Speaker 1 (00:01):
Tom in the Morning with Melissa Moore the podcast on
Cool one oh five.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
The Future is here. We have stumbled into the future.
Gretchen discovered it yesterday. She went for one of her checkups,
just to the doctor's office, and I should say side note,
she saw the PA instead of the doctor. And we
have decided that at our doctor's office, we prefer.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
That, oh, the pas are incredible or then.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Pro Yeah, we are pro PA in that situation. Yeah. Anyway,
the reason I bring it up is because she came
home and she was kind of smiling. She goes, well,
this was interesting. She goes when when the PA walked in,
one of the first things she said was I hope
it's okay with you. I'm going to be recording this
conversation with you today for AI. And apparently, so she
(00:50):
starts by saying some sort of like scripted thing and
then they just start talking and gretch was asking her
about it, and and I guess you know they use
it now. They use artificial intelligence to kind of summarize
each appointment and maybe even spit out like discussion points
(01:11):
or questions that could be asked based on what Gretchen said. Oh. Interesting,
So it's a combination of the training and medical school
and all of that stuff along with AI that has
been learning. And gretch said it was actually pretty cool.
So and I guess they start with this script thing
Melissa at the beginning, so it kind of how does
(01:33):
she describe it? It kind of like sets a standard and
then they can compare from case to case to case.
But that's like the baseline thing, and it like tells
the AI, all right, get your ducks in a row.
It was really interesting.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
So they're not reading the script for legality purposes, like
they don't think, so okay, I don't think. So it's
to get AAI to know what to do.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Yeah, So I'll text Gretchen and I'll find out again
what she was trying to explain the I mean, what
the like why they start with that. But I love
the whole idea of using it to summarize, because you know,
when you're sitting there talking to your doctor, they might
make a few notes, but to have it actually word
for word analyzed. I think it is really interesting. And
(02:17):
I know some people are gonna say I don't want that,
Well you better want it. I think AI is going
to extend human lifespan is what I think.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
Well, it's so interesting. My twenty year old daughter's she
tells me all the time she's that she doesn't want
anything to do with the AI because her generation is
looking at it as taking jobs. And so we had
to have a whole conversation about it, and I said,
I hear what you're saying, but there are other uses
for it where it helps in your job, it doesn't
take from it. And so and I'm like, I understand
(02:47):
if you're talking about like in the arts and replacing
artists and writers in those kind of creative fields. But
in terms of medical that's where I think it's it's
huge right now.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
I'm totally on with it. And I again some people,
and look, she had the option because when the PA
walked into the room, she said, are you okay with us? Right?
Gretchen could have said no, and the doctor would have
said fine and just set it aside. Yep. But I
think I want all of the possible help I can
get when they are trying to fix something wrong with me.
(03:22):
I don't mind them bringing in, you know, the cavalry
to kind of help.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Well. And the nice thing is if you I was
even getting my mom to use AI and I said, mom,
put in some of your health stuff going on, and
then ask it to formulate some questions that you can
take into your doctor and ask yep. And she said, oh,
I can do that. I said, yeah, put in everything
going on and then say what question should I ask
my doctor? Because I think there is a way to
(03:48):
use it as a tool. And of course there's going
to be exploitation, just like every shing.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Sure with everything right, but there.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
Are some good things. And that's why I'm trying to
teach my daughter too, because she's like, no, no AI,
and I'm like, okay, look, you got to get on board.
It's coming.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
Yeah. And the whole no AI, I mean, your daughter's
using it every day without even being aware of it.
And that's what I tried to tell her, her whole
blanket no to AI. Well, you better turn in.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
She's a GP.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
Wait, she's a gamer too. And I was like, okay,
hold up, hold up here.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
She's using AI all day long, right.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
I was like, when your mom is telling you that
it's cool and you need to do it, something's wrong here, kid.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
Yeah, it's bizarro world, all right. I called Gretchen and
I asked her about that whole thing. She went to
see a PA yesterday, or physician's assistant at her doctor's office,
and the woman started by saying, Hey, I'm going to
record this for AI. Is that okay? And then she
started by saying the same two or three lines as
she says she says for every appointment. And so I
(04:49):
called Gretchen. I said, what was that all about? Again?
She goes, it's a control, you know, like if you
do experiments, you do a control where it's the same thing,
you know, at one point, so you can compare the results.
Oh sure, and it's kind of she says, to make
sure that the AI is staying on board with the procedure.
And she goes, the PA told her a few times
(05:10):
it's not and that's good because now it's learning with
innocent stuff so it doesn't fumble the big stuff later
on else. Okay, Well cool, So anyway, that's what that
was all about. Just in case you wanted to know.
