Dangerously Yours was a half hour show sponsored by Vicks. There were sixteen episodes broadcast in 1944, with eleven of them available to collectors today. Each episode seemed to star Victor Jory as the leading man, and concentrated heavily on romance, with much airtime being devoted to lovers murmuring sweet nothings at each other, and the action and adventure being relegated to backdrop status. At the end of each episode, the announcer would give a very brief teaser for the following week's show.

Vix presents Dangerously Yours, a halfhour of romance and adventure starring Victor Jory
in God's Country and the Woman YouKnow. More and more millions of people
are using vix Atron all nosdrops torelieve distress of head calls, benefit by
their experience and now dangerously yours.I am adventurer in my name, men

(00:35):
of Travis, the highways, thebyways, the skyways of the world.
I am the fire that burns inthe heart of youth, that makes men
dream and dare and conquer. Iam dangerously yours. They follow me to
the great Canadian Northland, meet oneof the gallant adventurers of fiction, of

(00:57):
two fisted fighting men who steps fromthe pages of Odd Country, and the
Woman. If coming events could actuallycast their shadows before, I would have
known the answer in the end andthe solution to the whole problem the first

(01:18):
time I heard their cry yes,I would have known that the answer was
there square in the teeth of fortyAlaskan huskies, animals more wolf than dog.
They were part of the threat inthe wildness of God's Country, Animals

(01:40):
that knew but one authority, TheGirl of God's Country, Josephina Dair.
I met her late one summer afternoon. I was headed for Montreal after eighteen
months. Far above the Artic Circle, I came around the bend of a
lake, and there she was,Josephina Dair. Her copper colored hair touched
the sunlight, and behind her thebirches, the blue sky and the snow,

(02:05):
and the phrase I had known allmy life became rooted and full of
meaning. No country as God's countrywithout a woman, and here, without
a bit of warning, was theone woman in the world for me.
I knew it instantly. Well, say, well, for what in the

(02:25):
world are you doing here? Ithought you were someone else. Oh wait,
wait, wait just a minute, where are you going? What are
you doing out here? I liveacross the lake. I'll have to come.
No, please, please, don'tgo. I've been looking for you
for a long time, looking forme. You mean you know who I
am. Oh no, I wasspeaking strictly from the heart. I've been

(02:46):
up in the Artic and I'm justcoming down. I haven't seen a white
woman in two years, and soyou can't blame me for being a bit
enthusiastic, can you. No?Perhaps not, Gosh, you're beautiful.
I used to do a lot ofthinking about a girl like you up there,
but I never thought i'd find one. I think you'd say that to
any woman you met right at thismoment. I might, but I wouldn't

(03:07):
say it to any woman. You'rethe kind of a girl that belongs in
my particular scheme of things, Agirl that looks well against a lake in
a northern sky. And hey, hey, hey, wait a minute,
what are you crying about. Oh? I'm sorry. I didn't mean to
frighten you. I'm not frightened.I just, oh, I don't know.

(03:30):
It isn't important. What's your name, Josephina dare well, Josephina Dear,
My name is Philip Wayman. Issomething wrong? Is there anything I
can do or help you? No? I thought for a moment that you
might help me. But I can'task you. I simply can't ask you.
Why can't you ask me? Whodo you want killed? Oh?

(03:53):
Look, i'd i'd really like tohelp you. Maybe I can. What's
the trouble? Tell me about it? I can't. Oh, now,
listen, sister, and can't beanything that bad. It's hard to believe
that a girl who looks as fineand honest as you, as fine as

(04:14):
honest as you are, and beingtoo deep. But I don't let me
help you. You don't know whatyou're letting yourself in for. You might
have to fight for me, andyou might have to fight for your own
life without knowing why, and you'dnever find out the truth or the reason
in a thousand years. Okay,I still want to help you. What
do I do? What would yousay if if I asked you to become

(04:36):
my husband for a month? Amonth, I'll take that on for a
lifetime. No, seriously, Iwant you to come with me to my
home. I want you to pretendto be my husband for one month,
and at the end of that month, my problem will be solved. And
then you must go away and nevercome back. And I'll tell all the
people who have met yourth it youmet your death in the forest. I

(04:57):
think I'd rather marry you and live. That can never happen, all right,
Josephine, You're a nice kid,and you're in trouble, and I
always did have an eye for alady in distress. I'm yours for a
month, but you can't blame mefor hoping them before the month is over.
I can make you fall in lovewith me. If I did fall
in love with you, it wouldstill have to end in the same way.

(05:17):
I'm telling you that very frankly andhonestly. Are you still willing to
help? Will you do it myway? Yes? I still want to
help, and I'll do it yourway. Look. Look, there's a
canoe cutting across the lake towards us. Frenzy yours. Oh it's Jean Corsey,

(05:40):
my good friend. He's come forme. Please will you leave me
here alone? There are some thingsI must discuss with him. But tonight
i'll be ready to return home.Would you meet us here at Moonrise?
Yes, I'll be here. Thankyou for your understanding, Thank you for
your trust. Met you women,Yes, I'm Jean Crossy. Josephine is

(06:13):
waiting for us in the canoe. We are ready to go. If you
are, I'm ready. There issomething I must say for you, Missieu.
Josephine trusts you are not many men. She would for us, for
she has placed it with you.In your action. Now lies life or
death for you, depending on yourloyalty to her. I won't you you
will be a man in the middle, you will want to kill you.
Yeah, theven people who wanted tokill me before. I don't kill easy.

(06:38):
Very well, missieur. Come on. We started off across the lake,
Josephine and Jean Cross and I.The lake was silver with moonlight and
stars that were like a silver frostingon the sky. And skimming across the

(07:00):
glassy smoothness of the lake into mysteryand unknown danger. I was full of
determination to solve the mystery and winthe girl, or die in the attempt.
Philip, you're so quiet? Whatare you thinking? I was thinking
of you? You know, I'mbeginning to be sorry that I asked for
your hair. You're going to hateme when you reach Adare House this afternoon.

(07:24):
That didn't matter, or at leastI thought it didn't. It doesn't
matter now, Yes, yes,it does matter. Now. It matters
so much that suddenly my my heartis like ice. Josephine, I love
you. Don't you understand that whateverI find that Adare House will make no

(07:45):
difference. I wish I could believethat, Philip, I wish I could
believe that. Tell me what iswrong, Let me try to help you,
Let me try to find a solution. Let me try to find the
answer. There is no real solution. There is no answer, But the

(08:11):
answer was there. The answer wasthere the moment we beat the canoe.
Although not one of the three ofus sensed it, the answer came storming
out of the night to greet us. Hello, boy, did you miss
me? Down? Major don estboy? Down? Oh down? But
if this is Captain my lead dog, put your hand on his head.

(08:33):
I went in to know you.Hello, Hello, Captain, old boy.
Forty savage dogs that would snap abone like a twig leapt about her,
reaching up to lick her face inher hands, and she stood surrounded
by shaggy heads and gleaming fangs. She was completely without fear. She loved
them, and they knew it.We left the pack of dogs with Young.

(08:54):
It had begun to snow as wewalked towards the house, and once
there, I'm giving knew this room, Philip, thank you. Excuse me
while I speak to my servants.I'll only be a few minutes. I
sat down on the edge of thebed, looking about the room. Something
grew my gaze to the window, and my blood chilled. But there was

(09:16):
a face clasped against the pane aface dark and sinister, with eyes that
shone and gritted like a beast,a face filled with hate, with there
was almost madness. And the facewas out of Jean Pisay. And then
his hand came up, rubble withhis eyes, and then his hand was
a pistol. I stood there, frozen for an instant, and then before
I could move, Josephine entered. The face disappeared as quickly as a cane,

(09:37):
and then in the distance, listen, Philip sets Joe Bunny's dog to
him. I know the cry ofthe lead dog. He's bringing my father
and stepmother. Come with me quickly. There's something I want to tell you,
something I must show you before theyarrive. I hope they wouldn't be
coming so soon, but since theyhave come, we must meet the situation
immediately. A guys, what acute baby. He isn't very well.

(10:03):
He's had a touch of fever. He's my little boy, Philip, two
years old. Now do you understand, yes, now I understand this is
to be my son. Yes,you if you wish to change your mind,
if you hate me, now thatyou know, it's all right,
Philip, I wouldn't blame you,Oh, Will you look at that little

(10:26):
beggar holding onto my finger. Ah, he and I are going to get
on great together, Ain't darned ifhe doesn't even look like me a little
bit. Your father and stepmother theydon't know about him. Noo, they've
they've been away. My father's benlThis is the first time he's been home
in more than two years. Mystepmother went to Montreal to see him,

(10:48):
and they were married there. Iwrote them about the baby. There wasn't
anything else to do. I toldhim I had married a man named Philip
Darcambo. If my father knew thetruth, the real name of the baby's
father, I think you would killme. Is that the danger you thought
was so terrible? No, that'sthe reason for the danger, but not

(11:09):
the danger it's gonna be. Oh, I know, all right, Take
it easy. Come along and introduceme to my father and my mother in
law. Do you hate me now, No, darling, I love you,
and I don't believe one word you'vesaid about this baby. There's a
reason for all this, and Iintend to find it out. You'll never
find out anything more than you knowright now. My problem has no answer.

(11:33):
There is always an answer. Comeon, honey, I'm going to
like my father in law. Ican tell by his voice. Darling,
I'm so glad to see well,my dear, you look like a picture,
doesn't she Miriam, she looks PUTIfor father. This is Philip.

(11:54):
How do you do, sir?I'm Maddy pleased to meet you, Philip.
Miriam, this is Philip, mystepmother, Philip. How do you
do? How do you do?Could we see the baby now, Josephine,
Why of course he's right here, right here in my room. Sane.
Now, isn't that's something? Hey? I hold him jest for a

(12:18):
moment, just for one moment. Why of course? Of course Miriam.
Neither John Adare or Miriam could taketheir eyes off that baby. And there
was something in Miriam's face when shereached out her arms for the baby that
made you want to weep. Ileft them there and went back to my
room. I had left the lampburning, but now the room was dark,

(12:39):
and a cold wind swept through itfrom an open window. I lit
the lamp and then the shot camethrough the window and hit my arm.
I was so mad I hardly feltthat I jumped through the window and ran
through the snow. I could seea man dotting in out of the trees
ahead. I followed him. AsI ran, I could hear him shouting
to his dogs, and then Iwas upon him. I've taken enough for
you, cross fool a, yeah, are you dirty rotten snakes? Do

(13:03):
healthy the fight, seria, dothat every time to fight with fish bushire
a, sir, sirr wich herewith the blondeed. Some one he's coming.
Thora will return and we will fightthis out some other day when I
have more came in just a moment, we will bring you the second act

(13:37):
of God's Country and the Woman Friends. Here's some timely advice. Folks everywhere

Vic's vatronal. When you put afew drops of this specialized medication in each
nostril, you can feel it stockto work instantly, bringing relief right where

(14:24):

jorre in God's Country and the womanif Quake. We have everyone in the

(14:58):
house out here crazily, won't youHe's not bad hurt? Oh that devil
sorrow? Missieu, Missieu, you'vevery bad blue and the head every swallow
of brandy. I don't need yourbrandy, Quasi. Let's finish the fight.
Fight, miss yes, you're readyto fight. A moment ago,

(15:20):
I wasn't not fighting. I justfound you. I hear captain howling from
the house. I come out tosee what was the met he I found
your A liar. I thought youlooking through my window with a gun in
your hand, and then you cameback later and tried to kill me.
When I looked the lion. ButI have not been near your windows.
Tell you I saw you. Oneface looks very like I know they're looking
through the window in the dark.I tell you one mistake. You must
believe me. Yeah, And whodid shoot at me? Do you know?

(15:46):
I think I know? And tellme I cannot tell you. If
I did, it might mean ruinfor everyone in the house, because that
there would go after the man whenhe come face to face with him,
it would bring the world crashing abouthis ears. And I'll go after the
man myself and kill him. No, no, not yet, not yet.
We're a gang to deal with, not just one man. I'm only
interested in one man, the manthat shot at me through the window,

(16:07):
the father of that baby. Whydo you say it is the father of
the baby? I just feel it, that's all. I'm going after him
and find out, and then I'mgoing to kill him. That's the only
way to deal with a man likethat. That's the only answer. Jographine,

(16:29):
where are you going, darling? You shouldn't be out of beer.
I'm going to see one of theneighbors children that's sick. I'm taking some
medicine to No, dear, youmustn't go out of this time. We've
got to there's no one else togo, and the child might die.
I feel all right, just alittle banged up, that's all. I
was so frightened last night. Youmight have been killed, Philip. I've
been thinking this over, and I'vedecided that you must leave. It isn't

(16:51):
fearful me to endanger your life.Oh no, you don't. I'm seeing
this thing through. I have apersonal squatter settle now, you see.
I don't like being hit over thehead with a rifle. But and you
know something, I heard a namelast night or dreamt that. I hadn't
know which, but it keeps goingaround and around inside my head. And
that name was I see, youknow the name? Yes, I know

(17:14):
the name. Who is he?He's the leader of a band of murderers
and thieves. He's a terrible mentalHi the baby's father too, Isn't he?
Isn't he? I thought that wasit? Do you love it?
I despise him? Did you everlove him? That? I've told you
that it is? I know, but I don't believe. You agreed not
to ask questions, You agreed tohelp me and go. I told you
you'd never understand all, but Joewas taken. I'm beginning to understand a

(17:36):
lot of things, and before I'mthrough, I'll understand a good deal more.
Well, if I don't want yourhelp anymore, please will you go
and let me fight this out alone? No? I will not. Then
you'll be forcing me to go toThorough. That is ridiculous. Happens to
be true. Who is the motherof that baby? Please? Please not
so loud, Josephine, you wantyour father to hear you. I'm sorry,
Maria, Philip, there's no pointin continuing this discussion you. You

(17:56):
don't seem surprised of what I've beensaying, Miriam. Miriam knows about the
baby, Philip. I told herin the name of Heaven. Is there
anyone who doesn't know. John knows, Miriam knows. Thorough knows. My
father doesn't know. If he didn'tknow the truth, I think it would
kill him. Yes, that's thewhole point, isn't it. Your father
Your father must not know. Youhave a rather understanding father, Josephine.

(18:21):
My father loves Thorough. He'd neverunderstand for a moment. Why are you
looking so frightened, Miriam? What'swrong? Nothing? I'm just so afraid,
John, Philip, if you wantto come with me, come on,
I have to get started, allright, darling, all right,

(18:47):
we've been running for overall. Wehave to stop anyhow. There's a lug
across the road. That's a wonderfulday, isn't that the sun of the
snow in the sky? And you'llbeside me. Say, if your name
was not Josephine at there, ifit was Mary Smith and you had no
problems, what would you say tome at this moment? I suppose I
would say, I love you,but we'd better hurry home because the children

(19:11):
will be hungry, and I haveto start dinner, And I'd say,
I wonder if Johnny got in thejam again, Josephine, I was trying
to be gay, but I justcan't see the manage it. Do you
know how much I love you?Have you got any idea at all?
I think I know how much Ilove you. You've never said that before,

(19:36):
Philip. I'm only seeing it nowbecause I know I'm never going to
see you again. It seems onlyfree to tell you that I loved you
the first moment I saw you,and I think I'll continue to love you
as long as I live. Whatdo you mean you're never going to see
me again? I've decided what todo, Philip. I think I've known
all along that I had to doit, but somehow I kept fighting and

(19:59):
hoping, and now I know itisn't any use. Oh Philip, I've
only admit you a long time ago. What are you going to do?
I'm going to go to thorough Ohno, you're not. You're going to
marry me. I'll never let yougo now, Monsieur's bnsie. We meet

(20:22):
again. I do not bother totry anything. As you see, you
are one man over there. Yousee we are thirty. Oh pardon,
I have not introduced myself, don'tFather thorall? Thank you for looking after
my Josephine for me. I willtake her off your ends and I'll kill
you for this. You are veryamusing. I like your spirit. Don't

(20:45):
they'll kill you. You haven't gota chance. You're a great fighter,
for all. You really like fairsport. Don't you like shook shooting at
a man frow a window and knockhim over the head of a rifle.
What's the matter with you? Areyou afraid of skinning your knuckles? I
can do things without skinning man nickers. There has never been a man that
has defied me or disobeyed me thatthere's lived to break about it. I

(21:06):
have not time to stand you're arguingwith you? Take care of you more.
It was almost dark when I regainedconsciousness, and the sledge was still
beside me. But two of thedogs were dead, and four I haven't

(21:26):
liven cut loose because they were gone. I staggered to my feet, biting
nasty and blackness that kept sweeping upon me. I was snowing again,
and the snow swirled and pressed againstme, and the wind tore her.
Sometimes I walked, and sometimes Icrawled on my hands and knees. It
seems centuries before I saw the lightof the house. I fell up the

(21:48):
steps and into Jean's arms. Mischieumissieu, what is it, Josephine Jean
for Oh, they've carried her off, They carried her half huh, Come
on, come on, we gotto go to help. How many weathers
are? All? Said? Thirtyand get this sled? You can,
I swell, We're on our way. We will get help with you,
We will get help. Yeah, yeah, hell then yes, go Always

(22:19):
tell it off to city. Willyou come with us? I would come
at once. Isn't anyone home in? There is very many funny home?
What do you want? Balls carriedoff? Will you come with dirty swine?
You foot? I will come.We need your help. Tell a
let's telly dot your girl. Willyou come with us? Heoro, we's

(22:41):
taking the girl home with us.We reached Thor's cabin at dawn. We
had gathered twenty strong and angry men. We paused a moment at the foot
of the hill. They've seen aswell. Why are we with? Let
us go up and root them out. They can pick us off like flies.

(23:02):
We go up that hill. We'vegot to fight with caution, John,
you take ten of the men andleave me the rest of batter in
the door. You can cover thewindows with your fire while we rest the
door with one of those logs overthere. Wait, there is something I
would like to tell you. Imay die to day, or you may.
I feel you ever. I toknow you're going to tell me the
baby is Miriam's. Josephine told you, Oh, I guess Miriam. Mary

(23:25):
Thor thought she did three year ago. She found out you already had a
wife in Quebec. The baby wasborn here. Josephine's father was Zele in
Montreal. Miriam went down to seehim. Yes, go to marry him.
She did, and estra A dareknew nothing about the baby. Miriam
was afraid to tell him at first, and later it was too late.
Didn't tell Gatwine of it. Demandthat Josephine marry him he has always wanted.

(23:51):
He said he would tell her Daleeverything if she did not. Josephine
was in trouble all the way around. She had the baby. She knew
her father was come home, soshe decided to say baby was hers.
She would have been wiser to sayit was an orphan baby. I guess
she did not think of that. Now she's in the hands of herrow.
Well, she won't be for long, all right, man, let's go.

(24:15):
We saw the forward carrying the logabout it down the door. They
fired at us. One of mylord bar Us crumpled down without a moan.
Instantly, someone sprang forward and tookhis place twenty yards more, and
a second stagged out of line andsank on the snow. We were only
a hundred feet from the door now, but without a rock or a stump
between us and death. Another manfell, and then a four and a
fifth, but nothing could stop us. Now fifty feet forty thirty another man

(24:37):
down, and behind us Johnny's menwere firing. And then the door.
We broke it down. Then wewere in the middle of a fight.
Somehow we fought away out of thehouse. We were greatly outnumbered. It
was every man for himself. NowI saw a man after man go down,
and suddenly I realized that we mustlose us, that Josephine was lost.
And then I heard a sound, and I heard Jographine answer, sounds

(25:06):
so close are the angry, threateningwar of her own dog pack. Following
the tailor abductors had made, theyhad a close Now they're an angry gray
hord, moving to the speed ofthe wind. And suddenly they thought of
a parson of the opening down beforethem. They were no match for the
dog's anger. They came with alife for having for both. Well,

(25:36):
you're free, Chosephine. Yes,it was a terrible thing, but they
were terrible men, and they hadit coming for a long time. That
thing you said I would never guessin a thousand years, I've guessed at
Chosephine, But you'll forget it.Yes, I'll forget it on one condition.

(25:57):
Are you going to practice blackmail too? Just once and then never again.
I'll forget it if you'll marry me. You still want me after all
the grief and trouble I've caused you. I never stopped wanting you for a
moment. I never will, you, See, I want to stay up

(26:18):
here and live the rest of mylife, and I can't get a certain
phrase out of my mind makes alot of sense. What is that something
I remembered when I first saw you? No country is God's country without a
woman? Will you marry me,missus Darcambole, Yes, mister Darkambo,

(26:42):
I'll marry you. Is it allright with you? Captain? And now

(27:15):
