Geneviève Labrie est biologiste et chercheuse au CRAM (Centre de recherche agroalimentaire de Mirabel) et vit à Granby. Anciennement employée au CÉROM (Centre de recherche sur les grains inc.), elle y travaillait sur des études portant sur l’impact des néonicotinoïdes sur les abeilles et sur les rendements du soya et du maïs. À la suite de différentes pressions subies par ses collègues chercheurs et elle-même au sein de ce Centre de recherche, ils sont plusieurs à avoir démissionné. En effet, le CÉROM était à l’époque administré par une majorité d’industriels, malgré le financement des fonds publics. C’est cette ingérence du privé dans la recherche publique qu’avait dénoncée le lanceur d’alerte Louis Robert, agronome congédié puis réintégré au ministère de l’Agriculture du Québec.
