the show Monday through Fudday, ten am to noon on Check.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
I think you're gonna want to hear this.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Your local sports coverage lives here.
Speaker 4 (00:20):
Sure what I says to an overly curved super blade
do nothing Blue?
Speaker 2 (00:24):
With Don Taylor?
Speaker 4 (00:26):
I say that the winner of the draft lottery should
be the winner of a two man loose.
Speaker 5 (00:30):
And Rick dolly Wall I had a cherry tree, little Ritchie.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
I used to go up that tree and just sit.
Speaker 5 (00:35):
There for hours and bunch on those cherry years.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Donnie and Dolly.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
Ten o'clock in downtown Vancouver, run of Paul Carton Studio,
Banks and tuning In. Folks, It's Donnie and Dolly the
team on Check. Don Taylor, along with Rick dolling Wall.
Ryan Henderson is our producer. He's the man at the controls,
our director. The voice of God is Derek Wong. How
are you, oh, lovely? Can I start a five game
row trip tonight in Dallas? It's a five o'clock puck
(01:04):
drop Star is off to a three and zero start.
More on that in a second, But we want to
tell people that at the bottom of this hour, Brandon
Coots is going to join us. Drafted fifteenth overall but
the Canocks back in June, solid training camp, solid preseason,
played three NHL games now back with his junior team,
(01:25):
the Seattle Thunderbirds, and he expects to play a couple
of games back with the Thunderbirds this weekend down in Seattle.
Brain's going to join us. At the bottom of the hour,
I tweeted out that it was live from Seattle. We
actually recorded the interview. I'm not sure why I tweeted
that out, but you want to listen from what he
has to say about Keiefer Sherwood. So that's at the
(01:46):
bottom of the hour. Meanwhile, as I said, Canucks versus
a very impressive Dallas team. We all know how well
they've done. I'm sure they're disappointed, but how well they've
done the last few years. Their lineup is just so
it's the Canucks and Stars to kick off that five
game road trip, they play in Chicago. Do the Canucks tomorrow?
(02:09):
Dan Murphy, our friend from sports Net Trivia fans, the
first ever guest, Yeah you want Donny and Dolly back
in twenty twenty one, He's tweeted out the lines, Rick,
without looking at your notes. We'd like you to go
through the lines. Because Murph only tweeted out the numbers
of the players.
Speaker 5 (02:29):
I can't believe Murph did this, Like, I mean, I
had trouble with this.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
Ryan get her up.
Speaker 5 (02:33):
Look at So okay, so you guys, you're the numbers guy. Okay,
So well the big news here, I'm not gonna do it.
You do it because I'm gonna screw this up. I
don't know everyone's numbers. I don't know them, and we
appreciate the honesty. Yeah, yeah, okay, So a couple of
big things here. Look at that first line. It's Peterson.
(02:57):
His struggle is well documented.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
More on that later, which we expect on this show
and pretty much every other show sports show in Vancouver.
So Petterson between Drew O'Connor and Connor Garland. Adam Foot
at practice a couple of days ago hinted that he
likes Garland with Peterson, but we didn't hear anything about
O'Connor being there. Surprised, Well, they want he wants speed
(03:23):
with eleas Petterson.
Speaker 5 (03:24):
Don don don your number one center is struggling offensively,
So you're putting a fourth liner with them. Explain that
to me.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
Speed.
Speaker 5 (03:31):
Okay, I get the speed portion of it, but he
doesn't have the scale. We've been through this and the
Canucks keep playing fourth line guys in the top six
and it's mind boggling.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
Don Well, there are conn sids who would tell you
that the entire team has made.
Speaker 5 (03:46):
So just vision Pitcher, Peterson and O'Connor on a two
on one tonight, Peterson over to O'Connor. I mean, come on, man,
the guy was signed for a four.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
Right off the bat, there's a two on one and
Petterson and sets up o' connor for the game's opening goal.
Speaker 5 (04:02):
How is this going to help Peterson get I just
told you how he doesn't.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
He's not He's not Rick Tockett. I mean, if he
was still here, he'd be talking about him. He's not
moving his feet. Drew O'Connor, say what you want. Look,
damn got much to choose from. Okay, he moves his
that's the pots speed. I understand this. And Connor Garland
has been, you know, one of their best players. So
that's I have issues with.
Speaker 5 (04:26):
He drives play more. The better way he does he
goes and gets the puck. He's gonna do the dirty
working front of the net in the corner.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
No problem with Garland. So your second line then, as
part of the top six heatled between debrask and Besser.
We saw that against Saint Louis. The big surprise here,
the other big surprise other than Drew O'Connor playing on
that first line. Look at that third line, Rattu Sherwood
(04:53):
on his right side. Evander Kine drops from the top
six to that third line, number ninety one, your lucky number,
program wreck.
Speaker 5 (05:02):
Do you think Cain thought he'd be on the third
line of Vancouver like everybody thought when they acquired Kine.
There's a nice top six piece, right and Kine needs
a good year tonight this year, Donny to get another contract.
He's a UFA. He needs to score twenty twenty five
to get a new deal, whether it's in Vancouver or
on July first, he needs to score twenty twenty five
to get a new deal and some decent money.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
So that's that's my So do you think kin is
looking at this? And Attu?
Speaker 5 (05:28):
Ratu is not a play making center. He's a guy
that wins face offs, but he's not a play making center.
And So I'm just wondering what's going through Kane's mind
as I see this line.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
But you do you think it's not warranted. Vander has
had a tough start, okay, and he's turned the puck
over a lot.
Speaker 5 (05:46):
On the power play, he has turned the puck over.
I will give you the power play. I will give
you that. I will give you that, But I just
that's not the playmaking center to get Kane the puck tonight.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
Foot Adam Foot hinted at this after practice a couple
of days ago that that Evander Caine was going to
drop in the lineup. But you know what, if I'm
an NHL player, he had dropped to the a third
line that includes Key for Surewood, who's again right there
with Garland arguably the Cannock's best player so far. I
(06:16):
might be okay with that. Yeah, well, go look at
the centers that King played with in Edmonton and you.
Speaker 5 (06:21):
Tell me he stopped on He'd scored a lot of goals,
especially the playoffs, so playing with quality centers.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
So he came to Vancouver thinking Patta Petterson was going
to be McDavid.
Speaker 5 (06:33):
He came to christ I'm going to be in the
top six.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
Bottom line, it's one game. And here's the other thing.
Sometimes a demotion works to inspire a player kicking instead
of sulking or crying to your agent, like play better.
There's nothing he can he knows that is not stupid.
He can be And his ice time in Edmonton was fine.
I mean he was one. He didn't play the regular season, right,
(06:59):
I know, but he was. He had a good start
of the playoffs last year, big time uh Sassin, Matt
mac Sassin up from Abbitsford. The Abbey guys with Baines
and Carls. That's the Abbey. That's that line that drove
up front anyway, drove helped drive Abbitsford to the Cold
Cup title last year.
Speaker 5 (07:17):
Doney, there are six Abospher guys in the Vancouver lineup tonight.
Six six good thing. I don't think it's well one
of them isn't there?
Speaker 1 (07:25):
Rick?
Speaker 5 (07:26):
I know Lakaramackie healthy scratch tonight. What's going through that
kid's in mind right now? At karam Makie.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
I'm not playing tonight and I'm upset.
Speaker 5 (07:34):
He just can't get footing with this organization up high.
If you're not gonna play him and you're gonna healthy
scratch for Karamaki, send him down to Absford. Has anybody
looked at the Abosphord roster in game, don stop? Has
anyone looked at the Abospord roster? It looks like an
East Coast Hockey YAGU roster. So your priority is absphere, No,
it's not. Priority is development and playing. If you're gonna
(07:56):
sit la Karamackie, get him down to Abbey playing twenty
minutes a night, they could use him. I don't know
if you've seen the Abbey roster, Donnie. I don't know
how the hell many Mohultra won two games.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
I thought this was the I.
Speaker 5 (08:08):
Thought this was the Abbey roster. But anyways, if you're
not going to play the Karamaki, get him down to Abbey,
give him twenty twenty five minutes a night.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
Okay. So there goes what a lot of people wanted,
at least for one game. And that's Lecermackie on the
left side, shoot his spot, the Avegkan spot on power
play one. Yeah, Cain was moved off that spot during
the Saint Louis game, and I believe it was Heatl
who took us. He didnt take us, so We'll see
(08:36):
what happens with the with power play one thatcher Demko
starting a goal. We didn't mention the defenseman.
Speaker 5 (08:42):
Wreck and the defenseman go like this forty three seventeen.
Everybody knows those numbers. That's he was in ironic. And
then Marcus Patterson.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
Nine MP twenty nine.
Speaker 5 (08:53):
So just Marcus Patterson with Myers. So you got the
two big guys together and look at this. This one
is going to be interesting, Donnie, keep an eye on this.
Elias Patterson the defense with Mancini. Two young kids in
the third pair. Your third pair should be if they're
really good at the NHL level, giving you thirteen to
fifteen minutes tonight. That's when the coach trusts the third pair.
(09:14):
Watch that young pair tonight.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
Let's see, especially against the powerful.
Speaker 5 (09:18):
Powerful Dallas team. They've scored fifteen goals in three games.
They're gonna be throwing. They're gonna have to You cannot
play for defenseman tonight. At some point you're gonna have
to play these guys. You wish them all the best,
But that's a very young, inexperienced third pair for Vancouver.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
Pierre Olivier Joseph is on the trip veteran defenseman is
on the trip coming off an injury. Obviously by this lineup,
he's not playing. No, he's not. And Forbert is on
the IR Donnie for people who don't know Derek Forbert
made official yesterday, placed on the IR. He won't be
eligible to return to play a game until Sunday in Washington. Right,
(09:58):
all right, that's right? Anything else? Uh, that's it? Uh No,
I can't think of anything else. Well, we've got two hours.
I can't wait. I just can't wait. Goal. Well, let
let's do this. Thatcher Dempko returns very impressive in his
first two games, right, coming off the paplataas all right,
(10:20):
so very impressive in his first two games. We've got
this clip here, the one where he talks about the team.
We talked about this before the show. Derek's got it
under control again, Ryan right after bat in a bad mood. Okay,
So thatcher Demko uh returning to play for the Knnucks
after Kevin lank And started against Saint Louis, and Thatcher Dempko,
(10:43):
despite what you might think the Knnucks one and two record,
he sees promise with his team.
Speaker 6 (10:50):
I've seen the kind of the skeleton of of some
really good things. I think just the consistency level of
our execution maybe, you know, I think that the positive
thing for me is just the things that have been
lacking are things that are super correctable, and so I
think that, you know, that's that's gonna come. Hopefully, you know,
(11:11):
we can address those things, and we have in video
and things like that. But yeah, those are easy things
to fix. And I mean, I think, you know, we
had so much moment I'm going for us in the
preseason games, and I think it's gonna take much to
kind of get back to that level and having that
swagger as a.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
Group Thatcher Deempko, boy, the could get back to having swagger.
You gotta get it. You gotta pile up a few
wins that are to have swagger. But to thirty five.
Speaker 5 (11:36):
People, do you want to touch Dempko in the US
team now or later?
Speaker 1 (11:40):
Let's do it? Okay?
Speaker 5 (11:41):
Uh? The US expanded roster for the Olympics came out
today Thatcher Dempko and Brock Bester on it invitations invitations.
Both were not invited to the US camp in the summer.
Dempko has caught the attention Donnie of the US, the
Americans with his play early. Stan Bowman watched him at
Edmonton when he was on Leabel last Saturday. Dempko is
(12:02):
in the mix, I'm told this morning from the Americans,
one hundred percent for sure, Bess's a guy they're watching.
If Besser keeps scoring, they can't ignore them. So they
they're very happy with Bester start. The Americans. They're very happy,
very happy when Dempco start.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
So Besser and Dempko on the radar for the American team. Yes,
and the Board of Governors met yesterday in New York,
and among the topics discussed speaking of the Olympics, that
arena in Milan is having construction issues and they're wondering
if it's going to be ready just before the Olympics
in order to test it out. You know, the belief
(12:37):
is it will be ready that arena in February for
the Olympics, but will they be able to play games.
There's one there's a tournament that was have been shifted
from that location. It's going to be elsewhere. Well, we
can't talk as Canadians because nineteen seventy six Montreal, the
Big O wasn't completely wasn't one hundred ready, That's right.
There was an update to that this morning.
Speaker 7 (12:59):
By the way, the IOC telling Pierre the brun there's
now an event planned in early January, a test event
planned in that arena early January.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
Yeah, and there were also concerns with Soshi back in
twenty fourteen, but it all got done. Here's what's coming
up on the show.
Speaker 8 (13:14):
Is any Olympics ever like super smooth like Vancouver well
snowing event Ryan, things go a well the snow, but
construction wise, the one thing that really stuck out for
me was the arm that was malfunctioning.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
At the opening ceremonies, right, there was that, But yeah,
the lack of snow. Obviously they had to haul in
snow from Manning Park, remember that. Yeah, just like, was
this like the warmest winter on record or at least
in a long time? DTMZ is it just me? Coming
up in the eleven o'clock hour, John Shannon is going
(13:50):
to join us Love John just after eleven o'clock his
take on the ratings for the rating the alcs. Oh,
who won last night? You go thirteen to four off
Quiet Blue Jays over the Mariners. Who's leading that series.
So there's that. But the ratings in Canada are almost
as big as numbers wise, raw numbers wise as they
(14:12):
are in the States. It's almost like the Blue Jays
are Canada's team. Well you know that's what the ratings
tell you, don't but no, well they also tell me
just how much interest there is in the States in
this in this series Big Ride. The Twitter guy coming
up later this hour, we mentioned Braiden Coots, Seattle Thunderbird
slash Vancouver Canucks. Braiden kind enough to join us. He's
(14:33):
gonna you'll hear from him rather at the bottom of
the hour, and up next from TSN Farhand longs is
he down in Seattle? Is he covering the Mariners? And
Jay's no, okay, so Farhand's gonna talk maybe a little
baseball because he's one of these guys like me. You know,
just because you're Canadian, you don't have to pull for
the Blue Jays, you do. So he'll talk about that
(14:54):
and some well, the BC Lions are going to get
some help, some injured players are coming back for that
big against Edmonton Friday night at BC Place. Farhands next,
Thanks so much for tuning in, folks, Donnie and telling
the team.

the Blue Jays come back in that series with their
first win of the series over the Mariners thirteen to
four last night. Thanks for doing this, sir, How.
Speaker 9 (16:36):
Are you Well that's excited then you might be describing,
but I'm doing good.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
Otherwise. It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood.
Speaker 1 (16:42):
You know, Is it okay for a Canadian to pull
for the Mariners versus Canada's team, the Blue Jays?
Speaker 9 (16:49):
Well, of course unless you're Rick, right, I mean, Rich's
gonna pull up the flag and misguidedly so.
Speaker 3 (16:54):
But yeah, I think it is.
Speaker 9 (16:56):
I think there's a lot of things that can determine
your fandom. And you know what bothered me as much
as anything, it's just the arrogance associated with Toronto fans
who just believe that the fandom is about being against
Toronto when like I've enjoyed watching the Blue Jays and
have supported them for years, like well before I understood
the concept of the center of the universe, so you know,
(17:17):
going back thirty years to the nineties when they were good,
but even before that, right, just I look, I like
the Mariners a lot. With the extent of the fact
that I'm only so limited in baseball, like my interest
in baseball is limited, right, So am I.
Speaker 3 (17:33):
More interested now than I was in July? Sure?
Speaker 9 (17:36):
But the thought that I'm only interested now because they're
playing the Blue Jays is fantasy.
Speaker 3 (17:41):
And you know, I go to a couple times a year.
Speaker 9 (17:43):
You know, if you follow me along like last year,
the year before, like, you'll get positive posts and feedback
about the Mariners, because I do have an affinity for
that team, and I do have an affinity for sports
in the city of Seattle.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
You okay, with all the criticism you've received online, justified but.
Speaker 9 (17:58):
So well point right, Like I don't appreciate the racism,
and I you know, there are certain things that look
like if you want to dunk on me, if the
Blue Jays come back and win the series, fair game,
Like I'm here for that, right, But you know the
other stuff is probably needless.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
And so I did feel a need to put something.
Speaker 9 (18:15):
Out the other day on social media, not because I
felt like I was a victim or something, but I
wanted to make the point that this isn't anti Toronto,
like I do like the Maritters and have for a
long time, and you know, if you just make certain assumptions,
you're you're probably wrong. But yeah, like I'm all in
on the criticism, but there are limits to all of it.
But I you know, mute and block are powerful buttons
(18:37):
and it kind of feels truthfully, all kidding aside this
is it doesn't feel any different th when Vancouver played
Edmonton in the playoffs two years ago, because those are
two disgusting Twitter fan bases, right, Like, not the fan bases,
but the Twitter bases are gross. So if you say
something that could be construed to support for the other,
the other side.
Speaker 3 (18:53):
Will be all over you in the worst possible way.
So you know, there you go, Well, good for you.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
Because when it comes to me wanting the Mariners to
beat the Jason, it's all anti Toronto. Like I'll admit that.
Speaker 9 (19:07):
Yeah, but Toronto's a great city and like, you know,
it's a great city. The here's the anti Toronto part,
and I said this in my rant, is that it's
it's the oxygen that the team gets and the understanding
that or the expectation that we're all supposed to get
on board. And that's not reasonable because you can cheer
for you know, you can share for players and teams,
(19:27):
like if you if you're even Cole Harbor Nova Scotia,
if you're from Nova Scotia and Edmonton plays Colorado in
a playoff series, you might be more attached to McKinnon
or Crosby than you know, like if whatever, if they're
playing Colorado or if they're playing Pittsburgh or whatever. You
you might just have different reasons for attachment. So, but
the amount of oxygen and the Raptors don't get this
(19:47):
because the Raptors season aligns with the Leafs, so they
have to fall in behind the Leafs all the time,
and the Leafs have to be done for the Raptors
to take up oxygen, whereas the Blue.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
Jays get it. And it's just a massive amount of it,
and it's just too much for me.
Speaker 1 (19:59):
Right.
Speaker 9 (20:00):
So, and as I've said before, like we all have budgets, right,
you guys have a budget. I know yours is limitless.
You're able to hire Henderson, but we all have budgets.
So the more you spend on this area, it means
you spend less there. So if I don't get to
cover an NFL game because we're spending money in airtime
on the Blue Jays. I don't want the Blue Jays
to succeed and it negatively impacts the CFL, Like, there's
(20:20):
just no way around that. I know what the ratings
look like when a CFL game goes head to head
with the Blue Jay game, especially in Eastern Canada, And
you know, you're like, what the fact that this isn't
a sweep and there's a game on Friday, Fortunately it's
a three pm local game, But what would that have
done to the Lions Elks ratings? Which is a big
CFL game. And some people don't care about the CFL
(20:41):
find but I do. So your fandom should be about
what resonates with you.
Speaker 5 (20:45):
All right, let's move over to the hockey team here, lots,
let's twoe into some meaty stories with the Canucks. Patterson
has struggled early, and we find out this morning from
Murph and Dallas that he's going to be playing with
Garland and O'Connor, So expect nine points out of all
three of them. Anyways, not what are you talking about? Well,
(21:05):
Patterson and a slow start? What's going on there?
Speaker 3 (21:09):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (21:09):
Look, you knew that this was gonna be a talking
point and was gonna be scrutinized heavily early in the season,
and quite honestly, no different than it was last year
because it was the first year of the new contract
and he was coming off a bad year.
Speaker 3 (21:21):
Now this year, there are no excuses because.
Speaker 9 (21:23):
He's been healthy and he's added the six kilos and
you know, all of that kind of stuff, and he
looked relatively good in the preseason. I don't know that
he looked like you know, Pete Petterson from two years ago,
but he did look like there was some improvement there
to build on.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
And we've seen nothing right, Like, he's just not been noticeable.
Speaker 9 (21:37):
He hasn't been bad, and I understand that they you know,
they are still controlling shots and expected goals when he's
on the ice, but we just haven't seen him with
the puck. So for me, playing him alongside Garland makes
a lot of sense because Connor Garland likes to carry
the puck, and Connor Garland is a good retriever of
the puck and Dre O'Connor has some of those same traits. Now,
you want him to have somebody next to him that's
got a little more offensive upside. But if he's going
(22:00):
to go and fish out the puck and do some
of the dirty work to try to get the puck
to Garland and Peterson. Maybe it's gonna work. You know,
Besser and Peterson worked early in their careers. It hasn't
worked in the last couple of seasons. I'm not big
on Besser and Debrusk being on the same line because
I just think it's a set of redundant skill sets, right, Like,
they're both valuable, but not together because they play the
same game. So I don't think they compliment each other
(22:22):
well necessarily, but right now, until Peterson feels more confident
and more hungry to carry the puck, I want him
with someone like Garland who's willing to carry the puck.
Speaker 5 (22:31):
All right, let's talk football. Big football game coming up
on Friday night, Lions and the Elks. Boy, that Western Division,
it's gonna be really really tight down the stretch. Two
games to go with lines right in the mix. If
they win out their final two, they get the playoff
date at home, right, So just give us a little
insight into that battle in the West down the stretch.
Speaker 9 (22:52):
Yeah, you know, Rick, when you look at Nathan Rourke
against the Elks throughout his career, it's been unbelievable, right,
I mean, this guy, he's five to zero against Edmonton lifetime.
His offensive scored forty two and a half points per
game during those games, which is ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (23:08):
And it goes back to twenty twenty.
Speaker 9 (23:09):
One before his big year, where you know, they just
decided they were out of the playoffs. They were going
to shut Mike Riley down, and he plays that one
game against Edmonton.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
And set the world on fire.
Speaker 9 (23:18):
And then you know, you know, even going back to
last year right early in the season, so that was
all there. No, sorry, not last year early in the season,
but in twenty twenty two. So in this season, it
was an entirely different team because they played him twice
in the first seven games before Cody Fajardo took over
as quarterback, and coming out of a bye after that
second loss to BC, Edmonton's team and their defense specifically improved.
(23:42):
So I'm interested to see how Nathan performs against this
version of Edmonton's defense, because they're much better than what
he's faced before. Now, look, I think Rourke can move
the ball against everybody. He's playing the game at a
ridiculous level right now, and BC's going to improve along
the offensive line, getting Broxton and Allen back at the
tackle spot, so you.
Speaker 3 (24:01):
Know it's going to be even that much better in
my mind.
Speaker 9 (24:04):
But Edmonton's fighting for their lives right like they can
still get into the playoffs. Their coaches got them bought in,
and I think they're going to get a really really
good version of the Elks and it should be a
lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
Yeah. You mentioned Edmonton's turnaround a defense. Same thing with
the BC Lions. Yeah. Also you mentioned a name there,
Dejon Allen, big off season signing, offensive tackle again, big
free agent signing. We're gonna have Ryan Rigg Maiden on
the show tomorrow, Lions general manager. But he has been
practicing all week. What do you expect from him, farrhand,
(24:34):
I mean, that's an important.
Speaker 9 (24:35):
Position, Yeah, it is, and he was their biggest offseason
acquisition and two years ago was the league's most outstanding lineman.
And really he's been wanting to play for the previous
two weeks, Like I have talked to him and he's
just like, no, I'm ready to go.
Speaker 3 (24:48):
I want to go, and they've been kind of holding
him back a little bit.
Speaker 9 (24:51):
Knowing this buy was on the horizon and so he's
not being rushed back.
Speaker 3 (24:54):
Now, might there be some rush and timing, but.
Speaker 9 (24:57):
Potentially, But you know, when you have this situation, and
he's got the ability to be even better come playoff
time because he's going to be fresher compared to everybody else,
right because the rest of his body is in a
pretty good place, whereas all of these offensive linemen right
now or you know, battling a shoulder, battling a knee,
battling hips or whatever. And I'm not saying anything specific
to a specific player, it's just the nature of the position.
Speaker 3 (25:18):
So he has a chance to be even that much
better come playoff time.
Speaker 9 (25:21):
So I think it's a positive for BC that they're
going to be that much more healthy there. And when
you look at their roster, you know, outside of Christoph Bollyu,
they're as healthy as they can be. I know too,
Heima's out, but they may have upgraded there with Bell
and and I or they certainly haven't downgraded. And you know,
certainly Jackson Finley's a very good player as well, so
there's not a real huge.
Speaker 3 (25:41):
Drop off there.
Speaker 9 (25:42):
So compared to other teams around the league and looking
at all their injury lists. The Lions are in a
pretty good place health wise going into the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (25:50):
Okay, and boy farhand, third or fourth time this year,
they're expecting me a crowd pushing twenty nine to thirty
thousand at BC place.
Speaker 9 (26:00):
It's right, you know, and it's a testament to Amar
Doman and the work the Lion staff is doing.
Speaker 3 (26:03):
But also for the fans to stay engaged.
Speaker 9 (26:06):
You know, I'm as critical as anybody at earlier times
in the year when they won't come out, But now
you know, there's a big game, there's a little more
at stake, and it's a final regular season game, and
I think they want to come. And certainly, if BC
winds up hosting the Western semi you know, if things
go well, they could push you know, thirty five thirty
eight thousand, right, which would be which would be pretty good.
So let's let's hope it continues to trend that way
(26:26):
because those are football fans.
Speaker 3 (26:27):
They're not concert goers. They are people that have the
ability to buy season tickets next year and to kind
of carry this forward.
Speaker 1 (26:33):
Fran thanks for this all the best. Go Mariners.
Speaker 9 (26:36):
Let's do it Mariners in five. No need to go
back to Toronto for anymore games.
Speaker 1 (26:42):
Thanks Fran next week. I have a nice stay by,
appreciate it. Oh what's the matter?
Speaker 5 (26:46):
What do you tell he puts out of a video
that's four hours long, you know, and then about this
Mariner stuff?
Speaker 1 (26:53):
I mean, who does that? Frin? Yeah, exactly, I know.
It's just explaining it. First of all. You know, the
race is comments that he received on Twitter, in express Twitter,
so there's that there's some emotion there. I understand what
he was twenty he was up to, but I get
the feeling that there are a lot of people out
there who haven't looked on a map, especially people on
(27:14):
the East Coast or in Toronto. Seattle's pretty close to Vancouver,
to BC, and some people are Mariners fans, more more
so than Blue Jays fans. That's the way it goes. Okay,
we're good, take a break and up next from the
Seattle Thunderbirds. Oh yeah, recently sent down and sent back
to the Seattle Thunderbirds by the Vancouver Canucks. Braiden Coots,
(27:37):
Braiden's Next, Donnie Dolly, the Team, Why Jack Thursday and
all today's guests, including Braiden Coots standing by brought to
you by the Vancouver Giants, celebrating anniversary twenty five. The
g Man back at the LAC this weekend. Tomorrow they
(27:57):
take on WINATCHI seven pm, Madison Hat in Town puck
drop four pm. The first fifteen hundred fans to either
game we'll get a twenty fifth anniversary hat. Visit Vancouver
Giants dot com for ticket info and to check out
their theme night schedule for this season. Our next guest
knows all about the Giants in the Western Hockey League.
(28:18):
It's Braden Coots, Seattle Thunderbird center, drafted fifteenth overall by
the Conduction June. You know the story, folks, Solid camp,
solid preseason, three regular season games with Vancouver. He's now
back with the Seattle Thunderbirds. Braiden, thanks so much for
doing this, sir. How are you? I'm good? How are you?
Thanks for having me very well, getting drafted, going to
(28:39):
an NHL camp. I just said it's solid preseason, you
play three NHL games. Can you put into words what
the last three or four months have been like for you, Braden?
Speaker 10 (28:50):
Yeah, they've been pretty crazy for sure, a lot different
than any other summers I've had or anything like that.
But you know, again, drafted, going to development camp and
then going to the World Junior Camp, and then going to
UH Seattle then and then Vancouver training camp and then
(29:11):
preseason and then getting some regular season games. So pretty busy,
but that's usually a good thing, So it's been pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
How did you react to the news of getting sent
back down to the key Birds.
Speaker 3 (29:24):
I was fine.
Speaker 10 (29:27):
I knew, like, you know, it was fun being up
and playing with the guys and getting to play in
the regular season. I mean that's been my dream since
I was a little kid, you know, So, but I
was more than okay with it. I knew it was
probably best for me, and you know, getting playing more.
I can have the pocket my stick, you know a
(29:47):
lot more, and you know, scoring more goals and making
plays and working.
Speaker 3 (29:51):
On my skills.
Speaker 10 (29:52):
So yeah, I was more than okay with it.
Speaker 1 (29:56):
In line with that, Braiden, what if the Canucks told
you what do you have to work on? Oh?
Speaker 10 (30:03):
Not like I mean, just like just overall everything. It
wasn't really a specific thing. They were very happy with
how I played. They you know, told me to come
down here and dominate and play my game and keep
working on everything, and you know, try to keep keep
getting better each day.
Speaker 5 (30:23):
Hey Brandon, Uh, the Vancouver leadership group, I mean when
you were up, your teammates must have helped you a lot.
Speaker 1 (30:30):
The coaching staff.
Speaker 5 (30:31):
What do you say about all those guys that helped
guide you in, you know, an eighteen year old into
the NHL.
Speaker 10 (30:38):
Yeah, it was great that we had. We have obviously
a lot of a few older guys there that have
been in the league for a long time and been
in Vancouver for a long time, so you know, in
training camp too and just getting to know me. There's
you know, Keith for Surewood was one that was awesome
to me. He was, you know, first aid training camp.
(30:58):
He felt like my teammate and it was so easy
to talk to. He was on my line too, so
that obviously it made it easier to get to know
him right away. But you know, there's so many guys
on the team that were that were great to me.
Speaker 5 (31:13):
You know, a breaking eighteen year olds eighteen year old
in the NHL.
Speaker 1 (31:17):
How close do you feel? I mean like you did
really well. I mean you were the number one story
in Vancouver for a long time. You must be thinking,
you know, I'm gonna go to Seattle work on my stuff.
But come back next year and be there all season.
Speaker 10 (31:31):
Yeah, for sure. I mean I for sure still have
work to do, There's no question about that. But you know,
I think I'm pretty close. Like I think, just you know,
tuning up a few more things, get faster, getting stronger,
I mean, just the normal getting older too, just in
general as a human being will help. And coming down
here in Seattle and you know where you need Shay
(31:52):
to get better, playing good, winning games here, trying to
drive the bus here with this team and be good obviously,
but no, yeah, still tons of work to be done.
But yeah, I think I can make that jump next year,
and it's on me to make sure I'm.
Speaker 3 (32:07):
Ready for it.
Speaker 5 (32:08):
I think a lot of people are rooting for you
to play for Canada at the World Juniors, Braden. Is
that one of your goals right now too as well?
Speaker 10 (32:17):
Yeah, that's for sure number one goal right now.
Speaker 5 (32:20):
You know.
Speaker 10 (32:20):
It was, you know, it was when I was supposed
to stay with Vancouver and then came back here, which
was fine, and then you know, even in the summer,
I had my have my mind on trying to make
the team this year for World Juniors. Obviously not an
easy team. To make, you know, with Canada, because we're
so good. It's it's been my goal and I want
(32:42):
to do that. I want to help him win because
we've been struggling recently so it's been tough, not fun
to watch, so you know, I want to help him
out and I want.
Speaker 1 (32:51):
To go medal thunder Bird's host Prince George on Friday
when actually on Saturday, will you playing on those games, Brandon?
From what you know, I will be yeah, okay. And
as far as where you grew up the Ebonton area,
Sherwood Park, Alberta. We see your dad on social media.
What can you tell us about growing up there? I
mean it's hockey country and the influence your father had
(33:12):
on you.
Speaker 10 (33:14):
Yeah, it's like you said, it's hockey country. It's all
there really is there is is hockey and the oilers.
So it was great growing up there in Church Park.
It's a very big hockey town. That's you know, basically
the main thing there. I love growing up there. I
still love going back in the summers. And yeah, my dad,
(33:36):
he was he was my number one supporter. You know,
still is same with my mom. You know, he still
helps me out every day with you know if it's
anything to do with you know, my debit card or
anything like that, and all those things that you know,
maybe obviously don't get looked at, or just things behind
(33:59):
the scene that he helps me with. So yeah, he's
been I wouldn't be here with without him and my mom.
Speaker 1 (34:05):
Okay, Braydon, Finally, you're in Seattle. Any chance you're going
to be able to catch a ball game down there?
Do you have any ends with the Thunderbirds, the Mariners?
Blue Jays guy?
Speaker 10 (34:14):
Right, Yeah, I wanted to go. I didn't realize their
plane last night. I would go tonight, but we play tomorrow,
so I wouldn't go tonight. But I watched the game
last night. I know my GM was at the game
bill yesterday and he was he's pretty disappointed today so
(34:35):
that the Blue Jays loss. Yeah, so are they won? Sorry,
I don't know why he's disappointed.
Speaker 1 (34:44):
Actually, but all people in this area are split. They're
either Blue Jays fans or Mariners fans. And there's not
automatically blue Jays fans because they're Canadian. Hey called the
Canucks management. They have those guys, Ruth the third, They've
got some connections.
Speaker 5 (35:02):
They'll get you tickets, get tickets, get tickets.
Speaker 1 (35:05):
You probably don't want to do that, Okay, okay, Braiden,
thanks for this all the best. There's so many people
here that are pulling for you. Thanks so much for
doing this, my.
Speaker 10 (35:13):
Friend, oh problem, thanks for having me.
Speaker 1 (35:17):
Braiden Coots doesn't turn nineteen? What a mature young kid
doesn't turn nineteen until February again. Back with the Tea Birds,
they host Prince George on Friday, when acchily Saturday. You
hear Braden say there that they that he expects to
play sixty three points in sixty games with the team,
including twenty six goals in sixty games last year with
(35:39):
the Thunderbirds.
Speaker 5 (35:40):
Absolutely, he talks like he's been in the NHL for
ten years. Done, mature, as you said, smart kid on
the first kid at the rink, last kid to leave
the rink. This kid gets it. He's a dream draft pick.
Speaker 1 (35:56):
Meanwhile, let's show the lines again if you don't mind
guys going into Tonight's says we switch gears here a
little bit. As we switch gears here, Canucks playing in
Dallas tonight against the powerful Stars team that three games
in which they've scored five goals one of the games
was a shootout. They love to fill the net. Yeah,
so up against Dallas tonight, Murph has tweeted out the
(36:19):
Lions And you've been studying the last half hour and
now you can tell us I've big news from today.
I've converted regarding the lines and the numbers and all that.
My dad's got to be better. He's got to post
the names. He's got the time.
Speaker 5 (36:34):
So the top line, Peterson, who's struggling one assist in
three games, just a big news here. So what do
the Canucks do? They put Garland on the right side
now is shoes that? Now they put that Drew O'Connor,
don Drew O'Connor on the left side for Peterson.
Speaker 1 (36:47):
Well, if you're going to demote Kine to the third
they did, which would be a better choice, keep yours there.
It's just that you know your number one center, number
one centers. Letal Does the call Radawa Avalanche have a
fourth line guy playing on the number one line? Do
the Edmonton Oiders have a fourth line guy playing on
the number one line. You have a centerman who is struggling, I,
(37:11):
I and you. He needs skill, he needs he needs
to get to the puck to the wingers who need
to put it in the back of the net at
of foot hasn't got much choice that put O'Connor could wheel,
and that's something that Patterson can't do, at least hasn't
done for a long time. If ever, I understand.
Speaker 5 (37:28):
There's not much choose from this and that, and then
it's not the coach's fault, that's the GM's fault.
Speaker 1 (37:33):
So the other move is Evander Kine being dropped down
to the third line out of the top six. That
leads to a Wattling Dog poll question. Experience one of
Victoria's iconic destinations, sleep sip stock up. We're talking about
the dog all in one, legendary spot. Come sit and
stay at the Waddling Dog. Today, Rick Ryan got her
(37:53):
up the Wattling Dog poll question. What's the biggest story
from the Canucks game day skate this morning? Is it
the new line mates for Elis Petterson or is it
Kane in the bottom six? And no question here, seventy
five percent it is the new linemates for Peterson, and
then twenty six percent Cain in the bottom six.
Speaker 5 (38:12):
Three hundred votes. We put it up late today, but
there you go. The Canucks game to y skate this
morning and.
Speaker 1 (38:18):
Tell us I have a possible solution, which are Elias
petterson struggles. And we'll talk about that in an open
segment in the eleven o'clock hour. And you just hope,
just hope that word of this solution gets to Rutherford
and Alvin and Adam Foot. Yeah, they'll I think they'll
(38:38):
they'll appreciate that. So we'll do this around eleven fifteen
or so. Okay, all right, we're good. I think they watch.
I think they watch. I think they'll know what you're saying.
I think they watched their last interview. Business October twenty first,

that in your pipe? And smoking? Stop it.
Speaker 5 (40:37):
Put Colson shill is nowhere near a point per game, guy, Donnie, Like,
come on, in NHL contract extension, he's got one assistant
three games.
Speaker 1 (40:46):
Come on, I understand given what he's got to work with.
Why Adam Foot and look at my last shift. Why
Adam Foot would put Speedy O'Connor, which sounds like a
TV show Speed Winds with EP forty big Rye and
man is that manow and Chill like, yeah, I don't
think it's Who was the conduct name? Bob Mano defenseman. Yeah, yeah,
(41:10):
he was good. Always wear Bob Mana for a couple
of things. Ryan's rolling his eyes right now, go go
down memory memory lane. Bob Mano connuct defense Canadian. But
he played for Italy's national team, right, he wasn't going
to make a team Canada. And if I'm not mistaken.
When Tiger Williams was acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs, Bob,
we'll stop it right now, Ryan yawning over there, Bob
(41:34):
Manna was wearing the number twenty two. Tiger had to
wear number twenty six and off that Rob Man thousands
of dollars to switch. That's right, Tiger was yeah, Oh,
Tiger eventually got twenty two. I'm not sure exactly how
her Bob was still with the organization.
Speaker 5 (41:49):
And Tiger best goal in Knuck history Maple Leaf Gardens,
riding the stick. Oh, I could watch.
Speaker 1 (41:54):
An overtime goal against Calgary, Oh and.
Speaker 5 (41:56):
Calgary eighty two and all that was here. He had
thirty five goals. Tiger is the best for me. Big
grab Twitter, guy coming up next tocha.
Speaker 1 (42:05):
You know what you know? Why is that fine? I
know you're educating, you're talking.
Speaker 5 (42:09):
Why did I learn you don't care about any former
connuction the seventies or eighties.
Speaker 1 (42:14):
You don't care about any of.
Speaker 5 (42:15):
Them because I know you're young, you're a young kid,
but you should know the history of the players back
in the seventies.
Speaker 7 (42:21):
Absolutely, absolutely, Tiger Williams is a legend in this franch
with the Canucks franchise.
Speaker 5 (42:27):
Oh boys, I don't get him on the show Love
Tiger time.
Speaker 1 (42:32):
And we're getting a couple. It was the year before,
we're getting a couple of thirty five goals. Yeah, the
year before he scored thirty five one year it was
just unbelievable. Well, it was unbelievable because you know, first
of all, great accomplishment, three hundred and forty three pending
minutes and thirty five thirty five goals when you're in
the that's a great one too, combo toughness and goals, Tiger.
(42:56):
I think we're at a time for Ryan Official.
Speaker 7 (42:59):
No, I was gonna talk about the Mariners, but we'll
put that aside because because okay, fine, well, I was
just going to bring up because we we haven't talked
about it a lot today. The Jay's getting back in
the series thirteen to four. They woke up five home
runs in the game. Uh, there was eight home runs
total in the game last night, tied for a playoff record.
Speaker 1 (43:19):
In MLB history in one game. Eight home runs. The
stat that blew me away, you know the stat that
blew me away, the.
Speaker 7 (43:26):
Two thousand and one one, which was so I've got
a tweet here on that, the one that was gotting
this made its.
Speaker 1 (43:31):
Way around something, the one this I saw this one.
Speaker 7 (43:35):
Only one team in postseason history has won a game
by ten or more runs after trailing by multiple runs
at the end of the first inning, and that was
the Mariners, and one they were down early. They ended
up coming back to win in the ALCS fourteen to three.
Speaker 1 (43:49):
But your stat George Springer. Yeah, twenty second playoff home
run fourth all time. Yeah yeah, now tied with Bernie Williams.
I understand people are gonna say, well, didn't play as
many playoff games back in the day. I just I
just wouldn't have guessed that.
Speaker 7 (44:03):
Yeah, But still, okay, I mean, plus you gotta remember,
like the Astros, I mean, I'd have to look, but
I don't think the Astros were involved in a lot
of wild card games, like.
Speaker 1 (44:13):
When they were in their peak.
Speaker 7 (44:14):
Like, it's not like he was gaining all these games
and they, I mean, they were really good. Well, this
stuff on it, by the way, to defend the Jays
for a second, this stuff out in New York. You
see all these people still with this conspiracy theory that
the only way the Jays beat the Yankees is that
they must have been cheating what Yeah, Craig Carlton, others
on Sports Talk, Yeah, sign stealing and also other things
(44:37):
that they might be just they can't believe that the
record that the Jays owned the Yankees on and it's like, Okay, he.
Speaker 5 (44:44):
Scored thirty four runs in four games.
Speaker 1 (44:46):
But that's why they think it's fit too fishy. But
last night look, they showed up. Yankees were relucy to
win the one game they.
Speaker 7 (44:51):
Did exactly exactly, So they showed up last night. The
Jays did. They broke out of their slump. I tell
you man, Julio hit that early home run and I thought,
and wow, I thought that, wait, this is actually gonna
happen for the Mariners, and it's not.
Speaker 5 (45:04):
So they came back and take notice what happened last night.
Your best player has to be your best player. Vladimir
Guerrero four for four, you know, and and a beautiful
homer stop seven before. It's if every team's best players
played the way they're supposed to be like best players,
that's what I gave one off the cycle for seven
in the first two games.
Speaker 1 (45:23):
I know, I know, but okay, iway say though everybody
got in last night.
Speaker 5 (45:27):
Everybody was in the right So eighteen hits, yeah, exactly.
Speaker 1 (45:31):
Everybody got off the schnide last night. So let's see.
Look another game tonight. And Bieber was good. He was
good because it looks Smoltz called it early. He was.
He was ripping him down. He said, oh, this is
not looking good. Bieber.
Speaker 7 (45:44):
Then he found his groove and they look at they
shut him out, They got a couple of the Mariners
got a couple of garbage home runs. Castillo versus Max Scherzer.
Tonight pitching battle probably goes to the Mariners. It'll be
a very interesting atmosphere.
Speaker 1 (45:56):
Team gave us won every game in both championship series. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
so it'll be interesting.
Speaker 7 (46:02):
And by the way, that ballpark is just gorgeous, like
the shots they're showing, the sunset and everything.
Speaker 1 (46:07):
Last night, the open home runs set, Yes, and the
pink mobile Yeah mobile sign a gem, just an absolute gem.
Speaker 7 (46:20):
And no matter whose side you're on, the fact that
we're close enough to have that that kind of stadium,
to us, it's a privilege.
Speaker 1 (46:26):
Okay.
Speaker 7 (46:27):
The other thing, the other big news, and this is
something I know Donnie's gonna love.
Speaker 1 (46:30):
The big news involved the Utah Mammoth. Last night. You
see this, Derek, You got this video of the Utah
video of.
Speaker 7 (46:36):
The the new mascot being unveiled, literally breaking out of
the ice.
Speaker 1 (46:42):
It's Tusky, the Utah mammoth mascot.
Speaker 7 (46:46):
So the Tusky name, by the way, beyond the tusks,
which is obvious, it also is uh points to tusks
up which is the team's slogan and rallying cry for
the Utah Mammoth Tusks.
Speaker 1 (47:00):
Did they come up with that before elbows up?
Speaker 7 (47:02):
I'm not sure. I'm not sure who. I'm not sure
who had the up advantage. But anyway, this thing's pretty cool.
Like I mean, he's looks.
Speaker 1 (47:10):
He's standing six foot five.
Speaker 7 (47:12):
Yeah, and look, you got to give them props because
mascots are for kids and when you have but when
you have a team called the Mammoth and their logo
is pretty menacing. Works to have something that's cute enough
that a kid would be okay to go up to it.
Speaker 1 (47:27):
They did a good job. They think kids would still
be freaked out by that. Yeah, maybe I think it
would be. Again, we're not targeted. It's not for us
to say whether this is a good or bad. I
could see kids getting excited by that.
Speaker 7 (47:41):
Look we take our shots at the Canucks, I will say,
And I know, maybe it was a happened. Finn is fantastic,
Like Finn is a fantastic mascot.
Speaker 1 (47:51):
Can play on the first line. He might, I think
should play on the left wing with he might need
to acquire them. But anyway, there you go to the
Utah Man debuting their mascot last night. Who had their
uniforms last night?
Speaker 5 (48:03):
Anyhow, Donny, he's the expert on Donnie is the expert.
Speaker 7 (48:10):
These were announced in early September, but debuted last night
for the Sand their third jersey.
Speaker 1 (48:15):
It looked like Calgary flame. But they're too red. It's
too I need shade too, I need shades. It's too bright.
You need what shape shades like? Sunglasses? It's too bright.
They're really I don't like bright too much going on.
I'm okay with it. It's it's a very I love
the logo. I love that very old school Vancouver. Very
Some people talked about Calgary, but Calgary is eliminated black
(48:38):
from the uniforms. I'm okay at this. Pops was the
only thing I didn't like. The numbers that should have
been yellow instead of black. It's hard hard to take.
I can see that. Hard to see them would want
to be a play by play guy.
Speaker 7 (48:49):
Yeah sure they'll sell, Yeah, well, they'll sell for sure,
but I just it's too red for me. Like I say,
when I saw this, they don't look good on TV. Well, no,
I bet they do look good on TV because colorable pause.
Speaker 1 (49:01):
It's the one day.
Speaker 5 (49:03):
It's highlights Bradawa last night. No, I tell you who
doesn't care about Travis Green's got to be pretty pissed. Uh,
Buffalo losing Buffalo for and now he's lost Chuck for
two months.
Speaker 1 (49:12):
Yeah. Yeah, Travis is in trouble. Yeah yeah, I mean
injury wise. Yeah. Well what are you saying? You think
you say he's gonna get fired? Nah? See this is
what I mean. No, I'm saying losing. Yeah. Your Travis
is a good guy. He's a good.
Speaker 5 (49:27):
Palamise, he's a friend of the show. He's a good guy.
Speaker 1 (49:29):
Yeah. We have the Ottawa's lines, just the numbers only. Uh.
Speaker 7 (49:34):
Coming up next, a good pal joins us every week
on the program. From hundred percent Hockey dred percent Canucks,
John Shannon, He's next.
Speaker 1 (49:41):

will get a twenty fifth anniversary hat That's appropriate Hat
in Town on Sunday. Visit Vancouver Giants dot com for
ticket info and to check out their theme night schedule
for this season. Just before we get to John Shanner
from the one hundred Percent Hockey podcast on Canucks Podcasts,
(50:47):
we have this graphic which has nothing to do with
hockey or the Canucks, but this is an indication or
this tells us what the ratings have been so far,
or at least in Game one. Right Game one of
the alecs over ten million people average viewers combined to
the US and Canada. And look at those numbers at
the bottom rick five point three one million in the
(51:11):
US for that game, and not far behind four point
seven to one million in Canada. And I don't know
how many people are aware of this, but the United
States much larger population. Oh yes, Canada, well almost ten times,
so surprising numbers. And with that we bring in John Shannon,
co host of the one hundred Percent Hockey podcast, also
(51:33):
known as mister Television. John. Thanks for doing this, sir.
Speaker 2 (51:36):
How are you?
Speaker 11 (51:37):
I am doing great boys?
Speaker 1 (51:39):
How are you so? Like? Is the city divided? Seriously? Oh?
Is it divided? Is it fifty to fifty? Though? I
don't know if it's fifty to fifty. I think there
are more Blue Jays fans than Mariners fans here, but
I think a lot of people across Canada, especially in Toronto,
I think a little bit surprised through social media just
how much Mariners support there is in Vancouver.
Speaker 11 (52:00):
Yeah, I don't think you should be. I mean, they're
the amount of games and the amount of coverage and
the easy access. I mean, heck, you know, going to
Seattle to watch a game is fun and there's always
in the regular season at least there's always tickets available,
so and it's.
Speaker 1 (52:13):
A great place to go.
Speaker 11 (52:14):
I mean, it's just it's no different. If you can
combine after September, if the team's playing, if you can
combine a Seahawks game and a Mariner's game, that's that's
a pretty good weekend.
Speaker 1 (52:25):
Yeah, and you know, the reality is a lot of
people myself Rick include I've seen way more Mariners games
than than Blue Jay's games. What do you make of
those numbers, John, those TV numbers, they're so close.
Speaker 11 (52:38):
Well, I think the number that was on the right
hand side, the four point seven to one for Canada,
is the one that jumps out. You know, Rogers has
done a very good job in promoting this ball club.
I think that the one of one of the little
secrets that they have done is they they allow the
Fox Show, particularly the two games that were on over
(53:02):
the Airfox on City TV, and then that allows them
for cable substitution and therefore Canadian ads on the US broadcast,
so that you know, in many ways, Rogers is double
dipping and getting double revenue from advertising, and it's a
pretty smart move. It makes a ton of sense and
(53:23):
it helps so you have a choice if you want
to watch the Fox version or you want to watch
Dan and back. You have a choice, and it works
out to I think, to the advantage of the Jay's owner.
Speaker 1 (53:36):
Game four today in Seattle Hockey John NHL Board of
Governors meetings yesterday, Gary said they didn't talk about expansion,
but they did talk about the situation with the Olympics.
What are you hearing regarding the arena in Milan or
things going to be ready to go for the men's
hockey tournament and the women's hockey tournament.
Speaker 11 (53:57):
Well, it better bed and listen. This has always been
an issue dating all the way back to nineteen ninety eight,
is that in many ways, the National Hockey League is
a guest at the Olympics, and it's I'm sure rather
(54:21):
frustrating for Gary and the rest of the and the
owners to see their players be involved run the risk
of injury, and yet the league has little or no
say on how things are done.
Speaker 1 (54:35):
Very frustrating.
Speaker 11 (54:36):
The one thing we already know is that in the
NHL and ice drink is two hundred by eighty five,
and we already know that it's not two hundred by
eighty five in Milayan. It's going to be one ninety
four by eighty five. So there are there are obviously
issues that have come up that the league has absolutely
(54:57):
no control over, and I'm sure for Gary that's very frustrating.
Speaker 5 (55:01):
Hey, John, you know the Vancouver start back to back
losses here a lot of heat on Petterson. You know
a lot of people are on the NHL are talking
about it as well, John, But yeah, a lot of
people thought this would be the year we see the
Petterson of old, and it's not been a good start
for him.
Speaker 1 (55:18):
It hasn't.
Speaker 11 (55:19):
And you can see it by the way the lines
have been adjusted today again at the morning skate in Dallas,
that they're trying to get Petterson going somehow, some way.
You know, there's a couple of ways to look at it.
I can see how frustrating it would be. The other
(55:39):
aspect is that it's three games. It's three games, and
really it's if the team wins is at an issue.
So in the end, it's two games that are a problem. Now,
should he be better? Yeah, he should be better. I
mean he has to be better if this team expects
to contend. And and I listened to Craig yesterday. I
(56:02):
thought Craig was very fair that the bigger frustration now
isn't two games, it's you know, eighty four games. It's
how long has it been since Peterson has played at
the level that a new contract allows him to play
or or forces him to play. And that's that's really
(56:24):
I can see you can understand that frustration, you know,
on the on the other side, because as you guys know,
I'm always the cup half full guy. I like the
move of Heatle with Debrusk and Besser. I think there's
something there and I think that giving Philip heat a
little more opportunity to perform offensively.
Speaker 1 (56:43):
I think so positive.
Speaker 5 (56:45):
Hey, John carter Hart and Vegas looks like they're going
to get together and do a deal here here. What's
the reaction going to be like, I mean, I if
it's a Canadian market, I mean it might be a
whole lot more. Maybe it's not in a great hockey market.
But you just saw your thoughts on carter Hart in Vegas.
Speaker 11 (57:07):
I can I can understand the frustration of lots of
people who were, you know, upset and disappointed of what
happened in the London case. At the same time, carter
Hart has the right to earn a living. He was
proven not guilty in in by the judge in London.
(57:31):
He has been given extra suspension from the National Hockey League.
He can sign as of yesterday, but can't play until December.
So you have to weigh those situations. I would anybody
that's upset that he has the right to earn a living,
(57:52):
I implore them to read the court case, read the
judges verdict. I mean, it's nice, it's it's not short.
You're not going to be able to do it in
two hours, but read the verdict. Carter Hart has the
right to earn a living, now.
Speaker 7 (58:10):
Is it?
Speaker 1 (58:11):
You know?
Speaker 11 (58:11):
And there are lots of ways to skin this cat.
And unfortunately, the people that think that he shouldn't have
the right will be very vocal. The people on the
other side probably won't say very much. And we'll have
to see what happens. So I understand the anger. I
don't agree with the anger. I would say that I
(58:35):
don't think a Canadian team would have touched him for
that reason, Rick, I just don't think the Canadian team
would have touched him period. And I do know that
Kelly mccrimmin and George McPhee would have given this a
ton of discussion, a ton of thought if in fact
he does end up playing for the Golden Knights.
Speaker 1 (58:53):
Yeah, and we'll see what happens moving forward, John, because
at one time he was considered the bright light of
Canadian and what does that mean for him with the
national team.
Speaker 11 (59:03):
Well, so now Hockey Canada is a different animal, right,
you know, Hockey Canada and their role in all of this.
At a certain point, you do wonder if the five
players who are still under suspension from playing for Canada,
if they will ever be able to play for Canada again.
(59:24):
That's something that Kathy Henderson and her people at Hockey
Canada will have to think about long and hard, considering
what the public relations messaging will be. Again, you know,
we are we are a society of second chances and
uh and and Carter Hart has been found not guilty
(59:46):
and so he has that right to earn a living
and and you can't begrudge him that, even if you
find what went on as distasteful as most of us
did find it to be.
Speaker 1 (59:58):
Tough turrent, but uh, anybody in Toronto pulling for the Mariners.
Speaker 3 (01:00:06):
I don't think so.
Speaker 5 (01:00:07):
But I'll tell you what.
Speaker 11 (01:00:08):
The sun came out this morning because that was the
Toronto Blue Jay team that we saw for the whole
month of September and certainly again in the Yankee series.
And it all centers around one guy. Boys, It all
centers around one guy. Laddie plays and Vladdie hits. This
team can play baseball with anybody.
Speaker 1 (01:00:30):
Yeah, Laddie.
Speaker 11 (01:00:31):
Vladdie went over seven in the first two games. Yep,
and they had trouble scoring runs. It's all on Vladimir Guerrero.
If he keeps going, then.
Speaker 1 (01:00:40):
Watch out game for today. John, thanks for this. We'll
talk to you next week. Cheers boys, mister Television, John
Channon one hundred percent Hockey Podcast, one percent Canucks Podcast.

Speaker 5 (01:01:58):
Rick, all right, Ryan, get her up by Wattling Dog
poll question of the day and it centers around tonight's
Canucks Stars game.
Speaker 1 (01:02:05):
Ryan, Hello, up, get it up. I know, but I
can't add lib.
Speaker 5 (01:02:09):
I'm not a good ad liver.
Speaker 1 (01:02:10):
So how am I going to kill time? Anyways? Our
Waddling Dog poll question.
Speaker 5 (01:02:15):
What's the biggest story from the Canucks lines at game day?
Skate today? And new linemates for Eptor Caine in the
bottom six of Anderkine brought here to score goals in
the bottom six, Well, seventy five percent say the new
linemates for Peterson twenty five for Kin four hundred and
eighty eight votes.
Speaker 1 (01:02:31):
We put it up late this morning, but there you go.
So Caine with Ratu and Sherwood, who've both been both
been very good for the Canucks, you know, gosh, relatively speaking,
that's the third line though, Petterson with your friend Drue
O'Connor and Connor Garland. Yeah, Connor's there.
Speaker 5 (01:02:49):
So Peterson has got Drew O'Connor and Garlands as it
just said, no more Besser for now again it changed,
could change just shift to shift, could change period to period,
game to game, shift to shift.
Speaker 1 (01:03:02):
Okay, we're gonna see how tonight's game goes. Okay, So
I was I have this solution for Oh yeah, we're
gonna say that. Okay, right, right, what do you mean, well,
because we want to get this. I think you hinted
at this us having this, Okay, right, so let's let's
get this. Ray Ferraro yesterday was on Overdrive, the show
on TSN Radio in Toronto, right the trio of hosts
(01:03:27):
including Noodles, Jamie, Jamie Glen. Yeah. Okay, but last week
on our show, Ray talked about how, and this is
before the regular season started, before the Caducs first three games,
how he felt that Elias Patterson was going to get
eighty to ninety points, breakout, breakout. Okay, So Ray's watched
(01:03:50):
the first three games, and let's just say his optimism
and optimism has gone away. And I think you can
understand that if you watch the first three games, right,
if this is who he's going to be.
Speaker 3 (01:04:03):
They've got enormous problems.
Speaker 12 (01:04:05):
Because he's their highest paid guy. They're not strong in
the middle of the ice. He has to be their
best centerment. And if this is how he can play,
then like they're sunk. I mean, like how how are
you going to work around that?
Speaker 1 (01:04:21):
The glass half full is.
Speaker 12 (01:04:23):
That he's healthy and he was really engaged and skated
quite well in training camp. It's it's like the game
overwhelms him right.
Speaker 3 (01:04:32):
Now at times.
Speaker 12 (01:04:34):
And I'm really like, it's not like he had a
fifty point year and you're like, oh, maybe he could
get to seventy. He had a ninety point year, Like
where did it go?
Speaker 1 (01:04:44):
Did he did he get it?
Speaker 3 (01:04:45):
Did he get that?
Speaker 1 (01:04:46):
He was tipping up on it? For sure? He was.
I had a hundred points in the National Hockey League.
Speaker 3 (01:04:52):
Like how where does it go? Like? How do you go?
Speaker 12 (01:04:55):
But this is the thing I just cannot get from him,
is like it just it can't just disappear, can it?
Speaker 3 (01:05:05):
Like I I just I don't. I don't understand.
Speaker 1 (01:05:07):
I don't.
Speaker 12 (01:05:08):
I can't think of anyone that I would compare to
that sort of thing, you know, other than injury. Take
you you know, take a guy right out of right
out of commission. But he used to be used to
get the pocket and he'd he's not a super fast guy,
but he'd go north with it. He'd get himself into
(01:05:28):
a position to shoot it, he'd shoot it. You know,
he's not fast and a great player is Wyatt Johnston.
He's not fast, he's not big, he's not strong, like
like none of those things you'd go, you know, like,
oh this is why he's a really good player.
Speaker 3 (01:05:43):
He's just a really good player.
Speaker 1 (01:05:47):
Like Wayne gratzk strong like a yeah, not a bullet skater,
but he was just quick and he was on everything.
Speaker 12 (01:05:54):
Yeah, And and so I think if people are you know,
in Vancouver, of course the you know, the panic buttons
at eleven already and uh and it's because of what
Peterson has not been able to do out of the gate.
And so they can talk about the depth of the
roster and you know, all they've got really good goaltending
(01:06:15):
and Quinn Hughes hasn't had a very good start either.
You know, he's such a fabulous player. But you can
talk about all those things. But if if Peterson doesn't
get out of the mud there, I just don't I
don't see what the solution is.
Speaker 1 (01:06:33):
Ray went on to say that he feels that getting
Drew a connor on is the solution. So Craig Button yesterday,
Ray far Our today. We've been saying it all week.
There's concern.
Speaker 5 (01:06:44):
Do you just want Don the old guy to repeat,
reappear at the one hundred point guy. Nobody wishes anything
bad on this kid. You're making a ton of money
in a Canadian market, you're underperforming. Just be a difference maker.
That's all the people ask.
Speaker 1 (01:06:58):
That's it. I'm just capable. I think it's fair. But
I'm not so sure he's capable. He's done it just
because of what I've seen the last a couple of seasons.
And Ray mentioned something that so bang on, as Ray
often is. And again, I don't think anybody is blaming
Ray for making his forecast last week and seeing what
(01:07:19):
he's seen the last three games and changing his too.
But it looks like the game overwhelms overwhelms him. We
remember back in the day, I always say this. I
wasn't the only one in the old ten forties station
when it came to Alex Edler that you could almost
see the gears turning on the side of his helmet,
like overthinking the game, and Alex Edler overcame that and
(01:07:41):
the great defenseman in Cannock's history. But I feel that
way with Pederson, like he's just thinking so much out there,
and that's not always. I know it's a thinking man's
game to some extent, it is not always the best
way to go about things. I think the fact that
you know, time has gone on and most of the
news surrounding Lias Petterson has been disappointing that Ray and
(01:08:03):
JEFFERANIELI they forgot they got one hundred points. I don't
blame them, he had two points. Hard to believe. The
other thing I saw on social media yesterday and I
was thinking this as well, and Ray brought this up
with the boys from back east, who would you compare?
Compare hup to like who who was at the top
(01:08:23):
of the hockey world like LEAs Petterson was, or at
least close to the top of the hockey was, and
then dropped right off And the name Patrick Lawnee came up.
Now there were personal issues with Patrick Lawnee, but somebody
yesterday on social media showed a video, a highlight video
of what Lawanne was up to his first two years,
like a completely different person. Oh, like forty four goals,
(01:08:46):
thirty six goals, you know, just a goal scoring machine, amazing,
like beating people, you know, out skating people and to that.
To some extent, Petterson was like that as well. And
then he just he just fell off. Now again, I
know there were off ice issues with Patrick, so maybe
that's a little bit different. The other guy. Remember Jonathan
(01:09:06):
Chichu with the and never really you know, I think
he had a thirty five thirty six goal season after
that went down. Yeah, another player, And this is not
fair because we're talking about a Hall of Famer here
who was able to Like if he would have retired
at this point, he still probably would have been in
(01:09:26):
the Hall of Fame. But Timo Solani had some knee injuries.
I don't know how serious they were at the end,
but not actually not at the end. Just before the
lockout season. You had thirty two one season with Colorado,
we had thirty two points, just sixteen goals. He wasn't
the same player, and then the lockout came and it
(01:09:48):
was a good thing for him. He got holed physically
and went back to the Ducks and had a ninety
point season and went on from there. You know, one
of Stanley cup Ando seven had a Hall of Fame career,
So does happen very rarely. And but but you know
even more rare team who was able to bounce back
those other players didn't. But it's you know, our great
(01:10:10):
listeners and viewers can come up with other examples, other examples.
Those are the ones that were talked about yesterday on
social social media. So it does happen, but it's just
so extra frustrating when it happens to the team that
so many people in this market care about.
Speaker 5 (01:10:24):
And and Donnie's got seven years left and the Canucks
can't afford him to be average. The Canucks can't afford
him to be average. He has got to be a
difference maker. This team's in big trouble, big trouble.
Speaker 1 (01:10:35):
Okay, all right, you got some business, all right? Coronuction
Stars tonight absolutely five o'clock.
Speaker 5 (01:10:40):
But look at this check out the largest selection sports memorabilia,
autographed items, trading cards and collectible games of Western Canada
pastime sports Saturday November twenty second and Langley Jake debrask
exclusive in store signing Jonathan Lecara Maaki also signing in
Pastime Sports with details to be announced. And then you
got the big guy, Trevor Linden partnered up with Pastime
(01:11:04):
Sports for a private autograph event. Details on that available
at pastime sports dot C.
Speaker 1 (01:11:10):
A well, great submission from Abby Glenn. We'll get to
that in a second. But laptop in front of the laptop.
Speaker 7 (01:11:17):
There's a series one upper deck cards you guys opened yesterday,
on sale now at Pastime Sports. That's the far left,
in the middle Tops twenty twenty five baseball cards. We
know what's going on in the baseball right now. Jays
Mariners Tonight five thirty, Game four and Prism Rolling Stones
cards on the far right.
Speaker 1 (01:11:35):
It's only rock and roll. But I do like it
very good, very good, Abby Glenn mentioning Jimmy Carson's Oh
that's a very good I like that one. I liked
that submission. Chase he was a black Ace with a
connection the ninety four Cup run. This is from the
base side oceanfront resort inbox. But he was a one
(01:11:56):
hundred point player in Los Angeles, was part of the
Gretzky trade, went to EBB and had a very good season,
one hundred point season with the orders and then he
got traded to Detroit and just think things fell. I
won sixty nine point season after that, but wasn't the
same player.
Speaker 7 (01:12:10):
Regular viewer Dave the Snowy Guy sent in, and is
it just me with Lione comparison as well that you
brought up. Yeah, yeah, it is interesting when you look
at line, especially in the goals category. And again I
know off ice issues as well, but the goals category
you look and you do see the dip and yeah,
I mean.
Speaker 1 (01:12:29):
But the fact that you know, you had Jeff O'Neill
and Ray Ferraro there and Jamie mcclennan and then ourselves
and Craig Button yesterday. Well, no, just everybody trying to
figure out how often this has happened. Not very often. No,
people had to dig to think of, you know, players
that were up that high, near the top of the
hockey world and fell and Solanny got back there. But
(01:12:54):
again he was already he could get.
Speaker 5 (01:12:55):
Five Donny, Donny, he could get five points tonight. You
don't know that, well I do.
Speaker 1 (01:13:00):
According to you, stump it, he won't because he's playing
with Joe O'Connor.

They're gotting to break there. Okay. Katy Perry, you know
who she is? Dynamite song or something a fire I
kissing girl song? Yeah, this song? Yeah, yeah, we'll have
a you know, we'll update you in your songs. Katy Perry,
(01:14:59):
she living a teenage dream. That's one of is right here. Yeah.
Three months after she and Justin Trudeau dined together in
Montreal sorts of pictures right o, the pair enjoyed a
steamy excursion on Katie's yacht. You go look at that.
Where's the yacht? I'm not sure where, No, I owe
what part of the world. We know what part of
the world it is. It could be bank and photos
(01:15:22):
published the Daily In The Daily Mail last week, Katie
clad in a black one piece suit. That's her on
the left there. Thanks, I figured that I wrapped her
arms around a shirtless Justin wearing jeans. Wearing jeans, you.
Speaker 5 (01:15:35):
Know, well, who's wearing a gean on a yacht in
hot weather in the ocean Justin Trudeau.
Speaker 1 (01:15:40):
The pair was caught kissing. In one photo, Justin cradling
Katie's backside. The other, I wouldn't go, okay, yep, this
out incomes is both Katie, who's forty, Justin's fifty three,
enjoying the single life. She and Orlando Bloom we have
a daughter together, ended their engagement, while Justin announced his
breakup from his wife, Sophie in twenty twenty three. Neither
(01:16:04):
Justin or Katie have addressed their romance.
Speaker 5 (01:16:06):
But it's pretty sure there. It's obviously dressing something here.
Something's going on. Something's going on. Good for those kids,
Good for that aga in the jeans, Like, what are
you doing?
Speaker 1 (01:16:15):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (01:16:15):
If you're thinking that, it's in a hot place in
the water on a boat. It's like the guy that
golfs with jeans. I saw a guy, the guy that
goes to weddings, would you jeans? And the guy that
I saw a guy in jeans in the gym the
other day, stop it? What?
Speaker 1 (01:16:31):
Yes? Working out in jeans? Yes, and no he's not
a kid with the tie. Yes, the other day. I
swear to God, there are places you cannot go to
in jeans. That's one. Well, my concern here is if
you say you fell and you had jeans on. He
was sinking right to the bottom right away. Yeah, because
the jeans are not exactly they're not made for swimming. Yeah,
(01:16:55):
maybe he's getting up. Maybe this happened. No, I mean, yes,
he caught op. Judging by the far right photo, maybe
he got what here? This could be six in the morning.
We don't know he got the You don't know that. Yes,
I think it's safe to say. Why would you have
jeans on it six in the morning? Get not a
(01:17:15):
bad putting your jeans on? Going to the top of
the boats? Why your jeans? It's cold, it's cold in
the morning at six she's got on, or it doesn't
have on, doesn't have on? Good for justin, good for justin,
all the best of that, all the best. Yeah, I
saw guys skiing in jeans. Jeans. Yeah, golf was like
faue jeans. Remember the US coach at hockey used to
(01:17:39):
coach the kids and jeans.
Speaker 5 (01:17:41):
That's another place I said, no, no, I've seen coaches
on the ice with kids and jeans.
Speaker 1 (01:17:45):
It's a no no, said no no. And jeans used
to be so cool in the.
Speaker 5 (01:17:49):
Eighties you could wear it anywhere. But I mean now
it's weddings, weddings.
Speaker 1 (01:17:54):
I still stand by that decision.
Speaker 5 (01:17:55):
No, I thought I thought it was it was weddings.
Golf course him, do not wear jeans bottom cur hockey arenas.
Speaker 1 (01:18:03):
Coaches kids boats with Katie Perry. Some people were saying,
what if he didn't think it was going to be Like,
maybe he didn't know it was going to be taking jeans.
Speaker 5 (01:18:16):
On a boat in the first because if you think
you're just you're just going to have lunch or so
she just sprang it on them.
Speaker 1 (01:18:20):
Yeah, well yeah, just get the birthdays man, birthdays? Oh me?
Speaker 5 (01:18:27):
Yeah, all right, look at this. Uh it is what
Thursday October sixteenth? Six birthdays?
Speaker 1 (01:18:33):
Ryan? Who's it brought to you by Ricky's? Uh?
Speaker 5 (01:18:36):
These PI Services and No Frills Casino and Rulo Saskatchewan.
Speaker 1 (01:18:42):
It's are you and Richmond messed it up? Oh? Okay, yesterday,
I know, I know it's which one is it row
Low like? Or think of that, Think of Ron rowing
on a boat, the great Oilers goalie and coach. Yes,
(01:19:03):
mustache Mario and Richmond is the guy.
Speaker 5 (01:19:07):
Okay, this Calgary nat is the guy. This Calgary native
undrafted forward signed with the Canucks in the summer twenty eighteen.
In his first month with the Knucks, he broke his arm.
He was out twenty four games. Come on, criticis are
Come on, Donnie, I'm disappointed. He is currently a pup
(01:19:27):
on not just the same. No, he's not a journeyman.
Currently a part of the ownership group of the Olds
Grizzlies of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.
Speaker 1 (01:19:36):
You and I know where Olds is. I've been Olds.
I got a great story read in your area. Yeah,
I read the area. I got a great story. Good,
good palace. Who did he think for than the honey?
Speaker 5 (01:19:45):
He won an East Coast Hockey League title and American
Hockey League title and a Stanley Cup, won a very
few jbgle very very sad. I remember him breaking his arm.
He broke his arm twenty four games in he missed.
He missed twenty four games, right, I don't remember Google,
you better get this guy. Dis retired North Vancouver native
was the Canadian Junior A Player of the Year in
(01:20:06):
nineteen ninety two.
Speaker 1 (01:20:07):
Paul Korea Paul Korea Bingal.
Speaker 5 (01:20:11):
The Canucks selected this forward in round two the twenty
seventeen NHL Draft. He only played seven games for the
Canucks and then he went to Seattle Colon. Colon Boom done,
Pederson Draft, Peterson Draft. That's when Jim Bennings said, why
is no one drafting Colon?
Speaker 1 (01:20:26):
That's it, all right, disretires someone drafting. I knew it, man,
I did.
Speaker 5 (01:20:32):
Not stop it. Donny went fifth overall, everybody on connege.
Speaker 1 (01:20:35):
He's gonna be fine. Stop.
Speaker 5 (01:20:37):
Dis retired forward grew up in North Vancouver, played at
the North Show Winter Club. Later moved to Pentickton to
play for the Knights. Had one hundred and fifty two
points in one year.
Speaker 1 (01:20:47):
The Knight's not the vs for the night Time Ago.
Speaker 5 (01:20:50):
I said, Knights. One hundred and fifty two points for
the Knights. Come on, man, first NCAA college player to
be ever selected first NHL draft.
Speaker 1 (01:20:58):
Yeah, he's running into trouble. J Joe Murphy. Joe Murphy.
Joe Murphy went first overall, just I don't even know
how he's doing. You know what?
Speaker 5 (01:21:05):
There were stories on we we all wish he's doing
while he's a North Vancouver guy, great guy, great player. Okay,
this actor is one of my favorite actors of all time.
His first big break in the hit Bull Bull Durham
in nineteen eighty eight was Costner. It's not Costner, Ryan,
give me a break. He's the writer and director of
the nineteen ninety five hit dead Man Walking.
Speaker 1 (01:21:29):
He wrote it. Yes, are you kidding me?
Speaker 5 (01:21:32):
Both of you?
Speaker 11 (01:21:32):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (01:21:33):
He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actors No
for his work in Mystic River, Tim Tim, Tim Robbins
and what do You Tim Saw? Shank Got Redemption? Morgan Freeman,
You got Best Movie All Time?
Speaker 1 (01:21:47):
Yeah? What else do you remember? Tim Robbins for Rangers Fan?
He married Susans.
Speaker 5 (01:21:51):
Is a Surrender Sandray, Susan Surrounded.
Speaker 1 (01:21:56):
He married Susans and they were at every game in
the finale from ninety four the ones in Near Yeah,
he's a big ring. He was shirtless. Okay, last one.
Speaker 5 (01:22:06):
This American singer, songwriter and guitarists won the Best Male
Pop Vocal Performance of the forty fifth Annual Grammy Awards.
Speaker 1 (01:22:15):
When was that? But just never mind it. Give us
a year.
Speaker 5 (01:22:18):
God, I don't have to give you a year, because
you're gonna get it right away. He became obsessed with
the guitar after being inspired by the movie Back to
the Future and the music of Stevie ray Vaughn. What
his major label debut room for squares Mayor, John Mayor, Yes,
sad that you took.
Speaker 1 (01:22:39):
I hate the wrong button. Sad that all those clues,
but hard not for you to get him on the case. Crack.
I gotta say something today, okay, because I was listening
to the radio coming in rough and rough. I think
I hate to go mode because Mode used to do this,
used to drive us nuts. I think you missed one,
(01:23:00):
mister birthday. No, Christy Snow, Christy Snow from the Freest Company. Yeah,
oh man, the late Summers. I heard it today.
Speaker 5 (01:23:11):
Oh no, I'm gonna google it. I would never miss
Christy Three's Company. Best show of all time?
Speaker 1 (01:23:16):
You know, questioning how big of a fat October.
Speaker 5 (01:23:20):
Sixteenth good Works was at Summers? Oh she was the best,
Oh John, I hate doing it fully okay. Oh Three's
Company was the best just the best of all time. Okay,
I'm surprised you're doing that.
Speaker 1 (01:23:35):
Yeah, you hate it. I know. Sorry, I will never
do that. I will remember. I'm gonna make it out
of the correction now too. It wasn't fully. It was
mister Furley, Fernie and Foley. There was two of them.
Speaker 5 (01:23:47):
There was fern Oh, there was Roper. Yeah, Roper, Oh,
Roper was good.
Speaker 1 (01:23:52):
I don't think you was overtime. Okay, okay, let's go.
Fred Turner yep eighty two years old today? Is it
just me coming up? Bass player vocalist for the Winnipeg
band That's Gonna Play? I sold January seventy four in
the album Backman Turner Overdrive. This is Canada's bte O
and let it Ride. What on check? You're home for
(01:24:13):
solid rock and roll on a BC Thursday.
Speaker 5 (01:24:22):

(01:25:05):
a hotel, It's a destination. Come sentence Day?
Speaker 1 (01:25:11):
Is it just me? Rick? All right?
Speaker 5 (01:25:13):
H Ray Ferraro, hit the nail on the head EP forty.
He's got to be the driver of the bus, Steve
Shutzon Surrey. He's got a drive play, don He's gotta
look dangerous, drive play, do all that stuff and everything's
gonna be fine, And you know he'll get a lot
of people off his back.
Speaker 1 (01:25:27):
Just drive play. Yeah again, a lot of people thinking
that maybe he's no longer capable of that driving play
the sake of Canak fans. I hope he gets back
to being where he was a shade. Is it just me?
But in the old days they would say, are they
showcasing Drew O'Connor putting him on that first line? Donnie?
Speaker 5 (01:25:47):
They signed him to a two year deal of two
days after he got here from Pittsburgh and he's got
a no trade clause. How do you give a fourth
line or a no trade clause. I don't get that.
I don't get that. Louis Erickson once he signed her
all off a cliff Kevin and Langley as somebody stole
Louis hands when he got to Vancouver at the airport.
Speaker 1 (01:26:05):
Well, that's in reference to players that you know, I
dropped off exactly. But you know, Louie never got a
hundred points. That's special territory.
Speaker 5 (01:26:14):
He scored thirty six the year before he got to Vancouver.
Speaker 1 (01:26:17):
Geez from Surrey?
Speaker 5 (01:26:18):
Is it just me?
Speaker 1 (01:26:18):
But remember when Gretz he compared Petterson to himself in
a twenty eighteen interview. Cy, yeah, I do brackets. I
do remember that. We all loved him vaguely, remember it, Donnie,
And you know what, I don't think anybody questioned him.
We all loved him. You can see that. You could
see that at the time, Donnie. We all loved him.
Speaker 5 (01:26:40):
It's a smart player. We all said nice things about him.
When they got one hundred points All Star Game, everybody
was so positive. Just want to see that one hundred
point guy return. So I guess putting one of the
world's worst offensive forwards O'Connor to play with pd is
a solution. Let's all think the mighty management genius behind
the Cannucks franchise for the team they're putting on the
ice right now from a Peter North's stunt double. But
(01:27:03):
there it is, right there, that's a quite creative Peter
North stunt double.
Speaker 1 (01:27:09):
Donny.
Speaker 5 (01:27:10):
There he is Peter, not Peter North, but Peter Peter,
not Peter North, but Peter.
Speaker 1 (01:27:16):
Is agreeing with me. Peter. We'd be canceled. We'd be
canceled if that was Peter North. All right, there you go,
people googling right now, who's Peter North? Gosh, we have
so much here?
Speaker 7 (01:27:29):
Is it just me?
Speaker 1 (01:27:30):
Or Garth and Ladder? Have we read this? Is it
just me? Or? Kannuck fans have to drink some reality
water and realize an elite goaltender and defenseman with a
bunch of journeyman NHL players does not get you a
cup or into the playoffs. And I'll add to that
with Garth and Lander, they're also pretty young as well.
Very not just about the journeyman players surrounding Hughes and
(01:27:51):
Dimko absolutely.
Speaker 5 (01:27:52):
That's a great point. Carter Hart's got the right turn
a living and hockey fans have the right to heckle
them endlessly. Martin and north Burnaby.
Speaker 1 (01:28:00):
Break will wrap up the show and the poll question.
Next Donny telling the team on check Dog. Paul Ryne
get her up the waddling dog poll question. Here we go.
Speaker 5 (01:28:14):
What's the biggest story from the Canucks lines at game
day skate today? Was it Petterson's new linemates or Kane?
In the bottom six seventy five percent say the new
linemates for Patterson and twenty five for Kane. Six hundred votes.
We posted it up a little bit late today.
Speaker 1 (01:28:30):
Garland and O'Connor with Peterson. He did play with Garland
second third period against Saint Louis.
Speaker 7 (01:28:38):
You got some pictures, oh Ryan, where we're going? I'll
handle the Sorry, we're going overseas. I'll handle the first one,
all right. First one?
Speaker 1 (01:28:46):
Is it Scotland, Oh, Scotland, that we're going? This is
from Jack Hold.
Speaker 5 (01:28:52):
Then here here standing in front of the Edinburgh Castle
in the Old Town.
Speaker 1 (01:28:56):
How cool is that?
Speaker 5 (01:28:57):
There you go, Donny Dolly hat Yeah, got the D
and d hat on.
Speaker 1 (01:29:01):
That's from Jack the person on the right with the
Downey Deli hat. We haven't got that version of the
Downey and Deli hat. Yeah, we should get that version though.
Speaker 7 (01:29:11):
That's Jack from where He doesn't say where he's from,
but he just says that Jack from the Lower Mainland.
Speaker 5 (01:29:17):
Yeah, well, or the island, or the island, or maybe
in the Cariboo somewhere in BC up north.
Speaker 1 (01:29:24):
I'm jealous. That's a beautiful picture, by the way. Beautiful
Edinburgh is fabulous castles. We're going where we're going to Edmonton.
Speaker 5 (01:29:32):
We're going to Edmonton Commonwealth CommonWell Stadium one of the
venues I've been to.
Speaker 1 (01:29:37):
I've been. I've been there. Cannonball cam at the Lines
Game and CommonWell Stadium in July. What a beautiful photo
thanks to cam. Yeah, looking good in the hat there.
That's a real good stadium. That's that's a real good
(01:29:58):
Are you too?
Speaker 5 (01:30:00):
I went as a fan. I was in the beer gardens.
It was in the end zone and we just.
Speaker 1 (01:30:03):
Went what decade. I tell you something about that stadium.
It was built at a time and it was for
the Commonwealth Games. Yes it's the name. But when the
CFL was packing them in, everything was getting fifty thousand
game six. Of the thing is it's got the what
does you sell the track around there? Yeah? They further
away from the Yeah you are away?
Speaker 5 (01:30:23):
Yeah no, No, it's a beautiful stadium, well well constructed.
Vancouver could use an outdoor stadium like that.
Speaker 1 (01:30:30):
Not that size, not that size? What else? Anything else? Right?
What else? The third one? Yeah? One more photo? This
is unsigned though.
Speaker 7 (01:30:37):
Unfortunately that's sports page hat travels to Disneyland. Stay tuned
for the next destination. That's no name attacked, a well
traveled hat. So somebody sent that in without a name. Yeah,
come on, but they're in Disney that we really appreciate.
Speaker 1 (01:30:55):
Uh, you know people doing this? Is it just me
tas the Blueberry guy? This is interesting? Is it just me?
Petterson had a great start to the season up to
that hit in the boards against Calgary. I feel he's
been a little gun shy since the hit. Is that
the issue overthinking to avoid getting railed? The blueberry guy?
(01:31:15):
Remember the big hit? Right? Yep, he got rattled pretty good. Yeah,
so for thought? Are you in his position to get
rattled the way he gets? But here's my thing is
that that is food for thought. But if it was
a serious issue. He wouldn't be playing.
Speaker 5 (01:31:32):
He wouldn't be playing exactly you think list.
Speaker 1 (01:31:35):
Thanks so much for tuning in, folks. We'll talk about well,
we'll talk about ALCS and about the connection stars on
tomorrow's show. Who's Joey? Ryan Dempster is going to join
us on tomorrow show to talk baseball on behalf of
Ryan Derek Rick. Everybody here at Oh Boy and Check.
I'm don and you're up to dating the roll sports.
