Speaker 1 (00:00):
Word on the streets of Detroit. The city is surging
with news and events this week, and I'm Morgan Riley
here to bring you the heart of what's happening across
our neighborhoods. From efforts curbing violence, to a charge story
in public service and lively community events, Detroit continues to
show its resilience and vibrant culture. Our top story surrounds
a recent incident involving a Detroit Police officer. According to
(00:23):
local sources, thirty four year old officer Shane Michael Shaw
was arrested last Saturday night in Lincoln Park on charges
of first degree home invasion, resisting arrest, and assaulting a
police officer. The alleged incident began when Shaw, reportedly off duty,
confronted residents about their parked vehicle. Tensions escalated with Shaw
(00:44):
entering the home, leading to a physical altercation before police arrived.
The department has since suspended Shaw with pay and begun
procedures to remove payment. As the internal affairs investigation continues.
Commander Michael McGinnis underscored the department's commit into accountability, telling
the community that if wrongdoing is found, actions will be taken. Shaw,
(01:06):
who had no prior criminal record is out on bond
with a hearing scheduled for next week. Shifting to the
power of community, another headline this week exemplifies grassroots action.
Community violence interrupters are organizing the Stop the Violence, Unity
Over Division Rideout, launching from Rouge Park on October fourth.
(01:27):
This initiative is in direct response to recent youth shootings
and aims to unite our city block by block. The
event honors Eric Ford, co founder of Detroit three hundred,
with neighborhood rides and activities focused on healing and connection.
These are the kinds of local efforts that Detroit has
become known for, neighbors standing together against adversity for our
(01:50):
human interest spotlight. Consider Rouge Park itself, a sprawling green
expanse with deep roots in Detroit's recreation history, now serving
as the backdrop for events that inspire hope and solidarity
this week. As organizers, community partners, and everyday Detroiters gather
for the ride out, the park is more than a landmark,
(02:12):
It's a symbol of persistence and unity. Weather for Detroit
is staying unseasonably warm, with near record high temperatures forecast
through Monday. Expect highs in the mid seventies to low eighties,
with sunshine dominating the start of October. Keep in mind
a cooling front is expected by midweek, possibly dropping us
back into the sixties and giving us a taste of
(02:33):
classic fall very soon. Events wise, Saturday brings in Techno
We Trust, an electronic music and dance event at the
former Hermann Kifer Complex from one to ten pm. Detroit's
cultural gems like the Michigan Science Center are offering free
admission Saturday as part of Museums on Us Plus. Keep
(02:54):
looking ahead to the grand opening of Routh CC Wilson
Junior Centennial Park with Detroit hart Fest in a few weeks,
a massive celebration you won't want to miss. Detroit's pulse
as always beat strong through our challenges, our culture, and
our commitment to community. We see echoes of our motown
past in today's unity rides and in the rhythms of
(03:17):
our techno future. As we head into the weekend, I
encourage all listeners to engage, participate, and look out for
one another. Thanks for tuning in and being part of
Detroit's ongoing story. Don't forget to subscribe so you never
