Speaker 1 (00:01):
Dumb in the Morning with Melissa Moore the podcast on
Cool one oh five.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
All right, the stories we didn't get to. There's a
bunch of tech stories that we should just like quickly
hit on. For people who are concerned about smartphones ruining
our brains. A report says, yes they are. That's kind
of depressing in a way. It says it is a
(00:28):
devastating analysis of American personality changes all because of smartphones.
And I don't know about this, Melissa. It says it
makes young people less responsible than ever.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
That's interesting. I think it depends on the kid because
I know my daughter has no I mean, knock on wood,
she's never lost a smartphone, she's never broken one. She's
so responsible with her things. It helped her become more responsible.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Meanwhile, the guy who's behind Chad gbtan, he says gen
zers are quote the luckiest kids in history end quote.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
But they're the loneliest we talked about earlier today. So
that's what's strange exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
And some people brought up to him, they go, well,
you know, AI is taking all of their jobs. The wow, okay.
And then lastly, in all of this, Google's Gemini AI,
have you used that one yet, I've used Gemini a
couple of times.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
Yeah, I mean especially because I think Gemini is also
what it uses. Like if you put in a Google search,
it will give you that summary in the corner when
it pops up, and that's Gemini.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
Well, they say Gemini. The AI is depressed and it's
having self esteem issues. You know the things they are
large learning, you know, their language models, they learn from
the youth. So I would imagine if more people are
down and depressed that it could be like a virus
(01:58):
that infects the AI. Does that Is that a possibility?
Speaker 3 (02:02):
I don't know. I don't know about that. I just
think it's it. And the whole reason they're saying it's
depressed is because it's apologizing. It's sorry, you know, and
I had it happen to me. I'm so sorry I
let you down. This is really embarrassing. I don't feel
like myself today, and I'm like, dude, you're a computer.
Just give me another answer.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
I've had it say those things too. Yeah, yeah, yea,
I will say those things too. You know, this sounds
suspiciously like, you know how science fiction so often predicts
the future. There was a book that came out many
years ago by John Varley. It's called Steel Beach. Steel Beach.
It's one of the best sci fi books ever. But
that's one of the big things in that story is
that everything is run by the central computer, and the
(02:44):
central computer gets depressed, and I'm like, wow, once again
sci fi writers predict the future. And then lastly, if
you need a dose of some more cheap Swedish furniture. Boy,
that's hard to say cheap Swedish furniture.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
I thought you're gonna say, I got my finger on
the button.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Yikes. You might want to run to a Best Buy location.
It looks like they are going to start teaming up
with Ikea. They're going to open little mini IKEA's inside
Best Buys about a thousand square feet selling like cabinets
and they say other storage solutions for your kitchen and
laundry room. And the idea, mollss I guess is that
(03:28):
people go in to buy a fridge or a washer
and dryer and they're like, oh, we should probably just
redo the whole area.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
Well you think about it. I mean, you go in
to buy a TV and you're like, huh. Like our
producer Dixon, he had his TV on his moving boxes.
For a while, he's been able to get a little
stand for it right there with his TV. I mean,
it's actually very smart to team up.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
They are going to open the first ten of these,
just in Florida and Texas and see how it goes.
But I'm sure it'll go quite well. In fact, some
of these locations will also let you order any Ikea
product and ship it there to the Best Buy. And
you're saying, why don't you just go to Ikea, Well,
you got to know there's only fifty what's the story,
fifty two Ikeas in the entire United States. I mean
(04:13):
we're fortunate in Denver. I mean you can go to
an Ikea, but there's only fifty two in the country,
while there's more than a thousand Best Buys.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
No, I mean it's a supply and demand, and especially
some of the middle size cities they don't have a
IKEI what's.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
The store that is it Macy's where they put the
toys r us Because I was just in one. I
think it was a Mazy's. I was walking through and
I went through this entire Toys r US section, like
they revived it to put inside another store.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
It's so smart when these stores are teaming up like
that instead of going out of business, Let's see who
else can we team up with? And you know what,
great keep the jobs.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Yeah. So anyway, they're going to test it out in
Florida and Texas and then maybe it'll spread. Anyway, those
are your little bonus stories this morning.
