If Patterson's gonna collect one assist after every three games,

Somebody offers you eleven point six million a year. You're

like Petterson gives the puck away here. Okay, fine, now
the backchecks are that's that's Besser in the middle of
the ice. He's beaten them back on the four on
the backcheck. Should that happen? I'm not I'm not so sure.
But look, look, can we look at it again like
for people might might have missed that. So there's the

Petterson giveaway initially, and then the two of them start
on the backcheck about the same right there. From about
the same spot, you know, Brown the goal line and
Bess's hustling his butt off there.

And I know there are other people you can blame
for this goal, whatever the case may be, but Best
is not the fastest guy, and they're well, he's busting
his ass there.

And you mentioned about booying Patterson. This is an intelligent
hockey base fan base. This isn't Carolina and Columbus. People
know hockey in this market. And if you and as
Brian Burke used to say, Donnie, if you are going
to have a big contract and underachieve, the worst place
in the world to be is in a Canadian.

I just told you I can't believe he's off to
the start he's been off to.

I see, Surewood is making one point five million, He's
got three goals. He's your top forward right now. Garland's
the other one. And these guys are a one point
five million dollar forward down should not have more goals
than the guy making eleven six.

And it's very very early. I get that you mentioned
Garland there. Sorry, Yeah, Garland zoned out for a second.
But I tweeted this out last night. We got the
tweet Bunny Chance, right, but I tweeted this out last night,
something to the effect of Garland and Sherwood. Can you
just not play them for the full sixty minutes? Because

they stick? Oh there he goes. It possible for the
Cuttucks to play Garland and Sherwood a full sixty minutes,
and there's a lot of people agreeing. Obviously it's tongue
in cheek, but man, I'm noticing those guys and they hustle,
and it's.

You know, Garland's in the top six right now, and
sure what's not? But man, he's got an extension coming Sherewood.
What's going on with that? They haven't had meaty talks yet,
but it cost him. It's gonna cost him if you're

josh Ron. They got burned.

But I'm gonna tell you right now, they have touch
base with the new agents for Surewood, but there's not
been meaty talks.

And there'll be competition for yeah.

goals and lead the NHL and the hits, you're gonna
get paid. You're gonna get paid. And he's on pace
for obviously more. But back to your tweet. These guys care,
they compete, they try, there's passion, there's heart. Why can't
every forward on the Canucks do what Garland and Sherwood do?

Why is this so hard for that passion and heart
to be there for the other guys?

Okay, Keith for Sherwood. Here he is a postgame clip.
Keith for Sherwood, two goals last night he leads the
Canucks in goals and points with three goals, zero, zero assists.
But here's Keifer on a tough outing for his team.

I think we got to be ready for the puck drop.
It's a probably constant theme here and everything. It starts
I think with our just saying structure and our systems
and from there just executing our passes. You know, when
we don't execute, then we're chasing, and then we lose
possession and we got to work twice as hard to
get it back. So you know, we know they're a
rush team and we just we gave him too many
looks tonight.

And no shortage of people wondering when is Adam Foot,
who's come outed a little bit of criticism, when is
he going to play key for sure in the top six? Yeah,
and he's right hand or right wing. I don't think
there's anything. We just mentioned Garland, who's in who's in
the top six and then Besser, So maybe that's a
bit of an issue for the Conduction in terms of

moving Sherwood up to the top six. And we did
notice yesterday, well everybody noticed to watch that they switched
the two top centers, they switched linemates.

But in the second period, the good teams don't have
guys making one point five million in your top six.

This goes back to what we that is that that
is like the no, it's so what you got at
one point. What does it say about your other top
six guys When a guy making one five says they're
underperforming what I'm making, well, it does matter because that's
that's not how it is. That is how you build

a team. That is for sure what it sets an
example for everybody, including the highest paid players. This is
the way you play. I don't know who gets what
what he what he's making.

I love him, but he can't be your best player.

I can't that. But if he's outperforming them, of course
he goes in the top six.

We said this in September. This is not a good
top six, this is not a good forward group. They're
going to struggle to score goals and everything we said
is now coming to fruition.

like the contract that you know, blame the people that
signed the contract.

on foot, I'm not overly patient with this team. These players,
this selection of players outside of vander Kine have been
here how long under how many coaches and it's the
same results out of one Yeah, okay, up Stair, Sure,
but you're the head coach, right, so you're the one
in front of the mic. I don't think you should
baby these players anymore. These these coaches, they're so worried

different results.

That's the problem. And that's not that's not Betterson's fault.

Since this regime has ultimately brought the same team back
basically year over years since Benning left.

This regime's got one playoff appearance in four years.

It's not good. It's Benning, Jim. It is same as
Jim Benning. But I mean, I guess the biggest mystery
with all of this, I know we're over time, but
the biggest mystery is how do you get over one
hundred points? Like even the season ninety eight, we ain't
well eighty nine. But the strangest thing to me is

that the season where a lot of us me a
lot of people criticize them for the contract wasn't a
bad season. The end of it was bad, yeah, really bad.
One goal in the playoffs, and the second half of
the regular season wasn't all that great. He's still got
eighty nine points.

He has figured out since that whole group went to
the All Star Game six Yes, that moment you're saying
going to the All Star Game was bad, Well that
was the point where since that time, since that time,
out of that and this is where the EP fans
that want to tell me it's only three games. It's
not three games. It's three games this season. But it

goes back since that All Star break. Remember that game
in Carolina. You can look at all the statistics from
that point on. They all fall off the cliff since
that time. Playoffs, regular season doesn't matter. Since that All
Star break. The key is to send your players to look.
Since that time, the coach is gone, one of the
players is gone.

The other key, of course, is if somebody is up
performing everybody, he can't go in the top stopped on me.

Tony. That's the Florida Panthers. I mean, yeah, they got injuries,
but they don't have like like, let's be honest, the

for sure, not great for your team. Remember it's not great.

But somebody's forming your highest paid players, they get a promotion.
It would work that way in every business. But you're
sitting there, you want you You think Peterson should talk
talk to the media. You think that Adam Foot should
criticize his players. Why wouldn't you want Keif for Surewood

in your top six when he's outperforming everybody. You're like,
so the key is to say the right things to
the media. No, I think you're I think you're both right.

right in what you were saying that based on merit,
he should get promoted, yes, but ultimately the structure of
the team, like Rick saying, that's not a good one.
Broad here to be an energy guy. Exactly why you

Exactly, soph he's outperforming everybody to say, no, sorry, sad, sad,
it's a sad reflection, but it's reality and it's a promotion.
It's a move that would happen, not just in any
in the world of sports, any business. Somebody's up performing

forty nine years, this is playoff appearance six. So you
have to have that context. I think for folks that
don't understand, you guys understand, you've been You've watched it
from afar and and it's been tough for Mariner fans.
It really has been. In a lot of years. We
get to September and the you know, the calendar changes,

it turns into football season NFL in college, and we
move on. The last few years they've been at least
in it in September, and then obviously this year getting
in for the first time in three years and only
the second time in the last twenty four years, are in,
but not only the end. I mean obviously, what they're
doing is you know, for this franchise, historical, just being
two wins away from getting to their first ever World Series.

I mean, listen, we joke about it all the time,
like we all know the Canucks haven't won a Stanley Cup.
But you've been there. You know, you've been there, You've
you've at least had a taste of the finals. This
is an organized that has never gotten past the Alcs,
and they're two wins away, and with the next three
at home, they're two wins away from getting there for
the first time. So you can imagine the city's just

having a ton of fun with it. A lot of

The combination of pitching and hitting is incredible. The M's
got four homers already in two games and their bullpen's
only giving up one run in nine innings. Like this

For so many years we said what would happen if
the Mariners got to the playoffs with the rotation that
they have. And the funny thing is the rotation this year,
same names, same faces, same players. It just hasn't been
as strong in the regular season. Some guys were banged
up and injured. Some guys went through a couple of
little spells here and there, and some downtimes. But you know,

the thought of, wow, the best, maybe the potentially the best,
at least on paper, starting rotation in baseball getting into
the postseason would be a daunting task for an opponent,
and it's proven to be that way. The home runs
are interesting. There's a nerd stat out there that the
you know, the nerds, the baseball nerds, baseball guy we
like to call him, has and it tells you that
teams that hit a lot of home runs that are

dependent on home runs, and Seattle was number two, I believe,
behind only the Yankees. Now it's ironic the Yankees are out,
but Seattle was number two in terms of the run
the percentage of runs that came in the regular season
via the home run. But those teams traditionally have success
in the playoffs, and we're seeing that right now. You know,
you get to the playoffs, shorter bullpens, shorter rotations, better

pitching in theory, and so stringing together innings with hits
and runs and things like that. Playing a little bit
more small ball doesn't always translate for Seattle. They hit
the long ball. That's what they do. They do it well,
and they've proven that so far in the postseason. So
you know, everything you thought going in is proven to
be true. Great starting pitching, bullpen's been lights out, and
the fact that they hit long balls and hit home

runs has really translated to playoff success.

All right, Seahawks be Jacksonville. Sure is nice when you
can get seven sacks on Trevor Lawrence. That's sure helps,
you know, and holding them to fifty nine yards rushing,

Rick, what a difference a week makes. I think a
week ago we're talking about what repino Seahawk defense. Baker
Mayfield just ripped them apart. And Mike McDonald is known
as a defensive coaching Good for him. He challenged these guys.
They're still missing some key guys with their spooning love
in the secondary. But they were great, you know, and
a lot of it came from I mean, the first
play of the game was a sack, and that was
a coverage sack. Trevor Lawrence had almost seven seconds to

Byron Murphy finally got to him. And that was the
first of seven that you mentioned. They did a terrific job.
They'll give up some yards, but not you know, try
not to give up big chunk yards. Lawrence looked confused.
You don't win many football games going one for twelve
on third down conversions, but that's what Seattle did because
of that defense. And then you know, Sam darl made

plays when he had to. The pass at the end
of Barnard to basically kill the clock and get the
field goal to made it a two score game was massive.
You know, they still have to spread the ball around
a little bit more. We saw Cooper Cup getting the
en zone for the first time. Running the ball still
a challenge. But if the playoffs were to begin today,
the Seahawks would be the five seed in the NFC.
But it's a crowded NFC, like it is. Everyone's bunched

up there, like everyone is bunched up in the NFC
right now. But yeah, they they really bounced back. They'll
have a nice test on Monday. They play Monday Night
football against Houston, and the Texans have a good defense.
But maybe it's funny. I mean, Seattle just keeps winning

seems to be an issue. They're one and two at
home this year. But I'm beaten on the road. So
we'll see if they can maybe change that next week.

But they all got to mix together. But I didn't

least notice him. Peterson not so much like I. You know,
and I don't know. I'm sure it's a hot button

be I just just a couple turned the clock back
a couple of years ago where he was a force
every night. His shot was threatening, his vision was threatened,

You may not go in the net, it may not

least notice him. I honestly, in watching Vancouver's games, I

Well, you know when guys kind of it's all right
for a forward to get lost, we call it lost
in coverage, right, they get they get lost in the ice,
they find a little hole, they jump in and away
you go. But you know that's not his game. And
if that is his game, then he needs somebody to
play with to get him the puck. You know, I
look at I live in Toronto, so everybody talks about

William Nielander. Kneelander is a guy that's on the outside,
but he springs for breakaways. He's got a great shot.
When he does move his feed, he's impactful, right because
he's strong on the puck. I think Patterson is that
type of player as well, where you know, he needs
to be threatening with his shot. He needs to use
his speed or at least his quickness agility to find holes.

(56:30):
But if he's not playing with somebody, or somebody's not
getting him the puck, then it comes back to the
word getting lost. And that's not a good thing. When
when you're getting lost because you're not involved in the play,
you're trying to find holes, You're trying to find places
where the puck is going to go, and it doesn't
go there. You just become you know, these are harsh words,

but useless in the play. And you know he needs
to find a way to, you know, either support the
play and come up with it, use his speed, use
his smart I've always thought that, you know, he had
a really good high IQ brain for the game, thought
the game well. And you know, I just feel like
when I see top players struggle, I see them thinking

on the ice instead of reacting, and you know, that's
kind of what I'm seeing with him, Jamie.

A couple of weeks ago, you mentioned Thatcher Depko possible

and three. He's clawed his way back into that American

Just you can't ask for two better starts from my
Dempco unbelievable.

on Demco. Demko has been brilliant. He has been one
of the shining stars you know in watching these games?
Does it concern me because you know I expected more
of the Canucks, I really did. I expected them to have,

a real threat, a threat in the Pacific. I don't
think they've found their game yet, but you know there's
a lot of teams that can say that they're they're

But I haven't loved their game. I haven't loved their
team game. I haven't loved their top players outside like
I love Quinn Hughes. I think even if Hughes has
an off night, you can see he's still trying. But

I just Demko has been brilliant and if he continues
that type of play, you can't play every night. I
know Lanken had to play yesterday, but you know, if
he gives you at least an opportunity to win every night.
He damn near stole that game in Edmonton. Like legitimately,
I thought that was going to be a stolen game
because they were just barely getting stuff by him, and

it took traffic and you know, a little bit of
luck on Edmonton's side to finally get breakthrough on him.

know you trade Dylan Cousins for Josh Norris. Josh Norris,
I believe. I read the stat that has played four
games for the Buffalo Sabers total, and two of them
he's been heard in. So I really feel for Josh.
He's a wonderful human and a great player. But you
know you had to take a look at his medical
history before trading for him. You just it's unfortunate everything

that happens in Buffalo goes the wrong way. And they've
got some great players that they've got to make a
decision or Alex Tuck has to make a decision depending
on restrictive free agent. Like I say, they got some
good players there, but they you know, I would argue
that it's Kevin Adams that's probably on thin ice. Now
you got Yarmo, keck a line and kick on there.
But Yarmo, you know, Yarmo built Columbus, but he didn't

build them into a perennial wet winner. I think Yarmo's
an unbelievable judge of talent, but I don't know his
track record for manager is I think average at best.
So you know, we'll see if he's the guy who
takes over. But they certainly need something to jar that
organization in a positive way.

my opinion but in the next little bit, probably in

the next two years, you're going to see the salaries
get out of whack as the cap really shoots up.
So you're gonna you know, people are talking about the
Caprice off deal being the outlier, but you know there

that are on term right now, the Mitch Marners and

for you know twelve will call it in that area

are going to be bargains in a couple of years.
But in same with Lane Hudson. I think the deal
was really good for both both because Hodgson gets a
real big payday, but they're also going to have a
value contract in the next couple of years when the
