WHEN MY PAST VISITS

The past comes knocking in the quiet of the night,
Bringing with it echoes of laughter and tears,
Memories of connections that has slipped through my hands,
The moments where I stood on the edge of closeness, then pulled away.
I wonder if I sabotaged those fragile ties,
Choosing solitude over the warmth of shared hearts.

Sleepless hours stretch into eternity,
As I unravel the threads of my emotional detachment.
Why did I retreat when they reached out to hold me?
Was I protecting myself from pain, or from being truly seen?
I analyze the distance I created, wondering if I was ever meant
To keep anyone close, or if it was always my fate to walk alone.

Mistakes loom large, but they feel like shadows now,
The people I once knew have long since moved on.
I’ve come to terms with the bridges I’ve burned,
Though the embers of regret still glow in my chest.
The chance to fix what was lost seems far behind,
A door closed in the corridors of time.

Now, I question if I’ll ever be open again,
If new connections are worth the risk of loss.
The scars from the past make me wary of touch,
But deep inside, I still yearn for a place to belong.
The past visits often, reminding me of what was lost,
But perhaps the future holds a different kind of hope.
One I’d be forever grateful for.
