Speaker 1 (00:57):
You're here? It's Friday. You're supposed to have Friday's off?
Speaker 3 (01:00):
Well, the special day today. The Canucks played so well
last night I thought it'd come in and talk about it.
I'm not saying that sarcastically by the way. A lot
of people might think that, But no, they played very
well last night, five to three over the Stars. They
were down two nothing. There was so much to be
positive about the comeback. They were on the road. The
(01:22):
stat lines for a lot of the players were excellent.
LEAs Petterson's game after scoring on his own own goal.
I thought he was solid, very solid. That block he
made in the in the second period.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
Had three blocks, three blocks.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
But I thought more than anything, well, first of all,
I'll mention something else. Their power play looked dangerous two
for three, although one of the power play goals was
Quinnhughes empty nette. But the power play looked dangerous for
the first unit looked dangerous for the first time this.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
Year, moving it around nicely.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
And it's amazing what happened well, moving themselves around and
the skill guys make smart decisions to the That's what
they did last night. But I thought, more than anything else,
and I tweeted this out last night, they looked fast,
or at the very least quit faster, quicker, faster than
they have been and you were ripping into the Canucks.
And to Adam food for putting I know he didn't
(02:12):
last all that long for putting Drew O'Connor in the
last on stop Mac Sassin plays scores a goal. They
looked way faster. He don't look fast. Last night. There
was a there was a lot there, man seeing when
he got on the ice. They're faster than I thought
they'd be.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
Okay, don So I'm going to ask you this, Do
not send Sassan back to Absburg. Keep them up, Donnie.
Did you see how he went to the open ice
on his goal and gave Myers someone to pass to,
banked off the boards. Great play. He scored like that
in Calgary the preseason. Why are the Canucks sending this
guy down to Abby? Bring him up, keep him up?
But I'll tell you why.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
That's at the expense of Electromackin.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
It's at the expense of Baines, Ratu and Carlson, who
need waivers. The only reason this kid's going up and down.
He doesn't require wavers. It's not I think he should
stick around. I think he shoul stick around, keeps the
sawing up, he backs defenseman back. His speed is great.
He's the fastest cannockt forward by a long shot.
Speaker 3 (03:07):
Don Well, doesn't it depend on how much money he makes, because,
according to you, the only reason a player any kind
of promotion would be based on his salary if you
make a lot of money.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
He's a fourth line guy. Last night, Don, and he
played a great fourth line game. I totally agree.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
But I've been saying this for a long time, and
he sticks out to me when it comes to their prospects.
He sticks out as much as anybody. And he looked.
He looked great last night. We're gonna hear from him
in a bit too.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
He's a full time NHLer. Keep that kid up. And
when Blueger is healthy, who goes down? I think I
got a pretty good idea.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Don, who we just talked about ki.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
I don't like the fact he was a healthy scratch
last night. DONK.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
See what you'd rather get him? Get playing time in
any time.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
He does nothing does for Laker Macki's development. Don sitting
in a press box eating.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
Popcorn although he had been playing right, Yeah, do you
know he played? He played with coots and an eighteen.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
Year old in the fourth liner put him in a
position to succeed, not fail.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
Because for you, it's not about the player, it's about who.
Because you're talking to the agents all the time. That's
not about the player, it's who he's playing with.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
It's so you think Lakara Mackie, he had zero shots
in the Saint louis playing a game because nobody could
get him the puck. He's a skilled shooter who needs
a skilled centerman to get him the puck.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Okay, we disagree on this sort of thing, but I
think to your point, Elector Mackie is not somebody who's
gonna and this is not a criticism, it's the type
of player he is. He needs somebody to feed him
the puck.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
I'll give you that, but sometimes you've got to make
things happen. Yeah, highlights, We're good, Derek, we're good.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
From last night in Dallas Rock and Roll, American Airlines Arena, Dallas, Texas.
Pick it up early first Maverick Bork centering pass. We
talked about this often. Eleas Petterson stick and in one
nothing stars unlucky one dying seconds of that opening frame,
Jason Robertson rink white right side to Miko Rantnan. He
makes it two nothing. It does so wearing Fabian Bruns
(05:07):
from the old number ninety six. Remember him, Oh yeah, undaunted,
the Canucks storm back in the second period.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
Evander Kine long bob.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
To Philip Headel, Boston beats Casey to Smith Heatl's third,
Caine's first completion, two to one, Canucks on the board.
Vancouver's powerplay look sharp last night. The LEAs Petterson back
to Quinn Hughes. Quin Hughes making moves and locating the
blade of Brock Besser, also his third. We got a
two to two hockey game in the lone Star State.
(05:34):
A little bit later, Tyler Myers ahead to Max Sassin
with speed, skating, shooting and scoring three goals in three
twenty six for the visitors. Suddenly the Canucks up three
to two. Later in the middle, stands of Peterson pressure,
Stars giveaway and Connor Garland takes advantage.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Look at those moves, the Garlandian one with his.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
First four to two. The Dallas crowd stunned two minutes
left in the third until four two until this Dallas
powerplay goalie pulled. Tylers sagain sets up Wyatt Johnson four
to three, and that's as close as they'd come. Quinn
Hughes adds an empty netter. Cadocks dropped the Stars five
to three there in Chicago Tonight, Chicago, Tonight.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
Chicago, Tonight up New West, right next to Muggs Joe,
one of your favorite bar. Oh I used to go
to Mugs and Jugs and then right next door to
Chicago Tonight and.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
Chicago started out at Mugs and Jugs, and there was
a door.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
Dunny, there was a door between both and we slide.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
In to the door and you were a regular there.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
Oh, every Friday, you're gonna say something about that. No,
you lost my train of thought, Donny. Nine points, No,
nine guys had a point. That's a total team effort.
One guy you didn't mention there is Dempko because I'll
tell you something done. But it wasn't in the highlights
the shots were he was actually shots were eighteen to
eight Dallas. When the Canucks tied it to to they
(06:54):
were nineteen to nine at halfway midway through the game.
He held the fort goal before the Canucks got going, Hey,
you know what that is? Rick?
Speaker 3 (07:04):
What is me not saying anything or not put him
in the highlight package is just I think there's a
even though you know it's somewhat of a comeback season
for it is a comeback season from at least it
looks like it's going to be taking in for granted,
you just expect them to play well.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
He is off to a great start and he bodes
well for the Canucks.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
Some of the stat lines for the Knucks last night,
a whole lot of positivity surrounding this club. But Tyler
Myers one assist twenty three to nineteenth was on the
PK as he usually is. Three shots, six attempts, three hits,
four blucks. I mentioned Petterson he had three blocks last night.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
Yeah he did.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
Look I know, you didn't light it up by any means,
and he was unlucky on that first first, he.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
Should have had three assists on the night, Patterson two
more in the second. I thought he had a good game,
and Donny should have had he set up other guys
who didn't bury the biscuit. That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
Thought maybe it meant the officials.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
Maybe No, No, Petterson, he had a good game. He
looked more engaged, and I loved the fact when he
deflected the puck into the Canucks and foot put him
out right away into the individ put him back in
the mix. What a smart move by Adam Foot. You
let him sit there on the bench for three more
four minutes, He's gonna get negative. Confidence, is going to
go out the wind. Great move by Adam Foot got
him out right away.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
I mentioned they were faster, And here's the moment that
really I don't we don't have video of this, but
I don't Maybe it didn't stick out for a lot
of people, but in the first period Jake Debresk had
a rush. Yeah, and I'm going, who the heck is that?
Speaker 1 (08:29):
You haven't seen that yet? I saw that too.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
I said, rare, rare glimpses last year, and he talked
in the off season going into training camp, during training
camp a preseason about how he wants to use his
speed more. And look, I know that a lot of
people make it, what are you talking about, but that
there's there's something there with him carrying the puck is
something we haven't seen a lot from him.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
Body done.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
That was a good team and he looked very impressive
in that. Was he the fastest guy in the Cadducks? No,
but he looked really impressive in that in that moment.
I don't know how many people would.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
Have I remember the rush you're talking about I said
the same thing.
Speaker 3 (09:04):
Yeah, Evander Kaine on the third line. His stat line
was good as well, and he wasn't on the first
unit of power play. We talked about him being taken
off the first unit of power play too many gays.
In the Saint Louis game, they had Connor Garland in
that spot, in the Ovechkin spot, and that really worked out.
They looked a lot better. But Caine's stat line. He
had the assist on the Heatel breakaway goal, which was
(09:27):
I remember him doing that. He looked so casual, Caane
flipping it out of his zone and I'm like, what
the heck is he doing that?
Speaker 1 (09:34):
Boom, he got it.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
It worked out seventeen forty one for Evander plus three
two shots, four attempts, three hits, one block, and he
also drew a couple of penalties. It was a real
team effort last night.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
Yeah, nine guys had a point and Donny Kane. Can
you get him in the top six though? Can you
get like why is he not in the top six?
I don't understand that, Like.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
No, his agent doesn't understand stop it.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
Don never mind the agents they brought him here. My
best game last night. It was he did a lot
of good but imagine playing with better players, what can
would do well?
Speaker 3 (10:06):
We saw that and they won last night with him
on the third line, I know, and it was he
still got eighteen minutes.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
I am saying he played well last night, but get
him in the top six you'll be better.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
Okay, Well, agree to discreet thought he was. I thought
he was really solid last night.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
Oh okay.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
Meanwhile, Max Sassin, you saw what he was up to
in that second period, the display of speed pops in
the goal. This is Max postgame on how his team
and remember they were down to nothing to Dallas, very
good hockey club. This is Max, and I was team
stayed positive after a tough, tough start.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
Just a lot of resilience.
Speaker 4 (10:47):
You know, I thought we were playing a good game
in the first and you know, there was no negativity
or anything going down to nothing, and you know, as
as long as my time here is one of the
best second periods I've seen, you know, just staying connected
and the resilience and you know, big plays from Gar
and heats and you know, all throughout the lineup, and
(11:10):
that was big saves by DeMar at the end.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
Nine different guys grabbing at least a point on the night.
What does that say about the depth of this team?
Speaker 4 (11:17):
It says a lot. Yeah, you know, I think that's
something that we've talked about quite a bit, getting contributions
from other a bunch of guys, and you know, you
saw it. The top guys all throughout our line contributed
and you know you got to keep it going.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
In conversation with Olivia McDonald from from Sports that Max
Sassin and he just, you know, to me, looks like
somebody who could stick around. Waivers, no waivers, whatever.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
The case may be, find a way to keep them gone,
find a way to keep them. And that whole Abbey
line last night was good.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
They brought the heat. They were passionate, they were moving
their feet. It was good.
Speaker 3 (11:56):
One thing with Max Shassen that I'd like to see,
I'd like to see him play the better players maybe
maybe instead of one goal Myers on the pass to him, Yeah,
what a great pass by Myers, banks it off the boards,
right on the stick.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
He saw him.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
But you know what, like Tyler Myers has been around
for a while, and Max Sassin got himself open with
that speed. Tyler Myers, veteran saw that.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
Bank and into.
Speaker 3 (12:21):
So they play Chicago this after.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
I'm not gonna say.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
Chicago tonight, Chicago tonight, Chicago today, then Washington, Pittsburgh and Nashville.
And you were saying before the show that you think
they're going to go four and one and this stop it?
Speaker 1 (12:36):
Don I didn't see it. Well, I mean, look at
that's okay, it's a good road trip for him.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
So you look at who they have to face in
this road trip. They knock off Dallas arguably the best
team in this road trip. Chicago.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
That's doable. Although back to back nights. Do we know
we're starting.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
Gold by by a chance, I would imagine to be Lincoln, Washington,
nine to thirty, start on Sunday morning, those weekend morning games.
Get your coffee, not horrible, horrible?
Speaker 1 (13:03):
Whose up your morning Sunday morning? You gotta walk the dog.
You got stuff to do, don.
Speaker 3 (13:10):
I don't walk the dog earlier after I don't.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
Want to watch a hockey geam at nine in the morning.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
Walk them around the living room. Pittsburgh and Nashville.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
Okay, So what are you saying?
Speaker 3 (13:22):
There's a lot of will it just seems to after
this game last night, which didn't seem as winnable as
the others things seem. And we all know the Canucks
can be disappointed through the years. Things seem to be
setting up well for them.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
Yeah, you know, and at.
Speaker 3 (13:37):
Twenty four hours ago, you know, we were talking about
how tough things looked. But that was a real important victory.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
Line.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
I know it's early, but that was really important to
set the tone.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
And we took our positivity pills this morning. We know
the Knucks don't like it when we're negative. And guess what,
when they played well, not just done. When they play well,
we say they play well, and you just said it
and you meant it from the heart. Last night was
a good victory. That's the best second period they've had
all year. And you know what, good on them. Four goals, bang,
bang bang bang.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
We should also mention that the BC Lions play tonight
at BC Place seven thirty against the ebonton lines of
a chance if they win their last two games to
host a playoff game and the West semi at BC
Place Big croug.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
Town Pushing twenty nine, twenty nine, thirty thousand and don
if they get the whole playoff date, can they do
thirty five forty thousand.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
Good on the line Way Caps against Dallas on Decision
Day tomorrow at BC Place. Here's what's coming up on
the show.
Speaker 1 (14:33):
And I just want.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
To say this before we go any any further. We
haven't mentioned the Blue Jays and Mariners and what happened
between John Schneider and Max Scherzer yesterday down in Seattle.
It was fabulous. And one of the reasons we haven't
talked about it is because we're gonna let and we
recorded this interview about half an hour forty five minutes ago.
(14:56):
We're gonna let Ryan Dempster handle things. He had some
really really interesting, passionate things to say about what he
saw last night in Seattle between Max Scherzer and John Schneider.
It was pretty special. And those Blue Jays they end
up beating the Maritors again eight to three this time
around now tied it to in the ALCS. I don't
(15:18):
know if many people saw that coming, but what a moment.
And Ryan's going to talk.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
About that in a bit.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
Is it just me DTMZ coming up eleven o'clock hour,
you know what it is like almost an all Ryan show.
Ryan rig Maiden is going to join us general manager
of the team. We just spoke about moments ago. The
BC Lions playing tonight against Edbonton at BC Place. Ryan
is a good interview. He's going to join us just
after eleven o'clock. Lions are getting back a key player tonight.
(15:46):
We'll talk to Ryan about that. Big Rye Ryan the
Twitter guy. You go remember back in the day at
ten forty we had the All Paul Show.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
We had seven guests. I think that were all Paul Paul. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
Wow, it might have been the highlight of our time
at ten four years as matter of fact, a big
Ryan the Twitter Guy coming up later this hour and
up next, as mentioned the Pride of Gibson's Sunshine Coast
from MLB Network twelve seasons Pitching in the Bigs, Ryan
Dempster talking some baseball.
Speaker 1 (16:19):

Speaker 3 (17:16):
We're gonna be joined now by Ryan Dempster, our friend
from Gibson's now with the MLB Network twelve seasons Pitching
Ball and MLB and Ryan joins us now.
Speaker 1 (17:27):
Ryan, thanks for doing this, sir. How are you.
Speaker 6 (17:30):
I'm doing great, guys. Just loving this playoff baseball man,
It's awesome.
Speaker 3 (17:33):
Oh, just so special, especially around here with the Mariners
and the Jays involved in that ALCS tied it to
eight to two Jays over the Mariners last night. You're
a pitcher, Ryan. I got to get your take on
Max Schuzer's reaction to John Schneider's mound visit in the
fifth inning. It was something else.
Speaker 6 (17:55):
To be honest with you, guys, we need more of
this man. Let's bring it back. Thank you Max, from
the bottom of my heart. I'm so tired of the
analytical go to the piece of paper. We can predict
the future. If that's the case, shouldn't every team be
betting on who's gonna score touchdowns and football and what
teams are going to win? We don't know, they're human
beings playing. And the fact that Max stands up a
(18:15):
for the moment, right like, give me the ball, I
want the ball, get off my mound and be John Schneider,
thank you very much for your reaction to Afterwards, in
the press conference, he says, I loved it. I've been
waiting for it all year. Like this is when we
get to this point, you're down to the four best teams.
The numbers don't mean much. Who's got more heart, Who's
gonna come up with the moment, Who's gonna win the
(18:38):
big moment? And even if Max didn't get out of that,
that's a moment that changes this series. And the fact
that he did, I believe is the moment that propels
the Jays to come back and win this series. After
being down to As a teammate, you have to be
fired up and you have to just be like, I'll
do anything now. This guy just like put it all
out there. He laid it on the line and then
(18:58):
he goes out and then he goes back out for
the next inning. Like I just love this so much.
We need more of this in the game. We need
more emotion, not less emotion. We're trying to take it
out with it instant replay. We can't argue with an
umpire because now we got the AABS, everything's gonna be
unemotionless on the field. And the fact that we still
have this and we have a manager who appreciates it,
and you know his teammates do.
Speaker 7 (19:19):
This was this was gold Man.
Speaker 6 (19:21):
This is one of those moments in playoff history that
we'll look back twenty years from now and go, remember that,
Remember when Max.
Speaker 7 (19:27):
Cheers did that? Like, I loved every bit of it.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
Hey, Ryan John Schneider afterwards, I thought he had a
great clip. He respects analytics, but yeah, sometimes it comes
down to what you're talking about. Sometimes it comes down
to people. Now, John used to manage the Vancouver Canadians,
so we're familiar with them here. What do you think
the Jays have in him?
Speaker 6 (19:48):
Yeah, I think they have a guy who knows these
guys as well as any manager of the big leagues
knows his players.
Speaker 7 (19:53):
Right, you think about all.
Speaker 6 (19:53):
The guys he coached in the minor leagues when he
first got to the big leagues.
Speaker 7 (19:58):
That's a big jump, right, your.
Speaker 6 (19:59):
First time managing. He faced criticism and people wondering if.
Speaker 7 (20:04):
He was the right guy to manage those guys.
Speaker 6 (20:05):
And you heard lots of things about all of his
character and they're starting to shine through.
Speaker 7 (20:10):
And these guys love playing for him.
Speaker 6 (20:12):
And I do, by the way, when I say analytics,
I appreciate analytics, but like and if you don't use them,
I think you're silly for not using them. But I
think what he understands, and he's got a tremendous pulse
on his locker room, his clubhouse, his dugout, and those
guys and lets them be themselves, lets them go out
there and play. And because of that, you see that playout.
Speaker 7 (20:34):
Like you know, I look at my end of my career.
Speaker 6 (20:36):
In twenty thirteen in the World Series, right, we played
Saint Louis. We lost a game on an instruction call
in game game three in Saint Louis, where Alan Craig
stepped over Will Middlebrooks.
Speaker 7 (20:46):
Next game we won a game.
Speaker 6 (20:48):
On Colt Wong getting picked off first base, and then
game five we went on a three run home run.
Now Johnny Gomes a right hand hitter who's hitting against
Seth Manesse, a right hand guy who throws nasty sliders.
Where in today's game is that happening. We're gonna go
to the books. We got to get the lefty to
face the right instead. John Ferrell knew the guy. He
bet on the guy, and that's what happened last night.
(21:09):
John Schneider bet on the guy. Max Sure's the guy
that he knew was inside that uniform, who's been on
that stage before.
Speaker 7 (21:17):
So I'm super happy for him.
Speaker 6 (21:18):
I don't know him, you know, I've just watched interviews
and I've watched him from Afar. I've always liked him,
and that's opportunity that you work hard throughout your system.
You get a chance, and now you make.
Speaker 7 (21:28):
The most of It's it's awesome to see.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
Ryan twenty one runs in twenty nine hits in two
games for the Blue Jayson Seattle. If you're the Mariners
right now, what are you thinking?
Speaker 6 (21:38):
Yeah, man, stuff's to get scary right all of a
sudden that you start to feel a little bit tighter.
Speaker 7 (21:43):
It really does. Like for the Blue Jays, you know,
he had nothing to lose.
Speaker 6 (21:47):
Everybody, hey man down to oh only three teams have
done it hasn't been done since nineteen ninety six. Okay, cool,
how about us? How about we're the team that does that.
How about we're the team that loses two games at
home and goes back and does what the Yankees did
against the Braves back in ninety six when Jim Laertz
hits the home run off of Mark Wohlers, Like, why.
Speaker 7 (22:05):
Not be us?
Speaker 6 (22:06):
And and they backed it up and they're playing loose,
they're playing free.
Speaker 7 (22:09):
And by the way, let's not sleep on.
Speaker 6 (22:11):
Like there's very few ballparks in the league where you
can travel as well as the Blue.
Speaker 7 (22:17):
Jays fans have down in Seattle.
Speaker 6 (22:19):
You got half a Western half a can at all
Western canon is like I can make that drive from
Saskatoon down to Seattle.
Speaker 7 (22:25):
Why not?
Speaker 6 (22:25):
You know, Like it's one of these things where you
have a ton of Blue Jay fans and you're seeing
it play out on the field. But these guys have
done a tremendous job of fighting back into the series.
Speaker 1 (22:36):
Okay, you're a BC boy. We got Donnie wants the Mariners, Ryan,
I want the Blue Jays. What what do you Who
are you cheering for? And who were you cheering growing
up in Seashell?
Speaker 6 (22:47):
Yeah, I won't say, you know, because I do national media.
Speaker 7 (22:50):
I can't say I want one over the other. Right,
My co host Sierra Santos, at.
Speaker 6 (22:54):
The beginning of the season, did pick the Toronto Blue
Jays as the the winner. And I, you know, listen, man,
I grew up driving down to Seattle and go and
watch every time the A's would come in.
Speaker 7 (23:06):
Let's go watch Ricky Anderson and the Bash pros, and like,
let's go.
Speaker 1 (23:09):
You know.
Speaker 6 (23:10):
I went down and watched cal Rupken Junior play at
the Kingdome. I loved watching go and watch Junior and
those guys play. And yeah, that was my childhood. I
couldn't drive to you know, Toronto, but I lived and
died watching Blue Jay games. Nineteen ninety three. I was
visiting my friend Sarah Pachowski up. But that's if you
and Joe Carter hit that home run, like, you know,
like I love the Blue Jays. I always did as
(23:31):
a kid, you know, the days of you know, the
George Bell and Jesse Barfield and the shaker Lloyd Mosby
out there in the outfield, you know, tonynandez It Short
and Dave Steve on the mount.
Speaker 7 (23:41):
Dave Steve is my favorite pitchers. So this is an
entire country, right right, This is what it's all about.
It's Canada's team.
Speaker 6 (23:48):
There's no other professional baseball team, So it would be
amazing to watch Canada's team, the Blue Jays, go against
you know, the Los Angeles Dodgers. I think it would
be a huge spectacle across countries and I think it
would be great for the game of baseball.
Speaker 1 (24:02):
Hey, another homer for Vladdy Guerrero last night, Ryan, How
would you pitch him.
Speaker 7 (24:09):
Carefully?
Speaker 1 (24:11):
Good idea?
Speaker 6 (24:13):
Yeah, And because you're you're you're running into a guy
who much like his dad.
Speaker 7 (24:18):
He's much more disciplined at the plate than his dad.
Speaker 6 (24:20):
You know, he tends to know his strikes him quite well,
but when need be, just like his dad, he knows
he's capable of hitting any pitch around the strike zone,
doesn't have to be in it hard out of the park.
You know, I watched you know, Bladdy Senior hit fastballs
ninety five miles now up and away.
Speaker 7 (24:38):
Out of the ballpark to Rice centerfield.
Speaker 6 (24:40):
I saw him take sliders that bounce in the other
batter's box and pull him in the hole at shortstop
for a base hit.
Speaker 7 (24:45):
He's got that right. He's been born for.
Speaker 6 (24:47):
This moment, and I think what we're seeing now is
a superstar on the big stage doing what he's been
we know he was capable of doing for so long,
and it's playing out.
Speaker 7 (24:58):
He's this leader.
Speaker 6 (24:59):
They sign him to that huge deal, and sometimes when
guys sign a huge deal like that, we've seen it,
it might take a year or two to kind of
be comfortable in your own skin making that kind of money. Instead,
it's been the opposite. He's taken this and ran with it,
and he's been that leader and he's coming up with
big hits on the postseason. I mean, you know, don
how many times we see and we talk about, oh,
(25:21):
you know, Barry Bonds didn't show up in the playoffs,
Alex Rodriguez didn't show up in the playoffs, whatever it was.
You know, the superstar of the team, will Vladdie has
shown up in the playoffs as much as anybody.
Speaker 7 (25:31):
It's fun to watch man.
Speaker 3 (25:32):
Yeah, sometimes athletes sign a big contract and things don't
work out. We wouldn't know about that in Vancouver, but
we understand it happens in other places. Hey, hey, Ryan,
other than spending a whole lot of money, what are
the Dodgers do?
Speaker 1 (25:45):
Well up three nothing in the NLCS against Milwaukee.
Speaker 6 (25:50):
Create a culture in an environment where you want to
be and where you're respected, and where they're trying to
do whatever they can to get the best out of you.
You you know, that's the one thing I've taken away
from these like, listen, you can get money anywhere in
the league. I'm not anywhere, but you know, a vast
majority of the teams will spend right Like if you
(26:10):
saw it with the Blue Jays. They went after Showho Tani,
they went after Juan Soto, they were players in these things.
LA has created a culture that has surpassed just.
Speaker 7 (26:20):
What you can pay in the in the you know,
the checkbook.
Speaker 6 (26:23):
It is first class all the way to their families,
how they're treated on the road, how they travel, and
then as players.
Speaker 7 (26:30):
What can we do?
Speaker 6 (26:31):
And there is an incredible sense from behind the scenes.
Speaker 5 (26:35):
I A.
Speaker 7 (26:35):
I think we saw the biggest rope dope.
Speaker 6 (26:37):
We've seen in professional baseball history where we're like, oh,
it looks like the Dodgers are tiring out down the stretch.
Not We're just resting up, boys, That's what we're doing,
and we're gonna get ready to put it to the
throttle because at the end of the day, what do
we want? A Division pennant or a World Series? And
I think the most important thing is a world series.
Guys want to go play there. You talk to them.
Speaker 7 (26:58):
It's not about the paycheck, you ask every single one
of them.
Speaker 6 (27:00):
It's about all the intangible stuff that goes on behind
the scenes. Ironically enough, that matters the most of them.
And I think that's what you're seeing is guys want
to go play there, and you have all stars and MVPs.
You got nine guys on your bench that can start
on other teams. They're loaded, and rightfully so. But that's
because they've created a culture of winning there.
Speaker 3 (27:19):
You'll be happy to hear this, Ryan, are people behind
the scenes here have told us the analytics on this
interview are excellent.
Speaker 1 (27:26):
Okay, just so you know that iant to you.
Speaker 6 (27:30):
Yeah, well, you know, Ryan tends to get a little
bit tired after so many words.
Speaker 7 (27:34):
So because Peter and out here, it's because that you
don't want more. I want more with the boys. That's you.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
You morphed into him there, that was fading.
Speaker 7 (27:51):
He inspired me last night, like he really did.
Speaker 6 (27:54):
Like it can be we can get content in our
business to just sit there and go through the motions,
go through a production meeting in the morning.
Speaker 7 (28:01):
This is what we're talking about.
Speaker 6 (28:03):
He made me passionate about the game of baseball, you know,
and made me understand exactly why I love it. It's
not because of you know, the entirety of it all.
It's because of individual moments of that like Max Suers
are put on last night where I'm like on the
edge of my seat like yeah, like I'm yelling back
at the.
Speaker 7 (28:20):
TV like that's right. You let him know, you let
them know. And then you my favorite moment of all
of that, John.
Speaker 6 (28:26):
Schneider freaking tap on the stomach of like, that's That's
what I'm looking for.
Speaker 7 (28:31):
Yeah, that fires up. That fired up a whole country.
Speaker 1 (28:33):
Yeah yeah, and it worked. This was great.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
We'll get you back on Ryan. Thanks so much, Hope
all as well, and again, thank you so much for
doing this.
Speaker 1 (28:41):
My friend.
Speaker 7 (28:42):
Guys, man, great being with you. Enjoy the ride.
Speaker 3 (28:44):
You bet, I won't say hot. All the people in
the Sunshine Coast for you. Ryan Dempster MLB Network Game
five today down at T Mobile Park, Mariners and Blue
Jays all tied it too.
Speaker 1 (28:56):
It's been something else. We'll deal with the poll question next.
Speaker 3 (28:59):

ugh case of live to you tribute. Yeah, rock and Ride.
Speaker 3 (30:02):
More on the passing of Ace Freely later on etmcy
You got really excited to.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
Kiss, great huge fan. Everyone had a kiss poster on
the wall in the eighties. And either of you have
the lunch box that was apparently a big deal back
in the day. That would have been after my time. Fuck, yeah,
the metal lunch box. Did you thermis? Probably has anyone
ever had a thermist that actually works more than we
(30:30):
had a thermist back in the day that didn't break.
That's what I mean. That's what I mean, like in
the inside. Yes, yeah, you rattle. You hear the glass
rattling around inside. Yeah, that's those thermis is around the thermas.
Well yeah, I mean YETI and stuff makes them thermais away. Okay,
don well they're much better now. Yeah years, I tell
(30:51):
you what. That's the big camping brand. Coleman Coleman, Yeah, yeah,
did they make a good No, that's the thermist I
had back in the day. I just remember, you know,
two days lasted and then.
Speaker 3 (31:03):
Yeah, jingle Jingle lines was an Eaton's thermous didn't last long.
I had a few of them.
Speaker 1 (31:08):
I had a Star Wars lunch bucket, did you. Yeah,
you were a Star Wars guy. You bought what you
bought back when Tarmi Navid and you just bought what
you bought. And you know what, I.
Speaker 8 (31:20):
Guarantee that Star Wars lunchbox is probably worth like fifty
grand now.
Speaker 1 (31:24):
Well, sadly I got rid of metal or plastic. Mine
was plastic. Oh plastic. The metal ones probably only because
they would have lasted longer. Yeah, although there was a
rust factor. Yeah, where were we?
Speaker 3 (31:35):
Waddling dog pull questions of the time I experienced one
of Victoria's iconic destinations. We're talking about the wattling dog
sleep sip stock up all in one legendary spot. Come
sit and stay at the dog Today, Rick.
Speaker 1 (31:49):
Ryan got her up the wattling Dog. Pop poll question,
what's the biggest story from last night? The Blue Jays? Yes,
even the series Cannoks beat the Stars or MJK the
Great Cup halftime act? Fifty one percent say Canucks be looking,
fifty one percent say the Canucks forty four Blue Jays
not far behind. That tells you everything you need to
(32:10):
know Canada's team. And this SMJK guy Machine Gun Kelly
at five percent justifiably sold so you're not how a
CFL fan?
Speaker 3 (32:18):
Is that what you're saying? Done?
Speaker 1 (32:20):
I can't name your one machine Gun Kelly song. This
is the Super Bowl, people screwed up? Now the Great Cup,
I'm not I can't watch a band if I don't
recognize anything.
Speaker 3 (32:29):
You're not the target audience.
Speaker 1 (32:31):
I don't care. I'm not watching the Great Cup. Who
the hell is machine Gun? Not watching the No, I'm
not watching the halftime show. I don't know this guy
from a hole in the wall. I can't name you
any of his songs. Why done? Why?
Speaker 3 (32:45):
Because they're trying to attract a younger, hipper audience. Stop
it one that's not represented to watch the two of us?
Speaker 1 (32:51):
Even Ryan? When the when this starts, I'm taking the
dog for a long fifteen twenty minute one.
Speaker 3 (32:56):
Yeah, that's your answer to everything.
Speaker 1 (32:57):
I think that's what I'm done. I had to google
m j K first of all.
Speaker 3 (33:03):
Well, that's why, that's why he had a problem, because
it's MGK.
Speaker 1 (33:06):
Okay, MGK. When you got to google the guy that
they've hired to do the Great Cup. Hap, that's not good.
Speaker 3 (33:13):
We're not we're not hip, we're not with it anymore.
They're trying again. They're trying to attract different people to
this Canadian football league very much.
Speaker 1 (33:20):
It's a horrible, horrible decision. Bad bunnies, much more of
a choice. I had to google him too. He's got
mgk's got nine million Instagram followers. Rink. Yeah, I don't care.
I don't know who he is. I want Springsteen. I
want John Cougar. You said ac DC last time, which
(33:41):
makes sense for the Great Cup def Leppard, Yes, why not?
They don't understand. They're not getting it. I don't care
if it is getting it, they're not getting it. I'm
with you.
Speaker 3 (33:53):
I would myself personally, I'd rather see that. I'd rather
see some old dam.
Speaker 1 (33:58):
Up with people.
Speaker 3 (34:00):
Up with people would be the exception.
Speaker 1 (34:02):
I don't want to see them again, right, although i'd
be all I would.
Speaker 3 (34:08):
Of a marching I know, I know, half forming of
a kicker right, Oh, yes, absolutely, I'd be into that.
That that because it's a sight. Have you ever seen
a marching band and a football? Yeah, well it's called
something else, you call it live. Yeah, it's great when
they do the formations. Yeah, I don't think you're getting
the kids with that though. They want a new audience.
Speaker 1 (34:29):
Okay, but let's say they get machine gun Kelly. They've
got them, they got them. Do you think the CFL
is going to have two point five million nineteen year
olds watching now?
Speaker 3 (34:40):
No?
Speaker 1 (34:41):
No, but they may be.
Speaker 3 (34:42):
They may watch the halftime show and then watch the game.
And you know what, I like this product. It's so obvious,
like I get what they're thinking. It's not for me,
but I get what they're thinking.
Speaker 1 (34:52):
Just so bad, very disappointed in the CFL.
Speaker 8 (34:55):
Oh, this is Paul the New West Baside. It was
your front resort inbox. I remember Rick saying he liked
m g K in the dirt, but now claims he
doesn't know who he is in the dirt?
Speaker 1 (35:06):
What was the dirt? He was Tommy Lee. That's different.
I can't name you one of his songs. Why would
I watch somebody I don't know what? Just jog his memory.
You've got the scene, dirt, the show so fast. He
was good in that. I give him credit especially. I
can't name you one of his songs. Play one of
(35:27):
his songs for me. I don't know. I have no clue.
I don't know if it could be Lawrence Welk for
all I know. Oh no, Lawrence Well Lawrence walk was good.
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (35:36):
I'm sure Polka would go over big at the Great
Cup halftime show.
Speaker 1 (35:38):
We grew up watching Lawrence so well.
Speaker 3 (35:40):
I didn't grow up watching Lawrence well well, but I would.
I know my parents watched it. Yeah, I remember, wasn't
exactly excited.
Speaker 1 (35:49):
A poko guy.
Speaker 3 (35:50):
Okay, we're okay with machine Gun?
Speaker 1 (35:52):
Okay, okay, So what is he rapp? What is it?
Speaker 3 (35:57):
He started out rapped and then can verted to more
pop rock.
Speaker 1 (36:02):
This does nothing for me. This is soft. I I
don't know what to tell you. These are the kids
like this machine Gun guy.
Speaker 3 (36:12):
You know what I know, And I'm defending the CFL.
But I just gotta say, awful music today sucks versus
I'm sorry it does. Is there anything good out there
right now?
Speaker 1 (36:22):
Nothing? Okay?
Speaker 8 (36:23):
Okay, okay, okay, you know what I'm gonna visit, says
the guy with.
Speaker 3 (36:28):
The gold on a second, the guy with the kiss
T shirt. Sure you're gonna defend Today's.
Speaker 1 (36:33):
Your your favorite band? Your favorite band all the time
is the Beatles. Yes you listen to this? Okay, soft poppy? Whatever?
I want to hold your hand, she loves you, blows
away this I can't buy me love. That's poppy.
Speaker 3 (36:47):
Hold on, hold on a second. What's your favorite band? Uh,
Pearl Jam No, it's the Beatles.
Speaker 1 (36:56):
Yeah, but but I'm just saying yeah, but pop. You
can't say this is super soft. But I love the Beatles.
Speaker 3 (37:02):
The Beatles so Bryan that the Beatles grew from there.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
Those songs still are way better, way, way better than this.
He's grown. The Beatles grew from there. He's growimented every
top music. He's experimented. He was a rappery mess for
his girlfriend or wife or whatever it is. No, no, no, no, no, no, no,
they're not no. What's her name? Later I thought it
was Viviana Fox. It's Making Fox. Yeah, yeah, Making Fox. Yeah. Okay,
(37:30):
we could go on for two hours. Nothing fans, This
does nothing, Tom Petty, go get Tom. Yes, well you can't,
Oh you can't. But I mean, you know what I mean,
I love Tom.
Speaker 3 (37:39):
You know what bothers me is you're trying to be
young and heavy. You're in your late thirties now whatever, Yeah,
you're done.
Speaker 1 (37:46):
You don't know. You know what's scary to me is
Nina before the show, and I think she's n She said, oh,
he's even it's more for younger people than me. So
I'm like, man, I'm really missed it if it's younger
than me. And same way when I when I heard that.
Speaker 3 (38:03):
But you're trying to pretend that you're trying to be
young again. I know you're early thirties. You're not late thirties.
It's it's over. But you love your old bands, you
you do. Just admitute you're trying to adhere yourself to.
Speaker 1 (38:17):
The young and the hip. I'm not. I'm not. I'm
not the young and the hip. You that would be
a good band, tragically. Yeah, and they posted this so
late too.
Speaker 8 (38:30):
I mean, well, we literally just talked about it. I
can't remember it was on there off there. We literally
just talked about men. We're you're close halfway through October,
no act, This seems late.
Speaker 1 (38:40):
And then this gets a machine gun? What's the nickname
got to do with it? I don't I don't know.
Why did he change names? You mean? Yeah, why is
a machine gun?
Speaker 3 (38:49):
Oh that it's a takeoff in an old gangster I
believe from back in the day. Oh really, machine gun? Kelly,
Look you did your research this dude. Last night, I
remember hearing about it. I could be wrong, but I
remember hearing about that person. You know, I don't know,
way back old time Chicago or something, yeah.
Speaker 1 (39:07):
Or Chicago tonight, Chicago tonight. There's a lot of people
bringing up the payphones at Chicago tonight. Probably they yeah.
Speaker 3 (39:15):
Oh, I'll tell you what. Yeah, they had they had
a phone booth.
Speaker 1 (39:19):
They had a phone booth. No, at the John b
How don't if they still do it could equip them. No,
they probably don't.
Speaker 3 (39:27):
It's a relic. It's a conversation piece.
Speaker 8 (39:30):
Well, it's like it's like outsidebody uses the press box
at BC place. You can see where the phones were,
but they're all gone.
Speaker 3 (39:36):
What happened to the phone booth?
Speaker 1 (39:37):
Bring them back? What a superman do in these days? Changed?
Good point?
Speaker 3 (39:41):
Yeah, right, Anyways, we're going to bring up the cannuction
of black Hawks.
Speaker 1 (39:46):
That will do that in our open segment in the
next hour.
Speaker 3 (39:50):

saying the music though. Listen to one.
Speaker 8 (41:12):
They're both very poppy and I love the Beatles, as
we've established on this show. But you can't tell me
these people that say, oh, the hard music the Beatles
started as bubble gum pop.
Speaker 1 (41:23):
They would they've said that.
Speaker 3 (41:24):
In a second. I agree with you that that they were,
and you could argue they were somewhat of a boy band.
Speaker 1 (41:30):
Yes, oh for sure. Arguab first, but those.
Speaker 3 (41:33):
Songs that you mentioned, like Hard Day's Night or hell
way more edge, no no, no, no way, more edge than.
Speaker 8 (41:38):
What I didn't say, those ones I want to hold
your hand, she loves You, more edge, no cut stopping,
more edge than.
Speaker 1 (41:45):
Today's or even the Backstreet Boys back in the day.
Way more edge.
Speaker 8 (41:49):
Edge was good, he is good. I don't know, but
I hey very quickly. First of all, I want to
mention Giants tonight. You mentioned this yesterday when we did
the read first.
Speaker 1 (42:00):
Fifteen hundred fans tonight at the LEC Sunday at the LEC,
get one of these twenty fifth anniversary hats. They are
good looking, They're very nice.
Speaker 8 (42:08):
I love this twenty fifth anniversary logo. This is a
They did a good job with this. So fifteen hundred
fans tonight Sunday at the LEC for the Giants put
it on. It's a little small on my head. I'm
not I didn't know.
Speaker 1 (42:20):
Are you part of the big Head club. No, my
head's a normal size. I'm like seven and on a
fitted hat, I'm like seven and one eighths or something.
Speaker 3 (42:27):
Really, yeah, I think i'm nine.
Speaker 1 (42:30):
Yeah, so it's a little small in my head. Well,
how do they measure well? To be honest, I'm guessing
most of these.
Speaker 3 (42:37):
Hats something with a measuring tape.
Speaker 1 (42:38):
Most of these hats are catered to the kids. Is
there a special head measuring device exactly? Well, you just
take a.
Speaker 3 (42:44):
Measuring head on your shoulders, a measuring tape, you go
around here, Yes, I do, yeah, yeah, yeah, all right,
some sort of helmet.
Speaker 1 (42:52):
Yeah, no kidding. Okay, Uh, First of all, the NHL
last night? What HL last night? Derek?
Speaker 8 (43:00):
You got this ref clip? Okay, I'm gonna throw to it.
Do you guys see what happened between the Panthers and
the Devil? So if you didn't, because there was a
million things going on last night. Panthers Devils last night? Okay,
the Panthers. A little over a minute left, Panthers down
by two goals. They score a goal with the goalie polt.
It's deemed to be called back goalie interference.
Speaker 1 (43:20):
It's not happening. So Paul mauricea the Panthers challenges and
basically says, no, there's no goalie interference. It should be
a good goal. Ref Michael Markovich.
Speaker 8 (43:29):
He's been in the league eight seasons, so it wasn't
like it's not a rookie or anything. He got things
a little crossed up when he came to the review
and this is what he had to say on the
mic after after review.
Speaker 1 (43:39):
Of the call on the ice stands, we have a goal.
Oh sorry, hang on, hang on, excuse me. After review
there is no goal. Florida evench might have penalty for
delay game. So the Paul Maurice expression there that they
(44:00):
could not have cut to it at a more perfect time.
But that is it like us something you get a
number wrong or something like yeah, I'm sorry, twenty one
not fifty one whatever.
Speaker 8 (44:09):
I've never seen that. I've never seen that a ref
say the complete.
Speaker 1 (44:14):
Opposite with football, a complete opposite call like I say,
I know a number happens a lot, that happens a lot,
ran the complete opposite the mistakes.
Speaker 3 (44:24):
We make on this show.
Speaker 1 (44:25):
No, no, I are you kids? I know, and look
I know there's probably there's no script. No no, no, no,
I know you're gonna take them.
Speaker 3 (44:32):
There's a lot of things going on, and that is
a difficult job. There's a lot of things going on
in his head.
Speaker 1 (44:37):
Oh and plus I will say, by the way too,
I don't blame it like these refs.
Speaker 8 (44:41):
I think they actually do an amazing job taking to
the mic when they're not trained in doing it, you
know what I mean, Like like we we you believe
it or not, we have an idea of how to
use a mic and be on the air.
Speaker 1 (44:55):
I I think we do. But like a ref like,
that's not your job and now you have to go
it was part of it, part of talk to an
entire crowd. Well, yeah, he made it.
Speaker 8 (45:05):
He made it a thing out of it. Yeah, with
the way he does his Yeah, but I've never seen
that one. Like I say, complete opposite. I've never seen that.
Speaker 3 (45:13):
Are you You're not criticized, No, I just I'm like
I said, I don't see that happening to anybody, no
matter how experienced or inexperienced they are.
Speaker 1 (45:20):
But it is funny. But the look on Maurice's plice
made it absolutely absolutely he made it that. Yeah, the
Panthers did go on to lose by the way the
Devil's one last night. Okay, Uh, the other thing happening
in the sporting world last night was the Thursday night
football game. Steve, there's Bengals and it was Flacco. So
(45:41):
that's what I was going to get to.
Speaker 8 (45:42):
Except it's an important night, and you guys appreciate that
because this because you're both old. This is from ESPN Insights,
Aaron Rodgers, and you're trying so.
Speaker 3 (45:51):
Hard to cater to the young audience.
Speaker 1 (45:53):
Aaron Rodgers. There's a lot on this show. Aaron Rodgers
and Joe Flacco are the second pair of opposing quarterbacks
in NFL history to start a game at age forty
or older, joining Tom Brady and Drew Brees, who boast
faced off against each other three times in the twenty
twenty season, including the playoffs. The old guys, they got
it done last night. They were slinging the ball all
over the place. Last second field goal by the Bengals
(46:15):
gets Flacco and the Bengals the victory.
Speaker 3 (46:18):
And how much flak did they take for trading for
Joe Flacco?
Speaker 1 (46:22):
Yeah, yeah, look what happens. That's why we love sports. Yep,
you know. Yeah, it's just like the Canucks last night,
same thing, two and out thing here we go. Just
just love it.
Speaker 3 (46:31):
Well, blue Jay's being down oh two now to too.
Speaker 8 (46:34):
It's just also insanely impressive because like as the conductor
of the whole thing, the quarterback, Like if a defenseman
gets traded in the National Hockey League, you can pretty much,
I know, you have to get up to speed on
the system and all that you can I think you
can like jump into that way easier than the quarterback.
Like he's been on the roster like what ten days now,
he's played in two games when they try to keep
(46:55):
things simple. Yeah, and he did. He threw to t
Higgins and Jamar Chase a Ton last night. But uh,
and look, Aaron Rodgers. He has been decent for the Stews,
he has been decent. He's not doing too much. He
can still he threw his hail Mary pass at the
end of the game, guys, sixty eight yards like his
arm is still there, no doubt. But yeah, Joe Flacco
and the Bengals, the old guy getting it done last
(47:17):
night on Thursday Night Football.
Speaker 1 (47:19):
Feel good for him? Yeah, no, absolutely, forty one year
old pitcher. Well that's the other right, Yeah, yeah, yeah,
a lot of forty something happened last night. Yeahee, Ryan, Yeah,
you get better the agist. Youet better with the ages
that older guys do. Some people do. The older guys
do well, they did last night.
Speaker 8 (47:36):
That's for sure. That's for sure. Okay, that's it for me.
Coming up next, we talk about the NFL. We're gonna
pivot now to the CFL with the BC Lions.
Speaker 1 (47:45):
Not it's not like the last night yeah no kidding,
not MGK, but the Lions Elks massive game at the Dome.
It's still the dome. People still say the dome, it's
not a dome.
Speaker 3 (47:55):
Well yeah, I think it's changed with the opening now.
Speaker 1 (47:59):
Because it's not like the same material.
Speaker 3 (48:01):
Right, we can move on.
Speaker 1 (48:03):
Okay, BC Place, Yeah, BC Liones gm R. You know
what the referee sounded better, Ryan rickmade it is. Next,
it's Donnie Dowey the team I check.
Speaker 3 (48:16):
Hey everyone, it's Donnie and Dolly and we're looking to
partner with your company.
Speaker 1 (48:20):
We have several packages and price points to fit your
budget and spread the word about your company on the show,
in our podcast, and on social media.
Speaker 3 (48:28):
We'd love to get involved with your company called two

our guests today brought to you by our friends Al
Chris Manson and Company up with the Whistler Golf Club
(48:51):
currently undergoing renovations. More on Whistler a little bit later.
Lion's host Ebonson tonight seven thirty good game, BC place
lines with an opportunity to host a CFL playoff game
four s freight Wins, winners of six of their last
eight and joining us now to talk about the BC Lions.
His BC Lions general manager Ryan Rick Maiden. Ryan, thanks
(49:12):
for doing this, sir.
Speaker 1 (49:13):
How are you?
Speaker 9 (49:15):
I'm excellent?
Speaker 7 (49:16):
How you doing? Guys?
Speaker 3 (49:17):
Very well?
Speaker 1 (49:18):
Ryan? The important stuff First?
Speaker 3 (49:20):
Just your thoughts on MGK Machine Gun Kelly being named
as the halftime act during the Great Cup.
Speaker 9 (49:28):
Yeah, I can't say that I'm a big fan. I've
heard of him a little bit. I think my seventeen
year old daughter would probably know him much better than
I would. But he is a big artist. I think
he'll put on a good show and we'll have a
terrific game.
Speaker 3 (49:41):
That is an outstanding answer, because usually guys are age,
not that you're my age, Ryan, don't understand this, but actually,
you know what, from a musical point of view, I
don't understand it, but from a promotional point From a
promotional point of view, it makes a whole lot of sense.
You're trying to attract a younger audience. Okay, we mentioned it.
Four straight wins, winners of.
Speaker 1 (50:02):
Six of eight. What do you like about the way
your team's playing right now?
Speaker 9 (50:06):
Yeah, I think the confidence has been tremendous, and so
I think earlier in the season, the first half of
the year, I think we had a tendency to take
our foot off the gas in games that we're still
in contention. And as the season wore on, as the
players got more comfortable, as the coach has changes some
some scheme things up, you could see them playing faster
and quicker, and so the confidence is sky high. The
(50:28):
players have always bought into what Buck has been doing,
and we've been on a nice streak here.
Speaker 1 (50:34):
Hey, Ryan, Nathan Rourke, he's just been absolutely a splendid
Your team is number one of the CFL and points
He's a big reason why. But you also got great receivers,
great running back. Talk about the offense led by Nathan
and they're just they're just rolling every week.
Speaker 7 (50:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (50:51):
Again, his confidence has been through the roof. And you know,
I don't I don't know if you know. The twenty
twenty two season was so magical for him. I don't
know he's ever gonna get to that level, but he's
pretty darn close right now and maybe playing better just
in terms of the execution. So Nathan's been terrific. JB
bringing him back, he gives Nathan such a security blanket.
(51:12):
He gets just those tough yards. You've seen young players
like Xander Horvath step up to help close the games out.
And then the receivers have been absolutely fantastic. I think
top to bottom we've bet a terrific But the one
thing that maybe hasn't got the attention that needs to
be discussed is the offensive line. And the offensive line
here over the past few years hasn't been what we
(51:34):
wanted it to be. We've got our tenth starting combination tonight,
so ten different offensive line units have played games. The
job that Paul Charboneau, our offensive line coach, and Christian
Matt who's our running back coach, and assist the offensive line,
the job that they've done with a variety of players,
new players, old players. What they've done to give Nathan
(51:56):
time but also open up those running lanes has been
absolutely fantastic. Couldn't be more proud of the offense and
just the team in general.
Speaker 1 (52:03):
Well, let's go over the defense. They struggled early this season.
I think we all saw that, but lately they've turned
it around. Where does that start? Does that turn round
start on the D line?
Speaker 9 (52:13):
I think it always starts there. So the front end
always affects the back end a little bit more than
the back to the front.
Speaker 1 (52:18):
And so you're.
Speaker 9 (52:19):
Seeing Matthew Betts hit his stride. He's been on an
absolute terror for the past four or five games. Jonah
to Vai one of our defensive tackles, He's had an
absolutely terrific season. He's taken that next step. I think
he's a CFO All Star player. And then some of
the new guys that we have Levi Bell and Bradley
and I and the rest of that rotation. So we
(52:41):
want to dress heavy on that. We want to dress seven,
eight or nine guys every single game. We want in
the fourth quarter when things are getting tired for everybody else,
we want to have some fresh legs in there, so
couldn't be happier with that unit. But also, you know,
you bring in somebody like TJ. Lee that's got that
leadership factor, help everybody get lined up, give some confidence
to some of the young guys on the back end.
(53:02):
So things are coming together. They're gelling and the players
are believing, and you know.
Speaker 1 (53:06):
What, you need points to get that whole playoff day.
But the team you're playing tonight, they're looking for points too.
They're trying to catch Winnipick. This is not an easy game.
Speaker 9 (53:15):
No none are out West, and you guys can see
that with the win loss record, with the standings right now.
So Edmonton's dangerous. They were dangerous earlier in the year.
I don't care what the records say. So they've got talent,
they're well coached, they're kind of hitting their stride just
like we are. They've got a very dangerous running back
in ranking and they're always going to be a test.
So you know, I was looking today, I think they're
(53:36):
plus nine in turnovers. And anytime you've got an efficient
quarterback like Cody and you're taking care of the football
and you can run the ball the way they've been
running it good things are going to happen, and so
we're going to be tested tonight just like we are
each week, and should be a good.
Speaker 3 (53:49):
Game, Ryan Rick and I remember the two thousand BC
Lions and how special that great Cup winning team was.
They had a backfield the nation of Sean Millington and
Robert Drummond, which was very, very effective. You you touched
on this a little bit earlier, but just how important
it is. And I don't know what Buck Pierce's plans
(54:11):
are to use these two guys, but that combination of
James Butler and Xander Horvath, I would I would guess
means a whole lot to your football team.
Speaker 9 (54:21):
Yeah, it does. You know, you want to have two
guys that can that can carry the load, and this
has been our plan all along as the weather starts changed.
You know, we always want to run the football. That's
a trade of a Buck Pierce offense. But to have
two special players like JB and Xander that the fact
that they can do everything. Because at the level, everybody
can run the ball, but can you protect can you
(54:43):
catch a swing pass and make somebody miss in space?
Can you get the tough short yardage runs where it's
you know, second and three. Can you get those three yards?
Can you get the third and ones? So we feel
like these guys have a complete skill set. This is
how we want to live. We want to be in
this universe of having two very very good running backs
down the stretch where we can give it to either
of them and they can both perform for us.
Speaker 3 (55:05):
Ryan, thanks so much for doing this. Best of luck
tonight and the rest of the season. And we promised
next time you're on no machine gun. Kelly questions all right,
Dale got all right, thanks Ryan, Ryan rig Maden, BC
Lions general manager. He's done a heck of a job.
They didn't have the best of starts, and look where
they are right now, a pretty good possibility of them
(55:27):
hosting a CFL A playoff game absolutely at BC Place,
seven thirty tonight, not seven o'clock seven to thirty tonight,
Lions against Abington. You mentioned Abington is playing a whole lot.
Speaker 1 (55:38):
Better right now. No, they're playing And Donnie, every team
in the West is jocking for points. You got the
crossover in the East on you got three teams going
for second place. You got the last place team. They're
not far behind. It's a beautiful finish in the wild West.
Speaker 3 (55:53):
Yeah, this game means a whole lot to the Lions
and the Elks. You mentioned that crossover in the East. Yeah, okay,
pole question, We'll deal with to next. Donny Dolly the
team on check.
Speaker 5 (56:02):

experience one of Victoria's iconic destinations, sleep sip, stuck up
(56:58):
all in one legendary spot. I'm sitting stay.
Speaker 1 (57:00):
At the Wattling Dog today. All right, Ryan got her
up the Waddling Dog. Poul question other day, what's the
biggest story from last night for you? Blue Jay's Canucks
Air MJK e MGK, MGK. Sorry you're thinking MJB Michael Jackson.
Speaker 3 (57:16):
Well I thought maybe MGJB coffee.
Speaker 1 (57:20):
That's a good coffee. Yeah it is there, it was
still around. Yeah, moving on now I'm moving on. Look
what's leading? No surprise? Fifty three percent? Can I speak
the stars? Number one? Look? Look look who's not far
behind the Blue Jays. I'm surprised forty two percent? And
it just goes to show again this is Vancouver blue
Jays are Canada's team. This pole, huh, this pole tells
(57:45):
you right here and I'm one hundred percent correct.
Speaker 3 (57:47):
Well, I think it's it's it's the combination. The Blue
Jays are high number it is, but the blue Jays
playing the Mariners makes an extra extra special no, in
terms of interest around here. Then you had that iconic
moment last night. It's going to go down in Canadian
sports history, especially if the Blue Jays do something very
special from here on in this year with Schneider and Scherzer.
Speaker 1 (58:11):
So blue Jay's at three Canucks of five lines of
seven Canucks of five threety So stay tuned to check.
No nap today, No nap today. Dog walk.
Speaker 3 (58:26):
Okay, let's talk about what the Canucks were up to
last night and what they will be up to tonight.
Maybe what they'll be up to. But they defeat the
Stars last night five to three, the two nothing deficit,
and they come back with four goals in the second
period after falling down to nothing. I mentioned this in
the first segment, tweeted it out last night. I thought,
(58:48):
maybe for the first time this season, we saw a
little bit of this in the preseason. I thought they
looked faster last night, and that had a lot to
do with mac Sassin being in the lineup, but there
were other players who look O'Connor, who started out in
the top six heat'll look fast last night. Mancini has speed,
Garland and Sherwood who didn't notice as much as I
(59:08):
usually do. He for Sherewood, but they were their usual
noticeable selfs. But there was some speed there last night,
which was impressive.
Speaker 1 (59:15):
And I love Maxisan. Donnie, do me a favor, talk
to the Canucks. Don't send him back to Absburg. I
think he's done enough to stay up here. And how
do you say no to that speed in your lineup
every single night? You know, I'm sorry, I don't care
you can put one of the other Abbey guys on waivers.
I don't care keep that guy out.
Speaker 3 (59:36):
Yeah, although that Abby line with Baines, Yeah and Sassin
Carlson was as a whole really effective. I thought Tyler
Myers had a good game last night, Leis Petterson. I
know he didn't get the own goal, there was that,
he got the assist on the Garland goal, three block
shots defensively, and he was backchecking as well. I thought
(59:56):
he was really effective.
Speaker 1 (59:58):
Well, what about the two kids in the third had
to play two kids like that? They gave you ten
quality minutes last night. You know last Petterson's a study,
he's a study. But usually young kids like that on defense,
you pair up with a veteran. Those two young kids
give you two ten quality minutes last.
Speaker 3 (01:00:15):
Night, Petterson Mancini, Okay, you wanted to talk about what's
happening tonight in Chicago. It's the Canucks against the Blackhawks,
who look like they're coming on. But there's a sidebar
story here, and let's go back to last season. Philip
Hedl his season over and done with because of a
(01:00:35):
hit in a game versus Chicago, and the person doing
the hitting was former Canuck Jason Dickinson. We got that video,
butny chance we talked about it before the show, yep okay,
so if we could see Dave Dickens, not Dave Dickts,
Jason Dickets.
Speaker 1 (01:00:50):
So Jason Jason, Dave was the former bach But.
Speaker 3 (01:00:53):
You had something else to say regarding further development in
that story.
Speaker 1 (01:00:58):
iMac just moved a tweet. This is the hit last
year and by the way, we do want to tell
don the viewers. Nope, but there was no suspension. There
was no penalty that the Department of Player Safety looked
at it and decided no, nothing wrong with that. So
no penalty, no suspension on the play. Heat'll faces Dickinson
(01:01:20):
for the first time tonight, Ryan iMac moved Ian McIntyre,
a good friend talked to Dave, Jason Dickinson, Jason Dickinson
and if you got that quote or I can read it,
I got to ride here, go for it. Jason Dickinson
was asked about the Canucks getting retribution tonight. He said,
I get it. They're not happy. You don't want to
see your teammate hurt, So I respect that. Look at
(01:01:41):
that right there. I expect guys to play with integrity.
I appreciate whatever has to come has to come. That's
a very nice thing for Jason Dickinson to say he's
expecting retribution tonight. But my question to you, don is
exactly what player on the Canucks is given the retribution tonight. Well?
Speaker 3 (01:01:59):
I think the first answer might be Evander Kaine, but
he wasn't on that team last year. And then there's
Todder Myers, that's a possibility.
Speaker 1 (01:02:10):
There isn't a forward I can look, maybe O'Connor. I
don't know if he fights, but I mean, there isn't
a forward on this Canucks roster that can go up
to Dickinson and say let's go. So it's going to
probably be a defenseman.
Speaker 3 (01:02:20):
Yeah, yeah, Myers might be the obvious candidate. But again,
Evander Kaine is a possibility. But I don't know how
much feeling there would be with Evander Kaine given he
wasn't a part of the Canucks last year. The other
thing with that heat'll hit, like, I just looking at
that hit again. I don't if you can see it
again here, guys, but you're looking at that hit again. Okay,
(01:02:42):
no suspension, no penalty on the plane, pal on the plane.
Speaker 1 (01:02:45):
Look at the crowd reaction.
Speaker 3 (01:02:47):
I mean, they know that's that's clearly a penalty. I
don't think Jason Dickinson is known for this sort of thing.
But what I do know not that this would go
through Jason's mind, but Philip Headel has a history of
concussion issues, an incident.
Speaker 1 (01:03:01):
This is what they're trying to take out of the game,
Dot and the optics don't look good. His reaction is
not good. There should have been a penalty on the play.
If you don't, if you're okay with no suspension, my goodness,
my goodness.
Speaker 3 (01:03:13):
So maybe something to look for today Canucks versus Blackhawks
as the Canucks road trip, which started off with success
last night, continues tonight in Illinois. I want to run
this clip if we have time, if you don't mind,
as we switch gears here, getting back to the Blue
Jays and Mariners. I just love what John Schneider had
(01:03:33):
to say, and he is something special. And maybe I'm
a little boasted because we interviewed him on several occasions
when he was with the Vancouver Canadians ye back around
twenty ten, twenty eleven or so, But he just loved
what he had to say last night. There was the
meeting on the mound fifth inning.
Speaker 1 (01:03:50):
Between Max Scherzer.
Speaker 3 (01:03:52):
We've got the visuals here, the meeting on the mom
between Max Schuzer and John Schneider. Max was in his
own he didn't want to come out of the game
and John Schneider, he claims, he wanted to hear this,
you want you wanted to see this, and it all
worked out.
Speaker 1 (01:04:10):
I love this struck out.
Speaker 3 (01:04:11):
The next batter, went into the two o's into the
sixth inning, ended up winning his first playoff game since
twenty nineteen with the Washington Nationals. It was pretty special.
But I love what John Schneider had to say postgame
when it comes to analytics and people and feel John
Schneider postgame last.
Speaker 10 (01:04:31):
Night, I've been waiting for that all year, for Max
to yell at me on the mound, and I think
at that point, you know, there's numbers, there's projections, there's strategy,
and there's people. So I was trusting people, you know,
(01:04:54):
and I think in that moment, you go, you kind
of relive every conversation I've had with I've had with
him a the course of the year and trusted him
to make pitches, you know, it's I was joking with them,
you know, I've been I've been waiting for that moment
since our our zoom call in the off season before
we signed him.
Speaker 1 (01:05:11):
I loved it.
Speaker 10 (01:05:13):
There's a little more of that in between the cent
him back out for the six too, talking about how
we don't talk to him when he start, and I
definitely talked to him and that was another fun conversation
in the tunnel. So he was awesome man, you know.
And and when a guy is in it, when a
guy is in the arena, performing and doing well, I'm
going to trust him to continue to do it.
Speaker 1 (01:05:35):
That's a great clip.
Speaker 3 (01:05:36):
It is, and I think the honest, it's honest. And
I think in the recent past, and not just with
with baseball, with hockey as well. In football, yeah, really
really early. But I think coaches, managers, whatever the case,
may be a little afraid to to talk about analytics
(01:06:00):
numbers because it might make them in a negative way.
It might make them feel out of touch, might make
them sound out of touches. But sometimes yeah, you know what, Yeah,
the numbers say this, and the numbers say that. But
I'm going to go with my gut and I'm going
to trust this person. I loved seeing that last night.
You heard what Ryan Depster had to say. He agrees
(01:06:20):
with me and John Schneider as well, and you that
you know, sometimes you just it just feels right no
matter what the numbers say. He wasn't love hearing that
honesty from John Sneiner last night.
Speaker 1 (01:06:31):
Max wasn't coming out. I love that. That was sports
at its best last night. Yeah, hey, what are you thinking,
I'm staying Get out of here, you turnuk. It was great.
Speaker 3 (01:06:40):
He had the resume of back old, He had the
resume of back himself up right, and.
Speaker 1 (01:06:45):
He wasn't pitching about. He had five stars. It was
surprise five strikeouts.
Speaker 3 (01:06:49):
At that time because I listening to all sorts of
information going into that game. You know, there was a
lot of people back east and people who know a
lot more about baseball than the two of us, who
thought that he was going to go two innings and
that was going to be.
Speaker 1 (01:07:03):
He ended up lasting five plus. It was pretty impressive.
Speaker 3 (01:07:07):
Great drama last night, and the play again today again
you mentioned the start three three thirty today in Seattle
and three o'clock.
Speaker 1 (01:07:16):

Saint Louis the other night and has trade value and
this is not an easy Chicago team. But Dard six points,

mean my e what what? Yes, I didn't say anything.
If people were watching, they saw an eye roll. But
Faraoko the other he was getting it. Yeah, that's what
I mean. He's taking it to another level. He's defensively,
he's more conscious. He's his compete levels up. I mean,
(01:09:07):
Chicago and they got a ton of good kids coming.
Watch out for them down the road.

Speaker 1 (01:10:12):
Okay, let's get serious here.
Speaker 3 (01:10:15):
Ace Freeley, original league guitarist founding member of Kiss, passed
away Thursday. He was seventy four. Freely, the Spaceman, died
peacefully surrounded by family in New Jersey following a recent fall.
Kiss' original lineup included Ace, Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Peter Cris.
(01:10:35):
Freely is the first death among the four founding members.
He started playing guitar at thirteen. Among his early musical gigs,
he was a roadie for Jimmy Hendricks. Freely often feuded
with Stanley. Stanley and Simmons. He was in a band
they all do. He left a band in nineteen to
eighty two, rejoined in the mid nineties, left again on two.
(01:10:57):
When the original foursome entered the Rock and Roll Hall
of Fame in twenty fourteen, you talk about feuds, a dispute,
scrap plans for them to perform live, Simmons and Stanley
objected to Christian Freely being inducted instead of their replacements,
Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer, Geene Simmons and Paul Stanley did, however,
come through with a touching statement after learning of Aces passing,
(01:11:20):
Aces survived by his wife Jeannette and daughter Monique. Ryan,
You did you not wear a T shirt yesterday? By coincidence?
Speaker 1 (01:11:29):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (01:11:29):
So I have the Ace solo covered T shirt that
everyone on the show quite a bit, and yesterday I
just wore it just cause. And as I was on
my skytrain ride home, I saw the initial report about
him being on live support, and then of course what
happened after just.
Speaker 1 (01:11:43):
A really scary fluke.
Speaker 8 (01:11:45):
Yeah, but I was lucky enough to see the original
four once, and I mean it's a spectacle.
Speaker 1 (01:11:51):
I mean, the most spectacle bands of all time kind
of started a lot of things.
Speaker 8 (01:11:58):
Well, so much stuff, like in terms of the show,
not just having a bunch of guys up there plugging
instruments and say here's our music. It was like here, no,
let's build out a show stage and pirate technics and
just everything. And a lot of people credit them with
the merchandise going through the roof for bands as well,
like in the almost to an insane extent, Kiss was
ahead of the game when it came to.
Speaker 1 (01:12:18):
They made us much money off that sort of thing. Yes, dolls,
et cetera. Yes, it's not kidding, no literally versus music. Yes, yeah, no,
they were all over it.
Speaker 3 (01:12:26):
So I saw them in seventy nine. It's that year
that I saw so many bands when they were just
starting out.
Speaker 1 (01:12:32):
Yeah, and I also didn't see them.
Speaker 3 (01:12:35):
Yeah in nineteen seventy nine.
Speaker 1 (01:12:36):
You had a good time. I was.
Speaker 3 (01:12:37):
I was in the crowd.
Speaker 1 (01:12:38):
You had a good time. Remember that, I'm getting there.
Lots of cheating, chrong stuff, is what you're saying. My
h wasn't just that. My uncle Glenn was at that
show as well. That was his first concert. He went
with his dad and he said there was a lot
of people around him that seventy ninth Colosseum.
Speaker 3 (01:12:51):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it was good in all seriousness, so
God bless her.
Speaker 8 (01:12:55):
He's really and so many guitarists like they point to
this dude, like, yeah, this is the guy for them.
Speaker 1 (01:13:02):
Tom was on the cover of every magazine. Oh yeah,
I mean every magazine had them. You don't see it anymore,
but they were on the cover of every magazine.
Speaker 3 (01:13:10):
That's just a great picture, by the way that he
really really captures it. Okay, you got birthdays?
Speaker 1 (01:13:17):
I'm ready.
Speaker 3 (01:13:17):
Oh boy, today's a good one. Seventh birth forgot the
date earlier. Do you have everything together here?
Speaker 1 (01:13:25):

doing this Friday, October seventeenth. Seven birthdays brought to you

No Frills Casino and Rulo Saskatchewan artwork by the great

Speaker 1 (01:13:43):

yesterday I said, Mario told me Rulo Mario no no.
Donnie said Rollo. Okay, we'll fix it like the candy, yes, Rollo,
great candy. We also have other artwork we need to
turn over and get to. Yeah, just that Mario is great.
You better get this tenth overall. Picked by the Canucks

Late great Rick Blite. I just loved him, did the
whole game in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 3 (01:14:28):
I think I remember that.
Speaker 1 (01:14:29):
Rick Blite was great. This Edmonton native and forward drafted
by the Bruins fourteenth to overroll in twenty fifteen. His
father a tough guy in the NHL. Jake de Bresk,
one of the three picked first round and all three
years no longer with the Bruins. Born in Phoenix, Arizona,
second round pick of the Maple Leafs in twenty twenty

one at the University of Minnesota, he played y Matthew
nic good.
Speaker 3 (01:14:55):
Yeah, because it's you know, I didn't realize that fit
until later. I'm saying he's from the same place as
as Austin Matthews, although Austin Matthews is borning califul.
Speaker 1 (01:15:07):
It was him Cooley and Snuggerroot great line at Denver

Speaker 3 (01:15:45):
McDonald norm yea Canada because of Simpson, because of his
criticism of the OJ.
Speaker 1 (01:15:52):
Let me tell you his boss was OJ's buddy. Yeah.
If he is so influential, his Weekend Update during that
time is unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (01:16:01):
Yeah, he's I don't think I appreciated it as much.
And the SPS.
Speaker 1 (01:16:07):

I can't believe, you know, disgusting. It's one of those things.
Speaker 3 (01:17:19):
Tom dancing was the best Ted dancing. But no, it's
one of those things. Long Like it's the same thing
with Springsteen fans. If you say you like Bring Springs,
Bruce Bringsteen. They think it means you hate Bruce Springsteen
because you don't, you know, you don't idolize him. The
same thing with Cheers fans, was that great shog I
(01:17:40):
like Cheers.
Speaker 1 (01:17:41):
You don't love it, you must hate it. I just
said I like, I loved it. And Danny DeVito's wife's
in there, real Pearlman.
Speaker 3 (01:17:48):
Yeah yeah, ex.

Just before we get to is it just me, Ricky
wanted to mention a passing on the local sports scene
that we didn't talk about earlier this week that we
should talk about now.
Speaker 1 (01:19:34):
Yeah. A longtime CFL player and coach, Dave Easley form Vancouver,
has passed away at the age of seventy eight. Played
for the BC Lions, coach for the BC Lions out
Most Outstanding Rookie and West Division as a member of
the lines in nineteen sixty nine. You interviewed them. I
interviewed them. One are the nicest guys. He's what makes
the CFL so good to cover. Dave and always a smile.
(01:19:55):
You see is a smile a mile away. Rest in peace.
Dave Easley, a former great BC line.
Speaker 3 (01:20:01):
Well said, involved with the UBC football program, as we
just a really really nice man and a great athlete. Thoughts, prayers,
and condolences to all family and friends of the late
Great Dave Easley.
Speaker 1 (01:20:13):
What do you got? All?
Speaker 7 (01:20:14):
Right?
Speaker 1 (01:20:15):
Here we go and we're gonna start right here. The
pole question Canucks beat the Stars. So that's Steven Coquitlam.
Donnie's got the Canucks. The pole question, Steve says, is
Canucks you're not prepared for I'm not prepared. You busted me.
I was, I was, I was on the other page.
Speaker 11 (01:20:33):
Jeez, I love the way you just Jeeves from Surrey. Okay,
what did he just say exactly? Jeeves from Surrey?
Speaker 1 (01:20:48):
Is it just me?
Speaker 3 (01:20:50):
But the CFL announced just now that the twenty twenty
sixth Great Cup halftime show Well headline Tom.
Speaker 11 (01:20:58):
Dad, Tom Dad said, Jeez from Surrey, Ryan, we got
to get prizes for these people.
Speaker 3 (01:21:05):
That come through with submissions like this, Tom dancing.
Speaker 1 (01:21:09):
It's Ted, I mean Tim, It's Ted. It's Ted. It's Ted. Okay,
look at this.
Speaker 3 (01:21:15):
Are you on the right page.
Speaker 1 (01:21:16):
I'm on the right page. Look at this Ken in Cloverdale.
Is it just me? But wow, you gotta love this
time of the year. The Blue Jays at three, the
Canucks five thirty lines of seven. Buckle up, says Ken.
Get ready to sit in front of the television tonight, Donny,
it's going to be a lot of sports.
Speaker 3 (01:21:31):
Is it just me? But don You've got it wrong.
Rhea Pearlman and Danny DeVito are still married, but they
live separately.
Speaker 1 (01:21:39):
How does that work?
Speaker 3 (01:21:40):
I don't know, but there's a lot of people out
there thinking they's not a bad idea.
Speaker 1 (01:21:45):
I'm kidding. Of course they're still married. Yeah, but not
in the same house. That's what I'm getting from this. Yeah, okay,
I love the Canucks come back last night, led by
MVP Connor Garland. However many how many points did the
eleven six get? Dwight and Chila got assist? He got
an assist three? Yeah, he had a good game. But
(01:22:05):
we're not going to rip on Peterson. Connor Garland, by
the way, what a beautiful goal. I just can't say
enough for this guy what he is just absolutely killing it.
Speaker 3 (01:22:14):
Steal, great move, goal, come back, it was all there
and good on Elias Petterson for not only being part
of the comeback from being down two goals, but coming
back from what happened early in the game when he
scored in his own goal. Right, good for him?
Speaker 1 (01:22:32):
Is it just me?
Speaker 3 (01:22:33):
This is Aaron in South Van. I think Don showed
up for work today and when Ryan came off the
mound to tell him to go home, he pulled a
Max Scherzer and said go away.
Speaker 1 (01:22:43):
That's how it went. That's how it went this morning.
Donnie showed up this morning and Ryan said go home,
and don said not a chance. Hey, Rick, time to
join the twenty first century. Man. I'm around your age,
and I got no problem with MGK at a halftime show.
If they went with your eighties picks, all the gen
Z kids, it would just be googling who's those bands are?
(01:23:04):
MTB Sam. I'm going to agree with him.
Speaker 3 (01:23:07):
I probably I'm gonna disagree with him in that you know,
you've got kids. I've got kids minor late teens, early
twenties they're very aware of. Maybe it's because of me
and my wife, but sixties, seventies and eighties bands now,
whether they want to see them at the Gray Cup
or Super Bowl halftime show. I'm not so sure, geez,
I'm Surrey again.
Speaker 1 (01:23:28):
Is it just me?
Speaker 3 (01:23:28):
But with the Vancouver Stanley Cup parade route include.
Speaker 1 (01:23:31):
Wrec Beach, well Rec Beach, it would be tough because
of the stairs. It's a long rul other things that
make too to go down those stairs. Don't you don't
want to make people go down those stairs. It's alva
and then right. But the stairs up it's a good workout.
The Wrec Beach stairs are a good workout that I
will say, Donny.
Speaker 3 (01:23:51):
Oh, Jim Rutherford.
Speaker 1 (01:23:55):
It's not for everybody the stairs of Wrec.
Speaker 3 (01:23:57):
Beach, but you're still on the stairs are It's a
great work Do you think rick Beach is known more
for the stairs or something else.
Speaker 1 (01:24:03):
I'm just telling you I know what it's known for.
Speaker 3 (01:24:05):
You talk about the cheech and hunk stuff. Oh oh,
plentiful down there.
Speaker 1 (01:24:09):
We went to Wrec Beach in the eighties.
Speaker 3 (01:24:10):
I mean we're still talking about it.
Speaker 1 (01:24:13):
Okay? Is it just me? But wouln't Katy Perry have
been a fun choice Matto in Chiliwack.
Speaker 3 (01:24:18):
Well, maybe Justin could pull a few strings.
Speaker 1 (01:24:21):
Yeah, why didn't they call Justin? Uh waddling? Doug from Barcelona.
Is it just me?
Speaker 3 (01:24:28):
But isn't technology great? You can watch one game in
your TV while watching two other games on your tablet
and or phone. I don't think it'll be a problem
tonight because the games.
Speaker 1 (01:24:38):
Are staggered so well, all right, baseball hockey and then
the Lions seventh third, they'll be a little bit across
over and especially if the Jay's going next RA innings,
then you're going to be really screwed. But I'm not
like Ryan. I don't need five TVs. I'm a one
TV guy and I'll flick, flick, flick back and forth.
What's wrong with that? Don Are you serious? I'm watching
(01:25:01):
five TV?
Speaker 3 (01:25:02):
Have you ever employed your used pitcher and picture?
Speaker 9 (01:25:06):
No?
Speaker 1 (01:25:06):
Is it still?
Speaker 3 (01:25:07):
I don't even know.
Speaker 1 (01:25:08):
I'm so out of it. Well, like a lot of
them is still a thing. A lot of the apps
now have like the split screen.
Speaker 8 (01:25:14):
Yeah, you can box it up something like especially like
the Zonne for NFL and.
Speaker 3 (01:25:19):
So any focus as you know, I like, I like
watch five TVs at once.
Speaker 1 (01:25:23):
Yeah, stupid, it's dumb people do this time of year.
I got the man came full throttle. Okay, so what
about volume? You got volume? The main TV with volume,
main TV with volume.
Speaker 3 (01:25:32):
Okay, I find I watched games really intently when the
sounds down.
Speaker 1 (01:25:37):
Yeah, we'll focus. I don't play by play. People would
hate to hear that, but I don't know what it is.
I'm a one TV guy. That's it. No more, no
more required, and I'll you barely get through that one.
Look at this, Ryan Bold questions Ryan Dempster, Ryan Dempster

Speaker 3 (01:26:08):
He also he also said that he went to a
lot of Mariners games.
Speaker 1 (01:26:13):
It was it was the Blue Jays, Donny.
Speaker 3 (01:26:18):
Is it just me from Maple Ridge Teddy? But the
Beatles early music may have sounded simple, but the music
and vocals were groundbreaking. It sounds like Maple Ridge Teddy
m RT knows a little bit more about music than Ryan.
Speaker 1 (01:26:32):
And you who are too big Beatles guys.
Speaker 3 (01:26:35):
Yeah, yeah, you know, I was pro Beatles. Ryan apparently
doesn't like them anymore.
Speaker 1 (01:26:40):
Yeah, Hey, mad Max crazy beauty wrist shot top shelf
from Papa G and Langley. Uh, keep that kid in
the line up. Please don't send him back to Abosford
max sas.
Speaker 3 (01:26:52):
We're talking about.
Speaker 1 (01:26:55):
Garth and Ladner.
Speaker 3 (01:26:55):
Is it just me or the Gray Cup Committee could
pick newer Canadian bands like The Beaches, Mother Mother, Sheep Dogs,
et cetera. I'm in my sixties and they're way better
than M g K again Girth.
Speaker 1 (01:27:08):
Yeah, but all those bands are great. I don't know.
Lover Boy, lover Boy works good. Lover Boy Beaches the
Beaches are really really good. So were the sheep Dogs.
I just know the sheep Dogs open for Brian Adams
and Beaches.
Speaker 3 (01:27:20):
What about Martha and the Muffins and they're hit Beach
the Toronto Bad.
Speaker 1 (01:27:24):
Yeah, that song is actually really good. I will I'll
give you credit. I grew up with Platinum Blonde and
Honeymoon Sweet. Yeah, you don't laugh, Ryan, don't laugh. It's
the eighties, but lover Boy works today. Don't don't tell
me without hats would be a good Men without hats.
Tom Cochrane, Life is a Highway good Canadian rocker? Are
you serious you think Life is a Highway is not
(01:27:47):

great Canadian rocker, Lightning McQueen.

didn't know that he's actually French.
Speaker 1 (01:29:14):

Speaker 1 (01:29:19):
