(00:21):
we're doing Daughter Issues right now.My dad's not here. I don't know
why he's not here. I thinkhe's coming in here. Okay. He
told me to say what's up toyou guys, and he doesn't normally do
that, and he's being sneaky,so I don't know what he's about to
show me, but I'm nervous. Can you just bring it out here?

(00:47):
Are you showing me something? Ihear a box? I wonder if it's
something old? What do you got? You know? I don't like that
thing? Oh my gosh, y'allalready a oh gosh. Today is Polaroid

(01:14):
Day. I didn't know we weredoing that today. What are you messing
up? I try to got themic stand. Today is Polaroid Day.
She gets to see all the polaroidsI've been taking. I get to see
him. You get to see himright now. Okay. I'm excited,
and you get to start from scratch, put the film in and figure out

(01:37):
how to work a polaroid for thefirst time, you get to touch it
and use it. Before we do, we have to commemorate this moment is
the worst noise and the brightest flash. You know what reminds me of,
you know why I hate it themovies of when they would do like the
flash bomb. That's exactly what itsounds like. It's really not funny.

(02:05):
Did go away? I think Ithought it was gonna I'm really glad you
don't have that picture. You mighthave to put that in slow mo.
Okay, that was terrible. Ithought it was gonna go higher before doing
the flash. That actually kind ofscared me. Hm. I actually thought
it was gonna go higher before theflash happened, all right, So it
took me off guard. But youknow the movies when they do like a

(02:28):
flash bomb, and that's what youhear after the beginning in the white well
because your ears are ringing. That'swhat that's supposed Okay, but that's what
it reminds me of. Okay,Tlissa, polaroid, keep it in the
camera so they can see what you'relooking at. Your nails look great,
by the way, thank you.No no no, no, no,
no, no, go go laydown. I'm having nails done in a

(02:51):
long long time, so I'm veryhappy about this. I look, hi
poo being cute. You say hi, you say they have kids? All
right, So I figure out howto take a picture. Actually, I
need you to. I need youto put this film in because we just
took the last picture. Oh no, but before we do, here are

(03:13):
some photos that have developed a switch. There's a picture of my mixer.
That's the mixer. That's that's themixer that records the podcast. This is
much flash as there is. Youdidn't think you wouldn't be so blurry.

(03:34):
Yeah, I know. This isa picture I took and I don't know
what it is. These things youoften get. Uh, I gotta turn
in an angle. The finger blurt. It didn't show up. You didn't
take a picture of anything. Idid. It just didn't work Oh I
did. It just didn't work out. Sometimes they just don't work out.

(03:55):
Oh smudge. Yeah, even hewas scared from the flash. Let me
see him. Look at him closinghis eyes. See him closing his eyes.
Here's to listen to her encyclopedias. These are literally how our our photos
looked. There's two The flash istoo bright yep, because well, here's

(04:16):
why, because we have because wehave professional studio lighting in the studio and
that light so typically that's made foryou turn the flash on whenever you're in
like a home, a regular homesetting. I did a podcast with a
bunch of famous people and Jody Sweetenwas on the podcast, who played Stephanie

(04:41):
on Full House and Nilo, getsomewhere and sit down. Your little toe
clicks. Yeah, she's just clickclick click. Come she's too she's too
much right now. Anyway, Igot to do a podcast with her and
I took a picture with her,and she said, as I was getting
the camera, she goes, howfunny would it be if he grabbed a

(05:03):
polaroid because she had seen some ofthe videos and we had talked about it,
and she didn't know that's exactly whatI was doing. I pulled the
polaroid out and here's the picture ofme with Jody Sweeden. Now you maybe
thinking to yourself, I don't seeJody Sweeten in there, and you'd be
right. You cannot see Jody Sweedenin there, But you see the computer

(05:24):
monitor with all the fingers smudge printson it, Yeah, she's in there.
She's in the computer. Yeah,we were on a zoom call,
so that's her. That's me andJody Sweeten. No, this is one
of my I think this is myfavorite. It look at that. I
haven't seen him. I want tosee it. You look like you're like

(05:47):
in the nineties, so frequent. There's another picture of me and Jody and
the last one. I don't thinkthese cameras, because they're built in the
nineties, were meant to take apicture of twenty twenty three seventies seventies.
Yeah, I think it's because itwas built in the seventies the UK.

(06:09):
It just doesn't register twenty twenty threelaptops. Reach of that little flap on
the arm of the couch and giveme the big white cord police. Oh
oh oh, I don't like howthat one feels. Yeah, that's not
good. All right, that's okay, go ahead. Wait a minute.
Don't you have to put something init? Yeah? Oh had to plug

(06:36):
this in. Thought you had aprison. This is so unprofessional. Okay,
sorry, guys, did I breakit? Don't? You're lying to
me? Is not your grandmother shippedthat from nineteen seventy. No, that's

(06:56):
how it goes just be careful howit goes in there. Well, I
didn't know it's separated. Yeah,it separates. It just goes back in
that little computer chip thing slides intothat little slot. It's easy. There
you go. Now you gotta takethe film out. It's like dusty in
there. Yeah, take the filmout. And this is not a replica.

(07:18):
This is not a new one thatwe bought your your grandmother, my
mom. That's this is lipped tolisten. This is literally the camera that
we took my childhood photos with.Really, yep, that's the one my
mom used. Heyy, there's alittle there's a little button on the side.
Right here, there's a button onthe side. Oh, I was
looking for something like, don't makesure the MIC's not blocking also talking to

(07:41):
the mic. I am no one'sgonna hear anything you're saying. Yes they
are. You're too far away fromyour microphone. You're too far away.
Have you tried to go on theother way? There we go? Oh,
there we go, toll free assistance. Look at the camera. You're

(08:05):
blocking one the entire camera with themicrophone. I'm telling them, okay,
but you have to visual to getthe pretty rainbow, all right? So
pull the here go replace the film. I don't like this. Wait,
wait, hum or something off toyourself. What she's going I'll do literally,

(08:33):
that's allowed that they can't hear me. Turn that way when you do
it, she's gonna say the word. Oh no, you can see her.
Okay, go ahead, she isthis little snuggle bunny. All right,
go ahead. Wait, we appreciateyou. You could those eyeballs could
pretty Oh okay, you can neverspend two much time appreciating the puppy doggies.

(09:03):
Can I rip this open? Oh? Is it tucked? You're not
talking into your microphone? Bro,I am it's faced at me. Yeah,
but it needs to be closer.Yeah, but it's in the way
of whenever I hand out figured out. How about you let me handle my

(09:24):
own business because I have to editthis after the fact that I'm not gonna
be able to hear you. Couldyou sound like a Gorillaooooooo? This was
like a pop tart? Does it? It was exciting, but it's just
no, there's no pop tart inhere. I thought the tape was like

(09:46):
tape. Hey, be careful,be careful, you're being a little rough
with it. You gotta read andpay attention. Hey, listen, listen,
you're being so rough. Is thiswhat we've done with our children?
You can be rough. Listen thisstuff. You can't just put your fingers
all over it anywhere. There areplaces you're not supposed to really touch,
and you need to be a littlecareful with it and read carefully what you're

(10:09):
doing. Look at it. It'sgoing to tell you what to do.
He is backward and impossible. Flipit over. Why does it have that?
Flip it over? Flip other way? Flip flip it over. There
we go. It's still upside down. Okay, no, this says yeah,

(10:31):
I know. Flip it over tomake little girls ask questions. You'll
get it. The p is backwards, okay, okay, flip it over.
Flip it over this table, don'tdon't feel like it. Okay,
Read what it tells you to doand talk into the mic. One clue

(10:52):
light behind you, right, insertfilm the side up. Do not remove
this dark slide. I wasn't planningon it and removing anything that has a
very most tocher on. I mean, this is an old one. There
you go. Context clues. Waita minute, don't break a nail.

(11:16):
Grab it. I can do it. I'm trying. Maybe those claws are
preventing you from you are a clawcool claws are pretty useful, Yeah,

(11:37):
they really, they really are.Actually, can I touch that tape that
was out? Yeah, that one'sempty, so you can grab it.
That would have smell like glue. But you knew, but you knew,
popped heart in there? Tape out? Oh? This side, this side

(12:01):
up, the side up. Oh, don't smack it. Well, that's
how you get things to work inthe olden days. You just keep your
hair back. I don't know ifI got that on the films? Hopefully
is it? Do I take thetape off? No, you need I

(12:31):
was waiting on that. I'm tiredof old things scaring me. I'm tired
of it. All right. Ithink this is the thing that smells like
yep. Okay, so now it'sready. Let's take a photo. But
what are these like? The knobsfor focus? And I think that's exposure.

(12:52):
Put it back on the triangle inthe middle, on the triangle.
I think it was supposed to beall right, so your pictures first.
Try to take a picture. Now, since we have professional lighting, there
should be a countdown or something.Well, you you did it with You're
doing it with flash, so it'sgonna be bright. But we also have
this flash. Open your eyes.I'm a old school go for it,

(13:16):
your old school. I gotta geta good ankle. This is a terrible
noise to be next to. Comeon, do you have to don't have
to hit a button button. It'svoice activated. You say flash and it'll
work. Damn it, Lissa,I can't do this anymore. To Lissa,

(13:39):
come on, try again. I'msorry. But see you're gonna get
your finger. You're gonna get that'sgonna be a picture of your finger.
Hold on to listen. There's onlyeight photos in the entire pack. To
Lissa, you gotta pull this outfirst. Oh you can't just keep doing
it. No, and listen tome. Listen, listen to me for

(14:00):
a second. Stop. I realizein your world photos are just one thousand
a minute. They're that entire. This entire pack was twenty something dollars.
I think, and look at this. Look read what that says right there?
I can't focus with this on.It says, okay, turn off.
What's the worst? What does itsay? Eight color instant photos?

(14:24):
Eight and you've already taken two. They're only six pictures. I know of
some people I blamed me around.I just I just wanted you to be
aware of how what of what's left? Hold on, Listen to me,
to Lissa, I don't think yourfinger is in front of the lens.

(14:50):
Oh, don't block it. Yeah, you're blocking it. Also, don't
do that. You don't have todo that. In fact, you're supposed
to. What we always did isdid that and we stuck it on a
lamp. And that's the opposite ofwhat you're supposed to do. So listen
to me. Listen. Your picturesaren't going to turn out very well because
you're you're being crazy. I didso you did not try taking one without

(15:11):
the flash. Don't turn it on, so just make sure your feet.
I thought that was a button toturn off the flash. There's a little
thing next to it. Yep,okay, listen, just just hold your
hand up, just look through thatlittle viewfinder and just press the red button

(15:33):
without turning the thing on. Pressthis red button right here. But you
got your your fingers in front ofthe lens. It's gotta be on.
Okay, now do it? Okay? See oh no, okay, do

(15:54):
you okay? Turn, turn thelight on the lead, Yeah, the
flash, But you gotta wait tillthe orange light comes on. There's an
orange light in the back, Telissa, wait till you see the orange light.
No, do you see the squarein the back? No, I

(16:14):
mean, Telissa, little annoying thingsin my home? Is the orange light
on? Yep? You did itright that time. So now we take
this which now looks like this forall the kids at home. And you're
supposed to put it face down ina dark place, and that's gonna get

(16:34):
your best place it is. Yeah, but dark make it dark? Well
you don't. It doesn't have tobe warm. How long does it take?
Ten minutes or so? Maybe thismaybe less ten minutes. This little
separation things making me nervous? Whatdo you mean? It just separates too
easy for me to beholding it?Okay, your turn, and it comes

(16:56):
early? What do you mean early? Earlier than I think? It'll be
her in a minute. And thenI think that's almost okay. You may
only have one left. I didn'tkeep tracks all right with you. I

(17:18):
mean, Nyla, it's Telissa.Dogs, make sure your fingers not blocking
it. She was like, bro, sorry, I know I put you
through that. I'm so sorry.Well did you turn it off? Yeah?

(17:40):
Yeah, so that's that's a polaroid. Well, I mean the crazy
part about it was think about imagineChristmas family time, right, where like
we get ten or fifteen people together, Yeah, and somebody takes a picture.
First of all, the person takingthe picture can't be in it.
Now we have timers on our phonesand we could say ten seconds, everybody

(18:00):
can get together and take pictures. You can also do multiple pictures where you
right, what do they call themwhen you you can hold your hold it
down to get a bunch No,no, no, it's called damn it.
I know, y'all know what itis. It's a it's a it's
a man. The word is rioletipof my tongue. It's a lot of

(18:26):
them. It's a lot of pictures. Yeah, no, no, no,
you it's all a bunch of themat the same time, like a
shutter flasher, wretcher, Fletcher. It's a fletcher anyway. So you could
do that and then and now likeyou you may only there'd be like how
many you got left in there? It didn't even tell you you just like
there's a countdown. Hey, Ihave a question. Did you have any

(18:48):
toys that like did this? Yeah, so then you just turn it on
and get one of those toys andhave it pressed the button for you,
and then you could be in thebutton. It's too small, and it
would be in the camera. Itwould be in the way. I thought
what you were looking through is whatyou Oh, it is different that little
square I thought I was looking throughthe camera. You're looking through this lens

(19:11):
is round? Why are the picturessquare? Hm? How come the pictures
aren't round because the one you're lookingthrough is square? It is that makes

(19:33):
from the backside. Calm down, guys, it's not that serious. This
is how it looks from this side. And you press the on button.
These are for the children's at home. And then when that light turns orange,
it's ready to shoot a picture,so you have to deal it there
it goes. Now that it's orange, you can take that picture. Someone
call that red, but in personit's orange. When you agree that the

(19:56):
orange, what is it doing heatingup the flash? Yeah, it actually
is getting the bulbs ready. Wow. Yeah, it takes a few seconds.
Yep, I know it's coming too. That might have been our last
one. Thing? Is you neverknow it's I think that was number six.
I mean, to be honest,I could see this being more worth
it just because I mean, thisis a physical photo, and like,

(20:17):
in order to get a physical photogenuinely, like you have to go to
CVS and print out the whole thing. So that wasn't even a thing yet.
You couldn't go to CVS and printanything out yet. This was before
all of that, So yeah, this is good to have. Even Originally,
Originally, what you had to dowas you had a roll of film
that you put in a camera kindof like you just did, and you

(20:38):
would take pictures, but you couldnever see them. You were just taking
pictures. And then you would takeit down to the local drug store like
CVS or whatever and get it developed. But you have to drop it off
and wait days and then come backand get your photos. And then you'd
find out, oh, Barbara hadher eyes closed like you just didn't know.
Especially and then most of these thesecameras only had anywhere from eight to

(21:00):
maybe twelve and in big cases maybethirty two photos in them. So you
would just take all these photos andget them all developed, and you'd have
multiple roles of film and you'd you'dget you'd save them all and then go
drop them off and then pay forthem all at once to get developed.
So this was the first time. This was like magic. It's like what
we take the picture and it comesout like it's a printer, like it

(21:23):
comes out right now. It's socool. Yeah, it's so cool.
So that's a little sound. It'slike getting ready to print. It's cute.
It's not scart, but I knowyou always thought it was gonna blow
up. Sounds like it's intense, like currying off. Anyway, I think

(21:51):
I got y more than I gotyou. Yeah, there's the one of
Nyla coming in. Oh poor dog. Yeah, Oh, what's the one
of me getting on move move saidher name. I know. Yeah,

(22:15):
so this one you had your fingerin the way, so yeah, I'm
telling you, get your finger outof the way, and you just snapped
it. So that's what it lookslike. And then and then she did
a pretty clear one. But it'sstill developing. But there is a lot
of light on it, like Imean, it's it's really bright. Oh
yeah, you know, so maybewe'll have to try it. Let's let's

(22:37):
buy another one and turn on allthe lights off and then try it.
I bet we get some pretty decentphotos. There might be one left.
How many have we taken? Didyou just not have a lot of lights?
Yeah, well we definitely didn't havestudio lights. You want to turn
these off and actually try a realphoto. I'm just thinking about it when
you look hold her right there.I'm gonna turn the studio lights off,
so just deal with that, guys, and I'm gonna try to take one
picture. Hopefully there's one left.I'm to get this warming up. Here

(23:00):
we go turning off the studio lights. I hate this freaking Ni Mamy,
I missed you. I love you. Thank you pretty kids? All right?
See if this works better? Willas the worst? That's gonna be

(23:26):
a good picture. I try tolook at the camera for the try to
do it for the ground. Thegund I hurt my eyeballs. I want
to see how that one comes out. Did you give to a good picture
with me? Picture with me?Yeah? This one's gonna be good good,
all right. I love doing thisshow with you because I get to

(23:49):
not only show you stuff from mychildhood like Polaroid and you know, street
Fighter and the other stuff, butalso I read the other day, and
I say red because I saw itin a TikTok and then I went to
fact check it and so I readup on it, and the statistics say
that you only get to spend nineteenyears with your child, really your entire

(24:11):
life, the first eighteen are alltogether, and then for the rest of
your life, the cumulative time youwill see them will only add up to
one year. Are you serious?Because they're busy, they're out doing other
things, And there's no way that'strue for us because we spend so much
time together. No, it's not. Not only do we do this,

(24:33):
but I also just see you, like it's just you have to make that
face when you said, no,I'm just I just see you. I
drive by you just pumping gas withyour dumb self. There's this face again,
just like I just see you.I don't know. Yeah, it's
that's that's interesting. That's interesting.One year total. It's like it's kind
of scary that. Yeah, it'scoming in. Now, where's the one

(24:56):
of me and Nila? That's Ijust took it, So it's gonna take
a minute to develop, but youtake it a few minutes ago or are
seconds ago? The dark one allthe lights off. Yeah, no,
that's what it looks like right now. It takes it takes a minute to
develop. There's nothing there yet.In fact, I'm going to cover it
up and make it dark. Soanyway, that's why I love doing this

(25:18):
podcast. And while we're waiting forthat to develop, Oh look that one's
Yeah, we perfectly captured me beinglike, what are you going? That's
funny, it's funny. This isa good album cover. Yeah, especially
that one with your I'm going moveyour feet and her fingers blocking the damn

(25:48):
these are fun Okay, listen, what is it with you? And drop
it? I do. I dohave a cool story to tell you while
while we're waiting on this to develop. Yeah, you want to see this
photo where we go. So I'mat the Comedy Store the other day and
you know, I've got a showcoming up September eleventh with Patton Oswald.

(26:11):
So we had been messaging on Instagrambecause he agreed to do the show.
Are you already yawning a little bit? Okay? Stop? So I see
Patton Oswald. I'm coming out ofthe original room of the Comedy Store.
I see him standing there. I'venever met him in person. But We've
just been messaging on Instagram, andso I'm waiting patiently to like kind of

(26:33):
fan boy out and be like,oh my god, it's Patton Oswald.
And he stops his conversation, turnsto me and goes David, and I
was like, hey, I didn'tknow if you would remember me, and
he goes, I'm looking forward toworking with you on the eleventh and I
was like, awesome. So heknows and he gets it, and then
he walks away from the conversation hewas in. He tells the person,
I apologize, give me a second. He comes over to me and he

(26:56):
goes, I gotta say I lovethe podcast you do with your daughter.
He goes, I follow all theTikTok's in the Instagram and he's like,
he goes, I love what youdo. Because he has a daughter.
She's a younger teenager. She's probablyI would guess, so we're between fourteen
to sixteen ish or something like that. But he said, he goes the
conversations you have with her, Hegoes, I see that in myself,

(27:19):
and he he loved it. Andso I had no idea that Patton Oswald
was like watching our content and enjoyingit really but huge shout out to Patton
if you see this, we loveyou man, we're both big fans.
Literally today I got to I mean, I get to tell you, I
get to come home and say yeah, like like Ratitui was like, I
was just what I say. Iliterally watched Ratituti today. Did you really?

(27:40):
Yeah? Just just not no correlationto Patton Oswald. I just like
literally I turned on. I thinkI kind of like made the connection when
I was hearing his voice. Iwas like, I'm gonna see him some
relevant and then you're bringing it up, which is funny. I literally watched
at this point his stand up isreally good. Yeah, I's so funny.
I'm excited. I'm so excited. And he talks a lot about being
a dad and he talks about that'llbe yeah, yeah, that's so cool.

(28:02):
So come see us September eleventh,if you're in LA you'll get to
see Patton Oswald. Eliza is gonnabe there, which is a massive mega
superstar za Nab Johnson, who's huge, and Brad Williams as well, who
is not huge. He's actually quitethe opposite. Did you your phone died

(28:22):
because of battery power. Because ofbattery you know what that means. No,
that means I get to end thispodcast. Hold on, I gotta
show them this. Hold on,Look it's coming together. Oh wait,
that's cute. This one's gonna begood. We have to end the show
now, but that's gonna be areally good one when it's finished developing.
Should post that one too. That'sthe key is you gotta turn the big

(28:45):
studio lights off if you're gonna usepolaroid. Excuse me. Anyway, Thanks
