Speaker 1 (00:01):
Dumb in the Morning with Melissa Moore the podcast on
Cool one oh five. We were talking about people stuck
in traffic a few minutes ago and how sometimes they're like, Oh,
I just long for the simple life. Do you ever
find yourself saying that, Melissa More, Are you ever long
for the simple life? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (00:18):
I mean if we're talking kind of that quiet, less
hectic life. My brother just bought what was it, fifteen
acres in Tennessee, and he's got chickens and goats, and
he'll post these pictures of himself sitting on the front
porch and he just kind of scans his property with
his phone and it's just these rolling meadows and mountains.

(00:41):
And I will tell you right now, if that's a
simple life every day, I'm like, sign me up for
that one.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
Count you in huh yep. You know. The thing is,
I think we romanticize the simple life and when people
there are a lot of people who start trying to
live that and then they realize is that they didn't
know exactly what they signed up for. It sounds like
your brother has absolutely embraced it, and that's wonderful, but

(01:07):
there are some people who try it and then they're like, oh,
but I want to do this, and oh I want
to do that, and I want to buy this, and
I want to And I was like, oh, you need
sometimes you need pockets of simplicity in your life. But
there's this big study that came out now and they
tried to break it down into these categories. Let me
run these by you and you tell me if this

(01:28):
is something that you would raise your hand and sign
up for material simplicity because you don't buy a lot
of stuff you don't need with.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
The Amazon price.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
That's right, all those Amazon factors on your front step.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
And the fact that my husband and Tim will be like, hey, babe,
what'd you order from Amazon? I'm like, oh, don't remember,
and I don't. But not funny but they said I
needed that cream for my face and I was like,
you know, you're right, I do, thank you. Do you
want us to throw it in the cart?

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Sure? Do I know that my son and his wife
they went with a minimalist lifestyle thing, and I know
they've never been happier. There's a lot of stress involved
with accumulating a bunch of stuff, especially like when you
just walk through your house like I can walk through
one room in my house is the only house that's

(02:17):
really cluttered and bad. I can walk through that and
it just I can feel the anxiety built it up.
I hate clutter ryh this crap. Self sufficiency that includes
like cooking most of your meals that's not a problem,
or growing food in a garden. Well, I know I've
got zucchinis. I don't know if you saw my pictures,
that's a gigantic zucchini.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
Oh my god, it was a good two footer. And
I've got a bigger one growing right now and I
haven't cut it off the vine because I want to
see how big I can get it.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
It's like growing those giant pumpkins.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Kind of it is it is, and it didn't start
out this way. But for whatever reason, my zucchinis are
are I don't know, they're on steroids in my backyard.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
Well, there's more to self sufficiency than just eating zucchini.
But it's flying stars, right.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
That's the thing is, I've got one food I'm growing.
You know, I don't have a chicken. I don't have
any corn. I don't have that, right.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
I don't want chickens.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
And it's hard for me because I love eating out
and eating great meals out where you don't have to
dirty your kitchen or clean up. So to me, that's
simplicity is my kitchen stayed clean.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
Local procurement, so you buy local again, you're not gonna
have Amazon coming to your door. Step number four resource conservation.
You don't waste food, and you repair things instead of
replacing them. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
I think that's just being smart.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
That's good. But there are some things like when my
microwave breaks, I'm like, I don't know how to fix
a freaking microwave. But that's why they have microwave people.
They just call them and they go into the house
for twelve dollars. Yes, and then what they call beneficence,
they say, that's the most important one. It's becoming part

(03:58):
of a community. In other word, you're very social with
the people around you. You're very close and generous with
your neighbors. There you go, I mean you've got that
going on. I mean you know your neighbors, although you're
spying on that one behind you.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
Yeah, I haven't met them yet. Now it's getting to
that awkward phase of we had these people move in
and it's been two months and now it's like it's
too too late, right, Like now it's going to be like, hey,
nice to meet you. Yeah, we've been here for four years.
That's what it's going to come to, and we share offence.
It's ridiculous.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
Well, if you are close and generous with your neighbors,
they say, that's one of the prime ways of living
a simpler life. Did you post this, by the way,
on our Facebook or could we post this a loon?

Speaker 2 (04:37):
We can post it because I would like to know
what you know, you other people would add to this list? Sure,
because when I read this list, these were not you know,
like I told you, my vision was of maybe it's
in the mountains and sitting on a deck in the
mountains and you're looking out over the Colorado Mountains and
it's just peaceful. To me, that's a simple life.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
So these maybe there's a difference between a simple life
and a peaceful life.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
Maybe there maybe, and maybe that's what I'm thinking of.
More So, I am going to post this list up
Cool one O five on Facebook and the don with
Melissa page and yet add to it what to you?
Because I want to know what to you means a
simple life, because I think mine is very different.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
She'll get it posted and you can check it out
