Doctor en Planificación del Desarrollo (University College London), máster en Gestión Urbana (TU-Berlin) y licenciado en Diseño (UC-Temuco, Chile), Sandoval es investigador de la Unidad de Estudios Sociales sobre Desastres de la Universidad Libre de Berlín y editor principal de la Revista de Estudios Latinoamericanos sobre Reducción del Riesgo de Desastres (REDER).
Marchezini es sociólogo en el Centro Brasileño de Monitoreo y Alerta Temprana de Desastres (Cemaden). Es profesor en el Programa de Doctorado en Ciencia del Sistema Terrestre del Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (PGCST/INPE) y en el Programa de Posgrado en Desastres (ICT/Unesp y Cemaden). Actualmente coordina el proyecto COPE, financiado por la Fundación de Apoyo a la Investigación del Estado de Sao Paulo.
