Speaker 1 (00:01):
Dumb in the Morning with Melissa Moore, the podcast on
Cool one oh five.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
I read multiple stories over the last year about how
America has never had more people in a state of loneliness,
and they say it a lot of it, And I
guess irony is the right word, Melissa. Because of social
media being so big, you would think people would not
feel that way, but instead social media causes people to
(00:31):
experience loneliness. And now you've got a story about it. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
I mean it's especially prevalent in gen Z because you
think about gen Z and these are folks between thirteen
and twenty eight years old, and this is the generation
of texting all the time and gaming online. And so
I see this story over this weekend of this twenty
one year old young woman, and she wrote us a thing,
and she went on TikTok and listened to what she
(00:56):
had to say. And then I'm going to tell you
what happened to her. I am feeling like I want
to die and that this is complete torture and I
don't know what I did to somebody to do this. Okay,
So what she's talking about is she went online and
signed up for an anti loneliness club in her area.
She lives in Salem, Massachusetts. She bought a ticket for
twelve dollars. It said go to this restaurant and meet
(01:17):
up with other Anti Loneliness Club members. She gets there,
there's nobody there.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Oh my.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
She sits down at the restaurant and she takes a
picture of herself sitting there one person at this big table.
They went and checked with the owner, because she said
the waiters and bartenders and everybody felt so badly for her.
They're like, hold on, let us check about into this.
And the owner of the restaurant's like, I don't even
know about this group that was supposed to meet here.
(01:44):
So people are like, do people flake out on this group?
Speaker 1 (01:47):
On her?
Speaker 3 (01:47):
And everybody just got too nurvous to go. Was it
a prank? I don't know. But she posts that video
with some of that audio I just played on her
TikTok and she said thanks to that, she got over
a million views and she's now connected with people all
over her area. But some of the comments on her
(02:08):
page are like, oh my gosh, this is my nightmare.
I've wanted to do something like this too, and my
fear is this would happen to me, and they go,
now that I've seen it happened to you, I'm never
gonna do it.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
God, I know.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
And I mean she's this cute twenty one year old,
like you look at her Instagram page and she's holding
her dog with her cap and gown on as she graduates.
I mean, it's just so sad.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
It's not christ breaking.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
It really is heartbreaking. I mean it has a happy ending,
thinks good, thank goodness. I mean she's she's actually put
herself out there, and everybody was like, hey, kudos to
you for at least putting yourself out there, because she did.
She tried, but it's I just can't even imagine walking
It's like walking in for a blind date and then
getting stood up, but even worse like.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
A blind date times twelve. Other people like, yes, right.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
Because you got stood up with an anti loneliness club
and you sat there at a table for one.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Am I a monster because part of me thinks this
is also hilarious.
Speaker 3 (03:07):
Oh my gosh, I feel so bad for.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
I feel bad for it. But at the same time,
the people who set it up. I mean it's kind
of fell No, all right, I'm a monster.
