which to locate the rebel's
headquarters and to undertake your journey onewhich I sincerely hope will not turn out
to be a one week great threeChimes being Good Times on NBC. For
(18:21):
something new about the army, herethe Phil Reagan Show tomorrow on NBC.
Coming from a different service base.Every week, Phil Reagan brings you songs
and fun and brings prizes to talentedgis as an exciting newcomer in your Sunday
Chime lineup on NBC. Also Sundaymeans Carry Grant and Betsy Drake as Mister
and Missus Blanding. Now back toDangerous Assignments starring Brian don Levy as Steve
(18:49):
Mitchell. So now I've got justtwelve hours to prevent a civil war from
breaking out. That means I gotto locate the rebel headquarters in a hurry.
I remember George, the dancing girl. Maybe she can give me a
lead. I hurry back to thebar where she works. Look, party,
(19:11):
don't waste my time no more. The last time you were in here,
you were gonna buy me a drink. So what happened? All of
a sudden, pool You're gone?Yeah, yeah, I got called away
in a hurry. Now, look, George, I need a little information
about this guy, Steve Mitchell, who used to come in here. I
tell you, I don't want totalk about that bomb. You say he
made frequent trips into the interior. You're having a noware no? He wanted
(19:33):
to take me a couple of times, but never I will go, Oh
that's not myself. Yeah, happento know how he made the trips?
I mean, did he fly?Take a boat? What? What he
drove? Automobile? I see?Oh that's still not much to go on
all the time? A different color? What's that? One time he gone
by and asked me to go withhim? He's driving a blue car.
(19:55):
Yeah, next time a black car. And once he's driving a green car.
I almost wind with him. ThenI like green. Sounds like he
remembered the cars for the trips.Okay, George, thanks? Hey wait
a minute, Boddy, what's thematter? So don't tell me? Now
you're gonna poof off you go againwithout buying me a drink. I don't
think this is much of a friendship. You think this will make up for
(20:18):
the poof Yeah, but this yougot an extra a poof coming. Like
I told you, I like green. I start scarring the town for car
rentolgencies, and I find three ofthem. At the first two I draw
blanks. Finally, along about dark, I worked my way to the third,
(20:41):
and the old gentleman Charger sitting ina little office fighting a brave but
losing battle to stay awake. What'sthe Nimica Mitchell? Steve Mitchell Chell,
Come on, what'st okay? Alfredo? Now'll prop open those peepers long enough
to tell me what are not aguy named Steve Mitchell? Ever rented a
(21:02):
car from you? Steve Mitchell?Oh? She here in a car from
me? How long ago? Threedays? Which car did he rent the
last time? There is a greenone. It's a nice car. You
let the rented? Maybe? Hey, hey, come on, come on,
snap out of it? My comfortable? Yeah? So am I?
(21:26):
You keep my leads figures on yourcars? See then on the Wolfinger if
you don't mind you RICHI huh ooker. Here we are pedometer reading. Let's
see card travel to tell him aboutfour hundred kilometers on the treader. Okay,
got a map? Hey, mapmap? Oh she up on the
(21:51):
shelf? Okay, I got it. Now let's say car travel total four
hundred kilometers? Two hundred there andback. So I use this point as
a stern draw a circle with ana radius at two hundred kilometers. It
looks pretty thanks, we're near therim of that circle. As a spody
travel too. Circle goes through somepretty rugged country, and from the looks
(22:14):
of that car has been washed sincehe brought it back. She this morning.
So there's no Claire mdnn it togive me a clue as to what
kind of country he traveled through. You're why you draw this pretty circle on
the map and play the riddle gameswith yourself. It doesn't happen to be
a game out freedom. I'm tryingto figure out what spot in the interior
this guy went to, and rightnow it doesn't look like I'm getting very
(22:36):
far. Well, well, ifyou want to know where he went,
I will tell you what. Shethe village of San Bruno. But you
figure that out because she tells me. Why didn't you say so before?
You didn't ask me? Okay, okay, So I am the sleeping one,
I guess, and Bruno huh, well, thank you and sweets Alfredo.
(23:06):
I get a block down the streetand then I realized I've forgotten to
ask Alfredo if that guy ever tookanyone with him to San Bruno. I
go back. Alfrido stillson sitting inthe same spot, his head on his
arms. Didn't take him long toget back to sleep. I shake him,
but he doesn't come out of it. I lift up his head and
then I see why, how canyou wake up when your throat has been
cut? Now I know whoever's behindthis deal is keeping up with me every
(23:30):
step of the way, and Irealized this isn't the healthiest spot in the
world for me right now. Iget out of there fast. The streets
are dark and deserted, and Itake Avanita Ruez, one of the streets
that leads to my hotel, andI'm walking along. I hear some steps
behind me. I stopped. Theystopped too. They start walking again,
(23:52):
so there's the other guy. Istop again. This time the other guy
keeps coming. Suddenly I see aclean the middle in the shadows, and
I hit the ground. Slug bouncesoff the wall behind me. Before I
can get a look at the TRIGGERMANIducks into the alley. I scrambled to
my feet and take off after him. But when I get into the alley,
there's no one in sight. Ipound through the alley the next block,
and then I spot a guy runningacross the square. He passes under
a street light and I get alook at his face. It's a newspaper
(24:15):
correspondent, Kavanaugh. So at thispoint it looks like he's my boy.
But right now I'm more interested ingetting to the rebel headquarters of San Bruno
because I know my time is runningout. I phone the airport and tell
HIM'M on my way out. WhenI get there, they've got a transport
plane warming up, and Cardinal Gomezis waiting for me. Good evening,
Senor Mitchell, what luck? Prettygood, Colonel Comez. I think I've
(24:37):
located the rebel's headquarters splendid. Whereis it? Well, if my information
is correct, it's near the villageof San Bruno in the interior. And
I think my information is correct becausesomebody sure didn't want me to find that
out. What do you mean? The guy who told me got his throat
slipped Right afterwards, I see SanBruno at his wild country. Mitchell,
Yeah, there is an emergency landingscript not far from the village. Incidentally,
(24:59):
Colonel come you're wearing a flight jacket. I am to be your pilots
in your Mitchell. Oh see,you are making the trip to help my
country. I feel at least Ican do. We share the responsibility and
the danger. Okay, Colonel thanks. Hey, I'm not taking a passage.
Kevanah, well about it. Youthink maybe you might get another chance
to kill me up on that plane, Kevina, what are you talking about?
(25:21):
Don't tell me that wasn't you.I saw running across that square near
my hotel right after that shot wasfired at night, Mitchell. Sure sure
that was me. You promised mean exclusive on this, do you remember.
Yeah, So when you started shaggingaround investigating, I thought i'd better
follow you to keep posting. OhI heard the shot. I saw a
guy duck into an alley, soI started chasing him. That's what I
(25:41):
was doing, running across the squarewhen you spirted me. But needless to
say, he got away. He'ssure dead. Mitchell, you did not
tell me of this attempt on yourlife. When did it happen? About
a half an hour ago? ColonelI was walking along the street towards my
hotel when somebody took a shot atme. I see you were fortunate to
escape with your life and of AnitaRuis. It is a perfect spot for
(26:02):
ambush, bully lit severalies. Yeah, you still haven't told me whether or
not I get to go with youon this trip. No soap, Cavanaugh.
Well now that's just fine. Thatis you know, Mitchell, you
could take a few lessons in gratitude. Yeah, well maybe you could take
a few from One Eye Connolly.Come on, Colonel, A turn and
(26:26):
I had for the controlled tower tocheck the weather. Ten minutes later we
take off. The Colonel heads weretransporting the direction of sand brown on pretty
soon were flying over some dense jungle. Senior Mitchell, I did not understand
your remark to send your coven offbefore we took off. Who is this
one Eye Connelly? You referred toHi just the character up in the States,
Colonel, and I do not understandwhy if Covenoy is the man who
(26:48):
tried to kill you, you didnot want him arrested. I didn't have
any proof, Colonel anyway, Ifigured it was more important for us to
get the San Bruno and talk tothe rebel leaders. You are still convinced
you can't prevent a civil warm,which I am still convinced it's worth a
try. Colonel, how much longeruntil we get there? As a matter
of fact, Mitchure, you mightsay, we are there right now.
I don't see anything but jungle downthere. I mean, how much longer
(27:11):
to the end of the trip. And I repeat, you have already reached
the end of your trip. Hey, now, look, well that gun
says you mean just what you saytoo. Indeed it does. So you're
my boy, Colonel Gomez. Atthis point it would appear that you are
my boy, Mitchell, and you'rethe one who is backing the sale of
guns to the rebels. Why thatdoes not concern you, No, Mitchell,
(27:33):
you're second in command of your government. You wouldn't buy any chance to
be bucking for number one spot, which I would indeed, Mitchell, Sure,
you hire a guy to sell gunsto the rebels and promise them US
support. That gets them steamed upto fight. Then you go in with
more troops and better weapons and wipethem out. All of a sudden,
you're a national hero. Up comesan election and it's Gomez for president.
(27:53):
You trace my future career with greataccuracy. Well, so what happens to
me now, Gomez? It isquite simple. First, I shoot you,
Andy then I push your body outof the plane that I fly back
and announced that the rebels have killedyou. And of course you'll use that
as an excuse to move in whenyou're true exactly Well, I'm sorry to
disappoint you, colonel, but that'snot exactly the way it's going to work
(28:14):
out. Indeed, and why notme, I ask. We're gonna fly
back to the capital, explain thewhole thing. You're gonna stand trial for
murder, and five will get toten. Your president will sit down and
talk to the rebels and straighten everythingout peacefully. You'll think I'm kitting.
I enjoy your sense of humor aman who is barnless. Yet you get
big jokes. The jokes on you, colonel. You see it transports a
(28:36):
pretty good sized plane. What doyou mean just that we're not alone?
What if you don't believe me?Look behind you. Oh no, my
friend, that is the oldest trickin the world. I will not fall
for it. He ain't kitting,Colonel Kevin. That's for turning your head.
That, my friend, is whatI would call a first class clip.
(28:57):
Now in it's just one thing.I want to know. What can
you fly this cop look more.I'm doing it, ain't I I wasn't
sure whether or not you got themessage back at the airfield Cavano. Well,
when you mentioned one icon me theworld's greatest gap crasher, I figured
you wanted me to copy his act. So I crawled aboard while you two
were in the control tower. Butwhat made you suspect? The colonel?
(29:19):
When I told him about the attempton my life? He said the Avanita
Ruez was a dangerous street. Remember, but I hadn't told him where it
had happened. I see, Well, I've bet he'll be kicking himself of
being Channiger Beaver. He won't beworrying about that very long. Why what
do you mean, I've got astrong hunch that eager Beaver is due to
turn into a dead duck. DangerousAssignment, starring Brian don Levy as Steve

Mitchell, has written by Bob Ryfeand Adrian Chando and music by Robert Armbrister,

and many more. Also on Sunday, Theater Guild brings you the delightful story
The Hasty Heart, starring John Lunn, Jane Wyatt, and Richard Greene.
It's the Man called X on MBCWelcome Back. Well a good case as
(31:18):
some solid suspects to go with agood premise, and there was also some
humor. I did like that pointwhere the guy who had come after Steve
said that he was covered in shame, and Steve said it'll wash off,
as if to say, I reallydon't care. I've got to get this
(31:38):
whole case solved and sorted. Stevecontinues to stake his life on others,
catching on to subtle hints. It'sa good thing I never ran into anyone
like Steve Mitchell or else they wouldhave sadly expired because I don't do those
sort of things. It was kindof weird that Steve found it so unusual
(32:01):
that the lady in the bar wasnamed George. While it wasn't super common,
it wasn't unheard of. In theNancy Drew books, one of her
two best friends was named George, and we're later told that that was short
for Georgia, although it could alsobe for Georgiana, which I think would
(32:24):
be more common in South America, which kind of makes that explanation a bit
silly when there's a perfectly reasonable onefor why she'd be called George. Listener

Although I'm finally qualified to be abeauty contest judge, why not.
(34:00):
You're a man, You've got eyes, and to be perfectly prank about it,
it doesn't matter who wins. Ibeg your pardon. I arrange this
contest for a group of guests asa sort of publicity campaign for the line
of shoes I manufactury. See eachof the girls, as you can see,
is wearing a bathing suit, andeach of the bathing suits is different,
but the shoes are all the same. I later smiled, what do
(34:22):
you think? Well, as you'vesaid, mister Jordan, I'm a man
and I have eyes. Isn't itasking a little too much to think I'd
have looked at shoes? You will, and so will everybody when the winner's
picture appears in the papers, anda matter who wins should be wearing my
shoes. Very glad. I'm notexactly experienced of being a judge, mister
(34:43):
Jordan. H What am I supposedto do? Now? You're supposed to
select the one that looks most attractive, and whoever that is, wins my
ten thousand dollars prize? Which oneof the five do you think should be
the winner? Well, now thatrequires some ve. Did you say there
are only four girls? There mustbe fine? The four girls you have
(35:05):
are really nice? He is bettergo say come on, mister Jordan,
what's happened here? Let me proplease? If you don't mind, excuse
me? Wasn't it if you yelled? What is this? Is? Where?
Or why? Here? Behind thebushes? I think she's dead?
Yes, she's dead, all right, milon stockings been twisted around her neck?
(35:27):
Who was shape one of the modelsin the contest? I don't know
my name. I'll have to findout. Well, this is terrible.
Why should anyone I don't know, mister Jordan, And I imagine you were
going to say, why should anyonemurder such a lovely young lady? That's
very important of course that there's somethingelse important. Look closely, you see
something missing her shoes. She's notwearing her shoes, that's right. So
(35:49):
we have two questions, mister Jordan, why should somebody kill a lovely young
lady and then steal her shoes?I hope you'll be with us then in
