this week's episode of Dangerous Assignment. There was a missing episode between last week's
(01:34):
show and this week's. The originalairdate on this week's is February twenty fourth,
nineteen fifty one, and the titleis Nazi buzz Bomb Dangerous Assignments,
(01:57):
starring Brian don Levy as Steve Cho. Yeah. Danger is my assignment.
(02:21):
I get sent to a lot ofplaces I can't even pronounce. They all
spell the same thing, though, trouble. But when I walk into the
Commissioner's office, I don't realize thisassignment's going to end up with a guy
I'm looking for shoving a gun inmy back and me doing my best to
help him. Morning can, Isaid, real said, you had an
(02:45):
assignment for me, and I doso you well, where do I go
this time? I'm not sure you'renot. Let's have that again, you
held me. I'm not sure?Okay, okay, So what do I
do when I get there? Idon't know. Now, wait a minute,
you're not sure where I'm going.You don't know what I'm supposed to
do when I get there? Well, okay, if you want to play
twenty questions, is it animal, vegetable or mineral? Mineral? And I'll
(03:05):
save you the other nineteen questions bytelling you it's a buzz bomb. Buzz
bomb, Steve, I'm sure youremember how proficient the Nazis were on the
last wall with buzz bombs. Yeah, as I remember. They sure remodeled
the London sky Line with them. That's right. Perhaps you also remember that
we had strong indications if the Nazishad a complete set of plans for a
new buzz bomb, one which apparentlyis equal or superior to the guided missiles
(03:27):
were working on right now, mostplans disappeared, and we've had no line
on them whatsoever up until last night. What happened last night. For some
time one of our agents in Berlinhas been on the trail of a man
he was convinced was involved. Lastnight in an alley, he finally found
a man with a knife in hisback. H So now we don't have
any more line on it than before. I wouldn't say that. You see,
the dying man lasted long enough toadmit that he and a friend of
(03:51):
his had stolen the plans around thetime of the fall of Berlin. Did
he say who his friend was,man named Ferlick, who brought them to
this country right afterward? Their schemewas the hell to the highest bidder.
But the dying man hadn't heard fromFrelick since he came to the States five
years ago. Five years ago.Little why hasn't Frelick tried to peddle the
plans before? Now? Then wedon't know. That's what I want you
to find out after your fine Frelickand Steve, remember that whoever killed Frelick's
(04:15):
pop in Berlin knows as much aboutit as we do. That means from
now on it's going to be arace. Every minute counts. Double get
on as Steve, locate Frelick whereverhe is, and above all, bring
back the day dun At buzz bomb. Yeah, that's it, You've got
your assignment. Good luck. TheNational Broadcasting Company is presenting Dangerous Assignment,
(04:48):
starring Brian Dunlevy as Steve Mitchell, colorful two fisted government agent. All those
places of the world where danger andintrigue walk hand in hand. There you'll
find Steve Mitchell another dangerous assignment.Sure, I've got my assignment, just
(05:11):
a simple matter of locating a guynamed Furlick who came to this country almost
five years ago and getting some buzzbomb plans away from him. On the
surface, it sounds just dandy, but there are a couple of little things
that occur to me real quick. In the first place, Furlick obviously doesn't
want to be found, and inthe second place, there's already been one
murder committed over those plans. Thatmeans I've got to try to prevent the
(05:31):
second one, namely my own.I head for the Immigration office and start
checking their files. Five hours later, I find a record of Furlick docking
at New York May thirteenth, nineteenforty six. I head for New York
to follow it up. The localoffice digs out the file for me,
and I find that Furlick listed ashis next of kin a cousin named Julius
(05:53):
Sachs in the Bronx. I copieddown the address and go over, Yeah,
Julius Snacks, Yeah, yeah,Hey, what happened to you?
Your face looks like you tangled witha meat grinder, set of yours?
Oh are you? Are? Youbetter take a look at my credentials?
(06:15):
I see? Come in please? Then what can I do for you?
Mister Mitchell? I'd like to talkto your cousin. My cousin, Yeah,
Frelick, But I'm afraid you're muchtoo late for that. You mean
he skipped down? No, Imean Fairlick. He's been dead for almost
five years. Yeah, he waskilled in a taphic accident the day after
his boat talked from you up.Oh great, there goes my one lead
(06:39):
uh huh, Let skip it.Look, did Frelick ever mentioned anything to
you about any valuable papers he had? No? You know, it's strange
that you two should ask this question. What do you mean me too?
You observe the condition of my face. But last night I was almost beaten
to death. Mike Highs I helpedo my attack away and saved my life?
Or was it? I do notknow. I've never seen him before,
(07:01):
a man with bulging eyes. Hekept asking me strange questions about Freley's
papers, questions which I was unableto answer. Brother, the sure not
losing any time. Look, Frelickmust have brought some luggage with him.
Yeah, a tongue I kept atthe attic for some time. You still
have it? No? Last monthI cleaned out the attic. When I
came to the tongue, I realizedI had misplaced the key, So I
(07:24):
sold the tongue to home or junkdealer. All fine, great chance,
I'll have a finding it now.But what could be so valuable about Freley's
tongue? It was empty? Areyou sure about that? Of course?
Fairly unpacked all of his clothes assoon as he arrived. What did you
do with his clothes after he waskilled. Oh, I gave them away.
(07:45):
That settles that. Of course thosepapers would be too bulky to hide
them in clothing. Anyway, whatpapers are these? Said? Everybody is
suddenly so interested in. Look,Julius, do you remember which junk dealer
you sold the drunk too? Oh? Yeah, copy is a dust down
if you like. I like, remember what the trunk looked like? Let
me see who head around the topas I remembered the blast bands. Not
(08:09):
much to go on, but I'llgive it a whirl. Mister Mitchell,
I still do not understand why thistunk is so important to Maybe it isn't,
Julius, but I won't know untilI find it. But this junk
dealer, he's undoubtedly sold the tongueby now. And to find one tunk
in a city as large as NewYork, Yeah, I know, Julius.
If I ever bet with odds thatheavy against me at the racetrack,
(08:31):
I'd be on relief trunks. Trunksif I got trunks, He asks,
mister, does a fish have scalesthat they've come with me? Hey?
Where are we going to the backroom? Here? You're gonna see trunks?
(08:54):
Oh? No, at least fiftyof them. Fifty two friends,
take your pick, two bucks each, three bucks with keys. Look the
one I'm interested in you bought abouta month ago from a guy named Julius
Sachs. You haven't remembered, mister. In my business is not the names
that count, it's the merchandise.Sack Schmax. Well, this merchandise had
(09:15):
a rounded cover and brass bands,an old baby. Huh. I don't
know. I get a lot likeit with it. I wait a minute,
you remember it? It seems tome I sold a trunk like that
about three weeks ago. Yeah, yeah, I remember now. I had
a couple of keys made for it, and I sold it to a doll
down in Greenwich Village. Let's see. Yeah, Alice Chambers. You didn't
(09:39):
remember names? Hey, mister yousee it, you'll remember her name too.
Ye. Happen to know where shelives in the village. Room and
house. I think she said, okay, thanks. Hey, wait,
wait a minute, so you comein here asking about trunks. I give
you a good price two bucks, three bucks with keys, and all your
fishing for is a dolls addres.Hey, you know this sort of thing
(10:01):
does not help me finding my career. Oh, gay career boy, here's
five bucks, have a couple oftrunks on me with keys. Yeah yeah,
here's another buck with keys. SoI head for Greenwich Village. I
know what I'm following is strictly ahunch, and I'm just hoping the hunch
doesn't turn into a wild goose tierSteve Mitchell government agent shagging around New York
(10:24):
after a beat up secondhand trunk kit. When I get to the village,
the usual array of characters are floatingaround. The gent on the curb carving
statues out of soap. A guywith hair down to his shoulder sawn away
at a fiddle the works. Inose around, inquiring about Alice Chambers.
Finally I learned that her rooming houseis just around the corner. I turned
the corner. Then I spot acrowd in front of the doorway, with
(10:46):
a couple of cops pushing them back. On the edge of the crowd stands
a tall, skinny gent wearing along black beard and a long white toga.
Excuse me, I'd like to getby. Ah, my friend,
you disappoint me. As I watchedyou approach, I thought, here is
a man of character. Surely hewill not stoop to this. Yet here
(11:09):
you are yielding to the same morbidcuriosity which is the common denominator of the
ignoramesis which our crafts and materialistic culturespews forth upon our sidewalks in ever increasing
multiple look saved the lecture, Professor, I do not remember making your acquaintance.
Yet you seem familiar with the titlewhich my earnest but unfortunately too few
students have bestowed upon me just psychic. I guess what's going on anyway,
(11:33):
merely another unfortunate instance of man's inhumanityto man? Will you skip the double
talk? Hey? Does Alice Chamberslive in this rooming house? A very
profound question, my friend? What'sso profound about it? A question which
has occupied the minds of philosophers andtheologians for centuries. Whither doth the soul
take flight from the body's soul?Body? Hey, wait a minute,
(11:54):
what are you talking about this,Alice cham What about it? It would
appear that sometime during the course ofthe night she was murdered, so all
of a sudden the trails heating upfast. Now I know my huns was
right that the trunk is pretty importantit means just one thing, a false
(12:16):
bottom, and in the secret compartmentthe plans for the buzz bond. I
shall pass the Professor into the roominghouse and check with the police. We
give Alice Chambers Room a fast frisk, but no trunk. That puts me
right back where I started from, which is nowhere. I turned to leave,
but out in the hall I spotthe Professor toga and all heading for
the next room. I catch upwith him at the door. Oh,
(12:37):
my friend of the morbid curiosity.Yeah, and speaking of same, I
noticed you were right there in thecrowd taking it all in, Professor I,
Sir, I am a spectator oflife. You will live here next
door to Alice Chambers room. Asyou see, it is a numble abode,
but it serves me. After all, life is of the mind.
Not Yeah, look, i'd likea little information you have. Indeed,
(13:00):
he'd come to the right man,my friend. Or yes, to some
it is given to build things. To others it is given to tear them
down. But to me has beengranted the highest function, that of spreading
a little views the better word,Professor Sir ask Kevin. Yes, yes,
as I was saying, if Ican but momentarily pierce the black cloud
(13:22):
of ignorance with the pure light ofknowledge. Then I feel that this humble
life shall not have been leaved invain. Then how about piercing my ignorance?
If it were not for one thing, I would be delighted, sir,
Oh, what do you mean?Well, I unfortunately suffer from a
delicate condition of the throat. Toimpart information, I am required to speak
(13:43):
at length. This has a tendencyto dry out the sensitive throat membranes.
And thus I get it. Iget it. Okay, is there a
bar around here? A strange thatyou should ask? Because there does happen
to be a delightful place, buta few paces down the block a haven
whether weary traveler may find refuge andrefreshment. Now that's the fanciest description of
(14:03):
a saloon I've ever heard. Butcome on, let's go. I am
afraid that is quite impossible at themoment, my frame. Why now?
Look, Indeed, for me tostir from this very spot at the moment
would be to defy various laws ofphysics. And of course there is the
matter of modesty also, honesty.Look, what are you talking about?
(14:24):
Boil it? Down. Well, you very well to reduce it to the
vernacular. You are standing on mytoga. So this is the quiet haven
for the weary traveler, is itnot delightful? Professor? I've got to
(14:46):
hand it to you. You've gota great imagination. Now, look,
are your tonsils oiled up enough? So you can tell me a few things?
I shall strive bravely between libations.Of course, what would you like
to know? Didn't Alice Chambers havea visitor last night? Yes? What
time? Shortly after dinner? Didyou see him go into a room in
(15:09):
a manner of speaking? Yes,you knew him quite well. Well,
who was it? Myself? What? It was my custom to call on
her to exchange a few pleasantries atthe close of the day. Oh,
great, Calo, that's not whatI mean. Did you see anybody else
near her room? No? Well, I guess that's that. Of course,
(15:31):
the rather questionable looking exoft palmic individualwho asked me for directions to a
room later in the evening might havebeen somebody who would know. I will
wait a minute, let's have thatagain. I was taking my usual evening
stroll a short xoft a reduce itto the vernacular. Were you very well.
His eyes protruded slightly. Oh,it could be the same Buttonnight,
(15:52):
gentle who slugged Frelick's cousin Julius SacksFrayley, Julius Sacks. I'm afraid I
have not had the pleasure of thecapital piece. So button Eyes was trying
to find Alice Chambers look like afounder, all right, and killed her.
Well, it still doesn't help memuch. He obviously got the trunk.
So trunk I used to belong toa gent named Frelick. His cousin
(16:14):
Julius sold it to a junk dealerwho peddled it to Alice Chambers. And
how five will get you ten?Button Eyes has it and I'm too late.
Oh, but I assure you thatis quite impossible. What do you
mean, Well, it is awell established law of physics that an object
cannot be in two places at one. I still don't get you. How
could your exoptomic friend have possession ofthe trunk when Alice Chambers sold it five
(16:36):
days ago? Sold it? Youknow, Professor, trying to get information
out of you. It is likeriding the merry go round. I have
to go three laps each time beforeI grabbed the brass ring a colorful analogy.
Dallas solitude, a friend of hers, a dancer named Yvette dallet dancer
in a manner of speaking, youknow where if that is I do good,
(16:56):
give me an address. I'll runover and talk to her. Oh,
but I feel that would be quiteimpossible. To run over and talk
to Yvette would be to defy severallaws of tabel and start that again.
Where is Evette? Four days ago? She left for London? London?
Oh, brother, this is reallyturning into an obstacle race. Okay,
(17:17):
professor, thanks, we finally madeit. The pleasure was all mine,
sir. It has been a moststimulating conversation. I hope that we may
look forward to another one. Jersuresometime when I've got three hours to kill
and I want to find out whatday it is, I'll be around.
(17:37):
I grabbed the next plain for London. When I arrived, I checked the
newspapers and finally find the name ofthe theater where a Vette is dancing.
It's in the seemi section of thisset in. When I get inside,
I realized why the professor said shewas a ballet dancer. In a manner
of speaking, I slipt around backstagewhile she's doing her dance and find her
(17:57):
dressing room. But there's no trunk, so it looks like button Eyes is
still ahead of me. I turnedto go out. Then I see something
hurtling through the air at me,a flat iron. I dropped to one
knee and it sails passed me intothe mirror. Hey, hey, you're
so ah Hello Evett, what isthis Grand Central Station? I'm sorry to
(18:18):
bart into your dressing room like this, but look, I'm getting a little
tired of this routine. Right twicealready today there have been guys snooping around
my room twice. Yeah. Wait, was one of them a short guy
with button eyes? I don't know. I didn't get a decent look at
either of them, but it's afriends of yours. You tell them for
me that I don't like exactly friendsof mine. Event here, you'd better
take a look at MI credentials.Oh so you're a government agent, but
(18:42):
I still don't see why you're snoopingaround my dressing room. I'm looking for
the trunk Alice Chambers sold you backin the States last week. Oh that
highlanded to Joe Phoenie the night beforelast. Whoever he is, he's my
boyfriend. He's with the Flying Phoenisacrobats. Oh I see, well where
are they acrobating? Denmark? Oh? Brother, this trunk is really good
(19:03):
legs. Thanks, But what's withthe trunk anyway? Look? The junk
dealer back in New York told methat he'd had two keys made for the
trunk. Yeah, Alice gave meboth of them when she sold me the
trunk. You still got him?Sure, one of them. I gave
the other one to Joe when Iled him the trunk. Well, I
guess my next stop is a FlyingPhoenees in Denmark. Now look these two
characters that you saw snooping around yourdressing room earlier. Yeah, you think
(19:26):
they would have any way of knowingthat the trunk is in Denmark? Now?
How could they if I don't evenknow them or know who they are?
And it looks like I'm when jumpahead of button eyes for a Chaine.
But I still don't get who theother Snooper could be. I still
don't get what's so hot about thattrunk? I hold it? What's the
matter? Quiet? What stopped me? As a slight sound outside the dressing
(19:48):
room. I he's over to thedoor and jerk it open. Then I
spot a little guy scrambling away. There's enough light to tell me it's button
eyes. I take after him,but he pops behind some of the flats
backstage, and when I get there, he's gone. I scar the whole
backstage area, but there's no sightof him. Finally, I give up
start heading back to a vet's dressingroom, and then suddenly I hear something
swishing through the air. I lookup. A sandbag is hurtling down at
(20:11):
me. I dived to one side, but it takes advancing blow on the
side of the head sends me downfor the count. You are listening to
Dangerous Assignment, starring Brian don Levyas Steve Mitchell. Steve Steve, Oh
(20:45):
is that Steve. You're lucky thatsand bag it hits you square away.
My head feels right now. Itcouldn't have made much difference. Believe me,
the guy you were chasing got awin. Yeah, he's got a
head start on me again. Incidentplay. You mind telling me where you
were when that sandbag dropped on mein my dressing room. You're sure about
that, of course, I'm surewhy skip it, brother, This head
(21:08):
of mine will probably be throbbing louderthan the engines on that plane. What
plane? Oh, when I'm takingto Denmark to talk to the flying Phoenix,
they're flying Phoenies. This is anact. It is a catastrophe.
(21:29):
Oh, their act doesn't stop theshow. Look, all I know is
that when I arrived here in Denmark, I learned that you'd booked them here
at your theater, and I wantto talk to them. You are wrong
when you say that act does notstop to show, mister Mitchell, it
stopped mine cold. With the flyingPhoenix, I could not draw flying.
I still want to talk to I. Wait a minute, are you trying
to say that they're not here anymore? They lasted just one performance. Then
I gave them as you say, they hammer. Oh great, so now
(21:52):
I'm on the merry ground again. You wouldn't happen to know where they're playing
now, such an act as this, you would not pay. Don't to
your worst enemy. So so Ipeddled him to my worst enemy. Oh,
Max Kruber, he runs a travelingcarnival. I have never forgotten the
so called talking dog heat booked heonce. Where is his Carnival. Now
some man Holland. I think ifthe Flying Phoenies haven't put him out of
(22:15):
business yet, so I hopped downto Holland. So far this deal has
been strictly a six day bicycle racewith Button I is always one lap ahead
of me. Now I've got somebodyelse to worry about. The other guy
that they've got said was snooping aroundin her dressing room in London. I
start checking in Holland for the Phoenies, and at this point it wouldn't surprise
(22:37):
me to see him swinging on thenearest windmill. Well four hours later I
locate the Traveling Carnival in Rotterdam.I find their tent and I go inside,
and there, at last are theFlying Phoenees in front of me,
racked up in a pyramid, practicingtheir active quite a pyramid, which one
of you is, Joe Phoenie.I am here on the bottom. Hey,
(22:57):
Henry, that's my backbone. Sowhat do you want from me?
So I'll get up on my shoulder. Although what can I do for you?
Oh? My name's Mitchell, agovernment agent from the States. Where
is that trunk you borrowed from you? Bet in London. I don't see
it around this tent anywhere. It'sover the hotel room to falling. Have
you got a key to the trunk? Short? Right here in my pocket?
(23:18):
Joy, I'm sorry, gentlemen.I step over the sprawling fian He
hasn't head to their hotel room intown. The room is dark. I
start to search for the light switch, but before I can make it,
something awfully hard connects over my leftear, and, for the second time
(23:38):
in twenty four hours, I takea dive about this character. He wants
to come over the room to lookat the trunk, so I'll let him
on. What happens? Oh,Joe Phoeney. I thought there was something
fishy about him in London. Joe, what are you doing here in Holland?
(24:00):
I decided to come over and soupup the act a little pretty convenient
time for you to arrive. Whatdo you mean? This is a second
time I've gotten conked on the head, and both times when I come out
of it, there's a little event. Hey, look, don't change the
subject, buddy. If you've gotany private little murders to commit, that's
your business. But I don't liketo using my room for him there.
What are you talking about? Forinstance, that corpse over there in the
(24:21):
corner. Hey? Wait, SoI finally caught up with Button Eyes,
and from the looks of that knifein his back, I'd say I was
about four inches too late. LikeI say, buddy, if you had
it in for the guy, welland good. But just hold it a
minute, buddy, I don't seethat trunk in this room anywhere I should
(24:41):
be in a closet. Yeah, here it is all right, but I'm
too late again. The trunks openand empty, including the false bottom,
false bottom. What are you talkingabout? I'd surprise you event why shouldn't
it. Hey, look, Idon't know what this is all about.
So did you keep this tru locked? Well? Yeah, what's matter?
(25:03):
If the lock on this trunk hadbeen picked, it'd probably be a few
small scratches on the metal around it. So there aren't any scratches. That
means the trunk was probably opened witha key. What are you getting that?
I'll start from the beginning of that. Button Eyes was after the trunk
right from the start. He knewwhat was in that false bottom. But
it's beginning to look right now likesomebody else's dealt himself for herself into the
(25:23):
deal. Along the way somebody whofigured that whatever was in the trunk must
be pretty valuable. I still don'tsee what that's got to do with the
keys. I'm coming to that phoene. This trunk originally belonged to a gent
named Freelick. His cousin, JuliusSacks, lost the key in New York,
so he sold the trunk to ajunk dealer who had two more keys
made. Alice Chambers gave you bothkeys when she sold you the trunk.
(25:44):
Eve Sure she did. Joe heregave me one of the keys a little
while ago, but you've still gotthe other key, and that sort of
puts the finger on Noah. Waita now, look, buddy, Evett
couldn't have killed this guy. Shewas with me when we discovered you here
on the floor. Just now, well, the two of you could be
working together. I know you're talkinglike you've got a hole in your head.
I told you there was a secondguy snooping around my dressing room in
(26:06):
London. He's probably the one you'reacting. Yeah, you're sure there was
a second guy? Yeah? Ordid you dream up that story for a
good cover? Now? Look Iheard in London that Joe and his act
weren't doing so hot, so Icame over here to join him, figuring
them maybe I could help. Assoon as my plane landed, I came
right here to the hotel. ThenI ran into Joe and the lobby just
as he was coming upstairs to theroom. So even if I knew what
(26:30):
this was all about, I couldn'thave had time to knife that guy and
take whatever was in the bottom ofthat trunk. Okay, then maybe you're
telling me the truth, and maybeyou're lying. Right now, I'm going
to find out which. I pickup the phone and check with the airport
and the desk clerk downstairs, andmy case against Vette falls right on its
(26:51):
face. She didn't get to thehotel until after I'd gotten hit over the
head, and the same host truefor Joe Fini too, So now I'm
fresh out of leeds. Then awild idea hits me. I start thinking
of a character back in New York. I put through a call to the
commissioner back in the States and tellhim what I want him to check.
A half hour later, he callsme back, and what he says doesn't
surprise me. Looks like you're hadthe right hunch. Team. We found
(27:12):
out that he left for Europe rightafter you did. Looks like he's been
on your tail all the way.Yeah, he finally caught up with me
and Button I is here in thehotel room. I think he's got I
will get your Tenny has idea wherehe is. Probably wait until the next
plane out of here. I seeyou later, Commissioner, Joe, you
got a car outside? Yeah, warm it up. I'm going to call
(27:33):
the airport to check on some departingplanes. Are you going somewhere, and
I want to make sure that somebodyelse isn't either. Hey, Mitchell,
there's a plane over it I gettingready to take off. Yeah, that's
probably what I'm after. Thanks forthe lift, Joe. Hey, passengers
(27:57):
still getting on looking for me?Mitchell? Why ah, hello Julius.
Yeah. As a matter of fact, I was. I thought you might
be, so it seemed better forme to find you. I feel much
safer with my gun in your bank. Maybe less to say you've got those
buzz bomb plans in your satchel.Error, But if FoST come on,
(28:17):
We're still on the corner of thebuilding. Okay, sure, all figures.
Julius, you didn't realize your cousin'strunk was so valuable and told button
Eyes beat you up trying to findout where it was. Then you decided
to follow it up yourself. Youcaught up with button Eyes in the hotel
room and killed them. And Iam quite certain these plans I took from
the tongue and be sold to interestedparties at a very fat pace. Yeah,
(28:41):
this is far enough, Mitchell. When the shadows now, and with
the noise of their plane engines,I doubt that one small shot from this
automatic would even be It was akey that pegged to Julius, if I
had one, I had the other. Then I remembered you telling me that
you'd lost the original key. Bythat time, I had also realized the
tongue must be of considerable value,of Mitchell, you should hardly expect me
(29:03):
to reveal that I still have underthe key which redly Julius, Mitchell,
My plane is taking off momentary nowthey get it. I must terminate our
little conversation right now. His gunjam's harder against my back, and I
know that he's going to pull thetrigger any second. Now. Then I
remember what he said a minute ago. The gun is an automatic that gives
(29:25):
me an idea, A real longshot, but my only chance. Suddenly
I throw my weight backward, drivinghim against the wall behind him. The
gun is wedged between my back andhis chest. I screamed backward, keeping
the pressure on the muzzle with myback. An automatic won't fire when the
slide is pushed back from me.Mitchell Off tries to shove me forward,
but I braced myself. I knowthat the instant the pressure is hid and
off the gun, it will fire. I start sweating. I can't keep
(29:47):
the pressure on much longer. Myfeet are slipping on the concrete. Suddenly
I raised one of them and lethim have a heel in the shins his
hold on the gun for an instant, just long enough. I bend over,
reached back between my legs, grabhis foot and the jack. At
four, the slut whistles over myback and Julian's head plunks back into the
wall. I'll take the gun now, Julius say, yeah, I guess
(30:10):
that wall must be pretty hard, all right, but you've got no kicks
coming. What do you mean, after all, you had meat bucking a
stone wall all the way in thisdeal, I'm just returning the compliment The
hard Way. Oh. Dangerous Assignment, starring Brian don Levy as Steve Mitchell,
(30:33):
is written by Bob Rife and AdrianChando and music by Robert arm Brewster,
and is produced and directed by BillKarne. Be with us again next
week at the same time when Briandon Levy, starring in the role of
Steve Mitchell, will embark on anotherdangerous Assignment. Dangerous Assigned and came to
(31:00):
you from Hollywood from More Mystery.Stay tuned for the Man called X on
NBC Welcome Back. I have toadmit I'm a little dubious about the premise
because the idea that the Nazis hadcooked up some updated buzz bomb that would
(31:29):
have been of interest on the worldstage nearly six years after the fall of
Berlin. It seems a bit farfetched given all of the weapons research that
was being done by both sides inthe Cold War. But nevertheless, it
was justin mcguffin for a really solidadventure. I love these sort of tales
(31:52):
where Steve is sent globe trotty, and it really takes advantage of everything that
you can do over radio in termsof shifts of SETTI or a couple of
things. I was kind of annoyedthat they didn't actually name the section of
(32:13):
London that Steve went to. Ithink it was probably the East End.
I would have given it maybe alittle touch more of authenticity given how little
time they spent in London. Iwas kind of questioning a little some of
the things that the Acrobat Act wasstruggling with, But then again I remembered
(32:34):
how bad they were described as being, so I guess that was fine.

(34:04):
same. It's a deal. Actually, I got nothing here, but at
the repair shack up the line tofind out something. Seems that mister Jenkins,
the railroad president, was there whenor Injine ninety six pulled into the
repair shop. He left when theninety six pulled in started to walk up
the line. A little while laterin ninety six and the train it was
pulling followed mister Jenkins. Of course, the guy in the repair shop didn't
(34:25):
think anything about it. No,Nah, he figured text was given it
a little extra workout or something.Next thing, he remembers the engine and
the train. We're backing up tothe station again, and you forgot about
the whole thing till I questioned him, really well, Heath, what do
you think it all means? Nothing? Right? Yet it doesn't. What
does it mean to you? Vent, I'd say it meant nothing to me
(34:46):

Jenkins. I hope you'll be withus then. In the meantime, do
