Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning, Detroit. I'm Morgan Riley here with your Wednesday
news and a fresh word on the streets of Detroit.
Our city has always known how to turn challenge into celebration,
and today's top story really brings that home. Years in
the making, Detroit is preparing for the grand opening of
a transformative twenty two acre public park along the riverfront.

(00:21):
The Ralph C. Wilson Junior Centennial Park, set for its
grand debut October twenty fifth and twenty sixth, will connect
the neighborhoods of Corktown, Mexican Town, and Roosevelt Park, giving
families and visitors new ways to reach the water and
each other. This park, made possible by a landmark fifty

(00:41):
million dollars gift from the Wilson Foundation, fixtures a Delta
Dental play garden, year round sport courts in a William
Davidson Sport House, and a two acre educational water garden.
Its grand opening will coincide with the Detroit Harvest Fest,
offering live entertainment on forces stages, over thirty food trucks,

(01:02):
and in appearance by Motown legends the Jacksons. The Detroit
Riverfront Conservancy will steward this space, continuing their effort to
restore public access to the city's historic waterfront, a move
aimed at healing old divides created decades ago by projects
like I three seventy five and wide expansions along Jefferson Avenue.

(01:25):
Turning to human stories, Centennial Park is more than new
trails and gardens. It stands where city planners once paved
over the vibrant Black Bottom neighborhood. Local artist Aaron Taylor,
whose Mura greets visitors at the park's entrance, shared this
week Detroit rises strongest when we remember what came before
and lift each other up. You can see his work

(01:47):
as part of the park's public art collection, weaving history
with hope right into the landscape. Looking ahead to the weekend,
Detroit is set to hum with culture and connection. The
Fiesta House three six h experience lights up Big Pink
on White Street October tenth and eleventh with DJ's Momami
SWDJ and DJ Yak Skinning, Latin Regaton and Detroit Ghetto

(02:11):
Tech celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with immersive beats, community and
tackles from Mama's Kitchen. Because every good Detroit party remembers
the power of a great meal shared. Weatherwise, Metro Detroit
is enjoying a brief taste of autumn, with cooler temperatures
today and tomorrow before a late summer warmth returns just
in time for next week's outdoor festivities. Weekend highs should

(02:35):
reach the mid seventies, perfect weather for exploring Centennial Park
or nearby community gatherings. If you're a Bank of America cardholder,
don't miss this weekend's Museums on Us program, offering free
admission to major Detroit cultural sites and for families. Keep
an eye out for fall events and haunted trails popping
up in Dearborn and beyond. As we step into October,

(02:57):
Detroits resolve and creativity are on full display. These new
spaces to gather and honor our roots remind us that
every corner of our city holds a story worth sharing
and rewriting word on the streets of Detroit. When the
city comes together, the whole country watches. Thank you for
tuning in. Remember to subscribe so you never miss a
